Episode 301 of ā€œThe Sports Experience Podcastā€ is here & we're back on the hardwood discussing one of the NBA's most exciting players of the 1990s, Larry Johnson. After an incredible high school career in Dallas, many believed Johnson was headed towards a superstar career at SMU. However, controversy regarding his SAT scores caused Johnson to enroll at Odessa College for his first two post-high school seasons.Johnson dominated the competition, and was the first player to ever win the NJCAA Player of the Year award twice! He then enrolled at UNLV and spent the next two seasons dominating the highest level of college basketball. In 1989-1990, he helped the Runnin' Rebels win the NCAA Title. In 1990-1991, Johnson won the Wooden & Naismith Awards and led his team to the Final Four.Blessed with an amazing combination of size, strength, agility and shooting ability, Johnson selected as the 1st Overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.Johnson won the 1991-1992 NBA Rookie of the Year award, made the All-Star team in two of the next three seasons, helped establish the Hornets as a contender in the Eastern Conference and won a gold medal as part of ā€œThe Dream Team IIā€ at the FIBA World Cup. He even popularized himself with his advertisements for Converse which featured him as ā€œGrandmama!ā€Sadly, a back injury sustained during the 1993-1994 season limited Johnson through the rest of his career. Though he still was able to play at a high level as both a Small and Power Forward, he was not as dominant as he was projected to be after his first two seasons. In addition, a fallout with Alonzo Mourning and Charlotte led to his trade to the New York Knicks in 1996.Despite the injury and falling out with Charlotte, Johnson improved his outside game and even helped the Knicks make the NBA Finals in 1999.Watch, Subscribe & Comment on All Platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/the-sports-experience-podcast-with-chris-quinn/id1529622054Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1esgBLz04MZYrTgYMk5DvaConnect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: https://www.instagram.com/cquinncomedy/Dominic DiTolla: https://www.instagram.com/ditolladominic/Ty Engle:https://www.instagram.com/ty_englestudio/S.E.P.: https://www.instagram.com/thesportsexperiencepodcast/If you enjoy our podcast, please help support us:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast#nba#basketball#unlvrunninrebels#charlottehornets#newyorkknicks

RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot open Episode 339 by revisiting one of Seattle sports fans' oldest wounds — the Sonics' departure — while Oklahoma City dances in the NBA Finals. That leads to a spirited deep dive into Boston's music history, with Hotshot tested on everything from Aerosmith to New Edition. Mitch drops a classic Sonics tale: the time he painted his face in silent protest on a live Sonics pay-per-view broadcast. Pete Carroll makes a podcast appearance — not here, but on Get Got with Marshawn Lynch and Michael Robinson — and throws light shade at Earl Thomas while diplomatically reflecting on his Seahawks departure. Marshawn lets him cook. Mariners No-Table, Brady Farkas reacts to a 30-run explosion in Chicago, marvels at Cal Raleigh's historic pace, and debates whether Cal should skip the Home Run Derby to stay fresh. JP Crawford's All-Star case gets real, Solano suddenly looks irreplaceable, and the lineup finally shows life from top to bottom. Jason Puckett returns for the KJ-Aren'ts, where Mitch discovers Puckett's age through a Thunder hate-watch article and recounts legendary sideline reporting drama during the 1996 NCAA Final Four. Ā  GUESTS KJ-Aren'ts; Jason Puckett | Former KJR Host Mariners No-Table; Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast Ā  TABLE OF CONTENTS 0:00 | Sonics PTSD flares up as Thunder hit the Finals. Mitch challenges Hotshot to a musical trivia duel centered on Boston legends. 10:45 | Aerosmith, Boston, New Kids, New Edition, The Cars — and a surprise Dropkick Murphys finale. Mitch makes the case that Boston might outrank Seattle in music legacy. 21:03 | Pete Carroll joins Get Got and casually dunks on Earl Thomas. Marshawn just lets it ride. Pete also explains how control and roster vision led to his Seahawks exit. 29:24 | Mitch declares Cal's historic tear the most electrifying run by a Mariners hitter since Griffey '94 — name-dropping Mantle, Bench, and A-Rod along the way. 49:23 | Guest: Mariners No-Table with Brady Farkas. The Mariners explode for 30 runs in Chicago, Cal Raleigh enters historic territory, and Mitch argues he should skip the Derby to stay fresh. Farkas sees the other side. 1:22:03 | Guest KJ-Aren'ts Part 1: Mitch finds out Puckett's age by reading The Athletic, where Puckett is quoted from a Thunder hate-watch at Mike's Chili Parlor. 1:41:12 | Guest KJ-Aren'ts Part 2: Mitch tells the story of being banned from the Final Four — then shows up on live TV in full Syracuse face paint. Kevin and Marcus nearly lose it on air. 2:03:54 | Other Stuff Segment: Mitch confesses to miscrediting ā€œThe Twistā€ and recycling a decade-old John Olerud story, while Scott gleefully mocks his declining fastball. Barstool founder Dave Portnoy is in the news once again, this time for an explosive on-air confrontation with one of his hosts who defended the use of antisemitic "Jew jokes." Whitlock, T.J. Moe, and Steve Kim offered their insights on this contentious exchange, discussing what it reveals about the current landscape of sports media and comedy.Ā  In a notable shift, Michelle Beadle has emerged as one of the few media voices willing to take on Stephen A. Smith directly. She candidly expressed her lack of respect for Smith, accusing him of frequently misrepresenting facts and calling out the behind-the-scenes politics that resulted in him taking over her SiriusXM time slot. In the basketball world, Allen Iverson praised Angel Reese, stating that she reminds him of himself, both in her playing style and unfiltered personality. This comment has sparked renewed discussions about authenticity and star power in women's sports. Meanwhile, in the NFL, Robert Griffin III has voiced strong support for Shedeur Sanders, claiming that the young quarterback's performance during OTAs demonstrates that he has always possessed first-round talent. However, critics are accusing RGIII of pandering to Sanders. To close the show, the crew reflected on powerful remarks from South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley, who revealed that last year's Final Four loss to Iowa was so devastating it made her question her faith. Today's Sponsors: Pre-Born For only $28, the price of a single dinner, you can sponsor an ultrasound and allow a mother to meet her baby for the very first time.
