Just have a self-awareness.In today's episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Enid Futterman and John Isaacs, the co-founders of IMBY, a revolutionary platform for hyperlocal journalism. IMBY, which stands for "In My Back Yard," empowers communities to create their own digital newspapers, promoting citizen journalism and community engagement.Enid explained, “IMBY is a hyperlocal network of websites for citizen journalism. It allows any community to create its own digital newspaper.” This model not only fills the gap left by the decline of traditional local newspapers but also provides a space for community members to share news, opinions, and events directly relevant to their locality.John elaborated on the origins of IMBY, sharing how their initial success with a local community magazine in Hudson, New York, inspired them to create a scalable platform. “The demise of local journalism is not just an absence of information but also a threat to democracy. Local news plays an enormously important role and its diminishment is a serious issue for the preservation of democracy,” John emphasized. This sentiment underscores the critical role IMBY aims to play in sustaining informed and connected communities. One of the most compelling aspects of IMBY is its support for citizen activists. Enid highlighted, “One of the biggest uses is among citizen activists who are trying to advocate for a cause, often aligned with our mission to build community with the values of localism, sustainability, and justice.”Currently, IMBY is running a crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit to expand its reach. Enid noted, “Honeycomb's focus on crowdsourcing local capital aligns perfectly with our mission to crowdsource local news.”IMBY's innovative approach not only addresses the loss of local newspapers but also reinvigorates the essence of community journalism. Their platform represents a beacon of hope for communities striving to stay informed and engaged in an era of media consolidation and declining local news sources.Through platforms like IMBY, the power of the press is truly placed back in the hands of the people, fostering a more democratic and connected society.AI Episode Summary1. Devin introduces IMBY, a platform for hyperlocal journalism developed by Enid Futterman and John Isaacs.2. Enid describes IMBY as a network of websites for citizen journalism, allowing communities to create their own digital newspapers.3. John shares the history and motivation behind IMBY, stemming from their experience with a local quarterly magazine in Columbia County, New York.4. IMBY aims to address the decline of local newspapers by empowering citizens to become content creators, thereby preserving local journalism.5. Enid emphasizes that anyone can post various types of content on IMBY, including news stories, opinion pieces, and event announcements, fortifying community advocacy.6. John highlights that the decline in local journalism affects democracy, making platforms like IMBY crucial for maintaining local dialogues and informed communities.7. Devin speaks about the cultural shift towards conglomerates owning local papers and how IMBY counters this by providing a decentralized model for local journalism.8. Enid explains that IMBY is currently funded through local advertising and is exploring additional revenue streams such as subscriptions and merchandising.9. John and Enid discuss their successful crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit, which aligns with IMBY's focus on crowdsourcing local news.10. The show ends with Enid and John discussing their "superpowers" of love and self-awareness, emphasizing the importance of passion and self-reflection in achieving personal and professional fulfillment. How to Develop Love As a SuperpowerSummary: Enid's superpower is her profound love for what she does. Stay True to Yourself: Avoid being driven by external pressures; focus on what genuinely matters to you.4. Online Reputation Management & The Power of Positive Patient Sentiment is one of our most downloaded episodes. In case you missed it, we are running it once more. You have no control over what patients say about your medical practice online, but the influence of ratings and reviews is simply too powerful to ignore. With the overwhelming majority of patients using online reviews to choose one practice over another, online reputation is not something you can afford to be passive about. Instilling healthcare consumer confidence is perhaps the most significant way online ratings and reviews impact medical care – patients want to know they will be in good hands and the comfort of knowing what to expect on their care journey. Patient feedback lets a practice know what they are doing well and where they need to improve with patient care. In this episode of the Medical Advantage podcast, Bill Riley, Vice President of Marketing, and Rebekah Duke, Senior Copywriter (both of Medical Advantage) sit down to talk about how to harness the power of positive patient sentiment. This program unveils the true power of online ratings and reviews management and what you can do to proactively manage your online reputation. Kyle Thiermann first made headlines as a teenager when he released a YouTube video detailing how Bank of America was one of the largest financiers of dirty energy worldwide. This video garnered international media attention, landed him on the stage at TEDx, and caused people to move significant sums of money out of B of A and into local banks around the country.Through his 20s, Thiermann worked at Discovery Digital Networks as a writer and on-camera host. His work has appeared in Men's Health Magazine, SURFER Magazine, and Outside Magazine.A few years ago, Kyle and I came up with an idea for making environmental activism fun (and funny), and thus was born The Motherfucker Awards, a red-carpet event where the worst polluters were recognized for their outstanding contributions to fucking Mother Nature.Thiermann also worked as Head of Editorial and Senior Copywriter at MUDWTR, a brand known for its irreverent marketing and distinct tone. While there, he launched Trends w/ Benefits, a storytelling platform that focused on psychedelics and mental health. As a Patagonia-sponsored surfer he continues to use his travel opportunities to cover environmental issues around the world, interviewing all sorts of folks on his podcast The Kyle Thiermann Show.Join his Substack newsletter here:Here's a link to the story Kyle tells about Derek Sivers riding his bike with just a little less effort, and a lot more enjoyment. This will give you some sense of my own haircut debacle:The vid, if you wanna see Kyle's haircut: This is a public episode. In order to remain competitive in the overloaded digital landscape businesses seek to modernize and scale. Veronica Chizh, Senior Copywriter and Digital Marketer discusses Symfa's specialization in custom software development and product development, specifically for insurtech, fintech, and healthcare industries. Veronica emphasizes three major channels through which Symfa acquires clients, each playing a vital role in their client acquisition strategy. The first channel is LinkedIn, where face-to-face communication takes precedence in building relationships and generating high-quality leads. Symfa has dedicated a specialized lead generation unit to engage in meaningful interactions on the platform, facilitating direct communication with potential clients. The second channel is their website, which serves as a conventional yet essential tool for attracting and engaging prospects. Aware of the intense competition for online attention, Symfa recognizes the need to create compelling content to captivate visitors and distinguish themselves from other companies. Lastly, Veronica highlights the significance of references as a lead generation channel. Satisfied clients who refer Symfa to their business associates and friends become invaluable ambassadors, endorsing the company's expertise and fostering trust among potential clients. In today's episode, I am joined by the wonderful Anna Iveson. Now… unlike the other guests I've had on the podcast, Anna doesn't run her own business. Instead, her brilliance has taken her into the world of Grant Cardone Enterprises, where she works as his Senior Copywriter (and if you haven't already heard of him, let's just say he's got a pretty big online brand)! No matter what's happening in the world, if you can create epic content online, you'll always be generating demand for your offers. Especially when that copy is going into cold traffic funnels. That's why I'm SO excited to have Anna joining me today, as she's not only the bee's knees when it comes to copywriting in general… BUT she's specifically awesome at *cold traffic funnel* copywriting for coaches, consultants and course creators… aka YOU! In fact, a couple of years ago Anna was helping me create some copy for my business, which I'm pretty confident we're still using today (that feels pretty darn cool, even if I do say so myself lol!). So, if you're ready to learn what successful copywriting consists of for a 7-8+ Figure Business and to get the inside scoop on what working within the realms of Cardone Land is like, you're definitely going to want to hit that play button, my friend! What you'll learn: How Anna went from the corporate world of investment banking to falling down the Alice in Wonderland online world rabbit hole Why Anna pivoted from the *launch model* copywriting to cold traffic copywriting and the rewards she's reaped from doing so What a cold traffic funnel is and HOW to pick the type of funnel that best serves you and your business The lowdown on what you should include in your funnel if you're selling a high ticket group coaching program (we're talking PLF Funnels, survey funnels, lead magnet funnels… the whole shebang!) Why including a cold traffic funnel within your business is a *MUST* - especially if you're looking to maximise your output, whilst minimising your input and not completely burning yourself out The breakdown of how Anna, a mother of three from Harrogate ended up ghostwriting for Grant Cardone and what working for this insanely successful man is really like The key things that have shaped Anna into the EPIC copywriter that she is today (we're talking actionable steps that you can immediately start doing to level up your own copywriting skills) Why tinkering with your Facebook Ads is the LAST thing you want to do if you're not getting the results you want from your cold traffic funnel, and what you should be adjusting instead The best place to start when it comes to copywriting if you're currently feeling stuck or you just downright hate it - lol Anna's view on the future of copy with AI in mind and how this could impact the copywriting world as we know it This episode is quite literally bursting at the seams with value bomb after value bomb. Fra questi spicca The Architecture of Persuasion. Sometimes when people write copy they forget they're not just writing for SEO. They need to keep in mind they are writing to attract the attention of real people who have specific reasons for reading the information According to our guest, Rai Hyde Cornell, Google's not the one clicking the buy now or book a call button. They are not the ones making the decision. So, why are you going to prioritize Google and Google's spiders and search bots over the actual humans who have the real power to buy. Episode Highlights From professional soccer to professional brand builder? “I started out pretty aimless after college,” Greg notes. While his varied career included a stint as a professional soccer player, he was always drawn to the creative arts—which led him to brand building. And in the agency world, creative work starts with a brief. The difference between a good brief and a bad brief. I liken briefs to the baton in a relay. At Ogilvy, Greg learned the difference between a good brief and a poor brief. I asked him to share and he answered with one word: “Specificity.” How to avoid generic brand storytelling. “You know you have a problem when you read the brief and it has a primary audience, a secondary audience, and a tertiary audience. When you try to do all of that your storytelling gets more generic.” You can't be everything to everyone all the time. That's why Greg prefers going beyond the idea of a target audience and straight to the bullseye. What brand has made Greg smile recently? As the parent of two kids heading to college, Greg shared how he was fascinated by the branding in higher ed. Specifically, how his kids connected with the brands that the various colleges and universities projected. To learn more, go to letsgomonaco.com. Today we have a "mini-global summit" on personal branding. Our featured guests are Rachel Tapscott and Greg Monaco. Rachel Tapscott runs a video production and training business called That Camera Girl. “I help people shake off their nerves and overcome a fear of the camera so they can get their message out into the world to the person who needs to hear it. I also host my own podcast called Mindset Mastery, interviewing people who live their life by design and the practices they incorporate into their daily lives. I'd love to offer myself as a guest to talk about building confidence to put yourself and your brand out there on video. I noticed the same patterns and limiting beliefs pop up with dozens of different clients, and I was able to formulate a process for helping people feel more confident and look natural on camera. I believe that anyone can be great on camera, you just need the self-belief to start. Rachel says you're not "too old", "too inexperienced", "too introverted", or "too-anything else." You're exactly where you need to be to start growing your business with video. Rachel talks about: how using video in your business strategy can help you attract the right customers and clients how to identify the limiting beliefs you may have about talking on camera how to kick fear in the butt and create videos you're proud to share Rachel's background “I studied a degree in film, TV, and radio, and like most people who go through film school, I wanted to work on massive blockbuster productions and become a Director of Photography. My first job was as a regional news camera operator and editor before moving into corporate video production. Originally these roles were a stepping stone to build up my camera skills to get closer to that movie-making dream. But my focus completely changed when I saw how video could change people's lives. With video, I'm able to help clients take their years of experience and package it into a product that can reach people all over the world. This is even more important where lockdowns, restrictions, and uncertainty mean that online teaching is the only option for many businesses.” YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFi0izf8O9PXQARNJfTX5_Q website: http://thatcameragirl.com/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/that_cameragirl/ We also are joined by Greg Monaco, Brand and Story Coach. For our first episode of Game Day Routine, I'm diving into the story of one of my closest (and smartest) friends: Libby Aurigemma, who is currently the Senior Creative / Copywriter at Peloton. Before her work at VaynerMedia and her role now as the voice behind one of the greatest brands in the world (Peloton), Libby was first just a 17-year-old high school double athlete. What skills and routines did she pick up during that time, as well as when she was a collegiate lacrosse player at Elon University? Focus. Mental toughness. Trust. This episode is so inspiring and got me hyped up, so I hope it does for you, as well. Brooke Strozdas is a copywriter and strategist whose side hustle is telling an industry defined by overwork to take its unhealthy status quo and shove it. A good design is centered on clear communication and words are one of the key vehicles to achieve it. Acting as the bridge between minds, words can excite, motivate, and guide people when used right. However - words can frustrate, confuse, or worry users about not doing things the right way if they are not used properly. In this episode of the Klaviyo Design Podcast, we have special guest Karen Muller - Klaviyo’s Senior Copywriter - to talk about the importance of copywriting in design, myths around the job of a copywriter and tips for anyone interested in becoming a better writer. We also touch upon brand identity and how language in social media is changing the way we communicate IRL. === Links === Twitter's...
