March 1st marks the anniversary of the US backed 2004 coup vs Haiti's first democratically elected government under Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Aristide was ousted in the 2004 coup after right-wing ex-army paramilitaries invaded the country from across the Dominican border. The United States helped orchestrate the coup against him. Aristide was later forced into exile in the Central African Republic and South Africa. The tactics that were used to remove Aristide from power twice are almost identical to the ones being used against Venezuela's Maduro today. Today 19 years later, Haiti continues to be destabilized under de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry, the country is facing a resurfacing of cholera and an uptick in gang crime. We speak to organizers on the ground in Haiti to hear their perspectives: including Edouard “Pacha” Vorbe, founder and co-director of Fanmi Lavalas. Since 1998, Pacha Vorbe has been an active member of Fanmi Lavalas, the political organization headed by former President Jean Bertrand Aristide and supported by the vast majority of impoverished people in Haiti. As well as Pierre Labossiere, one of the most respected progressive voices on Haitian politics. Pierre Labossiere has dedicated his entire adult life advocating for the working poor in Haiti. Through the Haiti Action Committee, an organization that he co-founded, Labossiere has tirelessly championed grassroots efforts to improve education, bring about social justice, and develop a stable democracy for the people of his native country.

Prior to 2021, former members of Canadian rock band The Mailman's Children joined forces with other artists to record 23 original songs. At the top of 2021, the newly formed Pop Rock band surfaced as Hello Fiasco.Hello Fiasco is considered Canadian-American because its frontman Eric LaBossiere (born Canadian) lives in Helena, Montana (USA). The rest of the band lives in Winnipeg, including Joel Couture (bass), Joel Perreault (lead guitars/backing vocals), Ivan Burke (drums), and Guy Abraham (keys/Ableton/backing vocals). Since its official release this summer, the band's debut album "Find The Shoreline" has earned 3,000,000 streams, and been placed on over 6,000 Spotify playlists. The album's first single, “Hold Me Close” has earned 700,000 streams, and 190,000 views on the official YouTube video, and the song is currently receiving XM, terrestrial, internet, Cable and TV radio airplay in over 25 countries. The album itself was co-produced by both LaBossiere and award-winning producer John Paul Peters (Propagandhi, Comeback Kid, Faouzia, Cancer Bats, Begonia). Notably, the album was mastered by American Grammy-winning engineer Randy Merrill of Sterling Sound (Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, Muse, Bieber, Adele, Lady Gaga). Because the band prides itself on coming from the side of Pop Rock where the quality of lyrics, music and originality still stands for something, HF has been compared to Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and David Bowie. HF's first performances include a sold-out headlining show at Canada's renowned Festival du Voyageur, as well as an opening slot for The Watchmen, I Mother Earth and Bif Naked at Winnipeg's Burt Block Party. The band is currently in the process of scheduling its first North American tour dates for 2023. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Tried and Tested Advice: Be more practical, allow more skepticism, design your business strategically, and be more reflective rather than bulldozing ahead - or giving up too soon. Chris's companies are more than just a sku, they are here to serve LEARNERS. They go above and beyond in providing licensing courses and exams by offering things entrepreneurs really need to know – which is a lot more than most (and more importantly, their competitors). What are the steps they went through to discover their own brand? Chris believes that vision, values, personality, and authenticity are key drivers to a solid brand that builds success. There is so much ‘fake news' online and we have become highly tuned to in-authenticity. Being purely transactional won't build a legacy brand. Today on Sojourner Truth we bring you a special hour on Haiti. The New York Times recently published an expose on Haiti making it the first time a mainstream media outlet covers the 2004 coup of former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide as U.S.-led with the complicity of France and Canada, carried out after Aristide demanded restitution from France for the funds where the descendants of enslaved people paid reparations (“independence debt”) to the descendants of their masters — for generations. We speak to KPFA Flashpoints journalist Kevin Pina about those on the left in Haiti that helped lay the foundation for the coup but also objected to Jamaica providing Aristide with refuge following the coup. And we delve into who Jean Aristide was during his days as a priest and his connection with the long history of the Haitian people's struggle for freedom, with our guest Pierre Labossiere. Labossiere is co-founder of the Haiti Action Committee, an organization that champions grassroots efforts to improve education, bring about social justice, and develop a stable democracy for the people of Haiti.

Welcome back, listeners! It's Season 4 of Owning Up! First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Now, let's jump right in! In this season, Moni wanted to bring on guests who influence the community and are dreamers, makers, doers, believers, bold and bravely creating the career of their dreams. This podcast is here to support military spouse business owners. Our guest this week is Mary-Catherine LaBossiere. She is a registered dietitian and is the CEO and creator of Defy Nutrition. Her goal is to help people with a very specific relationship - food. She shares her story of why she started this journey and business in this podcast. Some takeaways from this episode: Her journey began as a competitive athlete in middle school, followed by the loss of her mother. In high school, she lost her mother to cancer, which was the catalyst for where she is now. She wanted to be on the prevention and advocacy side of medicine and stop labeling people by weight. She received her Bachelor's Degree as a Registered Dietician then her Master's in Public Health. She was considered obese at one point and then developed an eating disorder. She realized that healthcare professionals don't always listen or meet patients where they are at on their journey. She was rigid with some things at one point, but she's learned to be more flexible and aligned to meet her client's needs. She used AMSE resources to grow her business, leading to where she is now. She loves the connections and friends she's met as an AMSE member. Community means so much to her and adds value to her life. She is currently serving AMSE members as an AMSE coach. What is the biggest barrier when it comes to dieting? According to a registered dietitian and the owner of Defy Nutrition, Mary-Catherine, it's our very strict lifestyle with food. From a young age, we are taught to associate food with good and bad things. She believes that it is possible to have a good relationship with food, without guilt. Mary-Catherine is a registered dietitian and the owner of Defy Nutrition. She started her career working while simultaneously earning her Master's in Public Health. Helps people repair their relationships with food and learn how to eat like humans again. She is passionate about making nutrition easy, fun, and sustainable. In her free time, she loves being active and exploring the outdoors with her husband and their dogs. Tune into this week's episode of "Deeper than the Diet" to hear more about the barriers and structures of diets, how Mary-Catherine's view on mental and physical health has changed as she grew older, and the importance of challenging your food beliefs.Quotes:The biggest barrier is that we find comfort in this very strict lifestyle. One is either doing it or we're not doing it. And from a young age, we assign moral values to food. (07:22-7:30)Going through all these issues with body image it came down to what does my body look like and what does the scale say. And now, I encourage my clients to throw away the scale. Let's focus instead on how do you feel, how's your energy level, and how are your clothes fit. And really focusing on those aspects instead of those absolute numbers. (11:49-12:16) "Growing up with mental health meant you had an issue. Now mental health is how are you supporting your emotional wellbeing. It's not just a disease, but how are you being proactive and supporting your wellbeing." (12:36-12:49)"I love helping those people to understand how do we rewire your brain. Basically undo everything that has been done by diet culture and rewire it moving forward." (14:00-14;11)"(food) Doesn't have to be your enemy. You can come to a place where you're not always intimidated or feeling guilty about food. And that place is so rewarding." Today on Sojourner Truth: In the context of the trial of the police officer who is being charged with the murder of George Floyd, the lack of justice in the case of the police killing of Breonna Taylor and other Black people killed by police, as well as the attacks on voting rights, specifically targeting Black people, across the country, Black communities and other communities of color are facing another battle: gentrification. Long time residents are being forced out by high housing costs and are being replaced by higher-income residents. That battle is playing itself out in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, New York City, where a local supermarket favored by residents is being evicted. Our guest is Alicia Boyd with the Movement To Protect The People. Her organization works to give people back their voices and their power in their community. The Movement To Protect The People is active in struggles against gentrification, environmental devastation and imposed poverty. Yet another massacre in Haiti, orchestrated by a group that many say has ties to the U.S.-backed government of Jovenel Moise. Protesters say Moise is serving illegally as Haiti's President. Will this be enough to get the Biden administration to stop backing the government of Haiti? Our guest is Pierre Labossiere, one of the most respected progressive voices on Haitian politics. Pierre has dedicated his entire adult life advocating for the working poor in Haiti. Through the Haiti Action Committee, an organization that he co-founded, Labossiere has tirelessly championed grassroots efforts to improve education, bring about social justice, and develop a stable democracy for the people of his native country. For our weekly Earth Watch, environmental expert Ed Russo joins us to discuss the GE Mosquito Project. He served as CEO of Watergen USA, President of the Florida Keys Environmental Coalition, Member of the Board of Directors of Reef Relief, Member of the Monroe County Climate Change Advisory Board, Member of the Board of Directors of the College of the Florida Keys Foundation, and Member of the Planning Board of the City of Key West. He is a member of the Board of Pilot Commissioners, the State of Florida. Also, an update on the trial of Derek Chauvin, the white police officer who murdered George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 2020.

Today on Sojourner Truth: In the context of the trial of the police officer who is being charged with the murder of George Floyd, the lack of justice in the case of the police killing of Breonna Taylor and other Black people killed by police, as well as the attacks on voting rights, specifically targeting Black people, across the country, Black communities and other communities of color are facing another battle: gentrification. Today on Sojourner Truth: It seems police killings of Black people is unending from Michael Brown to Breonna Taylor to George Floyd. Donald Trump visited Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, September 1. He made no mention of the name of Jacob Blake, the man shot seven times in the back by Kenosha Police. Instead, he focused on his law and order message, blaming the uprising following Blake's shooting not on community outrage at systemic racism in law enforcement, but instead he blamed the community itself for destroying property, which he calls violence. In terms of policing in the U.S., he said there were a few bad apples, sidestepping the charge of systemic racism. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles on Monday August 31, sheriff deputies killed a 29-year-old Black man Dijon Kizzee, who was shot in the back reportedly 20 times. This, two months after the sheriffs department (which is notorious for having violent internal gangs and for extreme use of force and corruption) killed 18-year-old Andres Guardado, a Latinx security guard. For our Campaigners for Black Lives series, we speak with Joseph Williams, a Core Team Member of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles. He is also the Director of Operations and Campaigns with Students Deserve, a grassroots organization of students, teachers, and parents working for justice in and beyond schools. The ongoing terror against the Haitian people by paramilitary operations linked to the U.S.-backed Haitian government of Jovenel Moise. Journalists have been assassinated and innocent civilians tortured and killed in this most recent spate of violence on the island nation. We speak with Haitian human rights campaigner Pierre Labossiere, who is with the Haiti Action Committee. We begin our occasional coverage of the movement for the environment and human rights in Thailand. Our guest is Pranom Somwong, a Thailand based representative of Protection International.

As new agents, it's critical to build momentum and generate business using the resources we already have. How can we authentically and effectively use our center of influence? How can we nurture our database? How can social media help us remain visible and relevant? In this episode, Dusty LaBossiere explains how the majority of his business comes from referrals and warm connections, and what we can do to become top producing agents. Any agent who really wants to develop their sphere of influence should do so through passive advertising and staying top of mind through social media. -Dusty LaBossiere Takeaways + Tactics We need to be highly organized and advertise ourselves in an authentic, regular and intentional way in order to nurture our database. New real estate agents who don’t have a lot of money to spend on advertising need to be consistently top of mind through social media. If you don’t have someone’s attention, you don’t have a shot at their business. If you have good relationships and are a likeable person, and you mix that with good work ethic and a good level of service, people will naturally gravitate towards you and want to work with you. On this episode we discussed how we can generate more business from our centre of influence, and Dusty Labossiere explains how he turned his life around and became the top individual producer at Century 21 Results, Atlanta. We also discussed: How to effectively nurture our database Why new agents need to use social media for business growth What we need for people to want to work with us As a new agents we can get ourselves out there and build our database by using social media as well as our centre of influence. When using social media to reach potential clients, we need to be authentic, consistent and intentional. Being authentic in our professional and personal life and building relationships with people helps us grow and retain our sphere of influence. When we combine this with the underlying foundation of delivering good service, we can provide real value to people and generate more business. Guest Bio- Dusty LaBossiere is the Founder of the LaBoss Group and is a top producing individual agent of Century 21 Results, Atlanta. He was born and raised in Metro-Atlanta and is intimately in-tune with the ins and outs of his hometown market. In an industry that's constantly evolving, Dusty has a proven track record of providing outstanding client service regardless of who he is representing. In 2018, Dusty was Top Producer as individual agent out of 220+ agents at his brokerage. Century 21 Results was named #7 most productive C21 office nationwide. In the short three years he has been a full-time realtor, he has become the most productive agent at one of the most productive C21 offices in the country. 404.750.9236 https://www.facebook.com/DustyLaBossiere

From the transcript of Aldous Huxley's 1962 speech The Ultimate Revolution: "It seems to me that the nature of the ultimate revolution with which we are now faced is precisely this: That we are in process of developing a whole series of techniques which will enable the controlling oligarchy who have always existed and presumably will always exist to get people to love their servitude. This is the, it seems to me, the ultimate in malevolent revolutions shall we say, and this is a problem which has interested me many years and about which I wrote thirty years ago, a fable, Brave New World, which is an account of society making use of all the devices available and some of the devices which I imagined to be possible making use of them in order to, first of all, to standardize the population, to iron out inconvenient human differences, to create, to say, mass produced models of human beings arranged in some sort of scientific caste system. Since then, I have continued to be extremely interested in this problem and I have noticed with increasing dismay a number of the predictions which were purely fantastic when I made them thirty years ago have come true or seem in process of coming true." “There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.” Aldous Huxley Peace Revolution Episode 023: How to Free Your Mind / The Occulted Keys of Wisdom_Transcript Peace Revolution partner podcasts: Corbett Report dot com Media Monarchy dot com Gnostic Media Podcast School Sucks Project Podcast Meria dot net Other productions by members of the T&H network: Top Documentary Films dot com: Hijacking Humanity by Paul Verge (2006) Top Documentary Films dot com: Exposing the Noble Lie (2010) Top Documentary Films dot com: The Pharmacratic Inquisition by Jan Irvin (2007) THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Congratulations, the latest from hipster-darlings MGMT, is a record that deserves nothing of the sort, according to at least two of us.
Vampire Weekend's first record was all that. Is their second record all that too, or is it all this?
