There was some good and some bad in Pitt athletics this weekend, with the good being really, really good and the bad coming in the form of another disappointment. On today's Morning Pitt, we're talking about Pitt volleyball getting to the Final Four, Pitt basketball lacking an identity and a lot more.
It's a milestone podcast, but we're not quite to the final stage of the Division III football season. You can't blame us for getting dressed up -- OK, maybe just Greg decided to dress up for the audio podcast. But answering the call to the Final Four ball were who most people thought they were in our predictions this week: Johns Hopkins, John Carroll, North Central and UW-River Falls. And instead of doing the blow-by-blow of each game -- because, let's be honest, the average margin of victory was nearly 20 points -- let's hear from people in the middle of each of these games. So we'll be joined by John Carroll cornerback Dylan Crasi, who spent the first half on the sidelines but made his presence known right away in the third quarter. We'll talk to North Central quarterback Garet Wilson, whose first year in Division III since coming from Oklahoma State has been a revelation for both Division III and for him. We chat with UW-River Falls coach Matt Walker about the schematic and playbook choices the Falcons made this week, how they kept players warm (seriously, there was a detailed plan). And Keith McMillan talks to Johns Hopkins offensive lineman Michael Nwosu and defensive lineman Graham Hodge about their play on a day where the Blue Jays' line play was huge. Plus, the coaching carousel continues to turn as Ithaca loses a second consecutive coach to the Ivy League. Sewanee makes a hire who has much more D-III experience than the last guy they hired. And Lawrence didn't even give its new coach six months before cutting him loose? Patrick and Greg also hand out game balls and we take your questions in the mailbag segment, and Patrick gives an early Stagg Bowl prediction? That and more in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.
-Nebraska remains a big underdog to the Utes, but knowing it's Whittingham's final game---as they've already officially named Morgan Scalley as the new head coach for next year. -Phil Snow spoke on Friday to media…and said the defense got into too much of a lull to close the season…hmm… -Also, Husker Volleyball played yesterday vs. Texas A&M in the Elite 8….are they on to their way to a 3rd straight Final Four? It's the GO Hour with Olin Buchanan and David Nuño! They kick things off with Aggie Volleyball — Texas A&M is headed to its first Final Four in program history, breaking down the marathon 37–34 Set 4 loss to Miami, plus the twist of A&M eliminating Wisconsin's rival while Wisconsin took out A&M's rival. Then the conversation shifts to college football and the Heisman Trophy — thoughts on Fernando Mendoza winning the Heisman, Diego Pavia's reaction to finishing second, and reflections on Johnny Manziel.
Hour Two of TexAgs Live — Connor O'Gara joins us on the Buppy's Catering & Bartending Hotline to preview No. 7 Texas A&M vs. No. 10 Miami, breaking down the key matchups between the Aggies and Hurricanes. He also discusses Big Ten and SEC teams battling for the College Football National Championship and shares his thoughts on the potential relocation of bowl games. Billy Liucci of TexAgs joins the show inside the Rollo Insurance Studio to talk Aggie Volleyball's reverse sweep of Louisville, their upset win over Nebraska, and Texas A&M advancing to the Final Four.
After a brutally cold weekend, the temps are going to be improving this week. A bit chilly today, but highs near 40 degrees the rest of the week. In the news today, nobody won the Powerball jackpot on Saturday with another drawing tonight, Rob Reiner & his wife are found dead in their home, the latest on the shooting at Brown University over the weekend, and the latest on the Bondi Beach shooting as well. In sports, the Packers lost to the Broncos yesterday and Micah Parsons appeared to suffer an ACL injury. Patrick Mahomes also went down with an ALC injury yesterday. The Bucks got trounced by the Nets and the Badger women's volleyball team is into the Final Four! We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and we discussed how pop music has gotten darker over the last 50 years. Also discussed some of our favorite holiday foods! Elsewhere in sports, the Heisman Trophy was awarded over the weekend, the Brew Crew made a trade and the Badger men's basketball team is off until later this week. A list of some facts about "Home Alone" that you might not know, and speaking of being "home alone"...a breakdown of PornHub's year-in-review! Wonderful story about a farmer's widow who got some serious help from the community when she needed it the most. And another fun story about a guy who had a very interesting proposal for his fiancé. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a stolen car that got towed, a brawl at a Whole Foods, an update on the DoorDash driver who allegedly pepper-sprayed a couple's food after dropping it off, and a guy who got stuck on his roof while leaf-blowing. Welcome to Episode #65 of the No Conference for Old Men Podcast. Two convincing wins over FSU overJackson State, but are the Houston Cougars a Final Four or national championship contender this season? Houston is now 9-1 and ranked #7 in the AP and #10 in the KenPom rankings, and lots of social media chatter this week has been around how every National Champion since 2004 has been in the top 12 of the Week 6 AP Poll. For decades, kids across the south have dreamed of wearing the Carolina uniform every time they pick up a basketball. Jackson Watkins lived that dream. As a student who made the JV squad in Chapel Hill and eventually walked on to the Varsity roster, Watkins's ride gave him rivalry wins, a Final Four, and other experiences that most couldn't imagine. His journey led to his new book, "Dream On - From Basketball to Biscuits", and he joins Joey Powell to talk about all that led to it. The book is now available for preorder on Shopify: https://dreamonbook.myshopify.com/products/dream-on-paperback The Inside Carolina Podcast network features a wide range of current UNC sports topics, from game previews and instant postgame analysis, to recruiting breakdowns. This week on bigcitysmalltown, we examine one of San Antonio's newest and most debated cultural gatherings: the Krampus Parade in King William. Host Bob Rivard is joined by Bob Crittenden, senior Scrum Manager at USAA and founder of San Antonio's Krampus event, which drew approximately 10,000 participants and spectators in its inaugural year.Together, they discuss the origins of Krampus in Central European Alpine traditions, its transformation from private house visits to public festivals, and how Krampus found its place in San Antonio's holiday calendar. The conversation also highlights the unexpectedly large turnout, the local protests that fueled wider interest, and the logistical changes for this year's parade—now expanding its scope and moving to Beethoven Manicore.Topics include:• The roots of Krampus, St. Nicholas, and winter folklore across cultures• The evolution of the Krampus parade in San Antonio—from idea to city-permitted event• The intersection of German immigrant history and contemporary celebrations in King William• Public response, including media coverage, protest, and “Krampus Gate”• What to expect at this year's parade: route changes, street closures, entertainment, and costume contests• How Krampus is being localized—incorporating elements like the “devil in the dance hall” from Mexican American folklore• The growth of Krampus-themed events in San Antonio, from Fiesta medals to afterpartiesFor plugged-in San Antonians, this episode explores how global folklore shapes hyper-local celebrations—and why new traditions can provoke both controversy and community.Find more information on the 2025 Yuletide Parade at https://krampusportal.com/.RECOMMENDED NEXT LISTEN:▶️ #108.
