As we like to say around here, success leaves clues, and Dolly left a lot of them. The same logic applies to platforms: own your website, your domain, and your email list so no single network or app can take your audience away from you. Dolly held onto her publishing because she knew the long game mattered more than a quick win. Hold onto your feed the same way. This is why an RSS feed is important. You can't be cancelled, and you can easily move to a new host if needed.Don't Take Yourself Too SeriouslyLong before a critic could land a joke, Dolly had already made it herself. On plastic surgery: "If I see something sagging, bagging, or dragging, I'm going to have it nipped, tucked, or sucked." If you're just copying someone else's show format and putting your name on it, it's probably not going to land. Know why you're actually doing this.Secondly if you put your name behind it, it better be a positive reflection of you (think about this when it comes to sponsors). If you say a product is great, and your audience buys it and it's not, they won't buy anything else from you as your integrity is shot.Experiment With New Formats Without Losing Your IdentityDolly moved from country into pop in the '70s (9 to 5 and more), then made the bluegrass albums she couldn't make earlier in her career because they were "too niche" — as she put it, "I had to get rich so I could come back and sound poor" (BrainyQuote). She went into TV, movies, and near the end of her life a Broadway musical. It was based on her own story, for which she wrote much of the score (so you could say she liked to stay busy).She initially tried to withdraw her name from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame consideration, saying she hadn't "earned that right," then was inducted anyway and leaned all the way in, dueting with Judas Priest's Rob Halford at the ceremony (Rolling Stone, Fox News). She later recorded "Please Please Please" with Sabrina Carpenter — a genre-crossing pairing where each artist's fans discovered the other (Rolling Stone).Why it matters for your podcast: every new genre, format, or collaboration was still unmistakably Dolly. That's the model — try new things, but stay recognizably yourself. And notice the audience-sharing angle: pairing with an artist (or podcaster) who has an adjacent audience introduces you to people who'd never have found you otherwise. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Burmese military killed pastor and another believer The Burma Research Institute has confirmed that Rev. William, who used no last name, and another Chin Christian, Nam Ceu, were extrajudicially murdered on June 4th by the Burmese military dictatorship in Myanmar, reports International Christian Concern.  Rev. William had pastored the Chungcung Baptist Church in Chin State for more than 25 years. He was arrested with Ceu in May and had been detained by the military since then. Sources told the Burma Research Institute that Rev. William and Nam Ceu were killed for allegedly supporting the Hakha Chinland Defense Force, which is fighting against the Burmese military dictatorship. Psalm 116:15 says, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Zo Tum Hmung, President of the Burma Research Institute, said, “We call the Trump administration to protect the persecuted Christians in Burma.” Send a polite, 4-sentence note to Kyaw Moe Tun, the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations.  Address it to the Myanmar Delegation, 10 East 77th Street, New York, NY 10075. Democrat James Talarico: Muslims and Christians worship same God James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator in Texas who is running against Republican Ken Paxton, the current Texas Attorney General, falsely claimed that Muslims worship the same God as Jews and Christians. Listen. TALARICO: “Christians and Muslims and Jews all worship the same God. Muslims love Jesus. They love Moses and Abraham. We are all branches on the same tree as the Abrahamic faiths.  “So. it's heartbreaking to watch extremists, whether they are Christian nationalists or whether they're the Taliban or al-Qaeda, perverting these beautiful traditions, that have so much in common, to attack others and consolidate their own power.” There are three primary differences between Christianity and Islam. First, regarding the nature of God, Christians teach that God is the Trinity—one God existing in three co-equal, co-eternal persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19) By contrast, Islam completely rejects the Trinity. Second, Christians believe that Jesus is the divine Son of God and God incarnate who physically died on the cross for the atonement of the sins of the elect and rose from the dead. (John 1:1,14) By contrast, while Islam reveres Jesus as a major, virgin-born prophet and messenger of God, it explicitly denies His divinity, crucifixion, and resurrection. And third, Christianity teaches that salvation is a free gift of grace received through personal faith in the finished sacrificial work of Jesus Christ, rather than by human effort. (Ephesians 2:8-9) By contrast, Islam teaches that salvation depends on total submission to Allah's will, adherence to the Five Pillars of Islam, and the final judgment of one's deeds. Therefore, Muslims and Christians clearly do not worship the same God. Georgia Democrat distanced himself from antisemitic leftist Georgia Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff has offered sharp criticism of President Donald Trump which generated buzz about Ossoff potentially running for president in 2028.   That, in turn, has attracted some left-wing figures who have lauded his messaging like left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, who told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in April that he was “intrigued” by Ossoff. There are two developments of note.  First, Ossoff, whose father is Jewish, is facing criticism from some of Georgia's local Jewish community over his votes to block certain arms sales to Israel. Second, Senator Ossoff has distanced himself from Hasan Piker over recent comments that many interpreted as justifying threats to American Jews,  reports the Jewish Telegraph Agency.   Speaking on a Twitch livestream on August 20th, Piker said this. PIKER: “If Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone's going to come around and take action. Not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews.” Last Thursday, according to Fox News, an Ossoff spokesman said that the senator “unreservedly rejects reckless and dangerous rhetoric suggesting that policy advocacy invites violence against the Jewish community or any community.” In Genesis 12:3, God said, “I will make [Israel] into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on Earth will be blessed through you.” Undercover video exposes GOP Sen. Murkowski on SAVE Act And finally, liberal Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska stood on the Senate floor and painted a grim picture of the supposed damage the SAVE America Act, or the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, would do in her home state.  This is the bill that would ensure that American citizens — and only American citizens — should decide American elections. It would simply require: A valid ID before registering to vote in a federal election. Proof of citizenship. No Mail-in Ballots (except for illness, disability, military, or travel). Listen to Senator Murkowski's claim. MURKOWSKI: “What we're talking about right now is just the registration to vote. So, you're in Unalaska -- say you're a fisherman or a teacher -- the flight to Anchorage, because this is where you're going to have to go -- you're going to have to go into Anchorage: 800 air miles, $1,100 per seat, if you can maybe get on a charter.” James O'Keefe, an undercover journalist with the O'Keefe Media Group and the Justice League, flew to Unalaska to find out firsthand if Senator Murkowski's claim was true. O'KEEFE: “I'm James O'Keefe, and I'm in the middle of absolutely nowhere, about 800 miles off the coast of Alaska, on a remote island in the Aleutian Islands. “Now, Senator Lisa Murkowski says that one of the reasons she's not going to pass the SAVE Act is because of people that live here on this island of Unalaska.  “Senator Murkowski saying if the SAVE Act passes, online registration goes away, and the residents here, the few thousand people that live here, are going to have to fly 800 miles and spend thousands of dollars to go to Anchorage to take care of their business.  “But all the people we spoke with here, they all said that that's wrong, including the post office, the library, the city clerk, the DMV. We didn't know there was a DMV here. Everyone we spoke to here said they're able to register to vote here. They're able to prove citizenship by going to the library.  “So, Senator Murkowski says, ‘If you're a fisherman in Unalaska, the closest election office is 800 miles away; it would cost $1,500. You would also need a hotel, cabs, and food while in Anchorage. But the librarian just told us differently.” Here is the portion of the undercover investigation with a female undercover agent, who accompanied O'Keefe, to the library in Unalaska. UNDERCOVER FEMALE AGENT: “Just wanted to learn a little bit more about the process to get an ID. “ LIBRARIAN: “We do passports here.” UNDERCOVER AGENT: “Oh, you do passports here.” UNDERCOVER O'KEEFE: “Mmm.” UNDERCOVER FEMALE AGENT:  “That's good to know, though, that if somebody wants to confirm their citizenship, they can do it here.” UNDERCOVER O'KEEFE: “To get the Alaska ID, do you get it here or back in Anchorage?” LIBRARIAN: “Oh no, here. The DMV should be the near the police station.” UNDERCOVER O'KEEFE: “So, we don't have to go to Anchorage to get it.”  LIBRARIAN: “No, no, no. As long as you have all the paperwork you need.”  UNDERCOVER O'KEEFE: “But I read in the newspaper that the senator [Lisa Murkowski], said, ‘Oh, they're going to pass this SAVE Act, and everyone's got to go to Anchorage to get it.'” LIBRARIAN: “I don't think so.” UNDERCOVER O'KEEFE: “Oh no. Recent court documents have unveiled text messages exchanged between the two surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, during the tragic events of November 13, 2022, in Moscow, Idaho. These messages provide a harrowing glimpse into their experiences that night. At approximately 4:22 a.m., Mortensen texted Funke, expressing confusion over the lack of response from their roommates, stating, "No one is answering." Funke replied with concern, noting that Xana Kernodle had been dressed in all black that evening. Mortensen then described encountering a man wearing a ski mask inside their home, to which Funke urgently responded, advising her to "run."Despite their immediate alarm, the roommates did not contact emergency services until later that morning. Mortensen continued her attempts to reach their roommates, sending a text to Kaylee Goncalves at 10:23 a.m., asking, "Ru up??" When there was no reply, a 911 call was placed over an hour later. The transcript of this call reveals a scene of chaos and confusion, with Mortensen and Funke, along with an unidentified friend, initially reporting Kernodle as unconscious, mentioning her alcohol consumption the previous night. U.S. President Trump told Fox News' Trey Yingst on Monday that there will be a response to Iran's strikes on U.S. bases in Jordan. "We're going to hit them hard,” Trump said. U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Iran's Larak Island on Sunday, ​a U.S. official said, marking the first known American strikes on Iran since ‌late July. The strikes were an attempt to protect operations in the Strait of Hormuz after U.S. Central Command completed the clearing of sea mines from the strait's international shipping routes last week.One person is dead, and others are missing after flash flooding in the Grand Canyon, the National Park Service said on Aug. 30. The body of a 46-year-old man was found near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River, the service said late Sunday. A local medical examiner was on site. Today's Headlines: Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America — yes, really — musing that maybe he'll rename the Atlantic and Pacific next, while Canadian PM Mark Carney responded that "Ontario" is a 400-year-old Wendat word meaning "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big," which is a more dignified response than the moment deserved. Back to actual issues, Iran has been running an AI-powered disinformation operation on Instagram and Facebook, posing as average Americans to spread political misinformation about immigration and the Israel-Palestine war, with Meta taking down 35 accounts — which is a lot of effort from a country we're supposedly defeating militarily. The military situation is genuinely alarming across every front: a sailor who jumped off the USS Abraham Lincoln in what his wife describes as a suicide attempt — after his paternity leave requests were repeatedly denied while his wife gave birth — is now facing disciplinary action for "malingering" and AWOL charges for being medically evacuated. Pete Hegseth fired the Army's top general days after the general was advised to drop an investigation into how Kid Rock got a military helicopter fly by so he could wave at it on social media. Oh but there's more, Jennifer Hegseth, Pete's wife and former Fox News producer, has been attending classified intelligence meetings with foreign officials with no confirmed security clearance — she was in the Houthi PC small group chat. Five service members told MSNBC they're being asked to violate international law by targeting civilian infrastructure, and applications to leave as conscientious objectors have surged since the Iran war started. The US is also "beyond critically low" on Patriot missile interceptors in Europe — because of the Iran war — right as the CIA director had to fly to Moscow in person to tell Russia not to attack NATO. A Navy engineer's rape lawsuit against the ship captain who allegedly entered her room with a master access key was dismissed by a judge who said it should be treated as a workplace compensation claim. To add to the overall craziness, ICE arrested 49,000 people in July alone, with less than 4% having any prior violent conviction. And finally, Fauci's prosecution is apparently going nowhere, which is the best news of the day. Tyler Robinson's defense team is asking Judge Tony Graf to block electronic media coverage of the September 1 hearing, arguing that allowing cameras and livestreaming would create an unnecessary risk to Robinson's right to a fair trial. The lawyers contend that the proceeding will center heavily on evidence presented during the preliminary hearing, much of which came into the record as hearsay under Utah's comparatively permissive probable-cause standard and might never be admissible before a trial jury. Broadcasting attorneys discussing that material, they argue, would effectively preserve and distribute potentially inadmissible accusations to a massive audience long before jury selection begins. The defense also says the extraordinary publicity surrounding the case has already demonstrated how quickly courtroom material can spread online and shape public perceptions, pointing to what it characterizes as real-time evidence of developing bias. Robinson's attorneys maintain that cameras add pressure and distraction for lawyers, witnesses and other courtroom participants, arguing that proceedings should remain focused on evidence and legal argument rather than presentation for a national audience. In one of the filing's sharpest lines, the defense declares that Robinson's prosecution “is not and should not be made into a reality TV show.”The filing also builds on the defense's broader argument that extensive media exposure is making it increasingly difficult to preserve an impartial jury pool in a case that has attracted enormous national attention. Robinson's attorneys say witnesses whose statements were admitted as reliable hearsay during the preliminary-hearing process have already faced harassment from media organizations and interested third parties, which they offer as another example of the consequences of unrestricted exposure. Their concern is particularly acute because the September 1 proceeding is not a trial but an oral argument over whether prosecutors have established enough probable cause to bind Robinson over for trial, meaning the public could hear extensive discussion of evidence without the protections and evidentiary restrictions that would apply before a jury. The defense therefore asks Graf to treat the proceeding as a judicial hearing rather than a media event and to prohibit cameras from broadcasting arguments that could become part of the permanent public narrative even if portions of the underlying evidence are later excluded. Monday's interview with Fox News' Jesse Watters simply got too personal. They were talking about transgender surgery, and it became intense. Watters kept pressing, saying, “So you think it's OK for a parent to slash his kid's ding-a-ling off?” El-Sayed responded: “Are you circumcised?” Watters said, “Yeah, but that's a personal question, Doctor!” El-Sayed was trying to make the point that a lot of personal medical decisions are made between families and doctors. Fox News took things to another level last week in the network's attempts to avoid talking about Trump's disastrous war in the Middle East, high gas prices, a sluggish economy and the president's obsession with his gilded building projects.The network spent over 1/3 of its airtime on the shows I covered last week trashing Democrats mostly Abdul El-Sayed and Angie Nixon.Nixon is a talented and charismatic Florida state rep who easily won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. She is unapologetically loud and known for sharing her opinions on the House floor with a pink bullhorn.She is also the exact type of politician Fox News loves to target and demonize - a powerful and intelligent Black woman.Other major stories last week included a trial involving a mother with postpartum psychosis, a student led cocaine ring at Penn State, a brawl at a Major League Baseball game and the never-ending scandal involving a comment made by a WNBA player about transgender athletes.Fox News also continued to try to change public sentiment surrounding enormous data centers and the use of AI.Meanwhile gas prices remained elevated while Trump's approval numbers plummeted. At a recent motions hearing for Bryan Kohberger, the suspect in the University of Idaho student murders, both sides clashed over critical pieces of evidence and the defense's attempts to challenge the prosecution's case. The judge denied several of the defense's motions, including a bid to dismiss the indictment due to grand jury irregularities. Kohberger's team had argued that the grand jury was misled by an unreliable FBI genetic genealogy analysis and that it violated proper legal standards, but the court found the indictment sufficient to move forward. The defense also tried to suppress certain pieces of evidence, such as cell tower data and body cam footage, claiming they were improperly obtained or prejudicial—efforts that mostly failed.However, not everything went the prosecution's way. The judge did grant the defense more time to scrutinize some of the state's key evidence, particularly DNA and cellphone data that tie Kohberger to the crime scene. These materials were initially withheld or delayed, and the court acknowledged the defense's right to fully analyze them. The ruling opens the door for further challenges to the state's forensic evidence in the future.
