Riding Shotgun With Charlie #173 Jose Morales Philly Firearms Academy My familiarity with Jose Morales' name started years ago. I've always been a fan of the Gun For Hire Radio podcast. The main host, Anthony Colandro (RSWC #003 & 025), would often bring up Jose's name as someone helping with production of the show. Last summer, I was in Detroit for Rick Ector's (RSWC #032) Ladies Event. As I was introducing myself to the other instructors, I met Jose. I kept running through my mind “how do I know his name?” Then it hit me! Gun For Hire Radio! So I went back up and said I knew his name and finally put it together. Like it is meeting with gun people, it felt like old home week. Jose grew up in New York City and said his mother had a gun. At the time he didn't know how difficult it was to get a gun as times were different. He spent 3 years serving in the Army and ended up in Philadelphia. He's had a few careers, of course, doing non-gun stuff, until he decided that after taking several friends shooting, maybe it was time to become an instructor. He traveled to western Pennsylvania to take an instructor course. He's done a ton of training since then. He's an NRA and USCCA Training Counselor in several disciplines, so he's training the trainers. I don't like saying someone is a “training junkie”, but he's trained with many of the best, including Massad Ayoob (RSWC #045), Rob Pincus (RSWC #063), and Tom Givens, among others. Therefore he offers courses at various levels to his clients. Just like other businesses, Jose had a lot of growing to do. He talks about going from range to range with students and trying to find students. As many people have found out, there are ranges they don't want you to bring in your clients or they want half of what you charge to use the range. So, Jose ended up needing a dedicated place for training, which ended up being across the street from where the Philadelphia police issued permits! It was hard to get people to come in. He was near the old Colosimo's Gun Center which had a range he was using. We also cover how often instructors are very territorial with their areas. We get into some interesting points about people and their training. While it shouldn't be a government mandate to require training to get a carry permit, anyone who carries definitely needs training in things like how to carry concealed, when you can use lethal force, and absolutely when you cannot use lethal force. People also need education on what to do in a situation after you've used lethal force. Jose has a great line saying “everyone wants remedial education not preventative education”, meaning that people take classes after they have an eye opening incident. He will get calls from people saying things like they need an “NRA Basic Pistol or the equivalent” which is code for “I'm reading a paper given to me by the police and lost my license”. We had a really good discussion about this topic. The discussion also led to bringing up the terms that the antis use that we have “adopted” and we fall right in line and use them as if they are legit terms. Yes, words have meanings. Jose also shares what it was like to bring an NRA course into a hospital where he had some connections and tried to train and educate people that just because the course says “NRA” doesn't mean the course is evil and preaching an agenda. It's all education and people who are unfamiliar or new to firearms may not want to hear about the NRA due to the bad press the NRA gets from the media. I'm telling you, gun people are the best people! I met Jose at his home in Philly, he offered me some Tastykakes, and we talked like we were old friends. You don't get this from everyone, just from gun people. Favorite quotes: “It's a hobby that became a career.” “I've always found more success collaborating with instructors.” “Sharing the love, and dispelling the stereotypes, and bringing people into the fold.” “We have to use the same tactics. Some of the people that are anti-gun are incessant.” Philly Firearms Academy http://www.phillyguntraining.com/ Philly Firearm Academy Instagram https://www.instagram.com/phillyguntraining/ Philly Firearm Academy https://www.linkedin.com/in/phillyfirearmsacademy/ Gunwise USA http://www.gunwiseusa.com/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters.

The customer's experience is one of the most pivotal aspects of creating a successful business. It's even more important for entrepreneurs within the fitness industry. But for today's guest, it's about so much more than business- it's about family. Today, Jose Morales shares with us his journey from a job in sales to taking a huge risk and starting his own gym. Something that he never thought that he'd do. Just like boxing, his entrepreneurial journey has been a fight. But there is no doubt that he's the kind of entrepreneur who's doing it right. ABOUT JOSE MORALES Jose is a veteran of 58 amateur boxing bouts and first began training boxers in 2006, working with adults and teenagers. He strives to help members stay healthy, lose weight, compete, build confidence, or simply learn the science of boxing. Jose works with a variety of clients – from 4-year-olds to 70-year-olds, average Joes, blue-collar, soccer moms, troubled teens, honor roll kids, amateur boxers, professional boxers, school teachers, and everything in between. He operates from the belief that it doesn't take a special kind of person to learn how to box, all it takes is the will to learn and the passion to push through the challenges. Jose Morales - Impact Apparel Moved to Amarillo about a year ago, leaving Odessa and the oilfield. He started his business after 7 months of saving. IMPACT means leaving a legacy, having an impact in this world. Success is about learning, growing, and becoming better every day. Life is about the little improvements you make on a daily basis. Most people would rather argue about their limitations instead of accept that there are no limitations. Jose is continuously learning from as many people as he can. The person I look up to is the person I am becoming. When you look toward the future, you find the custom-made self you desire to become. When you are absolutely certain about who you are and where you’re going, the world around you conforms to you. You get to choose whether or not to listen to the negativity in your life. Jose is motivated by his desire to keep his passion in front of him. I consume content so I have more to offer the people around me. Jose’s advice is to just go for it. Don’t hesitate! Patrick Behan is a veteran living in Davie, Florida. He has a very compelling story and awareness needs to be raised for our veterans in the community in crisis. This episode talks about his personal story, how we can help our military community at home and ways we can work together to ensure that we never leave our brothers, sisters and family members behind or feeling like they are forgotten in America. A community cleanup project took place at the home of Patrick and the following community leaders assisted with this project: Steve Armentrout Jimmy (The Redneck) Barton Jose Morales Tako SICKASSO President from Boots on the Ground Bikers for Trump Rocco Marucci Paul Pappas Tako Sickasso and Jose Morales agreed to be interviewed, with Patrick to share their experiences and why they want to help not only this veteran, but countless others in America. Tako Sickasso: First of all I want to thank you for your service and then I want to thank you for helping us help one of our fellow veterans. I go by the nickname Tako, I am a custom motorcycle builder/fabricator. What sets me apart from most builders out there is not just having a great imagination on building custom bikes , but following through and building what I consider to be metal art! My company is called Game Changer Customs.( www.Game Changer Customs.com) I love what I do and always strive to be the best and set myself apart from others. I consider my work to be art! My most famous build with over 3.1 million views in just under two weeks on Facebook was my “Trumpinator” A Trump tribute bike for who I and many consider to be the greatest President ever. President Donald J. Trump. And for many years I have been a personal bodyguard, but what is most important to me is the many great deeds I have not only been involved in but also started. With numerous fundraisers and the much charity work that I have done. The great deeds are not for recognition but from my heart to help many sick, injured, week and forgotten! I have always fought the bullies that take advantage of the weak and helpless. I back down from no fight that I believe in weather it’s mine or someone else’s. I have many wonderful friends that have been there through these great deeds of kindness and compassion. On this particular deed one of my closest friends for over 30 + year’s , Jimmy (The Redneck) Barton, Brought to my attention this great hero Sergeant Patrick Behan. Not only a 10 + year’s army veteran and explosives expert (E.O.D.) but also a former lieutenant in the Fire dept. that was in N.Y. pulling many of our citizens out of the rubble during the attacks on our freedom and American values. At the Twin towers. Having seen many brothers, sisters and civilians from those attackslose their lives. Once his work was done there, his love of country after the attacks were enough to make him re-enlist in the army. He has dedicated his life to serve and protect. This great man and veteran like many others have been forgotten by our system but not by us. Today was just the beginning of letting him know how much we appreciate his commitment to serve and protect. It is always an honor to to help those that feel they have been forgotten or unappreciated. This is what we do! God bless all our HEROS All-this is done not for fame or recognition but to pay it forward! These policies make the sharing and open access principles of DevOps that much harder to apply. In this podcast, SEI researchers Hasan Yasar and Jose Morales discuss the process, challenges, approaches, and lessons learned in implementing DevOps in the software development lifecycle in HREs.

'Tis the summer of Despacito... There’s this music club/performance space/art space in Santurce, Puerto Rico called La Respuesta, that mostly presents the local indie rock scene. I learned about La Respuesta in 2008 when I was down in the island for a season working publicity for several local films. One of the films, La Mala needed a place for a party and my friend Nadia Barbarossa, who was part of the film’s producers team told me about it. So I called the owner, the guy that everyone called Fofito, and asked him for a date to go see the place for a possible rental. I still remember the first impression. He was dry, serious, and straight to the point which made me love him on the spot because he didn’t waste my time with bullshit talk. So La Respuesta was rented for La Mala’s premiere party where the lovely and amazing Lena Burke played the piano and sang her heart out. Since then he and I have been buddies. I stopped calling him Fofito. He is Jose to me, without the accent on the “e”. I like it more than his nickname. Jose is a father of two kids he adores and it’s not just talk. Jose loves music and it’s not just talk. Jose loves Puerto Rico and it’s not just talk. Some people say he’s cantankerous. I say he’s a lovable cantankerous character and if it weren’t for him many emerging artists in San Juan would have virtually nowhere to perform. For that, I love him yet again. For several years now he’s been commuting between New York and Puerto Rico and producing programming for La Marqueta Retoña. In 2015, Remezcla included him in a “Top 10 List” . Finally, after about two years of crossed schedules he came over for lunch last Friday and helped me hang paintings in my new apartment, get plants, and out of the blue, I decided to record an on-the-spot conversation. So this Spanish podcast episode 55 has upper west Bronx sounds. But it’s a real from-the-heart conversation with a guy that’s worked hard to make a living in the arts and culture sphere, in the music scene sphere, and with and for Puerto Rican musicians and visual artists. La Respuesta’s wall facing Avenida Fernández Juncos is a space for murals…this is now. #LaRespuesta #Santurce #PuertoRico #Artists #Music #IndieRock #NFAND

Jose Morales discusses mobile device security enhancements with defensive and offensive uses.
Every day, major anti-virus companies and research organizations are inundated with new malware samples. Although estimates vary, approximately 150,000 new malware strains are released each day. Not enough manpower exists to manually address the volume of new malware samples that arrive daily in analysts' queues. Malware analysts need an approach that allows them to sort samples in a fundamental way so they can assign priority to the most malicious binary files. In this podcast, Jose Morales, a malicious software researcher with the CERT Division, discusses an approach for prioritizing malware samples, helping analysts to identify the most destructive malware to examine first, based on the binary file's execution behavior and its potential impact.
