Welcome to Episode 37! https://sustainable-ecom.com/ep37 There is no doubt that as an industry, both by making physical products and shipping them to customers, we have some challenges around packaging. We've already had some great sustainable packaging suppliers on the show including the Better Packaging Company as well as HeapsGood, but the sharp eyes among you may have noticed the logo for this podcast includes Mushroom mycelium block. Back when we were just starting up the podcast I thought that mushroom packaging was one of the coolest and most interesting material development concepts in the sustainable ecommerce space, and I still do. For that reason, In our last interview of 2022, I wanted to take us back and explore this space a little further. My guest today is Amanda Morgan, Co-Founder and CEO of Fungi solution. Their mission is to divert material from landfill are repurpose it in the production of alternatives to single use plastics. In this interview we learn just how important fungi can be in both the reduction of trash as well as fighting climate change, and of course how you can incorporate mushroom packaging in your supply chain.

Even though brothels are legal in parts of the state, its relationship with sex is still fraught. Las Vegas, "Sin City," thrives on selling a certain type of sex but criminalizes others. Amanda Morgan is in the corps of the prestigious Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) based in Seattle. PNB is one of the largest and best-regarded companies in the United States with a deep commitment to racial diversity. Although people of color comprise 26 percent of its dancers, Morgan is its only black female ballet dancer—add to that her height of five foot ten inches, and you have someone who stands out rather than fits in. But Morgan decided long ago that “if you don't see what you want to see around you, create it." And so she has. Finding herself not picked by choreographers, she began to create dances herself; she co-founded a mentorship program between company dancers and students at Pacific Northwest Ballet School; she began the Seattle Project, an interdisciplinary artist collective that presents performing arts to the community; and she spoke at protests in Seattle about pervasive racism—calling out the ballet community at large for its lack of racial equity. Morgan is talented, determined, and outspoken. In this podcast we talk about her love of ballet—both as a dancer and a choreographer, her appreciation for being part of the PNB family, her belief that ballet has to change and embrace real inclusion from the studio to the boardroom in order to thrive, and the work she's done to help bring that change about.
But Morgan decided long ago that “if you don’t see what you want to see around you, create it." And so she has. In this podcast we talk about her love of ballet—both as a dancer and a choreographer, her appreciation for being part of the PNB family, her belief that ballet has to change and embrace real inclusion from the studio to the boardroom in order to thrive, and the work she’s done to help bring that change about.

this weeks story of timing is with Amanda Morgan! excited to bring you this episode for so many reasons: -this is the first story that involves male diagnosis only. this was Such a great perspective for me and so relatable because although our stories are somewhat different - they have many similarities and it brought up a lot of questions for me personally that you'll be able to hear me ask like: am i delaying the inevitable ? and what if I have this IVF back up plan but it doesn't actually work? -this is not an IVF horror story!! This is proof (and hope) that it's possible to do just one round and be successful on that round -We also talk about this very REAL feeling of having to grieve the perfect cute way to surprise your husband with a pregnancy when he already knows it could be coming -focusing more on your feelings of hope rather than feelings of fear (if its even possible) -And my favorite part, she ends it by saying - feel free to reach out to me - if you need a friend or want to talk, please reach out i will always be happy to hear from you . sometimes its easy to feel like yours on an island - no one else that your friends with is going through IVF and feel like you have no one to talk to about it- then start to talk to people about it an realize so many other going through; one of my favorite parts about this podcast is the new friends I'm making -Thank you Amanda for being so brave and sharing your story with us. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode discusses adolescent sexual abuse. Amanda Morgan is a woman who wears many hats. She is a wife and mother, an amazing singer, an actress, a photographer, and an extraordinary chef. She really does do it all and does it well. While balancing all this, just within the last year she has had to make the excruciating decision to distance her self from the extended members of their family due to alleged inappropriate behavior. She tell us her excruciatingly painful, yet heroic story of choosing herself and her kids, and the lengths she would go to to protect them, and facilitate healing. You can find Amanda at @freebirdandcompany on instagram, and look out for her new Indian taco food truck called, @basmatifoodtruck
In this episode we talk with Amanda Morgan, who's been in charge of billion dollar warships, moved her family around the world, opened a can of 'self understanding' through the Enneagram, and still remains determined to create and invite others into family wherever she finds herself. (Reference made to the Enneagram in the podcast is from 'The Road Back To You' - by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile.) - It's excellent!
My guest this week is Amanda Morgan, who holds a BA in both elementary and early childhood education and an MS in family and human development. Her past experience includes teaching in public, private, and migrant school settings as well as teaching preschoolers, grade-schoolers, college students, teachers, and parents. She writes, speaks, and trains on the topic of intentional, whole child development and is the creator of the blog, Not Just Cute. In her free time, she can usually be found exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband and four boys or procuring copious amounts of chocolate. In this episode, Amanda and I discuss what developmentally appropriate practices are and how they are essential for our children's individual learning and development process. Often children are faced with expectations in the classroom that are far from where they stand developmentally resulting in behavioral issues and developmental delays. These issues occur starting in pre-school and often carry into high school levels. Learn more as Amanda helps navigate and explain the why's of our school system expectations and how parents and teachers can advocate for their children and students. To learn more about Amanda click here. Episode Highlights Developmentally Appropriate Practice Taking what we know about how children grow and learn and ensuring those principals and understandings are being applied within the home and school environments Respecting childhood in and of itself and for each individual learner Results of Shift in School Expectations Behavior issues become an immediate problem when school expectations do not “match” where they are developmentally This simply relates to the fact that these children are not the actual age they are expecting to be at Expecting a 3-yr to act like a 6-yr old only ends in frustration for both involved Inappropriate academic expectations usually take the place of play and social skills and interactions Academic struggle results from this as children miss the hands-on play experiences before jumping to performance-based tasks like worksheets etc. How Did We End Up Here? When we start to work from fear, competition, and comparison we realize how we are poorly focused only on performance and testing What Can We Do To Address This? As parents: where can we slow down in our home and offer outlets for more movement or sensory interactions? Looking to address whatever it is they need more or less of Do not understand your voice as a parent for your child and their peers to administration, never stop advocating As teachers: Use your knowledge on developmentally-appropriate practices and get creative with the “homework” that is required instead of the routine textbook worksheets Amanda's example: former 2nd-grade teacher of her son gave assignments on a point system of completion with activities to do while at home such as; help your family make dinner, take care of your animal, play outside, help a neighbor Where to learn more about Amanda Morgan… Not Just Cute Blog Why We Play Twitter Facebook Youtube Connect with Dr. Nicole Beurkens on...
