Nowadays, with people living more sedentary lives, many of us begin losing 1% flexibility each year, starting in our 30s. But did you know proper stretching can help slow down the aging process? And that intravenous hydration can help you deal with energy and a long list of ailments? Our guest recently opened up two separate businesses that provide those services for anyone, including athletes. (6:44) Experienced sales associate - in the field of physical therapy, health and wellness - Josh O'Neal is the co-owner of a Hydralive and his newest venture a Stretch Zone, both those in North Columbus GA. He talks about the unique advantages of those businesses...the importance of having better range of motion, even as our bodies get older...the what/why of practitioner-assisted stretching...and being proactive with flexibility. (19:55) As for jolts of hydration, Josh talks about what that does for your body...additives for that IV...other services at Hydralive like the really cold Cryotherapy. (28:41) He also talks about how a month+ furlough from his job during COVID led to being an entrepreneur who now co-owns these businesses, God opening doors with the help of a partner/nurse. (41:46) Josh's goal is helping others through enjoying experiences to improve their health. His faith in God drives that passion to focus on the Golden Rule for clients - do onto others as you'd want them to do to you. That also goes for his family and his church, which is why he fights through anxiety on the worship team. (52:10) We close our chats with his favorite parts of co-owning businesses. Samuel Majeske was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and court. What he loves most about high school sports is being a part of a team, working together, and supporting one another through not only the season but also through life's ups and downs. He obtained the honor of serving as team captain for his baseball team last season and for his basketball team this season. It is extremely important to him that he leads by example, displaying hard work and perseverance as well as respect. This past fall, he took a hit after making a tackle and ended up in the hospital for five days with a grade four kidney laceration and a lumbar fracture. The support he received from his teammates and coaches helped get him through the six weeks of recovery. Samuel is a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He participates in choir, has been a percussionist in band, and was part of the State FFA Choir. He is an active participant in FFA, serving as president for the past three years. Samuel has been involved in many activities to help his community since a young age. He has been part of the Kinship School-Based mentorship program, where he meets with younger students every week and does fun activities together. He is also very active in his church. He has been playing drums for the worship team a few Sundays each month since 8th grade. He volunteered at his Vacation Bible School program for the past six summers. As part of football, the high school players assist with the youth flag football program. This was something he enjoyed and helped run flag football each Saturday for the elementary school kids. Growing up on a family farm, agriculture is a large part of Samuel's life. His father is the fourth-generation owner of their family farm, teaching him what hard work and dedication can build. Working side by side with his father has given him many opportunities to learn a variety of skills. This strong work ethic ingrained in him will serve him well in college and his future career. Samuel has enjoyed the opportunity to share agriculture and expand his experience through FFA. One of his favorite projects was when he drove his tractor to school, which raised awareness for sharing the roads safely with farm equipment during the busy harvest season. After high school, Samuel plans to attend a four-year college to major in business. He plans to pursue his dream to continue playing basketball at a D3 school. It's important to him to recognize those who have supported him to get where he is today. His faith in God is his foundation and keeps him grounded. His family, especially his parents, also walk in faith and support his dreams, offering guidance as well as giving him enough room to learn from his mistakes.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead” (Hebrews 11:4). The story of the brothers, Cain and Able referred to here, is told in Genesis 4. Here, as in Genesis, the details are stark and sparse. Our curious minds want more details; we want more information on the difference between the two offerings. Why was Able's offering better than Cain's? Over the centuries, proposals have been offered; the most common that Able offered blood, pointing forward to Christ. But the sparse details should cause us to focus on what is here, not on curiosity satisfaction. What we know is that Able had faith and, according to Genesis, that he brought an offering from the firstborn of his flock. We also know that God counselled Cain, “Do what is right and then you will be accepted” (4:7). The end of Hebrews 10 helps our understanding. There, God is quoted, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back” (10:38). The reference here is to the Israelites who, hearing of the size of those who lived in the Promised Land, doubted that God could give it to them. They shrank back trying to return to Egypt. But they did not make it, dying in the wilderness. Faith says, God can do this and acts accordingly. Able leads the way in faith, as such, he still speaks today. He was declared righteous because of his faith, not his actions. Yet, his faith propelled him to do what was right. His righteous acts were not an effort to grain credit with God, rather, they arose out of his faith in God's Word. It says in Genesis that Able gave of his firstfruits, implying a trust that God would provide enough for tomorrow. Sometimes, we are inclined to limit faith to the big occasions in life, like when we are invited to help with a new church plant, or go on a mission trip, or give up a lucrative income to go into church work. Certainly, these things take faith. But the more common and more frequent acts of faith come in an ordinary day: putting God first, using his name respectfully, carving out time for rest and spiritual renewal, honouring those in authority, refusing to harm other people with word or action, expressing our sexuality as God intended, respecting other people's property, speaking the truth, and refusing to covet other people's stuff. These are not easy things to do, as they are contrary to the way that many folks live. Yet, believers follow them because they are God's word and will for this world. With them, we lay up treasure in heaven. The warnings against the way of Cain echo down through the ages, “The Lord hates the sacrifice of sinful people. But the prayers of honest people please him” (Proverbs 15:8). “Seek good not evil, that you may live…I hate, I despise your religious festivals…Away with the noise of your songs! But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5:14,21,23,24). The danger is always that we focus on the actions: do enough good things and God will be happy. But God sees and tests the heart. Able believed in God's invisible Word and lived accordingly. He trusted God; as a result, he did what was right. It was his faith for which he was commended. His faith in God, led his life. Let the Holy Spirit test your motivations. Ask the Spirit to deepen your faith. As you journey on, go with the blessing of God: May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing; at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.

Is the God you serve a real God or a figment of your imagination? You'd better figure that out while you still have time because Pastor Jeff reminds you that every other god besides the one true God is a false one, and they will leave you high and dry when you need them the most. Instead, look at the example of Daniel, who had been given the power to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar's dream by the God of Israel. His faith in God set him apart from all of the king's mystics and gave him the ability to gain a position of privilege in the king's court.

Last time, we studied the 1st Lamentation of Christ from the Cross describing His spiritual suffering (v1-5). This week, we study the 2nd Lamentation of Christfrom the Cross describing His mental suffering (v6-11), from His enemies who mocked and humiliated Him as He suffered. “But I am a WORM, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people” (v6, see Isaiah 53:3). This is made worse by the fact that ‘the people' are His own people – Israel). Being a WORM is a figure of speech describing how helpless, despised, weak He felt, as those who hated Him treated Him as a worm, only worthy of being trampled under foot (see Isaiah 41:14, where Israel was compared to a worm under the foot of her enemies, yet God promised to deliver her). But there is also a deeper meaning to this picture. The word for ‘worm' is ‘tolaith' - the same word as for ‘scarlet', for these worms were crushed to create a costly, brilliant, beautiful and enduring red dye from their blood. Crimson-dyed clothes were costly (Lam. 4:5). It was used for dyeing the curtains of the Tabernacle (Ex. 26:1), the garments of the high priests; in the purification rites of a leper (Lev 14:4–6), and of a house affected by leprosy; and it was added to the ashes of the red heifer (Num 19:6). Likewise, Christ was crushed for us and His Blood was used to cleanse, purify and clothe us as Temples of God. Moreover, thus worm would reproduce by attaching itself to the limb of a tree and would die in the process of giving birth! We were weak and helpless as a worm, worthy to be rejected and crushed because of our sin, but God valued us and redeemed us, by becoming a worm in our place, made weak, helpless and vulnerable to the attacks of people, and He was treated like a worm to be crushed by our sin and curse to make us whole. v7-8: All those who see Me ridicule Me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head (show contempt with their mouth)” (for the fulfilment see Matthew 27:39, Mark 15:29), saying: “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” (for the fulfilment see Matthew 27:41-44). It is important to recognise the evil voice of the serpent behind this attack. It is more than the mockery of hatred. This was a mental torture, designed to attack and undermine His faith, His very connection with God, when He was at His most vulnerable, when it seemed as if God was abandoning Him and not hearing His prayers. The serpent, speaking through these men, tried to play with His mind and deceive and persuade Him by suggestion that God had finished with Him, that He did not actually love Him or delight in Him, and so He should let go of God. This was a more dangerous attack than the attack on His body, for it was satan's voice trying to penetrate His inner heart, sowing seeds of doubt saying: “If God really loved you, you would not suffer like this, or He would have delivered you, so give up your faith in God.” But God did delight in Him and would deliver Him in the resurrection. Likewise, when we suffer, whether it is because we have sinned or not, satan comes as the accuser to whisper his lies to us that God does not love us any more, and that we should abandon our loyalty to God. At that time, it is important that we should not be passive, but answer these evil thoughts by declaring our faith, that God does love us, that He has redeemed us by His Blood, and that we will always love and trust God (Rev 12:10-11) This is exactly what Christ does, when He moves from His Lament to focusing back on God and declaring His faith in God in v9-10: “BUT YOU are He who took Me out of the womb; You made (caused) Me (to) trust while on My mother's breasts. I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother's womb You have been My God.” This predicts the Messiah will be sinless and in perfect fellowship with God from birth, not having a sin-nature because of the virgin birth (Gen 3:15, Isa 7:14, confirming that He is not suffering because of his sins. This is only true of Christ, not David (Psalm 51:5). So, He had never experienced any separation from God before. Whereas He previously established His faith on God's proven faithfulness to Israel, as recorded in the Bible (v3-5), here He establishes his faith on God's faithfulness in His own life. Based on God's constant faithful Presence with Him as His God, throughout His life, He knows that God will not suddenly abandon Him now. From that place of faith, and prays that God would draw close to Him again to help Him, and deliver Him from trouble, as He has always done before: “Be not far from Me, for trouble is near; for there is none to help” (v11). God answered this prayer at His resurrection.

Psalm 16 is an important Messianic Psalm, quoted by Peter & Paul to prove Jesus is the promised Messiah. Peter quoted Ps16:8-11 in Acts 2:25-28 and expounded it in Acts 2:22-33, as a central part of his sermon. It speaks of a Man who dies and His soul goes to Sheol, but is resurrected before His body sees corruption (within 3 days). Also, He is then exalted to God's right hand (v9-11). He points out the Psalmist, David, died and is still in his tomb (his body saw corruption). Thus, it was not fulfilled by David, but rather he spoke by the Spirit of Prophecy about Christ, the Son of David, that He'd be resurrected before his body saw corruption (v29-31). He then said Jesus fulfilled this Prophecy by His 3rd day resurrection, proving He is the Christ (v32,36). He also pointed out Jesus was exalted to God's right hand, fulfilling Ps 16:11 & 110:1, as confirmed by the Outpouring of the Spirit (Acts 2:33-35). Likewise, Paul in Acts 13:35 quoted Ps 16:10 and expounded it in Acts 13:36-39 to prove Jesus is the Christ. Thus though we can read much of Ps 16 as David's words of trust in God for preservation & provision in this life and hope for his eternal life in God's Presence, the words only find ultimate fulfilment in Christ. So, we should read them as Christ's words, given by prophecy, as He approached death, expressing His faith in God to resurrect Him. Although God, He had to live as a man totally depending on God for everything, including His resurrection: "Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust...You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You (or 'every good thing comes from You')” (v1-2). He's our perfect example of how to live by faith. He describes the saints (those who trust in Him) as the excellent (noble) ones, in whom is all His delight (v3). This shows Christ had us on His heart & mind as He went to the Cross. We are precious in His sight, and so gave Himself for us, so we might be His forever: "for the joy (us, His Bride) set before Him, He endured the Cross" (Hebrews 12:2). As our example, He reveals a key part of living by faith - the rejection of all other gods & idolatry (v4), including covetousness (Col 3:5), for men turn from a pure devotion to the true God and hasten after (seek) other gods is to possess what they offer (prosperity). But the more they multiply their gods & idols the more their sorrows multiply (v4). A classic example is Man's Fall. God provided abundantly, and would have given them more, as they proved themselves faithful, but listening to Satan made them dissatisfied with His Presence and their allotted inheritance, so they became covetous to gain more, and so rejected His authority, claiming autonomy as their own gods, and went their own way, but soon found they gained nothing, but rather lost His Blessing, and their sorrows multiplied. The truth is if we seek 1st the Kingdom (reign) of God over our life and live by His righteous Spirit in our heart, all things will be added to us (Matt 6:33). Thus, we need to learn to be satisfied (content) with God Himself (His Presence in our heart), and with whatever inheritance of possessions & experiences He chooses to give us (as a bonus), both now, in the future and in eternity (Rev 21:7, Phil 4:11-13, 1Tim 6:6). This is exactly what David & Christ declare: "O Lord, YOU are the PORTION of my INHERITANCE and my CUP (what God appoints for me to experience); You maintain my LOT (if we trust Him, He will guard our eternal inheritance, so none can steal it). The (boundary) lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a GOOD INHERITANCE" (v5-6). God is generous (good), giving us much more than we deserve, so we can submit to Him and trust Him day by day for His Presence & gracious provisions, rather than turning from Him in striving & lust to grasp what He's not giving us at this time. In this manner, He declares: "I have set the Lord (not things or experiences) always before Me... I shall not be moved" (v8). As a result, He has assurance God will guide & preserve Him by His Presence on the path of life, thru this life, then thru death & resurrection and exaltation to God's right hand in Heaven, where He'll give Him fullness of joy in His Presence & pleasures (experiences) for all eternity: "You will show me the path of life. In Your Presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (v11). These verses also apply to us, for we are "heirs of God & joint heirs with Christ" (Rom 8:17). He's our example to follow, that we should trust in God and be satisfied with His Presence in our hearts, and the possessions, gifts, opportunities, positions, blessings & experiences He gives us in this life, knowing He's prepared a wonderful eternal future and inheritance for us, way beyond our present experience & imagination (1Cor 2:9, Eph 2:7), where we'll be exalted and experience fullness of joy in His Presence.

Readings: Isaiah 50:4–7 Psalm 22:8–9, 17–20, 23–24 Philippians 2:6–11 Mark 14:1–15:47 Crowned with thorns, our Lord is lifted up on the Cross, where He dies as “King of the Jews.” Notice how many times He is called “king” in today's Gospel—mostly in scorn and mockery. As we hear the long accounts of His Passion, at every turn we must remind ourselves—He suffered this cruel and unusual violence for us. He is the Suffering Servant foretold by Isaiah in today's First Reading. He reenacts the agony described in today's Psalm, and even dies with the first words of that Psalm on His lips (see Psalm 22:1). Listen carefully for the echoes of this Psalm throughout today's Gospel—as Jesus is beaten, His hands and feet are pierced; as His enemies gamble for His clothes, wagging their heads, mocking His faith in God's love, His faith that God will deliver Him. Are we that much different from our Lord's tormenters? Often, don't we deny that He is King, refusing to obey His only commands that we love Him and one another? Don't we render Him mock tribute, pay Him lip service with our half-hearted devotions? In the dark noon of Calvary, the veil in Jerusalem's temple was torn. It was a sign that by His death Jesus destroyed forever the barrier separating us from the presence of God. He was God and yet humbled Himself to come among us, we're reminded in today's Epistle. And despite our repeated failures, our frailty, Jesus still humbles Himself to come to us, offering us His body and blood in the Eucharist. His enemies never understood: His kingship isn't of this world (see John 18:36). He wants to write His law, His rule of life on our hearts and minds. As we enter Holy Week, let us once more resolve to give Him dominion in our lives. Let us take up the cross He gives to us—and confess with all our hearts, minds, and strength that truly this is the Son of God.

Welcome my friends to season 3 of the Determined to Dance podcast. My prayer is that you'll be encouraged to persevere daily in our chaotic world. Today's episode, The Dance of Trust, focuses on the secret of dancing in the dark. Show Notes: The Dance of Trust Have you ever struggled to trust people? I have. People are very human and sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose, they lie, manipulate, scheme, and we are left broken, afraid to trust again. As a child, another kid I hoped was nice teased me for crying during my first day at a new school. As a teenager, a pastor told me to join his church if I wanted to see my dad healed. And as an adult, I've met people in the community, school, family, and church who were not who they pretended to be. It left me jaded. Bewildered. And most of all, afraid to trust anyone again. I believe you totally understand where I'm coming from. Some of you listening are nodding your heads, an image conjured in your mind of untrustworthy people. How can we trust in a world with crooked politicians, business leaders, and even church leaders and people in education who go astray? What does God say? John 2:23-25: “Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn't trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person's heart.” NLT Jesus knew all about people. Some might be evil, but many were probably just weak, shy, nervous, or busy. Just like us. Jesus still loved people. But He put His faith in God, not those around Him. Here are three verses I love to read when I have trust issues. Psalm 56:3: “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.” NKJV Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” NKJV Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.” NKJV God says don't fear or be dismayed. He will strengthen, help, keep, and uphold. In other words, we can trust Him. It's found again and again throughout the word of God. God is trustworthy. So, what can we do to twirl and whirl with God, trusting Him with everything in our lives? Spend time with God in prayer. We learn to trust as we draw closer to Him. Spend time in God's Word. We study and learn what a mighty God He is. Surrender our will to Him. We follow Him, who knows us best. Remember the ways God has shown up when we needed him. Find wise counsel when you struggle. A trustworthy friend or family member is worth more than gold. Understand now that there will be struggles. People have disappointed me before and it will probably happen again. My focus is to love people the best I can, separate from those who have violated trust and are not repentant, and find wisdom and discernment through prayer, the Word, and honorable people who love the Lord. We must make sure to take time and heal after trust has been broken. Many relationships can be mended if the other person is willing to change. We should seek any fault we may have ourselves so the relationship will be whole and fulfilling to both parties. We'll never find a perfectly trustworthy person on this earth, but Jesus lived a sinless life and is ever interceding for us in heaven. The Holy Spirit resides in us and can help us avoid unfaithful people if we seek His wisdom. Let's pray: Father God, we come to You today and thank You for being a trustworthy God. We've been hurt and disillusioned by unreliable people and need your healing touch in our lives. Show us our faults so we can repent and move on. Thank you for Jesus who prays for us daily and the Holy Spirit who helps us along life's paths. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen. People can disappoint us, but God is always there,

Surrounded By Lions is a Sermon Series in the book of Daniel. In this powerful sermon, we delve into the book of Daniel, a captivating narrative that showcases the exemplary character of a man who faced incredible challenges in a foreign culture. Through the life of Daniel, we will uncover valuable lessons on how Christians can navigate and positively influence the culture they find themselves in.Daniel's story begins with him being taken captive in Babylon during a time of upheaval. Despite being surrounded by a culture that contradicted his faith, Daniel's response was remarkable. He did not isolate himself or conform to the world's ways; instead, he chose to stand firm in his faith and remain faithful to God.One crucial aspect of Daniel's approach was his unwavering commitment to prayer. Amidst the cultural pressures to worship Babylonian gods, Daniel devoted himself to regular communion with the one true God. His prayer life became the foundation of his relationship with God, empowering him to discern God's will and receive divine wisdom.Furthermore, Daniel demonstrated remarkable wisdom and integrity in his interactions with those in authority. His respectful yet firm stance when it came to dietary laws revealed his determination to honor God above all else. By being true to his convictions, Daniel proved that one can remain faithful to God while also engaging respectfully with culture.Another remarkable attribute of Daniel was his reliance on God's power to interpret dreams and visions. His faith in God's ability to reveal mysteries empowered him to navigate the challenges of an unfamiliar culture with confidence. Daniel's life serves as a powerful reminder that when we put our trust in God, He equips us to overcome cultural pressures and walk in His purpose. As Christians, we can draw inspiration from Daniel's example. We are called to be in the world but not of it, just as Daniel was. Instead of retreating from culture, we should engage with it, seeking opportunities to be salt and light. Like Daniel, we must maintain a strong prayer life, allowing God's wisdom to guide us in our decision-making and interactions. In an age where cultural pressures can be overwhelming, Daniel's unwavering commitment to God's truth provides us with a blueprint for engagement. As we explore the book of Daniel, let us be encouraged to follow his example, standing firm in our faith, relying on God's wisdom, and being agents of positive change in the culture around us. By doing so, we can impact our world for Christ and bring glory to God in all we do.FOLLOW First Christian ChurchYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/firstchristianchurchofbrazilindianaFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/fccbrazilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/fccbrazilTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/fccbrazilTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@fccbrazil?

The greatest of these has been Godzchild Publications, whose purpose was defined twenty-one years ago after Shaun's grandparents launched the Holiness Pentecostal Church of Christ in Newark, NJ (without a high school diploma or letters behind their name). Education was their stumbling block, but Jesus was their Cornerstone. They chose to obey God's leading and since then, have raised a generation of teachers who are studying at top universities in the nation such as: Yale University, Duke University, Drew University and Emory University. This publication company, therefore, seeks to assist all writers; especially those whose credentials (or the lack thereof) make it difficult to receive national respect or international attention. We are interested in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that cause Christians to rethink Christianity and encourage strangers to receive salvation. We publish positive and spiritual materials that engage the whole man or the whole woman. We are not restricted to religious texts alone, but we are openly and unapologetically a Christian Publishing House. As the author of Seeing God in Everything and co-author of WE Must, WE Shall: The Worship and Evangelism Workbook, Shaun awaits the day when Jesus will review the written offerings he has published, and hopes to hear God say with joyful appreciation, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Bill Bean is a nationally known author and lecturer. He is an experiencer, victim, survivor and conqueror of evil. His faith in GOD has inspired many people around the country and in different parts of the world. Bill says, "GOD truly delivered me from evil". William John Bean was born on July 29, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were William & Patricia Bean. Bill has a sister named Patti and a brother named Bobby. In 1970, the Bean family moved into a modest three bedroom ranch style house located in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The community was called, "Harundale". Bill recalled his first memories of the house were frightening ones. "It had a very foreboding and ominous feel from the start", he said. What the family didn't know is that a demonic force already occupied their new home. Bill Bean stated, "My family was literally torn apart by an evil force that co-existed among us. The activity began as noises and gradually escalated into violent physical attacks on us by the entities". In his book Dark Force, Bill Bean painfully describes in terrifying detail the events that tormented his family. As disturbing as some of the content in Dark Force is, there's a very powerful message of hope and faith that has affected many readers in a positive way. Here's an excerpt from a review on Dark Force : "Every now and then a book comes along that you just can't put down. Dark Force is among those books. I have read many true- life stories, but not since reading Jay Anson's, Amityville Horror has a story stayed in my mind. Hour after hour and day after day". Bill starred in a Discovery Channel broadcast about his story. The show aired on September 7, 2006 on the series, "A Haunting". The segment is called, "House of the Dead" and is one of the most watched segments. It's often shown during Bill's lectures, along with a jaw dropping photo presentation. Bill has taken many bizarre photos of anomalous phenomena over the years. Bill Bean has traveled around the country leaving audiences both riveted and inspired. Kyle Turner's life turned upside-down when his daughter Maegan was diagnosed with a neurological disorder that required 24/7 care, a role he joyfully embraces. Hear what being a father and grandfather mean to him this week on Now I See. Six years in the army and fourteen years as an owner/manager of six high profile health and fitness centers helped Kyle Turner become tough. Being a husband, a father of three, and a grandfather of three has made him tender. This is especially evident in the way he cares for Maegan, his daughter who was diagnosed with a neurological disorder that requires 24/7 care. Kyle found a job he could do from home so he could be present and provide for his family. In the course of Maegan's care, Kyle and his wife Vernetta learned more than they never wanted to know about seizures and medications, breathing treatments, feeding tubes, palliative career, cognitive and muscle therapies. They have spent more than 900 days in the Neurovascular Intensive Care Unit (NVICU), and even more on their knees in prayer. —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “I never saw this as a burden,” said Kyle, who embraces the opportunity to show a high level of extraordinary care for his family. Rather than feeling like he's missing out on life, Kyle insists he has grown richer in all the ways that really matter. His faith in God is strong and sure. His life is full of meaningful relationships with people he's known since high school, business colleagues and friends, a close-knit family, and a team of medical professionals who have walked with them every step of the way. Life's unpredictabiites have caused him to let go of the things he can't control, and prioritize the things he can, chief among them, his attitude. He is joyful, peaceful and grateful. How? You'll have to hear him tell it on this week's episode of Now I See. He's also given over 100 interviews and is always in demand for lectures, conventions and show appearances. *We experienced a power outage during our time of worship, therefore the audio is lower quality than usual.* This week Tyler Schenzel continued on with our Hebrews 11 faith series. Faith is the organ that allows us to see the supernatural things of God. Successful faith is not about us and how much of it we have, but rather who we put our faith in. It is not the amount or stability of our faith, but the object of our faith. Tyler opened up the chapter with the story of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and this righteousness did not come by his works. It is as Pastor Murdoch once said, righteousness is not our responsibility, but it is our response to God's ability. We need to hear the word, study the word, and apply the word. In order for the promises of God to take root in our lives, we need to apply the word of God to our lives. We need to live in obedience to the Word of God, and give our lives away. Noah's actions were proof of His faith in God, because the one who loves the Lord keeps His commands. God is good, and His faithfulness is never ending.

Faith Activates Everything in God's Kingdom

Happy mother's day while we're taking a break from our first Timothy study. So we're going to be in Hebrews chapter 11. We're talking about faith this week. Last week, we talked about miracles in light of, especially this new building that we're, we've leased over one Oh two West branch. And today we're talking about faith and how it activates everything. God's kingdom, faith activates everything in God's kingdom. That's the title of our message. And it's the focus of our message. And it's really the reality of our faith as followers of the Lord. 3 (15m 3s): Jesus Christ. I mean think about it. We were saved by 4 (15m 8s): God 3 (15m 9s): Because we put our faith in him in his ability to save us, to forgive us, to cleanse us and to adopt us into his family. So by faith, we are experienced salvation and new life in him. And then by faith, we pray to this. God that's invisible. We can't see him. We can sense him. And we know that he's real. And we know that his word is real. So we can sense something in our spirit that God is real, but he's invisible. And so by faith, we pray. And then by faith, we have great expectations of a great God. And I would say, we need to have great expectations because we serve a great and powerful and all sufficient God. 3 (15m 55s): And so everything is activated in Christianity, in God's kingdom, by faith, without faith. We're going to read here in just a little bit or talk about without faith. It's impossible to please God. And we need to believe that he's a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. So we're going to talk about how faith activates everything in God's kingdom. And we're going to answer the question. What does biblical faith, what does that look like? And hopefully at the end of the message, we're going to have some clarity about faith and what that means for our lives, because it's not something that just a select few experience or are expected to operate in. 3 (16m 37s): It's actually for the church, every one of us, young, young and old everybody's expected to operate by faith. And we see that in the old Testament, as we look at he heroes of faith and his word, continuing to teach, we're going to see God's example through these heroes of faith and where we can actually read about them and then mimic and copy their behavior and become the people that God has called us to be. So what is biblical faith? Hebrews 11 one says this faith shows, faith shows the reality of what we hope for. It is the evidence of things we cannot see hope for cannot see both invisible. 3 (17m 22s): Faith is the reality of those things. Faith shows us the reality of what we hope for. It is the evidence of things we can not see. The living Bible paraphrase says this in Hebrews 11 one, it says, what is faith? It is the confident assurance. And this is the kind of attitude that we should have before the living God, this confident assurance as we walk this life of faith, that God is up to something and he's going to do something in us and with us and through us, it is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. So if you've ever been in the place, I know you have, if you have been walking with the Lord for even a day or a week or a month or 10 years or 50 years, God puts something, a vision within us that requires faith. 3 (18m 12s): Maybe, maybe you're praying for relationship. Maybe you're praying for a family member. Maybe you're praying for resources. Maybe you're praying for a job, whatever it is. God has placed something in us that allows us to operate in this place of faith. We're saying, God, I don't know how this is going to happen. I think about the people of Israel coming out of Egypt after slavery, and there was no path before them. They come up against the sea and they're so God, the scripture says, made a way where there was 5 (18m 40s): No way. There 3 (18m 43s): Is no path forward until God opens up the sea and gives us the path forward. What is faith is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is a certain, it is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us. Even though we cannot see it up ahead. Someone said a weak faith, a weak faith is weakened by predicament and catastrophes. Where is a strong faith is strengthened by them. So where's your faith. Today? Is your faith strengthened by difficulty, by challenges in your life? 3 (19m 25s): Or is it weekend? I would say that God wants to strengthen your faith on every level. Now, like most of us, we have faith in some areas of our life, but not so much in other areas of our lives. Some areas we have just like either no faith or just a very little bit of faith. If we even have a mustard seed of faith, we can do amazing things. We moved mountains. The scripture says, so God will use the tiniest bit of faith in our lives. When we step into it and out of obedience and trusting God, exercise that faith and do what he's asked us to do wonderful and supernatural things will happen, but we've got to step into it. 3 (20m 5s): The people of Israel needed to step into the water. They needed to move forward before the water actually opened up and they were able to pass through on dry land. And that's what we see. We see God requiring us to take a step of faith. Before, before we actually see the answers, see the provision before we actually receive what he has for us. He's actually calling us into a place of faith. A weak faith is weakened by predicament and catastrophes. Whereas a strong faith is strengthened by them through their faith. Verse two, Hebrews 11, two through their faith that people in days of old earned a good reputation. 3 (20m 48s): There's something about the kingdom of God. When we see people within the kingdom of God, exercising, faith, they earned a good reputation. Why? Because they're, they're doing stuff for God. They believe God. And they're actually stepping into the, his supernatural plans for their life. And so we honor, and we esteem those who have faith because it's those people who have faith, who are doing the things that God has called them to do. But listen, it's not for special people. It's for all of us, God has called all of us to be people of faith so that we might step into those supernatural plans that he's called us to. So whatever it is that stirring within your life, within your soul begin to step into it. 3 (21m 31s): Even if you've only got a little bit of confidence. 2 (21m 36s): We, as we thought about 3 (21m 37s): One Oh two, we've been thinking about for months. When I, when I say one Oh two, that's the new worship space over there. So just for ease of saying that we were going to call it one Oh two for now, but it's the new worship space. When we started thinking months ago, 2 (21m 52s): Probably more than months ago, 3 (21m 55s): Maybe over a year ago, we started thinking about what, where do we grow from here? What do we do from here? What's next for us? And so we started looking at spaces. We looked at a few spaces, there's a space over here. It's just too small for us. And then this space at one Oh two 2 (22m 8s): Available. And we thought, well, this is, this is kind of impossible. 3 (22m 16s): We, we can't afford it. It's going to take a ton of money for renovations. It's really, it's not doable butts, but we begin to exercise just a little bit of faith. And so I made a phone call and I called doc John, hi Ashley. I said, John, I said, we'd like to look at your space. We're a church. We'd like to make it a worship center. What do you think? He said, yeah, come on down. We'll take a look at it. He said, he said, it's no problem. The city is going to let you in there. And I said, okay, well, we'll see what happens when I call the city. And the city said, Nope, the city said, we're not allowing any new churches in the downtown village Corps. I said, is that legal? And they said, I think so. I said, well, it's actually illegal because I had a letter in my possession from an attorney from Pacific justice Institute who wrote me a five page letter, citing law and other cases where the courts overturned a decision to prohibit churches from being in downtown village, core area type areas. 3 (23m 16s): And so I said, Hey Patrick, this is one of the planters down in the village or in the city. I said, Hey, can I send you this letter that I have for my attorney? He said, yes, send it over. This was a Friday. He said, send it over. I said, and we'll have our city attorney tech, you know, take a look at it. So I sent it over to him on Friday afternoon, Monday morning, I get a letter back from the Villa, the city of Aurora grantee. And they said, Hey, your attorney's with PJI Pacific justice Institute are accurate in their assessment. This space, we are ready to move forward. All you need is a, just a use permit and we can accommodate your needs in the village. So what seemed impossible God, through a five-page letter from an attorney turned around and made possible for us, but then we're thinking, can we afford it? 6 (24m 5s): Can we move 3 (24m 7s): Forward? But by God's grace, we've just began to take steps in that direction. And so when I said that, God never really shows you the picture until you step into it. The God has begin to show us the picture. So I was, I got a bid for, we have to put fire sprinklers in that building over there and the, the underground. So you have to tie into the city's water main. It's a big deal. You have to cut into the streets and sidewalks and all that sort of thing. So it was a big deal. A friend of mine gave me a price of $30,000 for that job. And this is a friend of mine. So he was like, Hey, this is the good guy price. It's $30,000. So I'm like kind of limiting the price and wondering where that money is going to come from. 3 (24m 48s): And then I'm talking in a circle of friends after church last Sunday, and a guy who I know does underground work said, Hey, I do that kind of work. I said, you, you do that kind of work. I know you do underground stuff. I didn't realize you do that kind of work. And he said, yeah, that's actually what we do. Most of the time we do that kind of work, we tie into the city's water main. And we, we put in check valves and that sort of thing, he said, I'll just do it. I'll just take care of it for you. So I called him up a couple of days later and I said, 6 (25m 17s): Hey, what did you mean 3 (25m 20s): When you said, I'll just do it. I said, how much is this going to cost us? He said, well, have I ever charged you for anything in the past? And the answer is no, he's never charged us for anything in the past. So we'll probably have to buy some materials and that sort of thing, but that went away. I needed, we need a ton of electrical work done in the space. And so I'm at the space at one Oh two on Friday. And I decided to walk over to village, grill for a sandwich. I get a big old burger with greasy, all kinds of goodness on it. So while I'm over there, I run into a guy and his family from the church and he said, Hey, do you need any electrical work done at the new building? I said, yeah, but it's big commercial stuff. 3 (26m 2s): It's going to require a ton of work. Are you up for that kind of work? He said, we do it all the time. It's no big deal. He said, well, I'll just me. And my son will go in there and we'll just do it. We'll just do it. So the electrical is taken care of. I got a painter who's taking care of the painting. It may cost us a little bit for the paint, but electrical. We're getting a good deal on the underground. We've got a great deal on the fire sprinklers on the inside of the building, great deal on HVAC. I'm missing something. There was something else that I was going to throw in there. But God, what we're seeing is we stepped out and said, okay, Lord, this is what we want to do is what we feel called to do. And we prayed about it. So don't just ready. Fire aim. Think about what you're doing and get some confirmation from the Holy spirit. 3 (26m 43s): Think through what you're doing. You know, don't be reckless. God will show you, but then he'll, he'll bring confirmation to an affirmation to you about things that you feel called to do. And maybe, maybe it takes weeks or months or years before things come to fruition, but God will, will show you what to do. So I had talked about it with my staff and elders and we prayed about it and thought about it and all that sort of thing. And finally, that's when we decided to move forward. So it wasn't like ready fire aim. It was like, man, is this what the Lord has for us? And that's what we felt like together unified that we feel like the Lord has got this for us. So through their faith that people have old in days of old and earned a good reputation by, by faith back to Hebrews 11, three by faith, we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command. 3 (27m 36s): The entire universe was formed at God's command. That what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. So often what we do is we hear in our spirit, right? So don't, don't allow your head to get in the way of what God is saying in your spirit. Now God has given us a brain and we think through everything, we budget for stuff. We figure stuff out, but don't let your head get in the way of what God is speaking to you in your spirit, because this is what we don't happen to your head. I talked about this last week, I think in your head, you argue with God in your head, you are fearful, anxious, nervous. You can't see it in your head. You're disobedient to God, but in your spirit, when you know when your soul, like in your guts, that God has called you to do something and you step into it. 3 (28m 22s): That's where the victory comes. That's where the provision comes. That's where God shows up amazing miracles. When we just with that mustard seed of faith, step into it, let's see if he can speak the universe into existence by the word, by just speaking. It's often what we'll do is we'll look at the raw material of our lives, our ability, our resources, what we can do in the natural. And we dismiss everything that God wants to do. We're like, I know God, you probably want to do this, but I don't got the money. I don't got the time. I don't got the ability. I it's, I don't have any that you, so what if I'm calling you to it? Okay. What if I've got plans for you and purpose for you? 3 (29m 4s): He speaks to the universe into existence. By his words, I think he can take our rough raw materials or our absence, raw materials and do something wonderful with it. He wants to do that with our lives personally and our families. And with our by faith, we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command. That what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Verse four. It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to then Cain did Abel's offering, gave evidence that he was a righteous man and God showed his approval of his gifts. 3 (29m 52s): Although Abel is although able is long dead. He still speaks to us by his example of faith. He's long dead, but we're still talking about Abel and his faith. Let's look at the story about Cain and Abel in Genesis chapter four, some of the slides are messed up. We're going to go into Genesis now, but then we're going to go back to Hebrews. I think some of them say Genesis, when they should say Hebrews, I'll try to keep you up to speed on that. Here we go. Genesis chapter four verses one through five. Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife Eve and she became pregnant. And when she gave birth to Cain, she said with the Lord's help, I have produced a man later. She gave birth to his brother and named him Abel, when they grew up, Abel became a shepherd while cane cultivated the ground. 3 (30m 36s): When it was time for the harvest cane presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. The ESV says in verse three, in the course of time, Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruits of the ground. So it seems like from the context of what we're reading about, because Hebrews 11 is all about faith. People's exercise of faith in the scripture. And so in that context, through that lens, we need to interpret what is happening here with Cain and Abel, I think, and it seems from the texts that came, brought an offering, but he brought it in his own timing and he brought, it seems whatever is left over from his crops. 3 (31m 31s): So he brought his offering, but it was in his own timing and whatever was left over from his crops since he brought some of his crops able on the other hand, brought the best portion of the firstborn lambs from his flock. So Abel brought the first and the best. It appears that Cain brought whenever he felt like it, whatever was left over Genesis four, four says Abel also brought a gift. The best portion of the first born lambs from his flock, the Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept cane and his gift. 3 (32m 17s): This made Cain very angry and he looked dejected. Abel brought his first and best Cain brought whenever it was convenient for him, whatever was left over. That's the difference. And that's why God received Abel's offering. And he did not receive canes offering. We either bring God the best and the first, or we bring God our leftovers. There's no middle ground there. We either bring God the best in first. Or we bring him our leftovers and we see how it worked out for Cain and Abel. This story is highlighted in the hall of faith because it's a story about faith. 3 (33m 2s): It was Abel's faith that allowed him to bring his first and his best. He wanted to honor God by faith with his first and his best. He wanted to make sure God was honored and worshiped with his giving before he did anything else. It seems like Cain's offering was given once everything else was kind of taken care of whenever he felt like it, he gave his offering. Whatever it was that was left over Abel's offering was given in faith. Cain's gift was given as the leftover God accepted Abel's offering and rejected. Cain's essentially Abel's offering was given by faith. 3 (33m 45s): Keynes was not. So when we ask you to give toward a project like this or whatever we want it to be done out of faith, in fact, the Bible says he desires a joyful giver. So hold onto your resources until you're ready to give it joyfully and then give whatever you want to give. As the Lord leads, I believe 10% is the beginning. 7 (34m 12s): Some would argue 3 (34m 13s): That's an old Testament principle. I think it's a through and through principle. So give whatever the Lord would ask you to give or sell and chairs and squares, not really selling them, but that's that didn't sound right where we got chairs and squares available for this new space. So a chair is a chair and a square is a square square footage of flooring. So that's kinda what we're, we're giving people an opportunity to enter into this program or this, this process, this faith process by buying a chair in a square. So we have this gal in our church who said, I want to buy, not only for me, but I want to buy for my kids and my grandkids who attend the church. So I think there's six of them. So she bought six chairs and six squares. 3 (34m 53s): So I thought what a great idea. I've got a clan of 12 here. So maybe I'll buy 12 squares and 12 chairs for my clan. And I had this idea and then I share it with Jolene. And I haven't gotten your read on that yet. We'll we'll, we'll talk, we'll talk. That's just an idea. 7 (35m 9s): We'll talk. The idea 3 (35m 11s): Is to create opportunity for all of us to enjoy what God has called us into. This is the beauty of God in his kingdom is he actually invites us people into his kingdom work so that we can be blessed through the process and grow in our faith through the process. And somebody said, you know, if we buy a chair, do we get our name on it? 7 (35m 32s): And no, unless 3 (35m 34s): You want to Mark it with a marker underneath the chair, that would be fine, but no names on the chairs most likely. And so we're just going to move forward. Believing that guy will provide for 2 (35m 43s): Thing. Number one, 3 (35m 48s): Faith gives the best. And 2 (35m 50s): First of everything, number two, 3 (35m 54s): Faith changes the way we live 2 (35m 58s): Back to Hebrews 3 (35m 59s): Chapter 11, verse five, it says it was by faith. That Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying. He disappeared because God took him for before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God. And it is impossible to please God, without faith. So we know that Enoch was a man of faith because it says that he please God, and it is impossible actually to please God, unless we're operating with faith. And so we know that Enoch was a man of faith and it says anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists. That's a faith belief and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. 3 (36m 43s): So we believe that he exists and he is a rewarder of those who sincerely seek him. Faith changes the way that we live, Equinox, faith, please, God, and God, God was pleased with him because of his faith. And you not believe God existed. And he knocked, sincerely sought after God. And then God just took him. Let's take a look. Genesis five 21 through 24. When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters thus, all the days of Enoch were 365 years. He knocked walk with God and he was not for God took him. 3 (37m 27s): Isn't that great? What a cool thing to be so close in age intimate with the Lord that he decides one day, I'm going to take you up. You don't have to go through the dying process because that's kind of a bummer. You don't have to die at all. You just get taken up, right? You just get taken up. And all of a sudden you're in the presence of the Lord. Faith changed the way that Enoch lived his life. He lived as a man of faith. We know very little about ENR, except that he was a guy who pleased the Lord and we can deduce from that. But he was a man of faith. He's in the hall of faith after all Hebrews chapter 11. So we know he was a man of faith. We know that he pleased God because he pleased God and walked with God. 3 (38m 9s): He took him up. He watched me God for 300 years. 2 (38m 12s): That's a long time, 3 (38m 13s): Right? That's a long time. That's not like a flash in the pan. Like I'm going to walk with God for a few weeks or a few months or a few years. And he walked with God for 300 2 (38m 26s): Years 3 (38m 27s): And God took him. That's faithful. And this that speaks to us that we have the capacity to faithfully walk with God and faithfully the Lord for hundreds and hundreds of years should the Lord tarry. Although we're not going to be given that many years, but for all the days 2 (38m 43s): Of your life, faith gives the best. And first 3 (38m 48s): Everything faith changes the way we live in. Number three, faith moves people to action. Faith moves people to action. Why? Because faith without works is dead. Right? Faith apart from works is not faith at all. Faith always leaves people to action to works because that's how God works in the universe. Hebrews 11 seven. It was my faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God who warned them about things that had never happened before. 3 (39m 29s): He obeyed God about things that had never happened before. It had never flooded in the earth before it had never rained in the earth before. But God warns Noah that a flood is coming. A flood is coming by his faith. Noah condemned the rest of the world. And he received the righteousness that comes by faith. So the length of the boat, the arc was 300 cubits. A cubit is 18 inches. So the boat was 450 feet long. So it wasn't just this little dinghy, this little raft that he was hoping to navigate the storm with. He built this monstrosity, this, this big old 450 foot boats that was 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 3 (40m 17s): So about the dimension, the dimensions of this property from that wall out there to that wall on the outside of the exterior walls, all the way up is about 450 2 (40m 27s): By 75 feet. Not interesting. 70 measured it out long time ago, and we're just going with it. 3 (40m 34s): 450 feet long, 70 feet wide. It took him roughly a hundred years. Someone say one 20 someone says he was 80 by 100 years 2 (40m 44s): For argument's sake, but 3 (40m 45s): A hundred years. So sometimes we're like obedient to the Lord for a week. And we're like, Lord, where are you? I need you to come through, right? Or we're we're obedience Lord for a month or a year. And Noah was obedient to the Lord for a hundred years doing something that people were ridiculing him for because he was in a wicked land. He was the only righteous man. He was in a wicked land, building a boats where there was no water. How do you get a 450 foot boats to the water? They didn't have cranes. It was ridiculous, right? It was totally ridiculous. But he did it. Philip Yancey wrote faith means trusting in advance. 3 (41m 28s): What will only make sense in reverse? So we read this story where like, he builds the boats, the rains come, he survives right. New life for no one, his family. Right? So it's easy to ex you know, we can read through the whole story in a few minutes, but what about the a hundred years of building and with expectation, believing that God's going to come through that there's really going to be a rainstorm that there's really going to be a flood that really everybody's going to die. Who's not on the boats. Like he had to believe. Long-term, that's how it is. A lot of times, as we raise kids, we're raising kids with a long view in mind. We're like, man, I got 1825 years with these kids. 3 (42m 8s): I got a plug to them. Maybe they're struggling. But man, I got faith for my kids. Right? I got faith that they're going to come through that they're going to continue to serve Jesus. And we do it. Long-term maybe you're in a long-term marriage. And you're like, man, I need faith for my marriage right now. So you just hang in there and you just keep praying and just keep loving your spouse. You keep serving your spouse. And in the long run, we'll be, we'll see the beauty of what God wants to accomplish in those relationships. But we got to exercise. Some faith. Faith means stressing in advance. What will only make sense in reverse, right? We don't get the benefit of the reverse. Number four. Faith causes people to trust God with the unknown. 3 (42m 50s): Let's talk about Abraham. It was my faith that Abraham obeyed, when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. So he's leaving his home as a 75 year old dude with a 65 year old wife going somewhere that the Lord would show him. But he would live there as a man of faith. And even when he reached the land, God promised him. He lived there by faith, where he was like a foreigner living in tense. And so did Isaac and Jacob who inherited the same promise. 3 (43m 34s): Faith causes people to trust God with the unknown Elisabeth. Elliot said, Shrew, faith goes into operation. When there are no answers, have any unknowns in your life. We've all got unknown. It's like, Lord, am I going to wake up in the morning? We believe by faith that we're gonna wake up in the morning. Right? Unknown. No, my going to get, am I going to get my next breath by so much of life is about faith in the unknown. Oh, there it is. Good. Okay. Came. Oh, there it is again. Okay, good. Good. We're not guaranteed that next breath. 3 (44m 14s): God gives us the next breath where he doesn't. But by faith we believe, and by faith we move forward. And when he's ready to give us our last breath and we by faith move forward and into eternal life with him and God's good. And God's faithful. True. Faith goes into operation. There are no answers. Hebrews 11, 10 says Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. Number, number five, faith keeps people focused on heaven. Faith keeps people focused on heaven, Abraham. He didn't care where God called him because that's not his end game. God's anger and game for Abraham was eternity was with Abraham would spend eternity with the Lord. 3 (44m 58s): So tell me where, tell me to go wherever it doesn't matter. I'm here on this earth for a short time. And then I'm with you. So tell me to go wherever it doesn't matter, right? Because the end game is eternity. His focus was eternity. His focus was on what God had for him. Faith keeps people focused on heaven. Abraham's focus was heaven. His faith in God, freed him to live for God in the earth because his main focus was not earthly, but heavenly when our main focus is earth and earthly things, earthly relationships, possessions. When our main focus is the earth, we can't be freed up to do the eternal things. 3 (45m 42s): They haven't the things that God has called us into. So God is always trying to pry our hands off of temporal things, right? He's always trying to pry our hands loose of things that we can't control. Anyway, we can't control most of our life. And so God's trying in his wisdom to get us, to loosen our grip and to trust him so that we can be freed up to do what God has asked us to do. Some are so focused, maybe only focused on earthly things that they are bound up, bound up and afraid to trust God and live with an eternal perspective. If you're bound up and afraid, you're living with a temporal perspective, that's just the reality. 3 (46m 27s): If you're bound up and afraid, you need to shift your focus, allow God to tell you whatever he wants to tell you to move you wherever he wants to move you to direct wherever he wants to direct you because you're living for the King. And ultimately this is just a, this is just a blink 2 (46m 44s): In eternity this time. 3 (46m 46s): It's just a it's it's over in a blink over. We were looking at pictures last night, we were celebrating my son's 29th birthday. And we were looking at pictures and we said, what were we doing? 2 (46m 57s): 29 years ago? And now here we are. 29 years later, all of those kids that we were having are all grown up. It's just been a blink 31 years of marriage, just life just we're in May, 2021. We in 2021, 22 in may, 3 (47m 26s): We could be in 20, 22 already by now. I don't know. It just goes so quick. Verse 11. It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child though. She was barren and was too 2 (47m 37s): Old. Again, 3 (47m 40s): We take a personal inventory of our lives and say, I have barren God. I've never had kids. I'm too old 2 (47m 46s): Barren and too old. 3 (47m 49s): She was, Sarah was 90 years old when she had her first kid 2 (47m 52s): 90, got the promise at 60, 65 years old, 25 years, 3 (47m 58s): She has her first. I think I got the math right on that. Sarah was 90 and Abraham, Abraham was a hundred years old when Isaac was born, she believed that God would keep his promise. She believed that God would keep his promise. And so a whole nation came from this one, man, who was as good as dead And nation was so many people that like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count 2 (48m 26s): Them. Number six, 3 (48m 28s): Faith allows people to believe for the impossible. What has God asked you to believe for what's the impossible that God has asked you to 2 (48m 36s): Believe for? Is he giving 3 (48m 38s): You as he burdened you with a dream for your life, for your family? What has God asked you to believe for the impossible that God has asked you to believe for, for years, decades, over a decade, I've wanted to have a training location, a seminary location here between LA and the Bay. Because if you want to go into seminary, you have to go to LA or the Bay. And that's really your only options inside the state of California. So I've always wanted for more than a decade. Now I've wanted to have a place on the central coast for people to be trained for the ministry. So we've attempted to do things over the years, just kind of dipping our foot and our toes in the water. 3 (49m 20s): So we've had know Bible school on wheels, which is a certificate program where I think you go through 10 classes and you get a certificate. We're still operating those classes. They're great classes. We also just now are launching, it's called a certificate and life development course certificate program through Western seminary. And so it's a four class seminary level without all the homework. I mean, there's still a little bit of homework, but it's not for credit. So it's not all of the extra, you know, book reading and writing papers and that sort of thing. So, but it's a, it's a four class certificate program. But my long-term goal is to offer a full-blown seminary experience here on the central coast. 3 (50m 2s): So my plan is in the fall, God willing, I'm going to start a, another master's program, do a master's in applied biblical leadership with Western seminary, with the end goal of either getting a doctorate in ministry or a PhD so that we can offer Western seminary courses or some kind of seminary courses here for credit. So that I would allow people to get trained, equipped, and released into 2 (50m 28s): The ministry. I haven't shared that with very many people, but that's what I am just 3 (50m 35s): Praying for. And I feel in my soul that God wants to do here on the central coast. You know, I, you know, it's been, he won't leave 2 (50m 42s): Me. It's is 3 (50m 44s): Stuck with me for more than a decade. So I I'm just believing that God's going to open the door for that. What is, what is God speaking to you? And what is guys speaking to 2 (50m 56s): You? Faith 3 (50m 58s): Allows people to believe for the impossible verse 13, as we wrap up here, all these people died, still believing what God had promised them. 2 (51m 9s): They did not receive. What was it 3 (51m 11s): Promise, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. There may be some things that you you've got that got us put within you, that you're a partner with, but you won't see in your lifetime, but future generations will. Future generations will we'll see. And, and, and, and realize those dreams. But you're all in because of your kingdom perspective, they agree that they were foreigners and nomads here on the earth. Obviously, people who say such things are looking forward to a country. They call their own. If they had longed for the country, they came from, they could have gone back, but they were looking for a better place, a heavenly Homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God for. 3 (51m 53s): He has prepared a city for them. Number seven. So we wrap up faith keeps us believing that God is for us. You believe that God has for you. It says here, that is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, because there are people of faith. Faith keeps us believing that God is for us. And that he has a plan for our existence in the earth. What is God's plan for your existence in the earth? 2 (52m 17s): You're 3 (52m 17s): Not just here by accident. Do you believe God has a plan for you? Listen, if you hear this message, you're all of a sudden accountable, you're accountable for your life and how you're going to live your life before God. Your, your, this is truth from God's word that he has a plan for you. So now it's your job. Maybe it's the first time you're hearing this. Now it's your job to figure that out and joyfully and faithfully, walk that out. 2 (52m 46s): God has a plan 3 (52m 47s): For you here in the earth. 2 (52m 49s): Faith gives the best. And first of everything, faith changes the way we live. Faith moves people to action, faith. 3 (53m 2s): There's people to trust God with the unknown faith keeps us focused on having faith allows people to believe for the impossible 2 (53m 13s): And faith keeps 3 (53m 15s): Us believing that God is for us. And that he has a plan for our existence here in the earth. We'll pick it up and Hebrews 11, 17 next week, just to be clear, we're moving our worship center over there, but we're going to be utilizing all of this space. It's a one minute walk from here to there. So we'll still be parking where we park. There's still, there's additional parking over there, but we'll mostly be parking where we park. We'll be dropping off our kids where they get dropped off. Although we'll have a couple of classrooms over there for nursery and for a mother's room and that sort of thing, but mostly it'll be just normal drop off your kids here. You'll walk them in and over there. And we have church and you walk them in and back. 3 (53m 55s): And that's where it goes. I think we're probably going to give this sanctuary to the youth ministry. Someone said, they're going to destroy ours. Our sanctuary, 0 (54m 3s): Well, 3 (54m 5s): We're not here. Big for buildings, right? We're not here for buildings. We're here for kingdom stuff for souls. And if we can add young people soul to the, to the kingdom and get them saved and sanctified and filled with the Holy spirit, then that's what we want to do. So we've got to change that carpenter chairs. I don't care. I just want our people on the central coast or young people reach for the kingdom. So it'll look a little bit different when you come on campus, but mostly we're going to video feed still to the loft on Sunday morning. So if you want to drop your kids off and still be in the loft venue, for those of you who are in the loft, you don't have to go anywhere. You can just stay there, but we encourage you to go check out the space. 3 (54m 47s): So literally it's a one minute walk from here. You just go down to one or two down in the corner. You know, the village grill is right before that, the building was before this something different, that something different sign is still up there. So go check it out. We spent all day along yesterday, demoing the building, taking out walls and all kinds of stuff. And we took seven dump trucks or seven dump trailers full of stuff out of there yesterday. So it's really coming together. So with that, let's go and stand up with that. Let's go invite the worship team. We're going to worship. And then if you're a part of the prayer team and you want to pray for people, make sure it makes sure you're you're available for that as well. And, and then when it's all said and done, just take the time to walk over and see that new space. 3 (55m 31s): It's going to be really worthwhile. Thank you Lord, for what you're doing for who you are. We love you pray that we be people of faith in every area and arena of our lives. We love you and Jesus Jesus name. Amen. Amen. 0 (56m 7s): take our feelings. 0 (57m 46s): you said 1 (1h 5m 24s): Thank you, God. We love you. Jesus. We give you our hearts this morning. Would you bless us throughout this week and remind us that you are faithful Lord, that you are always with us every step of the way. And so we look to you, Jesus, for those leaps of faith, God, would you remind us that you are carrying us, that you cover us under the shadow of your wing. You provide for our needs. God, you give us those mercies that are new for each day. And so thank you for meeting us here this morning. 0 (1h 5m 55s): In this hour, we love 1 (1h 5m 57s): You. Give you a hearts in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Well, happy mother's day. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day. If anyone would like some prayer this morning, we have prayer team. I'd love to pray with you. So feel free to head on forward. Some folks will meet you here. Otherwise say hello to somebody and have a beautiful day. We'll see you next week.

Episode: 029 “Being a Trailblazer: Basketball, HBCUs, and Aggie Pride” Airdate: May 3, 2021 Length: 1:17:32 Guests: Coach Will Jones Coach Will Jones, head basketball coach at North Carolina A&T State University has a story I that I believe will inspire anyone to not easily give up on their pursuits and to trust God above all. Coach Jones reflects and shares about being a basketball player in high school in the Lowcountry of South Carolina to a Division 1 college basketball player at South Carolina State University to his journey in the coaching ranks. He will encourage you in your path with his journey filled with patience and perseverance as he made his way from graduate assistant to assistant coach to head coach. All the while, as he shares, he wanted to be a trailblazer like those legendary Black coaches that came before him. His faith in God's plan for his life anchored him especially during the hard, uncertain times. But the vision is clear. A&T begins a new chapter as another Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to leave the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), a conference exclusively consisting of Black Universities, to play in the Big South Conference against Predominately White Institutions (PWI's). Just like A&T has left its championship mark in the MEAC, he wants to represent HBCUs and make a lasting impression on the Big South. Listen to Coach Jones as he enlightens us on the unique challenges that Black coaches face in the NCAA ranks and what he and other Black coaches are doing to weather that storm. ____________ Phil Allen, Jr. is a Los Angeles-based pastor, social justice activist, filmmaker and author. South Tacoma Assembly of God

Salvation comes as a result of our faith in God. The receiving of salvation should fuel our faith. Salvation allows us to embrace hope. There is an increase in the relationship and fellowship through the acknowledgement of who we are and who we are becoming in Him. Salvation lets us see beyond the natural, and embrace hope. Obedience is the evidence of faith. Obedience will cause us to look for God in our circumstances. Obedience brings faith into our hope. Hebrews 11:1 gives us a description of faith. There are two components of faith: substance and evidence. Substance brings a solution from the supernatural; evidence is seeing something manifest in the natural. Faith works with the will of man and the will of God. The will of Jesus had to submit to the will of God in the Garden of Gethsemane. His obedience to the will of God modeled His faith in God in substance and evidence. Just like Jesus, our will and the will of God should be the same. For us, salvation through Jesus Christ has come on board to allow us to operate in the same manner. In this message, Pastor asked us to reflect on how the Word of God reveals itself in our lives. Faith is in opposition to doubt. It is the tangible sign or proof allowing us to come to a conclusion. What we do and how we conduct ourselves every day will be the evidence or tangible proof that salvation and faith in Jesus is on board.

Pleasing dad is something most of us strive for throughout our lives. No matter how complicated our relationship with our parents might be, something in us desires to please our father. But in Galatians 1, Paul, a leader in the church, addresses this need to win our earthly fathers’ approval over our heavenly Father’s approval.Paul was zealous for the religious traditions of his family. But after an encounter with Jesus, Paul realized there was much more to his faith than what his family passed down. Seeking his family and community’s approval by following their traditions would never give Paul salvation or a right relationship with God. Only faith in Jesus could change Paul’s eternity. That recognition changed the chain of command in Paul’s life. In Galatians 1:10, Paul writes, "Do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No! God is the One I am trying to please. Am I trying to please men? If I wanted to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."Serving God — even when it goes against the traditions of our friends and family — is hard. Jesus knows this better than anyone. Wrestling with His impending crucifixion, Jesus prays,  “... My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39).   Jesus asks God to spare Him the pain that was to come, but ultimately Jesus places His faith in God the Father. At a time when Jesus could have pleased others and made His life less painful by denying God, Jesus’ trust in His Father produced obedience that resulted in our salvation. We, like Jesus, are God’s children. Every day we face the hard choice about where to put our trust. In those moments, we have to stop and ask the same question Paul did: Am I trying to please God or men?Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/yourdailybible)

Our "What I Wish Someone Had Told Me" series continues with special guest Derrick Jenkins. Derrick is celebrating 25 years sober this month, a tremendous accomplishment that he discuss on this episode. Derrick enjoyed a good childhood growing up in Canton with his parents and 6 siblings. He enjoyed sports and music with his family and friends. But in his early teens, Derrick's group of friends pressured him into substance use. Alcohol led to marijuana, and eventually marijuana led to crack cocaine. When Derrick used cocaine for the first time, he was instantly addicted. Extremely conscious about health and fitness, Derrick stayed away from smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol - but he could not stop using cocaine. Eventually, his addiction led to eyesight issues that resulted in 7 eye surgeries. You have to hear Derrick's recovery story. His faith in God kept him alive and opened up doors and opportunities for Derrick to not only survive, but to also thrive in his new sober life. Now, he champions others through recovery as a recovery coach, counselor, motivator, etc. His voice is calming but powerful, and his message is truth. Derrick talks about his early refusal to admit he had a problem. Later on, he rejected the idea that counseling could help him. Overcoming the stigma of counseling was difficult for him, but once he did, he realized counseling can help every person. It provided him with support and also taught him the skills he needed to cope with adversity in life and strengthen his recovery. Derrick's message revolves around the fact that your life is worth fighting for - recovery and sobriety are worth fighting for - because you're worthy of living a happy and healthy life. Don't let your past mistakes determine your current and future worth. The only person who needs to believe you're worthy is YOU - because God already says you are. The World's A Scary Place // Do Not Be Afraid, Part 1

The world can be a scary place – so many things that strike fear in our hearts. And yet over and over again, God says “Do Not be Afraid.” What does that mean?  How does that work?   Spiders and Snakes I don't know about you but as I look around, it seems to me that the world can be a scary place. Take spiders and snakes – I mean, depending on where you live in this world, they are either dangerous or they're not. Here in Australia we are seriously over represented in the world's "top ten" list of most venomous creatures, so when I was growing up as a child I had good reason to be afraid of them. And still today, the idea of a spider crawling into my bed … ! It's one of the scariest thoughts I can come up with. Let me tell you a funny story. One of the most venomous snakes on the planet is the death adder – great name isn't it? When I was in the Army training to be an officer at the Royal Military College Duntroon, we were one day out doing some grenade practice and that meant you had to sit in bunkers and the person who was throwing the grenade would go out and throw their grenade. Now we had New Zealanders as well as Australians at the Royal Military College and in New Zealand there are no venomous animals at all, so when the Kiwis come across the ditch to Australia, they are petrified of our snakes and our spiders. Well one Kiwi, we'll call him Rock – I've got to tell you this death adder story. He went out of the bunker to go and throw his grenade and we had a dead death adder. So we positioned it in the bunker so he had to sit down right next to it when he came in. Well he came in and he sat down and he looked at it and I've got to tell you, his legs were going before his backside was up off the log and he was running out. We can laugh about it now but the world can be a scary place, especially with friends like me. In my defence I was a young man at the time. So this week we are starting a new series on the programme, it's called “Do Not be Afraid”. There is a reason for that – there are lots of people in this world who spend much of their lives living in fear. Sometimes it's because they are living in a war zone – I mean there are plenty of people listening to this programme today who know that only too well. People in the Democratic Republic of Congo for instance, where there is war raging in parts right now – some of those people are sitting in their homes listening to this programme today wondering whether they will see tomorrow or next week or next year. Other times there are different life threatening things that happen. We can have a health scare. The morning I sat down to prepare this message was the morning of the funeral of a friend of mine. Now, he was just a couple of years older than me and he died suddenly of a heart attack. It's easy to be afraid – and it rocks our confidence. And yet other people, they just live lives with a real sense of dread. There is always something there for us to be afraid of or to dread. There is always something lurking out there. For me honestly, if I allowed it, I could be afraid of quite a few things. I mean, I have some things in my life right now that could cause me to experience fear – and that's the thing. It doesn't matter who we are or where we live or … whatever, we all go through times of fear. And that fear can rob us of life itself but time and time and time again, you read in God's Word, these words from God to His people. He says, “Do not be afraid.” And He speaks them right at the time when the people He is talking to have every reason to be afraid. They have got people and circumstances coming against them and conspiring against them and they're experiencing fear and yet God wades in and says, “Do not be afraid.” Now if God doesn't want me to be afraid when I have every reason to be afraid, you know something? I want to have a piece of His brand of confidence. Don't you think? I mean, think about it! What's the point of God saying, “Do not be afraid”, when we have no reason to fear? It's right in the middle of our fear that we need His confidence. I definitely want that – how about you? Well, how can we have that confidence? That's a good question – that's what today's programme is about – that's what this whole four week series is about … ”Do not be afraid.” So I invite you to come on a journey with me. We are going to start that journey with an account of a time when God's chosen people, Israel, had every reason to be afraid. They were in exile – they had been living in the Promised Land for about five hundred years and yet they had struggled with God. They had worshipped idols and other gods and eventually the Lord their God lost His patience. So in around 586BC, the Babylonians, who were the dominant world power of the day, invaded Jerusalem. They destroyed the place – they destroyed the temple, the place where God's presence dwelt and they took this remnant of God's people back to Babylon as slaves. Talk about a crisis of confidence! Think about it – God made all these promises to Abraham and to Isaac and Jacob and then when Israel was enslaved in Egypt, He sent Moses and did amazing miracles and the whole Red Sea thing and the exodus and the manna from heaven … everything that got them to the Promised Land. And when they got there, with Joshua as their leader, they fought battle after battle against nation after nation that was bigger and stronger than Israel itself and yet God was with His chosen people and they took the land that God had promised them. And now … now Babylon wins! God's own temple is destroyed! Where is God? What happened? Are the Babylonian gods stronger than our God? They have a loss of confidence – it's a big thing. I mean we hear people talking about shareholder confidence and consumer confidence and that feeling when you go to sleep at night, you know, you get that falling sensation and you wake up in a panic, grabbing onto the bed. Confidence is the trust that the earth beneath our feet won't move. It's the trust that the stock market won't fall; it's the trust that the plane we are flying in won't fall off the sky; it's the trust that our governments will do the right thing – it's about trusting, whatever. And then, it's like the rug gets pulled out from under your feet and you lose confidence and panic and fear set in. Why? Because we no longer feel safe – we are no longer able to trust in the things that we have always trusted in. That's where Israel was – there was a complete loss of confidence in their God. Now He was punishing them but they couldn't quite see that. It was like they were flying in a plane at thirty two thousand feet above the ground and all of a sudden, all the engines are silent – panic, fear! And fair enough too! So what does God say to them right in the middle of their fear and panic ... what does God have to say? We are going to take a look at that next.   I am Your God So here is Israel in this scary, fearful place. They have in slavery, exiled in Babylon for the best part of three generations – that's a long time – so only a handful of Israel's elders who can even remember Jerusalem in its heyday. So what does God have to say to these people of His who are cowering in fear under the yoke of slavery? If you have got a Bible, grab it and open it up at Isaiah chapter 41, beginning at verse 8 – he says this: But you Israel, My servant Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, My friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth and called from its farthest corner, saying to you, “You are My servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off. Do not fear for I am with you. Do not be afraid for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My victorious right hand. See, the first thing that God does is He reminds them of His promises to Abraham. When Abraham stood in that Promised Land, centuries before, this is what God promised him – just flick back to Genesis chapter 15, verse 18: On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abraham, saying, “To your descendants I give this land; from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates, the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites and the Kadmonites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Rephaim and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Girgashites and the Jebusites. See, God's promise is that God had chosen them; God had chosen Abraham, their ancestor, God had promised this land and God said, “I will do this.” Notice it is all about God! Do not fear, I am with you; I am your God; I will strengthen you. I will help you; I will uphold you with My victorious right hand. The whole thing that God relies on here in talking to His people in their fear and in their despair, is not who they are or how strong they are or how clever they are, or how well they have done because they haven't, they are there being punished. No, He is saying to them, “Look who I am, My promise, I am your God, I am with you,” but how does that help them? Isn't He the God who failed them seventy years earlier? Okay, so He sends them some prophet, Isaiah, to tell them this – BIG DEAL! And that may well be what you are going through right now. You look at your circumstances – they are so fearful! Okay, so God sends you some joker on the radio with a smooth voice who says "Do not be afraid", but how can you put your confidence in that? It was exactly the same problem that the Israelites had. Their circumstances, the Babylonians, looked so much bigger than their God. I mean, you think about it in your head and you know God is bigger than the things that we are confronting but in your heart, it's so hard to believe in your heart – the fear is destroying any confidence that you might have in God. God knew that – that's why He also said this to them: have a listen to this … this is powerful stuff! So let's pick it up in Isaiah chapter 40 – this is the chapter before the one we have been looking at, verse 18. Have a listen to what God says about Himself: To whom then were you likening God or what likeness compare with Him, an idol? A workman casts it and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains. As a gift one chooses mulberry wood – wood that will not rot – then seeks out a skilled artisan to set up an image that will not topple. Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? Hasn't it been told to you from the beginning? Haven't you understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches the heavens out like a curtain and spreads them like a tent to live in; who brings princes to nothing and makes rulers of the earth as nothing. Scarcely are they planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when He blows upon them and they wither and the tempest carries them off like stubble. “To whom then will you compare Me, or who is My equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them by name, because He is great in strength and mighty in power, not one of them is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord and my right is disregarded by my God?” Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint and grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable.” Do you see how powerful this is? God is saying, "Look, I am God. I created the whole shooting match. See those trillions of stars up there – lift up your eyes, have a look, who do you reckon put them there? I know the Babylonians worship them but I created them. They are out there every night because I tell them to march out there. This is Me who is talking to you – not some crummy idol like the stuff that Babylonians worship – I am bigger than your circumstances. It makes absolute sense to put your confidence in Me.' See, God is speaking this stuff into the hearts of His people when they are afraid; when they have no hope and no future, God comes along and says, “Do not be afraid. Not because of who you are; not because of your circumstances, no, do not be afraid because of who I am. I will come to help you; I will fight your battles for you; I will be your God; I will keep My promises to you."   A Part for God to Play The hardest thing I think in overcoming fear in life is actually getting to the point where we have a high level of confidence in God; in who God is, what He has done – His might and His power and His sovereignty. That all sounds great in theory but what about the practice; what about when the rubber hits the road, then what? See, I used to think it was up to me and I guess in part it is, but not completely. That's just as well because you and I, we're human. We can't conjure up confidence; we can't take this theory about who God is and let the theory somehow wipe away the fear because fear is real. Now, I need something more than that; I need something more than promises on paper and fortunately, that's exactly what God had planned too. He didn't want to leave it all up to us – He wants us to actually experience His peace – not our strength – but a "peace" and a "strength" that come from Him and Him alone. Let's pick up the rest of this story in Isaiah chapter 40, beginning at verse 28. This is what it says: Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. Great, there was the theory again! But now, watch for what comes next! Verse 29: He gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Do you see the point? The power and the strength, where do they come from – do you or I conjure them up? No, they come from God. He gives those things to us, why? Even youths will faint and be weary and the young and the strong will fall exhausted, but…..” And here's the ‘but' – the glorious, wondrous, powerful ‘but,' “but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not grow faint." You know what it means to wait? It does not mean to wait with a bad attitude; it does not mean to wait with grumbling in our hearts and on our lips; it doesn't mean to stand there paralysed by fear either. No, it means to wait expectantly; to wait on God with the expectation that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He is going to do. To wait, right in the middle of our fear – boy that's hard – with our emotions on a rollercoaster; with our enemies around us; with our hearts cast down but with an expectation, never the less, that somewhere deep inside, that God is going to act. Who knows – will God give us victory over our enemies today? I don't know! I mean there were more Christians martyred in the twentieth century than in the whole two thousand years before that, combined. We all die sometimes – is He going to heal this cancer or let it take its course? I don't know! But this one thing I do know, that: those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. God is saying, indeed He is commanding us through His Word today, “Do not be afraid” instead, wait on Him. You know, when we are waiting in fear and when we are waiting in pain and when we are waiting and it is uncomfortable and unpleasant, we want to grumble and whinge and complain and blame everyone else and have bad stuff coming out of our mouths and have grumbling in our hearts … isn't that what we want to do? We don't like being uncomfortable; we don't like being afraid, we just want it all to finish – "God what are You doing? Come on, move along, let's get over this." But those who wait….who wait expectantly for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. See, come what may, if I am diagnosed tomorrow with terminal cancer, I still am going to put my confidence in God who has given me a life eternal with Him. Because Jesus said to His disciples when they were afraid…..listen to this, John chapter 14, verse 27: Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I don't give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not let them be afraid. And yet, so far as we know, each of these disciples, other than Judas, went on to do mighty things for God and then … then they died for their faith. So often, we are focused on the here and now but God's plan for my life and for your life is a life eternal. God's perspective is an eternal perspective and that … that my friend is why you and I can put our confidence in Him. When we are afraid ... when we are in this place that is so scary, we can go to His Word and say, "You know what it says – it says here that 'those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength'.” You know, you never feel big; you never feel strong when you are waiting for God. When we are afraid we feel so small – you know, I think God means it to be that way. When we humble ourselves and we just come before God and say, "God, I can't do this. I don't know. I'm afraid; I don't know what to do next. I'm just going to wait on You. I'm just going to wait for You – I don't know what You are going to do – I don't know if You are going to show up, I don't know if You are going to talk, I don't know. I am going to put my faith in You and I am going to wait on You and I know my emotions are going to go up and down. I know it is going to be hard but I'm just going to wait for my God." That's an eternal perspective – that's a God perspective. Jesus had to put His faith in God. Jesus lay all His glory aside and He was there in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before He was crucified – struggling – He was afraid and He was hurting and He just put His trust in God. Do not be afraid. God gives us His peace; that's what this passage from Isaiah says: “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength,” the strength comes from God. The "mounting up with eagles" doesn't come because we flap a lot; it comes because we waited on God. The ‘running and not being weary' comes from God. “Do not be afraid” – take God's peace from Him – go and wait ... just go and wait before Him and let Him pour His love and His peace into your life. It doesn't matter how big or bad or ugly the enemy is. It doesn't matter how fearful we are. It doesn't matter how dire the consequences of this particular situation might be. Why? Because God is the God who created the whole shooting match – every star in the sky, every part of creation -–God created it. God has an eternal perspective and when we wait on Him, He gives us His peace. That's the promise my friend! “Do not be afraid.” Let your confidence rest in God Himself and then, let Him do the rest. Wait on the Lord and you shall renew your strength. Wait on the Lord and you shall mount up with wings like an eagle. That's the promise – it's a God thing!
