Treat Jen to Coffee www.PATREON.COM/JAVAWITHJEN Took book a call with Jen about coaching with her to get YOUR podcast started: subscribepage.io/BookACallWithJen Get this 7-Essential Steps to Podcast Creation Checklist for free : subscribepage.io/StartYourPodcastChecklist ——————————————————— ABOUT TODAY'S EPISODE: Relationships are at the core of who we are as women, but when we begin to believe lies about our relationships, whether thats because of trauma or simply misunderstood scripture, maybe things they've been told growing up, or by an influential person in their life. Regardless how the lies come in, they impact our relationships and can detract from our ability to have healthy, enjoyable relationships. In this episode we dive into some of the lies women believe about their relationships, how that's influenced by past trauma and how to begin to move out of those lies. My guess Sarah Jane Ho is a Pastor and licensed counselor and brings so much wisdom in this topic as well as next week's episode! SOIL: S- Stuck out Scripture - scripture that pops when you read it. O- Observation Orientation - Make observations about the facts surrounding your reading. The Who, What, Why, How, When, Where I- Insightful Interpretation - The facts that I just discovered, what is God saying to me about these facts? How am I supposed to receive that? Hint: Follow peace! Peace is God's tool to show us we are in the right place. L- Learn from it. - By choosing to listen to Him and learn from the reading, it impacts me which impacts others around me. When considering context for scripture reading, keep in mind: CONTEXT, CULTURE & CONTENT A RED FLAG that someone is living out of their trauma instead of from a healthy place, is that there are communication issues. Blaming, gaslighting, name calling, refusal to communicate, stonewalling, needing to have the last word, needing to be right, needing to point the other person back to their own faults, refusal to take responsibility. PRESCHOOL VERSION of communication: Listening, responding with a summary of what was said (indicating understanding), and then problem solving. What happened, how that made you feel, and what can we do moving forward to enact change. ——————————————————— ABOUT SARAH JANE: As a wife and mother of five children, I am always on the go. I spend my time as a freelance writer, pastor, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Looking back, it is clear that I have always been a writer of some sort or another, I can even recall keeping diaries as a child and even writing poems as an adult but the realization of it was obscured from my view until I began homeschooling my children years ago. My writing is a way for me to express the emotions and reactions I have about how God views relationships and how women were designed as co-heirs, just like their counter parts. As a writer it is my desire to use my writing style to glorify Him through truth in love and with a little bit of humorous anecdotes on the side. We've heard before in many sectors and areas of expertise.. if you can't do, teach!Although that might be true is certain professions, that can't be said for math. To teach math, you have to know the material and know it well.In this episode of After Math, co-hosts Sarah and Ifaz talk about teaching math with Vincent Chan, a researcher turned teacher who shares important math skills with his own children and others. This is a great episode for Moms and Dads struggling to make math add up for their kids.Guest Vincent ChanVincent completed a Bachelor's of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (2009), double majoring in pure mathematics and applied mathematics, before staying on to complete a Masters of Mathematics in pure math (2010), then went to UBC for his PhD (2014). He has taught at both UBC and U of C. Since then he's become a K-12 math teacher at Renert School. In his free time, he coaches students in competition math and has volunteered with the math outreach team at U of C. He's worked with extremely strong students in both Calgary and Edmonton to further their passion in math. In 2018, he was named one of the coaches for Team Canada in the International Math Olympiad held in Romania. It's a pretty logical question (or is it philosophical?). What is Math? For Ifaz, Math is the study of structures to reveal properties of themselves through creative and systematic application of logic. For Sarah, Math is the language of the Universe, a way to understand how our World works and how things relate to each in a form we can both prove and appreciate. How ironic the interpretation of what Math is – actually has more than one right answer.CONNECT WITH Sarah and IfazWebsite: after-math.caEmail: hello@after-math.caSocial Media:Twitter - @after_math_cast Instagram - @after_math_cast Facebook @aftermathcast

Unforgettable: Messaging | Leadership | Personal Brand | Visibility
Sarah Hennessey is a Sustainability & Wellness Coach supporting self-identified female misfits who are looking for a sustainable and alternative twist on living a truly healthy life. As someone who was too shy to speak in school growing up, Sarah spent most of her life definitely not seeing herself as a Messenger. When she started her business as an adult, she felt more comfortable as a virtual assistant behind the scenes of others' businesses. Then she felt the pull to step out as a leader and share what she had to say. She had a background working with kids on the spectrum of autism and a degree in Psychology with a concentration in child development and disability. But the pressure of visibility made her feel the need to hide her own neurodiversity and other differences that she thought would stop clients from hiring her. The dichotomy of online marketing is the push to differentiate yourself while simultaneously holding a fear of being seen as different. Through joining a supportive group of other Quiet Messengers that didn't judge her, she realized that what she had to say — and who she was — was of value to people. She didn't see any wellness coaches with ADHD, so she made herself her own role model – which led to her first paid coaching client. She created a brilliant niche and discovered her ideal client on a much deeper level and so was finally able to clearly and compellingly connect the threads of her messaging and communicate what she had to say. Now she's talking about so many things she had never talked about in public before – like this episode where she speaks publicly about her neurodiversity for the first time. She's learned that taking a stand is not about being super aggressive; it can just be confidently saying something meaningful. Listen in. Sarah and I talk about: Why sharing her own personal stories – like being the child of teenage parents – creates connection points with potential clients The exciting and terrifying transition from behind-the-scenes Virtual Assistant to using her voice as a Messenger Her assumption that being an expert was about sharing facts, when in reality the posts with the most engagement and connection are the personal posts of her life and stories Where templates are helpful and where to yield to the power of being in relationship A call for embracing neurodiversity — and why the world is a better place when we have all types of brains, perspectives, and folks who view the world in different ways How she's reclaiming and owning the word “misfit” Deeper support from me: What's your Messenger Archetype? Take the quiz. It's final enrollment for the winter cohort of the Messenger Mastermind! It's an intimate circle of sensitive, introverted women leaders who like cozy spaces for connection, growth and processing and who want to feel solid, confident & consistent in their messaging so they can grow a movement that matters ~ both to the world and to their business' bottom line. 275: Using YouTube To Change Girls Lives With Sarah and Kaitlyn This week we are joined by Sarah and Kaitlyn from the Answering Questions No One Does YouTube channel. We talk about their WHY as to what made them start a channel, making a difference in young girls lives and using YouTube to do so and SO MUCH more! About Sarah and Kaitlyn: We have been best friends since we met in 1st grade (over 15 years ago). In December 2018, our sophomore year of college, we launched our channel with a mission. We realized kids in this day and age are so lost and confused due to the amount of “advice” on what a good, healthy life looks like from celebrities and influencers who are lost themselves. The proof is in the pudding: Gen Z is statistically the most depressed, anxious, and suicidal generation of all time. Our channel intercepts the noise of the world and delivers life-giving truth to middle schoolers, high schoolers and college students on everything from relationships, to sex, friendship, spirituality and mental health. Since starting our channel, we have brought our mission into the real world by speaking at universities and high schools. In our busy, frenetic worlds it's almost impossible to stay present. And with all the pain and trauma that most of us have, but haven't processed yet, who even wants to be? But all those unexamined emotions and feelings don't go away by ignoring them. We've talked about this before on the podcast, but the body remembers. What happens when we start practicing mindfulness and become more present? What tools can we use to work with discomfort? We aren't the first people to say it, but focusing on your breath is a free and eternally present method for healing. ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 060 Pediatric Occupational Therapy with OT4Lyfe - Sarah Putt Sarah Putt is the host of the OT4Lyfe Podcast, where she interviews thought leaders in the occupational therapy community. Sarah is discussing early intervention and answering questions about her profession and how it benefits families like ours. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Tell me about why you started your podcast, OT4Lyfe. Occupational therapy is my life and OT is the "why" of life or "lyfe". My show is all about occupational therapy and I bring on occupational therapy practitioners, students and other people affiliated with the practice area to discuss anything and everything occupational therapy. I love podcasting to talk about occupational therapy, but also promoting and advocating for the profession because a lot of people don't know what we do. What does occupational therapy entail? It's a broad field and occupational therapists can work in different practices areas with different focuses. Occupation is defined as how you occupy your time, so anything you do in a day such as self care or leisure activities. We are the experts on occupation, studying what the meaning and purpose of occupation is in people's lives. We have a very broad lens of who we work with and the type of work we do. Someone coming to us generally has a diagnosis, disability, injury or age-related difficulties that interfere with activities. I work in early intervention with kids from birth to three years old and focus on hitting developmental milestones and the family dynamic of parent education, including sensory integration, sleep, feeding, fine and gross motor skills. What should a parent do if they don't think a therapist is the best fit? Having the experience of working with so many families, I have an appreciation for the circumstances around this. Therapists need to understand that we may not be the right fit for every family. Families need to understand that each therapist has a different approach and that approach may not work for their kids. If you are a parent and you don't feel like a relationship is working, communicate it with the therapist and organization. What questions do parents and caregivers need ask in order to maximize their child's care plan? Therapists need to be proactive in explaining who we are and what we do from the beginning because some families may not know how we can help. If your therapist isn't bringing this up, ask about the overall therapy process and ask how to best support the process. If you ever have a question about a process, therapy or goal, have the therapist explain what they're doing and how it connects to the end goal. There needs to be openness and clear communication from both sides. If parents and caregivers can't follow through with OT homework, how does that affect the overall therapy goals? I really try to embed whatever I want families to be doing into their routine so it becomes a habit. If you can eliminate barriers and find ways to embed homework into your natural routine, it helps to do it organically. If a therapist is asking you to do homework, there's a reason they want that extra opportunity and repetition for the child to engage in the activity in addition to the time they have with the therapist. There's a lot of benefit to doing these activities and finding a way to embed them into the regular routine in a way that works and doesn't add stress. I've never pushed out an interview episode this fast before, but unprecedented times call for unprecedented action, and if you have an online business, there has never been a more important episode for you to listen to. Today I'm bringing you my own business coach and a dear friend of mine, Sarah Swain. Sarah is a former corporate hustler turned lifestyle entrepreneur obsessed with helping women earn money doing what they love. Writing books, hosting events, running two podcasts and coaching service based entrepreneurs are just some of what you can find Sarah doing during her day to day. Sarah is fuelled by her passion, a burning desire for others to believe what’s possible and have the courage to take action on it. Edgy, humorous & bold are some of the words that have been used to describe her as she embraces her authenticity to reach peoples hearts. When she isn’t hustling and trying to elevate the world of service- based entrepreneurship, you can find Sarah running off to the Canadian Rockies to refuel with her husband Rob. This is the third time Sarah and I have done a podcast episode together, which is how you know how special she is since it's rare for me to bring back repeat guests. But this was far too important, and Sarah has some crucial messaging that you need to hear as an online business owner. Sarah is giving us some imperative insight into: How the global pandemic with the coronavirus changes EVERYTHING, including the entire marketplace Why things are so different now than they were even a week ago Coming to our people from a deep place of service, compassion and heart Why stepping up as a leader has never been so important. The shame around selling when there are people hitting tough economic hardship Addressing shifting priorities from a place of impact Losing some of the bullshit around "there's never been a better time to have an online business" that can come across as downright arrogant in times like this Getting to know our people and our market all over again And perhaps more important than anything else, making sure to manage your own energy and needs before anything else. I cannot stress the important of this episode enough. Please tune in, share, and DM either Sarah or myself with any questions you might have that come up from this discussion. Additionally, I'll be going live on Instagram & Facebook every single day at 8am ET until this is over, whenever that may be. Each day will have a different theme, and overall the idea is to create more connection in a time we desperately need it more than ever as we are physically isolated. Please join me - and I promise to make you laugh, too. We'll be covering topics like how to address the shifting circumstances the coronavirus is creating, online business & podcasting, managing your mental health, and finding the small spots of joy in tough times. Support LGBT Stories Donate or Shop Here www.ourlgbtstories.com Yesterday was Bisexual Visibility Day. It's a day for those in the bisexual community to stand up, declare their bisexuality, and proclaim their seat! This last weekend has been nothing short of transformational for me. I went to the 2nd annual bisexual pride parade in West Hollywood, CA. The event started off with a festival where I was able to meet new friends and eat good food, then a parade walking around the streets of West Hollywood. The bisexual flag was flying high above us all, while we chanted rhythmic chants in support of bisexuality. It was pretty amazing. I could sense the pride and comfort that so many people there felt - they finally felt as though they're being not only seen but acknowledged. However, what they might not have been able to see was how I was feeling. The entire time, and I mean, the whole time; I was feeling a deep sense of sorrow and remorse for my lack of participation in the bisexual community. Here I am, a gay man who has come so far in his life - living out and proud. Meanwhile, there are billions of bisexual people who are still today, in 2019, living in the shadows. And not just "the shadows"... MY SHADOWS. Here's the thing, I refuse to sit back, have the platform of LGBT Stories and not acknowledge that so many of us in the gay, lesbian, and trans communities have devalued or belittled the bisexual community. I have so many times witnessed bigotry in our community directed towards the bisexual community. It's not ok. It needs to continue to be called out, and it MUST stop. And I say this directly to my gay brothers, the slander, and hate that our community cast over the bisexual community is unacceptable and disgraceful. How dare so many of us do precisely what was done to us decades! Do not act as though it doesn't happen, because you and I both know that it does, and it. And that is why I am so pleased to have Sarah share her story on the show today. I put a call out on social media yesterday for someone explicitly bisexual to share their story on LGBT Stories because today's episode airs one day after Bisexual Visibility Day. I am glad that I did. When Sarah sent me the audio of the performance that you're about to hear, and I listened to it I was deeply moved by her way of telling a story, but more so by the continued confirmation of what people in the bisexual community struggle with daily. I encourage you to listen to her story and especially those of us who are gay, lesbian, and trans; try and see commonalities in your own life experiences.
