Host John Lund chats with recently retired Rick Bozich, who had a legendary career of 50 years in sports media and was a longtime Louisville sports columnist and reporter before his retirement from WDRB-TV on July 1st of this year. He got his start writing for the Indiana University Bloomington student newspaper in college before graduation in 1975 went on stops in Anderson and Bloomington, Indiana before landing in Louisville at The Courier-Journal in 1978 and also covering high school sports for The Louisville Times in 1979 before their merger in 1986. Rick ended up as The Courier-Journal's sports columnist in 1981 and had a three-plus decade career covering what sports fans could only dream of, maintaining that position until 2012. That included more than 30 Final Fours, including three Louisville national championships, 15 Super Bowls, 11 World Series, one NBA Finals and three summer Olympics, just to name a few. He then moved on to the TV world with WDRB and his show with fellow scribe Eric Crawford, while also serving as the station's columnist and commenter. He's been featured in the New York Times and Sports Illustrated, was a recurring guest on ESPN Sports Reporters (RIP), a correspondent for the Kentucky Derby on Westwood One Radio and is a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscaster Association and Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame. We'll talk about getting started in sports writing and covering basketball in the state of Indiana, some stories from the road, including covering both Bob Knight and Lee Corso while in college (and some slight differences in those personalities), continuing to evolve in sports media, rooting for the same baseball team as the Pope, what he might do next and of course, memories from his many years around Louisville athletics and fans. Emory University has played a pioneering role in Atlanta's soccer story — from the men's program that launched in 1959 as Georgia's first varsity team, to the women's program that has grown into a national contender with Final Four appearances and a trip to the 2012 national championship game.In this special episode, Jason Longshore sits down with Emory men's head coach Cory Greiner and women's head coach Sue Patberg to reflect on the Eagles' history, their place in Atlanta's booming soccer culture, and what's next as both programs continue to thrive on the national stage.Thank you to the Stuart A. In this episode of their Serving Up Pitt volleyball podcast, Post-Gazette insider Abby Schnable and former Panthers player Cat Flood break down the team's performances from the past week, which includes a statement sweep over No. 3 Kentucky and victories over Pepperdine and Jacksonville. Did this Pitt team announce its arrival on the national stage after beating Kentucky so handily? Have the Panthers found their footing after a rough start to the season that included two straight losses? How does this win shift their perspective in the national rankings? For the Kentucky game specifically, what does it mean for the team that it didn't have to overly rely on Olivia Babcock, as Dagmar Mourits and Blaire Bayless each also finished with at least nine kills? How are contributions from Bre Kelley and Ryla Jones helping? And what does it say about Dan Fisher's squad that it was able to hold its composure in those close sets against the Wildcats despite boasting a host of new players? Our duo answers those questions and more.

We've reached the semifinal round at the US Open, and journalist Chris Oddo joins the podcast to break down all the drama in New York. The TennisNow and USOpen.org writer recaps Novak Djokovic's quarterfinal win over Taylor Fritz, and explains how the Serbian legend continues to reach the business end of slams at age 38. Oddo dives into the brilliance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as they advanced to the Final Four with ease, Felix Auger Aliassime's major breakthrough, and the unfortunate fortnight for the American men. Oddo also dives into the women's draw which has featured plenty of excellent tennis and feel-good storylines. The journalist analyzes how Amanda Anisimova was able to avenge a brutal loss in the Wimbledon Final and defeat Iga Swiatek in New York, and he summarizes why Naomi Osaka's return to the final weekend of a grand slam is something truly special. And Oddo previews all the semifinal matchups including a rematch of last year's women's final as Aryna Sabalenka faces off against Jessica Pegula, and a transcendent, cross-generational matchup between Alcaraz and Djokovic. Hosted by Mitch Michals.

Devrinn Paul is entering his third year as the head coach of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team in the 2025-26 season. Paul has guided Rose-Hulman to a combined 24 wins in his first two seasons as head coach after the program won just 23 games over the previous four seasons combined. In his inaugural season in Terre Haute, Paul guided the Fighting' Engineers to a 10-win improvement over the previous season. Paul has been a member of the coaching staff at three Division One institutions, including Louisville, Cincinnati and Marshall. His stop at Louisville included two trips to the Final Four. Paul recently wrote, edited and released, on May 1, 2025, his first book titled “"Coaching the Winner Within, 7 Leadership Skills to Elevate Your Team and Your Life." To help promote and sell the book, Paul created a website to enhance the reader's experience that introduced individuals to the book and accompanying workbook. Throughout the book, Paul discusses his exposure to championship cultures that focus on preparation, humility, and leadership and his evolution of a coach while helping rebuild a program - learning how to recruit, develop talent, and elevate team chemistry. On this episode Mike and Devrinn discuss the idea that success in coaching is not solely determined by tactical knowledge, but rather by personal growth and character development. Paul emphasizes the importance of letting players express themselves on the court while fostering an environment that prioritizes their academic commitments. Additionally, he shares insights from his newly published book, "Coaching the Winner Within," which outlines seven leadership skills essential for both personal and professional elevation. As we explore Paul's experiences and philosophies, we gain valuable perspectives on the intersection of athletics, personal finance, and the significance of nurturing a supportive team culture.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on your favorite podcast app and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review. In the debut episode of Serving Up Pitt, Post-Gazette Pitt insider Abby Schnable and co-host and former Panther Cat Flood dive into Pitt volleyball's 2025 season. They take a deep dive into the roster. How will coach Dan Fisher replace the team's key departures, like Rachel Fairbanks, Emmy Klika and Valeria Vazquez Gomez? How will the team fill in around reigning AVCA Player of the Year Olivia Babcock? Abby and Cat preview the rest of the 2025 season after a rough start for the Panthers. How can they bounce back after starting the season ranked No. 3 but falling in their first two matches to Nebraska and Florida? Will the team's tough early schedule harden them for the months to come? And what is their ceiling — another Final Four appearance? Abby and Cat discuss their key takeaways from those matches and what they mean for Pitt moving forward. What do the Panthers need to fix before the upcoming State Farm Showcase at PPG Paints Arena, when they welcome No. 25 TCU and No. 13 Arizona State to Pittsburgh this weekend? In Episode 3 of Inside the Lines, Curt Conrad and Effie James talk with Shelby senior quarterback Brayden DeVito, who’s set to continue his career at the Air Force Academy. DeVito reflects on his journey from stepping onto the field as a freshman in Shelby’s last game at historic Skiles Field to becoming a four-year starter and leader for the Whippets. He shares memories of being mentored early on, the iconic hook-and-ladder play that still defines Shelby football, and how former Whippet QB Brennan Armstrong has been a constant source of support. The conversation dives into DeVito’s decision to commit to Air Force after considering—and initially dismissing—all of the service academies. He explains why the program’s brotherhood, culture, and rejection of NIL drew him in, and what it means to hear, “Come be America’s quarterback.” Beyond football, he talks about the pride of being an All-Ohioan in three sports, leading Shelby’s basketball team to its first Final Four, and how those big-game moments prepared him for what comes next. From carrying the weight of leadership now to his future service obligations, DeVito opens up about the responsibility he embraces on and off the field—before finishing with some rapid-fire favorites and how he hopes to be remembered. In the sport of lacrosse, Julie Myers is a legend. As a player, she achieved a National Championship. As a coach, she is responsible for 2 total National Championships, 6 Final Four appearances, 5 Title Game appearances, 5 ACC Championships and 27 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. She was also National Coach of the Year in 2004, ACC Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006 . She was inducted in the US Lacrosse Hall of fame and the IWLCA Hall of Fame. In 2022, She earned the Diane Geppi Aikens Lifetime Achievement Award. But athletics is only part of her story. Julie's success in sports and life is a result of grit, resilience and putting family first. Growing up, she loved competing with her siblings while appreciating how lucky she was to be able to play. As a coach, she emphasized the value of relationships and feeling connected. As a mother, she made hard decisions that kept her on the right path. In one of the biggest tragedies to affect the lacrosse communities, the death of Yeardley Love to abuse by an ex-boyfriend, Julie Myers realized that who she was and what she accomplished was just a drop in the bucket of life but also learned that every drop is incredibly important. With the beginning on The One Love Foundation, she was determined to make her ripple bigger by creating social change, raising awareness about relationship abuse and educating about relationship health. Now as CEO, she is responsible for ultimately teaching us all to “Love Better.” Julie Myers' message and legacy show us that, “It is amazing what people can do, especially when they have to.” @join1love

The quarterback battle ends with true freshman Bear Bachmeier making history as the first to start a season opener in BYU history, and Dave and Blaine spotlight how he won the job and what fans can expect from his unique background and #47 jersey.Longtime BYU Radio play-by-play voice Greg Wrubell joins the show and previews his 24th season calling Cougar football. He shares insights from around college football, reacts to BYU's 34.5-point spread, and discusses key players to watch—including under-the-radar contributors on both sides of the ball. Greg also lists his personal Top 5 BYU season openers of all time and helps break down national storylines heading into Week 1.The ReLyte Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Redmond, honors Bear Bachmeier—not just for winning the QB job, but for the remarkable path that led him to BYU: a former Stanford commit, multi-position high school star, and a gritty competitor with NFL bloodlines. His brother, Tiger, joins him at BYU this year as a wide receiver. The Cougars are set to unveil a bold new era on Saturday, and Bear will be at the center of it.Next, head coach Heather Olmstead of BYU Women's Volleyball joins to preview the start of their season in the DoTERRA Classic. With her team ranked No. 19 nationally and projected to win the Big 12, Heather reflects on coaching Team USA to U21 gold this summer, her top returners like Claire Little-Chambers, and new star Suli Davis. In a game of “What Are You Most Proud Of?” she shares personal and team accomplishments, including her unmatched .848 win percentage and Final Four run.Campus notes round out the show with highlights from soccer's 1-0 upset over No. 4 UCLA, upcoming matches, and football recruiting spotlights on Ryder Lyons and Brock Harris. The episode closes with a tribute to legendary figures born on August 25—including Sean Connery, Gene Simmons, and Neal Armstrong—and Armstrong's quote serves as the Inspirational Quote of the Week. It's the most-watched collegiate livestream on YouTube, and it's officially game week on Y's Guys. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Nate connects with a true coaching legend, former Hartwick Men's Soccer Coach, Jim Lennox. Jim spent 27 years at Hartwick, closing his career with 318 wins and leading his squad to the 1977 NCAA Division-I title. His teams made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, including five trips to the Final Four. Jim also played a key role with the U.S. Soccer program and, in 2013, received the Walt Chyzowych Award for Lifetime Achievement. He coached back-to-back Hermann Trophy winners, Glenn Myernick in 1976 and Billy Gazonas in 1977. Don't miss this rare conversation with one of the most accomplished coaches the game has ever seen, who happens to be living quietly in our area.
