2002. The pop culture landscape would never be the same again. No, we're not talking about Robbie Williams £80m, six album deal (although Rudebox would indeed shift the landscape, if not exactly many copies). We're not even talking about Pop Idol top ten contestant Jessica Garlick coming (joint) third in Eurovision, although that was pretty good. We could be talking about the arrival of 6Music and BBC Four (TOTP RERUNS!!).But no, all of these memorable highlights take a positively backseat position against the stellar backdrop that was, quite literally, the 2002 Pop World! Boybands!Girl groups!Kylie!Coldplay!ABS!Don't be fooled listeners, 2002 consisted of twelve months that gave us pop memories like no other. Atomic Kitten rode the Tide! Britney loved Rock (‘n' Roll)! Daniel Bedingfield loved James Dean (possibly)! And amongst the idols and stars and academy's of TV talent shows increasingly speedy conveyor belts, the decade they continued to call the ‘noughties' moved up a gear thanks to Sugababes, Liberty X, Ms Dynamite and countless others. Where could it all end, we collectively asked (quite possibly via MSN messenger, or on a dial-up webchat forum)? And who better to navigate the BEST SELLING compilation of 2002, NOW 53, than senior producer for Listen the award winning premium podcast company David Manero! Taking time away from the Kitchen Disco with Sophie Ellis Bextor, Traitors Uncloaked, and the Pop Top Ten pod with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark, David shares his memories, hits and misses from the 43 Top Chart Hits across his two CDs (and a broken case). And, along the way, rediscover some genuine lost in the vault moments, find out what NOW whiplash is and how to avoid it, consider how the Spanglish Rappers Delight conquered the world, and marvel at how Teutonic techno troublers Scooter really were such a Big Thing. So, put down your Nokia 3310 or your Motorola Razr V3, switch off Big Brother 3, come out of the record department of Sainsbury's and tune into the best of 2002!I'm seein' stars, I can't believe my eyes… Hosted on Acast. Max Styler delivers fire with “I Know You Want To,” while Tate McRae shifts gears into overdrive with “Sports Car.” Pop royalty Lady Gaga works her magic on “Abracadabra,” and Lola Young keeps things wild and “Messy.” Party anthem “The Less I Know the Better” by Mau P is pure crowd control, and “Hustler” by Will Sparks, Joel Fletcher, and the always fierce Luciana brings the attitude. And let's not forget the song climbing charts and playlists everywhere—“Don't Wake Me Up” by James Hype. It's a beast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKc_kbwx_GE Personal Favorites Worth Repeating A few personal favorites that hit even harder:“I Look Good” by Jackie Hollander and Lizzy Land is pure self-love wrapped in a beat. David Guetta and Sia team up once again for the soaring “Beautiful People.”A throwback with fresh production, “Love the Way You Lie” from Eminem and Rihanna still cuts deep. The ever-iconic “Say My Name” by Destiny's Child gets a modern dancefloor upgrade, and Daniel Bedingfield's emotional ballad “If You're Not the One” is reimagined for 2025 with a pulse-pounding edge.We round it out with a new standout, “Alive” by BK and Ella Young—a euphoric blend of emotion and energy that just feels right. Spring Break 2025 Brings the Fire The energy kicks off at full throttle and never lets up. Spring Break 2025 doesn't just celebrate the season—it defines it. This mix delivers nonstop beats, soaring vocals, and crowd-commanding basslines that make it impossible not to move. Whether you're poolside, club-bound, or house-party ready, this set guarantees the vibes stay high. We've been blown away by the steady stream of HOT House tracks dropping lately, and couldn't resist riding that wave. So much so, we're keeping the momentum alive with a brand new Funky Ho...

It could be the sleep deprivation (it definitely is) but this is a slightly surreal episode. Consider the subjects covered if you will; raw baby bum cheeks, the career of Daniel Bedingfield (really), wonky joint pain induced by baby feeding and Ollie's brand-new Bonnie-tastic tattoo. We also love it when we hear from you, our wonderful listeners, and you pass on your advice or parenting stories that are too funny or outright crazy not to share. In this episode, Michael & Clifford are joined by Andy Whitehorne (Music Editor for The Blue Mountain Review) as they interview Grammy-nominated producer and drummer Adam Deitch Adam Deitch (www.DeitchBeatsDontQuit.com) While other kids were more interested in "Being Like Mike," Adam Deitch was more interested in "Being Like Quincy." Adam began composing around the age of 11 in his Dad's basement studio. Pretty soon artists in the neighborhood came knocking. Now, years later Adam Deitch's career has crossed genres and he plays the role of both producer and drummer. Adam was inspired by hip-hop at an early age, inspired by Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim. Adam has produced records for such luminaries as 50-Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Chali 2na and MF Doom. He has also done major session work on drums for artists including Justin Timberlake, Daniel Bedingfield, Anthony Hamilton, DJ Quik and Wyclef Jean and the Fugees. Adam has toured the world and recorded as a member of the Grammy Nominated John Scofield Band, Pretty Lights, the Average White Band, The Fugees, Wyclef Jean, Meshell Ndegeocello and his own Break Science and Lettuce.

Join hosts Gabe Cook, Grant Hutchison and Martyn Goodwin-Sharman as they ponder the fate of the Neutral Cider Hotel!Up first, with the recent announcement of season one coming to an end and the uncertainty of what's next, the guys get to work on the live show to make sure it's literally the best show anyone has seen in 2021. The Neutral Cider Hotel LIVE show is happening this year at the Bristol Cider Salon on Thursday, the 12th of August, so please plan to join guys for a live recording of the show. For more details and to purchase tickets, go to our Eventbrite page.In this week's show, the guys are putting the world to rights. Pulling back the curtain on what it takes to run a hotel, the guys drink the wares of guests that weren't and ciders that were had but no one heard they were had.We finally taste Sandford Orchards Vintage Series, with a dial-up delay and the wonderful Kentish Pip, featuring the movers and shakers Discovery, and the ever easy Skylark. We also note some cider makers we didn't have on the show, but had hoped to and want you to check them out. Those include Angry Orchard, The Son of The Smiths Cider in Japan, some traditionalist ciders from the likes of Julian Temperley or Roger Wilkins, Raging Cider & Mead in San Diego and Tanuki Cider. And, for the record, this is not Kingsbury Episcopi! Then, for our feature this week, we opened up the Patreon vault again and found you another great, but never aired feature called “Scotta Get Through This.” Grant challenges the boys on their knowledge of Scottish slang and, let's just say someone needs to shoogle some sense into them. This is a mini-episode, shorter than usual, but no less fabulous. And, don't be afraid to leave us a message about the podcast, the live show, any of Gabe's books, auto repair questions or anything else at our Speakpipe! Everyone Dies In Sunderland: A podcast about growing up terrified in the eighties and nineties
The gang takes a look at the murder of noted dermatologist Dr David Birkett by the notable idiot Reg Wilson, an attempt to commit the perfect murder with the aid of Japanese erotica, stencils and crashing a motorbike into a wall like Jay did on The Inbetweeners that time, but still managing to leave fingerprints at the scene. Reg did manage to build a ladder in a maximum security prison though, so that's something.John is quite mean to Lewis Capaldi and names a section of his lawn after an unnamed actor. Gareth wants to know how to kill a Rottweiler. Claire knows how to kill a Rottweiler. Gareth sings “The Circle of Life” from the Lion King. This is unconnected to the Rottweiler stuff. Timmy Mallett invites a friend of the show to stay for Christmas. Consett's Premier Ellie Kemper Impersonator also makes her first IRL appearance. Digressions in this episode include: Legendary Newcastle floating nitespot the Tuxedo Princess, Wrestlemania VI and mortality, getting a lift with Samuel Beckett, unlikely Daniel Bedingfield merchandise, The Wizard, the SNES, Rilo Kiley, Mel Smith's dad being from Tow Law, The Piglet Files, Crime Traveller, fuzzy felt, Sooty (well, Sweep) and rebel cricket tours of apartheid South Africa. We would love for you to speculate at the identity of the actor inverviewed by John at everyonediesinsunderland@gmail.com, on Twitter at @everyonediespod, on Facebook and Instagram. But we will confirm NOTHING!We'd also love to hear your playground chants. Do you remember the “Margaret Thatcher, stick her in the bin” song? Surely you remember the "Margaret Thatcher, stick her in the bin” song.Sooty, Sue and Mr Harry are enjoying a refined musical evening. Sweep interrupts with a series of increasingly unsuitable instruments. Seriously, it's the most wonderful thing you'll ever watch https://twitter.com/archivetvmus71/status/1304406014490537988?s=20 We don't even mention Reg trying to hide from the police in a transparent phonebox. You can learn more about that in this episode of Crimewatch https://youtu.be/EN4HmUNOuds This is a good article about the unofficial/unforgivable tour of South Africa by English cricketers in 1990 - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/england-s-rebel-tour-south-africa-1990-i-thought-mike-gatting-might-get-killed-out-there-9996444.html If you have no idea what the Daniel Bedingfield joke was about, perhaps this will help https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/bedroom/lily-allen-womanizer-liberty-premium-sex-toy-women-adult-vibrator-female-review-b1220936.html *Wac90 this year of course wideawakers!

In this episode, Leah and Taraleigh have the pleasure of sitting down with a whole family of talented musicians, Denise and Bobby Deitch, and their son Adam Deitch. Fans get a real treat by experiencing the love, connection, and support of the Deitch family and a glimpse into Adam’s early influences and first live performance that transformed his childhood experience. Adam talks about how he is staying busy during COVID times and ways he is continuing to bring music to the people. For the “Did you Know” section, Leah provides research on the emotion of love, often present during live music, and Taraleigh tells listeners how to cultivate love in all its forms in her “Daily Jam.” Denise Hettinger Deitch has studied music since her early childhood. In middle school she was in a special music program in NYC when she began playing drums. She then attended Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in Music Education. During her time in Boston, she performed on drums with various bands. She then moved to NY to be with family with her husband and baby son. Denise performed with Bobby as a duo 4 to 6 nights a week in the NY Tri-state area for approximately 21 years. During that time she began teaching music in NY area and obtained a Masters degree followed by an additional 60 credits. She then retired after teaching for 25+ years. She is now performing as percussionist and background vocalist with the Bobby Deitch Band and teaching drums and piano privately. Bobby Deitch began his love for music at the age of 5. His eclectic musical taste was attributed to the fact that several genres of music were played in the Deitch household, on a daily basis. Bobby gravitated to drums by age 8. At age 8 Bobby’s uncle Dave Abrams, a well-known professional drummer and vocalist was an early influence on Bobby’s early musical development and by age 11 his parents purchased his first drum kit. After graduating high school in 1971, Bobby focused on studying music more seriously and moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music. There he began to work on all aspects of music such as composition, harmony, ear training and counterpoint with some of the best instructors in the business. Bobby has performed on drums on several recordings such as pianist/composer Richard Sorce’s acclaimed Latin album “A Place I’ve Never Been” and guitarist/Berklee faculty member Richie Hart’s “331/3” album. In April, 2020, Bobby, along with his band The Bobby Deitch Band (BDB) released their second album, “Work With Whatcha Got”, which has reached global acclaim. Adam Deitch’s career has crossed genres and he plays the role of both producer and drummer. Recent highlights include a Grammy nomination for Ledisi's Turn Me Loose for which Adam produced and co-wrote two songs, co-writing and production for Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's Sony debut, production of two tracks on Matisyahu's latest and a platinum single for Italian rap sensation Fabri Fibra. In 2020, Lettuce was nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album with their 2019 release Elevate. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts,

(A brief content warning for this week's episode - we do discuss eating disorders throughout this podcast. These are only our subjective experiences - if you or someone you know is struggling, you can call The Butterfly Foundation's confidential hotline on 1800 ED HOPE!) Why are beauty standards in the gay community particularly fucked? Why is dating as a gay man so fucked? Both of us have had our struggles with all of this (and thankfully come out the other side somewhat well-adjusted (emphasis on ‘somewhat')) so we sit down to talk about everything from fillers to ‘thinness' as a commodity. Of course, it's not all serious. It never is! We also talk about: - Tina Fey, who - conspiracy alert - is a confirmed listener of the pod - Does straight culture exist? (Yes, and it's Kmart) - The kid from the McCain's ad, who is apparently a hot gay now? - The secret content goldmine that is Facebook groups - Oh and the last 5 minutes or so are an absolute trainwreck. Something to do with Daniel Bedingfield and beans. We don't know. And because we can't say it enough, we do need to keep taking tangible action to support the fight against racism and bigotry. Noughties pop star Natasha Bedingfield joins Dan as she returns to music with her first album in nine years. The Unwritten singer opens up about the pressure of following in the footsteps of her famous brother Daniel Bedingfield, the struggles of fame and the devastating prenatal depression she suffered before giving birth to her son Solomon. Fresh from the release of her new record, Natasha also talks about writing Cheryl's comeback single Love Made Me Do It and their relationship after going on tour together. In the early 00's The Streets burst onto the scene. Original Pirate Material was like nothing else around. Combining garage beats with everyday stories from a geezer we could all relate to. Mike Skinner wanted to literally push things forward, taking the garage genre in a new direction and using his lyrics to talk about what was really going on inside the hearts and minds of people in the clubs. It struck a chord, and The Streets got a lot of attention. Over five albums Mike Skinner would tour Australia a whole lot, always playing festivals and always drawing a huge crowd. Then in 2011 he called it a day, releasing his final album and doing his final shows as The Streets. Music stayed in his life though. He threw himself into producing, directing, and most notably DJ-ing, behind the decks instead of out front on stage. Across his five songs choices we get a snapshot of a kid writing raps in his notebook in a hostel in Sydney. As well as the man today who is older, wiser, more grounded but with plenty of stories to tell. From Johnny Cash to Grim Sickers to Daft Punk, this is The Streets, Taking 5 with Zan Rowe and playing us his songs from then and now. Johnny Cash – 'A Boy Named Sue' Snoop Dogg – 'Serial Killa (ft. The D.O.C., Tha Dogg Pound and RBX)' Grim Sickers – 'Open the Till (ft. Ghetts and Mike Skinner)' Daniel Bedingfield – 'Gotta Get Through This' Daft Punk – 'Human After All / Together / One More Time / Music Sounds Better With You' (from Alive 2007)

Continuing the soul-stirring journey through our Backspin series, we've curated the "Addicted to Bass," a spiritual successor to our earlier set. Dive into the abyss of hypnotic beats and reverberating basslines that shaped the turn of the millennium. The tracks we've handpicked for this installment are timeless, remaining as invigorating today as they were at the peak of their popularity. Let's delve into some of the gems this episode has to offer. Puretone's "Addicted To Bass," is a track that cascaded through speakers with an almost hypnotic allure, here spiced up by Differentgear's unmistakable flair. Then you've got Celeda's "The Underground," an edgy staple of the early 00s, retouched by none other than Peter Rauhofer. This one's a primal call to the dance floor if there ever was one. If you're seeking more cerebral thrills, Kosheen's "All In My Head" gives you that introspective vibe, enhanced by Planet Funk's creative reimagining. Of course, who can forget Fragma's "Toca's Miracle"? No Backspin collection would be complete without this pulsating anthem. This extended mix requires no tweaking—it's a masterpiece in its own right. Then you have the sensual "Dove (I'll Be Loving You)" by Moony, given an exotic layer by Stephane K. & John Creamer, and Rui Da Silva's "Touch Me," featuring Cassandra, which is amplified by Double 99's touch. Cassius's "The Sound Of Violence" takes an invigorating turn with Narcotic Thrust's intense club mix. And if you're in the mood for a twist, you'll appreciate Daniel Bedingfield's "Gotta Get Thru This," spruced up by Passengerz. Don't think we're done with surprises. Ever heard rock blended with dance? Check out Coldplay's "Clocks," which Heaven & Earth Division remix into a dance floor revelation. Then there's the whimsical yet poignant "They Say Vision" by Res, given a suave revamp by Robbie Rivera. These early 00s Dance Classics offer a snapshot into an era where genres blended and musical norms were subverted. Whether it was the influence of DJs, who often took these tracks and turned them into transcendental experiences, or the original pulsating beats that made them classics, each tune in this Backspin episode speaks to a time of musical exploration and freedom. So there it is, another enriching trip down the musical avenues of the past, serving both as a reflection of where we've been and an enduring testament to the staying power of quality dance music. Until the next time...ENJOY!

We have finally reached the end of 2002…yippee! I think going forward, I'll split the annual editions up. For instance, when I get around to 2003, I'll post the first three mixes one week, and the remaining volumes an alternate week about a month later. Personally, I think posting everything all at once is a little too much, not to mention the time it takes to put it all together. Regardless, I won't be doing 2003 anytime soon. Instead, I'll probably do something like another 90s edition, but that won't be until July or so. In the meantime, I'm serving up the remainder of all that was good in 2002. I do want to make one little side note that the classic “At Night” by Shakedown didn't make the cut because I couldn't work it in. I wanted to mention it, so as not to think I had forgotten. In fact, back in the day, I had made what I like to call the “orgasmic mix” of this song. I always thought it needed a little something and the female moans starting in the middle to the end just seemed appropriate for the song. I put this out on the net and the next thing I know it's was put to vinyl as a White Label release. It kinda made me feel proud that people were diggin it, so one little pat on the back for me. Once again, I've managed to pack in some monster tracks from the year. We have the alternate Moony track by DB Boulevard “Point of View.” The Lange mix was a big ole trance number that I preferred over the more subdued house version of the original. Then who could forget the big room tribal of “Dark Beat” by Oscar G. and Ralph Falcon? Massive is what this song was and the Guisseppe D ‘Hands in the Air Anthem' was just that…a full out anthem. Other big monsters were Mary J. Blige's “No More Drama” which by all accounts was about the drama, Kevin Aviance's “Alive” and the smoldering “You Got Me (Burnin' Up) by Funky Green Dogs. Aside from you mainstream re-works by Daniel Bedingfield, Laura Pausini, Anastacia and Paulina Rubio we have some seriously addictive dark underground house by Cassius and Puretone. “The Sound of Violence” was definitely dark and sinister while “Addicted to Bass” was just pure fun. With it's diversity in all things electronic, I believe 2002 was an outstanding year for club music. Memories is what these mixes are made of and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them. I'm going to be taking a few days off to re-charge my batteries. I had held up the release of the BPM edition because there wasn't much worth putting together, even a month ago. I can honestly say, that's all changed. I've got a folder chalk full of new promos begging to be heard. I'll try to go through them sometime this weekend. My goal is to keep it down to no more than three mixes, so in order to make the cut, the song has to really hit me by the third note or it ends up in the recycle bin. I'm going to relax a bit before heading out to the gym. Rick and I will be going to see Star Trek later this afternoon. I can hardly wait! Two weeks later we get Terminator. I guess I'm showing you guys my inner geek, but I love sci-fi and am particularly excited to see how they've moved a 40-year-old franchise forward. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll be back sometime next week with the next BPM edition. Until then…enjoy!
