5 Things Millionaires Avoid (That Keep You Broke!)
Have you ever felt resentment about how responsibilities are divided in your relationship? Kate Mangino joins us to break down why this dynamic exists—and more important, what you can do about it. Outdated gender norms are causing a lot of problems for people whether they're married, dating, or in a queer or straight partnership. Luckily, some small, everyday changes can lead to a more balanced home life where everyone has time for work, family, and themselves. We're talking about the book, Equal Partners: Improving Gender Equality at Home. Does cardio actually help with fat loss? Yes! If you don't make these 5 mistakes that sabotage fat loss. If done right, you can use cardio to melt belly fat. Let's start with the first mistake… #1 Overdoing Steady-State Cardio Why it's a mistake: Spending too much time doing long, slow cardio (like jogging) can lead to a plateau, increased cortisol levels, and even muscle loss. While steady-state cardio can improve endurance, it's not the most efficient way to burn fat or build cardiovascular health. Fix: Incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or alternate between steady-state and resistance-based cardio. #2 Ignoring Strength Training Why it's a mistake: Many people rely solely on cardio for fat loss, neglecting the benefits of muscle-building exercises. Without strength training, you miss out on the metabolic boost and long-term calorie burn that comes from increasing muscle mass. Fix: Combine cardio with resistance training to maximize fat loss and metabolic health. #3 Doing Too Much, Not Recovering Enough Why it's a mistake: Jumping into intense cardio routines without building a foundation can lead to burnout, overtraining, or injuries. Fix: Gradually increase the intensity and duration of your cardio sessions to allow your body to adapt and recover. Track sleep, HRV and resting heart rate Discuss hormesis #4 Neglecting Nutrition Why it's a mistake: People often overestimate how many calories they burn during cardio and underestimate how important recovery is. Overeating after a cardio session can offset fat-loss efforts, while inadequate recovery can lead to fatigue and reduced performance. Fix: Focus on balanced nutrition (high-quality protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs) and prioritize rest, hydration, and sleep. #5 Doing the Same Routine Repeatedly Why it's a mistake: Repeating the same cardio workout leads to diminished returns as your body adapts to the routine. This makes it less effective over time. Fix: Vary your cardio by mixing different types of exercises (cycling, rowing, running) and intensities to challenge your body and keep it progressing.
Hello, hi! Today's episode features a returning special guest to Medium Lady, my friend Stephanie Cunningham. Stef can be found on instagram @steffski where she role models real-life living, sharing both the highs and the lows of homeschooling, intergenerational living and breaking the “highlight reel” so that her friends and followers feel like they can share in the chaos of this season of life. Episode Summary Stephanie's guiding principles about what she shares online are about authenticity and serving her own interest first, which is such a refreshing point of view when we see overly curated or highly produced content online We discuss how much our attention might be drawn to “online perfection” while we also desire seeing, meeting and building connection with people who are “just like us” A really amazing part of our friendship is that we're both creating content online: Stephanie and I reflect on where we've become more mindful about creating content even when it's hard to resist the pull of “virality” we acknowledge that it's not good for us and it's not good for our communities Through thoughtful exploration time and time again with my audience I have been teasing apart the nuance of guilt experienced by women. What comes up time and time again are the concerns and worries that women have about their motherhood: am I doing enough of the right things for my children? Am I giving them the childhood they deserve? If we all want to give our kids a magical childhood where does that desire come from? How is it affected by curated motherhood content online? Our kids also have their focus drawn to content online and just like us, they have desires to bring that online content into their real lives - this changes the stakes for how we manage their expectations, and ours. Part of our desire for our children to have a magical childhood comes from the emerging conversation about how much our parents' choices affected us, and why we might feel compelled to make sure our kids never have similar experiences. “Cycle Breaking” happens when you're willing to get off the pendulum and acknowledge that your parents did the best that they could and sometimes they made mistakes and those mistakes affected us. The best way I've heard this said was listening to advocate and speaker Prasanna Ranganathan when he said his parents were “always careful to protect me while never limiting my opportunities. Curating childhood as millennial mothers also includes awareness of screen time and how we help our kids interact with screens Our job as parents is not to make sure our kids are happy 100% of the time…. But what about the holidays? The pressure increases to curate a perfect childhood around the holidays and this can be exacerbated by what you see online. One KEY question to ask yourself around making memories this holiday season is “What do I want our family/my kids' takeaway to be from this season?” and maybe, (probably) that will mean going against the mainstream in some way or another Stef and I also chat about the days that aren't “holiday” and the specialness of Ordinary Time - most of our days are these sacred ordinary days and there are plenty of opportunities to bring mindful celebration and gratitude to those “regular old” days. You don't have to do this on you own! Stephanie and her partner Craig make time to plan and work out their intentions together before they get too deep into the season Other Episodes you might like: Episode 119: 9 Small Things I'm No Longer Feeling Guilty About Episode 117: Medium Effort Advice - “Help! Over-functioning, especially among women in the midst of divorce, becomes a relentless cycle of exhaustion and misplaced control. Join me, Karin Nelson, as I share insights, personal stories and heartfelt exploration of how societal pressures and more lead us to take on too much, become burdened by the mental load of it all and feel like we have the world on our shoulders - always at the expense of our own well-being. Learn how recognizing and addressing these patterns can be the first step towards reclaiming your identity and peace of mind. This episode sheds light on the deeper roots of over-functioning, revealing how it's often intertwined with self-worth and past experiences. It's not just a habit; it's a stress response learned from a young age, stemming from environments where proving oneself was a necessity. By shifting our focus inward and aligning our mind, body, and spirit, we can begin to understand and appreciate our inherent worth, free from external validation.I'll introduce the concept of weaponized incompetence and discuss the power of setting boundaries and opening up to trusting others. Through grounding techniques, somatic practices and mindset shifts, you will know just how to break free from the cycle of over-functioning. Hello, hi! Today's episode is a personalized list of all the little things that I let myself feel guilty about. And through the episode I give myself permission to let these things go, mostly because there's nothing wrong with them! This episode is for you if you feel like you spend too much time trying to navigate guilt when you're just trying to relax and enjoy yourself. Episode Summary Check in: I've just come off an amazing experience hosting a live-in person event conceived by Jam Gamble creator and CEO of the Slay the Mic program and community Today's episode is a riff on some things I've been mulling ever since interviewing Tami Hackbarth from Episodes 113 and 114. Tami talked all about 100% Guilt Free Self Care, and I've personally struggled with going from all the guilt to none of it - this list of small things I'm letting go of is my way of using Medium Effort to get past guilt especially when it comes to the small stuff. Medium Effort Here's my medium effort list of 9 things I'm no longer feeling guilty about Buying and eating candy as a grown up Shopping at a budget grocery store Not eating enough protein Reading a lot Watching my shows on the big tv Buying stupid stuff on Amazon that I could afford but didn't use Taking vacation days to be alone Buying used books and not reading them Not monetizing or not monetizing sooner Mindful Fun If you write your own list your follow up task is to look at it with a lighthearted point of view Try to laugh especially if you've been carrying guilt about small things - you silly goose! Let that stuff go! We're not going to let ourselves feel bad about feeling bad A Moment of Gratitude: I share my gratitude for my podcasting equipment. Host Sue Duffield is presented with the question often, "Aren't you just too busy? How do you do all the travel, the conferences, the podcasts (4), recording, the followup with events - let alone spend quality time with those you love, etc. etc.?" And to that she usually responds, "I dunno." But her gauge is always IF she's too busy doing what she loves or feels called to do, and IF she falls into anyone of those five definitive categories mentioned in this episode, then maybe it IS time to take a good look at the difference between busyness and productivity. Take time to reflect, rejuvenate and even resusitate yourself if you have to, but always be aware that if you're doing way too much, your body and your LORD will always tell you! Sue discusses five key points that are almost full-proof if you feel like you're doing WAY too much. If your relationship with God suffers at the expense of you going non-stop, then that's the only proof you need to know. It's time to do something about it. www.sueduffield.com radiosue@me.com

ProjectME with Tiffany Carter – Entrepreneurship & Millionaire Mindset
One of the most overlooked and deadly addictions… Alcohol, pills, gambling, and even food addictions are the obvious ones… There's a widespread addiction that is likely slowly killing you right now. It's causing you stress, suffering, financial, relationship, and major quality of life issues. Damn it is cunning… The addiction of doing TOO MUCH..the addiction to always doing, instead of simply being. Our egos and society programming manipulate us into feeling like we aren't doing enough…so if we just do more, be more productive, get more crap done then we will achieve our desired result (whether that be happiness, success, significance, appreciation, etc…). When in fact DOING TOO MUCH is the problem. This is what's blocking your abundance. Even thinking that you have to do more or be more is a scarcity belief. I can hear that inner critical voice of yours right now saying,” well Tiffany I can't just sit back and do whatever the hell I want and expect things to happen.” If you had a version of this thought, you're living in an all-or-nothing world…. basically anything other than constantly doing means failure. This is my biggest addiction, if I left it unmanaged, it will suck all of the joy out of my life, while sabotaging my success. There needs to be a balance of DOING AND SIMPLY BEING. If you find yourself living in either extreme, I can guarantee you aren't genuinely happy with your life. It is as equally productive to DO as it is to BE. The energy of BEING is to be in a state of surrender, allowing yourself to receive. Reap the rewards of your efforts. Relish in your restorative rest time. If your life feels unmanageable, take a non-judgemental inventory of your ratio of DOing to BEing. Join Catherine in this episode as she explores what happens when we give so much of ourselves to support others be that in personal relationships, working relationship or in a volunteering capacity. This episode endeavours to find a balance between doing and being, caring for others and caring for self. It tries to illuminate the truth that your needs are as important as the needs of others & that self care is a critical way to support ourselves in this busy, busy world. This episode was recorded in one take so there may be imperfections but that's reflective of real life - imperfect! and Catherine's goal in this podcast and this life is not the attainment of perfection but rather the acceptance of her flawed self. Do yourself a massive favour today - don't rob yourself of the love you can offer yourself ❤️
Recorded January 9, 2022We call this the episode that went left because instead of discussing humans doing the most, the conversation was actually more like the ruminations of grumpy old women. Even the phrase "too much" was purposefully changed to "tew much" in honor of the way Rhumel's grandma would say it. Over the episode you'll hear us using words and phrases like, Get off my lawn, newfangled, whipper snapper, old fogeys, ole school, 2 live crew, and THE facebook. Sigh.... Yeah.... we said all those old lady phrases. SMH! Listen in and laugh at/with us. PS We are certain we stepped on some toes so feel free to respond on our facebook page. If you know anything about Clifton, Passaic and any of the surrounding areas you know it is never short of exceptional cuisine hailing from across the border and Bitol is certainly a noteworthy and new addition. Bitol provides a fine dining spin on traditional Mexican favorites such as MOLE, Enchiladas, Ceviche and even items I've had the pleasure of experiencing for the first time such as Tlayudas- which are Mexican style pizzas that are decently portIoned for groups on a budget and pair well with any of their signature craft cocktails. Definitely a chop worthy addition in my book so if you're ever in the Clifton or Passaic area and looking for a sophisticated, casual, lounge like atmosphere serving fine Mexican cuisine and creative drinks- stop by Bitol Cantina located at 1061 Bloomfield Ave- Clifton, NJ 07012, OR make a reservation on open table or at their website bitolnj.com. I am a planner in every sense of the word. Once an idea is conceived, I take it and I run with it. I work tirelessly making sure no detail is overlooked, taking care of all the logistics, and making sure every kink has been worked out. Any event with my name attached to it will scream, “Excellence!”As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NLTThis is a familiar passage of scripture, and every now and then I have to refer back to it. Maybe it's because the things I once took for granted, I now cherish, like family and friends. In the scripture, Mary made the wise choice to sit at the feet of Jesus. I was once guilty of assuming the role of Martha. There were times I became so upset over the details that I made my guests feel extremely uncomfortable, instead of providing a warm and inviting atmosphere for them. Doing Too Much.We all know someone (maybe it's you) who spends days/weeks leading up to a major holiday, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, cooking, cleaning, decorating, etc. When the day finally arrives, they are either too tired to enjoy the festivities, or anxious and frustrated because they don't want anyone to mess up their home or their beautiful decorations/displays. THAT'S WHY IT'S THERE, SO PEOPLE CAN ENJOY IT! Isn't it? Or is it there to make you feel good about yourself, so people will compliment you on the great job you've done, and tell you how everything is so lovely? I'll let you ponder that…I have taken a step back from planning as many family events as I have in the past. I grew tired of missing out on spending time actually engaging with family and friends; all because I was busy making sure everything was “Just right.” I was Doing Too Much. Let's not forget what is most important: Our loved ones, those we care about, precious time spent creating memories, and taking a trip back down memory lane (Every family does it). Most people will not remember the décor or the menu, but they will remember how they felt.Let's stop being so concerned with the details. Plan, decorate, and make everything nice, but don't let it consume you. Instead, focus on what matters most. My last family gathering, I think my family was surprised. I had a simple menu, I didn't cook anything (everything was catered), no extravagant decorations; just good food, good times, and sweet fellowship. I wasn't worried about how amazing things looked (none of that matters). I was excited about laughing, singing, telling stories, swimming, eating, and enjoying the company of everyone in attendance. My primary focus is now those who want to spend time with me; be it family or friends; not trying to make everything “Perfect.” I am no longer guilty of Doing Too Much. As we prepare for the upcoming Holiday season, I suggest you do the same. Cherish what matters most. Those around you (family and friends) are your first Ministry. Don't ever lose sight of that. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:35).Remember, if God said it, then That Settles It.

You're not winning because you're not carrying your load correctly! Effective load management is the difference maker between success and failure in both business and private life. These statements set the tone for today's podcast. Many of you want to be successful, and a part of the 1%, but you're holding yourselves back by carrying a load that's not yours to carry or, carrying what is yours, incorrectly. Some of that weight looks like the opinions of parents, siblings, and others who have everything to say about how and what you're doing but aren't doing any of the work. The most critical step to take in effective load management is ignoring the comments and opinions of those whose opinions don't matter. If you're wondering whose opinions "don't matter," and why, here's a clue; if they aren't pulling alongside you, grinding it out with you day in and day out, their opinions don't matter. Period. This week, ET breaks down the three things you're doing that are standing in the way of your success. Effective Load management is the name of the game, and the guys break down what that looks like while offering great insights on how to identify your load limits and apply effective load management in your life and business immediately. Top Home Theater Design Mistakes, Part One "I've spent the past 20 years in the custom installation industry, and it would be no exaggeration to say I've worked with more than a thousand clients during that time. A regular part of my job is consulting with clients on the design and installation of media rooms and home theaters. (The difference between the two: a media room is a social, multi-use space, while a home theater is a purpose-designed room for watching movies.) Sometimes the project is a new build (the best). Other times it involves repurposing a room or trying to fix and improve an existing room." 1. Too Many Seats 2. Risers Too Low 3. Question! So, what's this new obsession with the phrase "doing too much?" ...and why is it made out to be such a bad thing? ...and what do I do when because of my commitment to success, it's used in reference to me? In this episode of Collaborative Thoughts, titled,"It's Hard Being The One Who Made It," we hear from three women committed to "doing too much" in spite of what others think. If you find yourself finding it hard to transition to your next level because of those around you, check out this episode of the podcast. For this episode, the guest collaborator was Christina Kanu, Director of Communication & Community Relations for Bonfire Impact, co-facilitator for The Dream Academy, Clark Atlanta Master's of African American Studies scholar, and self-titled leadership expert. Discussion Points: "Doing Too Much" What is it? Why do others seem to think it's such a negative attribute? How do I know I'm called to be great? Christina's Story At what point did you know you were different? (Christina's perspective) How do I handle the call on my life? (Dorian's perspective) How do I handle others being unable to handle the call on my life? (Christina's perspective) What if I know I'm called but I'm not willing to be set apart? (Dylesia's perspective) Examples of "Greats" throughout history Their story How he/she resisted the pressure to be like every one else The outcome of his/her resistance What can we learn from him/her? Often times people will be able to identify your talent, but that doesn't mean they will be able to identify your purpose. ♥Xo, Happy Listening! || subscribe below ||
