Welcome to episode 25 of The Way Out Is In: The Zen Art of Living, a podcast series mirroring Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh's deep teachings of Buddhist philosophy: a simple yet profound methodology for dealing with our suffering, and for creating more happiness and joy in our lives. In this episode, the presenters, Zen Buddhist monk Brother Phap Huu and lay Buddhist practitioner and journalist Jo Confino, are joined for a second time by special guest, eco-philosopher Joanna Macy.A scholar of Buddhism, systems theory, and deep ecology, Joanna Macy, PhD, is one of the most respected voices in the movements for peace, justice, and ecology. She interweaves her scholarship with learnings drawn from six decades of activism, has written twelve books, and teaches an empowerment approach known as the Work That Reconnects. Together, they talk about the passing and legacy of Thich Nhat Hanh, with a focus on interbeing and continuation. Additional topics include their own practices during uncertain times, and the application of Thay's teachings in daily life. Joanna reflects on the early days of peace activism, becoming aware of Thay in the 1960s, and meeting him for the first time in the early 1980s, during a special United Nations session on disarmament. She further delves into Thay's courage, imagination, and devotion to life and peace; religion and revolution; why framing the tackling of climate change as a ‘fight' may not be helpful; transcending individualism and achieving a wider sense of self; seeing our interconnection and inter-existence with all life on Earth; humility; the ‘legacy' of nuclear weapons; affection and love; honouring the pain we experience for the world; seeing with new eyes; having that ‘sense of wonder' at the end of the world; and gratitude.Additionally, she talks about some of the main concepts in the new edition of her classic book, Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re In with Unexpected Resilience and Creative Power, such as the importance of having “power with, not power over”. And: how would she like to see her continuation in this world? Brother Phap Huu discusses ways that Thay's teachings can help us in these times of crises; Thay's legacy as a peace activist; taking care of the past, present, and future; what it means to be a Bodhisattva; the interbeing effect; moderation; change; and the need for a spiritual dimension. Jo muses over the importance of bringing the future into the present moment; humility; how Thay became his teachings; and honours Joanna as a teacher and Bodhisattva. The episode ends with a meditation on interbeing, guided by Joanna Macy. That love wipes out fear, takes you into this world, and gives you strength and courage.” “‘This is' because ‘that is', and ‘that is' because everything is intertwined.” “An oyster, in response to trauma, grows a pearl.” “This world is too fragile and too beautiful for us to hesitate for a moment in service to peace.” “We are part of the world, and the suffering that is outside is also a part of us. And if the outside suffers, we will suffer also. And if we can bring peace to little villages, little communities, little families, the impact will multiply and have the interbeing effect; the idea that everything can connect and effects can ripple through.” “One part of what’s killed us is competition. That’s the ‘gift' of five centuries of individualism and capitalism.” “This planet doesn’t know whether it’ll be around to carry life. So that makes every moment precious. This moment is once in a lifetime.” “It’s at the moment when we're most tender that our heart opens the widest; when we have nothing left, nothing more to lose, everything becomes crystal clear. Everything becomes precious.” “Don’t try to cheer yourself up all the time. Feel the sorrow, feel the grief. Feel the loneliness. Feel that it’s good that you’re alive. And the fact that you care for the world, that’s a form of love. Do not let that get pathologized. It isn’t, because it’s not abnormal. It’s a face of love. Pain for the world and love for the world are just two sides of one coin. So honour your pain for the world.” “Don’t complain all the time. You’re not going to be useful to the world in any way if you’re not glad to be here. And then sorrow together.” “Thay had that quality of such fullness of presence that he didn’t have time to think about, ‘Well, how are they seeing me?'” List of resources Joanna Macyhttps://www.joannamacy.net/ Plum Villagehttps://plumvillage.org/ Fragrant Palm Leaves: Journals 1962–1966 https://www.parallax.org/product/fragrant-palm-leaves/ Pratītyasamutpādahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prat%C4%ABtyasamutp%C4%81da Dr. Dan Siegelhttps://drdansiegel.com/ Songs: ‘No Coming, No Going'https://plumvillage.org/library/songs/no-coming-no-going-song/ Bodhisattva https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhisattva Tassajara Zen Mountain Centerttps://www.sfzc.org/practice-centers/tassajara Call Me by My True Names: The Collected Poems of Thich Nhat Hanhhttps://plumvillage.org/books/call-me-by-my-true-names/ St. Francis of Assisihttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi Active Hopehttps://www.activehope.info/ The Way Out Is In: ‘Grief and Joy on a Planet in Crisis: Joanna Macy on the Best Time to Be Alive (Episode #12)'https://plumvillage.org/podcast/grief-and-joy-on-a-planet-in-crisis-joanna-macy-on-the-best-time-to-be-alive-episode-12/

For as long as she could remember, Nikole Stanfield was addicted to being busy. It wasn't until a few years into her career that Nikole began to experience the negative effects of working too hard. After scaling back her workload, Nikole realized that she was experiencing something many entrepreneurs do: burnout. Today, Nikole shares her story with other entrepreneurs in hope of teaching them how to be successful in their businesses without feeling like they have to put their happiness and health at risk. When people think about being an entrepreneur, they dream of a life filled with freedom. While being an entrepreneur in America has many perks, the culture surrounding productivity can sometimes be toxic and detrimental to the wellbeing of the business owner. Nikole explains that when we neglect ourselves, we will have nothing left to give and our businesses will suffer. So to increase productivity and prevent burnout, it is crucial that every entrepreneur is intentional about implementing daily routines of self-care. Tune into this week's episode of Get Rich Without Being a Bitch to learn more about the importance of implementing mindfulness and self-care into your daily routine so you can continue doing what you love without feeling burnt out. Quotes • “One of the most important things that I had to learn was that my needs are important too, and I need to take care of myself because if I don't, then I don't have a business.” (09:55-10:07) • “The clinical definition of burnout is that you are tired, and you have a lack of energy, meaning, and confidence in your life.” (13:49-13:59) • “When I burned out, what happened was that I stopped listening to my own needs.” (17:21-17:26) • “I want to encourage people to shift the paradigm and realize that self-care is something that you do daily for just 15 minutes. It doesn't have to be a huge commitment.” (31:47-31:57) • “When you're struggling with how to bring more joy and self-care into your life, think about something that brings a smile to your face and figure out how you can incorporate more of that into your day.” (32:58-33:11) • “A lot of times, the things that fill us up are not the things we're spending our time on. So getting support to shift that is a small step you can take.” (39:40-39:50) • “I don't think we have to be in burnout to be successful.” (41:29-41:31) Links Connect with Nikole Stanfield: Website: https://www.myintuitioncoach.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikolestanfield/ Follow Vanessa Shaw on Instagram Vanessa Shaw on LinkedIn https://businessgrowthacademy.com/ Join The Million Dollar Group on Facebook Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Is it a representation of how they work?” (4:28 - 4:38)• “A lump sum will not allow you to manage the money in your job. Have you tried a gluten-free diet for eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or some other type of chronic skin problem? Whether you noticed an improvement or not, you might wonder if it's worthwhile to continue avoiding gluten… And if so, for how long? I want to share with you my thoughts based on research as well as my clinical experience as to why I recommend to clients to avoid gluten. AND why I don't really care about whether it's an actual food trigger that flares your rashes. Gluten is a much bigger problem for chronic skin issues than it simply being a potential “food sensitivity”. No matter what you decide, I hope that this different perspective on gluten and skin rashes helps you decide for yourself whether to stay gluten-free or not! In this episode: Why I ask my clients to remove gluten (even if it's not a food trigger + skin issues don't improve) Research connecting gluten to eczema, psoriasis + rosacea Gluten's distinct role in increasing leaky gut Do you have to avoid gluten forever if you have skin rashes? Quotes: One study found that women with rosacea had “twice the odds of having type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis or Rheumatoid Arthritis.” Gluten increases leaky gut every time it's consumed whether you are sensitive to gluten, have celiac or are non-reactive.

Thus creating an imbalance between law firms and e-billing vendors. That generates a big gap between the two parties when they're supposed to work together.” @consultwebs “Law firms still lack to adapt to technology and that is the biggest killer because it delays payments and causes more invoice appeals.” @consultwebs “Through a firm's billing survey, 70% of firms said they're losing 20% or more with their invoices being rejected or reduced by e-billing companies.” @consultwebs “Technology is not going anywhere, it's here to stay. The first month of 2022 is almost up, and many people have committed to participate in Dry January, where they commit to starting being sober. As many people have experienced, going through their sobriety journey can be rough and challenging. Many people choose to return to their old ways and disregard their progress. In this episode of the Live Your Personal Best podcast, I spoke to Gill Tietz, MS, the host of Sober Powered Podcast. Gill has a master's degree in Biology and has dedicated herself to learning about alcohol's influence on the brain and its cause of addiction. She uses her platform to educate and empower others to assess their relationship with alcohol. Right now, she also works as a biochemist in the Boston area. Listen to learn more about Gill's different approaches to encourage you to try a 30-day sober challenge and start your sobriety journey. Episode Timeline [3:33] Gill shares her opinion on different sobriety challenges and if they are helpful. [5:33] Gill mentions the importance of having support when going through Dry January. [8:13] Gill brings up how long it takes to see the effects of not drinking. [10:41] Gill tells the effects of sobriety challenges after it's done. [13:18] Gill shares how she's coping with people surrounding her that are still drinking. [18:16] Gill recounts how she started her sobriety journey. [23:08] Gill reveals the mission of Sober Powered. [25:07] Gill leaves her one last piece of advice to the listeners. Key Takeaways Sobriety challenges are an excellent opportunity for those super curious to take a break from alcohol. These challenges eliminate a huge barrier, especially for those hesitant participants. Millions of people are now participating in Dry January, which started in the UK in 2013. If you're getting more than enough support when you participate in these sobriety challenges, there's a higher chance that you'll finish them successfully. Aside from attending AA meetings, you can also get support virtually from joining The Luckiest Club virtual meetings or NamaStay Sober's yoga sessions. The effects of sobriety can be seen immediately or longer, depending on your relationship with alcohol. It can be seen starting from two weeks to four weeks of sobriety for some people. The learnings you acquire after each sobriety challenge are valuable even though you chose not to continue being sober for quite a while. If you plan to stay sober, drinking mocktails and non-alcoholic beer could help if you're looking for ways to socialize with people during events. Realizing that nobody really cares if you're drinking or not could encourage you to proceed with your sobriety journey. They might ask because it seems odd at first, but it's not essential to them, so there's nothing to be worried about. You can miss alcohol and accept reality at the same time. Quotes “One of the scariest things about taking a break [from alcohol] is people are gonna ask why you're not drinking.” - Gill [3:46] “Part of the challenge is learning how to navigate real-life without drinking, so it's not just you hide out in your room, and you don't drink for 30 days, and then you resume life. You're doing life this whole time.” - Gill [10:51] “Addiction is giving up everything for one thing, and recovery is giving up one thing for everything.” - Gill [21:34] “Now that I'm sober, I have a whole life.” - Gill [21:54] “Addiction isn't searching through society to find the losers among us. It can get anybody. It doesn't matter how many degrees you have, how much money you have, what your race is, where you live, anything. It can get anybody at any time.” - Gill [24:32] Connect with Gill Email: gill@soberpowered.com Website: www.soberpowered.com Instagram: instagram.com/sober.powered Facebook Group: facebook.com/groups/soberpowered Join the Live Your Personal Best Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/personalbesties Learn more about your ad choices. That's really changed in the last 12 to 18 months.”“Rob's Backstage Popcorn is our first ever celebrity joint venture. This is a brand that was created with the Jonas Brothers. They'd been eating this popcorn backstage since 2011. They came to us ahead of their tour and asked us to turn it into a brand and consumer product that all of their fans and others could enjoy.”“We officially launched at the end of 2019, our initial approach, we were going to be much more omni-channel in nature. Because of the circumstances of 2020, it really forced our hand to be an e-com first company.”“We've got a couple other big celebrity partnerships heading, one before the end of the year, and one in Q1, we've got an exciting line of candy products that are coming to market next year, and a really cool plant-based snack that we're really excited about.” “A big reason why we've chosen this portfolio approach to manage multiple brands is just the wide spread opportunity we see across the shelves of grocery stores and a lot of the non-sexy categories that people overlook.” “We thought we had such clear communication, and that we were clearly communicating exactly what we wanted the company to do, and where we wanted the company to go. But it very clearly wasn't felt throughout the organization and we weren't doing a good job at communicating.”“Your day can start as the best day of your life at 8 in the morning, and at 11:00 AM you get an email with an unexpected twist and turn that that you just never saw, which put you at such a low, to only three hours later, have it get fixed and be back to normal. The emotional rollercoaster is unbelievable, it's indescribable.”“Expect the unexpected. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. And when things don't go your way, rather than harp on them, find a way to fix them.”“It's really a rip the bandaid off moment. And my general view is if you've been thinking about it for a significant enough period of time, then you just gotta dive into it and make the leap of faith.”“If you're thinking about it, pull the ripcord, life is short and in the grand scheme of things, nothing even really matters. Optimize for impact happiness and, and stop making excuses.”

The work we do comes with so many rewards, right? But with those rewards inevitably come risks. No matter how good you are, you will come face to face with a big fat lawsuit at some point. Yuck! I know! Not the sexiest topic in the world, but these things happen, and when they do, we need to handle them powerfully and intelligently. How would you handle lawsuits? In this episode, we'll break down a couple of ways you can look into it, how it can affect you either positively or negatively, and what we've learned from our own experience. The best way to handle lawsuits is not necessarily to always spend energy to prevent them but to set up protections and strategies before they come as you grow and scale your business. So let's dive in and get into the nitty-gritty to learn how to powerfully handle a lawsuit. Quotes• “One thing I know for sure is that if you are growing your business and your portfolio, pivoting, building teams, dealing with different contractors… you will face a lawsuit at some point. That's just part of doing business.” (1:39 - 2:07)• “The first thing that I will recommend is: you're going to look into asset protection strategies as you grow your business.” (3:07 - 3:13)• “I'm gonna tell you right now that you are not your lawsuit.” (4:12 - 4:16)• “I know this is a big statement to say, but you should celebrate, when you get sued, you should celebrate. Celebrate it from the perspective of, you're playing a big enough game, right? You're putting yourself in the arena.” (8:41 - 8:58)• “I think that the most important thing is honoring the other person and seeing the other person and not making the other person the wrong person and you're the right one; but honoring the human beings that are interacting here.” (11:39 - 11:54)• “Look at it as the cost of doing business. It's the cost of doing business. There's no emotion right there… Just move along, move forward, and learn the lesson, ladies.” (14:16 - 14:33) 3 DAY VIRTUAL EVENT on Dec. 6th, 7th and 8th!We have planned a powerful 3-day virtual event “How to Build Partnerships that Last” on 12/6, 12/7, 12/8 at 7 pm EST!We are confident PARTNERSHIPS are the key to leverage your time, funding and skill sets. Remote Collaboration, Tech Efficiency, and Career Journeys. In this episode of The Outspoken Podcast, host Shana Cosgrove talks to Lauren Lockwood, Founder & Principal, Bloom Works LLC, and Emily Wright-Moore, Principal at Bloom Works LLC. Lauren and Emily give their insight on the very real effects of outdated vital government services and what can be done to mitigate those effects. They also discuss their very different paths that led them to starting Bloom and why following their passion has been so powerful. Lauren and Emily also reveal their favorite projects with Bloom and how those projects reflect Bloom's mission. Finally, we hear what they wanted to be when they grew up, combating ageism and sexism within tech, and their advice to their younger selves! QUOTES “One of my favorite moments in a meeting was early on, working with the state. Me, Emily, and this other woman show up for our first meeting with their team to redesign some of their systems. The people from this agency walk in and the Commissioner is a woman, her deputy is a woman... they sit down with us, and they were so relieved that we weren't just a team of dudes walking into the room.” - Lauren Lockwood [50:10] “I feel like we default to this specialist mindset. And I think being a generalist is pretty, pretty great. I like knowing a lot of things and I like pulling in a lot of past jobs and past skills. So I feel like I would just stop worrying about that. Like, it's fine” - Emily Wright-Moore [52:33] “Switching careers is not a failure, I don't think. I think it is like you learned a lot and it was good for that time, but not necessarily forever. Think of this time as an exploratory time, rather than a first step on a journey.” - Lauren Lockwood [53:14] TIMESTAMPS [00:04] Intro [01:43] Meet Lauren Lockwood and Emily Wright-Moore [02:11] How Lauren and Emily met [03:04] What is Digital Transformation? Posterior Composites – Tips & Tricks Episode #346 with Dr. Lee Ann Brady Today, Dr. Lee Ann Brady from The Pankey Institute shares some of her favorite and must-try techniques for posterior composites. From her favored isolation systems to the many uses for plumber's tape, she has a variety of advice to improve your dentistry today! To hear this expert's tips, tricks, and techniques for creating the best, aesthetic composites, listen to Episode 346 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Patients find Isolite to be a comfortable form of isolation. ReLeaf isolation works best on patients with strong gag reflexes. Rubber dams might make a comeback peri-Covid for aerosol prevention. Ivoclar's OptraDam is the kinder, gentler version of a rubber dam. Retraction pastes are probably the best hemostatic agents in all of dentistry. Pre-wedge every time for a successful matrix. Teflon tape has multiple uses in dentistry. Prep scrub every tooth you prep to prevent sensitivity and reduce bond degradation. Be cautious about mixing and matching universal adhesives. Composite warmers will transform your life. To prevent cross-contamination between patients, don't reuse composites in the warmer. Quotes: “One of the biggest challenges we have when we do adhesive dentistry of any kind, direct or indirect, is managing contaminants, isolation — so, water, saliva, red blood cells, all of the contaminants that are automatically in the oral environment, and then some of the ones that we introduce through our handpiece. And they're actually not our friend when it comes to optimum adhesives, and we want to try to manage that.” (03:35—04:01) “I love working with an Isolite. Most of my patients find it really comfortable once you get it in and get it in position. And they prefer it over having to hope they're staying open wide enough for you or worrying about their tongue. It actually really does do a great job at managing isolation from a standpoint of moisture in the oral environment, managing aerosols.” (04:31—04:55) “I can't use [Isolite] on everybody. And so, the other device that you see listed on the picture is called ReLeaf, and it comes from a company named Kulzer. They're the people who make Ivory Rubber Dam materials. And I use ReLeaf for a couple of different scenarios. One is, somebody posted in the chat, ‘What about patients with a really strong gag reflex?' This will work much better because you're not putting any pressure or contacting the tongue. And it also works really well for patients at high functional risk.” (05:24—05:58) “If you get the ReLeaf, get one for your hygiene department as well, because it's probably the best thing that we can think about from a standpoint of using an ultrasonic.” (07:43—07:57) “Rubber dams are one of these things that most of us were super glad that we were able to leave behind when we left dental school. And then, there are other people who say, ‘I do all my dentistry under a rubber dam. I do think that thinking about going back to rubber dam isolation may be on people's radar screen after we get back in our offices, simply because of the fact that it does isolate us from the patient's oral environment, and it does prevent aerosols.” (08:42—09:12) “[The Ivoclar OptraDam is] actually what I call the kinder, gentler version of a rubber dam. Why is it the kinder, gentler version? Well, a couple of reasons. Number one, everything all comes together so you don't need to know where the frame is and sterilize it and find the dam material. It also isn't a flat piece of rubber dam, so it literally is the shape of the back of the mouth. And because it's not under tension, you don't need a rubber dam clamp. And if you don't use a clamp, you don't need palatal anesthesia on the maxillary, and you don't need long buccal anesthesia on the mandibular. It's already got the little holes punched in it, so you literally just punch the holes with your rubber dam punch.” (09:26—10:07)...
Today's episode begins with a special “Pre-Listing Extravaganza” from Garrett, where he invites listeners to send in their physical pre-listing packets, as well as a description of how they present it, to be showcased and discussed on a future podcast. Next, Matt and Garrett jump into today's topic - How and when to add people to your autoflow database. They discuss the difference between physical mailers and email content, when to use them, and they clarify that when you're sending postcards, you're offering high value information rather than simply asking for business. If you truly believe in the knowledge and expertise that you bring, don't hold that back from the people who deserve to hear it. Our hosts talk about using mailers to create real estate conversations, rather than waiting for other people to initiate them. Postcards also have the potential for a 100% open rate, and if you're not sending them, you leave the door open for other realtors to take your place. Matt explains how to effectively use email marketing, and Garrett outlines the importance of first asking for permission before sending out electronic newsletters. You'll also hear a healthy debate about the “Unsubscribe” button, tips on how to invite people to your email list delicately, and how postcard campaigns have completely changed people's businesses in Matt and Garrett's coaching experiences. Episode Highlights: Garrett begins with his “Pre-Listing Extravaganza,” where he invites listeners to send in their physical pre-listing packets, as well as a description of how you present it You can send it to: Garrett Frey, 3335 Placer Street, Ste 368, Redding, CA 96001 Matt sees a higher level of success among those who use physical pre-listing packets versus digital Effective pre-listing packets require a great deal of time and effort Next, they move on to today's topic - How and when to add people to your autoflow database Who to mail to versus who to email - it's always different, and you need to be strategic When you're selling mailers, it's high value information - you're not simply asking for business You can put people on your mailing list right away, and you can even add a personal note on their first postcard Some agents feel concerned that sending postcard mailers to friends and family may put stress on the relationship, but this is not the case Matt's own example of using postcards If you truly believe in the value and knowledge you're bringing, don't hold that back from people It takes the average person six pieces of mail to realize they've been receiving content from you - they may think they've been receiving mail from you all along and are just now realizing it after you met You can find mailing addresses by checking tax records If you're not sending information, this leaves the door open for another realtor to step into your place Create real estate conversations by putting people on your mailing list Postcards have the potential for a 100% open rate If someone is a client of yours, or you have had a conversation with them about real estate, they can go on your email list It's important to ask for permission before sending out electronic newsletters Make sure there is a place where people can sign up for your mailing list versus having to manually add them You can also let people know you're adding them to your email list, and they can unsubscribe at any time Some people are more comfortable with email marketing than others, and it can definitely be very effective You can send out one or two emails per year inviting people to join your mailing list, or put the offer in your email signature Garrett has seen postcard campaigns completely change people's businesses Please send in your pre-listing packets before December Quotes: “One of the things that we hear about all the time is people come to us in coaching, and they reach out and they're like, I want to create a pre-listing packet, and I'm not sure what exactly to put into it. I'm not sure exactly what it should look like… They overthink it tremendously.” “The pre-listing packet, as far as I'm concerned, is a defining piece for a lot of realtors out there.” “If you want to participate, send me your pre-listing packet. Send me what you got, send me what you would send to a potential listing that you have out there. I don't want email versions, I'm looking for physical pre-listing packets.” “If you send it to me, you need to be okay that we're going to, in some way, shape or form, showcase it on the podcast.” “I see so many people get stuck on, How do I add people to autoflow? How do I get people from my database?” “I just want to be clear about that - When we talk about the mailers...we're sending high value pieces of information. It's not asking for business.” “It doesn't stress the relationship if there's value there.” “When people come into your world, put them on the mailing list. Let them get the value that you're receiving. If you truly believe in the content and the value that you're sending, that it does add value, then why would you hold that back from anybody?” “If you're not sending information...somebody else will likely step into that place.” “Here's the thing - that conversation would not have happened if my postcard was not showing up in his mailbox.” “It's so much easier when you've delivered value to somebody, for them to come to you and ask a question, versus you sitting around, waiting for the opportunity to jump into a real estate conversation. Create the real estate conversations by getting these people on your mailing list.” “The reason I love postcards is because it really has the potential of 100% open rate.” “People look at their inboxes differently than their mailboxes.” “If you have an email list, make sure there is a place where if people are researching you, they can find a way to sign up for that as well versus you having to manually add them.” “Put it in your signature. Give people the opportunity to sign up in many places.” “I've had so many people in my career of helping that they have come to me and said, My postcard campaign has changed my business.” Links: www.TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Email us at TSW@TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Leave a voicemail at (208) MY-NINJA Ninja Selling www.NinjaSelling.com @ninjasellingofficial Ninja Coaching: www.NinjaCoaching.com @ninja.coaching Ninja Events www.NinjaSelling.com/Events Garrett garrett@ninjacoaching.com @ninjaredding Matt matt@ninjacoaching.com @matthewjbonelli The Ninja Selling Podcast Facebook Group
If you're like Christy and Michelle, you've been dreaming of your wedding day since you were a kid.....NOT! No doubt however, you've heard the myths of something blue, something borrowed, and no one else wearing white except the bride. On today's episode we're talking to Wedding Editorial Stylist Leona Morelock. She's helping us break down the myths, offload the expectations, and she's offering insider tips on how to design a wedding your own way! Big Takeaways Design Tips: * Everything doesn't have to be matchy matchy. Think white on white, or another color using multiple shades. * When choosing the right color palette, ideas to come up with colors, think what color is most. * Plan your color palette first! This will help you make all the decisions that follow. * Design a mood board - start big picture then narrow things down. Give your wedding day a life and a story. * What are the things you gravitate towards? Narrow down from there. * Have a common denominator throughout that appears minimally but ties the day together. * Design your weddings with your guests in mind. How will they know what is next? Wedding Myths: * It is your day - it is both parties of the couple. Not just one or the other. It's also your guests day. Remember everybody. Find boundaries with parents, and guests, it is your special day, but mind the fact that all the guests are there to celebrate and have fun too. * Everything will be perfect - don't go into the planning thinking this, there never has and never will be a “perfect” wedding. * Every single detail needs to be unique - you don't need to out do your friends. * You shouldn't pick the first gown/first vendor - if you like it, you like it! * You should have a one year engagement. * You need to spend your money on your wedding - another comparison trap. A modest budget still allows for special weddings. * Hiring family is the same as hiring professional - It can be done, it is doable. But remember you get do get what you pay for. * You need to have a white gown, and be escorted by your father - there are so many ways you can do this. You don't have to fit into a standard that you don't relate to. Meghan Markle walked herself down the aisle * You can't see each other before the wedding. * Guests can't wear black or white. The idea of starting a new athletic pursuit after 40 seems impossible to many people, but there are so many people out there proving every day that it can be reality. Key Takeaways If You Are Ready to Explore Your Athletic Potential, You Should: Redefine what athlete means to you Stop waiting to become perfect or elite Get out of your comfort zone Focus on activities that light you up inside Live Agelessly With Robin Legat One of those people is Robin Legat, a badass obstacle racer who helps women over 40 explore their athletic potential, gain confidence, and overcome life's obstacles. Robin is passionate about helping women live agelessly by sharing her wisdom and preparing women to run their best obstacle race. She believes that exploring your athletic potential at every age can help everyone expand their lives. What Is an Athlete? To Robin, being an athlete means having a body that is moved with intention and is tested from time to time. That's it! You do not need to be perfect or elite to get started. Once you can find an activity that you enjoy, the fire you get from that feeling will continue to motivate you. Being able to accomplish something that you never thought you would be able to do can give you joy that affects more than just your fitness but really impacts your whole life. You just have to be willing to show up at the start line. You Don't Need to Be Perfect, You Just Need to Show Up When you gain the confidence to put yourself out there and participate in an experience, you can still feel your ‘superhero' moment even if you don't do it perfectly. While your preferences of which activities you engage with may shift throughout the different seasons in your life, the positive benefits you can get from pushing yourself out of your comfort zone can be life-changing. By redefining the rewards and benefits that come from taking on challenges, you can gain the confidence to overcome life's obstacles and explore your athletic potential at any age. Are you ready to run your first obstacle course race after listening to this episode? Share what you loved most about Robin's approach to fitness over 40 with me in the comments section of the episode page. In This Episode How Robin went from a ‘non-athlete' to a roller derby star and obstacle course racer (11:44) Tips for redefining what an ‘athlete' is in order to see yourself in a more expansive way (20:15) Why it is okay to recognize which training lights you up inside and which training is not for you right now (25:47) The top 3 things you need to know about obstacle course racing (30:24) The importance of strength training when obstacle racing (34:55) Quotes “One of the things I am trying to break down in my little corner is the rewards and the benefits that come from taking on challenges such as obstacle races, that's just one example, but the rewards and challenges that come from stepping beyond your comfort zone, taking on new challenges, and discovering your ability to do things you never thought you could.” (11:19) “Obstacle racing is a lot of being a grown-up kid. You are doing monkey bars, and rope climbs and crawling in mud, kid stuff. And we forget that. We lose track of that and forget how fun that side of ourselves can be, and you can access that at any age if you want to.” (19:36) “That's why I love helping women, particularly women over 40, find that thing that lights them up. Because that can be life-changing in regards to your relationship with exercise and training and how you view yourself as an athlete.” (25:44) “All that other stuff does not matter. You need to have the ability to show up to that start line, just like I needed to have that ability to show up to my first roller derby practice. So know that you can get from the start line to finish line.” (30:26) “When you see you just did something, that you have never done, that you didn't think you could ever do, that's an amazing feeling that permeates into all areas of your life. And that's why I want to reach women over 40.” (41:30) Featured on the Show Join the Group Strength Nutrition Program Waitlist Here Robin Legat Website Seasoned Athlete Podcast Seasoned Athlete Live: Start Line Strong Follow Robin on Instagram | Facebook Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! Bridging the Gap Between Material Selection & Clinical Application Episode #329 with Dr. Taiseer Sulaiman Imagine a dentist who doesn't know what they're putting into your mouth. They don't know the name or even the basic components of what they're using. Would you really want them restoring your teeth? To help you not be that clinician, Kirk Behrendt brings in Dr. Taiseer Sulaiman to teach you the importance of understanding the materials you work with. Close your gap between material selection and clinical application! If you want to optimize your restorative treatment, listen to Episode 329 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Dental students are suffering from the gap between material selection and clinical application. Students are graduating from dental school with minimal knowledge about materials. No matter how talented you are, if you select the wrong material, it will not support your work. Not knowing how to select and apply the right material can ruin your practice! New materials have a lack of clinical trials and data. Finding trusted sources of information for dental materials can be a challenge. Offer gold restorations to patients before new materials. You know gold works! Quotes: “One of the challenges that we're facing in dental education, before we get into the clinical world, is that if you look at the area of dental materials, usually, it is taught by material scientists — and I have the utmost respect for them. Without them, we wouldn't be able to do the things that we're doing for our patients in our clinical practice. But many of the material scientists did not have the opportunity to try the things that they were researching and discovering on patients. And so, they were missing that link.” (05:15—05:50) “To be in an area where you can understand the research world, where you can understand the development and be up to speed with the materials that are introduced into our profession, and to be able to evaluate that, to research that, and then take what's useful and apply it in the patient's mouth or in a specific clinical scenario, that's when you really complete the circle. And so, that's where I think most of the dental schools are missing out on.” (05:51—06:18) “Our students are really suffering, because if you think about dental materials that were taught in the ‘70s and ‘80s, there were about five or six materials that were out there, and that was it. And so, now, if you look at dental cements alone, there's like eight, nine different types of dental cements. I mean, you talk about the adhesive systems, you talk about ceramics, you talk about composites, impression, etc., you can go on and on, how do you teach this to dental students and when do you teach it to the dental students? So, that's been a challenge in the dental curriculum, which I hope — and I'm certain — that a lot of dental schools are focusing and looking at.” (07:21—08:01) “You can be a talented, god-gifted clinician with hand skills and dexterity, but if you select the wrong material and you apply it incorrectly, does it really matter how talented you are or how well you prepared that tooth? That material is not going to support your work. Patients look for final outcomes, and they don't know how you isolated the tooth, how you prepared it, how wonderful your line angles and convergence and all that. They don't really care about that. They want a final restorative outcome that lasts for a long time.” (08:04—08:42) “Something as simple as not knowing how to select the right material and not knowing how to apply it is a big problem because it will ruin your practice.” (08:44—08:54) “The current curriculum right now, dental materials, is taught in the first year. [Students] don't even know what a cavity is. How can you teach them about adhesion and restoration of non-carious cervical lesions using composites? They don't even know what a non-carious cervical lesion is. So, that's the severity that we had.

Reshaping Dental Labs & Education Episode #310 with Dr. Mike DiTolla Labs will tell you that crowns take two weeks to make. But this isn't true — it could be made much quicker! And to teach you why you should start demanding three-day turnarounds, Kirk Behrendt brings in Dr. Mike DiTolla to explain the correlation between seating times and the need for adjustments. More adjustments mean loss of patient confidence, loss of time, and loss of opportunities. Don't just settle for “how it's always been done”! To learn more about the benefits of a faster turnaround time, listen to Episode 310 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Seat crowns in three days instead of two weeks, and the need to adjust almost disappears. Dental school normalizes the two-week turnaround time — but it should be three days. Not many dental labs are willing to turn a crown around in three days. Start demanding it! Check your dental assistant's crown work for over-polishing before dismissing the patient. Polish zirconia crowns instead of glazing them. Quotes: “One thing that largely hasn't changed from when I graduated is the two-week turnaround time that a dentist takes from the time they prep a crown to where they seat a crown.” (14:07—14:17) “Going from waiting two weeks to cement a crown to three days is a game-changer. I mentioned earlier that I left and went to Sirona, where you can do same-day crowns. And that is an ideal that we should stretch for. But we're still waiting for a really affordable value-based system that's easy to use before most dentists dip their toe into making restorations chairside. But seating it the same day should certainly be our goal, at least for single-unit posterior crowns.” (15:17—15:47) “Every dentist knows that if a patient is away for six weeks, or eight weeks, or six months with a temporary on, when they come back to have that permanent crown be cemented, the chances of it fitting decreases as that time increases. And I'm here to tell younger dentists that the opposite is true, that when you start seating crowns after three days instead of two weeks, your need for adjustments almost disappears.” (15:47—16:11) “Most dental laboratories aren't willing to turn a crown around [in three days]. And they will actually tell you that it takes longer to fabricate a crown and make it, which just isn't true. You can make an E-MAX crown the same day. You can make a zirconia crown the same day. It needs to sinter overnight, but it's ready on the second day. Really, what the problem is, the labs aren't hiring enough employees to be able to handle this workflow. And since dentists just have always said yes to two-week crowns, that's how it's always been.” (16:14—16:44) “Any time we take a bur to a crown, even if you polish away all the scratches on the surface, there're still tiny little microfractures under the surface that you can't see that connect over time and cause failure, and the crowns are less aesthetically pleasing. And any time a crown gets thinner, it's more prone to break anyway, besides these microfractures that are in there. So, our goal should be not to have to touch any crowns. Our goal should be to drop a crown from a foot above the prep and it just sucks into place. And for that to happen, this three-day turnaround is really important. And there's just not that many labs willing to do this three-day turnaround, and we need to all implore our labs to do it.” (17:46—18:24) “Maybe we should all be heading to same-day dentistry. But that's $100,000 and a lot of training to learn how to design and make crowns. In the meantime, three-day crowns is a perfect stopgap. And it's going to give you 90% of what you get from that same-day restoration.” (18:55—19:10) “It starts in dental school. In dental school, we don't even do most of our own lab work. It gets sent either to an outside laboratory or a central laboratory within the dental school. So, it might be two or three weeks till we see...

They get directly into the body, into the stomach without having to go through all of the other channels.” “I think sometimes we get very wrapped up in just the physical of like what we eat and what we supplement with without taking into consideration everything else.” “The first law is what I call the love vitality, the vital force.” “The second is the law of disease...the founder of naturopathic medicine states that disease is caused by three things...and in modern language, these are - deficiency, toxicity, and weak vitality.” “Looking at their symptoms which are really a reflection of an imbalance of imbalances. It's the way their body's pivoting, almost light a fighter... I don't see their symptoms as something that's wrong. It's more like this is the way their body compensated for an imbalance.” “I think it's how we've been taught. It's how we've been trained. You know, there's a pill for your ill. So just tell me the ill, give me the pill and let me move on. But then that person never actually feels better. They don't achieve vitality.” “ The powerful thing is that it's not having the right modality or having the right supplement, it's having the right way of thinking. I find that so liberating” “Your body will never lie to you” The fourth law is the Law of Compensation. Again from the founder of Naturopathic medicine, in his book, Nature Cure, written in 1913, he said that - ‘Everything you do to the body has first a primary action that is easily observed, and it's short-lived, It's transient, it lasts a short time. Then there's always a secondary reaction that goes in the opposite direction of the first that is actually much more long-lasting and more potent.” “The sixth law is the Law of Synergy - we can combine different therapies, different modalities, and they have a much greater effect than if they were just used individually...certain plants, when used together, are much more powerful than by themselves.” “A lot of that convenience, food, and lifestyle is leading to a very inconvenient decrease in our health” “Cytokines, in their very essence, are signaling cells and they're little proteins that cascade, one into the next.” “The seventh law is arguably the most important of them all, the Law of Intention. We really are the summation of what we think and feel and believe. And so what we intend, if we can visualize healing, that has an enormous impact on the outcome.” “Listen to your body, listen to its feedback, and then start to apply these different healing laws” “You just have to be willing to sit back and observe to sometimes press pause and to allow the innate power and ability of your body to step forward.” Additional Information About Jenn: Jenn studied and graduated with honors in Human Anatomy and Physiology with such a passion that it propelled her to continue her education over many years. On this episode of the Plant Medicine Podcast, Mitchell Gomez of DanceSafe discusses how to reduce harm by chemically testing substances prior to consumption. Mitchell is a graduate of New College of Florida and holds a masters from University of Colorado Denver. He joined the DanceSafe team in 2014 and has been serving as the executive director since 2017. In addition to his work at DanceSafe, Mitchell also acts as a harm reduction consultant for MAPS. In this conversation, Mitchell shares the origin story of DanceSafe and describes the important work they do. He mentions that testing drugs is illegal in many states, but following a precedent set by needle exchanges, the justice system seems to turn a blind eye to DanceSafe’s activity. Transitioning to the present day, Mitchell discusses the current state of the drug market, sharing information on adulterants and false marketing for a variety of substances from ketamine and LSD to cocaine and MDMA. Prohibition is at the root of these issues, he claims, as this is what encourages things such as selling fentanyl while claiming it is another opioid, as fentanyl is more potent and thus easier to smuggle in smaller quantities. Another government-related issue Mitchell mentions is the data the state gathers on drug-induced medical incidents. This data groups a variety of substances together, making it difficult to determine the actual cause of the medical emergency. Turning to the importance of chemically testing drugs, Mitchell stresses the benefits of knowing what you are consuming. While a single test with the right reagent can tell a lot about a substance, Mitchell recommends using a wide variety of tests as many drugs are often adulterated even if they do contain the substance they were sold as. Knowing if a drug is cut with another substance and what this substance could be helps people make more informed decisions about what they put in their bodies. Especially in the era of the opioid epidemic, this kind of information can be legitimately lifesaving. In this episode: The origin of DanceSafe and the services they provide How to use fentanyl test strips Common drugs currently being falsely marketed as MDMA New opioids which are laid on blotters like LSD Why using multiple reagents to test substances is a smart idea Chemically testing mushrooms vs learning mycology to identify species Quotes: “One of the things we know is that the speed at which new drugs are entering the market is accelerating.” [15:08] “Fentanyl, for a non-opioid user, a milligram might be enough to kill you. One milligram. If you’re alone, if there’s nobody there to call 911, that might be enough to impact a non-opioid user’s breathing.” [18:44] “Nobody has ever been arrested for just having a test kit. That’s never happened. If they find a test kit as part of a larger drug investigation, they will include a paraphernalia charge for that test kit as a means of coercing plea deals.” [21:28] “These are problems caused by prohibition. We could have fair trade, organic cocaine in twenty-five days if we just ended the drug war.” [33:00] Links: DanceSafe’s Website DanceSafe on Instagram Psychedelic Medicine Association Porangui

Matt and Garrett sit down with certified Ninja Coach, Gretchen Adams, to discuss the Scratch Pad Solution and why it’s so important in today’s fast-paced market. The Scratch Pad Solution (sometimes referred to as the Scratch Pad Close) is used to help clients who are on the fence about whether to place an offer. It allows them to sketch out the details of an offer and take the time to consider whether certain terms and conditions truly fit with their long-term goals. Gretchen explains how this can prevent future fallout for clients, and takes the pressure off to sign an offer they may not fully understand or feel comfortable with. Gretchen reviews the five most negotiated points of a contract (price, terms, dates, inclusions/exclusions and contingencies), and shares the advantages of slowing down the offer process for both client and agent. Our hosts talk with Gretchen about using the Scratch Pad Solution as a tool for buyers and sellers to ensure they are making decisions that align with their initial objectives, and how it can help agents demonstrate their knowledge and experience. Garrett awkwardly drops the mic as they discuss the “Magic Wand Offer,” and Matt explains how using this tool can help limit your stress and be more present with clients. The Scratch Pad Solution is one of Larry Kendall’s top Ninja tips, and today’s episode will leave no doubt in your mind as to why. So all of these systems and processes work no matter the market that we’re in.” “Typically the Scratch Pad Close, we’re talking about it when we have a buyer who’s on the fence and doesn’t seem to be able to...write that offer. So we offer up the Scratch Pad Close to sketch out those terms of the contract.” “Since things are moving so fast, this is an opportunity for a client to see everything before it goes off for digital signature.” “It’s really giving them that sense of how to use this tool, and what it is, and how we’re going to use it to help them be successful.” “There’s an opportunity for the agents to gain a little bit more control of the process, too, and it allows them to go faster.” “I provide, you decide.” “It allows you, before you get into that heat of the moment, to be able to say, ‘Hey, let’s figure out what is a reasonable offer to you,’ and that’s different than what we think the home is worth.” “It gets them out of that whirlwind...and puts it into a little more perspective.” “Any time you delay that conversation, it just builds anticipation and greater disappointment.” “If you could wave a magic wand, and have this go any way you want, and based on these five things, what would you like to see in an offer?” “This is another part of the process where we can demonstrate control, where we can keep them focused, and for you as a busy agent, it gives you the opportunity to be present.” Links: www.TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Email us at TSW@TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Leave a voicemail at (208) MY-NINJA Ninja Selling www.NinjaSelling.com @ninjasellingofficial Ninja Coaching: www.NinjaCoaching.com @ninja.coaching Ninja Events https://ninjaselling.com/events/ Garrett garrett@ninjacoaching.com @ninjaredding Matt matt@ninjacoaching.com @matthewjbonelli The Ninja Selling Podcast Facebook Group

When's the last time you followed your gut instinct or let your intuition guide your decisions? What if I told you that following that feeling and embracing originality would open the door to your innate genius powers? (Because it would). Join me for part five of this six-part series as I dive into chapters 13 and 14 of Ponder’s incredible book, The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, and reveal how you can start tapping into those genius powers today. This episode focuses on the Prosperity Law of Self-Confidence and the influence of your intuition on your prosperity. Truthfully, I loved these chapters because I know that I wouldn’t be here running I Heart My Life today if I hadn’t taken the leap of faith and followed my intuition with confidence. I also know the challenges of showing up with unwavering confidence and bravely following our intuition (and, often, into the unknown). That’s why I’m excited to invite you to listen to this episode filled with insight that could literally change your life. While it may seem obvious that there is a link between confidence and success, the good news is that we are all born confident and, with a shift in thought and action, we can return to that confidence as adults. This episode is filled with examples of how you can step into your confidence every day (even while you sleep). From reciting affirmations to practicing visualization, I walk you through some of Ponder’s pieces of advice for building your confidence. But confidence is only a piece of the puzzle. I also dive into the power of intuition and creative imagination, revealing how you can utilize both as superpowers to help get the clarity that you're craving and, ultimately, help lead you down a more prosperous path. To help you understand how to do that, I share five simple steps you can start utilizing today to develop and use your intuition to help you achieve your big goals and desires. While we’re often taught to be rational, in this episode, I invite you to stop denying your gut instincts and instead follow them. No prosperity will come from denying what you are feeling and what you are desiring. In fact, I explore Ponder’s thoughts regarding originality and how following your intuition allows you to tap into your innate genius powers. Now, I recognize that there are so many factors that influence us daily, causing us to question or ignore our intuition, right? But that’s why I take time in this episode to discuss how important it is to practice and learn to trust our intuition. Intuition and fear can frequently be confused for one another. Again, practicing with your intuition can help you make that distinction and move forward with confidence. Lastly, don't miss as I reveal five simple steps you can take to help unfold and reveal your intuition. The truth is, our intuition can go against common reasoning at times, but you have to trust that your intuition knows you and is guiding you down the right path and toward something more significant. As Ponder explains, the genius and successful people of the world follow their self-confidence and intuition without question. So why can’t you? (Hint: You can and you should). P.S. Listen to hear your opportunity to save 15% on my signature I Heart Money course with the special promo just for podcast listeners. In this episode… [03:07] Chapter 13: The Prosperity Law of Self-Confidence (and how to build confidence in your sleep). [06:10] Developing your confidence through affirmations and imaging. [13:00] Using your confidence to call forth the good in others (and how it benefits you both). [18:00] Chapter 14: Your genius powers for prosperity (understanding your intuition). [21:42] How embracing originality opens the door to your innate genius powers. [24:49] Why you should (and how you can) develop your intuition and not confuse it with fear. [27:28] True accomplishment comes from daring to be different. [30:20] How to open the door to intuition in 5 simple steps. [34:52] Your intuition is ahead of you and is paving you a path toward your desires. [37:35] Understanding your genius power of creative imagination (and how it can free you of negative thoughts holding you down). [42:22] Why silence is necessary to listen to your inner promptings. Quotes: “One positive statement of good is more powerful than a thousand negative thoughts, and two positive statements of good are more powerful than 10,000 negative thoughts.” -Catherine Ponder “Affirmations for yourself do not hypnotize you. Instead, they de-hypnotize you from thoughts of failure, which you have been habitually accepting before you realize the power of thoughts.” -Catherine Ponder “You are equipped with genius powers. You are born with powers of the mind that are little recognized and little-used because our attention is regularly turned to the outer world of activities. And I really think it comes down to you practicing and listening to your intuition because it's all about trust. No BS Interview on Digital Photography Episode #281 with Dr. Adamo Notarantonio If you want to be a good dentist, you need a digital camera — and know how to use it! In today's podcast, Kirk Behrendt brings in Dr. Adamo Notarantonio to teach you why. Not only is it a way to display your work, but it is also an effective way to communicate with patients and prospective patients. To learn about other benefits of good photography in your practice, listen to Episode 281 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: Work ethic leads to success. Put the time in. You need good photography in dentistry. Dentists need social media. Instagram is free advertising! Understand the materials you're working with to be a better photographer. You will never be a good dentist without a digital camera. Quotes: “One of my biggest pet peeve questions I get when I show my photos on Instagram is, ‘What camera did you use?' And I'm like, ‘Listen, I can physically send you my camera with my SD card, and you'll never take a picture like me. Why? Because you don't understand light. You don't understand camera settings.' You have to put the time and hours in to understand this to create the kind of work that you see that these guys create.” (11:28—11:52) “I don't know how anybody practices without a digital camera. I think you're nuts if you do. But if you can start getting into the artistic stuff, and it doesn't have to be crazy, the amount of advertising — I get so many patients from Instagram. And we used to spend $10,000 on 30,000 flyers to five local zip codes and get patients looking for deals, not looking for quality.” (15:59—16:20) “A lot of people will ask, if I post a composite, ‘Which composite?' That's really not the question you should ask. ‘What camera?' It doesn't really matter, to be honest. You need to understand how the composite I'm working with handles, what color is it really, how does it reflect light, and stuff like that.” (18:50—19:07) “If you're not taking before and after photos of your work constantly, which is what I do, how are you going to improve?” (23:31—23:37) “When you're able to display your work at the highest level, they come to you. You don't even have to do anything anymore.” (32:48—32:56) Snippets: Dr. Notarantonio's background. (03:32—06:32) Denzel Washington's garbage truck story. Right People, Right Seats Episode #279 with Kirk Behrendt and Christina Byrne You want to find the right people for your practice, but how do you find them? To answer that question, Kirk Behrendt chats with Christina Byrne to share lessons on creating the best conditions to attract the best people for the right seats. Don't waste time figuring out the how! Focus on finding the who using tips from Episode 279 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: With the right people in the right seats, you will be more productive and less stressed. Create the best conditions to attract the best people. Be clear. The clearer you are, the less problems you will have. Know your core values and focus. Create a function accountability chart. Focus on finding the who rather than figuring out the how. The right people share your core values. The right people GWC — they get it, they want it, and they have the capacity to do it. Give people a chance to succeed. Quotes: “One of the most important lessons [Peter Dawson] ever taught me — and I can still see his eyes when he said it — he said, ‘Kirk, you need to understand. When you have the right people, you can produce twice as much in half the time with a quarter of the stress.'” (07:14—07:27) “Another thing I'll never forget as long as [Peter] lived — and as long as I live — is he would say, ‘Money is the byproduct. You get the right people in the right seats, or you do dentistry for the right reasons, and any dentist can make plenty of money. And they'll never have to worry about money because they'll be creating so much value.' And I found that to be absolutely true.” (07:36—07:58) “The clients that we coach, I find the ones that really care about what they do, they always do extremely well. The ones that just need money, I worry about them because it's the money that's the focus and it's not the people.” (07:59—08:11) “Find the greatest people ever. Find the right people, put them in the right seats. You'll be good for the rest of your life.” (08:34—08:39) “When you find the right chairside assistant, it changes your life not in a month but in about a minute.” (08:49—08:56) “People always ask us, ‘How do you find the right people?' Well, you don't. They find you — for the most part.” (10:06—10:12) “Nobody ever quits a dental office. They quit a person.” (10:50—10:53) “Patrick Lencioni says in his book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team — it's my favorite quote in the entire book, and I absolutely believe this to be true — if you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry.” (19:51—20:07) “When it's everyone's job, it's nobody's job . . . In a business, you've got to clearly delineate and outline who does what.” (26:32—26:44) “When you stick to your core values, you're always going to be okay.” (32:06—32:08) “Dan Sullivan, who's a great coach of mine, said this, ‘Stop trying to figure out the how. Just try to find the who.' And I found that to be true, because the who can do this way better than you can trying to figure out the how.” (35:58—36:10) “When your core values don't line up with another human being, it never, ever, ever, ever, ever works . . . You have to tell people what you care about, which attracts other people that care about the same things. The wrong people, they're not bad people. They just don't share your value system.” (37:22—37:58) Snippets: The importance of having the right people in the right seats. (03:09—04:20) Some lessons learned. (06:12—08:11) The secret to dentistry. (08:12—10:12) Create the best conditions to attract the best people. (10:12—11:51) There are four conditions. (11:52—17:34) The fundamental problem most dentists make. (17:35—20:18) Eight questions to help clarify your vision. (20:18—23:22) Have a plan and keep it simple. (23:23—25:13) The bottleneck is never at the bottle. (25:14—27:43) Getting the seats right. (27:43—30:28) Having core values in...

In this episode of The Best Practices Show, Kirk and the ACT Dental team speak to Dr. Lee Brady about the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic as well as tips for prioritizing what really counts in your practice. The team is thankful to have Dr. Brady on the program to share her insights. She offers advice on a range of topics, including how to keep your patients' health a priority in the pandemic, and how to choose the right material for a variety of reconstruction types. Wryly, she suggests that technicians often know more about materials than dentists do, and it wouldn't hurt dentist or patients to refer to technicians for advice on appropriate material choices. Despite the challenges of "pandemic dentistry" and the myriad of material options, Dr. Brady succinctly communicates that ultimately she is a healthcare provider first. She shares a brief story of a patient who displayed a fever at her appointment and how the team was able to get her to urgent care to address any more immediate medical needs. It's not that your job as a dentist isn't important, but that your role as a healthcare provider is number one. Keep that in the back of your mind and you'll have no problem being successful. Main Takeaways: What is it going to look like when we pick the pieces back up? You are the most critical factor in the success of your practice. It's not about the dentistry, it's about a standard of care. Recommend treatment with the highest benefit profile versus the lowest risk profile. Technicians sometimes know way more about materials than dentists do. There are no bad materials. We need to learn how to use them. For veneers, choose material with the closest light properties to real enamel. We need to be paying attention to our practices to be smart fiscally. Quotes: “One of the gifts of the Pankey Institute is community.” (6:00) “I knew on Sunday that I was going to have to completely change my practice on Monday.” (10:40) “Bread and butter dentistry is going to be our backbone.” (13:30) “For me, the backbone of my practice has always been day-to-day operative dentistry.” (18:35) “Make sure to fully explain to your patient all the risks involved with a compromise.” (26:45) “The rule of thumb about zirconia is that the prettier it is, the weaker it is.” (30:15) “We have to give the laboratory the appropriate amount of space.” (35:00) “Be disappointed, but then get over it. And find out what the solution is.” (36:50) “When materials break, there are lots of different conversations to have.” (45:40) “I am 51% healthcare—I am always a healthcare professional.” (51:00) Snippets: Lee introduces herself. As a young boy, T.J. knew he was called to preach. His mother, his dreams, and even a grocery store clerk, spoke these words into his ears. And he ran from this calling, like Jonah. For a season. Through the love of a once-in-a-lifetime friendship, and the gentle love of a Mother, God moved in his heart and life so much, that he is no longer running from, but running to his calling. And it is a beautiful thing to behold. Understanding what ingredients to look out for on the foods you eat doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you start small. I’m joined by the Ingredients Guru, Mira Dessy, to talk about why food labels are so important to learn, how to avoid hidden ingredients, and how your grocery store is marketing to you. The biggest warning signs on any food label or ingredient list are: Numbers on the label The word “enriched” Artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners MSG About Mira Dessy Mira Dessy is The Ingredient Guru. As a nutrition educator, author, and real food advocate, her mission is to help people understand that it’s not just what you eat but what’s in it and what you eat that contributes to optimal health. Mira is a member of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior, The American Association of Drugless Practitioners, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Holistic Health Association, and a member of the professional advisory board For the Turner Syndrome Society of the United States. How to Read Ingredient Labels They don’t call Mira Dessy the Ingredient Guru for nothing! She opens this episode by telling us exactly how we can start taking back control of the food we eat: it’s all in the ingredient’s list! Mira knows that ingredients lists can be overwhelming, especially when you first start investigating them. She gives us a great cheat sheet of what some of the top ingredients we need to look out for are. From artificial chemical names and numbers to what the real meaning of “enriched” food is. It might even surprise you that our produce has an ingredients list. Those little stickers on our fruit say more than what type of apple it is. What the number starts with and many digits long all indicate whether the fruit is organic, genetically-modified, or chemically treated. It’s likely that you’ve already heard about the Dirty Dozen, but do you actually know what it is? This is a list of the twelve food items most likely to have chemical contamination. It’s pretty important that we, as consumers, do our best to shop organic for the Dirty Dozen. Where to Start Removing Ingredients It’s understandable if you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the ingredients you need to watch out for. That’s why Mira encourages you to start with just one switch and go from there. Choosing which ingredient to avoid first is up to you. But Mira’s top ingredients to avoid are anything “enriched” as these foods have had natural nutrients removed and then artificially replaced. She also encourages you to remove gluten, dairy, and sugar from your diet early in your transition to a real-food diet. Mira’s last tips are about learning how to spot sugar on an ingredients list. Sugar won’t always be labeled as “sugar,” but could still be there. She also wants you to get to know the farmers at your local farmer’s market! More often than not, local farmers don’t use pesticides but aren’t able to get organically certified because of all the regulations and laws around that certification. What’s the first ingredient you’ll be removing from your diet? Did you learn about the produce stickers? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “One of my biggest things that I remind people is that if there’s a number on the label, that means it’s a chemical formula.” [20:19] “Pick one thing that’s important to you. If it’s about buying Dirty Dozen and thinking all the way through that produce, start with that. If it’s about getting rid of numbers, if it’s about getting rid of artificial ingredients, start there and master that. Learn how to shift what you’re already buying at the grocery store, then once you have that under control, move on to something else. Don’t try to do it all at once.” [24:03] “One of the things we have to remember when we’re shifting away from a highly-processed diet and more towards a real food diet is that we’re actually nourishing our body. Some of those processed foods, they may seem cheap, but we’re malnourished, we’re not getting the nutrient-dense items that our bodies need in order to be well. What Are Movement System Impairments? With Sylvia Czuppon Sylvia Czuppon is a physical therapist, professor at the Washington University in St. Louis DPT program, and co-founder of the St. Louis Female Sports Medicine Initiative where she volunteers her time to speak to youth sports teams about injury prevention strategies. Sylvia describes a movement system involving a variety of systems (neurologic, endocrine, etc.) but these systems work together to create movement. Treating patients in clinical practice occurs using two models * Kinesio-pathologic model – impaired movements that create the pathology* Patho-kinesiologic model – an existing pathology which create impaired movement Therapists mainly use the kinesio-pathologic model believing movements overtime with poor mechanics will eventually create pain or pathology which ultimately lead to movement system impairments (MSI). Therapists should understand pattern recognition when classifying a patient's movement. Standardizing movement quality helps the therapist to understand the range of motion considered normal in a movement pattern. Since every person is different (i.e. structural anatomy), these values will not fit all patients but assist in finding the cause of the MSI. If you are looking for more information on movement system syndromes, check out these books from Shirley Sahrmann * Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndromes* Movement System Impairment Syndromes of the Extremities, Cervical and Thoracic Spines Check out the courses offered by Washington University in St. Louis on Movement System Impairment Syndrome. QUOTES “One of the greatest skills as a physical therapist is pattern recognition.” – SYLVIA PARTING SHOT “Each patient is an individual. They have individual needs. They have individual movement patterns which feed into the reason they might have pain. If we are not exercising our brains to try to help them out with a more individualized and tailored approach to their treatment, we are doing them a disservice.” – SYLVIA
How do you set yourself apart by impressing your clients? Hopefully, it is something that can land you bigger and better jobs. If you can be remarkable, you’ll find yourself with bigger jobs than you thought possible. Key Takeaways You don’t need to be an expert in everything. Asking for help, building systems, and seeking out the expertise of others is essential for your business to thrive. Build a team if you can. Outsource when needed. True success is a collaborative effort. Going out of your way to find opportunities to be excellent and unanticipated will set you apart. Being remarkable means doing more than what others expect from you. Going out of your way to build these positive relationships will result in a massive return on your time and effort. About Patrick Moreau and Rebecca Rapple Today, I’m joined by my friends at Muse Storytelling, founder Patrick Moreau and CEO Rebecca Rapple. Their mission is to create well-told stories that lead to positive change. Using the science of storytelling, Muse has told the stories of a diverse collection of brands including Fujifilm and Four Seasons. Getting the Support You Need to Succeed Success rarely occurs without help. Rebecca and Patrick know first-hand that one person can seldom do it all themself. Getting outside help and new perspectives will help move the needle of any business forward. It takes courage to admit that you don’t have all the answers, but the alternative isn’t worth the risk. Being Remarkable in Order to Succeed Success hinges on being noticed and remembered. In other words, you need to be remarkable. Rebecca and Patrick strive to do just that in their business. You may not feel that you are remarkable, but you are. We all are. Storytelling has the power to showcase your remarkability. If you can seize the moment, take a chance, and tell an unforgettable story, you will make your mark. Once you identify what makes you excellent, find ways to automate it. That frees you up to find ways to do the unexpected. You’ll have extra time and energy to go above and beyond and impress your clients in ways they never expected. What are currently doing to be remarkable? What could you try to stand apart? Share it with us in the comments on the episode page! In other words, identify opportunities for your business to make money so you can get the things that you want.” [6:49] “Being remarkable literally means being worthy of remark. It has to be special enough that someone would actually comment on it proactively. It’s the intersection between being excellent and being unexpected.” [21:29] “There’s just a couple inflection points; moments when we chose to do something remarkable. We went out of our way and it changed everything.” [24:09] “When you have excellence dialed in - when you already know how to do it and it’s a given - it frees you up to use all your brainpower and extra time to really focus on what you can do to be unexpected.” [27:34] “It’s harder now, but that means that it’s more important than ever that you focus on your business. You must really look at how you can be remarkable because if you don’t stand out, you are absolutely going to drown in a sea of supply.” [44:57] Links: Find Patrick and Rebecca online Sign up for the free Studio Sherpas Webclass Take Muse’s Free Course Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? I’m delighted to have her join me on this episode of The Girlfriend Doctor to talk about how we can actually create the life of our dreams. Does following your passion and purpose sound scary? It doesn’t have to be. Natalie breaks it down into seven easy steps to living that extraordinary life I know you have ahead of you. The beauty of these seven steps is that Natalie trusts that every single woman listening to this podcast episode can use them to create the life you truly desire to live. They’re manageable and when you take that step past your fear, your whole life is right there in front of you. Showing up every single day to do the hard work is essential to creating this dream life. Yes, that means when you’re tired and yes, that’s when you’re afraid. When you make consistent, aligned action, you’re manifesting your ultimate dreams. You also need to set firm boundaries with where you spend your time - and, maybe, more importantly, with whom. Protect your energy. And know in your heart when your yes means yes and when you need to say no to something. Saying no opens up your life to a world of possibilities. Using Change to Fuel A Life of Abundant, Aligned Action Natalie explains what happens when you find a group of like-minded women. Interacting with women on a similar path as you helps you feel more inspired to create inspired action to live a life following your purpose and passion. This time that we’re currently in is one of huge change and flux for not just us, but most of the world. Like the phoenix, that rises renewed from the flames, so too can we. When we use these periods of chaos, we can actually recreate ourselves and the lives that we truly want to live. It’s time to rise, ladies, and start living the that extraordinary life you’re destined for. Celebrate something that you can smile about and love yourself for. And share what it is with us! Share with your neighbors. Share with everyone what you’re celebrating. As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode: What the seven key steps to leading an extraordinary life are [7:00] Why you need to show up to do the hard work every single day [10:45] How to set and stick to realistic boundaries, letting your yes mean yes and your no mean no [12:10] What happens when you create a community of like-minded people who inspire you [13:15] How to use times of chaos to discover what you truly want to do in your life [19:15] Key Takeaways: Taking daily action that scares you will help you align yourself with the life of passion and purpose you truly strive for. Discovering your passion could be as simple as finding joy in painting and creating or it could be as big as uprooting and changing your entire life perspective. Our happiness is not externally dependent. Where we put our energy and focus will manifest in our life. Quotes: “One of the biggest reasons people don’t go for their passion and purpose, don’t create a life that’s as extraordinary as it could be, is because we’re afraid.” [9:11] “We have to feel our feelings and our grief over the things that we may have lost either temporarily or in the longer term. And what you focus on grows. It’s honoring what is, but at the same time, I firmly believe that there is nothing like times of pure chaos to create something different.” [19:10] “Perimenopausal women are at a tremendous time when our changing hormones will really call us to go within and to shed whatever’s not working, adopt whatever will help us thrive so that we can feel sexy, vibrant, healthy, and successful into our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.” [28:38] Resources Mentioned Sign up for the Extraordinary Life Summit! This week, Kris is joined by Ryan Hawk, author, speaker, thought leader, and host of The Learning Leader Show, a podcast that has millions of listeners and much industry acclaim. Ryan talks about his rising role as an NFL Quarterback, and how he pivoted to creating a show that allows him to have deep and thoughtful conversations with top leaders from all over the world. Ryan gives us a glimpse into what the world of leadership holds for early learning leaders, and practical lessons to provide to your business and beyond. He also shares a few of his favorite guests from The Learning Leader Show, and life-changing takeaways that came out of their episode. Key Takeaways: [6:42] Ryan played football at two colleges and even pursued a path to the NFL. The experience taught him a lot and he still draws from the lessons he learned as an athlete. [9:26] Ryan created The Learning Leader Show podcast as a way to show his continuing education as a leader, and start a public conversation between leaders all around the world. [12:42] Ryan’s wife and daughters are his ultimate “why” to inspire and lead, to show them it is possible to create your own life by following your own intellectual curiosity and vigor. [14:37] There are four commonalities that Ryan has found in the best coaches and leaders in his life. First being, they aggressively pursue their curiosity to learn more and strive to get better. [19:27] Great leaders over-deliver on a consistent basis, and they look for ways to make an impact and a significant difference. [24:40] Leaders should understand just how powerful they are; this will help them use their power for good. [28:48] It is important for owners to be engaged in the actual school management, to show up and meet parents on school tours. You can still work on the business, but show up as a leader at the integral times to communicate your mission and your vision. [31:10] Books are a magical thing, and it doesn’t cost a lot to acquire knowledge through the power of books. [37:28] An effective leader does all three consistently every day: manage, lead, and coach. [43:22] Two of the most important attributes and habits Kris has found from interviewing so many leaders are 1.) fast action and 2.) constant working on mindset. Quotes: “One of the coolest aspects of hosting is a show is that you have the opportunity to build real relationships with your heroes.” “The bad bosses or coaches were the ones who knew it all and had it all figured out. They knew all the answers.” “Part of leadership is showing up. Your presence is required.” Mentioned in This Episode: Kris Murray The Child Care Success Company Child Care Success Academy Child Care Success Summit — offering $1 ticket Grow Your Center Child Care Authority Child Care Exchange The Learning Leader Show Welcome to Management: How to Grow From Top Performer to Excellent Leader, by Ryan Hawk Miami University Todd Wagner John Maxwell Admiral Lloyd Mustin Stan McChrystal Les Brown Tony Robbins Tim Ferriss Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, by Robert B. Dave Watt is an Outreach Manager at Southwest Center and Founder of Team Friendly, a campaign to help end the stigma of HIV. When he was giving condoms out in bars to strangers, he felt like it was a bit too judgemental. It was hard to create a conversation around HIV and HIV prevention. This is why Team Friendly was born. Dave shares some of the things his campaign has been doing to help people feel more accepted and give them the space they need to talk openly about HIV and stigma on this week's episode! TAKEAWAYS: [2:45] Dave shares why he is passionate about being an outreach manager and how he got into the field. [4:25] What kind of work does Dave do at the Southwest Center? [8:00] Offering condoms to strangers in bars is not the best way to start an HIV prevention conversation. [14:15] What does the Team Friendly Campaign mean to the members of the community? [16:25] You need to market to everybody, no matter what their status is. [18:45] “No one wants to date a guy who is HIV+”. That’s the stigma Dave is talking about. [22:50] We have made such incredible advances with HIV medications, yet the stigma is still there. [24:00] Despite being in a pandemic, people still need PrEP! [25:15] How is stigma in trans individuals being addressed in Dave’s community? [27:00] Dave offers tips on how to help people with their diagnosis, judgment-free. RESOURCES: Swcenter.org Dave on LinkedIn Mrfriendly.org Teamfriendlydfw.org QUOTES: “One thing I learned about stigma is that it’s very varied.” “Telling everybody to know their status and to ‘make sure’ they wear a condom tonight is so full of judgment.” “Constantly analyze if your message is putting off anybody. Is my message putting a barrier between me and the people I want to help?” “The last thing someone living with HIV wants to do is pass it on to somebody else.”
Though it's a less common form of psoriasis, Inverse Psoriasis (IP) impacts about 30% of those living with Plaque Psoriasis. One thing about having Inverse Psoriasis that really caught my attention was the connection to getting fungal infections at the site of IP rashes! I always ask clients regardless of what their main concern is if they have had issues with fungus or yeast in other areas of the body. And it's not uncommon for me to find that fungal issues elsewhere tend to match up to having fungal overgrowth in the gut. I wanted to share my alternative perspective on Inverse Psoriasis so that if you're struggling with it (or you know someone who is), you can use it as a clue! You don't have to feel embarrassed or live in shame about it because knowing that IP is present could help you identify other issues driving your psoriasis under the surface. In this episode: What is inverse psoriasis? Candida + other bacteria that make IP worse Conventional ways IP is addressed Shocking candida stat that all Psoriasis warriors should know Alterative thoughts on IP + where to dig deeper Quotes: One study found that 56.6% of Inverse Psoriasis rashes had Corynebacterium minutissimum present making symptoms worse. A 2018 paper found that the “prevalence of Candida spp. colonization was significantly higher in patients with psoriasis compared with the control group.”
Did you know that your gut microbiome starts in your mouth? We’re told that the key to good oral health is to follow the recommendations set out by the ADA, but is this the best way? Trina Felber, the creator of Primal Life Organics, joins me today to discuss natural oral health. About Trina Felber Born in 1968, the second of five daughters in Toledo, Ohio, Trina grew up amongst a house full of skin and beauty products. Trina continues to work as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, as well as Paleo Advocate, Educator, and Skincare Expert. On this episode of The Girlfriend Doctor, Trina shares how the dental products recommended by the ADA might actually be creating more disease in your mouth than they’re solving. When these products contain triclosan, SLS, fluoride, and other harsh chemicals, they disrupt your mouth’s natural pH balance. Trina explains how your mouth, specifically your saliva, is the first line of defense against infections, diseases, and harmful bacteria that exists in our modern world. This is especially prevalent in our American soil is lacking so many of the vitamins and minerals due to factory farming and harmful chemical treatments. By changing your dental products to natural, chemical-free ones, Trina says that you can help create a more alkaline environment for your mouth. An alkaline mouth has a direct impact on your gut health and microbiome. Trina gives us the information we need to make informed choices about the dental products we choose. She tells us what the problem with most ADA recommended dental products is. And finally, Trina gives us a definite answer to why we should be scraping our tongue every day. How confident are you in your dental hygiene? Do you scrape your tongue every day? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode: Where a good, healthy microbiome starts How dental products could be creating more disease in your mouth How American soil is impacting our overall health, starting with our dental hygiene What happens when your mouth is an alkaline environment What the problem with most dental products is Why it’s so important to scrape your tongue Quotes: “One of the best ways that you can protect yourself is by keeping your mouth healthy. But if you’re using harsh ingredients or triclosan, SLS, or even fluoride, inside your mouth and body, you’re destroying your body’s first line of defense against all bacteria and all bad viruses.” (5:59) “I think that the ADA really has us all brainwashed into believing that we are supposed to brush our teeth to clean them when in reality, your saliva is meant to do that as you eat.” (10:03) “I know a lot of people that have not gotten the flu or a cold since they switched their oral care products because it’s such a drastic change when you use what’s good for you and something that allows your saliva, your body’s natural way to defend you, to actually work the way it’s supposed to. If you've followed along for a while now, you know that hidden bugs can be one of the root causes driving your skin rashes. H. pylori is one of those bugs that is often overlooked! Yes, there is an H. pylori-Skin Rash connection. Though most of the symptoms associated with H. pylori are gut-related, it's entirely possible to have no GI symptoms and test positive for this bug. Using the Enneagram to become a strong leader It’s EnneaTalk Tuesday and this week is all about how the Enneagram can help you build strong leaders. In this episode I share my story of how I used the Enneagram to build my company’s net worth from zero to over a million in 26 months. I explain how understanding myself, the Enneagram, and how to use it to understand others helped me become the best leader I could be and enabled me to understand core motivations to help others grow. Listen to this episode to see how being a strong leader can bring out the best in those around you, how it can mean less work in the long haul, and how the Enneagram can build self-awareness, trust, and success.Listen nowUsing the Enneagram to understand the core motivations of othersI share my journey of how I wiped out my network to start over, how the Enneagram was introduced to me, and how it completely shifted the dynamic in my household with my kids. When I saw how much it moved the needle at home, I started to use the Enneagram to help build my own company. The Enneagram helped me understand how each personality type communicates under stress, and their potential when they are healthy. I began to see the power of a great leader is being able to communicate to anyone in just the way they need it, and that delivering the message in a way people can receive it can change their life. But it wasn’t until I took the time to become my own master of self-awareness that everything changed.Mastering yourself to help grow others, and your businessYou can’t lead people if you can’t lead yourself, and you can’t lead yourself if you don’t know yourself. The Enneagram can help you master both, but if you are not seeing the results you want in your own personal growth, it is important to find a guide who has your best interests at heart. When you have strong leadership, you work smarter not harder, you move the needle faster within your business, and you help every person around you feel seen, heard, and understood.Quotes:“One of the things that is kind of a life mantra I say to myself under my breath is ‘hey, you got 40 more years of this, pace yourself.’” -Lisa 6:36“As a [Enneagram] 3, you self impose the most crazy deadlines, and we do not need to do that anymore.” -Lisa 7:51“Recognize that you’re causing problems for yourself by putting your own timelines on things that really aren’t probably realistic.” -Lisa 8:08“When you find what lights you up and fulfills you, then you can do that without having the spotlight.” -Lisa 8:42“What is the thing you want to be doing whether anybody notices it or not, that is the foundation.” -Lisa 9:53“Play the guide and you’ll end up the hero.” -Lisa 20:41“If you’re selling a product or a service, be careful not to project onto your customer why you think they should use it or buy it.” -Lisa 25:13 “What I love about the Enneagram is it is not [just] your strength, it is not your positive attributes, it is your deep, dark motivation and secret side and the shadow, and when you can discuss that it becomes your powerhouse.” -Lisa 38:10“When you’re clear, you are UNSTOPPABLE; clarity is king.” -Lisa 41:37“When you are clear, then you have no choice but to move forward.” 42:48

On today’s history and legality of LSD episode, we’re joined by Dr. Erika Dyck. As a professor in the Department of History at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Dyck focuses her research on 20th Century medical history with a particular interest in psychedelics, psychiatry, eugenics, and population control. Her books include Psychedelic Psychiatry: LSD from Clinic to Campus. She is also editor of A Culture’s Catalyst and Psychadelic Prophets. Dr. Dyck begins by explaining how LSD was first synthesized in 1938. By the end of the 1950s, LSD had been widely studied by numerous researchers who were interested in what this new compound might offer as a model psychosis or for treatment of alcohol addiction. During the mid-20th Century, it was used in multiple settings to help treat numerous conditions. It was even studied by the US military in a failed attempt to create a truth serum. During the 1960s, LSD found its way out of the labs and into the counter-culture of the era. Dr. Dyck tells the story of how this was largely due to the efforts of Timothy Leary who advocated for its widespread use. At this point, LSD had irreversibly left the clinical medical setting and became firmly entrenched in the world of illicit drug use. With a look to the future, Dr. Dyck examines recent changes in attitudes and laws surrounding LSD and other psychedelics. For the first time in over a generation, extensive research is being conducted into the potential therapeutic uses of these drugs. This is a significant shift that leaves open new possibilities for their future legal status. In this episode: What led to the original creation of LSD The early uses of LSD to treat and understand certain psychoses The origin of the term “psychedelic” How LSD became part of the counter-culture movement in the 1960s The use of LSD in secret military experiments What led to the criminalization of LSD in the United States and Canada What has changed in recent years surrounding attitudes towards the use of psychedelics Quotes: “One of these experiences of LSD was later described as worth ten years of psychotherapy.” [11:43] “Historians have tried to understand the relationship between the rising tide of social unease and frustration and civil rights protests that start to challenge the government and how the government responded by criminalizing these drugs.” [22:10] “Things have really changed in the last decade. There’s a return to questions around whether Schedule 1 is, in fact, the appropriate place for these.” [27:23] “This is a moment where there is a desire to think about those colonial tensions that have shaped our history. That might be another feature that will help us to reconcile, or at least appreciate, a different kind of relationship going forward.” [35:16] Links: Save 20% at Proper Hemp Co with the code “plant medicine”. Ever feel like you've done everything and STILL aren't getting answers about your eczema (or other skin rashes)? You're not alone. Even I felt like my dermatologist should have better answers than just use another steroid cream and "this is probably genetic". I really felt like the answers that I got weren't real answers. At a certain point, I realized that I'd rather someone level with me and say "I don't know what's causing your eczema" rather than just blaming things that felt out of my control. And that's how one of my clients felt as he neared the point of feeling very hopeless. He's tried both conventional and holistic solutions without getting pretty much anywhere. Fortunately, we crossed paths and were able to uncover a major root cause that has gotten him some great results! All it took was asking the right questions so that we knew where to dig! In this episode: Chad's challenging eczema story Why a really in-depth case history was crucial to finding answers How we chose testing that help get to Chad's root causes Why an elimination diet didn't help at all even though prior testing said he had many sensitivities What Chad's eczema is like now after working on his root cause Quotes: "One crucial step in my process is doing an incredibly thorough case history. I often ask questions that no one has ever asked before. All to tell me where we need to dig!" "If you've ever visited a third world country, it can be a red flag... even if you didn't get sick. It's possible that you picked something up that didn't make you sick enough to even consider it a trigger for your rashes."

Virtual reality is one of the newest and most promising fields in motion design. There’s huge potential for growth as well as exciting opportunities to create unique art. But, if you’re like me, you may have more questions than answers about just what’s involved in being an animator in this exciting new field. Today’s episode is going to answer those questions for you and hopefully point you in the right direction to discover how to use VR in motion design. On today’s show, I chat with two great artists, Collin Leix from Gunner Animation and Illustration Studio and Rosie Summers, a VR painter at XR Games. They’re here to share what their role in virtual reality designs is and how we can use it as motion designers. Collin and Rosie explain how creating in VR is both similar and different from creating other types of motion design pieces. While it may share many of the basic aspects, they are very excited by how much more interactive and performative it can be in practice. There are many programs to use when making VR art and they describe some of these and how they use them as well. If you’re interested in getting started with VR in motion design, Collin and Rosie chat about avenues that you can take advantage of right away. Both Rosie and Collin recommend that you begin by creating storyboards and moving on to animate them in VR. They also share how they use these creations when pitching potential clients. If you’ve been making 3D art, then you’re ready to move on to creating in the virtual reality space. Collin and Rosie explain how they use their knowledge of 3D when making VR animations and share what you can do to try your hand in it too. In this episode The performative nature of VR art Useful tools for creating VR animations Tips for using a headset to explore the VR world of your creation How working in 3D is the natural place to start before creating in VR Simple ways to make VR animations right away What the job landscape is in VR right now Hopes and predictions for the future of virtual reality How we can use VR in motion design Quotes “One of the things I realized really fast about making VR art is how your body makes the artwork. Instantly I saw a performative aspect to this.” [2:30] “People who are making things in 3D are in the first most natural step towards trying to make something in VR because you’re truly working in 3D space.” [15:42] “I really hope that reality isn’t ditched for the virtual. I hope it compliments it. I hope we use these virtual tools to enhance our experience in the real world rather than replace it.” [28:39] “Trust yourself and your creative instincts. It’s early enough in VR that people who jump in still have time to shape it. What you bring to it might be different from anybody else.” [43:18] Links Find Rosie Summers online Follow Rosie on Twitter | YouTube | Instagram Rosie doing her performative VR painting Find Collin Leix online Follow Collin on Instagram Blend Fest Quill Danny Bittman Gora Fujita Nick Ladd Dear Angelica Oculus Story Studio Join the Motion Hatch community Thanks for Listening! One out of 10 women have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and it’s the leading cause of infertility in the United States. That's why managing your PCOS with diet and lifestyle is such an important part of the fertility journey. My friend and fellow RD Cory Levin is here to talk about how to optimize your fertility so you can get pregnant with PCOS. ABOUT CORY LEVIN, RD Cory is a registered dietitian who specializes in women’s health, specifically hormones, fertility, digestion, and PCOS. Cory has PCOS herself, and using her own nutrition advice has conceived naturally! In fact, she has very recently given birth to a beautiful baby girl. There is a lot of information out there that claims women with PCOS should be eating a very low carb or ketogenic diet, but we don’t necessarily agree. Most women with PCOS do best with a moderate amount of carbs while balancing those carbs with healthy proteins and fats. Unless your body specifically doesn’t adapt well to carbs, or you have another underlying medical condition, most women don't need to be on a very low carb diet longterm. Ultimately, as Cory explains, your diet needs to balance your blood sugar. A major indicator of PCOS is insulin resistance, which means that your body is more likely to develop diabetes. Cory also shares what kind of exercise women with PCOS should do - it’s all about getting that balance. Cory breaks down exactly what women with PCOS should do when they’re trying to get pregnant. It’s all about proper diet and nutrition, appropriate supplementation, and making sure their partner is healthy and fertile, as well. The biggest thing is actually that even if you have a regular period, which many women with PCOS don’t, you might not be ovulating. Cory talks about a few methods to check in on your body’s ovulation, and specifically, how to chart your basal body temperature, as this is the most accurate method. Did you know that your gut health is connected to your hormonal health? And that women with PCOS are more likely to have gut dysbiosis? It’s important to get appropriate testing done to make sure your gut is healthy, free of dysbiosis, and promoting a positive environment for the rest of your body. Cory shares what supplements she would recommend for most of the women with PCOS she works with and why. She also explains how you can work with your partner to make sure his fertility level is high and his sperm is healthy so that your fertility as a couple is optimal. Lastly, Cory talks about how pivotal it is to have a network of supportive women when you’re going through your infertility journey. Are you a woman with PCOS who wants to get pregnant? Is your diet and exercise routine designed to keep your blood sugar stable? How comfortable are you talking with your partner or your friends about your infertility experiences? In This Episode What your macronutrient breakdown should look like Why you need to eat a diet that balances your blood sugar when you have PCOS What kind of exercise you should do What you should do when you’re trying to get pregnant with PCOS How to make sure that you’re ovulating Why you should track your cycle using basal body temperature What your gut health has to do with your hormonal health What supplements are key to help you with your PCOS symptoms and menstrual irregularity How does men’s health impact fertility levels Why you need to connect with other women when you’re going through your infertility journey Quotes “One out of 10 women have PCOS and it’s the leading cause of infertility in the United States.” (8:15) “Statistically, 50% of fertility challenges are actually related to the man’s health. Which, when you say it out loud, it’s obvious, but the way that we act in terms of people struggling with infertility, it’s always asking what the woman is doing.” (36:23) “Find a community, whether it’s online or in-person, find a support system, or just one person, that will listen to you and empathize with you and make this potentially long journey significantly less lonely. Because, as women, we have to be there for each other. Infertility is not easy.” (49:52) Fun fact: Cory is one of my extraordinary business mentorship clients. In this episode of the Mobile Home Park Investing Podcast, Kevin welcomes Gene Norman. Gene is a senior meteorologist and the VP of marketing at HazardCall. HazardCall is a system developed for manufactured homes wherein any community can give their residents alerts and notifications that help them make decisions about approaching impactful weather events such as tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and ice storms among others. Gene explains how and why HazardCall came into fruition and discusses the value in their messaging system that comes from procuring their services. Gene also provides a step by step illustration of HazardCall's system and how it works. Kevin and Gene also talk about pricing, extra features, and other details about HazardCall. Quotes: “One of the biggest challenges of course, is telling people what to do when there's an emergency and where they should go and that they should even have a plan.” “When your phone rings at 2 in the morning, you're likely going to pay attention to that and we got urgent messaging that tells them there's a storm threat but it also gives them instructions on what they should do.” “If the community manager finds out from the local emergency officials or from the power company that the power will be back on at such a time, we can type out that message on their phone and all the residents who were displaced would get that.” “It doesn't happen everyday so we're not calling everyday but when those things are happening in your neighborhood, when the phone rings then we'll get your attention and hopefully that will incite and send you to take the safety action that you need. Each unit, so to speak, can have up to two numbers assigned to it.” “The biggest challenge a home community owner will have will be collecting resident information. But once you do that and put it into the system, you know maintaining this is fairly easy to do and we help you every step of the way..” Discussed in this Episode: 5:40 What is Hazard Call? 13:06 The messaging system and weather alerts 18:57 Gene explains how their system works [see link to presentation slides] 23:21 Pricing 26:36 Gene talks about “PR insurance” and other system features RESOURCES: View Career Opportunities at Sunrise Capital by visiting Careers.SunriseCapitalInvestors.com Check out our company and our partnership opportunities by visiting SunriseCapitalInvestors.com Would you like to partner with us on future MHP deals, call 844-CASH-FLW to learn more or click here to schedule a time on our calendar. Welcome to part two of an incredible and mind-blowing interview I had with microbiologist Kiran Krishnan. Here we continue our conversation about the link between the gut and the skin and the role that probiotics can play in maintaining a healthy microbiome. If you haven't listened to part one with Kiran, please head here to listen to it first! My guest, Kiran Krishnan is deeply involved in the nutrition and dietary supplement market. He has a strict research background having spent many years in research and development in molecular medicine and microbiology. He is also the co-founder and partner in his nutritional research and development company Nu Science Trading. Most notably he is the co-founder and chief scientific officer at Microbiomes Lab where he makes MegaSporeBiotic, one of my all-time favorite probiotics. In this part of the interview, we talk about how we can use probiotics as a natural defense to ward off bad bacteria from our skin. In fact, you can apply many probiotics directly to your skin to help with many issues and we discuss how to best do that. The right probiotics can even help you tackle certain more hard to control issues like candida overgrowth. Have you had success using probiotics to treat a chronic skin issue? Tell me about it in the comments! In this episode: How good bacteria on your skin will provide a defense against the bad bacteria you don't want there Just what spore-based probiotics are and their unique benefits for you Kiran's dos and don'ts for applying probiotics topically to make the good bacteria on your skin happy Coconut oil's role as an antimicrobial and how it can kill both helpful and harmful bacteria What makes candida overgrowth so hard to get rid of and how probiotics can help Quotes: “One of the things that we know about the skin is there's a couple of classes of important bacteria that keep the skin healthy. But once you start to get an overgrowth of a bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus you end up with eczema, dermatitis, and so on. So it's just a matter of switching the types of bacteria that are growing on the skin.” [17:36] “You know who wants sugar on your face? Fungus. Fungus will love the sugar on your face, so be careful with that. A lot of people suffer from fungal overgrowths on their skin…. You want to be careful of using sweet things, because that's what the fungus likes.” [28:29] “Candida overgrowth is a symptom of other issues going on. It's an opportunistic fungus. The moment your immune system and the rest of your microbiome is suppressed for whatever reason, it will start blooming and overgrowing.” [29:42] Links: Listen to Pt 1 of my talk with Kiran here! Today, we're getting to know Amanda Pittman By Her Shelf: Amanda Pittman is a Christian, a wife, and a mother. She is the author of two books, “Reflecting God’s Beauty,” and “Love Your First Year of Marriage.” Amanda is the founder of the Confident Woman Mentorship Program and helps her husband pastor The Gathering Oasis Church Downtown. In her free time, Amanda creates social media content that inspires and equips women to be confident and Christ-centered. In this episode, Amanda and I discuss: Consumption vs. creation in social media and reading Why even avid readers should give themselves space to write The odd reading habit Amanda shares with her mother ...and so much more. Amanda was the very first person I interviewed for By Her Shelf, and this interview really set the tone for me. Her words about creating and using our voices were the exact encouragement I needed to hear as I was stepping into this new space. If you find yourself struggling with self-confidence or using your voice, I know you will be encouraged by this conversation as well. Quotes: One of the most valuable things we've been given is our voice. It's not that you don't have any valuable thoughts, it's that you haven't give your mind any air to breathe. What are you doing with all the information you stored up? At the end of the day our confidence boils down to what we believe and if we believe the best about ourselves. If we believe what God says we are and who God says we are, then we're going to walk in confidence. Having the mindset of contentment and compassion is a way we can reflect the beauty of God and not the ugliness of the world. The Books (These are affiliate links. There are over 60,000 books on Amazon with “leadership” in the title, and despite the focus on leadership, most business-oriented development programs don’t measure effectiveness; and turnover has never been higher. A Gallup report found that 21% of Millennials have changed jobs within the past year—three times higher than other workers. Today, Jim and Jan discuss why that is and take a look at leadership development from a few different angles. They talk about how to determine if your leadership development IS working, and the importance of understanding trends and patterns. Lastly, they discuss how to get to root causes where real change is possible. Key Takeaways [3:06] Much like a diet, if you want true success, with leadership development you have to be all the way in. [4:00] Leadership development is akin to taking fish out of a dirty fish tank, scrubbing the fish and then putting them back in the dirty fish tank. [5:23] We approach leadership development issues from the training system when really it comes from organizational development and a design system. [9:02] Rather looking at leadership development as a specific event, see it as evolution with a process that builds over time. [13:40] It is important to look at the current state of the organization, and see the issues in leadership development as symptoms of something bigger within the entire system. Then, identify your version of success, how you will measure it, and determine if it’s will take small steps or giant leaps to get there. [15:40] A majority of leadership development trainings are done off impulse. Instead, great leaders measure the right things with subjectivity and really take a look at their own self in the mirror. [19:41] 80% of people out there do not trust their boss to tell the truth. [21:56] Leadership development programs should be sustainable, lead to empowerment and improve the organization. [26:45] Assemble a team to fact check all the assumptions that the team has made. Find out which ones are true, and then you will have better information on where you need to invest their time, energy and money for the greatest return. Quotes “One organization's effective leader is not the same as another organization's effective leader.” “Every organization is a complex adaptive system.” “Before we take a leap, we must take really good measurement.” “It does not need to be pain that makes you take action.” “When you turn around, do you have followers?” - Jeffrey Pfeffer “Leaders have the power to control and fix the environment.” “Take a holistic approach, because you have to get the ecosystem right.” Instagram: @WeStudyLeaders LinkedIn: @TheLeadershipPodcast Facebook: @westudyleaders Twitter: @westudyleaders Website: The Leadership Podcast info@theleadershippodcast.com Combat Flip Flops - use code WESTUDYLEADERS for 20% discount Project Rescue - Are your projects causing you great pain? What you need to know about jumbo loans.Quotes:One thing to keep in mind about jumbo loans unlike traditional mortgages typically jumbo loans isn't sold. The bottom line is we're trying to get the loan amount under that $453,000 threshold as not to be in the jumbo loan criteria.Shownotes:00:38 Houston Home Talk show introduction.00:05 A jumbo loan is a specific product. As of January 1st of 2018, a jumbo loan was considered a mortgage loan of $453,100 or higher01:53 Pricing on non-jumbo loans is typically a little bit better, meaning the interest rates are a little bit lower typically.02:37 San Francisco, a lot of places out in California, the FHA agency has identified a lot of these high priced areas. These are places where. The costs of real estate are just through the roof. They make some exceptions with certain states and certain cities to where their loan limits are going to be a little bit higher03:12 We are in a state, in the state of Texas where real estate is relatively inexpensive as it compares to a lot of other major cities, which is why Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas are typically always on the top 10 or so places to live for the cost of living04:21 The only thing that may matter is if they're servicing the loan, the lender could be a little more creative with their loan programs because they're servicing it. Typically with jumbo loans, they do not get sold off, typically.05:23 Depending on the loan amount and the terms that the jumbo loan lender is offering, it may also be wise for you to explore other options since jumbo rates are typically higher than those on traditional mortgages.06:32 Jumbo loans, oftentimes people have 20 percent. It's not necessarily a requirement to have 20 percent. But in any mortgage situations the more you put down the better. 07:20 Keep in mind that lenders of the first mortgage have to approve any subsequent mortgages.08:40 Keep in mind the lender of the first mortgage has to approve any subsequent mortgages that you as a buyer may want to take out because the risk of default for the first mortgage will be higher once the second is added09:05 It's super important guys that all the options be explored with your lender. If you've got a great lender, they will be able to break this down for you and see which way they can save you the most money. If you like this episode of the Houston Inside Out podcast, please don't forget to like, share, and comment! Wow. We did it! Not only did we hit 200 episodes, but we did it 200 weeks in a row. A special thanks to our community whom I give all the credit to for allowing this feat to be accomplished. Without you and your willingness to share your experiences, there is no way we could have done 200 weeks in a row with uninterrupted content. For this episode, we are bring back two members who were part of our first 10 episodes and we’re all “talking mistakes”. Given the idea of the show is to show the “realistic” side of trading, I figured what better way to celebrate 200 episodes than all sharing some of our biggest screw-ups, no matter how embarrassing they may be. Let’s go! Show Notes: Today we celebrate making it to 200 episodes with Nate, Hooch, Clay and Chezz. We spend the episode talking about the three biggest mistakes they’ve made since they started trading. The first eye opening mistake most of us made was not being completely aware of the commission structures and how they vary across multiple brokers. One of Nate’s biggest mistakes was thinking that a bad trade he was in could not get any worse… when in reality it can always get worse. Trade what you see, not what you think. Hooch talks about the importance of multiple sources of income. He clarifies that you do not need to start the next Fortune 500 company to earn some extra income. Multiple sources of income provide you mental comfort if your trading wasn’t as stellar as you had expected. Chezz talks about putting a set time frame for when you should start to be ‘good’ at trading. In reality, everyone takes a different amount of time to hone their craft. When talking about trading mistakes specifically, greed is one that spans across the board. Everyone has to learn how to wrangle this emotion if they ever want to have lasting success. An important criteria for trading always involves liquidity. Regardless of your ability to buy, if you’re unable to sell then you’re opening yourself up to the possibility for a big loss. Hooch’s final thought is to remember there are times when you probably shouldn’t trade. This relates to major life changes such as marriage, more children on the way, buying a new house, etc. Anything that is a large event in your life can impact your mentality which will come out in your trading. Quotes: One of my biggest mistakes was not understanding commissions and how it can screw up a trade plan My biggest mistake I like to point out was having the false mentality of thinking ‘it can never get worse.’ You don’t have to start up a new Amazon… even if I make an extra 40-50 bucks in the afternoon I find that really helps me mentally. Overconfidence or thinking you can put a set time frame on when you think you will be good at trading is my biggest mistake. Greed is one of the worst things to deal with emotionally when trading. Doesn’t matter how good or bad your day is going. You always think you can squeeze out a little bit more. Another big mistake is knowing when not to trade. Such as getting married or moving or something major on your mind. Trading is such a mind game. Links: Uber Eats: https://partners.uber.com/i/davep13196ue
A community favorite of mine is back to update us on her journey. Rena (same name in the chatroom) is someone I admire greatly. I’ve met her in person on multiple occasions and she is someone who we can all learn from given her willingness to talk about anything and everything, particularly the “bad stuff”. She’s a solid trader, no doubt about it, but like all traders she suffers from certain voices that have caused her hiccups. She has pressed on through perseverance and encouragement and has turned the corner in her trading. She’s on the right path, now it’s just a matter of staying laser focused to remain on the path (which she is doing a great job of!). Don’t miss this episode, let’s get to it! Show Notes Today we revisit with Rena. As we learned in her last podcast, her son was a large factor in her getting back into the market at a serious level. He has had quite an interest in the market and it was something they both had in common. While Rena has had many successful trades utilizing a rubberband type strategy, the problem she has is managing the ones that do not work. Those losers ultimately wipe out a month or more of profit in one shot. She wanted to start 2018 on a clean slate and decided to close all of her positions. This led her to take a $30k loss but the important thing here is that there is no psychological baggage for her to carry into the new year. Volatility picked up in Februrary and this led to some losses for her ‘farm’ account. However, she was still able to keep her losses to only $1,000 by utilizing day trading to take advantage of the intraday volatility. Rena decided to reduce her account size to ensure that she wasn’t even able to take a huge loss. This size account led her to a ‘death by 1000 cuts’ since she was mainly playing defense instead of playing any offense. After a good conversation with her husband, Rena realized that if she didn’t take any huge blowout losses she could always recover. She is content to take 1-3k losses because she knows she can make that back up. She has now been green the last 6 months after this enlightening moment. Quotes One of the reasons I kept getting back into the market was my son was interested from about the time he was a freshman. I never thought I would be that stupid to max out my account on one bad trade. I got rid of everything I had to start 2018 on a clean slate. The people in the chatroom know way more about my losses than my wins. That’s when I need support. They keep me accountable. Can I make this loss up? Because 99% of the time if I get out with even a 1,000 dollar loss I can make that up. I’ve had a fairly healthy balance with money. I know what it’s like to have money and I know what it’s like to have none. Links Rena’s First Episode: https://claytrader.com/podcast/episode110/
EE Leaders | Leadership Lessons Season 1 Episode 20 - Mentorship This week Pastor Daniel talks with Robby Christmas from Family Church in West Palm Beach, Florida about his ministry with their Church Planting Residency Program. This is a leadership pipeline where guys are trained to be church planters, pastors and ministry leaders and then mobilized in teams and sent out to plant churches. In particular, what role does mentoring have in training leaders and what is the benefit of mentoring others? “A mentor is someone who pours into you what God has poured into them,” often through a mentor of their own. Mentors hold you accountable and speak into your life, seeing things you may not be able to see in yourself. It’s all built on a relationship with that person, on true friendship and trust. It takes time. Engage people and ask people about their own life. Robby shares some great stories of finding a mentor and being a mentor and how it can change your life. Find out more about the Church Planting Residency Program at www.familychurchnetwork.com In this week’s One Piece of Advice, another local pastor, Pastor Andrew Lundy, shares his perspective on mentoring. One Piece of Advice | Have a Mentor Pastor Andrew Lundy, Boca Raton, Florida shares the value of having a coach or a mentor, someone who has walked what you have walked through and is able to walk with you through the challenges and defeats—and the victories, too. Someone to be be a good friend, to remind you of the good news of Jesus. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 4:15, “For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” No one can replace the value of a spiritual father. “I can learn the strategies, read the books, and know the methods but still be a lonely leader, alone in the journey.” We are taught in Proverbs 11:25 that “he who waters, himself will be watered.” As pastors we are in desperate need of the same ministry that we’re giving to others. So make sure you find that friend, that mentor, someone to remind you that your truest identity is that you are a son of God. ___ Quotes: “One of the biggest benefits to having a mentor is to help you see blind spots. No matter what kind of leader you are, you have blind spots. Having a mentor helps you grow in ways you might not know you need to grow.” -Robby Christmas “Relationship equals influence. If you are not connected at the heart level, you’re not going to influence that person.” -Robby Christmas “Mentoring someone takes time.” -Robby Christmas “When we care for others, there is something inside of us that clicks and goes, ‘Wow, that was right, that was the right thing to do.’” -Robby Christmas “If you want to be mentored by someone, first look for someone that loves like Jesus. Then you go out and engage that person. Get on their calendar.” -Robby Christmas “Look for people who are faithful, available and teachable.” -Robby Christmas “The more the leadership skills you’re passing on are reproducible, the more influence they’re going to have because that person can easily pass it on to others.” -Robby Christmas ___ Links: Contact Daniel: daniel@eeleaders.com Leadership Lessons/One Piece of Advice/Blog/Recommended Books: eeleaders.com
It’s with great pleasure that we bring on Fred Claire, former General Manager and Executive Vice-President of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Most notably, Fred orchestrated the 1988 World Series Championship team. He continued his historic run through June of 1998. While Fred (or Mr. Claire as some call him) admits to not having the skill to play baseball, his love for the sport grew into a position – and a 30-year career with the Dodgers. Since then, he’s maintained an active schedule as a columnist and analyst for MLB.com. He also has served as an instructor at the University of Southern California and as a consultant to companies involved in sports. Fred serves on the advisory board for the Sports Management graduate program at California State University, Long Beach and is a lecturer in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Social Services at California Institute of Technology. Fred is a member of the board of directors of the Rose Bowl Operating Company and is also holds board of director positions for the Special Olympics of Southern California; the Los Angeles Sports Council; and Life Skills FORE Pasadena Youth, Inc. Fred is the co-founder of Scoutables, which is revolutionizing the way professional sports organizations manage financial risk around the most valuable financial assets. But what may be more impressive than the numerous business and leadership success Fred has achieved over the years is his recent battle with cancer. At City Of Hope Fred has 28 lymph nodes and nerve endings in his jaw bone removed through surgery followed by 33 radiation treatments and seven rounds of chemotherapy. Fred came out the other side with a new appreciation for the teamwork that it takes to treat cancer, and in Fred-fashion has turned his focus to raising awareness and funds for City Of Hope through the Fred Claire Celebrity Golf Classic. A couple things to listen for in this episode: A controversial decision Fred had to make in the 80’s How the strike of 1994 and a World Series loss changed the MLB What clubhouses, players, and free-agents should think about when it comes to joining a team How his love for the sport (but lack of skill) helped Fred shape a career in the Major League The secret to the Dodgers success If you’re at the end of your athletic career: what you should be thinking about and be doing The one thing you should be thinking about in your sports career A new technology that’s quickly revolutionizing the way sports organizations manage their financial risk Quotes “One game could make a difference.” – Fred Claire “The only thing I wanted to do was do the job I was assigned to do to the best of my ability.” – Fred Claire “The fundamentals of teamwork are the same ingredient in any successful business.” – Fred Claire “The most important aspect you have in business is your integrity.” – Fred Claire “Enjoy every moment, because it will be gone in the blink of an eye.” – Fred Claire “There’s an advantage when the spotlight is on you.” – Fred Claire “When the phone rings. We have a rare case of someone who experienced fool’s gold… but… in a contradictory way, realized and admitted to themselves that their success was actually NOT “skill”, but rather “luck”. Upon this discovery and self admission, where did their journey go from here? Our guest from the community, Angelo, tells us all about the decisions he has made along with the rationale behind them. What I really enjoyed and learned from was you always need to keep your ego in check. Even though Angelo has a college degree in finance, he was still able to see through many potential pitfalls that others commonly fall into. Lots to learn, so let’s go! Notes: Today we interview community member Angelo. While he has a degree in finance, his interest only spanned as far as his mutual funds and 401k. After Robinhood launched, he was intrigued by the no fees which led him to become a much more active investor/trader. A majority of Angelo’s friends were just looking for low priced stocks that they could load up on and hope they went higher. Angelo also falls in the category of finding fools gold to start. The difference is that he recognized that he had been lucky and wasn’t a prodigy. He realized that he didn’t want to continue down the path of inconsistent trading so he decided to invest in his education AND he closed his account so that he would strictly focus on the education first. The pattern day trade rule really hindered Angelo’s short term trading. He once again closed his trading accounts because his situation was suboptimal. He realized that the market will be there in the future so he decided to focus strictly on the courses and paper trade alerts from the community. Angelo still has a few courses to get through but will be considering implementing advanced option strategies so that he can still trade while having a full time job. It is crucial to understand where you are at in your journey and he is not rushing anything. Taking the logical route through training and practice leads to consistent results. Quotes: One of those degrees was in finance. It was mostly looking at my target funds and 401k’s but that changed at the beginning of this year. I was up 2 grand and had no idea why or what happened but I remember feeling pretty good. In the back of my head I knew it was luck. My friend’s thought I was crazy for spending that much money on education. Eight months later, it’s been worth every penny. The big issue I was running into was the PDT rule. It’s the worst thing in the world. It messes with your psychology. I know what I’m willing to risk on each trade so that makes it easier to find what fits your plan versus going wild wild west and wondering.
Jessica talks Customer Service on this episode of Smart Leaders Sell! Jess kicks things off by talking about great customer service and how it creates repeat business. Conversely, she also talks about how an inability to handle customer service requests will absolutely total your business. She lets us in on 3 separate customer service scenarios: one was great, one was terrible, and one was her own customer service mistake! She goes full out in order to help us learn from her mistakes, but also to show us the value of handling our customers with care, and dealing with things in an appropriate manner. She shares the first story about a mail order food service she bought from, and how awesome it was, until an email automation made her feel less valued after making the purchase. She explains what happened, why it made her feel that way, and what she then proceeded to do about it. Jess goes on to share the back and forth email correspondence she shared with an impossible customer service rep who valued being right more than they valued her business, and how it ultimately reflected on her opinion of that business. Jess tells us a process that would help to smooth over a situation life this one, in order to positively impact your customer relations and your business. Jessica shares a second scenario that went quite a bit differently than the first in that it was actually a very pleasant experience. She breaks down the situation and tells us about a transcription service she hired that gave her a couple of files that were not up to standard. Upon leaving feedback, she was contacted by a great customer service rep (named Hugh) and was immediately offered a solution to her problem. Finally Jess talks about her own customer service blunder. While looking through applications to her membership community, she noticed one that had been inadvertently ignored for months! She describes how she went about dealing with the issue, and what she offered to the potentially angry customer in order to smooth over the situation. Quotes “One issue does not lose us a customer is we handle it in the right way” “Sometimes the customer is very very wrong” “As a customer, I didn't feel heard. I didn't feel valued” “If you provide a bad customer service, you can expect to have 5 times as many people to be told about it than if you provide a good customer experience” “It's my company, therefore responsibility lies with me” “Make sure your customers are always leaving with a good taste in their mouth” More Jess: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FabulousFemaleEntrepreneurs/ https://jessicalorimer.com/supersize-your-sales https://jessicalorimer.com/list-building-legend Content Disclaimer The information contained above is provided for information purposes only. We try our best to keep things as “real” as possible on the show, and in this episode I think we do a great job of that given our guest’s strategy. In most instances, the topic of technical charts come up given many in our community use them; however, that’s not the case with fellow member Aaron. There is still lots of fine tuning going on within his strategy, especially in the trade management department, so who knows…. maybe one day charts will find a place. As it stands now, Aarron is looking to improve with each passing week and keep his account in the green. He was open and honest which we can all respect him for. Notes: Today we interview community member Aaron who is relatively new to trading. After realizing he was making next to no return keeping his money in savings, he decided to look into the market. Aaron likes to research sectors and individual companies he believes will have future growth. Considering his 9-5 job, he choose industries and companies in that space that he believes will grow. Something Aaron picked up very early on was that most people who use financial social media are generally unable to accept responsibility for their actions. After watching a few of Clay’s videos and seeing the information conveyed, Aaron decided to join the community. Aaron doesn’t utilize charts to validate his investment choices. He uses the news and fundamental information he comes across. However, he hasn’t bet the farm on any of his trades so even if they were all go to zero, he would be fine. Quotes: One thing I regret is that I haven’t taken a lot of risks in my life. I realized that my money has sat around and done nothing. When there’s a profit to be made, you have to take it. That’s the discipline I have to adhere to. The idea of short manipulation is very misconstrued. It’s like betting against the dice in craps and the odds are reversed. For me, that’s a car payment. Wow that’s a better Christmas for everyone. Don’t be ashamed of profits.
By far one of the hardest things to do as a trader or investor is to follow the rules. Assuming you’ve traded before, I’m sure you can relate to just how hard it can be when real money is on the line. Our guest, Ben, has a great story he shares with us which finds a centralized theme in following the rules vs. not following them. Ben’s journey took him to the edge of almost wanting to give up on trading, but he then discovered another area of the market that re-energized his passion and drive to succeed. After adding in more tools to his toolblet, adhering to the rules and risk management systems became easier and easier. There is no question in my mind that there is at least a few things that we can all relate to in Ben’s story. Notes: Ben’s dad was always interested in economics and the importance of savings. This was something that was taught to Ben at a very young age. While he was deployed overseas, since the market opened up in the afternoon and some other members of his company were trading, Ben started to get involved in long term investments in names he knew. This was unfortunately timed during the market collapse of 2008. Lots of gains can be made in the sub-penny market, however, after he looked into some of the companies, Ben recognized that most of the names moved based on hype versus actual performance or products. While Ben had transitioned back to civilian life, he did start trading after taking Robotic Trading but it became quite clear to him that he didn’t have a clear view of the whole trading process yet. This led him to Claytrader University to learn how to apply all the pieces of puzzle. Ben thought about giving up on trading. He was slightly jaded at these low price low volume stocks but after learning about options, this opened up his opportunities to trade larger and more stable names. A big turning point for him was waiting for a chart pattern to really leap out at him versus just making a pattern out of nothing. Adhering to his risk management principles, this gives him further hope of becoming a full time trader in the future. Right now, trading is supplemental income for him and his family. Good habits can scale which is what he is focusing on. Quotes: One of the guys was big into penny stocks. I was trying to stick with names that I knew. All well known companies. In hindsight, what are you thinking? This isn’t just a bad choice… it’s a very bad choice. (regarding sub-penny stocks) I was up about 20k on a 4-5 thousand dollar investment. Long story short, I broke even. I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to try to be successful without having the capital or understanding clearly what to do. I was kind of ready to give up the whole trading idea. Options can be very profitable if you are disciplined. The chart showed itself and I followed the principles which led to a very successful trade.
Have you ever thought about moving past the solopreneur, one person band, or maybe husband/wife duo business model and build up a team around you? Those of us who have made the leap to hiring a team often only realized that we needed one after nearly working ourselves to death trying to do it all ourselves. Part of the reason is that most of us have absolutely no idea what makes a creative team click or how to hire a team where each member complements the skills and personalities of the others. David Aguilar of Archaius Creative, a SoCal post-productions house, started in the same place as many of us, wearing a ton of hats working first as a filmmaker before moving to a freelance editing role. He quickly realized however the drawbacks of doing it all himself, including backlog, stress, and a resentment of the work he once loved. Since then, David’s put a lot of thought into how to structure and hire a successful creative team, and the post-production house now has a staff of 11. Today he shares with us how he thinks about hiring, his “less is more” approach to both editing and shooting, the test he gives all of his new hires on day one, and a TON more! Are you currently operating as a solopreneur or freelancer, or as a part of a team, including running one yourself? Leave a comment and let us know! In this episode: How to hire to ensure your team works well together as a creative group The importance of knowing the strengths and weaknesses of yourself and your team members The “less is more” approach to shooting and how it can benefit your films How to determine which tasks you should be outsourcing, and how to take the leap into hiring someone on Quotes: “One of the best things we’ve done has been to build people from the ground up. A lot of my first hires had very little to no experience, and now they’re the project managers and really honing in the final product. Really what was more important than editing skill, were some of the intrinsic traits of being humble, moldable, open to critique, and just hungry for always knowing that there’s a better tier of their skill set that they could get to. [7:17] “It’s not about promoting me or my successes. It’s about the team and what we do collectively. My role here is not for the team to push me up, but for me to really elevate them, and provide them resources for how they can best execute their job.” [23:04] Find the original post at: https://studiosherpas.com/category/podcasts

I believe in getting the best quality of any purchase that you can, but don’t do it if you can’t afford it. At some point someone is going to say ‘you know what, you need to pay me back now.’ That’s the type of stuff that keeps me up at night.” “I believe in getting some experience. Whether you work for a small company or big company, just to truly understand every aspect that goes into it. A lot of people go into this industry because they have a product idea.
