Introduction Do your thoughts sometimes feel like a runaway train—racing fast, loud, and always headed in the wrong direction? If you've ever caught yourself spiraling into self-doubt, negative thinking, or mental burnout… you're not alone. And it's not your fault. Your brain has been wired by years of habit, repetition, and subconscious programming. But here's the truth most people won't tell you: You can rewire it. You can build new mental maps. You can reshape your patterns. You can reclaim your focus, your clarity, and your edge. In this article, we're diving into Cognitive Behavioral Strategies—battle-tested tools designed to transform your thinking, break toxic cycles, and fortify your mind for peak performance. Whether you're a burned-out executive, a high-achiever stuck in stagnation, or simply tired of your own mental roadblocks, this is your mental reset button. What Are Cognitive Behavioral Strategies? Let's strip away the fluff. Cognitive Behavioral Strategies are not about “thinking positive” or plastering affirmations over chaos. They're about getting tactical with your mind. At their core, these strategies stem from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—a scientific method used to identify, challenge, and change destructive thought patterns. But you don't need a therapist's couch to use them. Think of CBT like a software update for your brain. It helps you identify the faulty mental scripts—those sneaky thoughts that sabotage your progress before you even take action. It also teaches you to understand how those thoughts directly trigger your emotional state and your behaviors. Most importantly, it guides you to replace those old scripts with empowering, evidence-based beliefs that support your growth. And here's why that matters: Your thoughts don't just affect how you feel—they determine how you perform. Every behavior begins as a thought. Change your thoughts, change your outcomes. Rewiring Negative Thought Patterns Most people walk around with what psychologists call ANTs—Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are fast, sneaky, and often false beliefs that whisper things like: “You'll never be good enough.” “Why bother trying?” “It's always been this way.” They don't scream—they whisper. Subtle, corrosive thoughts that slip under your awareness and sabotage your potential. And unless you learn to spot them, they'll run your life on autopilot. This is where Cognitive Behavioral Strategies shine. Step one is awareness. You've got to name the thought to tame the thought. Start with thought logging—track what pops into your head during stress, failure, or fear. Write it down without judgment. Capture the raw pattern. When you see it on paper, you create distance from it. You stop being in the thought and start observing it. Then comes the reframe. Ask yourself: What's the evidence for this thought? Is this fact or fear? What's a more empowering, truthful version of this belief? Rewriting negative patterns isn't about lying to yourself. It's about aligning with reality—not the distorted, fear-based version your old wiring wants to believe. Imagine your mind as a trail system. Every time you repeat a thought, you carve a deeper mental path. Walk it often enough, and it becomes the default route. CBT helps you close down the self-destructive trails and blaze new, powerful ones—ones that lead to clarity, confidence, and control. Building Mental Toughness Through Thought Management Mental toughness isn't something you're born with. It's a skill—and like any skill, it can be trained. Cognitive Behavioral Strategies are the training ground for that mental muscle. They give you practical tools to challenge your current mindset, sharpen your focus, and develop the kind of mental grit that thrives under pressure. And the cornerstone of this training? The 4C's of Mental Toughness: Control is your ability to manage your internal world—your thoughts,

Ep #174 - Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs) are those pesky little party poopers that can crash our mental fiesta, stirring up negativity, anxiety, and even the "why me?" blues - but fear not, fellow growth-mindset warriors! There are ways to wrangle these thought intruders and bring back the good vibes. One method to show those ANTs who's boss is the ABRA technique, which is not a magic spell, but it's close! Here's how it goes: Acknowledge that pesky ANT (yeah, you see it!), Breathe deeply to chill out, Release the thought as you exhale and ask yourself, "where did this thought come from" (peace out, ANT!), and Align yourself with a positive affirmation and take massive positive action - because you're awesome and you know it! So next time those ANTs try to ruin your mental groove, remember to identify their sneaky tactics (like mind-reading, blaming, complain, making excuses, labeling, shame, guilt, or fortune-telling), and hit 'em with a positivity smackdown. With practice, you'll be dancing to the beat of your own positive mindset and leaving those ANTs out in the cold. Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week! Here is what to expect on this week's show: This month's Whinypaluza Book Club selection: Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff, PhD Overthinking is an all-too-common issue amongst women. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and grant yourself the same grace and compassion that you give others. Self-criticism is easy when you hold yourself to impossible standards all the time. You are a work in progress. Keep this in mind when you make mistakes. ANTS: Automatic Negative Thoughts about a Situation (I'm stupid, I suck, I'm terrible, etc.) PETS: Positive Empowering Thoughts in a Situation (I'm allowed to make mistakes, it's ok, I'm learning something from this, etc.) Physically beating yourself up is absurd, so why do we think it is ok to beat ourselves up in our thoughts? Overthinking is latent protection mechanism from when we had to learn from negative events in order to stay alive. Try compartmentalizing your worrying by allowing yourself to do it within a small period of time, like 5 minutes. Then, move on. Enlist a team at home when you have too much to do, to help alleviate overthinking the to-do list. Focus on what you have control over, rather than the feelings of overwhelm. Take steps to move in the direction that will make you feel better. Vocalizing what you are thinking can help to ease your mental burden. Find a friend to vent to, or write it down. Do not overestimate the value of self-care. The better you take care of yourself, the better you will be able to process and take on the day's challenges, which means less overthinking. Plan for the worst-case scenario. Being prepared will make you feel less anxious. Always be learning from your failures, as well as your successes. Brett Maher, the kicker for the Dallas Cowboys missed 4 extra point kicks in their gave vs the bucks. In this episode, I breakdown how our mindset affects everything we do and how to ensure we focus on the things that will help take us to our next level. We can't afford negative ideas to come into our minds. The ANTS - Automatic Negative Thoughts will take over if we're not careful. We have to get good at thinking about what we're thinking about. Like Carl Jung said, "when we make the unconscious, conscious, it will control our life and we will call it fate".Eric talks about our facts vs. our truths. We can create any life we want for our self. That's our truth!
Active gratitude is a deterrent to despair, discouragement, and depression. It can move us from unbearable emotions to a new way of life. Rather than focusing on mental suffering, we can continually transform it with gratitude, constantly applying God’s Word. Instead of being controlled by ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts, per Dr. Daniel Amen), we can live in grateful joy! On Thursday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, licensed professional counselor, Marti Wibbels helps us realize that rather than being led by these automatic negative thoughts (or emotions), we can apply biblical principles to each of our concerns, confident in our Good Shepherd's promises. According to Dr Amen, the nine most common Automatic Negative Thoughts are: 1) the all-or-nothing ANT, 2) the less-than ANT, 3) the just-the-bad ANT, 4) the guilt-beating ANT, 5) the labeling ANT, 6) the fortune-telling ANT, 7) the mind-reading ANT, 8) the if-only ANT, and 9) the blame ANT. With humor and a light touch, Rebecca talks about how we can stop these ANTs from wreaking our life “picnic.”

Wouldn't it be great if we could control our thoughts which in turn would control our actions? What if I told you it was true? What if I told you that you can achieve what you want by renewing and rewiring your brain? In today's episode, we dive into our ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) a little more. We talk about the importance of renewing our minds (you know it's true because it's in the Bible!). Not every thought we have is true (shocking I know! I mean I knew that to be true- but I didn't act like it is a fact- until now!). Not every thought you have is true- let that sink in! What freedom comes from that! So today we dive into let your mind settle on that and embrace the power of renewing and rewiring your thoughts! This is one of my MOST FAVORITE things about coaching...getting to walk people through the truth and helping them rewire their brain. We also talk about affirmations in this episode- I'm going against popular beliefs here, but there is a science to rewiring the brain- affirmations do not hit the mark. They make you feel good momentarily but they do NOT give you lasting transformation! Dive in and get curious about what is possible for you! We all go through things that are really hard. We go through trials, refinement, loss, divorce, separation, loss of a job, loss of confidence, loss of identity...you name it I bet you have experienced it. What if I told you that there is a way to fast-track your healing? To laser focus your core needs and understand how your needs turned into a fear that shades your grief? What if I told you that you don't have to spend YEARS trying to understand your grief and loss? What if I told you that there is a faster way through the pain and suffering and sorrow that you are experiencing? Well, friend, there is. It's not a shortcut. It's not going around and avoiding the things you are going through- it is hitting it straight on. Let's get ready to say yes to ourselves, our healing, our lives...say yes to becoming a healthier version of you. The YOU you desire. The YOU you deserve and those who love you the most want to see. OK! I mentioned something in here that I wasn't going to mention just yet- but it seemed like a really good time to bring it up! If you are interested in taking the first steps to fast track your healing, fast track your moving forward, getting unstuck..all the things. Reach out to me at tami@tamimariecoaching.com Let me know if you want more information. I am super excited about this and have been working on ideas for it. It is walking through steps that I have taken to heal and to grow. It has helped me find my purpose and even more it has helped me find the motivation to dive into healing and my purpose. Are you ready (or not) to find out what's possible? Are you feeling that urge that where you are, is not where you want to be? Today I want to help you Take Control of Your Life. Sometimes we might feel like LIFE is out of control or forces outside ourselves are running the show. But, use these 9 strategies to take the wheel and start controlling your life in every area. And, PLEASE share this show with at least one person you feel would benefit from its message. Here are the 9 strategeis for taking control of your life...enjoy 1-Take Good Care of Yourself- It's much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest. 2-Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For- Stresses and challenges don't seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference. 3-Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions- A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member's bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don't waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about. 4-Refrain from Using Absolutes- Have you ever told a partner "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a friend "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering. 5-Detach From Negative Thoughts- Your thoughts can't hold any power over you if you don't judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don't follow it. 6-Squash the "ANTs"- In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them! 7-Increase Your Social Activity- By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way! 8-Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person- Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return. 9-Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination- If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It's never productive, because it's not rational or solution-oriented, it's just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music. Thanks for listening. G

‘Tis the season to be jolly, right? But it's hard to enjoy festivities when your mind is cluttered with anxious thoughts. You're struggling with additional pressures. Emotionally drained. Or you may be dealing with SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's more than the winter blues; SAD is an actual depression where the onset occurs during the fall or winter months. While dealing with the holidays can be a chore itself, wrestling with seasonal depression can add a whole other layer to our stress. Sis, we got to reclaim our mind this holiday and as we head into the New Year. That's why today we're talking to Licensed Professional Counselor Shantai L. McCray of Life's Work Counseling and Consulting, right here in Raytown. Shantai shares her path into this field of service, having a passion to help others. Shantai and I delve into how making the choice to see a therapist can be difficult but is a decision that can change the course of our life for the better. Shantai's goal is to help clients discover the patterns that leave them feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Her work leads people to uncover the tools they already possess to get on track, which allows us to heal. And that's a win. While we focus on seasonal depression, the convo goes even further. Shantai speaks on the role of trauma and how therapy helps us recognize it. We also get into something a lot of us battle - ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts). Another gem? Shantai weighs in on the importance of being still; sharing how simple rest helps us have a better outlook and gain clarity. (That's a bonus because with 2022 around the corner, having an uncluttered mind for a clear vision onward is necessary work.) So let's gear up to reclaim our mind this holiday season and in the year to come.

Michele Harper is a Hypnotherapist, Holistic Aesthetician and Spiritual Coach who sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to help us discover and understand our own personal powers, on our way to ultimate transcendence. Most have only heard this word in relation to the 2014 Johnny Depp film of the same name. However, when she starts talking about ANTS(Automatic Negative Thoughts) that steal our mind, she instantly gets everyone's attention. With terms like past life regression, color karma and transgressional therapy, she takes us on a journey that rides the line between meditation and hypnosis. She says many of her clients are creative minds, whom are the first to fall into depression because when they feel their creative flow blocked or lost, they no longer feel valid or good enough. So often people spiral because they feel they haven't achieved their dreams, but who has set the bar for those dreams? Society? Naysayers? The idea of money? Anyone can still achieve their dreams and still not find monetary wealth, for dreams are not measured by finance, but by personal happiness and achievement.XXPlease Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. Lisa Thal is an Author, Speaker, and Business Coach. She wrote the book "Three Word Meetings." A Simple Strategy to Engage, Inspire, and Empower Your Team. Lisa coaches leaders on how to take their sales and business meetings to the next level with fun and interesting 3-word topics to get your sales team motivated and inspired. She has over 33 years of sales, marketing, and leadership experience. Episode 081, focuses on the right mindset needed to excel at a high level. I will share the insights I have learned from Tony Robbins and what you can do to create a productive mindset! Key takeaways from this episode: According to the National Science Foundation, an average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those, 80% are negative, and 95% are repetitive thoughts. If we repeat those negative thoughts, we think negative way more than we think positive thoughts. Cognitive Behavioral Therapists have a term for it — ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts). Nobody likes ANTs in their house. We certainly want to remove these ANT's from our minds! So how do you take control of your mental state? Do you watch your TV? Not your actual Flat Screen, HIGH Def TV where you watch your favorite Netflix's, HBO, or sporting events. I am talking about your Transformation Vocabulary -TV! We have to learn to Manage our vocabulary! We all face negative thoughts throughout the day—the ANTS. Step one is to become more aware of these thoughts. Some of these thoughts could be lies you are telling yourself. So I recommend, replace that negative thought with a positive one. For example, if you're in sales and trying to secure a new meeting with a prospect. Many of us may not be aware of the fear in our minds of calling someone we have never met. Our Mindset tries to protect us and sends a message to our brain, saying they probably won't pick up the phone, I will get their voicemail or gatekeeper, they're probably happy with their current vendor. Sounds negative and not much hope! Replace that with the following: I am so excited to share how I can help this company grow its revenue based on its ideas, product, or service. This one meeting could be the difference between them making their sales for the month. So what if they say they are happy with their current vendor. I am here to validate their current vendor or see if I can improve what they are doing. Growth or Fixed? If you have a fixed mindset, then you are set in your ways. Or you use the phrase; this is how we have always done it. You could say you have a fixed or closed mind. A better approach is a growth mindset, which tells you to learn from every experience, good or bad. You are open to trying something new, which shifts your perspective to growing and making progress. There is one word that will keep you on the path of progress, and that word is Possibility! It is possible! It may take time and patience to achieve your intentions, but it is always possible. Change and manage your Mindset. When your mind starts to go negative nelly, stop at that moment and think about something you're grateful for. It could be as simple as I am thankful for my health, faith, spouse, job, kids, and dogs? If it's a client issue, I am grateful to have that client be an issue vs. not having the client. I will solve this issue for them. I am a solution provider! The best advice I can give you regarding managing your Mindset. Stay in the present moment! It is so easy to drift back into the past or fast forward to the future. These moments in our minds could keep us from moving forward. Yes, we learn from our past experiences. These experiences are going to help you keep moving on to the next moment, the present moment. So remember, get the ANTS ( automatic negative thoughts) out of your mind and watch your TV - Transformational Vocabulary. Words play a huge role in how we feel. Change your focus on what is right vs. what is wrong. Create a mind of mental toughness and a vocabulary of hope and possibility. If you like this podcast, make sure you rate it; if you think someone could benefit from this episode, share it, or subscribe at Itunes or Spotify, so you don't miss out on the next three-word podcast.
In this episode, biologist Dr. Rebecca shares her amazing 360 feedback app, icueity. https://www.icueity.com/ You will also gain many insights about the ancestral and instinctual aspects of the brain which makes feedback such an important part of feeling safe in order to unleash our limitless potential. We have seven mantras from the show: Mantra #1: Spread happy. Homemade ice cream recipe: https://makeeverythingfun.com/recipe/homemade-vanilla-ice-cream/ Dairy-free ice cream recipe: https://makeeverythingfun.com/recipe/dairy-free-chocolate-ice-cream/ Mantra #2: Spread your long term legacy. (What do you want to spread?) Mantra #3: Feedback is fantastic (and helps with the fight, flight, or freeze response). Mantra #4: Lack of feedback is scary (and triggers the survival or reptilian part of our brains). Mantra #5: Be aware of your Kryptonite. Mantra #6: Weaknesses are not permanent, pervasive, or personal. Mantra #7: Replace those ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts) with PETS (Practiced Enlighted Thoughts). More about Dr. Rebecca Heiss Rebecca knows fear. As a biologist and stress expert, Dr. Rebecca Heiss is dedicated to helping us become self-aware and overcome our instinctual limitations – the ancient, often subconscious fears that hold us back from our optimal performance and our happiest lives. Her research has been designated “transformative” by the National Science Foundation and it is waking up audiences around the world. As an author (Instinct, April 2021), founder and CEO of the 360-review mobile application, icueity, and highly sought-after professional speaker, Rebecca has found her calling in helping others recognize the power of biological applications in their lives. A former educator, Dr. Heiss spent much of her earlier career in the classroom at both the high school and college levels and was recruited to be a founding member of an innovative charter school with a focus on entrepreneurial thinking and impact-based learning. Rebecca has been honored to speak internationally on her work, including multiple TEDx talks. Her “fear(less)” message inspires hope and actionable insights to train our brain to work for us, rather than against us in times of uncertainty. With surprising humor and palpable energy, no matter if Dr. Heiss is delivering virtually or on stage, she wins over audiences around the world with her interactive, inspiring, and timely takeaways. She lives in South Carolina with her spoiled rotten dog named Guinness, and every day tries to live her life motto: “spread happy”. LINKS https://www.icueity.com/ https://rebeccaheiss.com/
“Ants may be tiny but they can definitely ruin your picnic. That's how our negative thoughts can ruin our day”.Dr. Daniel AmenIn this episode, we are going to talk about different types of ANTs ( Automatic Negative Thoughts) , and how we can relate these in grieving.Episode Pointers:Thoughts are real, and they have a direct impact on how you feel and how you behave. “You don't have to believe every thought that goes through your head. It's important to think about your thoughts, to see if they help you , or hurt you. There are horrible and painful parts of grief, and there are parts where the sun shines, and you can see the beauty because you've seen so much darkness.Types of ANTs: All or nothing thinking: All good or All bad - We always think that someone or a situation is all good or all bad and nothing in between. Remember life is 50/50. Always thinking: That something that happened will always repeat itself. Focusing on the negative: If you are looking through the lens of guilt and what you have done wrong, you are focusing on all the reasons why you should be at fault and the reason your child is no longer here. Thinking with your feelings: This is when you believe your feelings without ever questioning them. However, feeling a certain way doesn't mean it's always trueGuilt Beatings: Guilt is typically not a helpful emotion. Letting go of all the things you should do in your life. The guilt and the stress of saying you should be doing something only makes it harder to do. Labeling: When you attach a label to yourself or someone else, it doesn't allow you to take a clear look at the picture. Blaming: This is all about not taking personal responsibility for your life, and you blame others for the problems in your life. This is really toxic, because it takes away any control you have for yourself and gives it to everyone else around youResource Book :Change Your Brain, Change Your Life by Dr. Daniel AmenIf you want to apply for a spot for 1:1 Grief Coaching, go to www.meganhillukka.com/griefcoachingJoin my free class on How to Get Through Grief on November 10th. ANTs is a fitting description because they can line-up and march around our brain if they're too out of control. I also call it my “addict voice” because it likes to whisper those negative thoughts in my ear when I’m feeling my lowest. Pesky litter buggers! In today's episode, I talk about how to manage them. You can also visit me at my blog. Hope to see you there! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/elsie-amata/message

On this episode of Fitness Business University, Vince Gabriele talks about why he gives out logo'd pens to the gym owners he mentors in his Mastermind program. His pens have the logo SPF on them which stands for Simple, Profitable and Fun, a motto he wants the gym owners to know and live. Vince references a children's book, "Stomp Out the ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) by Sally-Anne McCormack, which talks about dealing with the negative thoughts or "Head Trash" as Vince coined it. When these thoughts arise, which they will, how do you manage them. First, you ask yourself the Super Power Question, "Are you 100% sure this thought is true"? Does that date support your negative thoughts--because often times it doesn't. But this episode isn't about the head trash you experience almost on a daily. It's about the SPF pen that one of Vince's mentees posted on Facebook, that included the picture of him using the pen and captioning the picture, "whenever I have head trash, I grab this pen and start writing". This is an excellent example of how what some view as a promotional item, as building omnipresence for your brand. It reinforces the branding for you. It keeps your brand top-of-mind for them. It's a conversation starter. So next time you think about your promotional materials, think about giving your clients and customers something that they will use often and keep them reminded of you. A water bottle, t-shirt, etc.

QuickFit Club is back up with new workouts and ready for a new you!A note about QuickFit Club sign ups....we are still in the beta stage, so all memberships are trial basis, 30 days, but realistically probably longer (60 days) to get all the bugs out before it goes 100% members only.If you already had a trial membership, you'll be able to sign in with your previous name (or email) and password combo, but you won't be able to access "member" content because you will need to "renew" by selecting the trial membership (yes, again, but this enables you to maintain your previous login name). Once done, you can access member home and all the workouts.Note: you may have to clear history or cache to refresh the new Quickfit Club site! NEW! You'll also find QuickFit Tips Videos on the site as well as the GetFitTV Youtube channel! While on Youtube, check out the StrongandPowerfulNow channel that supports the new StrongandPowerful site and campaigns. Be sure to like and subscribe to both!TRAINING: Fact VS Fiction!Fact: Squats are an excellent exercise.Everyone does a form of squat multiple times a day! Sitting in a chair, on a toilet, standing up from both, those are all squats! You work the whole body when doing squats whether you go low or not. Studies confirm squatting has major functional benefits: better mobility, faster walking speed, bone strength, stronger core, and in sports: faster running speed and greater vertical jump.Lie: Squats are dangerous and will damage the knees and spine. Lie! Squats are not dangerous if you do them correctly. Remember, you actually do them everyday already! Squatting is a natural motion performed by our ancestors on a regular basis. Again studies back this up and show squats can strengthen the entire thigh and hip areas and can help prevent knee pain and dysfunction.Depending on your fitness history and training level, you may need to start with variations. Your goal would be to go as low as possible with correct form. Proper form means that your heel stay on the ground the entire time! Get a trainer to help check if your form is optimal.Fact: Sitting all day is extremely bad for you.Research showed that people who sit for more than 6 hours a day have greater risk of kidney disease, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and premature death. So take a break, get up and walk around!Lie: Regular workouts counter the damages of sitting all day. Nope, not true! Research shows two key points when it comes to sedentary jobs: 1) "Within a population that exercises at a vigorous intensity a few days a week, the amount of time spent being inactive is dramatic and not significantly lessened by regular workouts.2) In just 20 minutes of sitting, your blood sugar and insulin can get out of whack. A little longer and oxygen saturation of the muscles drops and gene activity decreases, which directly influences protein synthesis and the clearance of waste from cells."Get moving! Especially if you have a seated job!NUTRITION Dealing with Carb Cravings Part 2It's not always food that causes you to crave carbs! Here's two more ways your body can force you to crave carbs: Lack of sleep Lack of sleep increases desire for high carbs, boosting overall calorie intake. It also reduces your will power and breaks down any defenses you have in place to prevent carb cravings.Studies show people feel more hungry and make poor food choices when they are tired! Adding up to as much as an extra 300 calories a day or more!Plus, your blood sugar levels get out of whack too! Insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance drop when you are sleep deprived, causing your body to shift (or stays) in fat storage mode.Be honest about what you eatIt's not always a matter of willpower! Sometimes you really eat more than you think! Keep a true food journal that you can review and analyze. You always learn more when it is written on paper! You may be surprised at your numbers, but especially your carb intake. Don’t feel ashamed or guilty! Use this info to fix dietary problems. Identify low-glycemic carbs that are acceptable substitutes for higher carb foods and determine which foods help with your craving and which may cause the cravings.MOTIVATIONTips to get on the right track! #1 Remind Yourself of the Things For Which You Are Grateful! Pu things in perspective! Sure life could be better, it could also be worse! Find a few things each day that you are grateful for and accept them! Regular daily stress, problems and disasters don't seem so bad when you remind yourself of the things that are right in your life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference!#2 Eliminate Automatic Negative Thoughts!Squash the "ANTs" In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!Get all the most recent episodes on iTunes or download this episode here:Fit 241: How to Deal with Negative Thoughts, Eliminate Carb Cravings & Training Myths Part 2 Now available in paperback: "Mindset Makeover," available at The Book Patch.com.
