You don't have to hate your job to feel stuck in it. In fact, some of the most respected, well-paid professionals still find themselves restless, unmotivated, and going through the motions. In this episode, Clay and Adam unpack what it really means to feel “stuck” at work—and why it doesn't always mean it's time to quit.Drawing on insights from thinkers like Mel Robbins, Dan Heath, Jocko Willink, and Patrick Lencioni, they challenge the common belief that the only solution to feeling stuck is to change jobs. Instead, they offer a fresh perspective: what if “stuck” is just a signal, not a verdict? You'll learn three common reasons people feel stuck (and what to do about each one), plus simple, practical strategies to reignite your growth, energy, and sense of purpose—without switching careers. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Your answer could be pretty simple, but there's a lot more to the introvert vs. extrovert world than just the popular distinction of being quiet or loud. While no one is a one hundred percent introvert or extrovert, understanding the differences between the two can help you determine how best to connect and communicate. Host, Sue Duffield, has made it her choice and study to watch how people interact and relate with each other. She was featured in John C. Maxwell's book, "Everyone Communicates, Few Connect" and has also offered counsel and guidance to women's ministry leaders as well as singers and speakers, on how best to "read" their crowd. Business on the Edge: How to Turn a Profit and Improve Lives in the World's Toughest Places by Viva Ona Bartkus, Emily S. Block https://amzn.to/4bQtrg2 A road map for how businesses can grow and make money while reducing poverty and conflict in some of the world's most challenging environments Many companies worry that expanding into emerging markets is a risky—and even dangerous—move. Professors Viva Ona Bartkus and Emily S. Block see things differently. They argue that by entering markets in the world's frontline regions—areas stuck in cycles of violence and extreme poverty—businesses can actually create stability and expand opportunity for communities and corporations alike. From helping Colombian farmers transition from growing coca to produce to disrupting human trafficking rings by creating more construction jobs in the Philippines, Business on the Edge proves that businesses can make money while advancing corporate social responsibility, environmental conservation, and social justice. Partnering with groups including multinational companies, NGOs, and the US military, Bartkus and Block outline their process for generating opportunities, detailing their successes and failures in launching over eighty growth-oriented business solutions in thirty countries. Bridging the gap between academic research and real-world experience, Business on the Edge shows how businesses can reduce risks, cut costs, and increase profits, all while creating economic opportunities that transform communities. About the author Emily Block is an Associate Professor of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Management and the George Cormie Chair in Management at the Alberta School of Business. Her research program explores how values pluralism impacts the processes of legitimacy and change, the nature of social evaluations and how organizational theory can be used to understand and address grand challenges. Emily's research has been published in journals such as AMJ, SMJ, JBV, JOM, MISQ and JMS. Her book, “Business on the Edge,” explores how business can both thrive and improve lives in post-conflict environments. She serves on the ASQ editorial board and is a Visiting Professor at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. She received her BBA in Management from the University of Notre Dame and her PhD in Organizational Behavior from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.

Matthew was born in a small blue-collar town in Australia called Craigieburn, to a family of miners, sheep shearers, factory workers, seamstresses, and secretaries. Honest and capable trade work ran deep through the generations, instilling in Matthew a strong work ethic and a respect for the hard yards.   This commitment to a job well done, combined with his father's favorite saying, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” set the stage for Matthew's entire life. Things did not come easily for him, but he made his success possible by charging on, creating inventive solutions to problems, and never giving up.   A lifelong visual processing disorder, misdiagnosed until his teenage years, left him with the reading speed of a sixth grader; school was a nonstop struggle requiring hours of daily work just to remain on equal footing with the peers who seemed to sail by. But like all challenges we overcome, there are benefits on the other side. He taught himself shortcuts to get through school, with the ultimate result being an overall ability to think beyond the established, standard ways of doing things.   [00:01 – 07:21] Opening Segment Sales, Marketing, and Networking as an introvert with Matthew Pollard Matthew talks about how he educated himself through YouTube Introverts can outperform extroverts in networking   [07:57 – 14:03] How an Introvert Can Be Successful in Networking Matthew talks about the importance of planning and preparation Introverts versus Extroverts Seven Steps to a sales process Finding a mentor and learning how to create your own sales process   [14:04 – 26:03] Strategies to Become Better in Syndication Matthew talks about the importance of creating and telling stories How to build rapport through telling stories How to represent yourself as a syndication specialist Creating a better relationship with clients   [26:04 – 32:29] Closing Segment Quick break for our sponsors The first step to growing your wealth is tracking your wealth, income spending and everything else about your finances, you can start tracking your wealth for free and get six free months of wealth advisor.  Learn more about Personal Capital at escapingwallstreet.com What are your thoughts about a negative story? “I love negative stories” “With planning and preparation, you can make a story that went wrong, sound fantastic” Matthew talks about how a negative story can make clients feel more comfortable   Connect with Matthew Pollard through theintrovertsedge.com Invest passively in multiple commercial real estate assets such as apartments, self storage, medical facilities, hotels and more through https://www.passivewealthstrategy.com/crowdstreet/ Participate directly in real estate investment loans on a fractional basis. Objections: How Can You Prepare for Your Prospect's Most Likely Objections? | Matthew Pollard - 1426

The Sales Evangelist

As part of the sales process, you can expect objections from everyone you're speaking with, including your prospects. Join us in this episode as Donald Kelly and Matthew Pollard answer the question, how can you prepare for your prospect's most likely objections? Matthew Pollard's first book was entitled, The Introvert's Edge: How the Quiet and Shy Can Outsell Anyone. It focused on selling as an introvert.  His most recent book is entitled, The Introvert's Edge to Networking: Work the Room. Leverage Social Media. Develop Powerful Connections is a sequel to the previous book, and it's focused on how introverts can out-network their extrovert counterparts. Many believe that extroverts have an advantage over introverts, but Matthew believes that this thought is just in peoples' heads. The truth is, there's no disadvantage. It's just that the path to success for introverts and extroverts is different.  What is networking?  Networking is about fostering long-term relationships with champions and momentum partners. They are the people who sing your praises and have high-level credibility. They are the people who share your work beyond the networks you currently have.  Preparing for objections A system is an external process and if something goes wrong, it's not a personal attack on you. It's just that there's a part of the system that broke and you need to fix it.  Introverts need to realize that externalizing and having a structured system in networking sales allows them to treat each objection, not as a personal attack.  Introverts also need to have a plan and a structure of what they want to say instead of getting stuck in their heads for thinking of what to say and ending up not articulating the best version of themselves.  Focus on receiving objections. Introverts often get stuck in their heads when they get an objection and then they end up not knowing what to say.   Objection handling cushion is a way for extroverts to emotionally regulate and for introverts to work out what they say.  Select a story to tell. It's critical that you know the three major problems of your prospects and to have one story for each of these major objections. So, think of the three major objections and the three major stories.  You can embellish your story to make it more interesting. Try to improve it everytime you retell it.  People remember 22x more information when embedded into a story.  For introverts, it activates the reticular activating system of their brain and creates an artificial rapport with the customers.  Tell a story that is well-rehearsed and well-practiced. Introverts don't believe that they can do it so they don't gravitate toward it right away.  The people who make plans and make the right preparations are the ones who succeed. It's not about being introverted or extroverted. It's about doing the right preparation.  “Objections: How Can You Prepare for Your Prospect's Most Likely Objections?” episode resources Follow Matthew Pollard on LinkedIn. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Podcasts in Careers! “Rally behind the fact that [introverts] are not second-class citizens. Our path to success is just different, and when we embrace that and a system that is going to leverage our natural strengths, we can outperform in all these so-called extroverted arenas. They’re all introverted ones in my mind.” - Matthew Pollard Networking is often seen as a skill that only extroverts can master, but today’s Finding Brave returning guest reveals not only how to network as an introvert, but what you can do to be truly amazing at it. His work proves that introversion doesn’t make you a second-class citizen, and he provides the specific tools and a way to systemize the networking process for introverts that is game changing. Called “the real deal” by Forbes, Matthew Pollard is the bestselling author of The Introvert's Edge: How the Quiet and Shy Can Outsell Anyone, Amazon’s 8th Most-Sold Book of the Week and BookAuthority’s #2 “Best Introvert Book of All Time.” Now adding a new book to his series,The Introvert’s Edge to Networking: Work the Room. I’ve known Matthew for years now, and what strikes me is how generous he is in sharing his knowledge and expertise with others. For today's episode, I gladly welcome Matthew Pollard, an internationally-recognized consultant, speaker, blogger, author, mentor, coach, serial entrepreneur, and the Founder and CEO of Rapid Growth, LLC, a company dedicated to achieving maximum ROI for businesses of all sizes. Matthew is also the host of the popular podcast The Introvert's Edge and the author of the book of the same name. Matthew has had to battle challenging personal and professional hurdles before realizing the success he has today. From having a learning disability and being painfully introverted, to being laid off from his first job just weeks before Christmas, he has made remarkable progress to pave the way for success. Being an introvert myself, I am excited by the opportunity to interview someone who resonates with me in multiple ways. Matthew was born in a small, blue-collar town in Australia called Craigieburn, to a family of miners, sheep shearers, factory workers, seamstresses, and secretaries. He was hindered by a lifelong visual processing disorder, misdiagnosed until his teenage years which left him with the reading level of a sixth-grader, making school a nonstop struggle. Uncertain of what he wanted to do with his life, and exhausted from the effort of finishing school, Matthew decided to postpone university, and instead ended up at the only job he could find, which was commission-only door to door sales. He landed his first sale after knocking on almost one hundred doors and was ecstatic! Because of his reading limitations, he discovered YouTube and started learning field testing and sales from the videos available. He discusses how he completely immersed himself in learning and often spent 16 hours a day practicing. This eventually led him to become the top salesperson of this company that also boasted the highest volume of sales and marketing in the southern hemisphere! Matthew then started his own B2B cell phone company, which turned out to be the largest broker of B2B cell phones in the country. He went on to have five multi-million dollar businesses, all before the age of 30. He suggests introverts practice projecting extraversion in lieu of trying to become an extrovert. He says most people struggle to interact with others because it takes a ton more energy and they feel inauthentic when they're doing it. By knowing exactly what you're going to say, who you're going to speak to, and what is going to trigger their interest, introverts can manage well in these interactions. Matthew shares his experience writing his first book and how difficult it was for him with the reading difficulties he had. He also talks about interviewing Tom Ziglar, son of Zig Ziglar, and learning from him how his father had also been an introvert. In discussing his podcast and how it has helped him, Matthew said that if you can't articulate the value of what you provide face to face when someone's politely listening to you, you're going to have a hard time when you need to do that digitally. With The Introvert's Edge Podcast, Matthew provides a step-by-step process by which even the most introverted person can become a sales master, while still remaining authentic. He is on a mission to erase the stigma around introversion and to empower introverts to recognize and leverage their innate strengths and abilities. Matthew believes successful people share a few common traits and that they are all under your control. He said high-achievers have a 100% commitment to their goals, a drive to work hard, an ability to synthesize information and create reliable systems, a mindset of self-belief and a positive outlook, and the attitude of smart risk-taking. With the incredible success he has created in his life and the unparalleled ways of sharing his practices, Matthew continues to revolutionize and reshape the industry. For today’s episode, I gladly welcome Matthew Pollard, an internationally-recognized consultant, speaker, blogger, author, mentor, coach, serial entrepreneur, and the Founder and CEO of Rapid Growth, LLC, a company dedicated to achieving maximum ROI for businesses of all sizes. Matthew is also the host of the popular podcast The Introvert’s Edge and the author of the book of the same name. Matthew Pollard first wrote "The Introvert's Edge: How the Quiet and Shy Can Outsell Anyone," as it was his life story, an introvert who initially failed miserably at sales. He taught himself to succeed and he did so to a dramatic degree. But it wasn’t by becoming something he was not, but by leveraging his natural strengths. I was sent his second book that is coming out currently, "The Introvert’s Edge To Networking: Work The Room, Leverage Social Media, and Develop Powerful Connections." It caught my attention because I am an absolutely introvert, and I do not...like traditional “networking”. In this discussion you’ll hear why introverts don’t just have a chance to shine with sales and networking, but we actually have an edge, and not by becoming extroverts. I brought Matthew on because I think this is sorely needed information that will empower so, so many of you. And yes, extroverts will do well to listen to this episode. They will actually do well to do just that...listen. More. You can get the first chapter of The Introvert’s Edge To Networking at theintrovertsedge.com/networking Learn more about your ad choices. Suicide is a dark topic that is full of sorrow and grief, but it is something that needs to be discussed, especially during a pandemic that has caused many people around the world to feel isolated. Gary Roe currently serves as a hospice chaplain and grief counselor for Hospice Brazos Valley in central Texas, and his experience with grief and loss as a child has allowed him to reach out to people during their times of intense sorrow with a heightened understanding of their situation.  Gary describes researching the topic of suicide as, “A solo climb of Mount Everest without any protection.” Since 2000, suicides have increased by 30%. There is a suicide every 11 seconds, meaning 130 deaths per day, and for each completed suicide, there are 25 attempts. While everyone’s experience of death is different, the grieving process after a suicide is especially unique. Suicide is followed by grief, shame, and many, many questions that start with “why.” Our hearts cannot stop turning over the questions of why it happened and why we could not stop it. We try to retrace our steps to see what we could have done differently, and place blame and guilt on ourselves and situations in the past. Other people around those grieving a loved one lost to suicide might treat them as if they have an infectious disease, avoiding them and distancing themselves as a way of self-preservation.  The first step in moving towards healing from this hurt is to accept what has happened. This practice can help you release some of the unanswered questions. You need to be kind and patient with yourself and have several safe people around you to listen and support you. One person cannot be with you 24/7, so it is important to have a number of safe people around you so that they are not carrying your grief with you alone.  Gary equates grief to a reservoir that sees constant rain. After a while, the pressure builds up, and if the doors are not opened, this life-giving place becomes destructive. You can open up these doors around your grief by talking about your emotions, questions, and fears to other people or by writing and creating visualizations.  Suicide may always be stigmatized by society, but if you can realize this early on, it may save you some anger and allow you to focus on your own healing over time. There will always be triggers—scenes in movies, holidays, memories, certain places—but, as Gary says, “The pain screams, ‘I love you, and I love you still, and I’ll never stop loving you.’” When you grieve in healthy ways, you can turn the pain into something good that will have a powerful impact on other people. Gary wrote two books, Living on the Edge: How to Fight and Win the Battle for Your Mind and Heart and Difference Maker: Overcoming Adversity and Turning Pain into Purpose, Every Day. Both books can be found on Amazon and each has a version for teens and for adults. You can support Gary’s initiative to help people in dark times find hope by believing in the truth of their worth. Learn more about his Suicide Prevention Project here.  You can contact Gary to help share these resources today.  Listen to his first and second episodes on Parenting Impossible for more advice about grieving loss.  Annette Hines has been practicing in the areas of Special Needs, Elder Law, and Estate Planning for more than 20 years. John Hagel is the co-chairman for Deloitte's Center for the Edge, an organization researching the future of work in a changing world. Tune in to learn the following: Why—contrary to what many people assume—the replacement of jobs by machines will be beneficial to humans and enrich our lives How the distinction between skill and capability is crucial to the philosophy behind the work being done at Center for the Edge How the current coronavirus pandemic will spur discussions about the future of work Hagel brings to the table over 40 years' worth of experience as a management consultant, author, speaker, and entrepreneur. In this episode, he discusses ways to address the work-related roles of human beings in a rapidly changing world where technology is replacing highly standardized and routine tasks that were once carried out only by human beings. Rather than a dystopian future where human-to-human connections are replaced by machines and human value or potential is diminished, Hagel sees quite the opposite; he sees a future in which technology allows humans to shape the future, redefine what it means to work, and focus on addressing unseen problems and opportunities to create more value and engage in more fulfilling work. The philosophy at Center for the Edge relies in large part upon a distinction between skills and capabilities. Hagel explains that skills have value only in very specific contexts, for example being able to operate a specific machine under certain conditions. In contrast, capabilities have value in all contexts, and include curiosity, empathy, creativity, and imagination. He argues that when companies and organizations focus on cultivating capabilities in their employees, human capital is increased, learning is accelerated, unexpected challenges are better addressed, efficiency is increased, and both employee and customer satisfaction improves. If you send an anecdote, make it first hand (it happened TO you or you were there when it happened and can vouch for it as a witness). The e-book will be sold under what’s called a creative commons licence, so you will need to take a look at the details of that on the website to make sure you are happy with it. This is a crowd-sourced, charity project so obviously, there will be no payment to anyone associated with these publications. Everyone involved is donating their time, materials and expertise to create, edit and format the e-book but we may have to pay fees for online facilities to sell, distribute and collect monies from the sale of the e-book. We will choose a distribution method that minimises these costs. All monies left after those costs will be donated to the chosen international music charity. We have not yet finalised the price to purchasers of the e-book but intend it to be lower than the price of a single album on a well known download site. We need to reserve the right to edit written material and to crop or edit photographic material as we see fit to ensure its appropriateness, or size, length or shape for publication. We cannot return material to you so do not send actual(physical) items to us in the post, just send digital items via the following two ways: by email to show@yesmusicpodcast.com (as long as the attachments aren’t too big) or via the upload a file link into which you can also put show@yesmusicpodcast.com We will credit the material used in the e-book to you so please provide an exact form by which you would like to be credited in your accompanying email. Here are some examples of how you may want to format your name for publication : Kevin Mulryne, or K. Mulryne, or Kevin M, or Kevin M from Atlanta:Georgia, or K Mulryne - London, England. It’s up to you. The act of sending us the material commits you to agreeing with all of these points but does not in any way imply that we will use the material - our intention is to use as many su...

Alex previews Wrestlemania 27 by giving us comprehensive picks, predictions, and thoughts. First, Alex discusses the final week of Wrestlemania build. Is The Miz now once again clearly the antagonist with John Cena and The Rock? Has Alberto Del Rio gained enough heat against Edge? How good of a job did Shawn Michaels do in the final buildup to Triple H and Undertaker? Then, Alex analyzes Wrestlemania. He talks about how much people want to see Michael Cole get his butt kicked by Jerry Lawler, whether Del Rio will win the Heavyweight Championship or if Cena will win the WWE Championship, how The Rock and Cena interact, if the Undertaker's streak will be broken by Triple H, and more. One thing is for certain, though...Alex feels the focus of Wrestlemania 27 should be on the active regular wrestlers, and not The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Undertaker, etc. The "Wrestlemania 27 Prediction Game" is up and running on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards! Feel free to submit your picks until Saturday at midnight EST! The winner receives a 10 dollar Starbucks gift card! (the randomness adds to the value of the prize) "The Alex Reimer Show" airs Saturday from 3-5 PM EST on 1120 AM WBNW Boston, www.moneymattersradio.net, and www.livestream.com/wbnw1120.
