It is explicitly patriarchal even as it can empower women in positions of prestige and leadership, provided they are still “under” a man in some way. MAGA Christian nationalism creates communal identity based not so much on what Christian nationalists have in common, but on what they are against and, therefore, whom they must defeat. But while MAGA Christian nationalism offered a tempting promise, its popularity is actually the self-consuming dragon ... and this is the nature of sin, evil, and death. Evil isn't just something we read about in the news. Sometimes, we see it displayed without shame, and we're left wondering how people can be so cruel. But what is evil, where does it come from, and how do we reconcile its existence with a good and sovereign God? In this episode of Her Faith Inspires, we're examining the problem of evil through the lens of Scripture. We'll unpack the argument that God must have created evil, explore the difference between moral evil and the corruption of God's good design, and consider what evil reveals about the human heart. But understanding evil is only part of the conversation. How should Christians respond when we're confronted with hatred, cruelty, and wickedness? Does God call us to ignore it, fear it, or fight back? From the goodness of God's creation to Paul's command in Romans 12 to overcome evil with good, we're looking at what Scripture teaches us about living faithfully in a world marked by darkness. Evil is real, but it doesn't get the final word. And it doesn't get to dictate how we respond. The original Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) wasn't a huge hit at cinemas. It found its real audience on home video and cable, building into a genuine phenomenon almost after the fact.That success put New Line in an unusual position for the sequel: expectations had shifted from "will this work" to "this will work and let's make it bigger and crazier". It meant Mike Myers going from playing two roles - Austin and Dr. Evil - to playing three, with Fat Bastard being literally the biggest villain he would ever play. The Academy was so impressed with the makeup for Fat Bastard, that they would nominate the makeup team for an Oscar. Get in my belly, indeed.Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me released 11th June 1999, on a $33 million budget and went on to gross $312 million worldwide, outgrossing the entire domestic theatrical lifetime of the original within its opening weekend alone. Read the text.⁠⁠Get the free book.⁠As Paul sits in a Roman prison cell, he writes, “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound in chains as a criminal. But God's Word is not bound” (2 Tim 2:8-9). Even though he may be imprisoned, God's Word cannot be. Put all the preachers in chains, but the message of Christ remains free. Unshackled.Little did Paul know that the schemes of the Enemy would one day shift from binding the hands and feet of Christians to binding the Word—with legal fetters. Evil emperors who cast saints into dungeons would be replaced centuries later by Christians who imprison the Word behind bars of jurisprudence. And no matter the stated reason for this imprisonment of Scripture, the outcome remains the same: the Word does not run freely.The Church can no longer declare with Paul, “God's Word is not bound!” Instead, followers of Christ cower before copyright claims, subservient to man's restrictions on what God himself authored. It may be God-breathed, but men have arrogated it, threatening anyone who might want to unbind it and let it fill the earth as the waters cover the sea. Preachers call it “God's Word,” but mere humans insinuate that it is theirs with the phrase “all rights reserved.”In our modern Church, Paul might have said the opposite of what he wrote so long ago. Looking around at the Bible publishing landscape, he may have written, “Remember Jesus Christ, as I preached in my gospel, which I am free to proclaim. But God's Word is bound in chains as a criminal.”
