How many women have decided not to have more children after a traumatic birth? The UK's first inquiry into traumatic childbirth has found that too often poor care is normalised, with devastating effects on women's mental and physical health. Nuala McGovern talks to one Woman's Hour listener who decided she couldn't face having another child after a traumatic birth, and to the author of the report, Dr Kim Thomas, about its recommendations. Journalist Decca Aitkenhead regularly sleepwalks. She talks to Nuala about her night-time escapades which include finding herself locked out in the middle of the night, eating food she'd find disgusting when awake and incredible strength that has seen her smash furniture to pieces. She's joined by neurologist and sleep expert Prof Guy Leschziner who explains what's going on in our brains when we sleepwalk, and how women are affected. New analysis from the TUC, the Trades Union Congress, says that more than 1.5 million women have dropped out of the workforce because of long-term sickness. The figure marks a 48% increase compared with five years ago. Nicola Smith, Head of Economics at the TUC, tells Nuala McGovern what may be stopping women from returning to work. Award-winning playwright and actor Lolita Chakrabarti discusses her new Radio 3 play, Calmer. All about motherhood and chaos, it follows three generations of ultra-successful women in one family - but their lives are not as ‘good' as they appear on paper.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Olivia Skinner

Today's episode is a deep dive into urban and housing development with Nicola Smith, an accomplished urban and regional planner and director of Niche Planning Studio. Expertly navigating the current rental crisis and mortgage stress, she unveils the key factors that have steered us to our current housing crisis. Nicola breaks down terms like green field and brown field, highlighting their significant role in housing development. Together we strategise on how to generate more housing in established areas, promoting affordability, and diversifying our housing types.Steering the conversation towards government policies, Nicola and I scrutinise their town planning and housing development strategies. We dissect the implications of the policy that earmarks 70% of growth for the inner city and the remaining 30% for the green fields. How will this affect the citizens of established areas? We further delve into the complexities of rejuvenating inner city areas, the potential for overlooking amenity impacts, and the advantages of home-building in green field regions. Nicola then shares her valuable insights on challenges surrounding housing affordability and service accessibility in Melbourne. We mull over the government's strategic planning efforts and the use of developer contributions in the face of a pressing need for affordable housing. We also explore the cost of apartment living, the possibility of converting offices into residences, and the often overlooked factor of embodied carbon in building construction. Join us as we unravel the convolutions of Australia's housing market, the struggle for affordable housing, and the impact of 'NIMBYism' (Not in my backyard) on planning and development.Contact The Room Xchange Tweet us at @theroomxchange and @LudwinaDautovic Share a story on instagram @theroomxchange Email us at admin@theroomxchange.com Please leave us a reviewClick here for Apple reviewsConnect on our socialsYoutube | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Linkedin Sign up on our websitewww.theroomxchange.com
Welcome to a special episode of Doing the Opposite: Business Disruptors – a panel discussion with innovative business leaders. Today, Jeff Dewing is joined by Nicola Smith who is Interim CEO at Timewise, an organisation championing flexible working and equality in the workplace. Simone Roche MBE is founder of Northern Power Women, a community spanning all sectors, genders and socio-economic groups that is dedicated to accelerating gender equality and social mobility. And Sheila Callaham is a co-founder, Executive Director, and Board Chair for Age Equity Alliance who are committed to helping businesses, organisations, and communities ensure Age Equity in the workplace through education, training, and process evaluation. There's no denying that Covid changed the way we all work, forcing many businesses to adopt remote working in a way they may not have done otherwise. But now the pandemic has passed, what legacy is left on the way we operate as businesses and employees. The culture of work has shifted, and employees considering roles are much more focussed on the flexibility around work than they were previously. The panel discuss how businesses need to adapt to be more accommodating, supportive and flexible in order to continue to attract talent and sustain growth. Furthermore, flexible working isn't only about location. It's about how you work, when you work and what's expected of you. Nicola argues that so long as there are clear and reasonable expectations with buy-in from all stakeholders then often the logistics of how or when work is done shouldn't be a consideration. Not all roles can be fully flexible. The panel discuss how businesses can avoid a two-tier workforce emerging, creating separation between the flexible and non-flexible workers. Some work may be time or location specific. How do you avoid those staff feeling like they're missing out on a more flexible role? Sheila suggests that companies can compensate for that through the policies and programmes and benefits that they offer. As ongoing controversies over commercial sex attest, the relationship between capitalism and sexuality is deeply contentious. Economic and sexual practices are assumed to be not only separable but antithetical, hence why paid sex is so often criminalized and morally condemned. Yet, while sexuality is highly politicized in moral terms, it has largely been overlooked in the discipline devoted to the study of global capitalism, international political economy (IPE). Likewise, the prevailing field in sexuality studies, queer theory, has frequently sidelined questions of political economy. Nicola J. Smith's Capitalism's Sexual History (Oxford UP, 2020) calls for critical scholarship to challenge the dichotomy as it not only structures disciplinary debates but is part and parcel of capitalism itself. By exposing the historical mechanisms through which the economy/sexuality dichotomy has been constituted, the book opens up new space for critical inquiry into the intersections between sex, work, and economic and sexual injustice. Nicola Smith is senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham, and a political economist working on feminist and queer theory, neoliberalism and austerity, sex work and reproductive labour, and the history of the British body politic. Getting the opportunity to talk to Higher Dimensional Beings sounds like it would only be available in your dreams. My client and friend, Stacey Anderson, has an incredible gift where she does just that. She joins me today to talk about her spiritual awakening and what it’s like channelling these Higher Divine Beings. About Stacey Anderson Stacey Anderson is a spiritual healer and channeller. She is blessed to have the ability to receive messages and guidance from various beings in the spirit world. I speak light language which speaks to your soul and raises your vibration. Not only that, Stacey helps remove energy blocks that are holding you back and does aura cleanses. It's her absolute passion in life to remind people that we are so much more than our physical bodies. We are love and light at the core of our being and the more we remember this and let go, the better the experience we will have here on earth. About Channelling Higher Dimensional Beings Stacey has a very unique and wonderful gift. She can channel Higher Dimensional Beings, meaning these powerful entities and spiritual guides use her body as a vessel and actually speak through her. Stacey explains what it feels like when one of these Higher Powers is using her this way. I’ve personally had experiences with Stacey channelling for me and honestly, it is lifechanging. The connection I feel to the Divine after our sessions and the clarity I have are incredible. Stacey shares how some of her other clients have felt after one of these experiences with her. For Stacey, going through a spiritual awakening was not an easy process. In fact, she almost thought she was losing her mind! So if you’re feeling this way, Stacey wants to urge you to keep pushing through this awakening to see the blessings on the other side. And that you are definitely not crazy. Stacey shares what it was like for her to go through her spiritual awakening. Everyone’s experience is a bit different and your powers might manifest in completely different ways. But Stacey encourages you to embrace whatever gifts come your way, as these are your soul’s purpose. My mum recently had a session with Stacey as well and said it so perfectly; she was trapped in the feeling of being comfortable with her fear. One of the aspects that Stacey helped my mum through was actually healing her fears and cutting cords, two places that my mum was tightly holding onto her fear. It’s amazing how quickly you can begin to heal when you start speaking with Higher Dimensional Beings. Stacey and I both share our own experiences. Stacey also explains how she moved through her own fear about her gifts and learned to embrace them. How much do you resonate with what Stacey has to say? Moving past fear and embracing our gifts is so powerful! Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What it feels like when a Higher Power uses your body as a vessel [11:00] How you might feel when you experience someone channelling a Higher Being [12:50] Why you need to keep going when you have a spiritual awakening [16:30] How you might start to connect with the Divine and your higher purpose [18:00] How you can become used to the feeling of fear [24:00] How quickly you can heal when you work with Higher Dimensional Beings [27:00] Why you shouldn’t be afraid of your spiritual gifts [32:30] Quotes “When you discover more about yourself, you start to see the world differently. You discover things about the world differently. You start to think that there’s more to this world, there has to be.” [6:55] “I didn’t think I really knew how to be spiritual. I wondered if I could only speak to certain people, did I need to start wearing hippie clothes? I had no idea what it was like to be spiritual. I had to learn that. You can still be yourself. You can still be human. You can still have this thing going on with you.”[14:23] “Please don’t give your power away to anybody, even these Higher Dimensional Beings. You are the power. You are the Being. They are in awe of us, at the end of the day. Don’t give your power and be seeking all of the answers outward. The beauty and the power is within.” [29:35] “I wanted to say that your guides will never give you anything that you’re not ready for, so please don’t worry about it. Healing your trauma is vital to living a healthy and spiritually fulfilled life. Isabella Imani joins me to talk about how she healed her own trauma and how she now helps her clients work through theirs. About Isabella Imani Isabella Imani is a Relationship and Behavioural Coach who works with Fortune 500 CEO’s and Executives to increase their Emotional Intelligence using a Trauma-Informed Approach. Through this lens, they work together to reprogram their subconscious behavioural patterns through inner alignment and goal setting. About Healing Your Trauma & Increasing Emotional Intelligence Isabella Imani shares her incredible story on this episode. She walked away from a very masculine-energy, high-profile career because she felt it didn’t serve her true calling. But to get there, she has to heal her past traumas. Trauma impacts almost every part of our lives. We need to be very clear here, as well, that you don’t need to experience big T Trauma (assault, abuse, etc) that little t trauma is valid and impactful in your life. Holding onto trauma keeps you in old thought patterns and behaviour, repeating negative experiences. Isabella encourages us to spend time sitting with our trauma and triggers to figure out where they come from. Exploring this part of our past helps us clear the blockages and move forward in a much healthier way. We also talk about generational trauma. Isabella explains how hugely traumatic events, for example, The Holocaust, actually (and scientifically) changed the DNA of those who lived through it and impact future generations. You can decide that the trauma stops with you; such a powerful thought and one that you can achieve by doing the hard work. Finally, we talk about trauma bonding. We especially notice this when we’re seeking a potential partner and notice behaviour patterns come up again and again with the type of men we’re attracted to. Working through your trauma bonding is something else that Isabella talks us through starting to break. Where do you notice your traumas and past experiences impact your current day-to-day life? In what ways are you working through these? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode Why you need to heal your past traumas [17:30] What happens when you spend time feeling into your triggers and where they come from [25:00] How transgenerational beliefs are a form of trauma [27:15] How you can stop the trauma in your lineage [32:30] What role trauma bonding has in your everyday life [39:00] Quotes “The way you do one thing is the way that you do all things.” [8:22] “Our unhealed wounds from any aspect of our lives, especially childhood, carries into our behavioural patterns today.” [16:30] “Trust your triggers because they show you areas where you are not yet healed.” [24:50] “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.” [45:11] Resources Mentioned Find Isabella Imani Online (https://www.imanimvmt.com) Follow Isabella Imani on Instagram (https://instagram.com/imani.mvmt) | Facebook (https://facebook.com/imani.mvmt) Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 16: Supporting Your Best Friend Through A Spiritual Awakening with Nicola Smith (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-16-supporting-your-best-friend-through-a-spiritual-awakening-with-nicola-smith/) Episode 12: Shifting Your Low Vibe in 3 Simple Steps (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-12-shifting-your-low-vibe-in-3-simple-steps/) Episode 19: Creating Balance & Wellness for Busy Boss Mamas with Laura Kyttanen (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-19-creating-balance-wellness-for-busy-boss-mamas-with-laura-kyttanen/) Special Guest: Isabella Imani.
Today you’re going to meet one of my oldest friends, Nicola Smith, known to many as one of the co-founders of Peaches and Cream. What you might not know is that everything I know about make-up I learned at Peaches, where Kate and Nicola took me on as a make-up artist while I lived in Liverpool for University. This is such a long and personal story for us so I’ve decided to split it into two parts. Today in part two, Nicola tells us about how the brand evolved from a make-up landmark in Liverpool to a global empire online. Here are a few of the things we discuss in this week’s episode that you may wish to take a look at. (Gaynor and Jed, I know you’ll be listening and reading, this one is for you!) Creating time for yourself is one of the keys to ascension, wellness, and balance. I’m joined by my friend Laura Kyttanen to talk about how she’s built her business to help women holistically build more space for themselves and their business. About Laura Kyttanen Laura Kyttanen is a business and mindset coach for women juggling their career around motherhood. She discovered this passion and purpose after being confronted with several identity shifts after motherhood, including experiencing a devastating miscarriage which prompted her spiritual awakening. Her mission is to guide female entrepreneurs with soul in order to ignite, expand, and elevate their business. One of Laura's favorite quotes is by Rumi "Only from the heart can you touch the sky." Laura combines her Masters in Organizational change from Columbia University, over a decade of experience in Fortune 500 companies in various roles, five years of entrepreneurship and a certificate in subconscious reprogramming in order to get to the heart of your business. As a mother of two, Laura knows it takes grit and soul to juggle boss life around motherhood. Laura gives motivational talks on what it takes to be a boss mama and is currently writing a book on her awakening journey to inspire other mamas to be the CEO of their life and make their dreams come true. About Creating Balance & Wellness for Busy Boss Mamas Laura Kyttanen joins me today to talk about how the hardest moments of her life led her into a spiritual awakening. When she looked at these traumas for what they were - learning opportunities - and dedicated time in her day to caring for herself, she underwent a huge awakening shift. Laura used what she learned during this awakening to start her own coaching business. She believes that creating your perfect messaging is one of the keys to a successful business. This is one of the aspects she focuses on when helping you build your business. But this isn’t where her coaching ends. Laura takes a holistic approach to coaching and encourages her clients to tune into their intuition. Women have lost the natural art of following their gut instincts and so many of us need to relearn how to get in touch with that side of ourselves. Part of this, as Laura says, is creating space for you to focus on you every single day. Yes, even busy boss mamas - five minutes a day just for yourself is a fabulous start to reconnecting with yourself. Finally, we talk about why being aware and in tune with the phases of the moon is so important for us, as women, to do. Laura has even built her business launches around the moon so that the energy ebbs and flows at the right time. What are you doing for yourself today? How do you tune in to the moon's changes each month? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode How the hardest moments in our lives can help us achieve spiritual awakening [8:00] How to create your perfect message [14:00] Why women should learn to tune into their intuition [17:00] Why you should carve out space for yourself every day [22:30] Why women are more connected to the phases of the moon and what happens when we align our life and business to the changes [26:30] Quotes “We often think that there’s these external things going on that are preventing us from the business or our life growing, but it’s actually us.” [11:02] “Women intuitively know the right steps to take. And we can take them, but it’s the mind that starts overruling us. That’s when we become confused. If we can learn how to get more calm and centred, and more empowered with knowing that we are not our thoughts, we are the creator of our thoughts.” [15:46] “There’s gotta be something more than just hustling and working more all the time. There has to be time for us to slow down and really take in and give ourselves that space to receive and just be.” [26:34] Resources Mentioned Find out More About my 3 Week Soul Activation Programme: The Ascension (https://sarahjflynn.com/ascension/) Download your Free Soulful Branding Worksheet (https://www.zielostudio.com/soulfulbranding) Find Laura Kyttanen Online (https://www.zielostudio.com) Follow Laura Kyttanen on Instagram (https://instagram.com/zielostudio) | Facebook (https://facebook.com/zielostudio) Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 15: How to Connect to Your Intuition in 4 Steps (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-15-how-to-connect-to-your-intuition-in-4-steps/) Episode 16: Supporting Your Best Friend Through A Spiritual Awakening with Nicola Smith (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-16-supporting-your-best-friend-through-a-spiritual-awakening-with-nicola-smith/) Episode 7: The Power of Self-Belief with Christina Marcou (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-7-the-power-of-self-belief-with-christina-marcou/) Special Guest: Laura Kyttanen.
Not feeling like you belong on Earth is so common amongst Starseed Souls. But, you are on this planet for a reason! Let’s talk about your mission as a Pleiadian Starseed. About Your Mission as a Pleiadian Starseed Do you ever feel like you’re not from here? Maybe not even this extreme - but like you keep wandering, but never finding somewhere that truly feels like home? This is one of the biggest signs you might actually be a Starseed Soul. Starseeds exist here on Earth but our souls come from elsewhere in this incredible Universe of ours. And guess what: if you’re here right now? It’s because you signed up to help shift Earth into the Fifth Dimension. In this episode, I talk through some of the signs that you’re a Starseed Soul, even if it’s not something that’s ever occurred to you before. Just listening to this episode is one of the signs that you’re called to this energy! In particular, I’ve found that I’m connected to Pleiadian Starseed Energy. This energy comes directly from a star system known as the Seven Sisters. Even though this is a newer revelation for me, I’ve been called home to these planets since I was a child. Even if you yourself aren’t a Starseed yourself, there’s a good chance that you have the ability to channel this energy. Channelling is another incredible way to connect to the Pleiadians and help advance our collection dimension. Let’s also talk about what it looks like to elevate this world to the Fifth Dimension. It’s all about reaching a higher consciousness and sharing a collective energy. Finally, I give you some insight into how you might remember that you’re a Pleiadian Starseed. Whether you recall through your dreams, a meditation, listening to this podcast, connecting to another Soul, Starseeds, does this message resonate with you? Are you connected with Pleiadian Energy? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What the signs that you’re a Starseed Soul are [2:30] Why Starseed Souls feel displaced [7:00] What Pleiadian Starseed Energy is and how it manifests in your life [11:30] How you might be channelling Pleiadian Starseed Energy [19:30] What it looks like to elevate to the fifth dimension [21:25] How you might remember that you’re a Pleiadian Starseed [22:00] Quotes “You volunteered to be here at this exact time. If you’re resonating with anything that I’m sharing, the reason you volunteered to be here at this exact time is because you said that you were going to play a role in helping the planet shift into the fifth dimension.” [9:25] “I think it’s fascinating to think that we live in this infinite Universe, we are actually ascending to become multi-dimensional beings, and it’s almost that reminder that there’s more going on than meets the eye. It’s almost that reminder to trust insight because we are receiving guidance all of the time. It’s almost a reminder that nothing is random.” [18:35] “It really is amazing to begin to honour who you truly are. From this place, you’re guided home. Remember I said that there’s a chance, if you are a Starseed, you’re searching for home all over the planet? You’re not going to find it on the planet but you are going to find it within yourself, through this connection to Pleiadian Energy. You will be guided home. You’ll feel their support and you’ll feel guided. You’ll also know that you cannot get your life path wrong.” [25:00] Resources Mentioned Sign up for The Paradigm of Light (https://sarahjflynn.com/light/) Join The Soul Savvy Collective - For Lightworker Women Rising in Life & Business (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 14: Making Space for New Levels of Expansion (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-14-making-space-for-new-levels-of-expansion/) Episode 10: Embodying Your Multidimensional Truth with Ella Tsang (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-10-embodying-your-multidimensional-truth-with-ella-tsang/) Episode 16: Supporting Your Best Friend Through A Spiritual Awakening with Nicola Smith (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-16-supporting-your-best-friend-through-a-spiritual-awakening-with-nicola-smith/)
Supporting a friend through their spiritual awakening takes a special, open, and accepting bond. I’m so lucky to have shared this bond with my best friend, Nicola Smith, who supported me through my spiritual awakening - and I supported her through hers! About Nicola Smith Nicola Smith is the co-founder of Peaches&Cream make-up and salon. Every day she helps women step into their unique beauty and power, feeling awakened and whole. She is my childhood best friend who I’m so excited to share with you today. About Supporting Your Best Friend Through A Spiritual Awakening Going through a spiritual transformation on your own can be a challenge. I was so lucky to have my best friend, Nicola Smith, to support me on this path. And, as you’ll see throughout this episode, my awakening led Nicola to have one of her own! When my awakening first started, Nicola was my sounding board. She didn’t understand everything that I was going through, but she stood there next to me, supporting me with every step I took. This support was absolutely invaluable and, honestly, is one of the most important things you can do if one of your friends is experiencing something like this, too. Growing up, Nicola and I shared so many moments of manifestation together, even though at the time we didn’t know that’s what we were doing. But it was these moments that brought so much honesty and closeness to our friendship. It’s essential that you have a friend you can talk about this stuff with - so if you don’t have one already, ask the Universe to send you one! Nicola shares with us how owning her own successful makeup business and brand led her into a constant state of hustle and grind. She explains how busy she was, all the time, and how this dimmed her light. When she realised she could step back, reevaluate her life, and spend time loving herself, her life opened up around her. Nicola spent so much time being busy all the time, she didn’t even realise that she was holding herself back from stepping into her own power. This was a totally fear-based mindset and one that we’ve worked through together. Nicola has now learned how to choose her destiny and outcome, and she tells you the trick to that in this episode. Our spiritual awakenings always look so different, they’re so personal and unique! Nicola learned to change her struggles into her success. While yes, the pandemic and quarantine is a very real and very scary situation we’re in, Nicola decided not to let it hinder her business. She learned to adapt and now is 100% standing in her truth, helping women feel beautiful and powerful every single day. Everyone’s different. Some people don’t believe in God but they’ll believe that someone is with them.” [25:15] “Four or five years ago, if I’d gotten a troll on social media, I’d have been on the floor devastated that someone’s called me a name. Whereas I’ve had to understand my own worth and learn about me and understand who I was before I could put myself out there to the world. To me, it’s just amazing now, because I didn’t ever realise that’s what I was scared of. I was scared of falling in love with myself.” [31:14] “A lot of people talk about what’s going on as if it’s a negative thing whereas, I’ve always been quite an optimistic person where I think, ‘if that’s not working, how can I make it work?’ If anyone’s listening, thinking, ‘well, I wonder what my thing is?’ You need to just think about what it is that actually makes you happy?” [42:11] “The pain that people are going through is the thing that’s going to be your strength in the future. In this episode, Nicola Smith, Twanna Harris, and I return to talk more about their new initiative: Grey Matter. Listen along as we discuss how storytelling affects perception of reality, and how to affect change through narrative. About Grey Matter: Racism is not just black and white; the fundamentals of racism are often found between the lines in the grey matter. We are digging deep into the layers of racism through our own personal stories and experiences of the world around us. From our local community leaders to CEOs of the corporate world to experts in every field, we're here to uncover the multifaceted ways racism, patriarchy, constructs of whiteness, and identity have adapted and impacted our everyday lives and the systems and institutions we rely on. We're challenging ourselves and all of you to start the dialogue around how we move past the current outcomes of racism considering the economic and racial disparities that continue to plague our society. We all have the power to rewrite the narratives that are shaping our industries and our world. Join us on our journey as we explore the substance between the black and the white. Over the next few months, the simmering tensions between China and Taiwan could develop into a full fledged armed conflict. China, say experts, could invade Taiwan during the American election and subsequent inauguration, as it is stirred by new weapons sales from The Trump Administration and official visits to Taiwan by American Diplomats. Would a Biden Presidency escalate the Taiwan situation? Is either Trump or Biden prepared to defend Taiwan with American forces? There is no agreement within American Administrations on how best to solve China-Taiwan tensions, but many agree it is a very dangerous time for Taiwan which pursues independence at it's peril, says China. In this Back Story Dana Lewis talks to Taipei based Asia Correspondent for The Telegraph Newspaper, Nicola Smith. And, senior adviser for Asia, and Director of the 'China Power Project' at Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Bonnie Glaser.

Recent high profile mistakes in food labelling have brought into sharp focus exactly how dangerous it can be to be complacent about allergies, allergens and your legal duty to provide customers with information. Compliance isn’t just about ticking the box marked ’14 allergens’. It requires a comprehensive strategy and commitment throughout your supply chain, from raw ingredients suppliers to the consumer. This week’s podcast will explore the changes in food information regulation and the practicalities of compliance. Joining host Stefan Gates by phone are Liz Tucker, AfN Registered Nutritionist & Food & Drink Industry Advisor, and Nicola Smith, Director, Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP, who will discuss what regulations are changing, what steps retailers have taken to increase the prominence of allergen information, and what companies need to consider in light of proposed regulatory changes.
A great deal of small businesses overlooks branding because they envision themselves as a business rather than a brand. However, no matter what the size of a business is, branding is what increases your value and creates trust from potential customers. Nicola Smith, the founder, and CEO of REBEL & REASON, uses her natural rebellious spirit to see opportunity where others see closed doors. She tells the importance of innovating your branding game, investing in blockchain per se, to level up your marketing. On the side, she reveals the blunders that some brands commit today and ways to bring out the value of your business. Love the show? What does it mean to be authentic in the digital age? How can you be authentic online? Is this something just for big corporations with huge marketing and communications teams, or can any small business or entrepreneur succeed? Jeff & Nicola show us that finding your passions, capitalizing on them and relying your support system will be what gets us through tough times. Their community (Ruston, Louisiana) has rallied behind them to show overwhelming support in the face of difficult times the Smith family has had, full of hospital stays spanning many months and across multiple hospitals.
