I sit down with Dr. Daniel Bannoura, a Palestinian Christian theologian whose work refuses to separate belief from lived reality. Together, we explore the intersection of faith, politics, and identity in the Middle East—confronting how the legacy of empire and the rise of Christian Zionism have distorted the gospel, and how systems of violence continue to shape both perception and policy. At its core, this is a conversation about clarity and courage: listening to Palestinian voices and reexamining what justice, truth, and the gospel really demand.

Journalist Daoud Kuttab examines how Israel has used global attention on Iran to intensify settler violence and expand the seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank. He also describes how attacks and harassment by the Israeli government and settlers against Palestinian Christians have increased, targeting their towns and villages as well as churches, schools, and other religious institutions. Kuttab is a former Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University and the publisher of Milhilard.org, a platform dedicated to the Christian community in Jordan and Palestine. He currently serves as Senior Communications Officer for the World Evangelical Alliance. He is the author of several books, most recently State of Palestine NOW.

I was extremely fortunate to be at Kirk’s Student Action Summit (along with 8,000 young people there) when Kirk told Carlson and Megyn Kelly to “go max” on the ugliness of Zionist control in America and extermination in Gaza and the West Bank at Kirk’s final important event in Tampa, Florida in July 2025.

Why have so many Christian leaders been supportive of Israel while ignoring the plight of Palestinian Christians who have been killed in Gaza alongside their Muslim neighbors? Since October 7, 2023, Israel's response to the attack by Hamas, breaking out of the world's largest open-air prison (as described by Bob Simon of CBS's 60 Minutes in 2012), has been brutal on the population of Gaza. Over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed, and over 70% of Gaza has been destroyed, including schools, hospitals, churches, mosques, housing, and infrastructure. Yet, there have been very few Christian voices speaking out for peace and justice. Are they being held back by the false theology of Christian Zionism that has a grip on our nation's leaders?  There are exceptions. Pastor Scott Korljan of the Sojourn Church in Scottsdale, AZ, delivered a powerful message on 2/1/2025 filled with sound, logical biblical references that put Jesus first, not Israel. It's a 35-minute message that needs to be repeated in pulpits across the United States for thinking, caring followers of Christ.

A story of one Palestinian's fight against brutality, bureaucracy, and bishops.  We Belong to the Land: The Story of a Palestinian Israeli Who Lives for Peace and Reconciliation By: Elias Chacour and Mary E. Jensen Published: 1990 212 Pages Briefly, what is this book about? An autobiographical account of Chacour's struggles as a Palestinian Christian working to build up his community in Galilee (Ibillin) while under continual pushback from Israeli bureaucracy and internal church politics. What's the author's angle? At the time the book was written Chacour was a Melkite Greek Catholic Priest in the town of Ibillin. (He was later appointed to be the Archbishop of Haifa.) He has worked tirelessly to resolve the Palestinian problem using nonviolent means that emphasize reconciliation and the common background of both people. He pushes for Palestinians to be treated with dignity, but also for them to create dignified institutions. These institutions, particularly the school he founded, take up most of his energy. Who should read this book? As part of my post on Israel and Hamas I asked for books making the pro-Palestinian case. One of my readers recommended this book. It was a good book, but to the extent that it illuminated the problem it did so very obliquely. This is the story of a non-violent Palestinian Christian written over 30 years ago. Certainly it helped my understanding at maybe a 30,000 foot level?  But it didn't shed much light on the current crisis.  However, if you want the story of someone who took a really "bad hand" and did something truly extraordinary with it, then this is your book. Specific thoughts: If every Palestinian and every Israeli resembled Chacour and his congregation then the problem would be solved.

Having witnessed relentless horrors over two years of genocidal war in Gaza, former Israeli and Palestinian combatants are coming together in nonviolent co-resistance and shared struggle. In this episode of the Marc Steiner Show, Palestinian educator and healer Nimala Karoufeh and former Israeli soldier Noa Harrell of Combatants for Peace explain how their binational movement has held together since Oct. 7, 2023, and what real peace-building from the ground up would require.Guests:Noa Harrell joined Combatants for Peace in 2016 and directly witnessed the power of nonviolent resistance to Israel's occupation in the West Bank. This life-changing experience led her to participate in binational activities across Israel and Palestine, including dialogues, educational programs, demonstrations, protective presence, joint grief ceremonies, and rehabilitation of demolished West Bank communities. In October 2023, shortly after the Hamas attacks on Israel, Harrell was elected Israeli General Coordinator of Combatants for Peace, coordinating actions between Israeli and Palestinian members, supervising programs, and serving as Israeli chair.Nimala Karoufeh is a Palestinian Christian from Beit Jala, now living in Jerusalem. She holds a master's degree in European Studies from the University of Düsseldorf and a bachelor's in Social Work and Psychology from Bethlehem University. For more than 15 years, she has led transformative programs with local and international NGOs focused on women's and youth empowerment, leadership, community development, and peacebuilding.
