Cult members. Fanatics. Selfish. Evil. All words that have been used to describe climate activists in the mainstream media. Just Stop Oil have made many headlines since 2022, be it by stopping traffic or throwing powder on Stonehenge in their token orange shade. Last month, five members were sent to prison with the longest sentences ever given for peaceful protest in the UK. But what does the group actually want? If it weren't for the name, Just Stop Oil's aims would be largely absent from press reports, which focus on the public nuisance caused by the group rather than the climate change message behind it. Are the horror stories of blockaded ambulances all to be believed, or is the media misrepresenting the group? If so, why? Why do the public apparently hate them so much? And why hasn't this stopped them? We're joined by Just Stop Oil spokesperson Adrian Johnson and climate journalist Diyora Shadijanova. Plus, your round-up of the headlines through a Media Storm lens: exposés of NHS strike 'plots', the reasons for inaccuracies coming out of Gaza, an Islamophobic Daily Mail front page, and... dogs?  As a take home message, we also speak to Emma Webber, mother of Nottingham attacks victim Barnaby Webber, about victims' consent in true crime and her reaction to the riots that followed the Southport stabbings. That's why our business worked, and cementing that was the trust that we had and we built over the years. And of course we ended up becoming very good friends - Adrian Johnson [25:34]On the way Germany handled business ventures after the wall came down: I think what has worked very well in Germany is that sort of the social democratic structure, so there was not this massive transfer - as many east germans feared - that the wealthy Germans would come in and take all the wealth and we'd end up with a load of very rich people and a load of very poor people. - Adrian Johnson [36:43]The problem is France didn't have any real role models, successful entrepreneurs. There's no Bill Gates, there's no Steve Jobs or Elon Musk. - Adrian Johnson [49:07]Entrepreneurship can create, not can, but does create wealth not just for the entrepreneurs that are successful but for the entire economy and employment - Syd Finkelstein [57:57]There's still a lot of innovating to be done around how to more effectively use technology to help kids learn. And maybe it's not just in the content delivery but its the process of; how do you actually teach, how do people learn, and can they learn more effectively. - Adrian Johnson [62:11]Stay Connected: Syd FinkelsteinWebsite: http://thesydcast.comLinkedIn: Sydney FinkelsteinTwitter: @sydfinkelsteinFacebook: The SydcastInstagram: The SydcastAdrian Johnson:Website: adrianjohnson.comBlog: Adrian JohnsonINSEAD: Adrian JohnsonTwitter: @acvjohnsonSubscribe to our podcast + download each episode on Stitcher, iTunes, and Spotify. The most revered science fiction, fantasy and comic book storytellers of all time were featured in their hallowed pages: Moebius, Michael Moorcock, Jim Starlin, Wendy Pini, Boris Vallejo, Luis Royo, Jon J. Muth, Richard Corben, Jo Duffy, Enki Bilal, Marie Severin, Jeffrey Catherine Jones, H.R. Giger, Simon Bisley, Pepe Moreno, Harlan Ellison, the Hildebrandt Brothers and many, many more.In the conversation, Dwight and Swain give their first impressions of the magazines, namecheck their favorite artists from that era, and of course, discuss the 1981 ‘Heavy Metal’ movie as well as a one-time rumored David Fincher/James Cameron produced sequel. The hosts of Sidebar Forever are of the opinion that Epic Illustrated and Heavy Metal closed the gap between amazing book cover paintings and amazing comic book art. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ was among several blockbuster films scheduled for release in early 2020 that ended up delayed due to low theater attendance. Over the last few weeks, its parent studio Warner Brothers announced that not only would it be releasing ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ on Christmas Day via theaters and HBO Max, but it would do the same thing with its entire slate of 2021 releases. So starting on December 25th, you can see movies like ‘The Matrix 4’, ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ in your local cinema as well as from the comfort of your own home. This struck us as a real game changer for the moviegoing experience and worthy of discussion. The recent HBO series 'Lovecraft Country' is a hit, and as a result, there has been renewed interest in the works of the horror writer H.P. Lovecraft from whom it takes its name. However, Lovecraft was a notorious racist and xenophobe and the show doesn't shy away from acknowledging his personal legacy of hate and ignorance, while at the same time, celebrating his contribution to the genre of horror. In other words, they don't cancel him.But that doesn't happen for everyone. Celebrities such as Bill Cosby, Louis CK, Kevin Spacey, Roseanne Barr and actor Chris D'Elia have all been cancelled for gross, ugly and in some cases, criminal behavior. Even the microcosms of the comic book industry and the visual arts have not been unscathed as several known figures within them have been cancelled due to sexual impropriety and harassment. On this episode, we ask a few questions: Has 'cancel culture' put power in the hands of fans, and honestly, do we like canceling people? Why are some celebrities persona non grata after cancelation (Michael Vick) while others never get called out in the first place (Cardi B)?And ultimately, do we as a society stand to lose out on great art in the future because we can't separate the art from the artist? As always, thanks for tuning in!   — Don't forget to subscribe and follow Sidebar Forever online wherever you get your podcasts! —  SIDEBAR FOREVER ©2020 Dwight Clark, Swain Hunt and Adrian Johnson

Hearne ISD is located in Robertson County, TX just north of Texas A&M University. The district is 95.5 economically disadvantaged and faces unique challenges due to its rural location. We call this episode 'Suited and Booted', the best and worst superhero costumes as judged by us. All in good fun, of course. The three of us chop it up about costume designs dating back to the golden age of the 1930s and 1940s and bring it up to modern day. We cover some trends, shout out some cool shit, call out some design faux pas, as well as some plain old design missteps. We also touch on how the box office success of comic book movies has affected how characters are portrayed on the comic book page.  Thanks for listening and if you aren't subscribing to the show, please do so wherever you get your podcasts. SIDEBAR FOREVER ©2020 Dwight Clark, Swain Hunt and Adrian Johnson

However, there is a very dark undercurrent to these glorious heroes that is discovered by a rogue band of normal humans to bring down these 'supes' -- 'The Boys'.We discuss 'The Boys' as a product of a post-'Watchmen' take on superheroes, how the characters are very much like your workplace and the many 'Oh S**t!' moments that the series delivers.
