La tradición de las Cruces de Mayo celebra 50 años este fin de semana en Cartagena con conciertos gratuitos: Cantores de Hispalis, Decai y muchos artistas más del viernes 2 de mayo al domingo día 4 en los siete escenarios programados junto a cruces en plazas del casco histórico por el Ayuntamiento de Cartagena. En los barrios y diputaciones la programación se desarrolla principalmente a partir del 5 de mayo. La tradicional cita de primavera cuenta además con 37 barras de hostelería instaladas a pie de calle para llenar de ambiente la ciudad en una festividad a la que se suman cofradías de Semana Santa, los Romeros de San Ginés de la Jara, la asociación de vecinos del Casco Histórico, Hostecar o incluso el Carnaval de Cartagena, entre otros colectivos.El Ayuntamiento de Cartagena instalará en el casco histórico una treintena de aseos públicos de uso gratuito. Una gran parte de los baños públicos se ubicarán en la calle Balcones Azules, junto a una de las zonas más concurridas de esta festividad. También habrá aseos en plaza del próxima al Icue, plaza del Rey (calle Arena),las calles Escorial y Cuatro Santos, Calle Carneceria (Plaza José María Artés), Callejón Estereros (Calle Aire), próximo al Callejón de la Soledad y en la Calle Don Roque (Plaza de la Merced), y Calle Jara (Puerta lateral del Ayuntamiento). Todas las ubicaciones cuentan con aseos adaptados para personas con movilidad reducida.La música en las barras no sonará después de mediodía durante la siesta, ni tampoco después de las 23 horas.

La ermita de la Merced en Ares volvió a acoger la celebración de la tradicional romería del Voto de Chanteiro, organizada por los Concellos de Ares y Mugardos. Se trata de una tradición que cada año viven intensamente los vecinos de la zona y que sigue congregando a cientos de personas en torno a la ermita de la Merced. Romeros procedentes de Ares y Mugardos, pero también llegados de diferentes puntos de la comarca mantienen una tradición que se remonta al siglo XV cuando una peste afectó a Ferrolterra y, según la creencia, el episodio finalizó gracias a la intervención de la virgen de la Merced. Desde entonces se celebra cada año la ofrenda, en un acto litúrgico que se desarrolló a mediodía el pasado martes dando paso a la parte más festiva y gastronómica de la celebración.

Pepe Romero is such an artist. He has been honored by kings, heads of state, and major institutions-the encomiums continue to pour in. But to Romero, his most important contribution has been reaching the common man. He has communicated the richness and beauty of the classical guitar to millions of people throughout the world. He has, indeed, become an ambassador of classical music, and, correspondingly, of the classical guitar. But this gift did not just appear out of nowhere. Pepe is the second son of one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived—Celedonio Romero. And he is brother to two more musical phenoms—Celin and Angel Romero.  Pepe Romero has premiered works by some of the finest composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Joaquín Rodrigo, Federico Moreno Torroba, Lorenzo Palomo, Padre Francisco de Madina, Paul Chihara, Enrique Diemecke, Ernesto Cordero, and, most poignantly, Celedonio Romero, have written compositions for Pepe. Always a champion of music by composers in earlier periods of music history, he has also delved into rare archives to re-explore lost pieces by Fernando Sor, (world premiere and recording of Fantasie in d minor), Mauro Giuliani (world premiere recordings of Concerto no.2 in A major and Concerto no.3 in F major and Variations and Polonaise, Op.65), Francesco Molino (world premier recording of Guitar Concerto in E minor, Op.56), Ferdinando Carulli (world premiere recording of Guitar Concerto in E minor, Op.140), Johann Kaspar Mertz, Luigi Boccherini, (world premiere recording of all 8 guitar quintets) and others. Maestro Romero's many accomplishments include: world premieres of Rodrigo´s Concierto andaluz (with the Romero Guitar Quartet), Concierto madrigal (with Angel Romero), and Concierto para una fiesta (written for Pepe Romero); Federico Moreno Torroba's Diálogos entre guitarra y orquesta (Pepe was personally chosen by Torroba and Andrés Segovia for the world recording premiere of this work dedicated to Segovia with an extended guitar cadenza written especially for Pepe), Concierto Ibérico by Torroba (written for and performed by the Romeros), Concierto en flamenco by Torroba was premiered in Málaga (performed by Pepe with Angel Romero conducting); and Lorenzo Palomo's Concierto de Cienfuegos (with the Romero Quartet) and Nocturnos de Andalucía (both released on the Naxos label). Of the many guitar concertos by his father, Celedonio Romero, Pepe has performed the world premieres of Concierto de Málaga, Fiesta Andaluza and El Cortijo de Don Sancho. Other premieres include Troubadour Music for four guitars and orchestra by Morton Gould, Concierto vasco and Concierto flamenco by Francisco de Madina, Concierto festivo by Ernesto Cordero, Christmas Suite for four guitars and chamber orchestra by Massimo Paris, Concierto a Celedonio by Enrique Diemecke, Concierto Mariachi by Michael Zearott and the guitar concerto, Zareh, by Loris Tjeknavorian. He also revived the great orchestral work Metamorfosi de concert by Xavier Montsalvatge, with Gianandrea Noseda, and premiered as well as recorded the Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra with Trumpet Obbligato by Paul Chihara, with Neville Marriner and the London Symphony. In April 2014 Pepe Romero performed the German premiere in the Berlin Philharmonic of a new work by Lorenzo Palomo – Fulgores - for violin, guitar and orchestra. Pepe Romero has always felt, along with his father and brothers, that the sharing of one's art is a personal responsibility. Mr. Romero has served as Professor of Guitar at the University of Southern California, University of California at San Diego, Southern Methodist University, and the University of San Diego. Every summer at the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute, currently held at Oklahoma City University, the Romeros conduct an intensive guitar workshop including master classes, private lessons, student concerts and a final concert featuring the students performing with the Romeros. Pepe has conducted master classes at the Salzburg Summer Academy, Córdoba Guitar Festival, and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. In 2004 he was appointed Distinguished Artist in Residence at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. His newly revised guitar method “La Guitarra” was published and released by Tuscany Publications in 2012. Currently he is finalizing a teaching video that discloses the principles of the Pepe Romero guitar technique.

"Quizá lo que ha llamado la atención ha sido la mezcla. No se esperaban que nos juntáramos Los Estanques y Anni b Sweet pero al final ha sido algo súper-orgánico”. Es la explicación que da Anni al ver la expectación que están causando la unión de las dos bandas. Esta fusión nació como un amor a primer oído musical, al intercambiarse canciones y la primera que surgió de este proyecto fue “Tu pelo de flores”. Tema con el que han comenzado la noche Iñigo Bregel (piano y voz), Anni (voz) y Germán Herrero a la guitarra y coros. El título del disco “Elefante inesperado y burbuja cómoda” nace de una aplicación del móvil de Anni y ha dado mucho juego a Mario Feal, responsable del arte del disco y del audio que les envía con la voz de Siri y que les deja alucinados. Todo lo que rodea a este proyecto es un juego de palabras, de sonidos. Álbum auto-producido entre Madrid y las montañas cántabras- vascas, rodeados de gallinas y de allí nació la expresión de “no hay huevos “que sobrevuela todo este trabajo. Miguel A. Hoyos nos narra la trayectoria por separado de cada una de las formaciones y se los imagina encima de un cuadrilátero. Y gana el amor, como el que profesa la responsable de las redes sociales, Amaia Bregel, a su hermano. El momento álgido de la noche llega con “He bebido tanto … que estoy muerto de sed”. Canción que tocarán también en los conciertos de este verano. Gira en la que no faltará Fabián Romeros, técnico de sonido para el que ha sido un regalo trabajar junto a dos artistas a los que quiere tanto. Y un regalazo es el que le hace Miguel Ríos a Anni al recordarnos el día que la conoció. Commuter Marriage: How Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder   Today, I’m talking with Abe & Elaine Romero about the pros and cons of commuter marriages. The Romeros have been living apart for their entire four-year marriage and plan to continue their unique marriage arrangement for at least another four years. We've all heard that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but why? The Romeros have figured it out. Both previously divorced, Abe and Elaine decided to keep their own houses in separate states (he lives in Texas, she lives in California) after they got married mostly because of their shared five children. They didn’t think it was fair to uproot the kids, especially after they’d all been through hard divorces. We talk all about their decision to maintain separate lives while also coming together often. It’s the classic case of how absence can make the heart grow fonder, not farther. A marriage and family therapist with Safe Harbor Counseling Center, Elaine knows a thing or two about how to create a successful relationship.   Commuter Marriage Pros and Cons With anything in life, there will be pros and cons . . . reasons why you should and shouldn’t do something. Elaine explained that one of the pros of their commuter marriage is the excitement of being together. We married people tend to take each other for granted, so the absence actually helps make their times together more meaningful. Both Abe and Elaine spoke of having a deeper connection and better sex when they get together.   On the flip side, living apart presents its challenges as well. The biggest challenge being the loss of physical connection. That hug, squeeze, or comforting shoulder to cry on isn’t there. There’s also the trust factor. I asked the Romeros if they had trust issues, and they both answered very honestly. Elaine has experienced infidelity in her past marriage, so trust issues can be a trigger for her. She referenced Susan Johnson, who is a known proponent of emotionally-focused therapy,  as saying, “The true warriors are those who sign up again after past betrayals.” The truth is trust can be an issue whether you’re in the same house or not.   Getting Creative While Living Apart One of my favorite parts of our conversation was hearing how the Romeros use the absence to make their hearts grow fonder by getting creative with date nights. Abe explained how the couple will do “who plated it best” contests. They’ll cook the same meal together on the phone and then show each other how they plated it. How fun! The families also do family movie nights, family Zoom calls, and even online tours (they’ve been to Italy virtually!) and online concerts.   We laughed a lot during this podcast conversation, and I remarked to Elaine, later, that it felt like we were just old friends chatting on the phone. Distilling is an exercise in patience, barrelling a spirit and then waiting for fermentation to work its magic. For this week's guest, Tomas Romero of Romero Distilling, this wait is about to pay off, with more than 170 barrels of rum nearly ready to be bottled in this distillery that is the first of its kind in western Canada.Romero Distilling is the only rum focused distillery in western Canada, and in addition to a history of the business Tomas treats us to a history of rum in western Canada during prohibition, a story that goes back more than a century. In 1916 Alberta enacted prohibition, making it illegal to sell alcoholic beverages within the province, which would last for nearly a decade until prohibition was repealed in 1924. At first this led to Albertans looking to BC to quench their thirst, but only a year later BC would enact prohibition as well, turning thirsty Albertan's sights to the US. At this time the majority of spirits smuggled into Alberta was primarily vodka and whisky, but this would change when the US also enacted prohibition in 1920. Earning their name, rum runners would then begin to import rum by ship through ports in BC, causing an influx of this sweeter spirit.95 years after prohibition in Alberta ended Tomas and his father Diego founded Romero Distilling together right here in Calgary, barrelled their first batch of rum on July 12th 2019, and opened their tasting room to the public last October. This distillery takes being a family business seriously, with Tomas' wife working in their tasting room, and a second father-son duo works at the distillery with the Romeros. During the year they've been waiting for their rum to be ready to bottle they've collaborated with Village Brewing on a beer, aptly named Rum Runner, and during the COVID-19 pandemic they've helped serve the community by manufacturing hand sanitizer during a period of panic buying.What's next once their delicious rum gets bottled? Podcasts and the audio engineering genius behind over 3000 podcast episodes is joining me to give you his best podcasting tips along with what exactly goes into editing an episode. Much like myself, Daniel stumbled into podcasting and never looked back. What we’re talking about What Goes In To Editing A Podcast? Podcast Recording Tips Daniel’s Favorite Podcasting Equipment And Platforms What Goes In To Editing A Podcast? Editing a podcast episode can take two to three times the length of the actual episode. One an episode is recorded, Daniel turns into an audio engineer. His job is to ensure the conversations sound fluent without dead spaces, removing edits (the um’s and pauses), mixing and mastering sound levels and removing background noise. That’s not all though...Daniel then packages the episode, exports it to format it, adds ID3 tags and finally uploads it. Editing is an art form and while you can do it yourself, having an audio engineer like Daniel on your team creates a pretty perfect product.  Podcast Recording Tips Daniel is sharing some tips with you about the two biggest things you should pay attention to when recording a podcast. The first is your microphone. The quality of the mic will help with the quality of the sound, frequency response and good pickups. Daniel recommends you keep the mic close to your, about 2 inches, and to adjust the volume or gain to prevent distortion. In addition to the mic, the room you are recording in will play a big part in the way the sound quality will turn out. Regardless of the mic you use, your quality will be downgraded without sound reflections. One of our biggest kept secrets and greatest recording hack is to just record in your closet!  Daniel’s Favorite Podcasting Equipment And Platforms Daniel is sharing his favorite podcasting equipment and it starts with the Blue Yeti microphone which we both use. It’s a simple plug and play utilizing a USB connection and bonus points...it looks pretty in a variety of colors! For recording, Daniel recommends GarageBand if you have a Mac or Audacity if you have a PC. Lyssna på alla avsnitt i Sveriges Radio Play. Vi träffar till att börja med den gamla reggae-stjärnan Max Romero på hans gård några mil norr om Kingston, Jamaica. Romeros trädgård är full av fruktträd och kokospalmer, men idyllen förstörs av den motorväg som precis håller på att byggas strax bakom huset. När han inte slåss mot vägbygget ägnar han sig åt att fostra och producera en ny generation reggaemusiker. Jamaica är inte Latinamerika, men musikaliskt finns det starka band och ständiga utbyten mellan fastlandet och de karibiska öarna - spansk- fransk- så väl som engelsktalande. I Kingston har musikscenen länge dominerats av elektronisk dancehall, men på senare år har artister som Chronixx och Iba Mahr gett reggaen en revival och också de träffar vi. Den nya skolans reggaeartister har ofta texter med budskap, i motsats till den machodominerade dancehallkulturen, och många ur det äldre gardet hoppas på dagens unga sångare ska kunna återge jamaicansk musik den internationella status den hade under Bob Marleys dagar. Men att föräldragenerationen hoppas på en är naturligtvis inte bara en fördel om man vill slå som popartist. Sist men inte minst träffar vi reggae-veteranen Marcia Griffiths. Säg "latinamerikansk musik" och många tänker kanske samba men i Central- och Sydamerika skapas det ständigt nytt. Här i del fem av "Hybridmusik i Latinamerika" handlar det om reggaens återkomst. Vi träffar till att börja med den gamla reggae-stjärnan Max Romero på hans gård några mil norr om Kingston, Jamaica. Romeros trädgård är full av fruktträd och kokospalmer, men idyllen förstörs av den motorväg som precis håller på att byggas strax bakom huset. När han inte slåss mot vägbygget ägnar han sig åt att fostra och producera en ny generation reggaemusiker. Jamaica är inte Latinamerika, men musikaliskt finns det starka band och ständiga utbyten mellan fastlandet och de karibiska öarna - spansk- fransk- så väl som engelsktalande. I Kingston har musikscenen länge dominerats av elektronisk dancehall, men på senare år har artister som Chronixx och Iba Mahr gett reggaen en revival och också de träffar vi. Den nya skolans reggaeartister har ofta texter med budskap, i motsats till den machodominerade dancehallkulturen, och många ur det äldre gardet hoppas på dagens unga sångare ska kunna återge jamaicansk musik den internationella status den hade under Bob Marleys dagar. Men att föräldragenerationen hoppas på en är naturligtvis inte bara en fördel om man vill slå som popartist. Sist men inte minst träffar vi reggae-veteranen Marcia Griffiths. From the tiny town of Horsefly, British Columbia, the Romeros craft some of the most coveted new fretted instruments being made. They currently have a five year waitlist and, as they describe it, even getting on the waitlist is a bit of a challenge. The duo are also exceptional musicians and won the 2016 Juno Award for Best Traditional Album of the Year.  In June 2016, a fire swept through the Romeros entire shop, destroying many of their new instruments as well as some of the prized vintage possessions. During our conversation, we talk to them about the fire, the help they received from the music community and how their rebuild process is going. A little something new from Drinks On Monday, a new one on one interview segment. Today, Mike talks with David Bash, the founder of the International Pop Overthrow Festival which stops in Chicago this week and will run from April 14th to April 23rd. Mike's band, The Romeros, will be closing the festival out as they've been doing for the past few years. Mike and Dave chat about the beginnings of the festival in Los Angeles as well as some of the other cities that the IPO stops off in. The two pop fans also talk about Cheao Trick, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Mike Love and David Bash's other project, the Power Pop Hall Of Fame.

This week's episode features The Strike Team sucking down a case of Special Export with members of Mike's band, The Romeros. Alex, Stephanie, and Andy sit in and discuss the ROUGE ONE teaser trailer, deleted scenes from THE FORCE AWAKENS as well as offering their takes on the new Cheap Trick record, BANG, ZOOM, CRAZY...HELLO. Ein Engagement, das in den Studentenunruhen der 68er Zeit begann, ihn dann nach Südamerika führte und weiter in die Arbeit als engagierter Rechtsanwalt in Bremen. Im Laufe der Geschichte seines Engagements ist er aber dann, wie er sagt, aus verschiedenen Welterklärungsmodellen ausgestiegen. Das Zen, so sagt er, zertrümmerte dann auch noch jedes seiner übrig gebliebenen Konzepte. Er fand sich zurückgeworfen auf das reine sozial engagierte Mitgefühl. Und dann bleibt uns als Perspektive, so schließt er, dass wir rechtzeitig bei uns selber die Voraussetzungen schaffen, um eine mitfühlende Welt zu gestalten.

Let me introduce you to musicologist and classical guitarist Dr. Walter Aaron Clark. Dr. Clark is the founder and director of the Center for Iberian and Latin American Music at the University of California, Riverside, where he is currently on the faculty. Additionally Walter is an accomplished guitarist, holding bachelors and master's degrees in classical guitar, his M.A. earned studying with Pepe Romero. He's written numerous books and articles on all our favorites, most recently Tórroba and Albeñiz. For those of you out there that want music, and probably guitar, to be part of your primary career path, but are looking into alternatives to being a touring concert artist or teacher music history might be the way to go. Walter is a great example of this career choice, as he has been able to maintain his connection to the guitar world by writing about many classical guitarists' most beloved composers. On the show today Dr. Clark will discuss the life of a guitarist-musicologists, we will hear some interesting history about Albeñiz's piece, which is incorrectly titled Asturias (Leyenda), and for those of you who love Spanish music but a little tired of the same old repertoire, Walter gives us some suggestions for new transcriptions and arrangements in the substantial repertoire of Spanish light opera, Zarzuela.
