A Tapestry of Cultural DiversityTampa's cultural landscape is as diverse as its population, reflecting the influence of various communities that have shaped the city's identity. From the historic Ybor City, once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World," to the contemporary art scene in the Tampa Bay area, the city is a melting pot of different cultures and traditions. Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant Cuban, Spanish, and Italian heritage, evident in the local cuisine, architecture, and lively festivals that celebrate Tampa's rich multicultural tapestry. Some of the most unique areas of Tampa to visit are Downtown Tampa, South Tampa/Bayshore, Ybor City, and Citrus Park.Ybor City is a vibrant, historic district filled with attractions, unique restaurants, and plenty of entertainment opportunities. The area is known for its Cuban heritage, evidenced by the many cigar factories and Cuban restaurants, bakeries, and cafes. Ybor City also has numerous antique stores and specialty shops, accompanied by a variety of museums, art galleries, nightclubs, and music venues. The area holds several festivals, such as the annual Cuban Sandwich Festival, as well as performances from the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team. So many of my buyers are looking for new construction in the Tampa Bay area and there are lots of housing options to choose from, but I want to share four popular communities that I show often in Pasco County, just north of Tampa. Three of these developments are in Odessa, and one is in nearby Land O' Lakes. State Road 54 is the main road that leads into all of the neighborhoods. Odessa is farther west compared to Wesley Chapel, so it's closer to the beach. If you work in Downtown Tampa, MacDill Air Force Base, or the Westshore district you have multiple routes to commute everyday including the Veterans Expressway / SR 589, which connects to I-275. There are lots of shops, businesses, and restaurants in this part of Pasco County, and Florida state school grades are pretty high for most of the schools in this area. Ryan McDonagh, Tampa Bay Lightning Ice hockey defenseman, joined AM Tampa Bay to discuss Lightning Kan Jam Event happening Friday, February 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Sparkman Wharf in Downtown Tampa.
"You make a great Manhattan." I say to the bartender, when he stops back by to ask how it is. I recently started drinking Manhattans. It is a classic drink from way back. I discovered them this past Thanksgiving. Single now, I was asked to join my brother at my parents townhouse for dinner. My brother has been single his whole life, and has never had anything to do, other than to dote on my parents. I have always had to "fit" them into my otherwise busy family schedules, but not him... and he's a martyr about it. When I asked what I could bring, he said "nothing, I have it all covered". What a dick. But I'm not going empty-handed, and I recall my parents enjoying those classic cocktails. For Mom it was the Sidecar, and for dad... always the Manhattan. So I hit the liquor store, with my internet found recipes, to buy the necessary ingredients. Not to be completely overshadowed by my brother, I drop about $250 on high quality stuff and head over. Dad is in rough shape, glued to a recliner, with an oxygen tank and a TV remote. He asked me once if there was something other than Netflix... because he had seen all of it. Mom looks at my armload of liquor with surprise, and my brother shakes his head and frowns. "He can't drink Steve." he says, trying to take any wind out of my sails. From the other room my Dad says, "Sure I can, it can't do any more damage." I give my brother a grin, and start following the recipes. 30 minutes later, I hand my Mom her Sidecar, and bring my Dad his Manhattan, partially blocking his view of the TV. He takes a sip, and let's out a huge smile. I have not seen him smile in a long time. I'm thinking to myself, "Fuck you brother". Then Dad hands it back to me "That was great, thanks" — Great! You took one sip. — "You can finish it" he says. So I do, and now it is my favorite drink. Dad died a week later. It's 7:30, Thursday night at CW's Gin Joint in Downtown Tampa. This place is always crowded. I am sitting at the bar with my foot on the stool next to me, as if to say, "Don't even think about taking this chair." We were supposed to meet at 8, but I always arrive early. I enjoy my solitary Manhattan time, but just one. Drunk on a first meeting seems like a bad plan. I always find a spot where I can clearly see the front door. There is something about watching a woman, dressed to the nines, first walking in. Her face a combination of nervousness and hope, as she scans for a man who she has only seen in photos. We are meeting for "Drinks", but of course I have a dinner reservation for 8:30 setup, in case things go well. The clock ticks 8, and as if she had been waiting outside for that exact moment, the door opens and she enters. Wow... she's the opposite of a catfish... she looks even better than her photos. I am nervous for a second that she might be out of my league... but I've never lacked confidence, and the concern passes, as I wave from my seat. Both of our profiles listed us a 5'-8", but she is wearing 4" heels, which becomes obvious when she reaches me at the bar. I don't mind a bit. "Steve?" she says, a slight questioning in her voice. I look exactly like my profile, so I am not sure if I am detecting disappointment... but I mirror the motion, "Sarah?" "Yes!" she says, and moves in to give me a hug as I stand. I'm not sure why, but a hug seems so much more optimistic than a handshake. "Have you been waiting long?" she says, as she drapes a sweater over her stool and slides onto it. Not wanting to seem too eager I say, "I got here just before you". She eyes my almost empty Manhattan, and obviously knows better. We had been chatting for a few days prior, so we had already covered some of the basics. I wave the bartender over, "What can I get you miss?" he says to her. She replies, "I'll have what he's having." It does not make any sense, but for some reason, I am extremely pleased with this answer. She does not even know what it is. I'm not sure if it was the Manhattan I already had, or not, but it suddenly feels warmer in here. First meetings are kind of like dancing with someone the first time. You step on each other's toes as you find the rhythm. When things are clicking, it does not take long to get in sync, when they are not, that sync never happens. She is wearing the perfect dress for this. Not too short or tight, but enough for you to see what her body may look like. It is not the most important thing to me, I am pretty open to different body types... within limits. Still, I take the opportunity to look her over, as she is looking the place over facing away from me. I am a man after all. Her drink arrives. "Cheers!" — she says holding her glass up towards me. I pick mine up to move it towards her's and she stops me, — "It is bad luck to cheers without looking into each other's eyes". I look up, above the rim of our almost touching glasses, and meet her gaze. "Cheers!" I say, and we clink glasses. I am not sure how long I should hold this gaze, but I decide I will let her break it first. Several seconds go by, then she smiles and takes a sip, still not breaking the gaze. I turn my head back towards the bar, losing this round. I am a little flummoxed, this is feeling a lot more intense than a first meeting normally does ten minutes in. I don't want to lower the heat, but I don't want to assume the heat is elevated either. I don't even know her yet, and could easily be misreading things. "So, where did you go on your last vacation?" I say, knowing that question usually leads to some conversation. "Bahamas" — she says — "with my ex." I am hoping this is not the start of hearing about her ex from now on. I get it... it was the last person you cared about. Mentioning them here and there is fine, but too much... says you may not be over them. I have already had my "rebound" girl, and I prefer not to be someone else's "rebound" guy. It's a shitty spot to be in. It's a little awkward now, I don't want to extend that line of conversation, because I obviously don't want to have the ex become the focus. "But I don't want to talk about that." she says, and I'm relieved. You can't help yourself. If things are going well, even on a first meeting, you kind of let your mind wander with what-ifs. You start picturing what life might look like, if she became a part of it. I'm picturing Sarah now, with me, in the Bahamas. It's not a bad picture, but I don't even know her yet. She has a professional job, and seems to have her shit together, and my mind starts assembling the pieces of who I think she is, when she interrupts "Are you hungry?" "I'm starving!" I say, as I give a thumbs up to the hostess from behind her back. "Me too!" she says, as the hostess arrives and says "I can take you to your table now." Sarah looks at me, with one eyebrow raised "Just drinks huh?" I smile and shrug, as we make our way to the table I had previously requested in the corner. I slide into the seat in the corner facing out, as she takes the seat to my right. It is a little trick I learned. Nobody wants to sit with their back to the restaurant, and by taking the corner seat, she will naturally sit next to me, on one side or the other, instead of across from me. But I get the feeling she would have either way. "Here's the menu, specials are on the first page insert, can I freshen your drinks?" says the waitress. I look up... damn she waited on me for my last "first meeting" here. I hope she doesn't say... right as she says "Welcome back sir." crap. "Come here often?", Sarah says, and I act like I did not hear her, "Yes, two more of these I say, looking at her for approval" She nods, and the waitress turns towards the bar and scurries off. Appetizers can be an interesting test, "Do you like Escargot... or Calamari?" I ask. "Either, or both." she says, clearly not intimidated by them. I look around the restaurant and notice a few guys checking her out. I smile at one, who is looking a little too long, and he moves his gaze upwards, as though he was just looking around. It does not bother me. What would bother me, would be if she was looking around at others, but she's not. I bring my eyes back around to hers, and she is looking into them. I am wondering if she is also processing some "what-if" thoughts. "We'll have the Calamari and the Escargot to start." I say to the waitress who has returned with our Manhattan refills. Manhattans are strong... I know that two is my limit, and I wonder what her limit is. We gaze into each other's eyes, and clink again, "Cheers!" we both say in unison. We devoured the appetizers, she was not even pretending to not be hungry. I ordered a big steak, and she ordered some fish thing that was on the specials page. Conversation was easy, we found a rhythm pretty quick. Not content to wait for me, she motions to the waitress, waves a finger over our glasses, and signals for two more. This is about to get interesting. Ordinarily I would be switching to beer now, and I have no idea what her limit is. She is clearly feeling it, as am I, she got quite giggly over the last hour. The food arrives to our table of gigglers, and I'm not even hungry. I do that all the time... order a big meal, and then have two bites of it. Maybe it was the appetizers, or maybe it was the Manhattans, who knows. She seems to be in the same boat, but eats a little more than I do. The alcohol is kicking in and we are mellowing out now, giggles replaced with sultry looks. I am not trying to give a sultry look, it's just how I look when I've had too much to drink... not sure about her though. "Are we done?" the waitress breaks the sultry silence. "Ummm,", I look at Sarah, who nods. "Want any boxes?" the waitress asks, looking at the mostly full plates. I look at Sarah again, she shakes her head, the table is cleared, and the waitress vaporizes. I am looking at our almost empty "third" Manhattans. I definitely don't want another one, as I am sure I will embarrass myself. "Care to see our dessert cart?" — the waitress is back — "or a refill on your drinks?" Please, please, please.. "No" Sarah says, we're good. Whew, I ask for the check. It's almost 11 PM, the night has flown by, as I realize I am sitting with a woman who has had too much to drink and drive. Hell, so have I. It's not that far a walk to our individual places, but I would have to escort her to her's first, so that would be a long walk for me. "What do you want to do now?" she asks. I was already thinking that this first meeting, had turned into something a lot longer than I had anticipated. I like her, and I am buzzed, so I don't want to screw it up now. "We should probably call it a night," — I say — "we both have work tomorrow." hoping logic would kick in. "You can come over to my place," — she says with a hint of a slur — "or we can go to yours... they're same distance." Okay, I'm a guy, and like all guys, I am hard-wired for sex at the drop of a hat. I'm looking at her, knowing it would probably be pretty awesome too. But... I'm not that guy. It's not that I have never had sex on a first meeting, but not when she is clearly buzzed. I'm pretty sure that's called rape, even if she does not regret it the next morning. I feel a hand on my leg, moving upwards under the table. I don't know, or even care if anyone can see. I'm also buzzed. She reaches my dick, and gives it a squeeze. I look at her, and see her tongue pushed slightly out of the corner of her smiling mouth. "Let me call you an Uber." I very reluctantly say.

One of the most popular Tampa Bay areas is definitely South Tampa, so let's take a closer look to see if it's for you! Generally when people are talking about South Tampa, they're referring to the peninsula that juts down into Tampa Bay with the northern boundary of South Tampa being State Road 60 (Kennedy Boulevard) and the southern boundary being MacDill Air Force Base. So why do so many want to live in South Tampa? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION South Tampa is close to two large commercial areas - the Westshore District near Tampa International Airport, and Downtown Tampa. That makes for a convenient commute. However, you would have pretty quick access to highways bringing you to other Tampa Bay areas including I-275 and the Crosstown Expressway. It's also close to fun places around Downtown Tampa like Amalie Arena, Curtis Hixon Park, The Florida Aquarium, Glazer Children's Museum, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, and Sparkman Wharf. EATING, DRINKING & SHOPPING Because South Tampa has been a popular areas for a long time, many local and chain businesses and restaurants have set up shop here. You don't have to go far to find an amazing restaurant, fun boutique, or grocery store. SCHOOL DISTRICT If you've been looking online at listings, you probably see the phrase "in the Plant High School District." Plant High School is consistently one of the highest rated in the area. Make sure you check the actual school zone for the house you're interested in purchasing. The other high school in South Tampa is in the southern portion of the peninsula - Robinson High School. *NOTE: School zones subject to change NOT COOKIE CUTTER Because the area has been built over the last century, every house looks different and there are plenty of examples where century-old bungalows sit next to brand new contemporary construction. If you value privacy, South Tampa can be a hard place to find it with many smaller lot sizes. Unless you are backing up to the water, golf course, or a street changes are good that you'll have a neighbor backing up to your property. NEIGHBORHOODS & HOUSING OPTIONS You can see beautiful, historic bungalows in Hyde Park Village, lots of new construction in Swann Estates from builders developing existing lots where older homes used to stand. There are townhouses close to Howard Avenue, and you'll find some walkable neighborhoods in South Tampa. Like Downtown St. Pete, South Tampa has some of the highest price real estate in the area since demand is so high. If you want a waterfront property in South Tampa, be prepared to spend well over $1 million. Other popular neighborhoods include Beach Park, Bayshore Beautiful, Ballast Point, Interbay, Westshore Yacht Club, Culbreath Isles, Sunset Park, Golfview, Palma Ceia, Virginia Park, nearby Davis Islands and Harbour Island. In this episode, Derek Mateos with Matcon Construction joins James to discuss all things construction and the development of Downtown Tampa. As a general contractor, true passion comes from looking back on past projects in order to see all that you have accomplished and see the transformation when concepts become tangible designs. While Matcon Construction completes over 50% of work in the Florida area, they have seen a growth trend towards more local businesses and less "chain" restaurants that bring in their own construction crews. This trend has lead to more jobs staying in Florida and the vision of the expanding Downtown Tampa has lead to an increase in the number of people moving to Tampa.

Hey Weight Loss Nation! www.TheWeightLossNation.com Today is Tampa Bay Tuesday! I'm ready to Rate & Review “CURRY LEAVES” RESTAURANT...which is located at 4843 w. Kennedy Blvd …Tampa, FL 33609 813 – 319- 4015 Hours Mon thru Saturday 11 AM to 2:30 PM & 5.00 PM to 9.30 PM Daily Sunday : 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM & 5:00 PM To 9:30 PM www.curryleavesindiancuisine.com I thought WAZE brought me to the “wrong” location at first, since it was telling me to TURN into the BP Gas Station. I was heading North on West Shore Blvd and WAZE told me to turn Right (East) onto Kennedy. I turn right and WAZE is telling me “You have arrived at your destination” I’m like……What???? It’s a Gas Station! I turn into the BP Gas station to get off the street, figuring I’m gonna have to “re-calculate” the directions. When I pull into the gas station……I see straight ahead…..next to the convenience part of the gas station…..a very small outdoor patio and a sign that reads above……”Curry Leaves.” I’m like…..no firggin way! This is the restaurant! In a gas station! I wasn’t happy to say the least. I parked in an area to the side of the convenience store, marked as “parking for curry leaves” and walk over to the restaurant. I literally stood at the front door and put my face against the door to look inside. Low and behold……I see about 15 tables with white linen tablecloths. I also see about 8 people inside eating. I open the door and step inside. A woman with a friendly smile, comes right up to me and asks me…. “Are you having dinner? How many?” I promptly tell her I have a party of 6, and she sits me at a long table by the front window. I ask the woman her name and she replies…..”Hershey” I’m like…. “Hershey…. like Hershey chocolate.” With a smile she responds….."Yes…just like Hershey chocolate." I ask Hershey for a beverage menu so that I could select a drink while waiting for my Podcasting buddies to join me for dinner. I selected “Marsala” Tea……which immediately reminded me of “Marsala” in the movie “Ben Hur” I LOVE that movie. ….I can hear Marsala right now….saying …….Judahhhhh……Marsallllaaaaa. , A few minutes later, Hershey brought me the tea and I could smell mint. I tasted the Marsala tea….. and it tasted of mint and “Indian” spices like Corriander. I’ll say it was definitely Different. A few minutes later, my buddies started entering the restaurant. Tonight…I was dining with good friend Dr. Rachel Haviland – host of Reclaim Your Health Podcast, my buddy Gabe Aluisy – host of Private Club Radio Show, my buddy Joseph Warren - host of “First 100k for Entrepreneurs” podcast, my buddy Jason Strohl – co-owner of Co-Creativ Virtual office and Business Lounge office space in South Tampa and Downtown Tampa. I also dined with my friend... the beautiful Ana Aluisy...Marriage & Family Therapist at "Come Get Help," in Tampa, FL. Come Get Help Also dining with me is one of my newest friends…..University of Tampa graduate…..Juhi Kore. Juhi is a 20 y.o. brilliant young woman from Bombay, India……who LOVES Tampa! Jew He majored in business and Political Science and is truly a GIFT to the planet. Besides her intelligence, I love her non-judgemental attitude as well as her…..no-nonsense attitude too! She Reminds me of myself when I was 20 y.o. and I thought I was going to save the world. Our waiter ……”Harish” came over to take our orders and I asked Harish if the owner of the restaurant was available this evening. Harish told us that Saji was the owner and he would bring him right over. In less than 2 minutes, a handsome, man came over and introduced himself as Saji Matthew….owner of Curry Leaves Restaurant. How Polite!!! I proceed to introduce myself to Saji and advise him that I will be rating & reviewing “Curry Leaves” restaurant on the Weight Loss Nation podcast. Saji had a very big smile across his face and nodding his head said …..”that is wonderful.” First question to Saji was…….”What made you decide to open Curry Leaves in a Gas Station?” Without any hesitation…..Saji promptly said……..I own the gas station and I always wanted to have a restaurant here. I opened a pizza place with another owner……and it didn’t do so well. We parted ways….and I decided to go back to my Indian roots and I wanted to open an Authentic Indian Restaurant, so the people of Tampa could experience and enjoy authentic Indian food. The restaurant is doing well and I have a large amount of “regular” customers now. The restaurant has been open for over a year now and has been doing quite well. When asked what item on the menu he would recommend to a “1st timer” at the restaurant, who wasn’t familiar with Indian food, Saji said……I would suggest the “Chicken Varutharacchathu” I had no idea what Saji said to me. I had to ask him to point the item out on the menu for me, which he did. To me…..he was saying…..”Vera cha cha” I know that’s not how you pronounce it…but…that’s what I’m calling it. “Vera Cha Cha” is chicken cooked in a coconut gravy. Sounded delicious. Saji said he would bring out a bowl for the table to try. Awesome…right? As a group we ordered different items, so that each of us could try different things on the menu. Here are the items we ordered……”Butter Chicken” which is Chicken in a “mild” curry sauce,. a dish called…..”HariYali Chicken” Another tough name. I decided to call that dish…..Rivera ….Harera….easier for me to remember…thinking of Heraldo Rivera. Rivera Harera is chicken in a “green” herb sauce, which comes on a hot skillet. We also ordered “Chicken Tikka” which is Chicken marinated in special spices then grilled on skewers. We also ordered…..”Lamb Vindaloo” which was lamb cooked in a “tangy” tomato and red chili sauce. And finally we ordered….Chicken Tikki “Marsala” which is Boneless Chicken cooked in a mild tomato and cream sauce. There are MANY Healthy items on the Curry Leaves menu. They even have a nice “Vegetarian” selection. From Mulligatawny Soup…..which I called “Mulligan’s Soup” for ease of ordering. Mulligans Soup is Lentil Soup with a splash of coconut milk. Absolutely delicious by the way! They also have a Fresh Garden Salads with a blend of Olive Oil and Lemon Juice. Yummy! As far as the meals we ordered……the healthiest to me was the “Rivera Herera” Chicken. Delicious combination of herbs & spices on the white chicken meat with lots of sautéed vegatables. Very Good meal! Now….. all the meals come with Basmati Rice. You put some of the rice on your plate and then spoon out your meal out of the “Tandoor Bowl” and onto the rice. I personally do not eat white rice, so I ate my meal as it was. Delicious as far as I was concerned. Saji also brought different “Naan” breads to the table, where you can “dip” the Naan bread into the bowls. Again……I don’t eat “white” bread….so I didn’t eat the Naan bread. Everyone else Loved the NAAN Bread. Kudo’s on the flavorful bread Saji! I tasted a spoonful of each meal that was put on the table, and my favorites were: Saji’s recommendation “Vera Cha Cha” The “Rivera Herera” Chicken Finally….The Chicken Tikki….which had fantastic flavor! After dinner…….Saji brought dessert out to the table. One dessert was called “Gulab Jamun,” which is Milk solids in a honey syrup. Saji also brought out “Mango Kulfi” and “Pistachio Kulfi” which is ice cream in the shape of a square…..that was as HARD as a rock! I tried a very small bite of the Mango & Pistachio Kulfi….which was quite good! Saji said they make the Kulfi fresh daily. I didn’t try the “Gulab Jamun.” Everyone else said it was pretty good. Overall…..the food was DELICIOUS! The prices are incredible, with the most expensive dish on the menu, coming in at $19.99, which was a “Mixed Grill” A combination of chicken, lamb and shrimp. Most of the meals are around $12.99 with portion size very satisfying.
