As we fired up the mics for another episode, it felt like 1981 had crashed our party, bringing with it all the technical chaos of a bygone era. Despite the hiccups, we took a raucous journey back in time, exploring the music and events that defined an unforgettable year. We dug through our vinyl collections, pitting classics like "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" against each other in a battle of the hits, while sharing stories that'll make you laugh, cringe, and maybe even dust off your old record player. Our trip down memory lane didn't stop at vinyl; we tackled the great Grammy upsets, the wild antics of Wendy O. Williams, and reminisced about bands that hit the scene with names that still raise eyebrows, like The Better Beatles. We even took a detour to discuss the legacy of music legends, from the formation of iconic bands to the rise of Synthpop. It's a conversation seasoned with personal tales, light-hearted banter, and insights into the artistic growth that's shaped us into the hosts we are today.Wrapping up, we dropped a hint about future discussions and our audience's integral role in this wild ride. It's an episode that celebrates the chaotic beauty of live podcasting and the timeless allure of the music from 1981—no technical difficulties can hold us back! So pour yourself a strong cup of coffee, and join us next Thursday for another engaging trip through music's storied past.

00h 00’00” Presentación 00h 02’57” Cabecera 00h 03’34” Over the rainbow – Eva Cassidy 00h 08’29” As time goes by – Neil Diamond 00h 11’15” Singin’ in the rain – Seth MacFarlane 00h 14’56” Moon river – Barbra Streisand 00h 18’31” White Christmas – Lady Gaga 00h 21’47” Mrs. Robinson – Simon & Garfunkel 00h 25’41” When you wish upon a star – Sara Bareilles 00h 29’29” The way we were – Barbra Streisand 00h 33’17” Stayin’ alive – Bee Gees 00h 37’56” The sound of music – Eydie Gorme 00h 41’26” The man that got away – Audra McDonald 00h 45’08” Diamonds are the girl best friends -Megan Kelly 00h 48’22” People - Louise Dearman 00h 51’30” My heart will go on – Michael Ball 00h 56’02” Cheek to cheek – Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald 01h 01’51” Evergreen - Luther Vandross 01h 05’42” I could have dance all night – Kelli O’Hara 01h 07’52” Cabaret – Bing Crosby 01h 11’10” Someday my prince will come – Barbra Streisand 01h 15’08” Somewhere – Phil Collins 01h 19’04” Jailhouse rock – The blues brothers 01h 22’21” Everybody’s talkin’ – Diana Krall & Vince Gill 01h 25’50” Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head – Dionne Warwick 01h 28’44” Ol’ man river – David Gaines 01h 33’27” Do not forsake me oh my darlin’ – Nana Mouskouri 01h 38’16” The trolley song – Carol Burnett 01h 40’58” Unchained melody – Matt Monro 01h 44’07” Some enchanted evening – John Owen Jones 01h 47’24” Born to be wild – Kim Wilde 01h 50’46” Stormy weather – Billie Holiday 01h 54’23” Theme from New York, New York – Frank Sinatra & Tony Bennett 01h 57’49” I got rhythm – Ella Fitzgerald 02h 00’52” Aquarius / Let the sunshine in – The 5th dimension

She began her musical education studying dance and violin. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Music from Los Angeles City College. She later received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from California State University. In 1966, Ms. LaRue was approached by Lamonte McLemore and Marilyn McCoo to join their recently formed group the 5th Dimension. LaRue nearly always sang female lead on one song per album, with McCoo taking the lead on one song as well; otherwise she sang the alto voice parts along with McCoo's soprano, being featured prominently on Stoned Soul Picnic, or shared the lead with McCoo on songs including "Blowing Away", "Puppet Man", "Save the Country", and "Sweet Blindness". After McCoo's departure, LaRue was lead singer on hit songs including "Love Hangover" (1976). As a member of the 5th Dimension, LaRue received six Grammy Awards, including Grammy Award for Record of the Year for "Up, Up and Away" (1968) and "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" (1969).She appeared in the CBS movie of the week Happy with Dom DeLuise. Kantor. In June 2016, LaRue and the group performed in The Villages, Florida, just days after the Orlando nightclub shooting. LaRue took the opportunity to share her thoughts on the events: "We will not be terrorized. We know what's happening in the world, but this is a song about good health, love, peace and happiness. We still believe in those things today," she stated before performing one of the band's hit singles, "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In".For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com https://www.florencelarue.com/https://www.facebook.com/Florence-LaRue-1419454508346282/https://www.linkedin.com/in/florence-larue-922b8511https://www.facebook.com/5thDimensionFansPage#florencelarue  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

God didn't actually expect the people of Israel to fight giants and win, did He? Well, He wasn't surprised by their faithlessness when they were too afraid to enter the Promised Land. Nor is He surprised by our faithlessness when we let our fears stop us from sharing the Gospel. And yet, He still intends for His gospel to go out and convert the nations, and His people are His chosen messengers. Today we're talking about marriage--or rather, the ultimate reality that marriage reflects. God is not arbitrary; His commandments follow from His perfect nature, as do many patterns in creation, and especially marriage. Marriage is one of the best earthly testimonies to what the love of God actually looks like... so in society as we lose marriage, we lose real love. It’s time for Gobbledyween.   Take a break from the horror of the real world to join Paul and Arlo for that most venerated of Gobbledygeek traditions, the month-long horror movie marathon known as Gobbledyween. To kick things off for 2020, our pal Greg Sahadachny takes a break from the usual goofy stuff we stick him with (like the very goofy The Stuff) to go legit with his own personal selection: André Øvredal’s 2016 procedural chiller The Autopsy of Jane Doe. The gang takes a scalpel to the film, discussing how Øvredal gets the most out of his “bottle episode” morgue setting; Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch’s strong performances as a father-son coroner duo; how the film avoids fetishizing Olwen Kelly’s nude body; and why nihilism in horror films can feel so satisfying.   NEXT: grab(oid) onto your butts, Uproxx editor Jason Tabrys joins us to talk Tremors. Last month, The New Yorker published a piece entitled, “Astrology in the Age of Uncertainty,” in which the writer asked, what’s with all these educated millennials who see no contradiction between using astrology and believing in science? Uri and Rivky speak to some of those same millennials, and ask, what’s the deal? Why do we seem to find astrology so compelling? What do Jewish sources tell us about astrology? And, is it real, and does that matter? I live with a super social twelve-year-old.  Our home is conveniently located within biking and walking distance to a vast majority of her friends.  Therefore, I interact with dozens, seemingly hundreds, of middle-schoolers on the reg.  That means “regularly.”  Not only do I hear, and apparently absorb (…totes…) their language, but I also hear, and often abhor, their music.  At times, I’m tempted to let something much like this slip from my mouth, “Music is horrible today.” Guess what, though? It’s not true. What I’d really be saying is, “When I was a kid…our shitty pop music was less shitty than this generation’s shitty pop music.”  But see, shitty pop music is shitty pop music is shitty pop music.  And also, all art is relative, and personal, and wrought with nostalgic, emotional overlay. I realized this as Jen played, “Hit the Quan” for me.  If you stream the podcast just below this post, you can hear both the song and the insights. For those of you who’ll just read, and to assure myself that, indeed, every decade’s shitty pop…let’s call it Poop Music, is merely soon-to-be-dated Poop, I did some research.  I use the term “research” quite loosely.  What I really did was look at the “List of Billboard Top 100 chart achievements by decade” on Wikipedia, within which I found the top songs of each decade back to 1958.  That’s right, 1958.  People, Wikipedia is absolutely wonderful for many things.  Not serious academic research, and not as a solitary source.  Don’t dismiss it out of hand just because it’s crowd-sourced.  While it only takes one dick to ruin something, the crowd generally trumps the dick.  However, also realize that the community created a 1958 – 1969 “decade” because, I dunno, the dick won there. So, for any of you who’ve claimed, in your best crotchety old-man/old-woman demeanor, “Music ain’t like it used to be,” feast your eyes on these lists.  (And hell, link through to the videos to feast your ears as well!)  Keep in mind, there are absolute gems of pop perfection in each decade…and there are heaping mounds of steaming shit as well.  All the way back to the decade that began in, uh…1958.  I won’t try to convince you which songs here are genius, which are formulaic, which are immediately forgetful, unforgettable, and which are vomit-worthy.  I only ask you to keep track of your reactions as you travel back…and be completely honest with yourself. Because a turd by any other name would smell as putrid. Here goes: 2010’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “Uptown Funk,” Mark Ronson featuring Bruno mars (14)“Blurred Lines,”* Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell (12)*No-boobies version****If you like boobies, and who doesn’t like boobies (?!),  just google search: blurred lines unrated“See You Again,” Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth (12)“We Found Love,” Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris (10)“Happy,” Pharrell Williams (10)“Tik Tok,” Kesha (9)“Call Me Maybe,” Carly Rae Jepson (9)“One More Night,” Maroon 5 (9)“Royals,” Lorde (9)“Somebody That I Used to Know,” Gotye featuring Kimbra (8)“All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor (8) 2000’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “We Belong Together,” Maria Carey (14)“I Gotta Feeling,” The Black Eyed Peas (14)“Lose Yourself,” Eminem (12)“Yeah!,” Usher featuring Lil John and Ludacris (12)“Boom Boom Pow,” The Black Eyed Peas (12)“Independent Woman,” Destiny’s Child (11)“Irreplaceable,” Beyonce (10)“Low,” Flo Rida featuring T-Pain (10)“Maria Maria,” Santana featuring The Product G&B  (10)“Dilemma,” Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland (10)“Foolish,” Ashanti (10)“Gold Digger,” Kanye West featuring Jamie Fox (10) 1990’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men (16)“I Will Always Love You,” Whitney Houston (14)“I’ll Make Love to You,” Boyz II Men (14)“Candle in the Wind ‘97/Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” Elton John (14)“Macarena,” Los Del Rio (14)“End of the Road,” Boyz II Men (13)“The Boy is Mine,” Brandy and Monica (13)“Smooth,” Santana featuring Rob Thomas (12)“Un-Break My Heart,” Toni Braxton (11)“I Swear,” All-4-One (11)“I’ll Be Missing You,” Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring 112 (11) 1980’s – “Songs,” and artists (by total weeks at number one) “Physical,” Olivia Newton-John (10)****I never realized how gay this video is, literally and in 80’s vernacular.“Bette Davis Eyes,” Kim Carnes (9)“Endless Love,” Diana Ross and Lionel Richie (9)“Every Breath You Take,” The Poice (8)“I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,”** Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (7)**I also love Rocky Road“Ebony and Ivory,”** Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder (7)**this“Billie Jean,” Michael Jackson (7)“Call Me,” Blondie (6)“Lady,” Kenny Rogers (6)“Centerfold,” The J.
