Patrick Clancy took the stand for the prosecution in his own children's murder trial and called Lindsay a wonderful, loving mother. Her friends said the same thing. Her coworkers said the same thing. Every single prosecution witness who actually knew Lindsay personally testified to her character, which meant the defense never had to call a character witness of its own. That's the strange shape of a fourteen-day, seventy-witness case built on a fact nobody disputes. The defense told this jury before opening statements that Lindsay killed her three children. The only question left is whether she was criminally responsible. Dr. Paul Zeizel, the forensic psychologist who has met with her more than sixty times, testified a male voice ordered her to kill the children and herself, and that she had no appreciation for the wrongfulness of it. Prosecutors challenged him hard on cross, pointing out that the only time she ever described hearing that voice was when she talked about January 24th specifically. Her hospital records list her as "critically ill, postpartum psychosis." A hospital psychiatrist who saw her days later called her "calm and cooperative." Meanwhile, a piece of internet mythology about a rope tied to her bedroom door has spread far past what the record actually says. Patrick found the door locked when he got home and testified that was the moment he knew something was wrong. The prosecution's own rebuttal psychiatrist, Dr. Avram Mack, testified Lindsay told him she never locked it at all. The exercise bands investigators found were sitting in the basement next to a laptop, not anywhere near that door. Eric Faddis breaks down what a prosecution proves when even its own witnesses keep defending the woman on trial. Links & Legal Footer: Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Ascetical Homilies of St. Isaac the Syrian - Homily XX, Part II

There is a sentence here from St. Isaac that overturns almost everything we are inclined to think about asceticism: You suppose these things were ordained simply to oblige you to labor. We imagine the vigil primarily as something difficult. Sleep is surrendered. The body is constrained. Psalms are prayed while the world sleeps. Nature protests and the monk remains standing before God. Looked at from the outside, it appears to be an extraordinary act of discipline. But Isaac tells us that if this is all we see, we have not yet understood the vigil. The question is not how much a man can endure for God. The question is what begins to happen within the heart of a man who desires God enough to seek Him in the night. Something is born there. This is why Isaac speaks so fiercely about the following day. The tragedy would not simply be that we failed in some ascetical rule. The tragedy would be that we received something precious and then lived carelessly enough to lose it. Seeking the One Who Has Already Come to Us The night vigil is born from desire. The monk rises because Someone is there. This is what distinguishes Christian asceticism from mere religious exertion. We are not trying to force our way toward an absent God. We are responding to the God who has already drawn near, already called us, already awakened desire within us. The Beloved has come seeking us. And eventually the heart begins seeking Him. There comes a moment in the spiritual life when prayer is no longer adequately described as obligation. The language of duty becomes too small. A man discovers within himself a hunger for silence because silence allows him to hear more clearly. He desires solitude because solitude removes the thousand competing claims upon his attention. He rises in the night because there are hours when the world has become quiet enough for the heart to recognize what it has always desired. Isaac knows this experience. This is why he speaks of Scripture as well. Reading is not merely preparation for prayer or the acquisition of religious knowledge. Scripture “sows” something within the soul. It gathers the scattered mind. It irrigates prayer. It plants the remembrance of God. It makes the understanding subtle enough to perceive things that previously escaped it. Scripture, silence, prayer, vigil—all begin converging upon the one thing necessary. Christ Himself. And once the heart begins to taste this, the whole ordering of life must change. The Day Must Become the Guardian of the Night Here Isaac becomes extraordinarily demanding. What sense is there, he asks, in sowing throughout the night only to scatter the seed during the day? We stand before God in darkness, struggling to gather the mind. Perhaps after a long while the thoughts settle. Something softens. The Name descends more deeply. Scripture opens itself in a way that cannot easily be explained. A stillness appears that we could never manufacture. Then morning comes. And we throw ourselves back into dispersion. Conversation. Curiosity. News. Opinions. Tasks that did not need to be done. Encounters that did not need to occur. Words that did not need to be spoken. The endless grazing of the mind among things. Isaac's question is devastatingly simple: Why would you do this? Why labor through the night to gather what you willingly scatter during the day? This reveals something essential about the monastic heart. Vigil cannot be isolated from the rest of life. There cannot be one life before God and another life afterward. Isaac says that we must place “no wall of separation” between the night and the day. That phrase is astonishing. The stillness of the night is meant to flow into the day. The remembrance of God cultivated in darkness must become the hidden atmosphere in which we move beneath the light of the sun. The silence of the cell must follow us. The Name must remain near. Our encounters, our speech, our work, even the manner in which we allow ourselves to think must begin to be governed by one question: Will this help me remain with the One whom I have found? This is not narrowness. It is love. Love Makes a Man Careful When something becomes precious to us, we become careful around it. This perhaps explains Isaac's asceticism better than almost anything else. The Fathers guard the senses because something precious has been entrusted to the heart. They guard speech because words can disturb what silence has gathered. They flee unnecessary encounters because the mind can quickly become populated by images, arguments, memories, anxieties, and judgments. They restrain curiosity because the heart cannot gaze simultaneously in every direction and remain simple before God. From outside, such a life may appear severe. From within, it is tenderness. A man in love does not experience every renunciation as deprivation. Some things simply become less interesting because something infinitely more beautiful has appeared. This is why the ascetical life is so counterintuitive. We ordinarily construct our days around what must be accomplished and then attempt to fit prayer somewhere within them. Isaac reverses the order. Order the day around what must not be lost. What if the most important thing that happened today occurred while the world was sleeping? What if the deepest work was not something we accomplished but the quiet gathering of the heart before God? What if the purpose of tomorrow were, in part, simply not to lose it? Then discernment changes. We begin asking not merely whether something is sinful, permissible, useful, interesting, or productive. We begin asking whether it preserves the heart's capacity for God. This is a much more demanding question. “You Would Have Embraced Jesus' Bosom” And then Isaac says something almost unbearably beautiful. Had the monk allowed his daytime life to correspond to the meditation of the night, had he placed no division between them, Isaac says that “in a short time you would have embraced Jesus' bosom.” Here the entire meaning of vigil is unveiled. Not achievement. Not spiritual heroism. Not mastery over sleep. The bosom of Jesus. Communion. Intimacy. Rest in the Beloved. Everything else exists for this. We constrain ourselves because we desire freedom from everything that prevents love. We become silent because we desire to hear. We remain awake because we desire to see. We read because we desire the mind of Christ. We guard ourselves because we have discovered something worth guarding. Even the night itself becomes sacramental in this sense. The darkness strips things of their urgency. The machinery of the world slows. The identities we carry during the day become less important. There is less to perform and less to defend. There is simply the creature before the Creator. The beloved before the Beloved. And the Name. Lord Jesus Christ. The New Life Begins in the Night Isaac finally speaks of those who desire “knowledge of the new life.” That is what vigil opens before us. A new life. Not merely a more disciplined version of the old one. Perhaps this is why the call to stillness can become stronger rather than weaker as the spiritual life deepens. The field of vision narrows. Things once regarded as indispensable reveal themselves as secondary. Activities that once seemed important begin to feel strangely weightless. Even good works must find their proper place. Not because love has diminished. Because desire has become concentrated. One thing is necessary. The night teaches this with a clarity the day rarely permits. And so perhaps Isaac's teaching on vigil reaches far beyond the question of how many hours we sleep. He is teaching us how to construct an entire life around the remembrance of God. Receive the night as gift. Read until the mind is gathered. Call upon the Name. Stand before God when nothing seems to be happening. Remain. And when something begins to awaken within you—some tenderness, some compunction, some clarity, some quiet awareness of the One who has been waiting for you—do not rush away from it. Guard it. Carry it into the morning. Let your speech become quieter because of it. Let your choices become simpler. Let unnecessary things fall away. Let the day itself become an extension of the vigil. For the purpose of the vigil was never simply that we should remain awake. It was that we should awaken. And having awakened, that we should refuse to return to sleep. The Fathers went into the night because they had begun to glimpse the astonishing truth hidden beneath all asceticism: God is worth seeking. God is worth waiting for. God is worth arranging an entire life around. And once the heart has begun to discover Him in the silence, wisdom consists largely in learning not to lose during the day what Love has given us in the night. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:21:49 Ambrose Little: It's supposed to make your head hurt.

"Husband and wife, they were both of noble and wealthy families in Nicomedia. Adrian was the governor of the Praetorium and a pagan, and Natalia was a secret Christian. They were both young, and had lived in wedlock for thirteen months in all before their martyrdom. When the wicked Emperor Maximian visited Nicomedia, he ordered that the Christians be seized and put to torture. There were twenty-three Christians hidden in a cave near the city. Someone handed them over to the authorities and they were cruelly flogged with leather whips and staves, and thrown into prison. They were then taken from prison and brought before the Praetor for their names to be noted. Adrian looked a these people, tortured but unbowed, peaceful and meek, and he put them under oath to say what they hoped for from their God, that they should undergo such tortures. They spoke to him of the blessedness of the righteous in the Kingdom of God. Hearing this, and again looking at these people, Adrian suddenly turned to the scribe and said: 'Write my name along with those of these saints; I also am a Christian.' When the Emperor heard of this, he asked him: 'Have you lost your mind?' Adrian replied: 'I haven't lost it, but found it!' Hearing this, Natalia rejoiced greatly, and, when Adrian sat chained with the others in prison, came and ministered to them all. When they flogged her husband and put him to various tortures, she encouraged him to endure to the end. After long torture and imprisonment, the Emperor ordered that they be taken to the prison anvil, for their arms and legs to be broken with hammers. This was done and Adrian, along with the twenty-three others, breathed his last under the vicious tortures. Natalia took their relics to Constantinople and there buried them. After several days, Adrian appeared to her, bathed in light and beauty and calling her to come to God, and she peacefully gave her soul into her Lord's hands." (Prologue)

Rachel felt a distance she could never explain from day one. One explosive fight revealed the truth: her husband was struggling with an addiction to painkillers and had been hiding it from her since the day they married.  What followed were years of chaos, a husband who disappeared into his addiction, and four children she raised almost entirely alone. When she was two weeks postpartum, he left to go through withdrawal in a hotel. She cried herself to sleep every night. She felt like she was living with a zombie, surviving one day at a time with no direction and no hope left. Then she walked into a class and decided this narrative was hers to rewrite. Today Rachel wakes up next to her best friend. Her husband is sober and present both emotionally and physically. Every evening he draws her into their quiet ritual of tea and books. On their eighth anniversary, he said he felt like they were newlyweds, and the vulnerability and connection between them told her he meant every word. If emotional distance has been a quiet presence in your marriage, Rachel's story will give you something to hold onto. Hope. Prosecutors handed a Duval County jury a chart on August 21 mapping every month of contact between Mario Fernandez and Henry Tenon across 2022. It starts at 26 communications in January, peaks at 37 in February, the month Jared Bridegan was ambushed in front of his toddler, and lands on zero by August. A 27-minute phone call the day after police published photos of the suspect truck sits inside that slide, and so does a factory reset that erased Fernandez's device six months after the killing. The state told jurors the reset phone never carried another Tenon message. The other half of the day happened without the jury. At 9:30 that morning, Judge London Kite stopped the trial because Jared's widow, Kirsten Bridegan, refused to surrender her own phone for extraction by Shanna Gardner's defense. The subpoena reaches her messages with Gardner's minor children, who are on the witness lists, along with a witness known in court papers as E.F. and the Justice for Jared social accounts. Kite ordered Kirsten to explain why she shouldn't be held in contempt; an appellate court froze everything by late afternoon. The victim's widow and the man accused of arranging his death spent the same day fighting over the same kind of evidence, with very different results. There's more the jury didn't see. Prosecutors auditioned a jailhouse witness who claims Fernandez called the killing his own idea, a claim the defense labeled unworthy of belief and the judge has yet to rule on. The defense also scored real points in open court, because the analyst who built the chart agreed gaps implicate no one, and $10,000 in checks between the men carried memo lines about landscaping and roof work. Fernandez says he is innocent of every allegation. The verdict may come down to how this jury reads all that silence.Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On the afternoon of July 5th, 2012, New Springville schoolteacher Simeonette Mapes-Crupi was found stabbed to death inside her own Staten Island home, just two days before what would have been her fifth wedding anniversary. Her husband, fellow teacher Jonathan Crupi, told police he'd come home to find the house ransacked. On the surface, it looked like a burglary gone wrong, but the deeper investigators looked, the more the "robbery" theory started to fall apart. Grab the dinner meal planner: Try the Dinner Meal Planner When life gets loud, your marriage can quietly become the thing you assume will be okay while you handle everything else. Kids. Homeschool. Work. Ministry. Health. Appointments. Dinner. Schedules. But what if staying connected to your husband didn't require another elaborate date night or a huge relationship overhaul? In this episode, I'm sharing one simple weekly rhythm Chad and I have been using during one of the hardest and busiest seasons of our marriage: a weekly marriage meeting. We started protecting this time during my breast cancer treatments, not because our marriage was falling apart, but because we knew we needed to be proactive about staying connected and on the same team. Every Saturday morning, before our kids get up, we grab our coffee and walk through a simple process that helps us communicate, deal with things before they build up, pray and make decisions for our family together, and actually know what's happening in the week ahead. In this episode, you'll learn: How to protect one non-negotiable time each week to connect with your husband Why we start every marriage meeting with five specific appreciations The simple 1–10 question that opens the door for honest marriage communication How we create space to talk through conflict, needs, parenting, and what's happening in our family Why syncing calendars can prevent resentment and reduce the mental load you're carrying How simple home systems have helped us work as a team during an incredibly hard season I'll also share one unexpected change that's come from these meetings: after almost 10 years of me cooking most of our dinners, Chad has cooked more dinners in the last two months than he probably did in the previous decade combined.

Skip the banter: 00:07:51When 19-year-old Cal Poly freshman Kristin Smart disappeared after an off-campus party in May 1996, investigators quickly learned she had last been seen walking back toward campus with fellow student Paul Flores. Early delays, inconsistent statements, a mysterious black eye, and later cadaver dog alerts inside Flores' dorm room raised serious questions, but years passed without Kristin being found. Decades later, renewed investigative work and previously unheard witnesses brought attention back to details that had been overlooked or left unresolved in the original investigation. This listener suggestion from Kelsi, Destanie, and Maya examines how those early decisions shaped a case that refused to disappear. Allison walks us through Kristin's story and the evidence investigators kept returning to as the search for answers continued.Over 150 bonus episodes waiting for YOU: https://www.patreon.com/crimeandcoffeecouple Our Amazon Shop (stuff we like that we share on the show): https://amzn.to/48mohHX All our links (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Merch, etc):https://linktr.ee/crimeandcoffee Facebook Group to discuss episodes:www.facebook.com/groups/crimeandcoffeecouplepodcast/ References available at https://www.crimeandcoffeecouple.com a few days after this podcast airs. Tiffany Vulcain grew up neglected by her parents, cycled through group homes and juvenile detention, spent her teenage years around gang life, and hit the streets on her own after turning 18 before a credit card scheme and the wrong group of people produced a five year federal prison sentence — and had to give birth in one of the most isolating and most institutionally indifferent environments available. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, she shares what a childhood defined by neglect, group homes, and juvenile detention really produced before the streets found her, what the federal prison sentence that followed the credit card scheme actually looked like from the inside, and what being pregnant in federal prison and giving birth behind bars actually required of a woman who had spent her entire life fighting to survive systems that were never built to help her. _____________________________________________ #pregnancy #prison #truecrimestories #pregnant _____________________________________________ Connect with Tiffany Vulcain: https://www.instagram.com/tjvulcain/ _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction and Tiffany's Story 00:22 Early Life and Foster Care 01:18 Life in Jamaica vs. New York 02:10 Dysfunctional Home and Abuse 04:19 Running Away and Finding the Streets 06:11 Entering the Group Home 07:19 Freedom and Life of Crime Begins 09:40 Gang Involvement and Acceptance 10:46 Teenage Arrest and Juvenile Detention 13:13 Inside the Juvenile Facility 14:14 Returning Home and Foster Care Again 16:03 Aging Out and Exploitation 17:16 Escalating Crime and Credit Card Fraud 20:08 How the Fraud Worked 21:45 Facing the Victims 23:42 Self-Perception and Morality 24:42 Getting Caught in Virginia 27:59 The Federal Investigation 29:13 Turning Yourself In 31:28 The Plea Deal and Decision to Not Snitch 33:47 Estrangement from Family 34:15 Arrested Again While Pregnant 35:43 Experiencing Rikers Island 38:00 Sentencing and Lost Self-Surrender 40:08 Transport to MDC Brooklyn 41:40 The MINT Program and Women in MDC 43:57 Husband and Baby Plans 45:08 Giving Birth in Prison 53:16 Compassion vs. Desensitization 54:20 After Birth: Hospital and Advocacy 56:20 Baby in ICU and Special Permission 57:42 Leaving the Hospital Without Baby 01:00:42 Returning to Prison in Depression 01:02:02 Danbury Prison and Transition to Male Facility 01:04:12 Fight and Transfer to Philadelphia 01:07:23 The Shoe and Diesel Therapy 01:10:01 Flight with Chris Brown 01:11:42 Visits and Regret 01:12:24 Life in Philadelphia and Self-Discovery 01:14:00 Another Fight and Return to Brooklyn 01:15:20 Coming Home Without a Plan 01:16:00 Post-Prison Struggles and Betrayal 01:17:20 The Turning Point 01:19:20 Healing and Rebranding 01:20:14 Finding Purpose in Re-entry Work 01:22:51 Current Success and Roles 01:24:10 Message to Younger Self _____________________________________________ To advertise on the show, contact sales@advertisecast.com or visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/LockedInWithIanBicka

You asked. You waited. And yes... Handsome Hot Husband is finally back. After a little hiatus from the microphone, Dan returns to Casa De Confidence for the kind of episode longtime listeners know and love: part catching up, part behind-the-scenes conversation, part podcast recommendations—and plenty of completely unplanned Julie-and-Dan detours.Julie and Dan catch up on life at Casa De Collins, including the bathroom remodel that started as a "simple" project and somehow became a new shower, vanity, toilet, flooring, washer and dryer relocation, shower door, lighting...you know, the usual home-renovation mission creep. But there's also some pretty exciting news to celebrate.Casa De Confidence is celebrating six years of podcasting and was named Best Podcast in New England in its category by Women in Podcasting Magazine.Six years of conversations have also created something Julie and Dan never could have predicted when they started: relationships with remarkable podcasters, entrepreneurs, experts, authors, and friends. So this week, they're turning the tables and sharing some of the podcasts they help produce—and genuinely think you should be listening to.They talk about Jane Pilger's Binge Eating Breakthrough as she approaches an incredible 200 episodes; Ashley Capel and Jessica Chariton's hyperlocal Real Estate in the Rockies; Natalie Kime's increasingly personal conversations about caregiving, loss, finances, and end-of-life planning on Chat with Nat; Dr. Kristin Cook's neuroscience-informed parenting conversations on momdoctalk; Michele Weston's chronic illness and patient-advocacy conversations on Beyond My Diagnosis; Mary Foerster's Real Estate Connections; Julia Toothacre's career advice on Control Your Career; and Julie's own daily-ish experiment, Brave Moves.Along the way, Julie opens up about the unexpected realities of becoming a caregiver, Dan explains why he doesn't measure life in milestones, and the two somehow end up planning a 16-day transatlantic cruise, debating geography, discussing AI-generated computer screens, and trying to decide between Guinness, fish and chips, and noodles for date night.Basically, Casa De Confidence is Casa De Confidence again. And that's exactly the point. In This EpisodeJulie and Dan talk about six years of Casa De Confidence, Dan's return to the microphone, building Casa De Confidence Productions, the unexpected realities of caregiving, what makes a great podcast, why different voices and stories matter, the shows they're currently producing and listening to, Julie's Brave Moves experiment, creating a life with greater intention, and what's next for the show.Plus, there's a little travel dreaming, questionable geography, plenty of teasing, and the return of the banter.Pull up a chair, grab a drink, and make yourself at home. Something happened in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial that's harder to process than the crime itself. Jurors cried as the medical examiner walked through injuries consistent with asphyxia in two of Clancy's three children. Clancy broke down sobbing at the defense table. The judge called multiple recesses. Her defense attorney, who spent three brutal hours cross-examining her psychiatrist days before, didn't ask the medical examiner a single follow-up.But it's what her husband said that's dominating conversation around this trial. Patrick Clancy took the stand and described the final morning his three children were alive — and his choice of words has people arguing.Clancy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at the family's Duxbury home. Her defense is built on undiagnosed postpartum psychosis, supported by a medication history that reads like a system failure: thirteen psychiatric prescriptions across five prescribers in four months, none of them coordinating care, a hospital that allegedly declined to treat her, a nurse practitioner who called her symptoms "quite common." Journal entries entered into the trial record document her unraveling in her own words, days before everything changed.Bob Motta watched all of it unfold ten feet from Clancy. This episode covers the testimony, the paper trail the medical system left behind, and the one line from her husband that's proving impossible to square with everything else in this case.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? There's a moment in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial that's harder to sit with than the autopsy testimony — and that's saying something. Jurors wept when the medical examiner described injuries consistent with asphyxia in two of Clancy's three children. Clancy sobbed at the defense table and said she couldn't go through it. The judge called multiple recesses. Her attorney, who'd torn into her psychiatrist for three straight hours days before, sat silent through the medical examiner's testimony. But it's her husband's words that this episode keeps circling back to. Patrick Clancy took the stand and described the day their three children died in a way the courtroom did not expect.Clancy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at the family's Duxbury home. Her defense rests on undiagnosed postpartum psychosis, built on a paper trail that's hard to look away from: thirteen psychiatric medications from five prescribers in four months, none of them coordinating, one hospital that allegedly turned her away for being overmedicated, a nurse practitioner who called her symptoms "quite common." Her journal entries, read into the trial record, chart a woman losing her grip on her own mind days before it happened.Bob Motta was in that courtroom watching the jury process all of it in real time. In early December 1971, after a month of watching the lightbulbs in the List house slowly burn out one after another, neighbors finally became concerned about the List family and called the Westfield, NJ police to report their suspicions. Acting on the calls, officers arrived at house on the morning of December 7 to perform a wellbeing check, and when no one answered the door, they managed to gain access to the house through a basement window.  When they reached the first floor, the officers found the bodies of the List family—including the couple's three children—dead from gunshot wounds to the head they'd suffered a month earlier. Noticeably absent from the remains in the house were those of the family patriarch, John List. In his office, investigators discovered a letter List had written to the pastor of his local church, in which he claimed to have murdered his family in order to spare them the pain of living in a world he believed had become corrupt and morally bankrupt.
