One of the biggest shifts I've seen in the last 5 years or so in fashion is the desire many of us have for less in our wardrobes. I hear words like “streamlined closet”, “simple outfit formulas”, and a general want for fewer but better options when it comes to getting dressed. Our lives are busier and we want our wardrobes to be more functional than ever. Maybe you find yourself in a position like our anonymous community member who sent in today's Q&A Thursday question. She's on the hunt for pieces that can go from casual to dressy, so she doesn't need to stock up on more than is necessary for her life as a mom and new business owner. She wants to transition easily and effectively from caring for her littles to meeting with clients. But of course, this doesn't mean your wardrobe needs to be boring! Because she's also looking for ways to add fun pops of color and dress in hues that flatter her skin tone. If you're nodding along right now, thinking about how much you want this, too. Then, stick around and join me for this episode where we're going to talk about easy ways to dress up your outfits in a snap along with fool-proof tips to branch out from neutrals and pick pops of color that bring out your best. I can't wait for this one! Let's get into it, friend. Suit and tie or t shirt? Slacks or jeans? Dressy or casual? In today's episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek talk about how a person ought to dress for church. There are a lot of beliefs around this topic, often rooted in culture and tradition. Our goal is to look through Scripture and see if there are any laws that we should be dogmatic about and other principles to follow. Our hope is that as you listen, you will better understand what exactly Scripture says about this topic and let that influence your culture and tradition in the church you attend. The 17:17 podcast is a ministry of Roseville Baptist Church (MN) that seeks to tackle cultural issues and societal questions from a biblical worldview so that listeners discover what the Bible has to say about the key issues they face on a daily basis. After a spectacular week of celebrating our 150th Episode last week, we are back this week to brag about the publication of Holly's fashion advice recently featured on The Today Show website: Best Linen Pants for Summer! READ IT HERE: https://www.today.com/shop/best-linen-pants-rcna91136 #yyyaasasssss Believe it or not, Holly has not previously owned linen pants. #ummno This is not surprising for those of us that live in Southern states – because - linen gets wrinkly before you can even start THINKING about wearing it. #Facts #Ugh However, in doing research for this article, Holly was happy to find ‘linen-blend” options that she has totally warmed up to, and is now recommending. And, in the spirit of summer fashion, we are throwing in summer T-shirts, and even recommending appropriate summer flip flops on this episode (even though your favorite personal stylist may or may not have totally bashed this shoe option in a previous episode)! #Weeeeeee #LookNoHands! Summer Linens: Every summer, your social feeds are flooded with dreamy linen clothing options: White linen pants, linen shirt dresses, linen button-down shirts, etc. It all looks super cool, refreshing, flowy and fun - until you buy something and dare to try it on, let alone wear it somewhere and try not to get wrinkled. You can hand-steam all you want, besties. This stuff will look like you've been sleeping in it for week the second you get dressed. #damn So, if you want the linen look, and not the sloppy, lived-in look, Holly has your summer style tips all lined up for you here! HOT TIP: Please go to the HOLLY KATZ STYLING Pinterest board to follow along visually: https://www.pinterest.com/hollykatzstyling/top-t-shirts-flip-flop-linen-pants-for-2023/ LINEN PANTS Repeat after Holly: Linen-blend is your summer friend, not your enemy. You can wear linen pants! Regular linen is made of untreated, natural fibers that have not been bleached, colored, or treated in some way. So, there is nothing to keep it from wrinkling or to help it keep its shape. By finding a linen-blend, you will have a fabric that supports the linen look and feel, with minimal wrinkles. HOT TIP: Linen pants, especially white linen pants, can tend to be sheer and see through. Make sure your pants fit well, (the linen look is loose-fitting), and please do not tell us you are wearing a thong panty without telling us you are wearing a thong panty, because your pants are see through. #Pleasecheck Holly recommends sizing up when trying linen pants. Also, be careful how you clean your linen – an easy fabric to shrink! Choose your linens wisely-here are the linen pant brands Holly recommends: All on the pinterest board! Mill & Moss Posse Banana Republic Vince Free People Frank & Eileen & Other Stories A.L.C. T-SHIRTS Holly likes to classify T-shirts into these 3 categories: 1.) Solids: You do not need a T-shirt in every color. However, a crisp white T is always in style. Then you can add to your collection from there with a pop of color, or a muted neutral. Solid T-shirts are the FOUNDATION of your summer outfits. You will want to accessorize and dress it up from there. 2.) Vintage and Graphic: It is always on trend to wear any sort of vintage T-shirt, as long as it is in good condition- (think concert T-shirts, vintage brand or team shirts). This is a great option for collectors, or for those on a budget. Good condition means no rips, tears, smells, or stains. We can't believe we need to say that, but you'd be shocked. All 2nd hand and vintage tees need to be washed before wearing. 3.) College and Sport Teams: These types of casual T-shirts are a Fashion Crime - UNLESS you are attending or participating in “said” event. This is where you can wear your swag, fly your flag and sport your team socks-but at the game and the game only. It's not chic to wear college alumni shirts, sorority and fraternity letters, your high school baseball team shirt, etc. when you're not at the specified function that supports this type clothing. #thankyou T-shirt brands Holly recommends: Groceries Apparel JCrew Harvest & Mill Neococo Katla Oldschooltees Generation Cool How to wear: Accessorize your T-shirts with statement jewelry, a great handbag, a detachable collar, or just fabulous glam sunglasses. Wear under a jacket, blazer, jumpsuit, or sundress – anything sleeveless! Wearing a vintage tee with a maxi skirt is Holly's go-to look. Do not go cheap on T-shirts. There is a huge difference in fit and quality if you purchase in a ‘Box Store” vs. a higher-level brand. Be honest with yourself – if this is an item you wear constantly in your wardrobe, do yourself a favor and spend some money on quality fabric and fit. You won't regret it! T-shirts should be snug and not oversized. Make sure the fabric isn't too sheer! If we see nipplige or problem areas, the fit is too tight. #FashionOver40 FLIP FLOPS: Okay, you didn't hear it from Holly, but flip-flops are something she grew up with like the rest of us. What was once a $2 piece of rubber that you put on your feet, has now turned into items that luxury brands can sell for hundreds of dollars. Please take note that there are two kinds of flip flops: the ones that are rubber and cheap that you throw into your car when you need to get a pedicure and nice leather or designer ones that you wear in the summer. How to wear Flip Flops: We would like to explain, with your permission, the do's and don'ts of flip flops. Please do not, under any circumstances or for any reason, OR at any time or place on this planet, in this point of your life, wear flip flops with arch support. #oldladyflipflops This is a Fashion Crime: you are too fabulous at this point to walk around or stand all day in platform flip-flops. You know this, we know this, tell your friends this. Cheap, flat, rubber flip-flops are for the pool and the beach. That's it. However, you can find lovely slip-ons and other sandals that will keep you cool in the dead of summer without looking sloppy or cheap. Dressy slip-on shoes and designer flip-flps go perfectly with shorts, short skirts, sundresses and dressy white jeans. Holly Favorite Flip Flop Brands: tkees kate spade havianas rainbows gucci valentino sophia webster If you do it right, your go-to summer outfit can be as easy as flowy linen-blend pants paired with a classy T-shirt, accessories, and fabulous slip-on sandals or designer flops. Spring must be here because the pollen sure as heck is. Ugh! And, while it is getting warmer during the daytime hours, be careful, as it can still be colder at night. That means you might want to layer a few things. If you don't live in Florida, don't start dressing like it's the dead of summer - because it isn't. Did you know that dressing for spring is actually very easy? If the temperature starts to get above 50 degrees and it's sunny where you are, you have Holly's permission to start wearing your favorite spring clothing! The name of the game is lighter, layered, effortless dressing with pieces that you can mix and match without a ton of effort. This week, we have a comprehensive list of things that will benefit you to have in your wardrobe this spring. But First! A short refresher on being the best-dressed wedding guest this wedding season, because we've had a lot of emails about that again. Two things to remember: Go back and listen to Episode 84 and Episode 92. We have you covered in every single way possible, so you can be “The Best-Dressed Wedding Guest” on Parts 1 and 2. Shoes. Plan accordingly so that you can wear your shoes FOR HOURS, dance FOR HOURS, and not be hobbling in pain by 9 p.m. Wear a lower heel, break in new shoes around the house first, and NEVER, EVER, take your shoes off at a wedding. If your feet hurt that badly, Holly recommends taking 2 extra shots of booze to dull the pain rather than showing up on the dancefloor with no shoes. Girl, no. FASHION CRIME ALERT! All of the suggestions on the podcast and the correlating Pinterest Boards are still completely relevant, so always refer back to that! OK, back to the Spring Wardrobe Essentials List. (Be sure to follow along on Holly's Pinterest Board for this episode!) JEANS Timeless, seasonless, a must-have in your closet at all times! Baggy, stove-pipe leg jeans are very hot right now. This has been a trend for a while but it's also not going anywhere. Lighter washes and weights, cropped lengths, flares, and colored jeans are perfect for spring dressing. PRO TIP: Don't let anyone ever tell you that a certain jean style is out of style. If a pair of jeans fit you well, guess what? They're in style. Period. BRANDS HOLLY LOVES: Mother Denim L' Agence Rag and Bone Good American Magali Pascal from Anthropologie COLORED and TAILORED SLACKS Loose and comfortable without looking over-dressed, lightweight slacks in a variety of colors are certainly a spring essential. Dress them down with flat sandals or tennis shoes - or slip on heels to dress up! These are super versatile and a great transition option for spring weather. BRANDS HOLLY LOVES: Proenza Schouler Serigo Hudson MAXI SKIRTS There are several styles of skirts: pleated, sheer, tiered, ruffled, and so on. We love love, love, love a maxi skirt. It's the easiest thing in the world to put on. It's great for all seasons and can be paired with flip-flops at the beach, or with tall boots and sweater or jacket. Skirt lengths are a personal preference. It depends on your body type. Holly prefers an A-line skirt to hide a couple of little things. The only rule here is NOT TOO SHORT! SHORTS Shorts, much like skirts, are about the length. For women of a certain age, Hollys prefers eight- or nine-inch shorts because obviously, when you sit down, they are shorter. Holly recommends high-waisted or belted shorts worn with a heel, cute sandals, or fashion sneakers. Dressy shorts like this are very versatile for day or night: They come in a variety of fabrics and can be worn with a jacket, a super dressy blouse, and a high heel or high heel sandal. Look for them in a brocade fabric for extra dressy! Also available in leather or pleather shorts. NOT ALLOWED: Shorts that are too short or made of cheap fabric that can show VPL. (Visible Panty Lines). And make double-sure that your jeans shorts are so tight they look like spandex shorts. They should not be to the knee and tight around the leg. PRO TIP: If you're new to the Fashion Crimes Podcast and want to know more about “How to Style Shorts,” please go back and listen to Episode 83! SPRING TOPS It's so chic to move to a lightweight sweater, instead of just a regular top: Layer a lightweight sweater or duster layered over a sleeveless mock turtleneck or bodysuit. Try a pullover or cardigan because they are back on-trend with stove-pipe jeans. And even though it pains some of us to say it, you can try a sweater vest - as they are back, too! Just keep it understated and monochrome. Don't get a Grandma sweater vest. We're watching you. PRO TIP: Holly prefers sweaters that come to the top of the waist, which will help create a waistline! JACKETS The number one spring wardrobe essential is a jean jacket. They come in every variation and style: white all varieties of washes or colored denim fitted and more formal over-size and casual cropped or longer Denim jackets can be worn with anything: a dress, skirt, pants, and shorts. And it's the perfect weight for spring. Put a fun brooch on one! SPRING SHOES Plain white fashion sneakers (not workout sneakers). Go back and listen to Episode 128 on “How to Style Sneakers.” Flat mules are easy to slip on, always look elegant and still cover your toes as the weather changes. Up your sandal game with color! While neutrals are always on the essential list, spring is the perfect time to add a pop of hot pink, green, purple, and yellow for fun! SPRING BAGS Again, color! Accent any outfit with a small statement handbag or crossbody bag in an unexpected color. Fringe bags are really fun and unexpected. PRO TIP: When changing purses, make sure you have your critical things in a cardholder. Don't forget to transfer the essentials when you change your bag! No one wants to pay for your dinner because you forgot your damn credit card. #facts Ok! You are now ready to jump into spring in style. There are so many more things to list, and not enough time. This is just the beginning. These are just the MAIN essentials. We're not done here yet. Thank you so much for all your emails and DMs – and great questions and suggestions. Speaking of, we will be covering Kentucky Derby style soon based on a great DM from a fabulous listener. Will western Ukraine become Polish territory? The Polish leadership is working on various plans for the division of Ukraine, said the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin. Thus, Warsaw plans to deploy its "peacekeeping contingent" in the west of Ukraine . In addition, it is possible to create a proxy state controlled by Poland on the Eastern Kresy , which will be "under the protection" of the Polish armed forces. Rick Wiles, Doc Burkhart. 11 - 11 - 21 GETTING DRESSY FOR FANCY EVENT by Maine's Coast 93.1
Today we're talking about how to create an elevated space, whether your taste is dressy or casual. Either way, you can always create something great, as long as it's the very best version of yourself. If you're a dressy person, you're likely going to be into shiny things, such as shiny velvets, silk drapes, original paintings, or shiny marble. The casual client is typically someone with the casual T-shirt, their style is a little more spontaneous, and they're not hyper formal. Jess identifies herself as a high end casual, while Sue identifies as just a casual. The more formal homes will typically have more whites and blacks, like the checkered floors, but a casual home may have more wooden flooring and earthy colors throughout. Always look at successful things, and then try and do something that's like unto it if you can't afford to do the great stuff. So that's kind of where we live on this podcast, is to give you our very best advice, and then you take it and do with it what you will, but you always want to look successful and by successful we mean you always want it to feel like a professional helped you, whether it be casual or dressy.” 16:32https://www.instagram.com/alicelaneinteriors/https://www.instagram.com/alicelanehome/https://alicelanehome.com/https://www.facebook.com/AliceLaneHomehttps://www.pinterest.com/alicelanehome/https://www.youtube.com/alicelanehomecollectionsaltlakecityNews Letter:https://manage.kmail-lists.com/subscriptions/subscribe?a=HZENWY&g=PFcqV5
EPISODE 284 - Dressy Ghosts by Boos and Brews
Mary Michele Nidiffer, Master Style Coach and Founder StyleFinder Boutique www.ShopStyleFinder.com Book your personal/virtual style session with Mary Michele here: https://calendly.com/event_types/user/me Follow Mary Michele on Instagram @stylebymarymichele and @shopstylefinder Being fashion savvy in terms of travel doesn't have to be complicated. I want to share with you my top guidelines for packing light and dressing well. These can be game-changers not only when it comes to travel, but in how you think about your wardrobe beyond your next trip. My Best Tips: 1/ Choose a Color Capsule Select a Color Capsule of 3-4 colors including at least 2 neutrals and 1 color to pop. Don't forget to choose a metal too, for your accessories. Limit prints to just a couple for maximum versatility. Think beyond black! While black is easy, it may not be your best color. What else could you wear instead? Black/Camel/White – leopard print, pink, red, green to pop? Camel/Navy/White – stripes? Navy/Pink/White – polka dots? Turquoise/Green/Royal/White – floral? Camel/Yellow/Cream – lace? Then choose pieces that are in these colors and mix and match them. Layer them, put things together in new and unexpected ways, and see how much mileage you can get from just a few pieces. 2/ Shoes First – You could easily pack an entire suitcase of nothing but shoes, but who wants to lug them around? Shoes can often be the bulkiest items you'll pack, so efficiency is key. 3/ Build a Wardrobe Capsule – Don't Assume you need 7 outfits for 7 days. If you choose 3 outfits that can mix and match, you'll wind up having much more to wear than you thought. Packing List (starting point) Neutral Pants (2-3 pairs) Jeans that fit well Neutral Skirt (wrinkle free) Tops in bold and neutral hues (tanks, tees, etc that are wrinkle-resistant) Dressy tank Neutral Cardigan Anorak Denim Jacket or Relaxed Blazer Large Handbag that can double as Tote Clutch Chic Sneakers Sandals, Wedges 4/ Secret weapons - I call these secret weapons because they expand my wardrobe choices without taking up much space, and pack a big punch. 1. Kimonos 2. Scarves 3. Anything Reversible 5/ Go Wrinkle-Free – Ideally, everything you pack should be wrinkle- resistant and in a fabric that you can easily wash out in the sink if you need to. Many of the fabrics in StyleFinder are just that, and you can roll them up into a small bag and pull them out to look gorgeous! Who has time for ironing? In fact, with just 8 pieces you can get at least 14 different outfits and these pieces would easily fit into a carry-on. But this doesn't even take into account adding in a kimono, scarf or other pieces such as fun tops, shorts, jackets, etc. 1. Cardigan/tank 1/skirt 2. Cardigan/tank1/pants 3. Cardigan/tank 2/skirt 4. Cardigan/tank 2/pants 5. Cardigan/dress 6. Shrug/tank/skirt 7. Shrug/tank/pants 8. Shrug/dress 9. Top/Skirt 10. Top/Pants 11. Cardigan/Top/Skirt 12. Cargidan/Top/Dress 13. Tank/Dress 14. Shrug/Tank/Dress 6/ Final Edit Once you have your pieces selected, now it's time to make your final edit. Take one piece and see how many outfits you can make with it. Take pictures along the way or write down what you're pairing. This is where you'll edit like a pro, leaving out anything extra and only keeping those items you love and know you'll wear. 7/ Create Your Style File So you've made your final selections and taken your pictures. I recommend you download them and print them out. Having a Style File to refer to that's printed will make it easy to get dressed at a moment's notice and will help you feel polished and put-together, even if you're rushed. Print it out, tuck it into your suitcase and rest assured you'll look chic no matter what you're doing. **Checking your bag? Place a copy in your carry-on too, so if something happens to your luggage you have a record of all your outfits for insurance, or if you need to replace anything. Looking great while traveling can be easy when you follow these guidelines. A wardrobe capsule will assure that you have many great options with only a few pieces of clothing. Wrinkle-free fabrics will assure that you look great even after a long day on safari or sightseeing. You'll be surprised how many looks you can create using these methods, but the best surprise of all is that you can now get away with a carry-on! Bon voyage! I'd love for to leave me a 5-star review! Tell me what you loved, what you'd like to hear more of and your biggest takeaway. Many thanks, sweet friend! XO

Hershall, We had a meandering (wander-ful word) time getting to our topic today. As you know, sometimes the brethren can run things off the rails so to speak and today I didn't know if we were going to get to the topic. We plowed through importance like: my speech issues, receptacle crowding, water bottles, and I even made a HUGE confession for the world to hear! It has to do with a book report. Speaking of confession, Brad told us he read a 1,000 (yep three zeros) page book for fun. Anyway, we ended up talking about dressing up.... (you'll have to see what I'm referring to) Enjoy! * Was kannst Du dann mit diesem Wissen machen ? *Was steht Deinem Figur-Typ? ¡Quiero emprender pero no sé como! ¡Tengo miedo!, En este episodio está conmigo Patricia García, una emprendedora guatemalteca increíble, creadora de Dressy, una empresa en línea reconocida a nivel nacional, nos cuenta su recorrido, secretos, miedos y proceso de crear una empresa y reinventarse
One of the most basic but most essential pieces of your outfit and wardrobe is your socks (unless you're someone who just doesn't wear any.. which, we'll leave at that). Do you go low? Or high? Do you stick with plain, or go more custom and creative? Do you only wear certain pairs on specific occasions or in a given environment? Kev and Jack take you on a mile in their shoes - or, at least what's underneath them.
We're out at the fair! Pop up shops in Boston are a big deal. Ali stopped inside a Barney's before it closes. There are some great retail opportunities at the fair. Barrack Obama wants Aretha Franklin's hat. Millie Bobby Brown is launching a new cosmetics line. We love Thread Up. Harmony educates us on Muckbangs. Apple credit cards are rather fragile. Dressy sweatpants with heels are in.

In this episode we talk about the new app version and the issues that come with it. This update brings so many new and much anticipated quality that we really need for the health of game. However, Google enforces new app compliance with 64-bit devices. Gumi has come out with this a little earlier than anticipated, so some people are affected. Hopefully you guys can get a device or another way to play! Mini's coffee maker makes an appearance on the show. His hair attacks with a vengeance. The FFBE Global edition 3rd anniversary is here and so many rewards are coming our way! So many free summons, tons of chances at amazing rewards, and an exchange shop which holds 3rd Anniversary summon tickets which give you a chance for UoC tickets, 5* guaranteed tickets, Prism Moogles, and a bunch of other goodies. Take advantage of these tickets by logging in every day and using the 3rd anniversary coins to exchange for them in the exchange shop... and good luck! Mini and Wilm get a few nice pulls from their 3rd Anniversary Ticket summons so far. Hope you guys make it even better! Finally, Chocobo Rain comes in hot with all the elements, esper filling, and LB gauge filling. He is an amazing unit for clearing Missions. Dressy Aileen is decent, but is more difficult to use and doesn't push the meta forward. However, she is the most usable Aileen form which is a plus! "Kayaka" is an amazing unit and can be used to clear some tricky trials, scales with SPR, and chains extremely well. She can take advantage of imbuing elements on herself in order to elemental chain! This alone makes her an awesome unit. If you're pulling, good luck! Hope you guys enjoy this episode! PS. Our video file for this episode corrupted and was lost very unfortunately. I wish we could salvage it and post a YouTube video but we can't. The YouTube show will be back next week for episode 3 and will continue moving forward. Join Us in France Travel Podcast, Episode 195 On today’s episode, I chat with David Palachek about how to dress for Paris. We’ll be sharing actionable advice you can use to pack your suitcase for Paris and look great in the city of light. Some of the tricks French women use to look good are surprisingly simple. Annie asked a lot of stylish French women how they do it, and it turns out that they all follow the same basic rules! If you’re interested in dressing sharp in Paris, also listen to Paris Packing List, Episode 137. • [03:05] We’re not fashion professional, but rather regular people who care about packing the right clothes for Paris. • [04:03] You don’t have to change how you dress unless you enjoy the process of figuring out how to look best and what to pack to look stylish in Paris. • [05:33] The advice Annie will be sharing comes from stylish women in her life, not from professionals. These are opinions, not commandments! • [06:14] Take basic clothes that can travel well and can be mixed and matched, and buy accessories when you get to Paris. • [07:31] Don’t bring clothes that need to be ironed. If something needs a little help, the steam produced in the shower can help de-wrinkle to some extent. Or you could get a product such as this one that gets great review from travelers. Or get shirts like this one made for travel. • [09:35] The secret sauce that most French fashion-conscious people follow and that you can apply to yourself as well. • [10:03] Break the codes on purpose and thoughtfully. • [11:21] Mix and match formal and casual. • [13:27] Beware of blacks, various colors hide inside of blacks. • [14:13] Mix old and new. • [16:02] Own your clothes, don’t let your clothes own you. • [16:14] Pushing the boundaries with the color wheel. • [16:48] Clothes choices for people who are not afraid of color. • [17:48] Great-looking clothes choices for more conservative dressers. • [18:44] Tie dye is not a thing in France for the most part. I saw a tiny bit of it last summer, but it didn’t catch on. • [19:44] You don’t have to wear heels to go visit the Eiffel Tower or do any of the other things tourists enjoy. • [20:02] There are a lot of cobbled streets in Paris, which is one reason why heels are not be ideal. • [20:52] It’s good if you can pick tennis shoes with some texture or a hint of color. • [21:08] Classy Sunday dress goes with tennis shoes and either a perfecto leather jacket or a jean jacket. • [22:13] Casual cotton dress goes with dressy shoes or dressy accessories. • [22:42] Jeans with holes go with dressy heels, women over age 50 really shouldn’t wear holey jeans. • [23:48] Slacks with a dress shirt and tennis shoes. Dressy shorts with tennis shoes. Jean shorts with dressier shoes. Shorts and heels is trashy. • [24:13] You can either show off your legs or your boobs, but not both. • [25:08] No shirts with the arms cut off on men. • [26:10] T-shirts are OK if they are plain. No Mickey Mouse t-shirts, no bright colors, no t-shirts with jokes. Men can dress up a t-shirt with a jacket or sport coat. • [26:54] Leggings and yoga pants are not really worn besides when doing sports, but if you love them, pair them up with something dressy on top. • [27:17] Fashions change so fast for tights that you’re better off buying your tights when you get to France after you’ve seen what other people wear. • [27:47] Get a nice haircut before you come, so you feel happy with your hair. • [28:16] French women wear big necklaces. • [28:56] French women often own (and bring out!) different color purses. • [29:12] Caps for me are OK, but it depends on the cap. No sports team mascots on your hats! • [30:07] Choose caps that look different from your regular baseball cap. • [30:59] T-shirts are OK, but don’t just throw on a t-shirt just to get dressed. Jokes t-shirts are not big in France. Wear t-shirts that are more “passe-partout” (something that goes everywhere, a master key). • [32:25] Leggings and yoga pants are not pants, which doesn’t mean that you’ll never see them, but they “should” be reserved for exercising. • [33:08] If you like to wear a hat, try paper boy hats or driving caps. • [34:01] The types of sneakers that are in fashion in France now. • [35:04] Beware of Paris weather, it can be wet a lot of the year. • [36:05] French people do not all wear black all the time. • [36:53] Packing mostly neutral colors makes it easier to pack because you can rotate things around and most of them will go together. • [37:13] French people own a lot of different jackets and use them to change their look very effectively. • [38:30] Be careful how you dress or scam artists will target you all the time: David’s experience. • [40:21] How the ring scam works. • [40:36] How not to fall for the ring scam or any other scam: don’t talk to them, pretend they’re not even there and walk on! • [41:11] Shoes are the most important part of your outfit because you will walk a lot in Paris, many visitors walk 20,000 steps each day! • [42:19] If you’re like Beyonce and always wear heels even around your house because that’s most comfortable to you, then so be it! • [42:38] Break your shoes in before the trip! • [42:50] When in Paris, count on getting wet. Bring at least two pairs of walking shoes. • [43:12] Tips for people who travel light and only bring a carry-on. • [44:48] No socks with sandals. No white socks with dress shoes. Only kids get to wear colorful socks. We mostly wear black socks. • [46:27] Keep an eye out for sales men wearing a fitted suit, a colorful dress shirt, and super pointy shoes. It seems to be the unspoken “uniform” of all young sales guys in France! • [47:43] Try walking around Versailles or the Louvre in heels! • [47:57] Basketball shorts are not street attire in France, leave them at home. • [48:43] If you have a teen who is stubborn about what they’ll wear and not wear, don’t fight them too much. Kids get away with a lot, even in France. • [49:12] People in France wear all sorts of types of jeans. • [49:54] Scarves! French people wear them all the time, both men and women. Different types of scarves are good for different times of the year. • [52:12] What about t-shirts? Can I wear t-shirts in France? • [53:10] All the different types of shirts French women wear instead of t-shirts. • [54:10] Do French men wear polo shirts? Not very often. • [54:55] French people wear fitted clothes, even the fluffier French people do that. It looks better. • [55:48] Steve and David’s pre-Paris regimens. • [58:14] Bags for both men and women: it’s about good looks and safety too. • [59:35] Beware of the backpack, they are not safe. • [60:23] What bag should photographers take? They should be more judicious about what lens to carry! • [61:37] By now smart phone cameras do the job really nicely for most things. Not all, but good enough for everyone by photo nerds. • [63:21] Don’t take all your credit cards with you. Don’t take your US driver’s license with you. Only carry a photocopy of your passport with you. Leave all that stuff in the hotel safe! Be super careful with your phone when you’re in Paris also. • [65:27] There are 140,000 theft events in Paris every year. Those are incidents where a person’s purse or phone gets stolen without violence. • [66:16] What coats and jackets to take to Paris. • [67:30] Don’t try to be somebody you’re not just because you’re coming to Paris. Bring yourself and be comfortable. • [68:49] Saying “bonjour” will go a long way, but don’t smile all the time. French people don’t. • [69:16] Misconceptions: We don’t all wear black. We do wear shorts. We do wear tennis shoes. There are poorly dressed French people, you will see them when you come! Welcome to another installment of No Holds Barred, a gritty 1989 film about brutal, high-stakes street fighting. This week, we cover the fourth corporate board meeting in its first 20 minutes of runtime and a business dinner at an absurdly fancy French restaurant. Also featured are a fully clothed Joan Severance, the film debut of Raul Apartella, and the much anticipated conclusion of our NFL Playoff contest. It's a high octane thrill ride, so don't miss it. facebook.com/wgdpod
There are 5 types of clothing covered in this podcast: 1. Clothing that is too BIG (hand -me-downs) 2. Clothing that is too SMALL. 3. Clothes you don't like and would never wear 4. Dressy clothes & uniforms 5. FAVORITES! :) By categorizing your clothing in these types, you can more easily make decisions on what to keep and where to store your clothes.
