At 10AM CBS resumed programming with their mid-morning soap operas. First up was Valiant Lady, starring Joan Blaine. Joan was a valiant lady because she sacrificed a promising Broadway career for her father's sake, then married a “brilliant but unstable" surgeon. People like the just-heard Mandel Kramer loved working on soap operas from New York. At 10:15AM Light of the World signed on starring Bret Morrison as “the Speaker.” The show was a soap opera version of the stories of the bible and featured some of New York's best talent like Mandel Kramer, Louise Fitch, and Alexander Scourby. This D-Day broadcast was the very first episode of Light of the World on CBS. It had been running on NBC since March of 1940. It would run on CBS until August of 1946 before once again being picked up by NBC until June 2nd, 1950. When Light of the World signed off, The Open Door signed on at 10:30. Created by Sandra Michael, The Open Door was a purposely slow-moving, character building show built around Dean Eric Hansen of the fictional Vernon University. The stories involved people in his life: their problems, lives, and loves. The star, Dr. Alfred Dorf had known Sandra Michael since her childhood in Denmark. He'd come to America to establish a church in Brooklyn and was the true inspiration behind the character. Unfortunately, the agency handling the sponsor's account didn't like the direction of the series. They pressured Sandra Michael into changing the show, but she resisted and the show was canceled after June 30th, 1944. Once The Open Door signed off, Bachelor's Children signed on at 10:45. It featured Hugh Studebaker as Dr. Bob Graham, a bachelor who took in his dying friend's 18-year-old twin daughters. Marjorie Hannan played Ruth Ann, the kind, thoughtful twin, and Patricia Dunlap played Janet, the fiery and impulsive twin. Olan Soule played Sam Ryder. He was, perhaps, best known for co-starring with Barbara Luddy on The First Nighter.
“Hey! It's you guys. I didn't know you'd be on the ship!” It takes me two full seconds to recognize the tall, lean Italian with dark eyes and grey-speckled beard stubble before a surge of joy-filled love overtakes me. I embrace him with one arm and squeeze my husband's wrist in the elevator bay crowded with men in costumes. “Dennis! Look who it is!” We are taking a bathroom break during the first themed dance party of the seven-day March 2024 Atlantis Events (99% gay) cruise on the Valiant Lady, a Virgin Voyages ship that left from and will return to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The theme of tonight's dance party is “Tropical Heat,” we are wearing black lines of “warrior paint” on our faces, red headbands, red tights, and the one pair of black Adidas sneakers that will need to support every activity this week. “Oh, my gawd! It is so good to see you!” says Dennis, squeezing through the crowd to give him a full-bodied hug. We met this man and his beautiful husband precisely three years ago on this same ship in the Mediterranean, out of Barcelona. Our connection on the dance floor translated into two memorable visits to our private stateroom with the four of us. It was a connection unlike most of the others because of its effortless blend of intense erotic pleasure and sensitive, emotional openness. I was genuinely sad when we said goodbye in the galley food area on the last day of that cruise in 2021. This is what keeps us coming back. Freedom. Joy. Sex. But mostly, love. These cruises provide what is no longer offered on land (in the United States): a 24/7 space dedicated to gay men's comfort and delight for all ages and body types. This is my seventh cruise with Atlantis, and I've learned that the cornucopia of activities available makes it possible for every kind of gay, no matter his age, body type, activity interests, or cultural inclinations, to have a blissful journey. These cruises have something for every kind of gay. * Circut Party Gays * His body and wardrobe are maximized for dancefloor impact. * Wearing either a minimal thong & face full of glitter, or a full-blown themed group costume with yards of fabric blowing in the sea air, posing for a group photo. * Often embodied in one of the most objectively beautiful physiques on the ship. * Pupils dilated, he sometimes never sees the light of day. * He emerges after dark, is at least an hour late to the party, and routinely closes down the after-party at 6:30 AM.* Standard Narrative Gays* Wearing the latest short-sleeved button-down shirt from L.L. Bean. * They are having the cruise your mom might have.* They have booked as many excursions off the ship as possible.* Discussion about open relationships never happened before the cruise, and they'd prefer that other gays stop bringing it up.* Alcohol is the only acceptable drug, and there is always a drink in their hand.* They have a persistent neurotic expression, asking, “What if pics of this get out?” * Old Gays * Wearing whatever the fuck they want, which is either complete comfort or full fabulous. * These men are genuinely happy to be alive and willing to engage with anyone who makes eye contact. * They make eye contact. * Many are up early, enjoying the sunrise.* The oldest (I chatted up a 92-year-old) get decked out in the party themes of red, white, pink, etc. Find a seat overlooking the dance floor and remain transfixed for hours, chatting with the oldster beside him as the Virgin staff keep them hydrated. * Sluty Gays* Wearing their best guy-getting gear. Often in St33le shorts. * Looking for every opportunity to suck it, stick it in, or receive. * Down Low (DL) sluts project all their assets: butts out on the dance floor, styled super sexy on the pool deck, etc., but need to be out of sight of their friends to “go downstairs.” * Open sluts, wearing something similar, will make offers and respond to sexual proposals casually, without shame. * Guys in Slut Mode stalk the dick deck (a part of the ship designated for anonymous sex), know the good bathrooms for hook-ups, and are always ready to “go downstairs.”* Sober Gays* They show up to the party ready to engage (dance, hookup, whatever) without needing their drugs to kick in. * They are at the dance parties early and seldom see the sun come up. * Their erections are much more predictable than dosing Circut Gays and drunk Standard Narrative Gays. * Their conversations are much easier to follow. * They have Bill W. meetings to assist with cruise overwhelm. * Twink Gays* Rare, but there.* Cruises take money and planning. Both are rare attributes of youth. * Often part of a red state May/December coupling.* Free agent twinks also appear to be seasoned circuit party raver types. * They are thoroughly informed on party protocol but still new to the planet, so what you see is usually what you get. * Foodie & Spa Gays* The food on this ship, in particular, is varied and impressive. On other ships, it has tasted like a bland mall food court buffet. Virgin Atlantic attracts men with sensitive pallets and inspires food simpletons like me to humbly bow in the direction of the chef. * The spa is an oasis within the oasis of the ship. An oasis from complementing clever outfits, commenting on the music, or sharing your plans for the evening.* Show Girl Gays* These cruises deliver what every audience member anywhere has ever wanted. They make you laugh, they make you cry, and they make your dick hard.* These gays plan their day around the show. Dinner, a party, or a hookup must accommodate getting the best seat at the show. I've done Atlantis cruises as a Slutty/Sober/Circuitish/Show-Girl-Gay. On this cruise, I was mainly a Circuit/Sluty/Foddie/Spa-Gay who took advantage of the excellent room service options available 24/7. We only got off the ship once, for 45 minutes, to get shaving cream. There is so much we didn't see. We planned our week's agenda to accommodate three nights of intense partying. All three party nights were followed by a day at the spa, dinner, and sometimes a show. That was my cruise. Here's my advice: Have the cruise YOU want. No one is preventing you from doing that except for YOU. You are not required to attend anything, but everything is there if you want to taste the buffet. The only thing you can NOT do, is do it ALL. Make conscious choices, and you'll be one of the men who crowd into the elevator on your way to your next pleasure with a smile on your face, sharing a silent nod of satisfaction with guys looking back at you who'd never look up from their phones on land. The ship is a magical, ephemeral space that lasts only a week (or a bit longer), where being a gay man is the norm, and straight people are there to serve you. Shared conversations occur between all types at dinner, the pool, after the show, and during parties. Are there some men shut down by fear & trauma and unable to communicate? Yes. Have compassion for their internal turmoil (regardless of how pretty or plain they are) and turn to one of the thousands of other men ready to embrace you. It's great practice for “real life.” I'm glad I chose to dance with the men in front of me, ready to embrace me, rather than chase the ones I thought had the most social status because of their beauty. I made a conscious effort to refrain from trying to win the party. I've made the opposite choice enough times to know that kind of grasping causes me pain. Ironically, not trying to win the party, brought some underwear model specimens toward me for a few euphoric genuflections to Eros, giving thanks for our shared virility and their youthful innocence. It also brought me into communion with a pair of men, one 50 and the other 70. A couple I spent hours with celebrating the company of Dyonisis, allowing the wisdom of many years on the planet to inform the sweetness of the moment born from the light and shadow of life. Who, in addition to enjoying the passions of love and sex, were able to hold space for insanity and the ritual madness of our gay past the youth will hopefully never really know. So much is possible. Or maybe you're more of a champagne brunch, drag queen, bingo kinda gay. Please sit down your coffee, hold my hand, and tell me all about it as the pink of the sunrise reflects off my tights, announcing the close of last night's white party and the beginning of another day full of possibility. Christina's Escapades at the Pet Shop by Julie Navarrette With her parents still urging her to decide what she wants to major in when she goes to college, her annoying brother giving her advice, and her parents telling her she must help them pay a hefty vet bill when her dog injures his leg, Christina Redstone is on a mission to show everyone around her that she can solve her problems on her own, although sometimes she needs a little help from her best friend, Jenae. She sees a chance to prove herself when money turns up missing at her job at the pet store and she's determined to find the culprit. As she investigates, she finds the store needs help financially. Along the way, she's also in the middle of an emotional battle between her feelings for a regular customer at the store who's in a band she likes and a co-worker who flirts with her at the shop. Will she find the thief and choose the right relationship to prove that she can make good decisions by herself?Originally from Hartselle, Alabama, USA, Julie Navarrette graduated from the University of North Alabama with a B.A. in journalism and music. In 1999, she partnered with Ed Hansen Productions, Inc., on a fantasy film, The Valiant Lady. In addition to teaching private piano and voice for over twenty years, she has written the prequel to this book, A Job for Christina, and Dirk and His Musical Friends. Built from the ground up by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, Resilient Lady is a mid-size ship weighing 110,000 gross tons like her sister ships in the fleet: Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady.Built in the Sestri Ponente shipyard in Genoa, Resilient Lady marks the brand's third completed vessel in the span of just two years, a notable accomplishment for any brand, and an even taller task for a new company that launched just last year. On May 14, 2023, Resilient Lady will embark on her MerMaiden voyage around the Greek Isles, making stops in Santorini, Rhodes, Bodrum and Mykonos before returning to her homeport in Piraeus, Athens. The ship will sail two, eight-night itineraries including the “Greek Island Glow” with the aforementioned route, and the “Adriatic Sea and Greek Gems,” complete with calls in the beautiful cities of Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor and Corfu. After her inaugural season in the Med, Resilient Lady will embark on a 44-night repositioning voyage, heading Down Under for a winter season in Australia and New Zealand. Starting Oct. 22, 2023, the ship will depart Athens before stopping in some of the most exotic locales the brand has yet to introduce including Cairo, Dubai, Bali, Mumbai, Phuket and Singapore. She'll finally arrive in Sydney on Dec. 4, 2023 for a series of celebrations, media sneak peeks and more.In addition to her sleek cabin interiors, Resilient Lady will feature the brand's six, Michelin-inspired restaurants, 20+ eateries, a curated line-up of live entertainment, design-forward bars, oceanside hangout retreats and incredible service. Perfectly integrating into a unique experience on the ocean, Virgin Voyages has developed a one-of-a-kind vacation being recognized by Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveller and US News & World Report. Most recently, the line received three industry awards from Cruise Critic including the award for best dining, and received its most coveted award for Best New Ship in 2021 for Scarlet Lady.MSC welcomes 21st ship to the fleet! On the evening of 7 December, the world's third largest and fastest growing cruise brand MSC Cruises welcomed MSC Seascape to its fleet of innovative ships. The line's newest flagship was officially named at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City in recognition of the addition of New York as a new homeport in April 2023. The event was attended by more than 3,000 guests including VIPs, key travel partners and media as well as top management from the entire Cruise Division of the company and its parent MSC Group. One of the highlights of the traditional maritime ceremony was a stunning performance from international singer-songwriter Matteo Bocelli, hot off the heels of his performance at the naming ceremony of MSC World Europa last month.Godmother of the MSC Cruises fleet and international movie icon Sophia Loren blessed the ship virtually whilst Alexa Aponte-Vago, daughter of MSC Group's founder and executive chairman Gianluigi Aponte, performed the traditional cutting of the ribbon to officially name the ship. Loren shared her good luck wishes for the new ship and commented: “One of the highlights of the past 20 years has been to officiate the christening of MSC Cruises fleet not only because the Apontes have become like family to me but also because MSC has always occupied a special place in my heart. Let me bless the MSC Seascape, her great crew and all her passengers.”Following the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a gourmet gala dinner and standout performance by international Grammy Award winner singer/songwriter Ne-Yo.MSC Seascape becomes the 21st ship in the MSC Cruises fleet and the second ship to be launched in less than one month after MSC World Europa launched in November. She will be closely followed by the line's second LNG-powered vessel MSC Euribia, due to come into service in June 2023.Carnival Celebration debuts expanded youth programmeCarnival Celebration is introducing an expanded youth program including new enrichment activities for children, teens and families, as well as an update to Carnival's popular Dr. Seuss Bookville. Symphony of the Seas, tàu du lịch lớn nhất thế giới, dài tới 362m, có 11 bể bơi, 25 nhà hàng, 24 thang máy và cả sân trượt băng.

Presumable they are not new builds?Cruise NewsP&O Cruises Pacific Encounter on the Way from Singapore to Join Flagship Pacific Explorer in AustraliaPacific Encounter, the latest addition to the P&O Cruises Australia fleet, today sailed from Singapore on her way to Australia, another step in the revival of Australia's $5 billion a year cruise industry.Pacific Encounter will sail into Sydney Harbour on August 2 where flagship Pacific Explorer is already home ported having become the first of Australia's home-grown cruise line to return home after more than two years.Encounter's time in Sydney will be a relatively ‘brief encounter' before heading to Brisbane where she will continue the long tradition of basing P&O ships at the epicentre of the Queensland cruise market.Pacific Encounter will depart on her first guest cruise from Brisbane on August 20, a 7-night Barrier Reef Discovery Cruise.Silversea acquires Crystal Endeavor Royal Caribbean Group has been confirmed as the purchaser of the Crystal Endeavor expedition yacht which was on the auction block following the collapse of Crystal Cruises parent Genting Hong Kong. The ship will sail under RCG's Silversea Cruises brand as Silver Endeavour – the fifth expedition ship in the line's 11-strong fleet – with the company paying USD$275 million for the vessel. The purchase price is significantly less than the USD$385 million which Genting Hong Kong paid for the ship's construction, making it the most expensive passenger ship ever built at USD$1.9m per berth.Endeavour, which was delivered to Crystal just last year has capacity for 200 guests, as well as a submarine and helicopter, which Silversea MD Roberto Martinoli said would no longer be part of its offering. She will sail in Antarctica in place of the 132-guest Silver Explorer, with guests booked on that ship to be moved to Endeavour.Costa Group Starts the use of Bio FuelsA few weeks after announcing the creation of its dedicated decarbonization department, the Costa Group, Europe's leading cruise operator with its two companies Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises, and a member of Carnival Corporation & plc, has taken a major step forward in its decarbonization strategy by announcing that it will start testing the usage of biofuel aboard one of its AIDA Cruises ships. As part of its CO2 emissions reduction efforts, on July 21, 2022, AIDAprima became the first larger scale cruise ship to be bunkered with a blend of marine biofuel, which is made from 100 percent sustainable raw materials such as waste cooking oil, and marine gas oil (MGO) during its layover in Rotterdam. The cooperation partner is the Dutch biofuel pioneer GoodFuels. AIDAprima is currently sailing on seven-day voyages to the metropolises of Western Europe and to Norway from/to Hamburg. The current project represents an important milestone of the Costa Group's decarbonization strategy, which includes testing technologies and processes to improve the efficiency of the existing fleet. With the successful start of biofuel usage, it will be proven that gradual decarbonization is possible even on ships already in service. An important prerequisite to be able to use biofuels, however, is that it becomes widely available on an industrial scale and at marketable prices.Carnival Cruise Line Brings Texas Flair to Carnival Jubilee's Keel Laying CeremonyCarnival Jubilee is fixing to start sailing from Galveston, Texas, next year and Carnival Cruise Line's third cruise ship to be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) got its first taste of Texas today with the keel laying ceremony at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.Wearing cowboy-shaped hard hats, Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy was joined by Meyer Werft Managing Director Bernard Meyer and Carnival's Senior Vice President of Newbuilds Ben Clement, among others, to celebrate the construction milestone by placing coins under a 375-ton keel block. The coins signify good luck for the ship and will remain under its foundation as the structure is built. One of the ship's lucky coins is an official ship coin, which commemorates an important part of Carnival history while celebrating its future by showing Carnival Jubilee alongside the original MS Jubilee from 1986. The coins will later be placed in a special compartment near Carnival Jubilee's mast as permanent fixtures of the ship.Carnival Jubilee will be the first Carnival Cruise Line ship built in Papenburg, Germany. Meyer Werft has already built four other LNG-powered ships for other cruise lines under Carnival Corporation. Carnival Jubilee will be Carnival's third ship to run on a liquified natural gas (LNG) technology platform. Carnival Corporation pioneered the introduction of LNG fuel in the passenger cruise sector as part of the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and emissions reduction. Meyer Turku in Finland delivered sister ship Mardi Gras last year and will deliver Carnival Celebration later this year.Carnival Jubilee will begin sailing from Galveston in November of 2023 and will offer seven-day Western Caribbean cruise vacations with stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, as well as Mahogany Bay (Isla Roatan), Honduras.Virgin Voyages relaxes Voyage Well In response to the conclusion of the CDC's voluntary program, Virgin Voyages will continue to consider the recommendations set forth by the organization, while also adhering to the industry policies outlined by CLIA. As a result of this update, Virgin Voyages will remove the requirements for pre-embarkation testing.Virgin Voyages has responded immediately to the CDC's decision to discontinue their voluntary COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships and will mirror the rest of the travel industry in removing pre-embarkation testing for sailings from July 24 on EU sailings, and from July 27 on US sailings. Vaccine requirements will remain in place for both Scarlet Lady, operating out of the US, and Valiant Lady in the EU. Virgin Voyages is currently evaluating this policy and will announce further updates in the near future.Passenger and crew well-being is the major focus and they continue to follow the advice of their expert medical team. To clarify these updates:From the dates mentioned above, passengers will no longer be required to complete a pre-embarkation COVID test, applicable across the fleet, including US and EU operations. For US sailings, passenger vaccination requirements will now be marked at 90%. Despite adverse weather conditions, Captain Sinisi was able to ensure the safety of his guests while simultaneously putting in place a timely intervention, which turned out to be providential for the success of the rescue operations. With his behavior, he brought prestige to the image of Italian Navy in the institutional framework.”The rescue that is referred to happened on November 21, 2018. At around midnight, Costa Luminosa – sailing south of the Peloponnese and heading towards the port of Katakolon – received a distress call from the Greek Coast Guard's Rescue Coordination Center. Commander Sinisi was asked to provide aid to the motor vessel “Kilic,” a cargo ship used to transport fish, which was in serious trouble due to an outbreak of fire on board. The crew of eleven men were rescued by a Costa Luminosa tender steered by Safety Officer Marco Genovese, and then transshipped to another cargo ship previously involved in operations by the Greek Coast GuardAnd more...Join the show:If you have a cruise tip, burning question or want to record a cruise review get in touch with us via the website https://thebigcruisepodcast.com/join-the-show/ Guests: Chris Frame: https://bit.ly/3a4aBCg Chris's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisFrameOfficialPeter Kollar: https://www.cruising.org.au/Home Listen & Subscribe: Amazon Podcasts: https://amzn.to/3w40cDcApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2XvD7tF Audible: https://adbl.co/3nDvuNgCastbox: https://bit.ly/2xkGBEI Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/2RuY04u I heart Radio: https://ihr.fm/3mVIEUASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3caCwl8 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2JWE8Tz Pocket casts: https://bit.ly/2JY4J2M Tune in: https://bit.ly/2V0Jrrs Podcast Addict: https://bit.ly/2BF6LnE Hosted on Acast. The ship's arrival marks the first ever ship to be homeported at the new state-of-the-art Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) and the first of Princess Cruises' MedallionClass vessels to call Australia home.Building on the momentum of sister line, P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Explorer's first sailing from Sydney last week, Coral Princess is set to depart on its first guest cruise on June 16, 2022The 2000-guest ship will offer 11 cruises departing Brisbane ranging from 3-12 nights between June and August before returning for another 10 cruises this summer from November. The MedallionClass ship will make 48 calls to the State's ports this year, including her first visits to Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, Cairns and Port Douglas.Virgin Voyages Revises Launch Schedule for Third Ship, Resilient LadyA decision rooted in guaranteeing the delivery of brilliant guest and crew experiences, Virgin Voyages will defer the upcoming launch of its third Lady Ship to Q2 2023. Initially scheduled to set sail from Athens mid-August of this year, Resilient Lady will remain in Genoa getting on-board work completed, hitting the high seas next spring. As part of an ambitious launch sequence, Virgin Voyages is now operating two ships, its first, Scarlet Lady in the Caribbean and second, Valiant Lady in the Med. Despite challenges stemming from the pandemic, the new brand introduced two ships in the span of a year, including the launch of its new Terminal V at PortMiami in February. As an experience-led brand with strong ties to the Virgin legacy of disrupting industries, Virgin Voyages did not land on this decision lightly, and despite making tremendous strides alongside the cruise industry as a whole, the brand is not immune to the global challenges the world is facing. This includes supply chain obstacles, a level of regional uncertainty for international travellers and crewing challenges. While this delay was not anticipated, Virgin Voyages is successfully operating its first two Lady Ships and looks forward to welcoming Resilient Lady to its fleet early next year, with its fourth ship in the fleet, Brilliant Lady, soon thereafter.Carnival deploys Menu Mate Extensive dining options help feed the fun at Carnival Cruise Line, and as anyone with food allergies knows, having a variety of healthy choices is more than just enjoyable – but also important to safety. That's why Carnival is now introducing the Menu Mate™ food ingredient program fleetwide to accommodate guests with special diets more efficiently than ever.Easily operated on touch-screen tablets at food venues across the Carnival fleet , the Menu Mate food ingredient program is powered by award-winning CertiStar software to mitigate the risks of allergic reactions. The new program is the first of its kind among major cruise lines. The program eliminates the lengthy process of conferring between guests, wait staff and chefs over the ingredients of menu items and possible substitutions. Now that the process of selecting items with allergen friendly ingredients is simplified, it is also no longer necessary for guests to inform Carnival of food allergies in advance of their cruise.NCLH Steps up commitment to Sail Sustainably Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has released its 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, as part of its Sail & Sustain program,Highlights from the report include:Committing to pursue net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across the operations and value chainDeveloping short and near-term greenhouse gas reductions to support the path to net zeroInvestigating the feasibility of retrofitting existing engines to operate with both diesel and methanol fuelsAiming to test the use of methanol fuel by 2025Setting a target for approximately 70% of the fleet to be equipped with shore power capabilities by 2025Offsetting three million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent from 2021-2023 to help bridge the gap in decarbonisation efforts whilst exploring long-term alternative fuel solutionsSeabourn is celebrating the return of its entire fleetSeabourn Sojourn return to service on June 6, 2022, from Athens, Greece for a sun-soaked European summer. The ultra-luxury cruise line now has all five of its ships in operation for the first time since March 2020. The excitement will continue for the line when Seabourn Venture, the first of the line's two ultra-luxury, purpose-built expedition ships, embarks on its inaugural expedition this summerHolland America Line's Holds Naming Ceremony for RotterdamHolland America Line's flagship Rotterdam received the royal treatment in a ceremony rich with Dutch heritage May 30, 2022, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands served as godmother and officially named the ship in front of invited dignitaries and guests.Upon arrival, Princess Margriet was welcomed at the gangway with a traditional floral bouquet presented by seven-year-old Nora van Dijk, daughter of Nathalie van Dijk, who has been with Holland America Line for 15 years, most recently as a business development representative in sales in the Rotterdam office. During the daytime naming celebration, Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald, Holland America Group President Jan Swartz, Rotterdam Captain Werner Timmers, Lord Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb and Mariner Ambassadors David and Gisela Gere joined Princess Margriet to officially welcome Rotterdam to the fleet.Holland America Line's connection to The House of Orange goes back nearly a century to Prince Hendrik launching Statendam III in 1929. Since then, members of the Dutch Royal Family have launched 11 more Holland America Line vessels throughout the years, including Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet who named Prinsendam (1972), Nieuw Amsterdam II (1983), Rotterdam VI (1997) and Oosterdam (2003).Additional members of the Dutch Royal Family who are godmothers include Queen Máxima, who named Koningsdam in 2016 and Nieuw Amsterdam in 2010. Then-Queen Beatrix served as Eurodam's godmother in 2008. Rotterdam V was launched in 1958 by Queen Juliana. Then-Princess Beatrix named Statendam IV in 1957 and Prinses Margriet in 1960. Nieuw Amsterdam II was launched by Queen Wilhelmina in 1937.The third vessel in the Pinnacle Class series and the seventh ship to bear the name for Holland America Line, Rotterdam carries 2,668 guests and features highly successful amenities and innovations introduced with her sister ships.Windstar Cruises' Reimagined Star Pride Makes Debut in GreeceWindstar Cruises announces the debut of its all-suite Star Plus Class Star Pride yacht today, sailing from Athens on a sold-out, eight-day voyage to Barcelona, stopping at ports including Gythion, Corfu, Argostoli, Messina (Taormina), Trapani, and Cagliari. Star Pride is the third and final of Windstar's Star Plus Class yachts to emerge from Italy's Fincantieri shipyard following a complex lengthening and transformation project. Now, all six of the line's all-suite and sailing yachts are back in the water cruising while requiring vaccines of all passengers and crew amongst a host of health and safety precautions including testing and high-tech air filtration. The line's three all-suite Star Plus Class yachts (Star Breeze, Star Legend, and Star Pride) underwent major transformations, with an investment of more than $250 million. Star Breeze was the first to launch in June of 2021, with Star Legend as the second in September of 2021, showcasing new suites and expanded outdoor and indoor public spaces. The yachts are also more environmentally friendly with new efficient engines, generators, and advanced wastewater treatment systems. All three yachts increased in maximum capacity from 212 guests to 312 and provide more of what Windstar's customers want, like additional dining experiences (one is an outdoor barbecue concept with grilling guru Steven Raichlen and the other a Spanish small plates restaurant from Anthony Sasso, one of the youngest chefs to be recognized by the Michelin Guide), a true spa and fitness center, an elegant infinity pool, and more outdoor deck areas.A new build for PandawLaunching in mid-2023 the RV Song Hong, which means Red River, will join the company's highly successful RV Angkor on its routing through North Vietnam's Red and Black River network from Halong Bay to the mountains beyond. The Angkor is so popular it books out months in advance so there is a real need for a second ship on this routing. With just ten enlarged staterooms, going a bit bigger than the classic much-loved Pandaw cabin, this expedition vessel will like all Pandaw ships have an ultra-shallow draft to enable it to cope with such tricky waterways.Pandaw first opened on the Red River in 2015 and it has been one of the company's most successful small ship routings offering a real insight into the life and culture of North Vietnam with its amazing scenery and time spent in and around the capital Hanoi. The new ship will be built in the region at Hai-phong, and fitted out in hardwood from sustainable forestry. It will have the usual Pandaw promenades running around the ship that are conducive to so convivial and atmosphere on board and a choice of indoor or outdoor dining, in the spacious saloon or aft deck.Proof of vaccination or recovery is no longer required on A-ROSA cruisesFrom 4 June 2022 participating in cruises of A-ROSA Flussschiff GmbH will again be possible without proof of vaccination, recovery or a certified negative test result. The cruise line has adapted its hygiene protocol to the relaxed European entry regulations. After the removal of the mask mandate on board as well as the rapid antigen test upon boarding, this is the next major relaxation step.An exception is the A-ROSA ALVA in Portugal. Here, due to regional regulations, guests over 12 years of age continue to require proof of complete vaccination or recovery from COVID-19 in order to participate in Douro cruises. In addition, the requirement to wear a mask and the need for a rapid antigen test prior to boarding remain in place. The additional hygiene measures such as the strengthened cleaning and disinfection protocols are maintained everywhere onboard. The A-ROSA Care Team continues to closely monitor the very dynamic developments and will adapt the protection and hygiene protocol to changing circumstances if necessary.Since the start of the season in March 2022, the A-ROSA ships have once again been sailing on the Rhine, Danube, Douro, Rhône and Seine. Guests can enjoy high-quality drinks all day as well as breakfast, lunch, coffee and dinner as a buffet in the premium all-inclusive tariff. The SPA-ROSA with sauna, fitness room, massages and wellness treatments as well as the pool are open without restrictions. Individual shore excursions are just as possible as organized tours.Carol is tuned in to the music of cruising Professional musician, Carol Johns, fine tuning one of P&O Cruises Australia's flagship Pacific Explorer's pianos. The fine tuning of P&O Cruises Australia's flagship Pacific Explorer extends to also fine tuning the ship's five beautiful pianos. After more than two years of not sounding a note, the onboard pianos needed some special tender loving care from piano tuner Carol Johns.A professional musician, Carol has a good ear for the music of cruising and so it was for her a labour of love to strike the right note with Pacific Explorer's pianos.According to Carol, it takes about two hours to tune a piano properly and she also acknowledged that two years of no playing had taken a toll on Pacific Explorer's five.“After nearly two and a half years, they've got themselves to under concert pitch so you have to lift them back up to get them in tune,” Carol said.“That happens with any piano but it's exaggerated because of the time and being on a ship is a tough time for a piano.“It takes about two hours to tune a piano if you want to make it really beautiful because there are about 88 notes but there are more than 220 strings and they've all got to be tuned, some of them more than once.”During normal operations, piano tuners made regular “ship calls” to P&O Cruises ships but that was impossible during the pause when the fleet was far from their Australian home. After being carefully tuned by Carol, the pianos will be glad to be home as well. And moreJoin the show:If you have a cruise tip, burning question or want to record a cruise review get in touch with us via the website https://thebigcruisepodcast.com/join-the-show/ Guests: Chris Frame: https://bit.ly/3a4aBCg Chris's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisFrameOfficialPeter Kollar: https://www.cruising.org.au/Home Listen & Subscribe: Amazon Podcasts: https://amzn.to/3w40cDcApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2XvD7tF Audible: https://adbl.co/3nDvuNgCastbox: https://bit.ly/2xkGBEI Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/2RuY04u I heart Radio: https://ihr.fm/3mVIEUASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3caCwl8 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2JWE8Tz Pocket casts: https://bit.ly/2JY4J2M Tune in: https://bit.ly/2V0Jrrs Podcast Addict: https://bit.ly/2BF6LnE Hosted on Acast. Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Danielle from Virgin Voyages, and we did a little different format this time. We chatted about what there is to do onboard their ~ soon-to-be three ~ ships. . Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady, and Scarlet Lady are sister ships. They have the same layout, so you will know your way around each ship after you sail on one. . I cannot believe how many activities there are to choose from! I think I will be spending way too much time in their video arcade playing Pac-Man or Space Invaders. I hope they have Donkey Kong! . What do you think about this new format? Please let me know in the comments. . Next were Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady, two sister ships with names that celebrate women's strong, fierce, and independent spirits. These beautiful vessels are helmed by two beautiful and diverse mermaids to match.WHY: Like Brilliant Lady's predecessors, Virgin Voyages was extremely thoughtful when selecting a name that would boldly stand alongside her sister ships. We sought out a name that exemplifies our brand's values and ethos, the truest representation of our mission to “Create an Epic Sea Change For All.” As our goal has always been to create a bright and radiant experience for our Sailors — much like the sparkling seas Brilliant Lady will sail on — it was only appropriate that our fourth ship name reflect that.Brilliance — which means both radiance along with exceptional talent and intelligence — was purposefully chosen for the duality of its meaning. On every sailing, Virgin Voyages' ultimate goal is to leave our Sailors with a glowing review and having enjoyed one of the best vacations of their lives. In naming the ship Brilliant Lady, Virgin Voyages also aim to highlight the powerful intelligence of women across the globe. Brilliant Lady represents the smart, thoughtful, boundary-pushing minds of women around the world — unafraid of owning their intelligence, aware of their importance, and confidently in touch with their own sense of self worth.Calling all Travel AgentsSpecial Shout out to All First Mates (travel agents).
