Hey guys!I'm back one more time before July wraps-up, and this time I'm back with a guest! She is also popularly dubbed as The Ibk Global on Instagram. She reminisces on building a successful marketing career with juggernauts like Domino's Pizza, Cold Stone Creamery, Pinkberry and Burger King back in Lagos, Nigeria. Also, her decision to uproot her life and chase an MBA dream in the United States, and how she navigates her way through the challenges of business school. From tough academic requirements to adapting to a foreign culture, then financial planning for an MBA, the harsh realities of job interviews, and the importance of creating relationships that matter. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording! With love from Lagos, New York City & Toronto,Tolu & Ibk P.S: I mighty forgot to introduce myself to our new listeners at the beginning of the episode. They discuss the valuable life lessons they learned on and off the ice, proving that hockey is more than just a sport; it's a means of developing lifelong skills and relationships.  The explain how the team's basic values – work hard, support your teammates – help the team define itself, and allowed the players to focus on their behaviors, which they controlled, not their results, which they often didn't. The two also share how they've made hockey a big part of their lives without playing professionally, by leveraging their passion to propel their careers in finance and engineering, respectively. They also discuss the lessons learned from former Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson, and their favorite teachers, Ms. Thompson and Professor Brophy. That these two started out as high school players of Bacon's, and have since become close friends and mentors themselves – their sons are older than Bacon's! – is a testament to the depth of relationships sports can create. About our Host:For info about the book or this podcast please visit our website:http://www.letthemleadbybacon.comhttp://www.johnubacon.comYou can connect with John via these platforms:https://www.facebook.com/johnubaconhttps://twitter.com/Johnubacon

Does an Entrepreneur Need an MBA?

An MBA can lead to a promotion and a bigger salary in the corporate world. But if you run your own business, do you need an MBA? In the two years between my time as a park ranger and launching my own business, I went back to school to get an MBA. Now, nine years later, I look back and consider if an MBA has given me an advantage as an entrepreneur.  Reasons Not to Get an MBA -Student loans can limit your opportunities.  -Time and money spent getting an MBA could instead be used to become an expert in one thing, and being an expert can create more opportunities than higher education.  -Nobody cares if you have an MBA. They care about the results you can create for them. People want to know you have the solution to their problem, not your educational background.  -Experience and exposure as an entrepreneur can be more valuable than education.  -You can learn more from a mentor than from a textbook. -You can learn more specific targeted knowledge from the right conference or course.  Reasons to Get an MBA -Getting an MBA is a long, arduous process. You will build a lot of confidence if you can stick with it and do the hard work it takes to graduate.  -You will become a big picture problem solver, and you can see the entire puzzle of a problem and understand all aspects of a business.  -There are situations where the credibility of an MBA will open doors for you. Having an MBA signals you understand a business before you even enter the room.  All things considered, no, you don't need an MBA to be a successful entrepreneur. Instead, you need to focus on being yourself and becoming an expert in your work. Find the right conferences to attend and groups to be a part of.

Also building upon his family's career background in the ski town hospitality industry of both Jackson Hole and Park City, he is excited for the future of wine ahead to combine his various interests and skills. As a Special Forces Green Beret, Adam hunted Al Qaeda operatives, developed intelligence networks, conducted diplomatic relations, and briefed Ambassadors and Generals on Geopolitical environments. In 2006, Adam earned his B.A. in Security and Intelligence from The Ohio State University. He spent the next eight years deploying to Asia, including Operation Enduring Freedom - The Philippines and Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan. Adam's passion comes from a deep-rooted desire to serve others and save lives. Adam has been profoundly affected over the loss of his teammates, mentors, and close friends to suicide. He currently speaks to students, corporations, and a wide variety of audiences all over the country. He has over 20 years of leadership and managerial experience and is a Business Coach for MBA Students at The Ohio State University. Adam is a graduate of the Ignite Program at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Adam earned his MBA at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business and was selected as the Most Outstanding Student of his 2019 MBA Cohort. Adam lives in Dublin, OH with his wife Tarah and their three children, Noah, Jonah, and Norah. THE PROBLEM 80,000 Warriors were lost to suicide in the last decade. To put this in perspective, during 18 years of combat in Vietnam, 58,209 Warriors lost their lives. WARRIORS OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN: BY THE NUMBERS There are 2.6 million Warriors who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. A 2014 study of 2,150 Warriors revealed some startling statistics regarding Post Traumatic Stress that bring into question earlier estimates regarding the number of Warriors affected by their experiences in the combat zone. It is possible that as many as 75% of the respondents of this study suffer from Post Traumatic Stress. Even if not all respondents do meet the requirements for diagnosis, it is obvious that they are encountering some mental or emotional difficulties after serving in the combat zone and could benefit from opportunities to heal. Unfortunately, most of those who have sought care have not found healing. A recent study by the American Legion found that only 16% of Warriors who were treated at the VA for Post Traumatic Stress with talk-therapy and medication management reported that those methods were clearly beneficial for their health. ‣ Only 16% of Warriors report improvement after undergoing the medication management and talk therapy treatment at the VA. ‣ The VA spends roughly $8,300 per Warrior with PTS, annually. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tango-romeo/message
