Summer Game Fest underwhelmed overall, though Guild Wars 3 reads like a serious MMO contender with no subscription and no battle pass, and the Resident Evil Code Veronica remake got real excitement. With its perfect blend of stunning next-gen visuals, fairy-tale charm, and that classic, self-aware British humor, it has "day-one wishlist" written all over it.Crazy Taxi: World Tour: SEGA's official reveal during the Xbox Showcase was incredible. Bringing back original driver Axel, five massive global city routes, and The Offspring on the soundtrack for a 2027 open-world, multiplayer arcade experience? It's absolute chaotic nostalgia.Exodus: Archetype Entertainment's massive 20-minute gameplay drop proves this sci-fi RPG is carrying the Mass Effect baton beautifully. The time-dilation mechanics and tactical space combat make its early 2027 release a mandatory wishlist spot.Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis: Even with the State of Play announcement delaying it to February 12, 2027, seeing the original 1996 adventure rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 looks spectacular. Xbox's 2026 summer showcase has come and gone! As per usual, it was a relatively strong showing featuring big reveals and welcome surprises, yet it still managed to put up a few big head scratchers. Fortunately, the good outweighed the bad. For starters, the hardcore Xbox community has deeply yearned for the return to exclusivity. After months of lip service, Xbox is taking action by making Gears Of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution console exclusive. Obviously, that leaves us with many questions! Why these two games? What data do they hope to collect from them? Is Xbox appeasing their hardcore community for enough time to help rebuild the base before transitioning to a fully PC ecosystem? Beyond the strategy updates, we have plenty of good games! Halo, State Of Decay, A Plague Tale: Resonance, Persona 6, a new Spryo, Vivarium, and a chockful of other delightful looking games all made their presence felt. Unfortunately, Xbox has decided for what is technically a third year in a row to round out a showcase on a Call Of Duty game. Combined with a predictably lacking performance by Bethesda and the otherwise strong showcase experiences some serious lows. Last, but not least, we got an extended showing for Gears Of War: E-Day. Another one of PlayStation's exclusive franchises is following the trend of replacing its mainstay male protagonist with a woman. In God of War: Laufey, Kratos is out, and you instead will play as his dead wife, Faye. Justin's got the week off, so Seth steps in as co-host and the conversation does not disappoint. Doug and Seth dig into a Reddit question that sent them both deep into the nostalgia rabbit hole: of all the computer games you played between 1985 and 2010, what's the one you still think about today? Seth goes back to the PC port of Final Fantasy VII — the game that defined the RPG genre for a generation of players who couldn't afford a PlayStation — and StarCraft, the game that proved the internet was both a gift and a curse once Korean players started annihilating everyone on Battle.net. Doug lands on Diablo, Counter Strike, Half-Life, and Team Fortress from what he describes as the best summer of his life, plus Warcraft II and the legendary dorm-vs-dorm Counter Strike leaderboard that consumed an entire semester. Seth adds Morrowind and the Halo 2 university network wars, including the top-ranked player named Mixomatosis who turned out to live three doors down and was simply a different kind of person. The gaming conversation rolls naturally into a deep dive on Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, and hero shooter culture — the difference between quick match and competitive, the rage of random teammates, why role-locking exists, and why you absolutely should not be trying out a new character in ranked. But first: Doug's mom has a long history of purging spices from the family pantry, and it explains a lot about his childhood. From there Doug and Seth debate overrated recipes (the dump-and-bake casserole situation has gotten out of hand), wage war over cottage cheese, and discover halloumi together in real time. Underrated picks include millionaire shortbread and candied pecans — two things that deserve far more attention. Plus fair food: dirty, suspect, and somehow perfect. A quick Clair Obscure Expedition 33 check-in leads into the episode's new game: AI or LinkedIn? Doug reads posts and Seth has to guess whether each one is a genuine LinkedIn post or AI generated. The results are both funnier and sadder than expected — especially the guy who timed his lunch at four minutes and 37 seconds because what isn't measured doesn't improve.
