Happy Halloween Everybody!! Are you ready to get spook….wait, what? It's not Halloween? Oh good. I knew we had to take a little break from our podcast duties which pushed this episode back, but it didn't feel like it had been that long. Well it's not a big deal anyway. While Invisible Sister has many of the trappings of a good ole' Halloween DCOM, it's not really that big a part of it. It's more about two sisters learning more about one another through costumes, lacrosse, and (most importantly) science!Emma shames her brother's knowledge base and can't get a name right. Lucas lets guests into his mind palace and does a lot of white-knighting.Talking Points: Science In Halloween's Clothing, Ace-liens, Excessive Platitudes, Why CGI?, Genius/Goth, Correctly Aged Cast, The Problems With Perkins, FRO-YO, The Big Easy, Why Is George Here?, Meatballs???, Ingesting Insects for Invisibility (Brought to You By Ginger Fizz), Inconsistent Invisibility, The Fool-Proof Disguise, Spirit Circle, Boy's Bathrooms, Lacrosse Time, Full-On Cheating, Time For a Ticking Clock, High School Labs: The Most High-tech Environment Possible, The Moth Catching Side-quest, A More Complex and Emotional Conflict, Halloween Rears Its Head, Let's Romp the Swamp, Apologies to Nawlins, The Honeypot, Molly Makes a Weird Call, Perkins' Finger Guns, Slow-mo Fro-yo, and Slam Narration

This week on The Literary Life, we bring you our first Summer Short Story episode covering “How Much Land Does a Man Need?” by Leo Tolstoy. To start off the discussion of this short story, Thomas gives us some background to help answer Angelina's question about why this story seems so very different from other Tolstoy works. Angelina shares how to approach this story like a parable. Cindy brings up the question of the difference between ambition and vocation in terms of contentment. On July 15, 2021, we will be celebrating our 100th episode hosting a LIVE Q&A episode in our Patreon group, and you can ask questions in our Facebook group with hashtag #litlife100. The recording will air on July 20th. We are excited to announce our third annual Literary Life Back to School Online Conference! This year's theme is Awakening: The Pursuit of True Education, and our featured guest speaker is James Daniels. The conference will take place on August 4-7, 2021, and you can learn more and register at morningtimeformoms.com. Cindy also has some exciting announcements, including the debut of the new expanded edition of her book Morning Time: A Liturgy of Love, which will be available in early July. AND she is starting a new Charlotte Mason podcast called The New Mason Jar, set to drop on August 5, 2021! Listen to The Literary Life: Commonplace Quotes: It is a mistake, perhaps, to think that, to do one thing well, we must just do and think about that and nothing else all the time. It is our business to know all we can and to spend a part of our lives in increasing our knowledge of Nature and Art, of Literature and Man, of the Past and the Present. That is one way in which we become greater persons, and the more a person is, the better he will do whatever piece of special work falls to his share. Let us have, like Leonardo, a spirit invariably royal and magnanimous. Charlotte Mason Earth's Eternity by John Clare Man, Earth's poor shadow! talks of Earth's decay: But hath it nothing of eternal kin? No majesty that shall not pass away? No soul of greatness springing up within? Thought marks without hoar shadows of sublime, Pictures of power, which if not doomed to win Eternity, stand laughing at old Time For ages: in the grand ancestral line Of things eternal, mounting to divine, I read Magnificence where ages pay Worship like conquered foes to the Apennine, Because they could not conquer. There sits Day Too high for Night to come at–mountains shine, Outpeering Time, too lofty for decay. How Can We Teach Poetry More Effectively?

Poetry plays a key role in literacy learning, but the subject is still easily misunderstood. Teachers must understand the purpose of poetry, why and how we teach it.Poetry requires intentional focus, not just an add-on or a four week unit. Making poetry a part of your weekly or fortnightly routine (K-6) clearly shows students how much you value it. It enables them to develop momentum in their poetry learning and to build their understanding of poetry over time.Carve out a Poetry Workshop (once a week/fortnight):Poet TalkPoetry Read Aloud within the Mini LessonPoetry Reading, Writing, ConferringPoetry SharingTantalising Texts - We need to build a storehouse of tantalising poems to bring to our students. We read and collect;  anthologies, singular treasures heard, quoted, found. Teachific has built an anthology of poems K-2, 3-6.Together - Read Aloud poems, develop a reservoir of class favourites, reread, read together, enjoy together, wonder, explore and notice together. Create a culture of poetry within the class - together.Transformative Teaching - Mini Lessons you can bring to your students through Shared Reading and Shared Writing:Enjoying and responding to the craft of poetryReading poemsReading like a poetPerforming poemsCollecting poemsWriting poetryForms of poetryTrue Tasks and Time - For the bulk of a poetry workshop, students are:K-6 Reading, rereading and responding to poems from anthologies, picture books, their own poetry collectionsReading like a writer and collecting ideas in their writer’s notebookDrafting, revising and editing their poemsCreating art to accompany their poemsIllustrating poems they have heard or readWorking with their anthologies (collected poems)Conferring with the teacherTransformative Tracking - Publications, conferring, collections, observations after mini lessons, student reflections - 'what I was trying to achieve as a poet'.Thinker's Talking - Sharing their poetry, students doing the poets talk, responding to what they recognise fellow poets have achieved, used, and how it has made them feel.Resources mentioned in this episode:TEACHIFIC Teachific anthology of poems K-2 https://www.teachific.com.au/find?page=1&search_type=standard&category_group=20&years[]=1&years[]=2&years[]=3&cats[]=163&cats[]=160&cats[]=199&cats[]=148&cats[]=198Teachific anthology of poems 3-6 https://www.teachific.com.au/find?page=1&search_type=standard&category_group=20&years[]=4&years[]=5&years[]=6&years[]=7&cats[]=163&cats[]=160&cats[]=199&cats[]=148&cats[]=198Teachific anthology of poems 5-8 https://www.teachific.com.au/find?page=1&search_type=standard&category_group=20&years[]=6&years[]=7&years[]=8&years[]=10&cats[]=163&cats[]=160&cats[]=199&cats[]=148&cats[]=198Teachific ‘Poetry Mini Lesson List’  K-2Teachific ‘Poetry Mini Lesson List’  3-6The Magpies, by Denis Glover https://www.teachific.com.au/view/1917/poem-the-magpies-denis-glover--yrs-5BOOKTOPIAPoetry anthologies for childrenThe Man From Snowy River by A. Escaping Continuous Contagion (2) (Audio) David Eells - 11/18/20 A huge lawsuit is in the making against the leftists who are destroying constitutional liberties to bring down the economy.  When I first saw this immediately it came into my thoughts that this will force the leftists to prove that COVID-19 is as dangerous as they have been saying by loosing new strains that are more viral and pushing their va-cci-nes which will just make people sicker and change their DNA.   About 6 days ago I was in my yard and saw a low, lone, chemtrail overhead that was very solid looking.  I asked the Lord if this was a “good” chemtrail, as some are calling them, or a bad chemtrail.  He said it was a bad chemtrial. The next few days I noticed people witnessing of flu like symptoms in themselves or their family and friends in other parts of the country.  Then many chemtrails cris-crossed the sky.  Across the country there is a spike of what is being called COVID 19. This they will use to justify their lockdowns and va-cci-nes, which there will be no end of...    Frances from NM just sent this in.    New Strains Of COVID Could Render Vaccines Completely Useless, And 2 Dangerous New Strains Are Already Spreading   http://endoftheamericandream.com/archives/new-strains-of-covid-could-render-vaccines-completely-useless-and-2-very-dangerous-new-strains-are-already-spreading   by Michael Snyder November 18, 2020 What if all of the assumptions that people are making about this COVID pandemic are completely wrong?  When Pfizer announced that they had developed a successful vaccine for COVID, the world cheered.  And then when Moderna announced that they had developed a successful vaccine for COVID, the world cheered even more.  But COVID has been mutating, and scientists assure us that it will keep mutating.  So what happens if the vaccines that are being developed end up being completely useless against new mutant strains of the virus?  Would that put us all the way back to square one (or even worse)?   To put this problem into perspective, let’s talk about the flu for a moment.  Every year, health authorities come up with a flu vaccine that they think will be effective against the variation or variations of the flu that they believe will be dominant in that particular year.  Most people simply assume that a “flu shot” will provide them with complete protection against “the flu”, but that is actually not true at all.  In some years the match between the flu vaccine and the variations of the flu that are running around is pretty good, and some years that is definitely not the case.  The following comes from the official CDC website… During years when the flu vaccine is not well matched to circulating influenza viruses, it is possible that little or no benefit from flu vaccination may be observed. During years when there is a good match between the flu vaccine and circulating viruses, it is possible to measure substantial benefits from flu vaccination in terms of preventing flu illness and complications. However, even during years when the flu vaccine match is good, the benefits of flu vaccination will vary, depending on various factors like the characteristics of the person being vaccinated, what influenza viruses are circulating that season and even, potentially, which type of flu vaccine was used. At this point, Pfizer and Moderna both seem convinced that their vaccines will be effective against the dominant strain of COVID that is currently sweeping across the globe. But what if a new strain becomes dominant? In Denmark, a new strain of COVID that is being passed to humans from minks was considered to be so dangerous that the government actually announced that they would kill all 17 million minks in the entire nation… The government of Denmark shocked the world a few days ago when it announced it would slaughter as many as 17 million minks in the country, effectively destroying the entire mink fur industry in the country. The officials opted for this radical option because of the novel coronavirus, as the pathogen developed a potentially dangerous mutation inside the captive mink population. Reports from the country said that the mutated coronavirus has already infected at least 12 people. Researchers are worried that the new strain might be so dangerous that it could effectively render the current COVID-19 vaccine candidates useless. A new report now delivers more troublesome news, as some researchers think that the mutated coronavirus strain has pandemic potential. Others, meanwhile, are calling for calm. Thankfully, after a tremendous uproar the Danish government decided not to kill all the minks. But this strain is still spreading, and as the quote above noted, this new strain “could effectively render the current COVID-19 vaccine candidates useless”. In other words, if this Denmark strain becomes dominant it may force the vaccine companies to go back to the drawing board. Meanwhile, we just learned that “a fast-spreading new strain of COVID-19” has popped up in Australia… South Australia is battling a fast-spreading new strain of COVID-19 as it prepares for a six-day lockdown to attempt to contain the virus. A COVID-19 cluster in Adelaide’s north grew to 22 on Wednesday as thousands of people continued to flock to testing stations. The reason why authorities decided to lock down all of South Australia for six days is because this new strain appears to be far more contagious than previous strains… A strain of Covid-19 behind an outbreak in South Australia may be spreading up to five times quicker than normal, officials fear. Concerned health bosses say the incubation period — how long it takes for someone to show symptoms after getting infected — was ‘very very short’. Professor Nicola Spurrier, chief health officer for South Australia, claimed people are becoming contagious within 24 hours of catching the virus. She said the particular strain behind the outbreak had ‘certain characteristics’. If it is true that this new strain spreads five times more rapidly than older strains, it could easily become dominant. And if that happens, the vaccines that have been developed may not be of any use at all. We just don’t know at this point. But what we do know is that COVID will continue to mutate in the months and years ahead, and that could potentially create massive headaches for vaccine developers. As for the vaccines that have already been created, some experts are pointing out that there is so much that is unknown about them. Most people assume that these new vaccines are similar to other vaccines that they have previously taken, but that is definitely not true. These new vaccines are in an entirely new class all by themselves.  They are known as “messenger RNA” (mRNA) vaccines, and they work by hijacking the protein-making machinery in your cells… When Moderna was just finishing its Phase I trial, The Independent wrote about the vaccine and described it this way: “It uses a sequence of genetic RNA material produced in a lab that, when injected into your body, must invade your cells and hijack your cells’ protein-making machinery called ribosomes to produce the viral components that subsequently train your immune system to fight the virus.” “In this case, Moderna’s mRNA-1273 is programmed to make your cells produce the coronavirus’ infamous coronavirus spike protein that gives the virus its crown-like appearance (corona is crown in Latin) for which it is named,” wrote The Independent. I certainly do not want my cells “hijacked”, and nobody has any idea what the long-term effects will look like. And even if you take one of these new vaccines, it could end up doing no good for you at all if a different strain emerges and becomes dominant. Unfortunately, I believe that we have entered an era of global pandemics, and I am convinced that all of this enthusiasm about the vaccines that have been developed is completely misguided. We know that COVID will continue to mutate, but we have no idea at all if the current vaccines will be effective against those future strains or not. If fighting diseases was easy, we would have eradicated the common cold and the flu long ago. But we haven’t, and we won’t be eradicating COVID either. Even now, dangerous new strains of COVID are emerging, and I have a feeling that it is going to be COVID that is going to have the last laugh. Gods people must be sure to live under the blood of the Passover Lamb who was sacrificed to deliver us from the curse of these plagues as in Exodus 12 and Psalm 91.  Warnings against Two things have come to us in dreams in the last few days that will annul this sacrifice so that a person falls under the curse.  They also identify who according to scripture and revelations we have received will be taken down by these plagues.   Forgive or Fall Under Judgment Winnie C. - 11/17/20  (David’s notes in red)   (In this dream Winnie represents the Christians who will escape because of their right relationship to God, men and scripture.). I had a pretty powerful dream last night. I was in a house that I suppose was mine. Several men came in holding rifles (I assume that's what they were, although I do not know much about guns. They were large, long, and black, military style maybe). (We have received dreams that the anarchists of different groups had been supplied military weapons to attack and hold hostage the country.  The enemy is about to come against Christians as spirits or spirits inhabiting these human enemies). They were holding me, and whoever else was there, hostage. I knew they wanted to kill me, but I wasn't afraid. I thought there was a very strong possibility that I would die. (The factious in both the church and state are hateful, unforgiving people, who think they should control the lives of others but as we will see they are brain dead and controlled by demons. Their perpetual unforgiveness  and faithlessness will make them victims of the coming judgments from Babylon/DS.)   I immediately began to forgive any offense I had against anyone that the Lord brought to my attention because I knew I could not enter the kingdom with a root of bitterness or offense of any kind in my heart. I even reached out to someone from my past that hurt me and she was glad to hear from me. (To me she represented my past and how I was let down as a collective. I do not believe it was just about her). (Approaching judgment demands that we forgive all from the heart to escape the tormentor demons power.)   I wasn't afraid to die. I was afraid to die without having fully surrendered all to God, through Jesus, including matters of the heart.    I do not remember what the men were holding us hostage for (a ransom that I don't recall), but as soon as I had forgiven everyone from the heart, the men let us go. They all left one by one and I was grateful to God for His mercy. There is an obvious correlation between forgiveness and being held hostage, even according to the Word (The tormentors. See verses below). (The tormenting demons whether independent or inhabiting an enemy have authority over us and our future unless we forgive from the heart. Mat 18:34-35  And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due.  35  So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.)   By the strength of the Lord, by His Spirit, we are able to let go of everything and hold onto nothing. Our flesh loves to hold onto grudges because of pride and "not wanting to be a doormat," but that isn't the way of the Kingdom. His rebukes and corrections are His mercy and His encouragement to keep going. I thank God that this happened while it was still bright outside. The sun (Son) was shining though our windows and it made me think of.  John 9:4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.     He says He will show us the right way to go, that leads to the way of everlasting! Praise God!   Matthew 6:14‭-‬15. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,  but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  (This unforgiveness of God for those who do not forgive mans they have no protection from judgment.)   Matthew 18:23‭-‬35  “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.   When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.  And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.  (Notice, for the unforgiven, the debt must be payed and his or her curse comes on the whole family.). So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’  And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.  But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii,  and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’  So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’  He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt.  When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place.  Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.  And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’  And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt.  So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”   Matthew 10:28‭-‬31 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Notice the bitterness and unforgiveness of the factions in church and state will make them victims of the tormenting demons in the plagues and curses as we have been given many dreams to show.)   Fear Will Make You a Victim Amber Bristol - 11/17/20  (David’s notes in red)   I dreamed I was driving a car following other cars from UBM.  We came to a house on a hill. Many people pulled to a high gravel parking spot near the house. (A type of God’s house on the hill of Zion. Amber here is being used to warn the larger body of what will make them a victim of the judgments the DS will loose on the country.)   I didn’t like this night, it was dark and windy.  (An ominous atmosphere)  I didn’t want to be trapped behind the other cars.  I wanted to be ready to leave easily. I wanted to park with the front of my car pointed toward the way out. (A fear of being trapped in things to come. Spiritual claustrophobia is a fear of not being able to escape close places.)   Angelica and other people were standing there and warning me where to not park (Angelica meaning an angel).  I think I was told not to park on the grass ("All flesh is as grass” I.e. don't park or rest your human vehicle in the flesh) and avoid a few other spots for safety’s sake (So you don't slide off the hill and lose your position.  When we have meetings at my house on top of a small mountain, I warn people to not park on the grass when the ground is wet because people slide down the side. One man did this and slid down quite a ways before stopping.  Later that man fell away from the Lord through unforgiveness and died in the faction.).   Eventually I got parked and walked around to the back of the house. Several people were seated in lawn chairs lined up toward the street that ran behind the house, other people were wandering around. This was a very straight street, almost like train tracks. (The straight street is not a crooked path, which is good. If a person walks or drives straight they can see whats ahead for a long ways. Getting "off track" is missing the narrow, straight road to take the crooked road.)   It was Halloween and I didn’t want to be outside. (Amber doesnt have the fears spoken of here but she is acting out a warning for the body to not fear the judgments about to come.)  It was dark and windy. (Halloween is suposed to be a scary night when demonic scary things are celebrated and it is a satanic holiday.)   There were no lights on under the porch where we all were gathered. The only light was the dim light coming from the sky. (It is only walking in the light of God’s word that we are safe. 1Jn 1:7-9  but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another (Not faction), and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.  8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (Those with the factious spirit never confess their sins because their demon knows he would lose his house. They always blame others for what they did just like in the political realm.)   Scary figures (I guess in costumes) would travel very quickly down this straight road. The first was an Indian in full headdress. He barred his teeth and showed his knife. (The fierce Indian represents the first owners of this land who became antagonists to the white man. Notice the DS have always tried to turn the left against the white man. This is faction, divide and conquer tactics. This fits the DS faction in our personal experience. The full headdress was worn by great warriors and chiefs. The DS is at war with the American people and consider themselves our leaders or chiefs. The war paint and fierce look is to instill fear in their victims.  Fear of them makes them and their judgments more powerful.)      The attacks from DS and their attempts to destroy the health, economy,  and the food source will be scary.  So this could very well be a warning for us to pray against this.  Fear negates Faith because it is faith in reverse.  Claustrophobia is a spirit of fear of tight places and not being able to escape. (Those who fall into faction, who had faith at one time, then have NO faith for themselves to save them from the coming plagues or other judgments. They cannot be justified by faith because they do not repent. Their own fear will destroy them.  Job 3:25  For the thing which I fear cometh upon me, And that which I am afraid of cometh unto me. Mutations of COVID that are far more viral are spreading and lockdowns are happening to whole countries and this is one of the scary DS attacks which will take down the factions who have no faith but fear.)   The second figure was a black bull. He was angry and acted like he was going to attack us. (I.e. meaning get off the straight road.  This is going astray, which is why it is black for darkness. It is turning against us by getting on a crooked path. The Trump market is a bull market. In one dream Trump was a bull the left was trying to kill but was resurrected by God supernaturally to judge the matadors who speared him. In a bull market, stocks tend to go up in price over a period of time. It means people have hope for the future and are confident to invest in it.  Bull markets are when the economy is growing, unemployment is low and inflation is at bay. When someone says he is "bullish" on a single stock, he simply means he expects it to rise in price.  We do not want it to go astray as many liberals and DS are trying to do. People are fearful and lose confidence in the future and dont invest in it.)   I was going to hide behind some furniture that was stacked near the back wall, when all of a sudden a fierce wind and leaves blew up and scared the black bull back onto the road. We all laughed and boasted about how we were being protected by the wind.  (Wind in scriptures is often the same word as Spirit. The Spirit put the bull back on the straight road to prosperity.  Fear of the bull going astray will only help it to do so.)   I went into the house to get away from the parade of scary figures outside. (Fear of the future binds us up and makes us victims.)   Inside there was a gathering taking place. I believe this was the basement, but it was very brightly lit.  (The basement represents taking a humble attitude towards God’s Word.)  Two pregnant women (who I don’t remember now, but they were one of us) were going to have Michael Hare (meaning "Who is like God") kiss the babies in their bellies (fruit). It was some sort of blessing. (The lips represent words and the babies represent the womens fruit. The Word of God brings forth healthy fruit. In the parable of the sower in Mat 13, the Lord sowed the seed of the Word into the womb of the minds to bring forth His fruit in the people. Sadly 3 out of 4 did not hold to the Word in order to bear His fruit.)   One man was excited and was asking questions.  He had his shirt pulled up exposing his hairy (Esau) stomach. (Esau, who hated his brother through a spirit of faction cannot be blessed. The factions in state and church are violently against their brethren and cannot be blessed without repentance.) He wanted his stomach kissed too. I was embarrassed. I tried to tell him that men didn’t get their stomachs kissed. (Especially by Michael. ... but seriously, in this type, a man's belly can bear no fruit for he has no womb to nourish the seed of the Word. He has only flesh and that cant be blessed.)   One of the two women pointed to a very slightly rounded tummy and said it will be her (the unborn baby named "Sadine" or something like that) first birthday. This was confusing since the baby wasn’t born yet. (I saw a verse many years ago that I thought showed that God counted a childs age from conception not birth.  The Chinese have this belief. Mat 1:20  But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived (The Greek word here is “born") in her is of the Holy Spirit. The baby in the womb is born of the seed.)   I looked around and saw a few men who had one shirt pulled up over their stomach but had another inner shirt covering their skin. (Wanting to bless the flesh that is not seen by others? (If we hide our sins we cannot be blessed. Pro 28:13  He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.  Jas 5:16  Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working. This is why the faction cannot be blessed and healthy and have no blood covering for the passover of the death angel.)   I was trying to get away from this (Esau) man as I was disgusted and embarrassed by his bare belly and determination to get his belly kissed. (Wanting a blessing for the flesh). He had a stack of small coins in his hand. (Salvation from these curses cannot come by mens works.)  They were in a paper communion cup or a condom. I couldn’t see which. (We are commanded to have no communion with the unfruitful works of darkness which cannot bear fruit just like a condom.) I was confused.    I wanted to get away from him so I went into the stairwell and watched from there.   David came into the stairwell and closed the door behind him. I had my head toward the door (to see out) and my feet up the stairs. I was on my stomach. David was getting tangled with me as he tried to go up the stairs. So he helped me turn around and laughed in a nice way as he helped me get on my feet and walk with him up the stairs. (This dream seems to be saying that if we are fearful of the future this will hinder us from going forward and upward into heavenly places in Christ where all our benefits are.)   Biden Voters Lose Their Minds Bill Steenland - 11/22/20  (David’s notes in red)   In my dream a Democrat was telling me about what they have seen at their “parties”. She was very distraught and confused because the people in the Joe Biden “party” were being decapitated by an angel. She was put off that the people were still alive but with no heads. I think it means they have no power to rationalize or think. (As this far left party has factioned against the right wing and Christians and lost their brains so God speaks of the Edomites who factioned against their chosen brother Israel and lost all wisdom. Both David and the Nations conquered them and so it will be. (Jer 49:7-8  Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?  8  Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him…. 10  But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors; and he is not. … 13  For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes. 14  I have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.)    I think it also means these people are going to “lose it” or lose “their heads” when the courts rule in favor of President Trump on the vote cheating they have done. I also can’t help but think it’s a form of reprobation similar to the mark or ultimate judgement. These are the people who have been taking in faction and witchcraft against President Trump, America, and the Christians for four straight years, so I’m not surprised.    It is Time For the Lord to Work Vanessa Weeks - 11/22/20 (David’s notes in red)   In a dream on 11/18/20, I was looking at a picture of President Trump sitting at a table giving a press conference. Fauci was sitting to his left and talking to him. (The position that Jesus put the goats). The background or wall behind them was chaotic with different color wavy lines. (The background of this dream is the chaos to come.).  I remember yellow and green. (Meaning Danger to Life)  I was supposed to color in the white parts, I think. But then I saw another picture where the President was sitting at a white table with Fauci sitting to his left. But in this there were eight clocks on the white wall behind them in two lines of four. (These clocks remind me of clocks you would see many years ago in a newsroom on T.V.)  When I saw this, I knew this is the picture I should choose.    I recieved by faith at random for this dream Psa. 119:126 It is time for the Lord to work; For they have made void thy law.  Clocks in a newsroom are the different time zones of major cities around the world. I believe the Lord is saying it is time for Him to work around the world for they (Fauci and team) have made void His law.    I asked the Lord for a word about this dream and received by faith at random Luke 9:1 And he called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.  The Lord has given us authority over these chaotic works of the enemy and to cure diseases that they are seeding in the world now. Thank you Father that you are in control of this time and working for your elect. In Jesus name we bind the chaotic demons that try to destroy your plan to extend President Trump's reign. And you are the one reigning through him.    The Coupe Against Trump will Fail Garrett Crawford - 11/16/20 (David’s notes in red) I will share a dream I received. I am going to share exactly what I saw and not change or twist anything. Some of the things may not make sense but this is what I saw.  In this dream I saw a coupe against Donald Trump. Although I never saw Donald Trump in the dream. This coupe was building and building, many people in the country were unhappy with him and wanted him overthrown. (As the leftists are now, very vocal anarchists while the silent right are more peaceful.) Then I was taken into an armory on a military base. I saw a mischievous figure with a set of keys. This figure did something that intrigued and shocked me. (I read a while back that the governor of CA was caught using tax funds from the federal government to buy arms for the communist anarchists.) He began to unlock every single door to all the weapons and vehicles. I watched as he unlocked rows of bay doors that stored Apache Helicopters, Humvees and tanks. These were no longer secure and anyone could take them and recklessly use them. Watching this was like watching someone open all the the jail cells in a maximum security prison. You can only imagine what kind of mayhem this would produce... well, this was the same feeling I had in the dream. The next scene I was shown I saw the coupe sweeping the land. But this was not a coup of the deep state, billionaires or elite. It was made up of everyday Americans, mostly white people. I saw soccer moms, teenagers and old men with southern accents driving the stolen tanks, flying helicopters and marching with guns they seized. They were intent on overthrowing what they perceived as a wicked government. (Leftists under a spirit of anarchy trying to overthrow the country and President Trump.) I was taken high above the earth and was shown a battlefield map. I was made to understand it was the United States yet was actually it was a mountain and the area surrounding it. I watched as this coup swept across the map (Leftists are turning the country red because their anarchy is causing fear of a communist overthrow in the people, even Democrats.), with each victory another section of land turned red. (Turning red means pro-Trump.  Trumps popularity is rising as the anarchists act out their rebellion stupidity.).  After a while the whole map was red except a very small area that appeared to be the top of the mountain. (This is why Trump is letting them go crazy, to show the world their evil and turn the whole country against them. Also the top of the mountain, meaning the leadership is spared, possibly by deals cut. They will return in tribulation to crucify the saints. When the proof of the Lefts fixing the ballots comes out almost the whole map will be red.) I was then taken back to ground level and was inside a highly strategic and important military installation. (The military will be their downfall)  It was revealed to me this was the last piece on the chessboard standing in the way of a total and complete victory. I am not sure what was inside, maybe nuclear missiles or something of similar importance. I watched this force of tanks, helicopters and marching soldiers converge on this last and final base. There was excitement and a sense of victory in everyone that was apart of this final wave. I distinctly recall Marilyn Manson, the Satanic rock star yelling up to one of the old men in a helicopter as he flew by. He said "Let me join you! I want to be there when you take down Donald Trump!" But the man yelled back down to him "No! Where have you been these last 4 years?! If you didn't fight with us up until now you are not going to share in our victory!”   The next thing I know I am inside the guard shack of the base. I saw 2 old men inside the guard shack. They were either colonels or generals. (The Generals are a major part of Q, it was them who convinced Trump to run for President. They command a mighty military whose authority stands behind them. They are like the cop who stands for the whole government behind them.  People who do not fear the cop alone fear the government and judicial system that stands behind him.) They were in their 60's or older but they were not weak and frail, they were brave and battle tested. They had no idea of the coup that had surrounded the base and were quite caught off guard when scores of young inexperienced boys in fatigues and military grade rifles starting flooding into the guard shack. It was like watching army ants one by one enter thru the door, but after a few seconds these 2 high ranking officers realized what was happening and they quickly pulled out their sidearms and commanded all these intruders to stop and put their hands up.  I admired their bravery but I thought there is no way these 2 men could stop this invading force that was so heavily armed. (These older Generals command a lot of force who stand behind them.). But to my surprise the boys were greatly intimidated and one by one they all dropped their rifles and threw them in a pile. The soldiers kept flooding thru the door but as each one came into the room they were frightened and threw down their rifles and stood there completely defeated.  ("If God be for you who can be against you?” Pro 28:1  The wicked flee when no man pursueth; But the righteous are bold as a lion.). Israel won overwhelming victories when God put fear in the heart of their enemies. Like all the other scenarios Father keeps giving us, Sennacherib, Jehoshaphat, the Northern Army in Joel 2, the Red Sea, only an act of God brought victory.  He will not share his glory with another. )  I could not believe my eyes, I don't completely understand but I knew when these 2 men stopped the assault on the base by the marching troops the whole coup failed. (The dream I shared with the local brethren was like that.  Trump was almost dead but God resurrected Him stronger than ever.) I sat there in the dream completely amazed, I had been watching every scene unfold in such dramatic fashion, I kind of got caught up in it myself. There was such anticipation that victory (for the coupe) was all but certain but at the last second it was stopped cold.

Several years ago, I named a chapter from a book I was writing, "The Need For a Global Reset" and named a sub-chapter "It's Time For a Tectonic Shift - Of Our Hearts." Little did I know just how soon the opportunities were going to be presented to us globally and just how prescient it was all going to be!.Our world since its genesis, was meant to beautifully function in a system grounded in reciprocity, trade-offs, 2-way streets. We were never meant to take more than we contributed, to all, both human and non-human life. Whatever the source of our current pandemic...whether transmission from animal to human, a laboratory leak or out of control germ warfare, something was bound to get our attention. WE DESPERATELY NEED A GLOBAL RESET - OF OUR HEARTS!"In a world of change, the learners shall inherit the earth, while the learned shall find themselves perfectly suited for a world that no longer exists" - Eric Hoffer"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music" - Friedrich Nietzsche Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/mep/dashboard)

Business Built Freedom

Time For a Business Brainstorm You've decided to start a business, well, let's sit down together and have a business brainstorm. You might have an idea or you might have something that you want to do to change the world. It could be a service or a way to do something differently. Whatever it is, you need to make sure you sit down and note it down, right? How it's going to be a different product to what's already out there. How are you going to make money out of it and how you're going to be reaching your target audience. Read more about generating business ideas: https://dorksdelivered.com.au/blog/347-time-for-a-business-brainstorm How We Brainstorm We have businesses come to us all the time and ask us questions about how they can launch a new product. There was somebody who came to us who wanted to make a website that allowed for you to compare different wedding packages. So I'll give you an example of how that was going to work. You have a bunch of suppliers and then you have a bunch of people that you're advertising the site to. Let's say we're focused on the jewellery part of it. They're looking at engagement rings. So you've got Michael Hill in there, you've got Prouds or whoever it is, and you've got them all in there and they put up all their stock and you put up your stock and everyone puts up all their stuff and that all goes into the website. Then as the end user, you jump on there to look for a ring. The site then says that's available at these three suppliers. You may have already picked up what the problem is here. It looks at these three suppliers and it says we can get it from a Michael Hill cheaper. But the problem is the quality of the ring that you're going to get, even if it looks the same between the three suppliers, may differ. The quality of the diamonds might differ. It's not a black and white business model and a lot of things to do with weddings are not black and white. They're very emotionally subjective. Identifying Issues is So Important I went through the business plan with her and said, this sounds good, but we need to work at how we overcome this. She said, all I want it to be like is a parts comparison website. You go on and you can see this part and this is the OEM manufacturer of that part and this is where you can get it cheaper. I said, that's fine, but, how are we going to do this? Where's the money going to be made here? Because the suppliers would be now having to cut themselves down to making sure that every product looked the same. The florists would have to make sure every product look the same and that makes it a hard ask. It's very difficult to have your business then have to line up with everyone else's and you've commodified the whole business, ideally I guess is what is what the end goal was. Making the whole wedding experience a commodity. But it doesn't always work like that. In this instance, she wanted the end users to get the whole experience for free. So if the end users are getting the experience for free, that means that the suppliers have to be paying to be on this website. If the suppliers are paying to be on the website and be up against all of their competitors, that then means that they need to make sure they're more competitive than else and they have the same stock as everyone else. And it became all too hard to work out where finance can come from. Cost Analysis is Key I'll give you another example. It was a website, well before Airtasker's time. We developed this site which allowed for tradies to jump onto the website and look through jobs and it allowed the people to jump onto the site and then pick out these jobs and say, yup, this is what I want to do. I said, okay, this sounds like a cool model. So we've got two different groups of people that we need to be able to attract for this thing to work. But we also need to have money come in from one of the groups or both of the groups to be able to have the business profitable or through advertising and other marketing chains. We went through and looked at the cost analysis and this one did come out positive. But the amount of capital that was required to allow for the initial burst to really get the word known was outside of the budget. But brainstorming, let us come to that conclusion. Making sure you have a great idea is awesome. But the important thing is you might have an idea but you didn't brainstorm it and didn't deliver it or actually conceptualise it in a way that allowed for it to become a born and delivered. Having an idea is useless until you put pen to paper. Having a dream is one thing. But having it written down into achievable chunks, pop size pieces let's that dream become a reality. If it's to become a reality, sometimes it doesn't need to be a reality, but knowing that you've gone through the maths allows you to get there. Over Engineering I over engineer and over complicate any decision I ever need to make and I am fully aware that I do it but I enjoy the journey and that's okay. I was looking the other day at getting water tanks for the house and when I went through the process and decided, okay, let's get water tanks, only 40,000 litres of stored capacity, I'll need to be able to look at the roof sizes, the rainfall. So I looked at the weather station on the roof and looked at the rainfall that had been delivered over the last 12 months and then looked at the bureau of Meteorology website and saw that it was coming through and my ratings were accurate but 10% higher. Either there was an issue with my device or I just get more rainfall in the area that I'm in. Either way I use all those numbers and worked out I could get 150,000 litres of water falling on my roof every year. The 40,000 litre capacity would mean that'd be more than enough to fill it. But you then look at when you had the really rainy months and then the really dry mounts and for me it meant that with the usage of 260,000 litres a year, it wouldn't really save much of my bill at all. In fact, the total buyback period was 10 years. The lesson here is water tanks are a bad investment for me and it could be different if you go to larger roof area or a different weather pattern or more rain or whatever the situation is. That is what brainstorming a business is all about. Try Agile Development You could already be in business, you just want to get this new idea and see if this is going to work. Working on it and seeing how long you think it's going to take and using a process, that's called agile development is really handy to do that. Looking at bite sized chunks, what's the smallest thing that you have to do to get this idea to market? A great example with Uber would be they want or wanted autonomous vehicles, but they couldn't afford the tech behind getting that created. So instead they had an app that they made that used people and their phones to look at the acceleration, braking speeds, and all the other nifty data about every corner and every street around the globe where Uber is available. They can then use that information to allow for the cars that they're going to be creating autonomous vehicles to drive, slow down and speed up and mimic that of human behaviour. This is fantastic because roads where there's black spots and people that are just falling off for no reason and having issues can now be seen with data and decisions be made about the exact way a vehicle can drive in those conditions and in that area. It's really cool stuff, but they couldn't have started to develop an autonomous vehicle without first developing a smaller app, a smaller structure to then build upon from that. So those same elements need to be applied when you're looking to be building a business, creating a business, changing a product, inventing a product, introducing a product or doing anything and everything around your business. The Final Word Remember, having a dream is the first step and that's the most important one. Having that aspiration and drive to dream and dream big. The next step is writing it down on paper, brainstorming all the positives, the negatives, doing a SWOT analysis, making sure you're able to see how this is going to fit. Who is your ideal person that's going to be buying this? Who's the avatar that owns this product or employs you guys for this service? When you know all that information and then you can go through and deep data, analyse everything and all the things go onto census, pull out any information you can find on census to see if you're creating a product that applies to the masses. Who are the masses that the product applies for? Who are your competitors? Does it exist? Is there any government grants out there that are going to save you a bit of coin and help you develop this product? Is it revolutionary enough that this product is going to be able to make it to the news? And if it is, how long is it going to be until someone is going to steal your idea and change it all around? And everyone is scared of that. No one wants someone to steal their idea! I hope you've enjoyed this stay good.

TIME FOR A CHANGE 1 APRIL 2019 Everything blends together eventually. You can call it entropy, erosion, degredation, there's a millions words through out time trying to explain decay. Maybe that's where we went wrong. Do we need to explain it? Can we just accept it? My fallback position when I get intellectualy lazy is "this is beyond human language." That's an obvious cop out. I bring this up because I have two distinct memories of where this song was written - WAIT - they are one in the same! My timeline is off.  Phew!  I'm only still as crazy as when I woke up this morning.  The year was 1988. I had taken a year off from school to ingest large amounts of psychedelic drugs and then returned.  I went to and lived at the University Of Maryland College Park, Cumberland Hall - a co-ed building. The previous year, 1987, was a great year for rock and roll. I spent the summer living and working (ish) in Ocean City, MD. That's also the last time I was arrested. Music-wise,  for the under(ish) ground, the Mats had released PLEASE TO MEET ME. For mainstream bros and hos GnR's APPETITE FOR DESTRCUCTION was making everyone want to try heroin. For the collegiate types U2 had THE JOSHUA TREE and REM had DOCUMENT. The good music bled into '88 and provided a youthful guitar heavy soundtrack to my life. Public Enemy and NWA were about to pop. I played in a band in Bawmer - Kona, the next in a long line of people who refused to play my fucking songs. So I would go to school during the week and come home on the weekends to play fucking cover songs to drunks. It was a way to keep my chops sharp. I can't stress this enough. It was a constant struggle to get anyone to play my songs. They referred to them as "originals" like they were some odd alien lifeform beyond the mere talents of idiot Marylanders. My reasoning was always "somebody had to write these fucking songs we're covering - they didn't just appear!" But the poeple around me who played gyuitars were always "yeah but they're songwriters. We're just people from Baltimore." Baltimore I love you but sometimes you really suck.  So not having the resources to actually play all these fucking songs I was writing I categorized them in my own little library code - the Davey Decimal System. That's a lot of backstory. I wrote "Time For a Change" when my best friend Made Hood was moving to Bali to study ethnomusicology. I was also moving on from my freshman year at college. It was a reset moment. Made was NOT someone who discouraged my songwriting. We actually wrote together. Two of our compositions eventually made it - part of them anyway - to THE BIG OPERA. He wrote the "slide on by" chorus in "The Orphan" and we came up with the riff to "How Do You Like That" after smoking around an ounce of weed.  This song, obviously, works well as an opener. So whenever I needed a first song in an opera I used this'n. It's not plot specific so you can use it anywhere - any setting, any time period. The only detail is "kazoo." It just so happenned that this song found a home in 1993. It was roughly written around this time, me being a young man who didn't know anything yet but was confident enough to try to make poeple learm his songs. Musically this was recorded at The Shed in rural Bawmer County with Paul Kelley and Wil Berry, aka "Porky." Pork was the first guy EVER who was into playing my songs as the reason for a band. I'm forever grateful. Dig - by this time I was in my mid twenties. In my mind I had lost around a decade trying to convince people that we were worthy to write. It got easier for people coming up after me. There was no stigma to creativity for them. So I wrote this during Kona and a little interim band called Pritty Hary played it and then it sat in the 1993 folder for 20 years. This arrangement is pretty much the same as when it was written and demoed on my little TASCAM 4 track.

“I’ve always had encouragers in my life. Mainly it was coaches. And when I was a knucklehead, there were people that would keep me on track.  And then belief...belief that you can do what people don’t think you can do..”   I speak a lot of the virtues of just asking, regardless of what it is you are seeking. I asked Scott MacGregor if he would include me in his incredible anthology, “Standing O”, and he said yes, which led me to meeting today’s incredible podcast guest, Robert Hamilton Owens. Rob has been proving to himself and others that there almost no limits to what you can accomplish, regardless of age, as long as you put your mind to it.   “My kid one day says “You’re pretty old at 50…” and I said “WHAT?”! I thought “You know what, I think I’ll make a comeback, and put these kids at the finish line!”  And so I did an Ironman at 50, and I found out I liked it and thought it was really fun. So I started doing it every year after that!”   This past year, at the age of 65, Rob completed the World Marathon, running 7 marathons on 7 continents on successive days, and hearing his story of just getting through the first day on Antarctica will leave you truly amazed. But my friends, that only scratches the surface! Rob has been competing in the Ironman Triathlon for years, was a USAF Pararescueman, which is harder to join than the Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Green Berets etc. As he says, “We’re the ones who get sent in to rescue the other special ops servicemen!”   “Did you get your win today?” Every day you ought to have a win, and program a win. One less cigarette, one less calorie, one less anger issue. Habits develop habits and wins give confidence for more wins. It's those little steps every day to say no to something or say yes to something. I get people every day who message me and say they got a win today. “I am gaining confidence because that which used to be impossible is happening.”   It was challenging to squeeze so much accomplishment into one episode, along with tons of advice on how to be mentally and physically prepared for all obstacles, but you’ll be able to get so much out of this, give it a listen! Soon you’ll be competing in your own World Marathon Challenge, you’ll see! Some Topics we talk about in this episode: Introduction - 2:00 Encouragers in Robert's Life- 4:11 Growing Up Average -  6:00 Becoming a Lifeguard - 11:08 Joining The Military - 15:40 Air Force Pararescue Courageous Acts - 18:11 Ready to Run/ Pivoting to Extreme Competition - 22:20 Time For a Comeback - 24:00 Killing Time with Incredible Occupations - 25:37 Mental Toughness - 31: 20 Did You get Your Win Today - 33:30 Being Polite Goes A long Way - 35:20 777 - 36:40 The Whole Thing Was Insane! - 43:48 They Give You 8 Hours - 48:23 What You’re going Through is not Unique to You - 49:30 Write It Down - 52:06 Hit Your Mark - 54:00   How to get involved Be sure to connect with me on Social Media @MarkMoyerCoach and go to my website, www.markmoyer.com to get access to the tips and strategies that my coaching clients get directly. Is there something fundamentally different about contemporary capitalism than the system that Adam Smith identified, Karl Marx critiqued, and John Maynard Keynes sought to reform? If so, is there a unique underlying logic to what is frequently called Neo-Liberalism (aka post-Reagan/Thatcher capitalism)? Co-hosts Eric Newman and LARB Economics and Finance editor Michelle Chihara speak with Political Economist Martijn Konings about his ambitious new book, Capital and Time: For a New Critique of Neo-Liberal Reason, which posits that, yes, the current global order is distinct in ways that impacts every aspect of our lives. This raises two essential issues: one, on the economic and political front, how can we hope to reform (let alone challenge) Neo-Liberalism if we don't have a solid theoretical understanding of how it operates in our daily lives; two, on the philosophical front, given how all-encompoassing this system is in our materialist society, what does it say about how we experience "reality," in particular time. As Martin takes us through the changes that led to the rise of Neo-Liberal logic, he reveals the web we are entangled in - and, to paraphrase one of Martijn's predecessors, an accurate interpretation of the world is a necessary first step to changing it. Also, Brian Phillips, author of Impossible Owls, drops by to recommend Rebecca West's beautiful, heart-wrenching 1956 novel The Fountain Overflows.

Today I was joined by Martijn Konings from Australia where he is Associate Professor of Political Economy at the University of Sydney. We had a conversation on his most recent book Capital and Time: For a New Critique of Neoliberal Reason (Stanford University Press, 2018). Its main contribution is to offer an original point of view on the issue of speculation. Critics of capitalist finance tend to focus on its speculative character. Our financial markets, they lament, encourage irresponsible bets on the future that reflect no real underlying value. Why is it, then, that opportunities for speculative investment continue to proliferate in the wake of major economic crises? To make sense of this, Capital and Time offers an understanding of economy as a process whereby patterns of order emerge out of the interaction of speculative investments. Speculation, he argues, is an essential intrinsic feature of capitalism and not just a negative spillover or a collateral behavior. The book also provides an original view on the role of the State. Progressive critics have assumed that the state occupies a neutral, external position from which it can step in to constrain speculative behaviors. On the contrary, Konings argues, the state has always been deeply implicated in the speculative dynamics of economic life. Through these insights, he offers a new interpretation of both the economic problems that emerged during the 1970s and the way that neoliberalism responded to them. Neoliberalism’s strength derives from its intuition that there is no position that transcends the secular logic of risk, and from its insistence that individuals actively engage that logic. The book concludes that the current critique of speculation is misleading and incapable of recognizing how American capitalism has come to embrace speculation and has thus been able to generate new kinds of order and governance. This is a very interesting book, written in an accessible way despite the complexity of the topic. Andrea Bernardi is Senior Lecturer in Employment and Organization Studies at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. He holds a doctorate in Organization Theory from the University of Milan, Bicocca. Today's interview takes us to the fine state of Indiana, where director/producer/writer Mark Racop and the MagicHouse Productions team is based.A full production house with a studio facility, MagicHouse Productions is readying an exciting new science fiction movie, Starship II. The film features an extraordinary amount of special effects elements, and returns many fan favorites from the first Starship film (titled Rock N Roll Starship). For the indie film world, Mark Racop and MagicHouse Productions represents an intelligent approach to developing films and a production company. Mark has spearheaded a methodical path that has built a solid foundation for current and future projects, one that draws upon previous projects and has established an in-house production infrastructure. This approach enables growth in each progressive project, something demonstrated strongly in Starship II with its arsenal of special effects and increased production value. The buzz has been building for Starship II at conventions across the country, and is well on the way to becoming a growing indie movie franchise. Working with an array of talented individuals in Indiana such as Jeff Ello (the mastermind behind the CGI) and Chuck Budreau (sound and music wizard who is also with Indy Film News, a networking and resource site for Indiana Filmmakers), Mark has worked to establish the nucleus of an outstanding independent movie team.Mark Racop is a filmmaker to watch, and MagicHouse Productions is definitely on the indie movie map. Watch out for Starship II in the very near future, and hop on board a great new indie movie series!-by Stephen Zimmer, for Indie Movie Masters, September 6, 2009 SZ: What is your background in terms of filmmaking/production? MR: The filmmaking bug bit me at an early age. My father John remembers that I was interested in making movies even at the age of two, always asking, "How do they DO that?" Dad could only answer, "Trick photography." So while other children were reading short stories, I was busy reading–check that–studying Stephen Whitfield’s "The Making of Star Trek." My filmmaking life was changed permanently when "Star Wars: A New Hope" was released when I was twelve-years-old. I knew from the first scene of that movie that I HAD to make movies. I voraciously read everything I could about movie making. As a huge1966 Batman fan, it was no surprise to my friends that I decided to make Batman the focus of my movies while learning my craft. I collected a rag tag group of misfits from Logansport High School–and I'm quick to add myself to the list of rag tag misfits–to make my first movie in 1980, a 60 minute short film. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing when we started, but we figured things out pretty quickly. Shot on Super 8 movie film, and edited by hand with a Kmart splicer, it truly was a labor of love. It lacked big time, but as a first film, it was rather ambitious–there were several fight scenes, and the movie was made at many locations throughout Logansport, including the vault of the First National Bank. Logansport Mayor Jone Wilson even played a cameo in the film. The movie was rough, but well-received, and won some awards in high school. Bolstered by the completion of my first effort, the following summer I made a second Batman film, a 30 minute short. The titles, fight scenes, and editing were much more sophisticated, and I was learning from my mistakes. Mayor Jone Wilson again made herself available for a cameo. And again, I received some awards. There was little doubt that I would be going to college, and there was even less doubt that filmmaking would be the major. Majoring in telecommunications with a film emphasis at Ball State, I worked on several short films for classes, and networked with students that shared my passion for filmmaking. It didn’t take long for students to figure out that I was very serious about making movies. I was the only one that owned my own equipment. Even though I was ahead of my class, I still had a lot to learn. Before diving into professional filmmaking I knew I needed to learn more about lighting, sound, editing, and overall pacing. My third and final Batman film was entered in the David Letterman Scholarship Contest at Ball State, and won a $3,500 award. Logansport Mayor John Davis played a cameo this time. This film was certainly different than my previous two. Acting, sound effects, and lighting improved tremendously. I built sets for the first time, which provided for better camera angles. And the ultimate prop was added–the Batmobile. Built by five seventeen-year-olds, we transformed a 1974 Monte Carlo into the world-famous Batmobile and used it in my very first car chase. The David Letterman Scholarship award opened a lot of doors. It gave me credibility to deal with people in Hollywood as well as local investors. Without the scholarship, I don't think I would have made it on the set of my "big break," a terrible action/terrorist movie called "Terror Squad," made in Kokomo, Indiana, in1986. The final film was horrible, but I learned so much from being on a professional set. As the head production assistant, I learned the ins and outs of just every single department. I helped the camera and grip departments lug equipment, helped stuntmen with prepping cars for stunts, built a storefront for an explosion, landed product placement for clothing for the movie’s star, Chuck Connors, and I ferried film from the airport to the editor. I learned about special effects makeup, safety requirements for explosions and bullet hits, and how the same shots can be accomplished with different camera techniques–and how to choose the best one. I was invited to Hollywood by some of the crew from "Terror Squad," so my friend Jeff Johnson and I departed in a 1976 Dodge Colt with stars in our eyes. 41 hours later, we arrived in the usually sunny state to find that we had somehow brought snow with us. Yep, that’s right--for the first time in ten years, Los Angeles experienced snow! I spent time on several movie sets and at camera stores, and talked with professionals in the business to learn what it really takes to make it in the business. I also learned that I didn’t want to live in LA. It just wasn’t right for me. SZ: When was MagicHouse Productions formed, and what was your mission with the company when it began? MR: I formed MagicHouse Productions in 1987 and raised money to shoot my first professional movie, the ultra-low budget spoof, "Rock N Roll Starship." The up-front budget was $5,000, and the final cost of the film was $25,000. Dark Star and Hardware Wars were major inspirations as we put the movie together. The movie featured cheesy sets, cheesy dialogue, and cheesy acting–but it was all part of the plan. SZ: As independent production companies often need to pay the bills while developing a feature film project, what kind of production work do you engage in outside of your film endeavors? MR: I shoot documentaries, commercials, promotional videos, music videos, and even legal depositions to keep the lights on. SZ: Give us a little history leading up to the production of Starship II, in terms of when the first film was produced, the response to it, and when you made a decision to do a sequel (and when you began pre-production on it). MR: "Rock n Roll Starship" has played well to science fiction audiences across the Mid-west. I am truly amazed at our fan following. While we never received national distribution, we have self-distributed over 1,500 copies on tape and DVD, from Georgia to Minneapolis.I am my toughest critic, and I am really tough on the film, but it is nice to see a crowd of 400 people rolling in the aisles with laughter. It helps remind me that it was worth all of the hard work. While we were shooting Starship 1, we joked about the possibility of a sequel, and the ideas that could be incorporated into it. While everyone else went to sleep, I was writing down hundreds of tiny notes on scrap paper, napkins, placemats--anything I could get my hands on. People everywhere demanded the sequel. The beautiful Leslie Culton is one of our biggest fans. It was really weird. She met us at a con, quoting dialogue from Starship! And then all of the planets aligned to allow us to make the sequel. I lost my job as a manager of a movie theater--and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Chuck Budreau and I took those hundreds of scrap notes and used them as an outline to create the script for "Starship II." We finished the first draft in three weeks, and did a script readthrough at the 1998 Inconjunction science fiction convention. Actors that had moved to New York and Ohio moved back to Indiana. At a chance meeting in a movie theater in Lafayette, watching the end credits of "Phantom Menace," I found our special effects team. SZ: For those that may not have seen the first Starship film, catch us up to speed on events pertaining to the beginning of the story in Starship II, as well as a little about the plot of the new movie. MR: Because "Starship II" involves time travel, it is both a sequel and a prequel--making it a sprequel. Bob, Doug, and Jorge are well-known throughout the galaxy as the ones that blew up the Ramses Colony. In a freak accident, they accidentally go back in time to right before the blew up the colony. They now have the opportunity to stop themselves from blowing up the colony, and clearing their names...but you know how changing things in the past in a time travel has a way of screwing things up in the future, right? Bob, Doug, and Jorge discover that they have to go back in time to stop themselves from stopping themselves, or the entire universe will be taken over by robots! SZ: What cast members returned from the first film for the 2nd? Who are some of the key new additions? MR: Rob Hinkle, Michael Allen Williams, and Logan Michaels reprise their original roles of Bob, Doug, and Jorge. Christopher Tracy returns for a cameo as the evil golden android Zake, and Robert Hubbard reprises his role as Leiutenant Ed. Scream queen Leslie Culton joins the cast as the female lead, Captain Jane Wey, and we were fortunate enough to land John Astin (Gomez from The Addams Family, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes 2) as Professor Peabody. Babylon 5 alumni Jason Carter and the late Richard Biggs play Commander Deckins and Sergeant Franklin. And to finish off the cast, we hired Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica) to play cloned news reporters John Alpha and John Beta.SZ: Highlight a few key members of your production group involved withStarship II. MR: Three people made a significant difference from the first film to the second--Jeff Ello, director of photography and also the post production special effects supervisor; Greg Fauvergue, set designer and builder; and key grip Eric Ridge, who provided camera booms, dolly track, and other great toys for me to play with.Jeff ElloGreg FauvergueEric RidgeSZ: What lessons did you learn out of the process of the first film that you have applied to help improve the process of making the 2nd? MR: I am always learning from my successes and failures, and I knew that we had to overcome the shortcomings from the first film. We shot the first movie on film, and the cost was astronomical for negative and developing and transferring to video. The sets were built from white beaded styrofoam. We built the lights from foamcore and hung them from the rafters with twine. Even minor setups sometimes took an hour. We did the special effects on the Amiga Videotoaster. The sequel had to have better sets. It had to have exteriors, and it had to have a much larger cast. We shot on miniDV with Canon XL1s and GL1s. We had professional lighting. The sets were made from plywood. Camera setups took minutes instead of hours. "Starship 2" was a radical step up from the original film, featuring a much more sophisticated script, great sets, great special effects, and most importantly, some great actors from Hollywood. The up-front budget for Starship II was $50,000, and the final budget is coming in around $100,000. SZ: How has having a studio facility helped the process in Starship II? What has it enabled that would have otherwise been too surmounting to attempt otherwise? MR: We bought the 8,300 square foot building a few years after we wrapped Starship II, but the studio has changed our filmmaking forever. We have shot five movies, two shorts, and several commercials at our facilities. It has allowed us to build sets and leave them standing much longer than borrowed warehouses. I hate to shoot in interior locations any more because the studio is so much more controllable. From electrical to makeup to office space and our kitchenette, everything is right here.SZ: Your team is tackling an extraordinary amount of effect shots for a film, whether independent or not. Tell us about the number of FX shots estimated in Starship II and some of the challenges you have faced in this area of the production. MR: Ugh! Yes, Starship II has an exceptional number of effects, that's for sure! At last count, there are over 800 visual effects shots. I made the mistake of allowing the FX guys on set. They got me so excited that we added 100 visual effect shots that weren't in the script! Raising the money to make the movie was a snap. Finding competent special effects artists that can generate usable material to assist Jeff Ello has been nearly impossible. With the exception of Staffon Norling and Ian Strandberg, he has had to scrap or completely redo almost every single effect that was delivered to him.SZ: Do you have an estimate as to when Starship II will be finished? MR: Jeff Ello has passed the most difficult portions of the effects work, so we expect completion "around the end of the year." In the meantime, I have worked on five more movies, and one that I co-produced, A Time For the Heart, was premiered at the Imax theater in Indianapolis this past spring to a sell out crowd. I am also in preproduction on three more films, so there is never a dull moment around here.SZ: When finished, what kind of path are you looking to take Starship II on?(festival circuits? Distribution goals? Etc.) MR: A successful film producer in Hollywood happens to be the cousin of my primary investor, and we expect that he will be able to point us in the right direction when he sees the completed movie. We are planning a limited theatrical run, and hoping for Sci Fi Channel or Lions Gate to pick us up. Festivals and science fiction conventions are definitely part of the future for Starship II, I'm sure.SZ: Are there plans already for a Starship III? MR: Absolutely! Starship II ends with a cliffhanger, so we are compelled to make a Starship III to wrap up the mystery. The script is halfway completed. And Jeff Ello has said that he didn't spend the past several years of his life making special effects for just one movie. With 90% of the effects work already done, the next movie will go much faster in post this time!SZ: Give us some links for folks to use to find out more and connect with MagicHouse Productions and Starship II online. MR: You can find Starship II online at: www.starship2.com, and MagicHouse Productions at www.magich.com. (Starship II Trailer)
