Salesforce reckons it's the end of the DIY AI era – and global CMO Ariel Kelman is tasked with addressing what his CEO, Marc Benioff said last week is Salesforce's biggest marketing challenge: convincing global markets to think less about Open AI, Microsoft copilots and other generative AI companies that require businesses to custom-bake the tech into their organisations to make it work – and more about the deployment of low code, no code, autonomous AI agents that can be built and tested and live within weeks, if not days. The difference is that Salesforce is pointing these agents directly at existing customer systems and data, rather than brands spending “literally tens of millions of dollars with cloud providers to train these models” from scratch. “There are lots of use cases where you do need to train and fine-tune your models. But absolutely not sales, service, marketing and commerce – the models are smart enough that they can go and grab information,” says Kelman. “It can just scale the work that our customers have already done.” It's working for the likes of Saks, Gucci and Wiley – and some local firms like Fisher & Paykel and Queensland University of Technology are now likewise plugged into what Benioff reckons is “AI's third wave”. Kelman says AI agents “blur the lines” between sales, service and marketing functionality – and coming next is a variant for sales lead development, where the agent will develop the leads until they are warm enough for a human to take over.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Investors are also eyeing the Jackson Hole Symposium and upcoming U.S. economic data, which could significantly impact market trends next week. Dine & Design Series- Part II “A lot of municipalities are considering moving away from gas cooking. It's where the future is going.” -Leslie Delli-Venneri “I have to say I've been reluctant to convert from gas to induction, but this is an amazing piece of equipment!” -Hilary Pisor Episode Description: Cooking is one of the top sources of indoor air pollution. Many of us are used to cooking with a gas range, yet few of us are aware that the resulting smoke coming out of our kitchen's chimney is hazardous to our own household's health. (And to think that we've been doing it for years!) But now innovation has produced eco-friendly solutions to this problem. This week, we are looking at one splendid example. Fisher & Paykel Appliances has completed a design overhaul on their major product lines. These products are not only changing homes everywhere- but changing people's lives as well. Their induction cooktops are sleek, elegant, and most importantly, SUSTAINABLE. The efficiency of using energy in a heat induction stove makes it worthwhile. Unlike gas stoves that release smoke and raise environmental dangers, induction stoves are safer and produce less radiation. While the environmental benefits of induction stoves are always a hot topic, the “people benefits” are often overlooked. Induction stoves have a unique way of saving people time and keeping them safe, especially in a household with children and seniors. In this episode, Justine is joined by Leslie Delli-Venneri, Design Development Manager at Fisher & Paykel Appliances, along with Hilary Pisor, a renowned restaurateur, who demonstrates one of Fisher & Paykel's induction cooktops. Leslie talks about the New Zealand-based Fisher & Paykel, why she is proud to represent the brand, and how it's changing the food industry by bringing freshness and sustainability not only to the kitchen but the entire home. From Hilary, we learn about why she feels cooking is an essential aspect of sustainable living, her perspective as a chef on the quality of food being prepared using these innovative solutions- and when/if other chefs will be ready to make the sustainable switch from gas to induction. Meet Leslie Delli-Venneri: Leslie Delli-Venneri is the Design Development Manager at Fisher & Paykel Appliances. She specializes in consumer goods design and product development. Fisher & Paykel designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of innovative home appliances developed in the spirit of invention. They design products rooted in a commitment to technology, user-friendliness, and environmental awareness. Their design heritage is founded on a pioneering spirit and a culture of curiosity that has challenged conventional appliance design to consistently deliver products tailored to human needs. Today, Fisher & Paykel is still committed to ongoing research and development that fosters a culture of open innovation. Markets are like watching a windscreen wiper, where resources and tech vie for biggest gainer position on alternate days. Today, it was resources up and tech down.Utilities and energy names featured in the top ten as oil and natural gas surged on fresh supply risks from Russia. While the likes of Zip, Telix Pharma and City Chic made up a mixed bag of laggards. Fisher & Paykel slid again, as brokers downgraded the outlook after yesterday's update. In contrast, investors embraced the JB Hi-Fi update, so it added 4.5% despite no concrete forward guidance. In a bifurcated day - just as many broader indices rose and fell - the S&P/ASX200 closed all-but unchanged but bucking a negative lead from Wall St, adding 9 points. As US market participants dream about turkey-laden dining tables instead of sitting at trading desks, today's lacklustre session is highly likely to be repeated tomorrow. Only standout company news delivered a share price response greater than meh. EML Payments closing up over 31 per cent thanks to the green light for the Irish arm to conduct business, while Fisher and Paykel managed a 4.5 per cent gain on welcome dividend news. At the other end, AMP plunging by 5.4 per cent, continuing its never-ending journey towards near-zero. Kogan also slipping 4.4 per cent after a second strike vote on remuneration at its AGM. The Aussie data dump today was not market-moving for the stockpickers, but decent bumps in business investment intentions and October payrolls were welcomed by the macro fraternity. Overall, the ASX200 closed up 8 points or 0.1%. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The market improved through this Wednesday session, as the miners, energy names and the big banks lifted their games. But it just wasn't enough; after being up as much as 0.2%, ASX200 finished down 0.15% at 7399. Technology One was the biggest loser down 8.6% after downgrades from UBS and Macquarie after yesterday's result. Pinnacle suffered as it came back online following a capital raise, ending down +5%. The biggest gainer was Polonovo +3.5% on no news. Let's see what the NASDAQ does tonight with futures pointing to a drop, the release of the FOMC minutes, and ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Tomorrow we'll hear from Fisher & Paykel, with September quarter capex data and weekly payrolls and wages on the macro front. Stay cool. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Nancy welcomed back Jan Rutgers, kitchen designer and founder of Vestabul School of Design, to chat about the ergonomic use of drawers in the kitchen which has become a very important element in kitchen design. You will find this podcast enlightening and very interesting. Find the show notes below: Refrigeration The first appliance to really embrace drawers was refrigerators. Dual Drawers The upper end of the appliance market took the lower freezer drawer to the next level by developing refrigerators with two freezer drawers. Convertible Drawers – Ref/Freezer Another configuration to hit the market was a bottom mount refrigerator with a “convertible” drawer. For a functional design, refrigerators with bottom freezer drawers was a win! Undercounter Refrigerator dDawers Manufacturers produced all freezer drawers, all refrigerator drawers and combination refrigerator/freezer drawers. This development also opened up opportunities for the Kitchen Designer to place refrigeration in multiple locations within the kitchen. Refrigeration could now be easily placed on an island or a peninsula. Warming Drawers These appliances evolved from the lower drawer that was standard on free-standing ranges. Specifying one under the cooktop or near the dining table are great spots for this handy appliance. Cup Warming Drawers These cup warming drawers are ideally placed under the coffee maker to keep your expresso or latte cup warm, producing a coffee house experience every time. Dishwashers Dishwasher Drawers offer an ergonomic alternative to swing down doors – first introduced to the North American market by the New Zealand manufacturer Fisher & Paykel. A single dishwasher drawer in the beverage bar for easy glass washing is a good example. Microwaves one of the best drawer appliance introductions has been the microwave drawer. The microwave has always been a difficult appliance to place functionally and aesthetically in the Kitchen. The microwave company Sharpe was the first to introduce the microwave drawer. Held a design contest showing the microwave in a drawer. Vacuum Seal Drawers The newest appliance drawer introduction for the Kitchen is the Vacuum Seal Drawer.. A vacuum seal drawer is a chamber-style drawer that can do a variety of things. It can be used to better preserve frozen foods, it removes air to prepare for sous vide cooking and infuses flavors into proteins, vegetables, and oils. Appliance drawers are a trend that will continue for Kitchen Appliances. Consumers will not want to give up the convenience of sliding out a drawer to access appliances under the counter. Stock prices remain underpinned by (1) central banks commitment to near-zero interest rates, (2) a V-shape recovery in a number of sectors, and (3) a medical treatment for COVID-19. F&P Healthcare (FPH) has developed specialised expertise in heated humidification that forms the basis of its strong market position in the hospital and growing presence in homecare. It has progressively widened its addressable market through new applications which is a key driver of an attractive, long-term, double-digit profit growth outlook. The company is also benefiting from COVID-19 related demand, with some of its products recommended as a front-line therapy. However, FPH is one of the most expensive global medical device companies (growth-adjusted and absolute). While it is difficult to foresee a catalyst for a derating, particularly given near-term earnings momentum, we see better value for risk elsewhere. Second quarter 2020 results from Mainfreight's (MFT) key global peers highlight material decline in freight demand as a result of COVID-19, but resilient margins across most industry segments. MFT released its corresponding quarterly results at its Annual Shareholder Meeting on 30 July 2020, highlighting a stellar quarter, with revenue up +8% and pre-tax profit up +20% on the same period last year. Its superior performance in the context of broader industry profitability decline highlights its best-in-class characteristics and continued strong growth potential. MFT is trading at a one year forward PE of ~26x, a discount to its closest but significantly larger peers. Some shares are up by 100%. Good time to be a trader if you have deep pockets and know how to do it. Otherwise, you lose money so stay away if you don't have advanced skills. Now let's look at what's been happening as of the last week, the American market had the biggest one-day falls since June, caused by profit-taking after weeks of record-setting rises and further concern about the United States-China relations. Nasqaq down by 9% at one point. Investors moved money out of the tech stocks which could get hit the hardest from potential tariff increases. Because nearly one third of NZX investors are based overseas, the NZ stock market drop followed a sell-off in the US market, particularly in the tech stocks. However over the last week, share prices came through better than expected. It was still an ugly reporting season compared with previous years, but compared to expectations it wasn't too bad. As always, fund managers were seeking meaningful "outlook" statements as to how companies might do in the year ahead. For the most part, they came up empty-handed. Not a lot of businesses have got certainty. NZX 50 is down by 2% over the last week. Dividends, in these days of ultra-low interest rates, come into sharper focus. We have seen a lot of companies either reduce, or suspend dividends - companies you would usually see as reliable dividend payers. Do you think now is a good time to invest in any of the NZ tech stocks or should we stay away? Let me know in the comments below. PushPay and Fisher & Paykel were one of the biggest losers last week. F&P Healthcare has always been an "expensive" share — as characterised by a high price:earnings ratio (P/E) that in recent years has been around the 40:1 mark. Right now it's much higher: at the current share price of $35.70 and earnings per share (from the latest 2020 results) of $0.50, that means investors are paying a mammoth $71.40 for every $1 that F&P earns. There's a lot of good that F&P's management have done to create its growth momentum. But like everyone, the company is also susceptible to shocks (positive or negative) outside its control. Fisher & Paykel has benefited from the sudden unexpected demand for its products caused by a global pandemic that most would not have predicted a year ago. On the flip side, its investors may suffer in future should global economic growth resume and competition for funds pushes up interest rates (unlikely as that might seem right now). PERFORMANCE 29 June 2020 - Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited announced its results for the full year ended 31 March 2020. Operating revenue was $1.26 billion, up 18% over last year, or 14% in constant currency. Overview of key results for the 2020 financial year: - 37% growth in net profit after tax to a record $287.3 million. - 18% growth in operating revenue to a record $1.26 billion, 14% growth in constant currency. - 25% growth in Hospital operating revenue, 21% growth in constant currency. - 23% constant currency revenue growth for new applications consumables; i.e. products used in non-invasive ventilation, Optiflow nasal high flow therapy, and surgical applications, accounting for 64% of Hospital consumables revenue. - 9% growth in Homecare operating revenue, 4% growth in constant currency. - 4% growth in constant currency revenue in OSA masks. - Investment in R&D was 9% of revenue, or $118.5 million. - 15% increase in final dividend to 15.5 cps (2019: 13.5 cps). Excluding the impact from tax changes, being the R&D tax credit and building tax depreciation, net profit after tax grew 23% in constant currency. The increase in revenue was largely driven by growth in the use of the company's OptiflowTM nasal high flow therapy, demand for products to treat COVID-19 patients, and strong hospital hardware sales throughout the course of the year. "The 2020 financial year was already on track to deliver strong growth before the coronavirus impacted sales," said Managing Director and CEO Lewis Gradon. "Beginning in January, the demand for our respiratory humidifiers accelerated in a way that has been unprecedented."

Penelope Seidler is so accomplished, her list of professional achievements is almost impossible to summarise succinctly! She's an architect and an accountant, she's a member of the National Gallery of Australia Foundation Board, has been a director of Biennale of Sydney since 2010, and sits on the board of the Institute of Architects Foundation in Sydney. She was deputy commissioner for the Australian Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale, and has been a member of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1973. And in 2008, she was acknowledged as a Member of the Order of Australia. Despite these many accolades, many of us know her best as the wife and professional partner of Harry Seidler, and director of architectural firm Seidler and associates – which continues to operate to this day. It was truly an honour to meet Penelope, and a conversation that I certainly won't forget! I'm really glad we recorded it for you! Recorded at a LIVE event at Fisher & Paykel's Experience Centre in Sydney on July 5th, 2019. Find links and other show notes at https://thedesignfiles.net/podcast

Executive Chef Rob Wilson believes that "Food is love" and with that type of outlook, it's no wonder he was named "Chef of the Year" in 2008 by Chef Magazine. His culinary path has included serving as executive chef at Montage Laguna Beach and at the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach. Most recently, Rob pivoted into the role of Executive Chef at Fisher & Paykel and we discussed how mentors, hard work and building a successful team led to this opportunity. SPONSORED BY HDXMIX.COM

Dr. Jacquelyn Paykel, Director of Whole Health System at the Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics in Tampa, Florida, and Director of the THRIVE Program, reveals her grit in bringing ancient philosophies of care to meet the whole needs of veteran patients. Key Takeaways [5:11] Dr. Jacquelyn Paykel made herself over with introspection and self-compassion with four prongs: understanding herself and having self-compassion, understanding her veteran patients as part of the tribe, serving leaders by understanding their values, and understanding the VA’s organizational goals. [11:52] Jacquelyn’s training years were filled with the stress associated with terror. Stress can be productive depending on how you perceive it. Negative stress can cause damage. Positive stress can be healthy. If you exercise grit, you build confidence in yourself. [16:47] Early on, Jacquelyn collided with a medical practice’s traditional culture with her new ideas and agenda. This created tremendous stress and daily scrutiny due to the lack of trust. Her grit came into play when she was on notice every day for a year to perform under pressure. She learned that she wasn’t stuck. She could always change where she was and the way she behaved. It was a valuable lesson. [31:47] Dr. Jacquelyn Paykel is at the tip of the spear of changing minds and behaviors in a field that’s not known for changing quickly. Hold your uniqueness without displaying it. [36:51] Jacquelyn explains THRIVE, a multi-disciplinary 14-week program that brings veterans together in a standardized curriculum based on positive psychology, integrative medicine or understanding self, and acceptance and commitment therapy. In the 14 weeks, the veterans form a tribe and support each other. The teaching staff also learns how to teach again. [42:35] Leaders find value every day in their own work, model their passion for others, and then allow them to find what makes them tick to interact with the world in a valuable way. Email: Jacquelyn.Paykel@VA.Gov Twitter: @DrPaykel_OBGYN Facebook: @Dr.JacquelynPaykel LinkedIn: Jacquelyn Paykel Quotable Quotes “It’s in belonging — feeling like we belong — that we really can live our best life.” “Stress is a very significant aspect of my training years. … there’s a significant amount of stress even now … it’s a 24/7 job.” “If you don’t have barriers up, people will naturally migrate towards you to help.” You can change where you are and you can change the way you behave. And sometimes you have to change both. Hippocrates emphasized the natural aspects of medical care and doctors are getting back to that. “It really is about kind and compassionate care that will help these individuals heal. Each treatment has a placebo effect.” “What I needed to do was acclimate and people needed to acclimate to me.” When you move into a new situation, understand the environment and prove your worth to the people on the ground. “When people have confidence in you then you can do those creative processes and move forward from there.” “We as leaders generally find value in what we do every day ... but it’s our obligation to model that for other individuals.” Bio Dr. Jacquelyn Paykel is a gynecologist and integrative medicine physician who trained at the University of Wisconsin and completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine under the direction of Andrew Weil. She is a United States Navy Veteran. Dr. Paykel has practiced in private and academic settings since separating from the Navy but found her way back home with the Veterans Health Administration in 2014. Currently, she is the Director of Whole Health System at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Clinics in Tampa, Florida. She is also the Director of the THRIVE (Transforming Health and Resiliency through Integration of Values-based Experiences) Program, a novel health care approach that is based upon the tenets of Integrative Medicine, Positive Psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Books mentioned in this episode Wired to Eat: Turn Off Cravings, Rewire Your Appetite for Weight Loss, and Determine the Foods That Work for You, by Robb Wolf

In this episode I interview Stephanie Prather, co-founder of the Vegan Gastronomy Culinary Academy on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Vegan Gastronomy is a vegan cooking school that offers in-person training in the city of Palma, with a focus on teaching students to create healthy, delicious, sustainable, and economical vegan dishes. Through its Global Vegan program, it also takes its training on the road to other cities across the globe and has recently partnered with equipment maker Fisher & Paykel to offer classes in New York; Sydney, Australia; and more. Stephanie, who lived in Las Vegas for 20 years, has had a varied career, including selling mortgages to seniors, working at an LED lighting company and teaching children. Food has always been her passion and in 2013 she started Mallorca Vegan, a guide to the island's best restaurants, eco-farms, workshops and wellness facilities with a plant-based focus. After running short workshops in vegan cooking, she opened Vegan Gastronomy with Manuel Lynch to respond to consumer demand for more comprehensive training. Stephanie writes a weekly vegan column in a mainstream newspaper, the Majorca Daily Bulletin, covering new recipes, restaurant reviews and healthy food. In this interview Stephanie talks about: • Why she chose to run in-person trainings rather than online courses • What to take into account when running live trainings in a physical location • The importance of preselling courses to ensure you get a minimum number of students to cover your costs and make a profit • The importance of attending events and conferences to keep up to date with the latest information in your industry, particularly if you teach and train others • How to approach potential partners to collaborate with – and the key personal quality you need to muster to make this successful • How she got a column in a major daily newspaper and how this helped her business • And much more Visit the Vegan Gastronomy website Brands mentioned in vegan business news roundup: The Very Good Butchers Home Food Hall D'Addario Accessories RESOURCES: My Online PR Course for Vegan Business Owners & Entrepreneurs: Vegans in the Limelight My book Vegan Ventures: Start and Grow an Ethical Business Follow Vegan Business Media on: Facebook Twitter Instagram Connect with me personally at: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn

This week Balls Radio salutes the life of Senator Haradine, the Tasmanian independent who campaigned fiercely against porn and other things that involved having a good time. We also look to Canada, where porn is more acceptable so long as it meets the 35% local content quota. We ask what are the ingredients for a good Canadian porn movie? From New Zealand David Campbell reports on the missing Fisher and Paykel fridges – lost to the oceans they’ve been easier to spot than the Malaysian Airline jet. Richard Kazimer talks about changes to campaign fund ruling in the US – basically, wealthy individuals can donate as much as they like to their chosen party, so long as they don’t ask for favours in return. That would never happen, surely? Also, that Heartbleed loophole in online secure certificates – apparently, the US spy agency knew about it two years ago, but forgot to tell anyone. Finally Brian Haverty talks about Resurrection, the Channel 7 TV series that’s actually a remake of a far superior French show. He says it’s worth watching and warns you not to be dismissive of shows with subtitles. Perhaps we could do that – the first radio show with subtitles.
