In this episode, I'm speaking with Ori Hofmekler, a guest who's very special to me because I've been following his work for over 20 years! I read his book—The Warrior Diet—when I was just 16 years old! Our discussion in this podcast centers on Ori's second book, The Seven Principles of Stress, and his practical views on hormesis, fasting, heavy metals, plant-based eating, and antioxidant supplements—we even go into some of the biochemistry of stress and why it's so beneficial. This episode was originally released in March 2018
How to Lose Weight and Belly Fat Fast. Intermittent fasting (or I.F.) is the most popular weight loss program today. How can you use it to drop a few pounds quickly and get the body of your dreams? Let's answer the most important question here: is it possible for the human body to endure long hours of fasting on a daily basis? TIMESTAMPS Who created intermittent fasting? 1:15 Misconceptions about intermittent fasting 2:24 How can you split your day or week into an eating period and a fasting period? 3:31 What can you achieve with intermittent fasting? 6:39 Other health benefits besides getting the perfect body 7:09 Who shouldn't try this eating pattern 7:43 How to make it more effective 8:10 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/... SUMMARY -It was popularized by the American writer Upton Sinclair in the 1900s. Sinclair practiced juice cleansing and fasting at the same time. -Intermittent fasting is not a diet plan but an eating pattern. With I.F., you don't starve but still have to eat and drink, but it should be time-restricted. It's not dangerous for you because it doesn't leave you with no food at all for long periods of time. -You can try out one of the patterns: the 16:8 pattern, the 5:2 pattern, “Eat Stop Eat", Alternate day fasting, and The Warrior Diet. -Over the course of time, your body will eventually overcome the side effects. In the fasting period, your body will get the energy from burning fat. The longer you fast, the more fat is burned in the process. -It can prevent type 2 diabetes and promote insulin resistance. It is good for the heart. It may prevent cancer. It improves brain function. -Children and teens, people with diabetes, low blood pressure, underweight, pregnant, breastfeeding, or people trying to conceive should consult a doctor before trying it out. -You should also remember that you can't lose weight through intermittent fasting alone. It is also safe to exercise while fasting , but it takes time to adjust to it. Sacrifices must be made: saying goodbye to your favorite greasy foods or not eating from time to time. The warrior diet originated in 2001/2002 and has merit as an approach somewhere between 18:6 and OMAD but no absolute fasting is required. This lifestyle approach has a goal of strength, vitality and body composition, inspired by early cultures like nomads, hunter-gatherers, Greeks and Romans. www.JPWOWPrograms.com/wow-podcast

I have the privilege and joy to speak to amazing human beings on this podcast and all of the people who generously share their time to be guests touch me in a profound way with their life's missions and journey. One particular guest made me reframe everything I thought I knew about achievement and endurance and the WHY behind doing what we do matters. Her passion and purpose and deep humility simply blew me away. Fiona Oakes is an elite marathon runner and a carer of over 500 animals at the Sanctuary she founded in 1996 - Towerhill Stables Animal Sanctuary. She has competed in over 100 marathons and finished in the top 20 in two of the world's Major Marathon series (Berlin and London), along with winning the Main Start and placing top 20 in the Great North Run. Fiona has been vegan for almost her entire life and in 2012 she became the first vegan woman to complete the grueling Marathon de Sables - a race she has completed twice more since - and in 2013 won the North Pole Marathon and it's 'sister' race the Antarctic Ice Marathon. She now holds four Guinness recognised World Records in endurance events including being the fastest woman to run a Marathon on every Continent. Her successes are even more impressive when one learns she lost a kneecap as a teenager, causing her to experience constant pain when running. She does all this to promote an ethical vegan lifestyle and to raise awareness of her Sanctuary. Fiona is also the subject of a documentary made by prominent film maker - Keegan Kuhn (other notable documentaries in his portfolio include Cowspiracy and What the Health). Fiona personally cares for, on a daily basis, the animals she protects in her Sanctuary. Her entire life is dedicated to the promotion of veganism in a positive, proactive and peaceful way and she is living proof of it's sustainability, longevity and viability for both mental and physical wellbeing. Fiona Oakes life is one dedicated to service and this conversation has changed my outlook on life in many ways and I believe it may do this for you, too. In this discussion with Fiona Oakes, you'll discover: -How veganism chose Fiona; a supportive mother, and a mentor...04:00 -Growing up as a vegan child in a world of naysayers and doubters...10:15 -Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary; home to 500 rescue animals...18:15 -Fiona's love of animals is in her soul; it's always been there...22:20 -A running career fueled by sheer determination to promote veganism...28:00 -Fiona's toughest challenge so far...35:15 -Her take on the difference between vegan and plant-based...37:50 -She hopes the pandemic teaches us all that health is real wealth...43:15 -The Warrior Diet; Fiona's one meal a day...44:00 -2 decades of elite running without any running injuries is a true testament to the viability of a vegan lifestyle...48:35 -Toes crushed by horse hooves and bones protruding at the world's toughest footrace...52:00 -She believes her cavalier ignorance is her greatest strength; the North Pole marathon...57:30 -She advocates for not overthinking; deny anxiety the chance to win...1:00:10 -If you train hard, you'll race hard...1:03:20 -Fiona's goals for the future...1:04:00 -The practices which have benefited and supported Fiona over the years...1:07:40 Resources https://www.fionaoakesfoundation.co.uk/ (Fiona's website) https://www.instagram.com/oakes.fiona/?hl=en (Fiona's Instagram) https://www.facebook.com/fionaoakes (Fiona's Facebook) https://twitter.com/marathonfiend (Fiona's Twitter)
in this episode, I review Ori Hofmekler's life changing book, The Warrior Diet, which introduced the world to the wisdom of eating one big meal a day. This book rival's Jane Jacob's book "Death and Life of American Cities" for the way in which it completely revolutionized dieting, health, and wellness. Like Jane Jacobs, Hofmekler does not have all of the "credentials" in the field that he changed. When he wrote this book, our the dieting world was plagued by conventional wisdom: Fat bad, Carbs good; eat six meals a day... The list goes on. This approach led to obesity, type 2 diabetes, premature, and way too many man boobs. I like Ori because he doesn't get totally caught up in the modern keto versus non keto polemics. Instead, he recognizes the wisdom of fats, carbs, and in proteins, seamlessly harmonizing the wisdom of each camp. He uses timing of eating as a way to harmonize when and how you eat food. His version of fasting, at least as I understand it, does not mean totally avoiding food during the fasting stage. Instead, he falls it "undereating." During the "undereating" fast, he allows certain berries, nuts, and light proteins while avoiding highly refined carbs. He calls this phase "undereating" allowing the body detoxify, rejuvenate, and heal. During this phase, the body is ready to work, be alert, and do the activities that give us life. Our sympathetic nervous system is active during the day and he therefore, discourages excessive eating, because it activates the rest and recuperation stage, our parasympathetic nervous system. During the evening, he encourages one big meal, allowing you to eat what you want, whether it's carbs, fats, or protein. Eat away and calories be damned! He explains why this works so well. Our body is sensitive to nutrients, allowing us to eat and use the nutrition from the food that we eat. it also corresponds to our parasympathetic nervous system being activated as our bodies slow down after our day's work. During this phase, we eat, socialize and get ready to rest for our next day of getting things done, living our life's purpose. So it's not just just "one meal a day." It is so much more, evolutionary biology, ancient history, nutrition, exercise, mental clarity, and spirituality. This book promised a lot and totally delivered. It's magnum opus, of fasting and human health. Like US Grant, I have major mancrush on Ori Hofmekler. Read it, and you'll be on your way a leaner, clear, and stronger you!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

We recently celebrated the 77th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, paving the way for the defeat of Facism and liberating Germany for subsequent Euro Hipsters. I recently watched a documentary called "Normandy: Surviving D-Day". It is free on YouTube. Great documentary! Very polished and substantive, but that's not the reason I liked it so much. While not the focus of the documentary, it did discuss the impact of the huge breakfast that the troops had before the invasion consisting of bacon, eggs, toast and other heavy breakfast foods. Allied planners thought a hearty breakfast would boost morale and help the young men be ready to defeat Nazi's. In this episode, I discuss why that was such a bad idea and how that big breakfast nearly cost the Allies dearly on D-Day. I also cover a majorly cool Jewish guy named Hal Baumgarten, a tough guy who sought revenge against Nazi's and we discuss what he ate before D-Day. We also discuss another Jewish tough guy, Ori Hofmekler, author of the Warrior Diet, one of the first books advocating one meal a day. Let's just say Hal chose a different path. Whoa this was a fun one to do. Check this episode out and send me feedback at rocknecast@gmail.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

15 years ago Scott’s dad was 55 when he got prostate cancer. Scott was 31.and 40 pounds overweight., a couple years later Scott’s mom got cancer in her uterus. “They both had to go through chemo and have surgery to remove the remainder of cancer”. If that is not enough there is history in my family. Scott’s paternal grandfather passed away from bone cancer at age 62. My uncle (by marriage) passed away from cancer at age 60 and my dad's 2 best friends also caught cancer and passed away. It was pretty clear to see that the common denominator was not genetics, but lifestyle choices such as the air, the stress, the lack of exercise and of course diet. At age 31 I started to change my diet drastically. I was a vegetarian/pescatarian for 10 years and 'almost vegan' for almost a year. Life is a process of stress adaptation. Living organisms adapt to the conditions of their environment and those of natural selection. Being able to adapt to stress has been one of the main driving forces of our success as a species. We can eat a wide variety of foods, we can live in many different landscapes and we can become more resilient to these harsh conditions Unfortunately, the modern world doesn't condition us the same way it used to, as there's a massive evolutionary time lag between our primal bodies and the abundance we're living in "The stress that can kill you can also heal you", said Ori Hofmekler the author of The Warrior Diet and many other books Ori Hofmekler intermittent fasting was one of the first IF practices in the modern health industry I'm super excited to have Ori on the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast with Siim Land We're going to talk about What made Ori write The Warrior Diet The 7 Principles of Stress How the fitness industry is slowly killing people The most powerful hormonal switches of your body What are the biological mechanisms of stress adaptation How to take advantage of stress rather than falling victim to stress What are stress activated foods And much more To support this podcast, then I'd appreciate if you could leave us a review on iTunes and follow me on social media. Here are the links to the podcast on all platforms Link to the Video Podcast on YouTube Link to the Audio Podcast on iTunes and Stitcher Download mp3 P.S. The main idea of this podcast is that stress in small amounts has incredible health benefits. Ori said that nutritional stress is one of the most powerful triggers for longevity and sexual vitality. Ketosis is one of the cornerstones for this. I highly recommend you to check out the KETO // IF program that combines the ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. Edit: Apparently the first upload's audio got wonky about 20 minutes in. This issue has now been fixed! Hey gang! We have a GREAT interview for you today. We go into keto, low-carb, paleo, fasting, diabetes, you name it! Marty is an engineer whose interest in nutrition was spawned out of necessity trying to better manage his wife's Type 1 diabetes as well as his own family history of type 2 diabetes and obesity. In early 2015 he started blogging at OptimisingNutrition.com. He tries to provide clarity around many of the confusing and conflicting issues in nutrition, often using a quantitative approach. While his blog posts can sometimes go deep on a topic, he has also worked to develop a shortlist of optimal foods to suit different goals by balancing the sometimes-competing parameters of nutrient density, insulin load and energy density. His most recent project is the Nutrient Optimiser which consolidates his thinking into an automated system that reviews a person's current diet to provide a shortlist of recommended foods to provide the nutrients they are not getting enough of while supporting their goals, whether they be diabetes control, weight loss, bodybuilding or athletic performance. This first, fully in English recorded Power-Quest.cc-Podcast will not only give you a valuable training session in a nowadays essential language. English teacher and Peak-Athlete Stefan Kawalla spent 3 days of his Summer holidays 2011 in Peak-Country. He went far beyond the Warrior-Diet- and training-systems of his coach Jürgen Reis. Like shown on Jürgen's DVD Peak-Country, he trained with coach Jürgen Reis and Lukas Fäßler. But how could he sustain on A-days, covering 5 ½ hours of pure strength training (excluding warmup, active recovery and prolonged setbreaks)? And what about a consecutive B-day afterwards, including, by Stefan's wishes, a trip on the mountain-bike, as well as a mountain-run AND a hard weight-training session? Why is he the “Lord of the Rings”? All the answers and many new ideas about training to success, the Warrior Diet, Team Spirit and more await you in the newest podcast. On top: a special bonus given by Jürgen Reis, which can also make your training camp dreams coming true! And to make you even more curious: Stefan mastered the walk on the “Karren-Mountain”, 512 extremely steep vertical meters above Dornbirn, in only 45 Minutes ... right after that recording!
