What can one say about Rogue One that hasn't already been said. Releasing almost a year after The Force Awakens, anticipation was high for the franchise's first theatrical spinoff attempt. Nowadays I can't remember if going into the theater, everyone knew the story would be about how the rebels managed to steal the plans for the Death Star. I seem to remember the plot to the DOOM clone Dark Forces involved kidnapping the character General Nadine (who would be seen on screen for the first time in a terrible fake beard in Return of the Jedi). I'm most likely wrong but, I vaguely remember that the reason Kyle Katarn kidnaps Nadine is because he's the one Imperial who defects and helps the fledgling alliance steal the plans in the first place. Kyle Katarn is also the first character in the Star Wars Universe to utilize the now legendary Bryar Pistol that Cassian Andor also carries as his sidearm. The impetus for the film originates in a throw away line in A New Hope. We all know Leia hides the plans for the Death Star in R2-D2 but, we never learn how she came to acquire them until now. We learn the weakness in the Death Star was a design flaw engineered by it's captive creator Galen Erso portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen. Excellent performance by an excellent actor who at this point in his career, has portrayed more villains than heroes. Here he does a great job and with the death of wife Lyra, his character has all the motivation he needs to plot his revenge over the twenty plus years of construction of the deadliest weapon every conceived. I think by far everyone's favorite character ending up being K-2SO portrayed by Alan Tudyk. Even though he's portraying a droid, there was more humanity in the lines delivered by Tudyk's motion capped performance than the rest of cast combined. Of course it was also really cool to see Darth Vader in a movie other than the the original trilogy. James Earl Jones does a great job with his limited lines. Director Krennic portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn also does a fantastic job portraying an evil character. I think it was Chris Stuckmann who really loved how Mendelsohn chewed the scenery and went FULL EVIL VILLAIN in the scenes he was in. Well done to the casting director that hired him. My favorite scene was of course the naval battle at the end. Especially when Admiral Raddus notices the disabled Star Destroyer and uses Hammerhead Corvette to ram it which then turn it into a giant needle to pierce through the planetary shield protecting Scarif. Awesome sequence! I loved every second of it. Thank you for listening to this Special Edition of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. Discussion Guide: 00:00 - Hello there! 04:00 - Grindalids 15:12 - Han starts with a Hail Mary, but when he starts to achieve success, his music grows more confident. 16:22 - John Williams wrote a couple variations of Han's theme to reflect his different states. 22:18 - How do contemporary Star Wars composers balance between being authentic and emulating John Williams? 29:24 - On Solo drama, leaks, news, public discourse in 2018. 35:05 - Is this a violin sul D or sul G in "Corellia Chase"? 48:51 - The dice. 55:59 - Silent world building during the Corellia Chase. We fly through all these set pieces showing us Imperial checkpoints, TIE fighters on an assembly line, etc. 1:02:39 - Hint of the Star Wars Main Theme... and what it may represent. 1:08:30 - John Powell getting a lot of mileage out of the John Williams themes. 1:12:46 - Emotional taskmaster of the movies. 1:20:11 - SWMM Questionnaire Things to Check Out: Kyle Katarn's previous episode on Star Wars Music Minute: https://youtu.be/WMtZhUZnINM John Powell posted the score video to "1m4-5 Corellia Chase" on his YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/gwxKd0BU4ew John Powell shared a video from the scoring session for "Corellia Chase" - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2055945587962066 Themes: 2b. In exactly 3 words, what does Star Wars sound like? Epic. Exotic. Alive. Pewpew! Brrrrrr! Pppphufff! (rough transcription of Kyle's sound effects...) 2. What's something related to Star Wars music or sound that you want to learn more about? The process of crafting new sounds to represent species or technologies. What parameters or instructions are sound designers given? Is it like "I want it to sound wibbly wobbly" or something subjective like that? 3. What's a score or soundtrack you're fond of besides anything Star Wars? Kingdom of Heaven (composed by Harry Gregson-Williams) Bonus Question: What would you encourage listeners to pay more attention to on their next viewing of Solo? Pay attention to what's going on in the background during fast-paced moments like the chase, because there are a lot of important world building information, Easter eggs, and references to other Star Wars media that can be found. When the Rebellion needs someone to infiltrate behind Imperial lines, they call Kyle Katarn. Hear how Kyle and Jan Ord steal the plans to the Death Star and thwart the Dark Jedi Jerec in the Dark Forces trilogy.
The Praetorian Guards aren't messing around, and neither is John Williams! Joining me today is Kyle Katarn. Together, we attempt to break down the sensational combat scoring, sound design, and awkward aftermath in minutes 106-110 of The Last Jedi. Discussion topics/Highlights: The music feels suspended in air before the first lightsaber clash. John Williams's music is just as well choreographed as the fight. Rey's theme is stated in a steady, declarative rhythm. DJ's line "they blow you up today, you blow them up tomorrow" might be a Battlefront II reference (specifically an attack scenario from Starfighter Assault map called Unknown Regions). Proficiency of lightsaber fighting and how the Force is involved. Praetorian guards! Their weapons, levels of articulation in the armor, family relationships. John Williams's exciting combat scoring. Rather than an "aggressive dance," it sounds more disorienting, like a "horn section falling down the stairs." Comparisons to Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, etc. The sound of Kylo Ren's lightsaber when he impales a guard and the crackling is going through his body. Kyle Katarn's favorite lightsaber sound in the saga is Luke Skywalker's green lightsaber in Return of the Jedi (specifically the sharp, piercing snap-hiss of the ignition) Awkward aftermath and "the talk." The musical silence while Rey and Kylo are talking heightens the intimacy of the scene. Kylo Ren's insecure, vulnerable, desperate manipulation. Kylo's "hesitant," meandering theme. How the music underscores Kylo and Rey's discordant aims. They're a dyad moving in opposite directions. Determined, purposeful music when Holdo gears up to take action. Come one, come all, canon or legends, we ask the age old question, "is 'Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy' a game for a busy gamer?" and we join Luke Skywalker, Kyle Katarn, and Max Goof in their adventures a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Use force grip on your podcasting device and force heal by forcing yourself to listen to our first episode of the year. We also go into the great debate of "Who likes the term 'Dark Jedi'?" and establish a nice little head canon for all you nerds. This is the gaming podcast for anyone who wants to revisit jka or check out what to play after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Enjoy our imperial, I mean, empirical review of this cult classic. Star Wars: Hope’s Dawn It is a time of uncertainty for the Rebellion. With the destruction of the Death Star, many in the Galaxy expected the victories to continue, yet Darth Vader and the Empire have retaliated with the full force of the enigmatic Emperor behind them. Throughout the galaxy, the remaining Rebel forces wage war with the enemy, necessitating the use of refueling stations in system after system to ensure the war effort can continue. Set at the outskirts of the fight is a vital but ordinary station, Hope’s Dawn. Though rarely visited by the Rebellion’s ships, the crew remains conscious that the enemy is closing in on them. They maintain constant watch at the edges of their system, patrolling every corner for the first sign of the Empire. . . Jaden, Conner, and Lawerence explore the tumultuous life of Jaden Korr, from his upbringing on Coruscant to his years training under the legendary Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker. This is an [Expert] level episode, which means some parts of the discussion may not make sense unless you’ve played the game. Expect lots of spoilers.

Con el escuadrón Rancor One al completo: Fernando Martínez, Francisco Cantó (alias Pacoto), José María Arosa, Benjamín Bruña, Jon Ander Mata y Ángel Rodríguez, con Paco Villa y Josemi dirigiendo el Ala U. In honor of Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor possibly being the new EU's analog for Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors (that's definitely who they are, let's be real), the Skyhoppers spend this week talking about everyone's favorite Rebel agents, the aforementioned Kyle and Jan! There's the hope that this isn't just an episode about the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, but seeing as how that series makes of the majority of their appearances, that hope might be misguided. Amy, Bryan, and Mike were joined by Tyler Westhause, formerly of Rebel Force Radio, to talk of many things. After sharing his first experiences with Star Wars, Tyler then helped the crew discuss Kyle Katarn and his allure in light of Rogue One coming out, and the chain of title for the Moldy Crow. Then, the group discusses the last couple of episodes of Star Wars Rebels, raising some intriguing questions about how it might tie into Rogue One which is now less than a month away. We have a big cast to finish out our look at Return of the Jedi. Jordan, Craig, Jim, Darrell, Russ and Glenn all chime in on the movie. Topics include Shadows of the Empire, the Jedi Academy and EU novels, Kyle Katarn, Spacehunter: Adventure in the Forbidden Zone in 3D and the 80's 3D craze. It was a great finish. Until we cover The Force Awakens.
