Join Paul W. Reeves, Ed.D - a longtime teacher and school principal, and the father of three children - and his guests, as they discuss the world of parenting your children, from birth through age 100! Also included are excerpts and discussions of Paul's parenting book, "A PRINCIPAL'S FAMILY PRINCIPLES - Raising Your Kids to Be Happy and Healthy, While Enjoying Them to the Fullest". On today's show, in addition to reading the chapter, "BIG WORDS For Kids!!" from his book, sharing wisdom from others, and a bit of humor, Paul played his interview with ANDREA WILSON WOODS. ANDREA WILSON WOODS, an award winning and bestselling author, former teacher/professor, and current patient advocate, joined us to discuss when she became the "parent" of her 8-year-old sister, and then led her through her final days after her sister was diagnosed with terminal stage IV liver cancer at age 15. We also discussed her book on the subject, "Better Off Bald: A Life in 147 Days". FROM HER WEBSITE: "Andrea Wilson Woods is a writer who loves to tell stories, and a patient advocate who founded the nonprofit Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association. Andrea is the CEO and co-founder of Cancer University, a for-profit, social-benefit, digital health company. With Cancer U, Andrea synergizes her talents of coaching, writing, teaching, and advocacy. For over ten years, Andrea worked in the education field as a teacher and professor for public and private schools as well as universities. Andrea obtained her master's degree in professional writing from the University of Southern California; her nonfiction writing has won national awards. Her new book, a medical memoir titled Better Off Bald: A Life in 147 Days, is a #1 Bestseller on Amazon in multiple categories. During the seven years she raised her sister, Andrea worked as a primary and secondary school teacher, and she acted in film, television, and theatre. Andrea received her certification in fundraising with a focus on institutional development from UCLA Extension. Andrea is also an ICF Associate Certified Coach and a 500-Hour Certified Yoga Teacher. She graduated cum laude from USC with a B.A. in humanities. After graduation, Andrea gained custody of her then eight-year-old sister Adrienne. Andrea started Blue Faery because she doesn't want another person to lose a loved one to HCC, and she wants the world to know Adrienne's spirit, strength, and courage. Andrea started Cancer U because she wants to change the cancer paradigm in the United States and she believes to ignite change you have to go to the source: the patient. She wants to teach cancer patients and caregivers how to become advocates for themselves so they can change their cancer journey." www.andreawilsonwoods.com https://betteroffbald.com

An opportunity to connect with John Miller of the Agile Classroom, a next-generation learning framework, with a student-centered approach, emphasizing collaboration, communication, self-organization, and social skills . We look at the Agile classrooms approach focusing on real-world approaches that the most innovative companies in the world use brought to a classroom setting. What the structures, workflows and pedagogic strategies for educators to consider when working with this framework. About John Miller I had worked for years as an Education Technology Director for a school district, which as a whole, wanted to move towards integrating 21st century skills within the curriculum. But what we found was that we could not change the way students learn, without first changing and modeling these 21st-century skills in the staff and teaching methods themselves. Using Agile, I spearheaded an innovative and engaging way to organize workflows with self-managed teams and quick feedback, creating a healthy and productive workplace culture that allowed for growth and prosperity. John is a Certified Scrum Trainer, Certified Enterprise Coach®, Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, ICF Associate Certified Coach, Spiral Dynamics Integral Level 2, and a Project Management Professional. When not focused on work, John loves to surf (well, wiping out more than actually surfing), spend time with his family and 2 daughters, volunteer as a life coach for students, and make insanely delicious drinking chocolates. She is an Author, Certified Professional Life & Transition Coach; ICF Associate Certified Coach, and Professional Speaker. Episode page and links (with video and transcript): https://markgraban.com/mistake156 She graduated college with a B.S. degree in Industry & Technology and enjoyed a career as an Industrial Engineer. And she has a FREE eCourse called Grow, Expand, Thrive (GET), In today's episode, Rachell shares her “favorite mistake” story about being a young engineer (the only minority woman in the group) and how she “ended up on the bathroom floor at work” crying as the result of the stress of trying to have a daughter and a career. How did getting a coach help her? Why is it a mistake to not ask for help? We talk about what she's learned along the way and more. We also talk about questions and topics including: What were your adjustments career wise? Letting life create her instead of creating her life? Tell us about the book — why did you write it? What is “negative self talk” and why is it so common in our heads? What's your “gremlin”? Do we all have one? How can we recognize doubts and negative self talk? At what point are doubts helpful (in terms of being cautious about something – maybe avoiding mistakes) and when do doubts get in the way? What is your “dream life” and are you making progress on that, Rachell? So many people have suffered from trauma in their lives. We often think of trauma as a huge, life-altering event, but it can be much more nuanced than that. No matter what you've been through - big or small - your experiences are valid. In this episode, Sheila Anne defines trauma and gives concrete examples of how it can manifest itself in our lives through behavioral patterns. If you're an overachiever or a people pleaser, there might be some serious eye openers in this episode for you! Sheila's mission is to help ambitious women thrive in body, mind, and soul. She supports clients and groups in making whole-person change by holding space for their unique experiences, offering new perspectives, and intuitively integrating healing modalities. She is a Trauma-Informed Certified Coach, Whole Person Certified Coach, ICF Associate Certified Coach, and Yoga Instructor. Connect with Sheila! https://www.sheilaanne.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sheflowsandgrows/ Some key takeaways on trauma are: You might think of major events or experiences when you think of “trauma,” but there are a lot more nuances to what can cause trauma. Intergenerational trauma, unmet needs when you were a child, and even life events that are usually branded as exciting changes like moving can bring trauma. Sometimes our behavioral patterns can give us clues to past traumas. For example, deriving your value from being busy and always accomplishing things might come from observing someone in your life exhibit “laziness” that made them unable to find belonging. It can be easy to attach your identity to these behavioral patterns over time. I called myself “The Queen of Indecision” for so long to mask my own pattern, and I've had to work to let go of that identity so I can get curious about my indecision and start to overcome it. Letting go of that identity allows you to work to overcome some of the impacts from trauma. Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that's me!). My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. Do you thrive on external validation? So many of us do, and this week Sheila Anne Murray is unpacking why we feel the need for external validation and how to find internal validation and self worth. Sheila Anne Murray is a Whole Person Certified Coach, ICF Associate Certified Coach, and Certified Yoga Teacher. Her mission is to help high-achieving women curate their wildly beautiful lives and careers - so they can feel more flow, deepen their relationships, and shine their unique light into the world. Her coaching approach is both grounding and action-oriented to help her clients make change from a place of alignment and power. She's helped past clients to pivot their career, launch businesses, show up more authentically, and create well-being focused lifestyles. She works with women privately, in groups, and often offers themed workshops. To become unstuck, do a good thing for yourself that brings you the feelings that you want to encourage more of in your life. We are conditioned to be outside-in learners, meaning we learn about ourselves based on what's happening externally. Take time to be quiet and in the moment to become an inside-out learner. A good place to start working on internal validation is identifying peak moments that make you feel like yourself and then identify what parts of your character came out of those moments. We were recently asked 'how to deal with a session as a coach when you feel that session was a failure, no awareness was made and the client became confused and left the session confused.'
