My friend Rev. Jamie White (Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City, theological/pastoral education from Vanguard University and Princeton Seminary, married mother of three) joins us to share her story including: Being raped at age 18, becoming pregnant, keeping her child—now her eldest son/recently married Feeling her life was ruined. No hope. Deep anger. Could have killed her abuser Writing letters to her unborn son The support that saved her; parents and faith community, and her mom's tough advice Therapist jolting comment: “This tragedy must become your greatest treasure.” Initial anger at this comment—but became true. Hard work to find peace and forgiveness—loving your enemies. Finding her husband Dave—and building a life together. Creating space in her congregation for diversity rather than uniformity, tough work but worth it Acceptance and love of queer members of her congregation—including the story of a thriving transgender member. If you are looking for hope/healing from difficult experiences (or better tools to help others), please listen and share this episode. Jamie brings a rare combination from her academic background, profession experience, love of Jesus, and her personal story of being a rape survivor to authentically help each of us overcome difficult experiences and find more hope, peace, healing and forgiveness. This is a super powerful podcast. I encourage everyone to listen and share with others. Underwriting and Marketing With AI

The Real Estate Crowdfunding Show - DEAL TIME!

Most CRE teams are not losing deals because of capital, talent, or market access.   They are losing because they move too slowly because initial underwriting and deal marketing are still painfully manual across much of the industry.   Spreadsheets. Templates. Design tools. Email chains. Outsourced vendors.   All stitched together by habit.   That friction costs time, and time costs deals.   In my latest AI/CRE Demo Day show Anton Zajac, CEO of IntellCRE, demonstrates (onscreen) what happens when those bottlenecks disappear.   What stood out immediately: BOVs and OMs that once took 20+ hours can be produced in minutes Initial underwriting and marketing stop being separate workflows Small teams gain enterprise-level output capacity Deal marketing becomes proactive, not reactive IntellCRE automates the unglamorous middle of CRE work: data aggregation, comps, market context, financials, and presentation.   The result is not just speed. It's a pure, AI driven competitive advantage.   Some questions the platform answers clearly: What if initial deal screening was no longer the bottleneck? What if marketing output scaled without adding staff? What if BOVs became a prospecting weapon instead of a sunk cost? What changes when responsiveness becomes your edge? If you work in brokerage, acquisitions, or high-volume CRE investing and speed matters to you, this is worth seeing.   Not a concept.   Not a slide deck.   A genuine AI platform specifically designed for CRE pros. Trust me (I'm a doctor) this is worth a look.   ***   At GowerCrowd, we are aggressively researching AI tools you can actually use and that bring real, immediate value to your business.    Subscribe to my newsletter and get access to this transformational intel before anyone else:  https://gowercrowd.com/subscribe Email: adam@gowercrowd.com Call: 213-761-1000

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 2, 2026 31:56 Transcription Available

BIO: Athena Brownson is a Denver realtor, investor, developer, and former professional skier whose resilience through chronic illness fuels her refined, strategic, and client-focused approach to real estate.STORY: Athena lost $130,000 in her first development project when a builder she considered a friend vanished with the upfront funds. Her trust and incomplete due diligence led to a total loss, teaching her that personal relationships can create dangerous blind spots in business.LEARNING: Due diligence is non-negotiable. Trust is a liability. “A simple conversation with someone that we know, like, and trust is invaluable, because they can point out to us the blind spots that we may have missed in our excitement.”Athena Brownson Guest profileAthena Brownson is a Denver realtor, investor, developer, and former professional skier whose resilience through chronic illness fuels her refined, strategic, and client-focused approach to real estate.Worst investment everAthena Brownson entered her first development project with confidence and a seemingly dream team. With a 45-year veteran developer—her father—by her side, she felt prepared. She had saved diligently, owned the land, and chose a builder she'd known for three years, a dear friend's business partner. After multiple interviews where her father asked all the right questions, they felt secure. They signed a contract and paid $130,000 upfront for site clearing, asbestos abatement, and foundation work.Initial excitement turned to unease as progress was glacial. A blue fence went up, and some abatement started, but then communication stopped. Phone lines went dead. Subcontractors began calling Athena directly, asking why they hadn't been paid. The devastating truth emerged: the builder had vanished with the funds. Athena later discovered she was one of eight victims of the same scam. Despite her real estate expertise and her father's decades of experience, they had been outmaneuvered by a trusted contact.Lessons learnedDue diligence is non-negotiable: Trust is not a replacement for verification. Athena's key takeaway was the need for exhaustive due diligence: calling not just a few references, but a comprehensive list of past and current clients to hear the unfiltered story of their experiences.Friendship clouds judgment: A personal connection created a dangerous blind spot. It made her and her experienced team less likely to probe aggressively or assume the worst, a bias scammers often exploit.Assume the worst, hope for the best: The mindset must shift from “I trust you until you prove me wrong” to “Show me consistent, verifiable proof that you are trustworthy.” In business, healthy skepticism is a necessary form of self-defense.Measure twice, cut once: This adage applies to money and contracts. Double and triple-check every detail, every claim, and every line item before funds change hands.Andrew's takeawaysMoney is life energy: Andrew referenced the classic book Your Money or Your Life, emphasizing that money represents hours of your life traded for it. Guarding it fiercely is an act of...

Segment 1: Interview with Warwick Webb From Initial Entry to Resilience: Understanding Modern Attack Flows Modern cyberattacks don't unfold as isolated alerts--they move as coordinated attack flows that exploit gaps between tools, teams, and time. In this episode, Warwick Webb, Vice President of Managed Detection and Response at SentinelOne, breaks down how today's breaches often begin invisibly, progress undetected through siloed security stacks, and accelerate faster than human response alone can handle. He'll discuss how unified platforms, machine-speed detection powered by global threat intelligence, and expert-led response change the equation--turning fragmented signals into clear attack narratives. The conversation concludes with how organizations can move beyond incident response to build resilience, readiness, and continuous improvement through post-attack analysis. Listeners will leave with a clearer understanding of how attacks actually unfold in the real world—and what it takes to move from reactive alert handling to true attack-flow-driven defense. Getting the worst flu of your life isn't a perfect plan for anyone's marathon race-week, but if there's any athlete who's used to less-than-ideal prep it's Hamilton's Erin Mawhinney, a nurse educator who balances training upwards of 150km each week with the demands of full-time healthcare work. At last month's Marathon Project in Arizona, Mawhinney's hopes of capitalizing on a flat, fast course against world-class competition were dashed by a nasty race-week flu that forced her to withdraw just 10K into the race. Yet for her and coach Reid Coolsaet, a 2xOlympian at the marathon himself, letting the months great training go unused was never an option.  Fast forward to January 11th and Mawhinney was back on the starting line of a marathon for the second time in under a month, this time in Texas at the Aramco Houston Marathon. Free from the illness that had derailed her previous attempt, Mawhinney would go on to run a massive 7-minute personal best of 2:29:36, finishing 5th in the women's elite field and making her the 12th fastest Canadian marathoner of all time. Today on The Shakeout Podcast, we're joined by Erin Mawhinney and Coach Reid Coolsaet to talk about the work behind the breakout performance and how they approach elite marathon training while balancing the demands of a full life outside of sport. Follow Erin @ErinMawhinney_Follow Reid @ReidCoolsaetSubscribe to The Shakeout Podcast feed on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you find your podcasts.Huge thank you to this week's sponsor Smartwool. This Day in Legal History: “Axis of Evil”On January 29, 2002, President George W. Bush delivered his first State of the Union address after the September 11 attacks, a speech that would shape U.S. legal and foreign policy for years to come. During the address, Bush coined the term “Axis of Evil” to describe Iran, Iraq, and North Korea, alleging these nations were actively pursuing weapons of mass destruction and supporting terrorism. The speech marked a significant rhetorical shift in the U.S. posture toward preemptive military action and helped solidify a legal framework for broad executive authority in the name of national security. Citing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), the Bush administration would go on to justify military interventions without new Congressional declarations of war.The “Axis of Evil” framing played a critical role in building public and political support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Though the legal justification centered on Iraq's supposed weapons programs and ties to terrorism, both claims were later discredited, leading to intense scrutiny of the legal rationale behind the war. Domestically, the period following the speech saw rapid expansion of executive power, new surveillance authorities, and detention practices that raised constitutional concerns. Internationally, the speech signaled a departure from multilateral norms and toward unilateral action under the banner of American security interests. The legal legacy of the address continues to reverberate in debates over presidential war powers and the limits of the AUMF. Critics argue the speech set a precedent for indefinite military engagement without sufficient Congressional oversight. Supporters contend it met the urgency of a new kind of threat in the post-9/11 world. Regardless of viewpoint, the 2002 State of the Union redefined the intersection of law, war, and foreign policy in the 21st century.A preliminary review by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) into the murder of Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis did not state that Pretti brandished a firearm, contradicting earlier claims by Trump officials. Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was shot after reportedly refusing to move from the street when ordered by a customs officer. Initial official statements described Pretti as an armed threat, with the Department of Homeland Security noting he had a handgun—though it was holstered—and Trump aide Stephen Miller labeling him a “domestic terrorist” without evidence. However, video footage from the scene challenged these claims, showing an agent removing a holstered weapon from Pretti's waist before the shooting. The CBP review, based on body camera footage and internal documents, said officers attempted to move Pretti and a woman from the street and used pepper spray when they didn't comply. A struggle followed, during which a Border Patrol agent shouted “He's got a gun!” before both agents opened fire. The review, which is standard protocol, was shared with lawmakers but emphasized it contained no final conclusions. The identities and experience levels of the involved officers, particularly regarding urban crowd control, remain undisclosed. The incident has sparked national controversy and prompted a more restrained response from Trump in its aftermath.U.S. review of Alex Pretti killing does not mention him brandishing firearm | ReutersThe U.S. federal judiciary may only be able to continue full paid operations through February 4 if Congress does not pass funding legislation in time to avert a partial government shutdown. Judge Robert Conrad, who oversees the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, issued a memo warning of the looming shortfall, stating that while courts will remain open on February 2, they would quickly exhaust available funds by February 4. The uncertainty comes amid a broader funding standoff in Congress, where a six-bill package—including money for defense, housing, transportation, and a $9.2 billion judiciary allocation—is stalled.A key point of contention is the funding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), especially following the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen Alex Pretti by immigration officers. Senate Democrats are now refusing to approve DHS funding without reforms, throwing into doubt whether the broader package can pass. Although the bills had passed the Republican-controlled House and previously seemed poised for Senate approval, the Pretti incident has triggered renewed partisan gridlock. If no agreement is reached, this shutdown could affect the judiciary much sooner than the previous lapse in 2025, when courts operated for over two weeks before curtailing services. The current funding crisis threatens court staffing, case management, and broader access to justice. The memo underscores the fragile position of the courts in a prolonged budget standoff, with potential furloughs and suspended operations looming if a deal isn't struck.US judiciary may not be able to fully maintain operations past Feb. 4 in government shutdown | ReutersGoogle has agreed to pay $135 million to settle a proposed class action lawsuit accusing it of collecting Android users' cellular data without their consent. The settlement, filed in federal court in San Jose, California, still needs judicial approval. The lawsuit claimed that even when users closed Google apps, disabled location sharing, or locked their devices, Google continued to gather mobile data, which users had paid for through their carriers. Plaintiffs alleged this behavior amounted to “conversion,” a legal term referring to the unauthorized taking of someone's property for one's own use.Though Google denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to stop transferring data without user consent during Android device setup. The company will also update its Google Play terms to clearly disclose data transfers and give users simpler options to disable them. The case covers Android users dating back to November 12, 2017. If approved, users could receive up to $100 each from the settlement fund.Plaintiffs' attorneys described the agreement as the largest known payout in a conversion case, and they may seek nearly $40 million in legal fees. A trial had been set for August 2026 before the settlement was reached. Google has not commented on the resolution.Google to pay $135 million to settle Android data transfer lawsuit | ReutersGoogle to Pay $135 Million to Settle Android Phone-Data SuitA Christian substitute teacher, Kimberly Ann Polk, has lost her attempt to revive First Amendment claims against Maryland's Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) after refusing to use transgender students' pronouns. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's decision, finding Polk unlikely to succeed on claims that the district's pronoun policy violated her free speech and religious freedom rights. The court ruled she failed to show any evidence of religious hostility from the school board and did not meet the legal threshold to proceed with her constitutional claims.Polk argued that MCPS's policy, which requires staff to use names and pronouns aligned with students' gender identities and bars disclosing those identities to unsupportive parents, conflicted with her belief that gender is fixed at birth. While the court dismissed her constitutional claims, it allowed her separate Title VII claim for religious accommodation to proceed. This claim argues that MCPS violated federal civil rights law by not making space for her religious beliefs in its employment practices. The decision was split, with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson dissenting. He called the school policy a “gross assault upon the First Amendment” and argued Polk had a valid free speech claim. The case reflects ongoing national legal tensions between employee religious rights and school policies supporting LGBTQ+ students. Notably, another federal appeals court had previously sided with a teacher in a similar dispute, signaling a potential circuit split.Christian Teacher Can't Undo Pronoun Case First Amendment Loss This is a public episode. Highlights: The Browns have hired experienced offensive coach Todd Monken as their 19th full-time head coach. Initial fan reaction to the hire was mixed, but winning will ultimately determine his approval. Inside Monken's difficult 2019 season in Cleveland Monken is known for a blunt, no-nonsense coaching philosophy focused on accountability and winning. The Browns prioritized fixing their "broken" and lowest-scoring offense by hiring Monken over defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. As a play-calling specialist rather than a "CEO" type, Monken's success will heavily depend on hiring a strong, autonomous defensive coordinator. Why it's unlikely that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will return after being passed over for the head coaching position. Why Monken's immediate priorities should be to establish an offensive vision and build trust with defensive players who supported Schwartz. The Cavs' recent success is credited to a dramatic improvement in their defensive performance. A debate has emerged over Darius Garland's future role, with Terry suggesting he could lead the second unit upon his return from injury. The Guardians signed star third baseman Jose Ramirez to a significant four-year, $107 million contract extension. Ramirez's deal, which includes deferred money and a hometown discount, is highlighted as a rare act of player loyalty in modern sports. When Ghislaine Maxwell was first arrested in July 2020 on federal charges related to her role in Jeffrey Epstein's sex-trafficking network, her legal team immediately sought to have her released on pretrial bail — a request that was denied by a federal judge. At her initial detention hearing, Maxwell's lawyers proposed she be released on a $5 million bail package and confined under conditions such as home monitoring in New York while she prepared her defense. Despite her plea that she “vigorously denies the charges,” intended to fight them in court, the judge ruled she posed a significant flight risk given her wealth, international ties, and access to multiple passports — including British and French citizenship — and ordered her to remain in custody.Maxwell's defense quickly pivoted to a more aggressive strategy later that year, offering a much larger bond — upwards of $28 million, backed by assets from her and her husband — and even suggesting conditions like renouncing foreign citizenship to assuage the court's concerns. Prosecutors, however, continued to argue that the combination of her finances and international connections made her inherently unlikely to stay put, and the judge reaffirmed the earlier decision, keeping her jailed pending trial. These early bail battles set the tone for Maxwell's pretrial period, highlighting the judiciary's determination to ensure she remained in custody until her case could be resolved.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Alcohol, Problem Drinking and Recovery Pathways - Navigating a Long Gap Between Counselling Training Levels In Episode 363 of the Counselling Tutor Podcast, your hosts Rory Lees-Oakes and Ken Kelly take us through this week's three topics: Firstly, in ‘Ethical, Sustainable Practice', we explore choosing the right online tech for counselling, highlighting how equipment and setup affect professionalism and therapeutic presence. Then in ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Caroline Evers-Endacott about working with alcohol, problem drinking, and recovery pathways – emphasising how therapists can work ethically and effectively with clients navigating addiction. And finally, in ‘Student Services', Rory and Ken offer guidance on how to manage long breaks between counselling training levels, including tips for maintaining motivation, skills, and learning during study gaps. Choosing the Right Online Tech [starts at 03:46 mins] This section discusses the importance of treating your online counselling setup with the same care as your in-person therapy room by choosing the right online tech. Clients form first impressions based on what they see and hear - tech choices impact the therapeutic relationship. A stable internet connection and good audio are essential foundations for online work. Simple improvements like wired internet, quality microphones, and appropriate camera framing can significantly improve the client experience. Consistency and professionalism in your online presence - including background, lighting, and audio - promote client trust and comfort. Being prepared for tech failures and using headphones for confidentiality are practical ways to uphold ethical standards. Alcohol, Problem Drinking and Recovery Pathways [starts at 32:38 mins] In this week's ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Caroline Evers-Endacott, an integrative therapist and addiction specialist, about supporting clients with alcohol use issues. Abstinence is not the only recovery outcome - therapy should support client-led goals and reduce harm. Initial assessments must include alcohol use patterns, severity, and risks - possibly involving GPs or specialists where needed. Clients may not disclose drinking concerns early - therapists should be prepared when such disclosures emerge later in the work. Counsellors can remain part of the recovery journey, even when referrals are made to specialist services. The stigma of addiction and cultural norms around alcohol can affect how clients perceive their drinking and seek help. Navigating a Long Gap Between Counselling Training Levels [starts at 58:30 mins] This segment addresses the reality of study breaks and how students can make the most of the time between qualification stages. Gaps between training levels are common and sometimes unavoidable - planning how to use the time constructively is key. Keeping up with theory through reading, podcasts, and online learning helps maintain momentum. Practising counselling skills in peer groups or volunteering roles keeps techniques sharp and relevant. Skills like active listening and empathy are valuable in everyday life - use them to stay engaged with your development. Preparing for interviews on advanced courses by showing ongoing engagement and learning can strengthen your application. Episode snapshotDebbie Lamond (near London, UK) is a yoga teacher and yoga therapist specializing in support for people living with lymphoedema. After decades of personal practice and training with the British Wheel of Yoga, she blends breathwork, Yoga Nidra, gentle movement, self-care for the lymphatic system, and realistic habit tracking. This conversation feels like tea with a wise friend—practical, hopeful, and grounded in ahiṃsā, svādhyāya, and the steady courage of śraddhā.What we coverDebbie's path: yoga since 1994, why it offered something team sports and fitness didn't—time, calm, and coming home to self.Lymphoedema support, plain language: why movement, hydration, skin care, and compression are foundations—and how yoga fits in.Breath changes the body: how diaphragmatic breathing helps down-shift sympathetic overdrive and, anecdotally, can ease night-time swelling enough to return to sleep.Yoga tools that help: slow rhythmic movement, Yoga Nidra for nervous-system recovery, present-moment awareness to interrupt “what-if” spirals.Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD): “open the drains,” then move—pair with water intake and gentle activity.Ayurvedic lifestyle touches: cooling choices when heat aggravates symptoms, morning light, toxin reduction, and a simple habit tracker.Agency and dignity: building a daily routine you'll actually keep—this isn't a quick-fix pill.Practical takeaways (save/print)Three-minute reset: recline, elevate legs, one hand on belly; inhale gently through the nose, exhale a little longer; ~15–20 breaths. Notice if sensation and anxiety both dial down.Daily rhythm idea:Brief self-MLD (as taught by a qualified therapist).10–20 minutes of gentle yoga or a short walk.Hydrate and quick skin-check.Yoga Nidra or guided rest later in the day if swelling or fatigue rises.Get support: work with a qualified lymphoedema therapist for compression, self-care education, and monitoring. How yoga philosophy frames this workAhiṃsā (non-harm): move/rest in ways that protect tissue and reduce irritation.Svādhyāya (self-study): track patterns—sleep, flares, foods, stressors—without judgment.Īśvara-praṇidhāna (surrender): accept today's reality while practicing skillful effort. Together, these form a sustainable sādhana for long-term conditions.Resources mentionedBritish Wheel of Yoga (for teacher standards and CPD)Lymphoedema Support Network (UK)Manual Lymph Drainage (find a qualified therapist)Yoga Nidra recordings for regulation and restWho this episode is forPeople living with primary or secondary lymphoedema; those post-treatment or post-surgery; clinicians curious about integrating breath and gentle movement; yoga therapists seeking condition-specific insights.About our guestDebbie Lamond is a UK-based yoga teacher and yoga therapist focusing on lymphoedema support. Senate Republicans had pushed just last week to add up to $15B in aid, but that language was left out. With aid excluded for now, supporters say relief may need to come via supplemental appropriations or future legislation.Congress must pass the funding package by January 30 to avoid another government shutdown. It was also reported yesterday that nationwide E15 language was again dropped, though GOP leaders are discussing a possible supplemental bill that could allow year-round E15 sales.Major Winter Storm RiskA major winter storm is forecast to impact the Southern US this weekend. While the exact track remains uncertain, over 70 million people from Dallas to Little Rock to Nashville are currently under a winter storm watch.Snow, ice, dangerous travel conditions, and power outages are possible. Snow cover remains limited across key HRW wheat areas in the Southern Plains. Temperatures in western Kansas and surrounding regions could fall into the single digits, raising the risk of winter kill depending on snow totals and duration. Livestock stress is also a concern.US–China Trade WatchUS and Chinese officials may soon hold another round of trade talks ahead of the planned April meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.According to the US Trade Representative, negotiations would focus on common goods and services, avoiding sensitive areas like tech and national security.China has already fulfilled its commitment to purchase 12 mmt of US soybeans. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said both sides are now looking ahead to China's pledge to buy 25 mmt annually through 2028, though Trump continues to push for larger volumes.Europe, Greenland & TariffsPresident Trump announced he will refrain from imposing new tariffs on European countries, following meetings at the World Economic Forum. He stated that a framework for a future deal involving Greenland has been reached, marking a major shift from prior tariff threats. While details remain limited, Denmark continues to oppose any US takeover.Grain Market RecapSoybean futures rebounded Wednesday, with the most-active Mar26 contract gaining roughly 12 cents, settling near $10.65.Support came from a slow start to Brazil's soybean harvest due to rainfall in northern regions, along with comments from Treasury Secretary Bessent pointing to ongoing Chinese demand for US soybeans.Global Protein TradeChina has reopened its market to Canadian beef imports, ending a ban that had been in place since 2021. Initial shipments are expected to be small, but the move is a positive long-term opportunity for Canada's cattle industry.Meanwhile, US beef exports to China have declined sharply over the past year amid ongoing trade tensions.India & Wheat ExportsIndia has approved the export of 500,000 tons of wheat flour and related products. Wheat exports had been restricted since May 2022, but a strong monsoon is expected to boost domestic supplies.India is typically self-sufficient in wheat and is sometimes a net exporter. Its re-entry into the export market is considered a bearish factor for global wheat prices.

If there's one word to describe the professional career of Lucia Stafford, it's consistency. Since storming onto her first Olympic team in Tokyo at just 22, there has yet to be a global championship or major games where the Toronto native hasn't been a part of Team Canada. For half a decade, she's been a constant presence on national championship podiums, while also lowering Canadian records at both the 1K and 2K distances.Yet, for all the success that consistency has brought over the past five years, 2026 will be a season of change for Stafford. Earlier this month she announced her move to the U.K., where she has joined the likes of Olympic medallists Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter-Bell as a member of the Manchester-based M11 track Club. Today on The Shakeout Podcast, Lucia joins us from training camp in South Africa, sharing about her decision to strike out in a new direction and what she's excited for in the new year, with a new team around her. Follow Lucia on Instagram @luciastafford7Subscribe to The Shakeout Podcast feed on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you find your podcasts.Huge thank you to this week's sponsor Smartwool. Bish & Brown: Why Drew Petzing Fits Detroit - Detroit Lions Podcast

A surprising hire, a clear philosophy The Detroit Lions have their new offensive coordinator. Drew Petzing is in. On the Detroit Lions Podcast, Russell Brown and Scott Bischoff sifted through first impressions and got to the substance. Initial reactions felt muted. The shiny name wasn't coming. But the more they worked through scheme and personnel, the more the hire fit what the Lions want to be in the NFL. They pushed back on the noise. Fans cherry-picked stats. Few considered what Petzing had to work with. The conversation stayed on the grand picture: what this offense needs to do on Sundays and how Petzing can get it there. Lessons from Arizona that matter in Detroit Petzing's Arizona run offered useful clues. In 2023 he split the year between Kyler Murray for eight games and Josh Dobbs for eight. Dobbs looked good in that structure. In 2024 Murray played the full season. The offense was fine, not great, but functional. In the most recent season, Murray played about four or five games. Context mattered across all three years. Usage stood out. James Conner was highly productive despite not being a super explosive athlete. Arizona created touches for him as a runner and receiver. That detail resonated with Detroit. Think Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Creative throws to backs. Turn easy completions into first downs. That is bankable offense when games tighten. The fit: second-and-4 football The hosts kept returning to down-and-distance. This is the point of the Detroit Lions offense. Get to second and four. Open the playbook. Run play action. Move the chains. Control the clock. Petzing aligns with that identity. The expectation is a coherent ground attack that puts Jared Goff and the passing game in favorable spots. They contrasted that with the allure of Mike McDaniel. Fun idea, but not a clean fit. Shotgun-heavy. Wide zone as a base. That would force major changes to what Detroit does. Petzing's approach blends easier with the current core and the way the Lions want to play in the NFL. Framing the 2026 NFL Draft The discussion acknowledged uncertainty around how this hire touches the 2026 NFL Draft. The lens is clearer than the board. Build an offense that lives in manageable downs. Lean on play action. Feature backs in the passing game when the coverage picture invites it. Those are guideposts for roster planning, not predictions. It was cold outside. Snow piled up. Inside the Detroit Lions Podcast, the thesis warmed up fast: the name might not sparkle, but the fit makes sense. That is what matters for Detroit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp037jHNnn0 #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #drewpetzing #arizonacardinals #offensivecoordinator #kylermurray #joshdobbs #jamesconner #jahmyrgibbs #davidmontgomery #rungame #playaction #shotgunoffense #widezone #bradholmes #2026nfldraft Learn more about your ad choices. THE BATTLE OF MENOTOMY AND INFORMATION WARFARE Colleague Patrick O'Donnell. Following the initial skirmishes, the conflict escalated into the Battle of Menotomy, where Marbleheaders engaged the retreating British column in brutal combat. O'Donnell highlights a sophisticated "information warfare" campaign led by Elbridge Gerry, who compiled depositions to establish that the Crown fired first. The Patriots acquired a fast ship to rush this narrative to England, arriving two weeks before General Gage's official report and successfully swaying British public opinion. Additionally, this segment illustrates the civil war atmosphere, describing how Dr. Nathaniel Bond was threatened by neighbors for treating wounded British soldiers. NUMBER 21860
