Everyone is trying to optimize their health with trackers, supplements, morning routines, and biohacking tools, but sometimes the basics are still the biggest needle-movers. In this episode, we unpack why sleep, stress, relationships, food quality, and even walking may matter more than the latest wellness trend. We dive deeper into this in the Habits & Hustle Podcast with Shawn Stevenson. We also chat about melatonin, sleep quality, wearables, fat loss, protein, weighted vests, GLP-1s, and why your relationships may be the most underrated longevity hack. Shawn Stevenson is the host of The Model Health Show, one of the top-rated health podcasts. He is the author of Sleep Smarter, which became an international bestseller and has been translated into more than 20 languages. He is also the author of Eat Smarter and the Eat Smarter Family Cookbook. What's Discussed: (02:11) How Shawn Stevenson wrote one of the first bestselling books on sleep before it became a wellness trend. (03:08) Why sleep was the missing factor for clients who were doing everything “right” but not seeing results. (04:20) How morning exercise can help reset your cortisol rhythm and improve sleep quality. (09:29) What people misunderstand about melatonin and why taking more is not always better. (22:16) Why waking up in the middle of the night is not always a problem. (27:28) Are wearables actually improving your health or making you more neurotic? (37:04) Why your relationships may be the number one factor in longevity. (48:19) How sleep deprivation can make you lose muscle instead of body fat. (55:16) Why calories matter, but food quality changes what your body does with them. (1:18:14) The weighted vest study that explains why gravitational loading may help prevent weight regain. Habits and Hustle

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 26, 2026 11:22

Are you counting yourself out before you even give yourself a real shot? A lot of people have big goals, real ambition, and a clear idea of what they want, but they never actually try because deep down, they don't believe they could be the person who pulls it off. They look at other people who have succeeded and assume those people had something they do not, when the real difference is often much simpler: they tried, they kept going, and they believed it was possible before anyone else did. When you start asking “Why not me?” instead of assuming success is reserved for someone else, everything changes. You stop putting other people on pedestals, you stop disqualifying yourself before the game even starts, and you start building the kind of confidence that only comes from taking action. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I share why the “Why not me?” mindset has made me feel unstoppable and how changing the way you see yourself can change the way you show up in every area of your life. What's Discussed: (00:34) Why we underestimate ourselves and overestimate the people we put on pedestals. (01:16) How the “Why not me?” mindset can change the way you approach success. (01:50) The real difference between the people who succeed and the people who count themselves out. (02:02) Why self-belief still requires hard work, grit, and repeated attempts. (02:46) Why advocating for yourself can feel uncomfortable or egotistical. (04:29) Why people need to stop counting themselves out before they even try. (05:51) Why some people are not lazy, they simply do not believe they are capable. (06:10) The myth that you have to be “special” to achieve big things. (06:50) How believing you are capable can become the thing that makes you capable. (07:10) Why repeating the “Why not me?” mindset can rewire the way you see yourself. Thank You to Our Sponsors! Rest is not something you earn. It is something your body needs the same way it needs water. And a lot of women are running on empty and calling it discipline. The problem is not that women are lazy about sleep. It is the opposite. Women who train the hardest, who push through the most, who never stop going are often the ones lying awake at midnight completely wired wondering why their body will not shut off. Because pushing through all day does something to your nervous system that a few hours in bed cannot undo on its own. And nobody is talking about that part. But we will, in this episode where we get into why your brain will not quit at night, why you cannot catch up on sleep the way you think you can, and what closing a stress cycle actually means for women who never fully switch off. This week I am sitting down with Kathryn Nicolai, the creator of Nothing Much Happens, the biggest sleep podcast in the world with over 200 million downloads. Kathryn spent 20 years as a yoga and meditation teacher working with real women through real seasons of life before she built an entire science-backed practice around rest, nervous system regulation, and why the way you move through your days is either quietly supporting your sleep or quietly wrecking it. If you train hard and still lie awake staring at the ceiling, this one is for you. What's Discussed: (11:53) Why women who push through everything are often the ones whose nervous systems take the biggest hit at night  (14:49) What a stress cycle actually is, why most women have too many open tabs running, and what actually closes them  (19:38) What most people get completely wrong about why they cannot sleep  (25:54) What storytelling does to the brain that meditation and white noise cannot  (32:37) What brain training actually means for sleep and what happens the longer you stay consistent (47:56) What to do when nothing is working  (53:31) Kathryn's personal 3am secret she barely ever shares Join us live on Monday, June 15 at 5pm CST and you'll get a special discount on BroadsCOACH BUILD if you sign up for the Summer Cohort on the call. Maybe you are in your 40s and quietly wondering why the workouts, meals, and routines that used to work suddenly are not working the same way anymore. And sister, this is not a discipline problem. Perimenopause is a hormonal transition, and it can affect your muscle, metabolism, sleep, mood, energy, recovery, cravings, and body composition. So in this episode of Embrace Your Real, I'm breaking down what perimenopause actually is, what is happening hormonally, why your old approach may stop working, and what will help your body the most in this season. What's Discussed: What perimenopause actually is and why you can still be in it even if you are getting your period Why perimenopause can begin earlier than many women expect and last for years How estrogen and progesterone shifts can affect muscle, metabolism, sleep, mood, and recovery Why the same workouts and eating habits that worked in your 30s may stop giving you the same results Why strength training becomes even more important for your muscle, metabolism, blood sugar, bones, and body composition Why doing more cardio and eating less can backfire during perimenopause How protein, carbs, and healthy fats support your body through this hormonal transition The Movement With Julie app is there when you need a workout that is already planned for you. Episode 564: What Makes Someone A REAL Entrepreneur?

    Habits and Hustle

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 19, 2026 19:21

I have a bone to pick with the word entrepreneur because somewhere along the way, it became less about building something real and more about having a sexy title in your Instagram bio. Everyone wants the label, but not everyone has put in the time, taken the hits, failed, adjusted, and kept going long enough to actually earn it. In this episode of Habits & Hustle, Shani and I get into the difference between being entrepreneurial and actually being an entrepreneur. We also talk about fake business gurus, online courses, social media self-promotion, and why you need to be way more discerning about who you trust, follow, and pay. Because here's the truth: selling a course on success does not automatically make you successful. If you want to build something real, you need persistence, proof, and the ability to get back up when the first version does not work. No sexy bio line.  No fake guru playbook.  Just the actual work. Let's dive in. What's Discussed: (00:59) Why the word “entrepreneur” has become the new sexy Instagram bio label. (02:15) What actually qualifies someone as an entrepreneur versus someone who just wants the title. (03:08) The problem with people selling courses on entrepreneurship when they haven't built anything themselves. (04:04) The real difference between being entrepreneurial and being an entrepreneur. (05:27) Why selling a course can make someone a good internet marketer, but not necessarily a qualified business expert. (06:15) How social media creates the illusion that someone is more successful or experienced than they actually are. (07:35) The fine line between being an entrepreneur and being a snake oil salesman. (10:24) Why discernment matters when deciding who to trust, follow, listen to, or buy from online. (12:04) The “do your own research” mindset and why people get burned when they blindly trust influencers. (12:54) How Shark Tank and social media made everyone believe they could build the next big business. Thank You to Our Sponsors! Momentous: Ready to try supplements that actually do what they claim? On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we are past the quarter century park, so it's time for reflection on television and its impact on us. Ergo, we debate the most rewatchable TV shows of this century. An important note, this does not mean the greatest shows, this means comfort food, television we keep coming back to that is like a warm blanket. Shows like Modern Family, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Psych, Justified, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Lost, Fringe, Schitt's Creek, and a host of others. We narrow it down to our Top 16 TV shows of this century - a mix of popularity, listener choices, and our own - and whittle it down to THE most rewatchable TV show of the century! That's not all! Also on this episode, Disclosure Day, Office Romance and others appear on our Whatcha Been Watchin' segment, Paramount and Warner Bros. is a done deal, 60 Minutes drama with Bari Weiss, and much more. This is my birthday month. It is also the one year anniversary of my mom's death. And I have a lot to say. This past year has been the most significant year of my entire life. The highest highs and the lowest lows all stacked on top of each other, sometimes in the same week, sometimes in the same day. Grief that got heavier the further away I got from it. Guilt I carried like a jacket I could not take off. A complicated relationship I had to learn how to grieve twice. And wins I almost felt too guilty to celebrate out loud. But something shifted. A sunset walk. A moment. And everything started to make sense in a way it had not for a whole year. This episode is personal. It is raw. It is not scripted. It is me at 37 sharing what 36 beat into me and what I am carrying forward. And if you have ever been in the messy middle of something really hard while also trying to keep showing up, this one is for you. What's Discussed: (1:41) Why grief gets heavier the further away you get from it and not lighter like everyone says it will (5:03) The guilt, the shame, and what it felt like to carry a complicated love for a whole year (7:35) Why forgiving herself was so much harder than forgiving her mom and what finally got her there (10:00) The sunset walk that changed everything and the moment she finally understood why she does what she does (17:58) Why she refuses to dim her shine even when life is also really hard and why you should not either (19:03) The wins from the last year she is celebrating out loud because her mom would have wanted her to (25:26) Five lessons from 36 going into 37 that she had to learn the hard way (31:34) What she is leaving behind at 37 and what she is finally ready to bring in If you are going through a loss, a complicated relationship, a heavy season, or you just need someone to remind you that you are allowed to feel it all and still keep going, this one is for you.  Find out more from Broads: Website: www.broads.app Instagram: @broads.podcast @broads.app BroadsCOACH: Head to www.broads.app/broadscoach and apply for BroadsCOACH. Modern relationship advice is everywhere, and most of it is making your relationships harder, not better. These are the buzzwords that we see spread all over the internet like the misused attachment labels, the "be more vulnerable" coaching, the body count debate, and the love bombing warnings. Sadia has spent years working with couples one-on-one, and almost none of it holds up in real practice. Sadia Khan is a psychotherapist and the author of The Red Flags:The Truth About Love, Trauma, and the Lies Your Therapist Didn't Warn You About, a book built around the 10 questions every therapist should be asking their clients and every partner should be asking each other. She has worked with hundreds of men and women to fix what conventional therapy keeps missing, and her approach has built her one of the largest relationship audiences online. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, Sadia breaks down why your therapist's advice may be quietly hurting your relationship, the real reason high body count damages men more than women, why people pleasers suffer more in relationships than narcissists do, and the four green flags that actually predict whether a couple makes it. This is one of those conversations that will make you rethink every "diagnosis" you have ever given an ex or a friend who's “avoidant”. What's Discussed: (5:36) Why love languages and attachment theory keep failing real couples. (6:51) The therapy advice that is quietly making men less attractive to their partners. (8:38) Why people pleasers suffer more in relationships than narcissists do. (12:43) How honesty, not niceness, is what builds real intimacy. (21:14) The narcissist label and what insisting on it actually says about you. (31:16) The four green flags every healthy relationship is built on. (1:21:14) Why high body count damages men more than women. (1:45:50) The pattern most men fall into when they cannot be alone. Thank You to Our Sponsors! Have you ever felt completely stuck when it comes to body image, or really ANY area where you just can’t get unstuck, no matter what boxes you check? In this episode, Heather Creekmore dives into the underlying reasons we stay stuck and offers a biblically-rooted path toward true freedom. Episode Highlights Why Do We Get Stuck? Exploring the feeling of desperation and stuckness, especially around body image or life circumstancesHeather Creekmore shares the real-life struggle and the “one thing” mindset00:00:09 Parallels with the biblical story of Rachel & Leah’s desperate longing00:03:01 The Root of Stuckness: Envy and Comparison How envy eats us alive—what Rachel and Leah were really longing for, and how this shows up in our own lives00:03:51 The dangerous pattern of “Give me _ or I’ll die!” and how this mindset affects our faith and contentment00:05:10 False Solutions and Chasing Idols Why achieving our desires (like Rachel’s longed-for baby) doesn’t satisfy in the end00:10:17 How “self-improvement” can actually lead to more pride and stuckness instead of freedom00:25:17 The Call to Pure Humility A deep dive into biblical humility vs. pride; why humility is about focusing less on ourselves00:13:15 The example of Mary (mother of Jesus) and her response of true humility and worship00:24:35 Getting Unstuck: Practical Steps Why you can’t do it alone—why Christian community, confession, and honest conversations are crucial00:31:19 How zooming out (not magnifying your own issues) can change everything00:30:26 Final Encouragement Reminder: body image healing isn't just mental...it’s spiritual. Disclaimer: Both Chris and Kyle were watching the Knicks when multiple big track performances happened, so some of the detail recall is shakier than usual. No regrets.Discussed in this episode:– Knicks NBA Champions: Chris and Kyle grew up as New York sports fans, and CITIUS MAG as a company exists in part because the two bonded over the Yankees and Knicks.– Cooper Lutkenhaus beats Emmanuel Wanyoni in Oslo, 1:42.08: Photo finish — 1:42.08 to 1:42.09. World lead. Personal best. At 17 years old, he has now beaten the Olympic gold medalist and the Olympic silver medalist in the same 2026 season. His 2026 unbeaten record: six finals, six wins. – Ja'Kobe Tharp, 12.75 world record (110m hurdles prelim): The least surprising collegiate record of the weekend — it was coming — but the world record was genuinely shocking.– Adaejah Hodge, 10.63 (+1.9) in the 100m prelim: Breaks Sha'Carri Richardson's collegiate record of 10.75. Moves to #5 all-time globally, behind only Flo-Jo, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. Also runs 21.68 in the 200 final for the collegiate record (breaks Abby Steiner's 21.8 from 2022).– Habtom Samuel, 5K/10K double: Light work. His kick is on another level from the current NCAA field. Marco Langon made a brave move at 400 to go and was humbled for it — not his fault, it's just that Haptam had a whole other gear.– Jaiden Reed, 19.63 (200m): Breaks Walter Dix's NCAA record that had stood since 2007. Most surprising record of the weekend.– Simeon Birnbaum, 3:36.05 (1500m): Second place was 1.13 seconds behind. Wire to wire. He broke the 25-year curse: no athlete who broke the NCAA mile or 1500 record had also won the title that same year. Birnbaum did both. Kyle gives his hypothetical 2026 World Championships team if one existed.– Jane Hedengren: Third in the 10K, ninth in the 5K — after being bedridden with illness all week, disclosed after her 10K race.– LA Grand Prix | Parker Valby wins the 5K in 14:39, a 10-second personal best from her 14:49 opener three weeks ago. She's now ninth on the US all-time list, ahead of Molly Huddle and Jane Hedengren. We set the over/under on 14:27.5 for this season.– Looking ahead: Ostrava on June 16th (Noah Lyles vs. Gout Gout in the 150, Tebogo vs. Gout Gout in the 200 — the more interesting race). The most powerful longevity tool you have is not in a bottle or a needle. It's in the quality of your relationships. There's a body of data that's been saying this for decades. Yet, the wellness industry kept focusing on the other direction of wellness. Shawn knows this not only because he read it in a study but because he lived the opposite of what healthy relationships look like first and paid for it with his health. Shawn Stevenson is the host of The Model Health Show, the no.1 nutrition and fitness podcast in the United States, and the bestselling author of Sleep Smarter and Eat Smarter. He grew up in poverty in St. Louis, was told at 20 he had the spine of an 80-year-old, and rebuilt his health from scratch with no money, no access, and no roadmap for any of it. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, Shawn makes the case that we have been optimizing the wrong thing all along. Your culture, your community, and the quality of your relationships are what the largest longevity studies keep pointing to, and almost nobody in wellness is talking about it. He also gets into why GLP-1s and peptides are a shortcut to the wrong destination, what circadian medicine is about to change, and why the healthiest thing you can do today has nothing to do with your supplement stack. If you have ever felt like your circumstances were too far gone for health to even be possible, this episode was made for you. Your subconscious mind is running 95% of your decisions. Your conscious mind, the part that's setting goals, making resolutions, and telling itself to do better, is only working with the remaining 5%. That gap is why knowing what you should do is never enough. Thais Gibson has spent over a decade building a framework that actually closes that gap. She is a counselor, founder of the Gibson Integrated Attachment Theory™, and has worked with over 60,000 people through The Personal Development School. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, she breaks down why self-sabotage is not what we all think it is, how your attachment style is quietly running your relationships, and the exact process to rewire patterns you have been carrying since childhood. This is one of those conversations that will make you look at your own behavior completely differently. What's Discussed: (00:05) The real reason your conscious goals keep losing to your subconscious programming. (15:30) What your attachment style is actually telling you about your childhood. (29:00) The attachment combination most likely to end in a vicious cycle. (45:00) Why dating a secure person does not fix an insecure attachment. (58:00) That one belief that's quietly destroying your ability to connect. (1:05:00) What limerence is and why people mistake it for love.
