What is unique about Famille Perrin in France's approach to running their family wine business? How do traditional wine families differentiate their brands and market their wines in a crowded marketplace? How has the Gaja family of Italy made significant contributions to winemaking and the Piemonte community? What is unique about Famille Perrin in France's approach to running their family wine business? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Fiona Morrison. Good luck! Highlights How did the Frescobaldi family make a massive impact on the arts in their transition from banking to wine? What were the Frescobaldi family's connections to famous figures like Dante Alighieri and Galileo? How has Angelo Gaja and the Gaja family made significant contributions to winemaking and the Piemonte community? Why is the Liger-Belair family's vineyard often known as the greatest in the world? What is unique about the Famille Perrin's approach to running their family wine business? How has Álvaro Palacios proven Garnacha's place as the climate change grape? How do traditional wine families differentiate their brands and market their wines in a crowded marketplace? Do these families view their wines as luxury goods? Key Takeaways How do traditional wine families differentiate their brands and market their wines in a crowded marketplace? Simplicity and being true to their roots are two key factors Fiona points out. The labels have become much cleaner and are much more sober these days than they were in the past. The Torres family of Spain have done huge amounts on climate change and carbon neutrality and regeneration. In fact, they are, once again, this year, the most admired wine brand. I think it's very important to show that you're paying your dues and you're doing research. It shows how much they are rooted in their heritage and their history. How has the Gaja family of Italy made significant contributions to winemaking and the Piemonte community? If you want to go and taste a Gaja, you need to make a contribution of 300 euros to their various charities they support. Piemonte is still quite a poor region, and so they want to give back to the community and to the area what they can. Of course, people who drink Gaya wines, which are very expensive, can afford to give a charity donation. It's quite unusual, but I think it's a good solution for them. What is unique about Famille Perrin in France's approach to running their family wine business? There are seven or eight children from the two brothers, Francois and Jean Pierre. Every single one of them has a job in the winery, with each handling a different aspect of the business. This solidarity between so many children, working together, laughing together, tasting together. This is a blueprint for how to run a family business. Donald Macleod surveys the life of Girolamo Frescobaldi and the musical spectacle of Rome Girolamo Frescobaldi established the keyboard style that would dominate Europe in the Baroque era. His life throws a light on the nepotism and patronage at the heart of Italy in the 17th century, and how it created extraordinary music and spectacle.... breaking the bank in the process. Donald Macleod and his guest Robert Quinney, Director of the Choir of New College, Oxford, explore Frescobaldi's story alongside some of the other great musicians of his time, who fell into his orbit.
Welcome to episode 1366, another episode of “On The Road Edition”, hosted by Stevie Kim. In this episode Stevie is at Villa Cavendri in Verona and she is talking with Vittorio Frescobaldi More about today's guest: Vittorio Frescobaldi is the Junior Export Manager - Benelux, Denmark, Italy at Crus et Domaines de France. He comes from a very famous Italian wine family, and he has a great interest in French strains, which is what he speaks about in his interview with Stevie! More about Frescobaldi: The name Frescobaldi has a tradition in the world of wine that dates back over 700 years and has since involved 30 generations. In the 60s of the last century, Vittorio Frescobaldi (Sr.), owner of the family properties together with his brothers Dino, Maria, Ferdinando and Leonardo, gave this tradition a modern organization by creating a winery with headquarters in Florence, nine properties in Tuscany and one in Friuli. It consists of over 890 hectares of vineyards, planted in very different soil and climatic conditions, from which 7 million high quality bottles are obtained every year. Difficult to make customers, admirers and journalists perceive such a varied reality. The Frescobaldi's succeeded by exhibiting the characteristic elements of their most important estates in a hall, and offering visitors a virtual journey through their biodiversity, using all five senses: smell and taste, in the first place, tasting the most significant wine, paired with gastronomic specialties of the area, and identifying one by one the perfumes in the essences that the oenologist of the estate made available. It was a game in which sight, touch and even hearing were also involved, with specially chosen pieces of music being listened to. An original way to get to know the ancient Frescobaldi properties, the Pomino Castle, the Castiglioni estate, the Nipozzano Castle, but also the more recent ones, Castelgiocondo, Montalcino, Santa Maria, in the Grosseto Maremma, Luce della Vite, born as a joint- venture with the Mondavi of Napa Valley and then fully acquired, and finally the Attems estate in the Gorizia Collio. Montesodi and Mormoreto come from the crus of Nipozzano, and Lamaione from those of Castelgiocondo: the SuperTuscans that have given the most satisfaction to the Frescobaldis. Today, the family winemaker, Lamberto Frescobaldi, takes care of its production and with him three other representatives of the latest generation already work in the company: Tiziana and Diana Frescobaldi and Stefano Benini. Why can't you just read the score that you want to perform?Dedicated to the Italian genius composer Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643), this episode is an introduction to early music performance and textual sources. Francesco Corti, harpsichordist and conductor, explains the principles of musical improvisation and, above all, how composers told their contemporaries how to play their music. We will then go on to discover the cultural and musical revolution that was the 'Seconda Prattica', a revival to which Frescobaldi contributed greatly. To go further >CREDITSguest Francesco Corti, harpsicordist and conductorinterview & editing Andrew Burnproduction REMAcredits music Platée, Act 1, Orage - Jean-Philippe Rameauperformed by Les Talens Lyriques, dir. Chianti Rufina is not as well known as Chianti Classico, but it certainly deserves to be. Sarah Kemp talks to Lorenzo Portaro, winemaker at Castello Nipozzano, which is owned by the Frescobaldi family and is the largest producer in Chianti Rufina. He talks about the illustrious history of the region, how the style of wine differs from Chianti Classico, and its incredible ability to age. He discusses Chianti Rufina's new initiative “Terraelectae”, a name for wines made from single crus which are made from 100% Sangiovese and are aged for at least 30 months before release. Listen in to hear him discuss the future of this Tuscan jewel.Find out more at: wine-conversation.com

Welcome to Episode 844, How to sell fine wine in the US through multi-channel marketing, Dave Parker and Michelle Erland IWA Welcome to Wine2Wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide. About today's session: Even before the pandemic, trends in alcohol sales were pushing towards deregulating the three-tier system. While the three tier-system offers many benefits to society, including economic, commercial, and safety measures, a healthy distribution system should never impede any winery from entering the US Market. A Multi-Channel marketing system keeps the distribution system in check preventing barriers to competition. Dave Parker, CEO of Benchmark Wine Group and President of the National Association of Wine Retailers, will discuss all the opportunities for multi-channel selling to allow any wine brand to legally enter the US market and the channels of which exist to do so. About the Speaker: Formerly Dake Parker was a Silicon Valley engineer, he began his professional wine career as the Owner of Parker Family Vineyards, a vineyard in the Alexander Valley. With a unique blend of talents, plus wine and high-tech industry contacts, he has successfully bridged the gap between high-quality wine producers and well-informed fine wine collectors and connoisseurs globally. In 1998, Dave founded Brentwood Wine Company, the first weekly online auction house for fine wine. In 2002, Benchmark Wine Group was established as a retailer, importer, and distributor specializing in hard-to-find, collectible rare wines. Now he is CEO of First Growth Technologies, including CellarPros, a service company focused on the needs of the serious wine collector and fine wine professional To find out more: Website: https://www.benchmarkwine.com/ About the Moderator: Michelle Erland is a New York-based Sommelier and a Senior Account Executive with Colangelo & Partners Public Relations, an integrated communications agency that specializes in fine wine, spirits, and food. --------------- Ficha Técnica: Texto: Maria Dalessandro, cp Voz: César Costa, cp Músicas: - Spiritual Choir Ident - by Dreamnote Musica Music composed and recorded by Dan Musselman Imagem: Beatriz La-Salette Moreira Edição: Paulo La-Salette
Eight notes over and over again. Beautiful and familiar that you often hear in movies and in real life at weddings, when the bridesmaids are walking down the aisle. Floating-on-clouds music! Let's give this a try as a new song to learn before the ball drops on New Year's Eve in Time Square in NYC 2022. Who is Pachelbel? Johann Pachelbel, (baptized September 1, 1653, Nürnberg [Germany]—died March 3, 1706, Nürnberg), German comser known for his works for organ and one of the great organ masters of the generation before Johann Sebastian Bach. Johann Pachelbel is unfairly viewed as a one-work composer, that work being the popular, Canon in D major, for three violins and continuo. He was an important figure from the Baroque period who is now seen as central in the development of both keyboard music and Protestant church music. Some have summarized his primary contribution as the uniting of Catholic Gregorian chant elements with the Northern German organ style, a style that reflected the influence of the Protestant chorale. A Lutheran, he spent several years in Vienna, where he was exposed to music by Froberger and Frescobaldi, which influenced his work with the chorale-prelude. His music in this genre would, in turn, influence the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach, among others. It should be noted that many of Pachelbel's works are difficult to date, thus rendering judgments about his stylistic evolution questionable in many cases. Pachelbel was also a gifted organist and harpsichordist. Artist Biography by Robert Cummings.

He studied Economics at the University of Florence and entered the wine business in Italy in the early 1970s, eventually becoming CEO of Rémy Cointreau's Italian company. After 12 years as CEO of Antinori, he took on the challenge of reorganizing the worldwide distribution for the Remy Cointreau Group. At the same time, he started consulting for Frescobaldi on their joint venture project called “Luce della Vite,” with the Robert Mondavi Corporation. In 1996, Giovanni became CEO of Frescobaldi and in 1999 became CEO of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, which produces Ornellaia and Masseto. About Ornellaia ORNELLAIA is synonymous with Tuscany. The estate encompasses 115 hectares under vine along the Tuscan coastline. Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Superiore is the estate's top wine, followed by Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia and Le Volte dell'Ornellaia, and the whites Ornellaia Bianco and Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia. In little over thirty years (the first vintage of Ornellaia was in 1985). The wines here are famous and coveted all over the world. About Masseto Masseto, since 1986 is one wine, from one vineyard, and one estate. The potential of the acclivity where the Masseto vineyard stands along the Tuscan coast was glimpsed at the beginning of the Eighties. The blue clay, refreshing coastal breezes and the superlative refraction of the light guaranteed by the Mediterranean Sea all contribute to the intriguing blend of power, elegance and complexity that distinguishes the wine from the estate. Since the 2017 vintage, Masseto has been accompanied by the second wine Massetino. Both begin their journey on the Masseto hillslope in 11 hectares densely planted under vine and progress from prized grapes to coveted bottles of wine that refine in the estate's cellar, designed by architectural firm Zito Mori, which was inaugurated in April 2019. This marks the point of departure for both wines around the world, every autumn, through Place de Bordeaux.

INTERVIEW AND TASTINGInternational wine critic and Masterclass.com Instructor James Suckling recently released his Napa and Sonoma report focusing on the 2018 vintage. As part of his research, he spoke to two big-name wineries together to find out more about their "secret" project they have been working on together. DVO is a new joint venture between Napa winery Dalla Valle and Tuscan winery Ornellaia, and their first wine will be released in 2021. Tuscany's Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is a jewel of the Frescobaldi family estates, making wines that are not only among the best of Italy, but also some of the most collectible and sought after in the world. In turn, Dalla Valle Vineyards is one of Napa Valley's most admired family-run wineries. These two 'first growths' of Tuscany and Napa Valley are now combining their skills to create a new wine, that James described as "a beautiful first release, refined and with a beautiful sensibility". In this exclusive podcast, you can hear James speak to Axel Heinz, winemaker at Ornellaia, and Naoko Dalla Valle and Maya Dalla Valle, founder and director respectively (and mother and daughter) at Dalla Valle. Listen in to hear how this collaboration came about and to hear details of this first wine (tasting note below) and of the 2018 vintage. INTERVIEW AND TASTINGOn June 26, 2020, international wine critic and Masterclass.com Instructor had a conversation and tasting with Lamberto Frescobaldi, head of the Marchesi Frescobaldi group. They tasted a selection of wines from the 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages. Starting with the Leonia Brut 2016, which James described as a “beautiful dry sparkling wine with very fine beads”, Lamberto went on to explain how the estate created this to be a “full meal wine” – one you can drink with your main course, just like any other wine. They also tasted the Nipozzano Riserva 2017, which surprised James with its freshness despite coming from a very hot year. And also the Frescobaldi Tenuta Perano Rialzi Gran Selezione 2016, only the second vintage from this wine but which Lamberto described as really showing its identity. They tasted many other wines too including the Luce 2017, the Castello Pomino Bianco Benefizio Riserva 2018, the Frescobaldi Tenuta Di Castiglioni Giramo 2017, and more. You can listen to the tasting session above.
Escuchar audio

Italian Wine Podcast Episode 299: Michelle Erland gets a crash course in agriculture from Lamberto Frescobaldi at his Florence estate. #iobevoacasa - LOCKDOWN SERIES.
Esteemed guest Lamberto Frescobaldi returns to the Italian Wine Podcast to further discuss Frescobaldi wines and associated social projects. Since 2012 Lamberto has been involved with a small vineyard on Gorgona Island, home to a prison, just off the coast of Tuscany. Here, select residents practice the cultivation of wine grapes, learn work ethic and skills, and earn money to ease their transition back into society. According to Lamberto, those that find success in the program develop a sense of self-worth and do not commit new offenses once free. Host Monty Waldin tries to imagine how one could commit a crime in a moment of blindness and live with the consequences for years afterward. Listen in to find out why Frescobaldi doesn’t seek reviews from wine critics and why the social side of the company isn’t a simple publicity stunt but an earnest investment in community and high-quality wine. We even manage to touch on grape varieties, wine composition, and organoleptic qualities.

The Frescobaldi family history in Tuscany dates back over 1000 years and is closely tied to the wine, food and culture of the region. In addition to its storied wine estates, the family makes exquisite Tuscan olive oil called Laudemio Frescobaldi, a deeply fragrant extra-virgin olive oil with spicy notes, packaged like a fine perfume. Bona Frescobaldi, the family's global ambassador and culture preservationist, discusses terroir, harvesting and heritage of Tuscan olive oil. www.laudemio.it This show is brought to you by Talk 4 Radio (http://www.talk4radio.com/) on the Talk 4 Media Network (http://www.talk4media.com/).
This question was sent by Michael, and he writes: Hi Vidas and Ausra, Thank you again very much for liking and reposting music! I cannot thank you enough, and I am extremely honored by your likes and reposts! I have given some thought to blogging—particularly since my studies focus on early music (particularly English composers like Byrd, Gibbons, Tallis, etc.). I've always loved early music, so it was not difficult for me to decide on what part of the repertoire I wanted to focus. I have given some consideration recently to creating a website for my work in general (compositions, studies, recordings), and I have also given some thought to recording an album of my clavichord music. I am still researching into how I can do all these things. I know there are some free domain sites, but I am not sure about PayPal so people can purchase my scores or recordings, or how to add a feature that allows people to peruse my scores before purchasing them, etc. I am hoping to do all these things before university resumes in late August. At the end of this month, I have a harpsichord recital, so I am focusing all my energies on that, at this time. On the recital will be pieces by William Byrd, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Ercole Pasquini, Domenico Scarlatti (the "Cat Fugue"), Domenico Zipoli, and several of my compositions. I will be performing on three instruments, all tuned to a temperament appropriate for the time in which those works were performed (meantone tunings for Byrd, Frescobaldi, and Pasquini; well-temperament for Scarlatti and Zipoli, etc.). The semester will conclude the week after the recital. After resting for a few days, I will try to begin the process of creating a website/blog. Thank you again for your message and suggestions, and thank you again very much for liking and reposting my music! I greatly appreciate it! Most sincerely, Michael

In medieval times the term Laudemio indicated the best part of the harvest reserved for the feudal lord. This year the Frescobaldi family of Tuscany is celebrating the 30th anniversary harvest of its Laudemio Frescobaldi extra virgin olive oil with a special gold bottle. Matteo Fescobaldi, the 30th generation of the wine and olive oil family joins Linda to share the story behind Laudemio, now a consortium of 21 producers. A Taste of the Past is powered by Simplecast

This question was sent by Ana Marija and she writes: Hello! I am going to play a recital with my violinist friend on historical short octave organ (with no pedals, 8 stops). But we have some trouble finding repertoire, that is suitable for this organ. For the solo organ part, I will be playing some music by Byrd, Tomkins, Sweelinck, Frescobaldi and Froberger...do you have any other idea? But mainly, we have a hard time finding pieces for violin and short octave organ...we would really appreciate if you could help us with any suggestion!:) Thank you for your wonderful work and help:) Ana Marija

In this podcast, Monty Waldin interviews Lamberto Frescobaldi, whose family wine-making tradition in the Frescobaldi Wineries dates back to the fourteenth century. “All Number one wines in the world are able to capture the spirit of the soil, of the place, of the people and put them in a glass” explains Lamberto. He talks to Monty about his childhood growing up in the Nipozzano estate in contact with nature and about his recent project of setting up a vineyard on the prison island of Gorgona. On the island, prisoners work with enologists and agronomists of the Frescobaldi estates to produce wine and to learn new skills, with the aim of facilitating their reintegration into society at the end of their detention. Tune in to Italian Wine Podcast with Monty Waldin to meet the Italian Wine People!
In this episode John is joined by Lamberto Frescobaldi at Eataly in Chicago, to taste and discuss some interesting wines, one of which is an important social experiment and a fabulous wine.
The LilyPond utility is a text based music typesetting tool that generates professional quality music scores - and exports those scores as playable midi files. Frescobaldi is a GUI LilyPond Music Editor that manages this process for you in parallel open windows. What this has to do with voice over is that it's an excellent way to write your own jingles or music beds for your voice work products. The opening sounder for this podcast is something I wrote originally in LilyPond, then exported it to midi and eventually to a sound file that is then imported into Audacity. You'll likely find Frescobaldi a useful addition to your audio toolbox.
Welcome to Secrets of Organ Playing Podcast #66! http://www.organduo.lt/podcast Today's guest is organist and harpsichordist Gavin Black who is the Director of the Princeton Early Keyboard Center. Gavin is best known for his recordings of seventeenth-century keyboard music on the PGM label. He studied organ and harpsichord with Paul Jordan and Eugene Roan, and conducting with Jahja Ling and Otto-Werner Mueller, and attended Princeton University and Westminster Choir College. He served as Associate University Organist at Princeton from 1977 to1979, while a student there, and was Organist and Senior Choir Director at Hillsborough Reformed Church, Millstone, New Jersey, from 1988 until 1994. He has been a teacher of organ, harpsichord, clavichord and continuo-playing since 1979, teaching from time to time at Westminster Choir College and at the Westminster Conservatory of Music. He currently writes a monthly column on organ and harpsichord teaching for The Diapason. As a performer, Gavin Black has focused on 17th-century keyboard music, especially music of Dutch, German, or Italian origin, and on the organ music of Bach, which he has performed in its entirety. In the year 2002 he performed Bach's Art of the Fugue on the new organ at the Princeton Theological Seminary, and elsewhere. His recording of harpsichord music of Sweelinck, played on a Philip Tyre copy of a Ruckers transposing double , was released in 2006 by Centaur Records (interesting online review here) and his recording of music of Frescobaldi played on a 17th century Italian harpsichord will also be released by Centaur. Gavin Black has also specialized in the music of the 20th-century American composer Moondog, recording a selection of his harpsichord music for the Musical Heritage Society in 1978. He has made a specialty of Bach's Art of the Fugue, and has recently recorded that work in a version for two harpsichords, with George Hazelrigg (see The Art of the Fugue.com) Gavin Black has also been a founding member of several chamber ensembles, including the Princeton Baroque Ensemble, Whitechapel Baroque, and Channel Crossings. He is currently the continuo player for the ensemble Col Legno. In this conversation Gavin shares his insights about teaching so if you're a teacher or a student of harpsichord or organ, I hope you will find this conversation inspiring. It's a rather long episode but we didn't want to split it into two parts because listening to it all (maybe not in one sitting) will be worth it. Enjoy and share your comments below. Successful sibling duos in music are rare. The stress of rehearsing and being constantly on the road together can derail the happiest collaboration. The best-known sibling partnership in musical history – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his sister Nannerl – didn't last long. He went off to Paris, Vienna and Prague; Nannerl settled down into marriage. The Swiss cellists Thomas and Patrick Demenga appear to take their collaboration with a more easy-going attitude. Some 35 years since graduating from Juilliard and the Bern Conservatory, respectively, they are still going strong, and performed together in December at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. "We can go on stage and close our eyes and start without even looking at each other," Patrick Demenga told host Jeff Spurgeon. "We are so close in a way musically that we trust – it's one of the most exciting experiences that you can have on stage." The two cellists, who also have active solo careers, came to the WQXR Café to perform as both a duo and as a trio with the Slovenian accordionist Luka Juhart. Their program combined the music of Bach with two modern works. First up was a transcription of Bach's Sonata in G minor for Gamba and Harpsichord (first movement), with Juhart playing the harpsichord part. "Normally if you play with harpsichord and continuo," said Thomas Demenga, "you have a very thin sound and you have to be very careful as a cellist not to overpower the harpsichord. In this combination with accordion you have a really full range because he can sustain the lines so you have the full polyphony." Juhart met the Demenga brothers through a composer friend, which led to some festival dates in Europe. At an appearance in Austria last year, David Finckel, the artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, heard the trio and booked them on his series. Although the accordion is a relative outsider in U.S. chamber music circles, Juhart estimates that there are 30 or 40 college-level training programs in Europe where one can major in the instrument (he teaches at the academy in Ljubljana, Slovenia). Below, Juhart performs Vinko Globokar’s theatrical solo piece, Dialog über Luft. While Juhart has sought to explore the outer boundaries of the modernist accordion sound, he has also taken up Baroque works by Rameau, Handel, Scarlatti and Frescobaldi. The Demenga brothers, meanwhile, have been equally versatile, as seen in the last work on their program, an excerpt from Thomas Demenga's Solo per due, which features all manner of bowed and plucked techniques. "It's a bit jazzy but not really because I don't like classical musicians who try to play jazz," said Thomas Demenga. He notes that one of his classmates and friends at Juilliard was the violinist Nigel Kennedy, known for a freewheeling forays into popular styles. "We played on the streets [of New York] to make money," Demenga recalls. The two musicians also played frisbee in the halls of Juilliard. "People hated us," he said with a laugh.
