TAIAWENTÓN:TI': So daily it is like – what time is the bridge closing? ‘Cause, if it is closing, there is another route we can take. So knowing those back roads and knowing where the gas stations were and where the Tim Horton's were and make our way up to Kahnawake. And even when you get to Kahnawake sometimes they block their roads out there ‘cause of the through traffic so like “K! The roads are blocked! Let's find another route in.” so… AUNTIE: TAIAWENTÓN:TI' AND HER FRIENDS ARE EXPERTS AT FINDING ANOTHER ROUTE IN – AND HAVE FORMED A GROUP CALLED “YONKWARONHKA'ONHATYE” WHICH TRANSLATES TO “WE ARE MAKING OURSELVES FLUENT”. THEY'RE LEARNING AND TEACHING KANYEN'KEHA BY ENGAGING MYRIAD ASPECTS OF OUR CULTURE AND DAILY LIFE – NOT JUST THE HIGHEST BAR OF PROFICIENCY – WHICH IS A COMMON THING TO DO. TAIAWENTÓN:TI': I am reclaiming my language. I am reclaiming my land. I am reclaiming my position as a mom. I'm reclaiming my voice as a woman. I am reclaiming all of those things. This week I am sharing with you a kundalini meditation to disrupt patterns of poverty and clear your energy channels for Prosperity and Wealth. According to Kundalini Yoga, prosperity comes through the heart. The Sanskrit mantra, “Har,” translates to “God as the Creative Infinity,” and affirms our ability to co-create. This kriya is a prosperity practice. It is an active combination of mudra (hand position) and mantra (sound) designed to bring prosperity to your life. This meditation stimulates the mind, along with the moon and Jupiter centers of the hands. It's the coming together of Moon and Jupiter that's said to create wealth. You may practice this meditation for 3-11 minutes, but no more. More than 11 minutes is said to be greedy. The Practice Posture: Sit in Easy Pose Mudra: Elbows are by the sides, forearms are at a 45° angle, with the fingers at the level of the throat. The exercise begins with the palms facing down. Alternately strike the sides of the hands together. When the palms are face down, the sides of the Jupiter (index) fingers touch, and the thumbs cross below the hands, with the right thumb under the left. When the palms are face up, the Mercury (pinky) fingers and the Moon Mounds (located at the base of the palms) touch. Eyes: Focus at the tip of the nose, eyes are 9/l0th closed. Mantra: Har Chant continuously from the navel, using the tip of the tongue (pronounced "hud"). The Tantric Har song played here is by White Sun All meditations should be practiced for a minimum of 3, 5, 7, or 11 Minutes and for 40 days consecutively so that the grey matter of the brain starts to change. To Start always tune in with chanting three times Ong Namo Guru Deve Namo Remember to also always check with your health care practitioner for any questions and before you start a new health regimen. This month we are joined by Robert Draper, New York Times Magazine political journalist to discuss his most recent article: “The Arizona Republican Party's Anti-Democracy Experiment”. Apart from being a regular commentator on MSNBC, CNN and Washington Journal, among others, Draper is also the author of several books, including his most recent bombshell, To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America into Iraq (2000). In Robert Draper's essay on the Arizona GOP's Anti-Democracy Experiment, he goes under the hood and explains how it all happened. And given the fact that we are about a month away from one of the most consequential elections in American history, we had to get Robert's take on how we understand what's going down and the stakes for our nation. www.nytimes.com/2022/08/15/magazine/arizona-republicans-democracy.html twitter.com/DraperRobert twitter.com/lisasharper

This week's episode is a replay of Episode 60: How Peter Glatz Quit His Dental Practice At 65 To Start a Second Career In one Of America's Best Restaurants. How many times have you wanted to start over? How many times have you started thinking about the possibilities only to follow them up with the thought, "but it's too late in my life to do this"? If you're human, then you've probably had this discussion with yourself a million different times, and that's okay, we all have those moments. However, even though you may feel like it's too late to start over, it doesn't mean that it is. Today's guest, Peter Glatz is essentially the holy grail when it comes to that myth. At 60 years old, Peter left his dentistry career of over 40 years in order to pursue cooking. He began his journey into the culinary world by reaching out to well-known chefs offering to work for free! (Who says you have to immediately start making money off of something you love? Just start!). Listen to how his journey led him to eventually landing a dream job as a link cook at Nonesuch in Oklahoma City, Bon Appetit's 2018 Best Restaurant in America. Despite working long, 12 hour days at a physically taxing job, Peter has never been happier. I love so many things about his story. There are so many people who count themselves out when they reach a certain age because they believe it's too late for them to pivot their path. But Peter's story is really a testament to the fact that there is always time to try something new! Not only that, but he didn't let his lack of formal experience stop him from feeling confident enough to reach out to those well-known chefs. There are just so, so many wonderful lessons to learn from Peter and his journey. Here is what we chat about in this episode: How it's never too late to start over. How if you want something different you should do something about it. Why you should create a vision and then take action. And so much more!

Today I want to talk about Why We Quit at Things. Or maybe more specifically, Why We Quit on Ourselves. Most of us do this in one way or another. And it's never a great thing. But for many it becomes a pattern that holds them back. You know what I mean.We start the diet determined to head into swimsuit season at our ideal weight. So, we start the diet determined and motivated. And then a few weeks or a month in, we give up.We decide this is the year to find the ideal job. So, we dive into the job search with gusto, land some interviews and when the rejections start rolling in, we give up.We start the direct sales business or other side hustle and go all in. At first. But when it gets challenging finding clients or managing the calendar, we decide it's not meant for us; it's too hard, so we give up. And there's lots more where that came from in every area of our life – with relationships, paying off debt, working out, starting the business, changing career paths.Too often, we give up. I wanted to talk about this today because I see it all the time in my practices. I've done it too often in my own life. The diets I've started and stopped. My passion for writing romantic fiction which I just gave up after finishing a few books.Even my efforts at getting this business going. I've started and stopped many times. So, are you quitting on anything? If so, what? It's important to remember when we quit something we really want, we're not just quitting that thing. We're quitting ourselves. And that's why I wanted to talk about this topic today. Your goals and dreams and YOU are too important to quit on. Today we're going to explore the whys and learn what we can do about it.So, let's dive in.When we set a big goal or have a burning desire to do something, it feels AMAZING.We see the vision, imagine how amazing it will be to HAVE the new thing. This DESIRE gives us the motivation and excitement to get going. To START the thing believing that we can HAVE it. So, we fix our eyes firmly on the horizon and start moving forward. Then we get into it.And as we go, the days and months and sometimes years tick by and we start to encounter challenges. Obstacles.Rejection.Challenges.Setbacks.And that's when a shift starts to happen.Suddenly we don't FEEL motivated or excited. And maybe we can't even connect with our DESIRE for the thing anymore. We just know we suddenly feel discouraged. Uncomfortable.Bored.Defeated.Because it no longer FEELS good, our discipline or pursuit of the DREAM starts to slip. After all, who wants to throw all their energy and effort into something that DOESN'T FEEL GOOD?And if these negative emotions PERSIST, we quit. For most of us, when we quit, we're rewarded – at least for a little while – with HUGE feeling of relief. The discomfort, boredom and feelings of defeat are gone because your life can go back to NORMAL.We tell ourselves NORMAL is okay. We're used to it. (Even though our life might not be what we want, it's what we're used to and that's okay). And because we FEEL better, we tell ourselves it was GOOD that we quit. That the thing we were pursing wasn't meant for us anyway. The problem though is that when this pattern of quitting on yourself becomes ingrained, it erodes our belief in ourselves. We start to believe we CAN'T do the things we dream of.That we're not GOOD ENOUGH.That it's pointless to EVEN TRY.That we can NEVER DO HARD THINGS.What we just DON'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES.Sound familiar? If so, you're not alone. Most of us struggle with this in one way or another.Listen for more.

Unique Skill Sets Lead to Success in The Second Phase. It's about discovering needs and being willing to divorce our sense of identity from what we do for a living. Finding her second phase meant using her skill sets, having a positive impact, and helping others tell their stories. Telling untold stories was part of Charlie Grosso's goal but she wanted to do it in a way that would empower. Likewise, she wanted to tell stories with integrity. She didn't want the stories to become watered down. Charlie grew up with the internet. She believes in the initial promise it had. This was a reason for starting the non-profit, Hello Future. She and her team at Hello Future teach refugee youths how to use the internet. Using the internet empowers them. To find a second phase align your values, visions, and passions. It is powerful to find your calling. Living Simply to Start a Business and Achieve Goals As a career freelancer, Charlie has never relied on a paycheck from someone else. She's always planned for unknown outcomes. To support her livelihood, she has her photography business, but she also lives a simple, non-extravagant lifestyle. Similarly, she was used to taking risks as a freelancer. Starting the non-profit may have been a risk, but she believed in it. Her goal is to prove that Hello Future will be a success and have an impact on refugee youth. The Syrian Refugee Crisis Led Charlie to Start a Business, which is a Non-Profit Charlie chose to immerse herself in the crisis in Istanbul. While there, she researched the relationship people in the communities had with the internet. Likewise, she started to ask the question, what do they do with their mobile phones. The answer, Facebook, Instagram, and What's App. They used the platforms for news and keeping in touch with family. The apps were their only view of the internet. Surprisingly, the refugees had never performed a Google search. It hadn't ever occurred to them. Charlie came to the realization that you don't know what you don't know. If they didn't know Google existed, they didn't know to use it. Once Charlie identified the need to improve digital illiteracy, she decided to focus on teens. Teens can teach up to their parents and down to younger siblings. In addition, there are limited programs for teens so it was an opportunity to educate and empower them. The program is structured for in-person education. Hello Future has paid employees that teach the students. Having paid instructors instead of volunteers helps with accountability. Digital Literacy The simple definition of digital literacy is to find, share, and create content online. It is important to realize the need for evaluating whether or not the information consumed is accurate. Is the information based on fact or not? To Start a Business and Create a Second Phase You Have to separate from the Sense of Identity Associated with the Work that You Do One of the most freeing things to do is to separate your sense of identity from your career. We present a brand image with what we do for a job. Defining ourselves by what we do and holding ourselves back because we always have to be on-brand, is like wearing a straight jacket. Therefore, when making the shift into the second phase, it's important to ask, what is an ideal day. From there, discover what you can do to have as many of those days as possible. What can you do to feel in charge of your own time? Look at success and value based on impact, not numbers and measures. It's also important to realize that there are always human variances that can shift the level of success you achieve. To Start a Business You Must Get Curious and Take the Necessary Action Once you've identified your calling and purpose it is necessary to take action. To figure out your next phase, get curious. Learn. When we get curious, we explore more opportunities. It's about finding what has meaning for you. When you get curious, you learn. When you learn, you can create opportunities. Push fear aside and put curiosity into play. Remember, our futures are intertwined. About Charlie Charlie Grosso has 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur. Founding her business at the age of 20, she went on to be a successful advertising photographer. Charlie worked with Lexus, Nike, JC Penney, Comedy Central, and more. As a creative director, her clients included Paramount, Variety, and FX. In the last 10 years, she's traveled to over 80+ countries working as a writer, documentarian, filmmaker, and consultant. She specializes in strategic management and program design for social enterprises, tech/media companies, and NGOs. Hello Future is the culmination of her lifelong passion for innovation and social justice. Learn more about your host, Robyn Graham, click HERE. Did we learn the right lessons from the Iraq war? Before we can answer that, we must understand why we went into Iraq in the first place. Author and journalist Robert Draper’s new book “To Start a War” chronicles with incredibly painstaking research and reporting how the most consequential foreign policy disaster of our time came to be. Listen to him detail why 18 months after September 11th, we invaded a country that had nothing to do with the attacks, resulting in tens of thousands dead, trillions of dollars spent, and a destabilized middle East. And how tied to this legacy is an increased level of public distrust in institutions, experts, and insiders, which paved the way for the biggest outsider of them all.RELATED READING:To Start a War by Robert DraperDead Certain by Robert Draper

In 2003, America invaded Iraq. The war cost trillions of dollars, thousands of American lives, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives, and destabilized the both the US and the Middle East. And for what? Iraq had no WMDs. Even if they had, they posed no threat to us. Why did we do it? What do we need to learn from it? That’s the question Robert Draper has spent years trying to answer. In 2007, Draper wrote Dead Certain, a study of the Bush administration with access to the President himself. But there was a hole at the center of that book, and Draper knew it: He still didn't quite understand what had led Bush to invade Iraq. And so he set out to fill the hole. Draper’s To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America into Iraq is based on interviews with more than 300 people involved in the run-up to the Iraq War, and the stories they tell offer the clearest, most damning, most useful account of that decision to date. There’s a reason I wanted to have this conversation right now. The Iraq War isn’t just past. It’s present. It’s part of how George W. Bush’s Republican Party fell to Donald Trump. It’s a study in the ways a president led by conviction and dismissive of expertise can warp the federal government (sound familiar?). It’s a reminder that belief can be as dangerous as cynicism. It's a lesson in the way that, when information is uncertain, assumptions rule all. And for all the differences between Bush and Trump personally, closely studying the Iraq War reveals a key continuity between them, and a reason Republican administrations keep leading to catastrophe. President Trump's relationship with the intelligence community is back in the news again after allegations that his administration manipulated an intelligence report to show a false equivalency between Russian efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election on his behalf and similar efforts by China and Iran on behalf of his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden. But Trump isn't the first president to try to get the intelligence community to align its assessments with his preferred version of the facts, and he's most likely not the last. This week, Scott R. Anderson sat down with journalist Robert Draper to discuss his new book on one of the most infamous cases of intelligence manipulation in recent history, entitled "To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America into Iraq." They also discussed his recent article for The New York Times Magazine detailing the Trump administration's efforts to change intelligence reports on election interference and what these cases can tell us about the relationship between the presidency and the intelligence community.
Robert Draper is our guest; he is a writer at large for The New York Times Magazine and a contributing writer to National Geographic. His many books include the bestselling "Dead Certain: The Presidency of George W. Bush." His new book, which he tells us about, is "To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America into Iraq." As was noted of this work by The Los Angeles Times: "The serial mistruths, mistakes, and misperceptions about Iraq's supposed weapons of mass destruction and alleged support for Al Qaeda are laid out in devastating detail in Robert Draper's authoritative new book.... The most comprehensive account yet of that smoldering wreck of foreign policy, one that haunts us today."
It’s been 17 years since U.S. forces invaded Iraq. Robert Draper of The New York Times joins host Krys Boyd to talk about how a combination of groupthink, faulty intelligence and a flawed decision-making process led to a war that spawned many unintended consequences. His new book is called “To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America Into Iraq.”
Journalist and Author Robert Draper joins Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman on Skullduggery's "Buried Treasure." The group discuss Draper's new book, To Start a War: How The Bush Administration Took America Into War. Draper lays out all the details of the infamous disaster including new details recently exposed. It's a story about a sales pitch to convince the American people and those at the United Nations Security Council that Saddam Hussain had weapons of mass destruction. In this episode of Intelligence Matters, host Michael Morell interviews journalist Robert Draper, author of To Start a War: How the Bush Administration Took America into Iraq. Draper and Morell discuss the key players, events and decisions that led to the George W. Bush administration's invasion of Iraq more than 15 years ago. Draper details the positions held by top policymakers and U.S intelligence agencies, and explains why he believes certain failures came to pass.

Not to freak you out or anything, but there are only 123 days left in 2018. 123!! And if you're anything like me, summer was so loosey goosey that you're feeling like you better get moving to accomplish everything you set out to do this year. Today on the podcast I'm covering 5 ways to absolutely crush your goals this fall, EVEN IF summer wasn't hot and you weren't as productive as you wanted to be. By taking time to walk through these 5 quick steps, you'll instantly set the next four months up for success. #1: Set a goal that challenges you, is directly tied to revenue and that has a deadline. Goals that don't work are generic ones like: "grow my list" or "fill my client slots" or "max out my program." I can't help you crush goals that aren't quantifiable. Why? Because you can easily rationalize why generic goals didn't happen. There's no accountability. There's no framework and there's no way to make sure you succeed with goals like that. Instead, set a goal like "Grow my list by 500 new leads by Dec. 31" or "Sign 2 new 1-1 clients in September, October and November" or "Get 12 women to join the Mastermind when it launches in November" Now those goals ☝☝ are ones we can work with. #2: Know what metrics show the health of your business and track them Set benchmarks for yourself/business so that you know at each step of the way if you're on track to hit your goal AND what needs to be adjusted so that you can still hit it. Obviously, if I'm telling you to tie it to revenue, tracking the revenue coming in will be one metric. But you also may need to know the path a lead takes until they say yes and how well you convert at each touchpoint. You probably need to track basic stats like the number of people you make an offer to and how many say yes. You may want to track how many people are qualified who join your list and how many are simply unknown leads. This tells you if you need to tighten up your optin so that you're attracting higher caliber leads who are READY FOR YOU. Listen to episode #005: The Down & Dirty of Marketing Metrics and How to Print Money For Your Biz and snag my free Marketing Metrics Cheatsheet to start tracking the metrics most important in your business. The spreadsheet gives you metrics to track, formulas so that all you have to do is plug and play. #3: Execute by blocking off your time to do the most important tasks. Time-blocking is one of my favorite ninja moves for executing. So many women entrepreneurs struggle with executing the plans and goals we set for ourselves. Part of it is because we second-guess everything and another part is because we can be paralyzed when we're so close to our business to know what's actually making a difference. Using my time-block method, you will make time for the most important things AND STILL have time to do what's important to you outside of work. (and minus the hustle). Download my Ideal Schedule Planner to walk you through exactly how to block out your schedule this fall and get everything done you need to. OR join my email list and get all these goodies and more sent straight to your inbox each week. The secret to time-blocking is blocking off everything in your day. Not only does it force you to evaluate what's important to you, but it also helps you see if you're under planning, or more likely, over-planning and trying to cram 30 hours of work into a single day. To get started, block of these things in this order: Non-negotiables (appointments, kid activities, events, obligations) Date Night With Your Spouse Time for YOU Income-Producing Tasks Admin & Work IN Your Biz Tasks White Space #4: Focus your tasks by creating a Minimum Viable Task List We all have emergencies pop up that totally wreck a carefully planned day. By creating a MVT List (minimum viable task list) you're allowing yourself to focus on only the most important things if you DO have to readjust, without feeling like everything you carefully planned is ruined. This backup feature also gives you peace of mind that even if a tragedy strikes or something requires your immediate attention, that you're still moving toward the goals you set. #5: Don't lose momentum when you transition to a new task or stop work for the day with a To Start on Tomorrow List I told you I love lists. I especially love this list because it closes the open loop I create in my mind when I wrap up a project because time is up, but am not completely finished. By tracking the project, what I was working on and the very next step to take, I allow myself to immediately jump right back in when I'm back on that project without losing 15-20 minutes each time getting refocused.

Say the clerk fouled up the copy and instead of putting the misprinted copy in the shredder, accidentally shreds your original. Case in point, keep it as just that, A KEEPSAKE! This one's all over the map. To Start off with, Adam's GF Ali is in the studio for this one, but you can't really tell. Susan, however is also in studio. And you can, in fact, tell. There is lively debate on the merits of Quinten "Cut Trailers to look like the movie is about something that it's not really about" Tarentino's new movie "Spelled Incorrectly because that makes me seem edgy", also known by it's french title "Not really about killing Nazi's at all, mostly about tense conversations over tables." And by lively debate, I mean Tristan thinking the movie was shitty, and Adam being suprised by how upset Tristan is by the whole thing. Also Ted Kennedy is dead. Big day.
