Shauna Hylenski and her husband Bryan have been Longmont-based entrepreneurs since 2015, when they came to Colorado from South Korea. Bryan had there built a reputation as a world-class sport and mountain climber, and they came to represent a Korean climbing shoe manufacturer and built an import brand - HMH Outdoors. In 2017, they recruited their best friends, Mack and Heeran, and Shauna's big sister Heather and her husband Aaron, to come together to form the Climbing Collective, which opened in 2018. Today I'm joined by Aaron and Shauna to share the journey to this point, and the vision for the nearest years ahead. The Climbing Collective now consists of three major properties: 1. Longmont - State of the art, 25,000+ sq. ft. roped-wall, plus a bouldering gym, and yoga and fitness. 2. Loveland - former Wooden Mountain bouldering gym, recently and happily merged to be part of the Collective. 3. Greeley - former movie theater in downtown Greeley, currently owned by Climbing Collective and under redevelopment plan. These properties together, and with their members, represent the most comprehensive climbing community in Northern Colorado! This is a story of 3 couples, working together and letting it all hang out! Getting big bank loans to build leading edge climbing gyms, fostering community, and in 2024, they'll be opening their 3rd location and hosting the Ice Climbing Championship at their flagship location in Longmont. This was a super-fun conversation, and I learned a lot - and I know you'll enjoy getting to know - as I did - Shauna Hylenski and Aaron Tellier. Join a streamlined cast this week as Dags, Dave and Elio talk about Spurs' second successive league win against a newly-acquired Newcastle United side and a performance that probably paints a more promising picture than the scoreline suggests. Was this a product of Nuno's plan finally coming together, players syncing up and gathering fitness or will the same old problems resurface when we face stronger teams in the weeks to come? We take a look at our next opponents, an impressive and industrious West Ham side that will be desperate to beat us and discuss how we approach that challenge and of course how we can overcome it. Finally it's Elio vs Dave in a head-to-head 'Challenge Elio' to round of this week's slightly shorter episode. We're all delighted to finally be talking some positives about Spurs (yes, even Dave) so long may it continue! As always, we hope you enjoy and welcome any thoughts you may have.

Embark on a journey of 40 Plus Fitness with myself and Allan Misner. Allan is the host of the 40 Plus Fitness Podcast and author of his new book, The Wellness Roadmap: A Straightforward Guide to Health and Fitness after 40. If you take nothing else from this podcast, memorize this quote from Allan: “You are in control of you.” Did you know that there are more people who die each year from accidental falls than guns? Wow. I left this interview inspired to add a few new habits in my life that require no extra grit, self-discipline, or time. These simple habits might save my life as I age. Putting on my socks: When I put on my socks in the morning, I’ll do this standing up. This will give me a daily moment of balance practice. TV Time to Balance: When I watch TV, I’ll take the first few minutes to stand and practice balancing. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I’ll simply stand on one foot and then the other. Lengthen my walking stride: Allan has noticed that as we age our strides very slowly get shorter and shorter. I will remind myself to lengthen my walking stride just a little bit. If you are also inspired to try out any of these habits above, send me an email at lyn@couchtoactive.com. We can be sock buddies! Ha. Allan tells his story about how striving to perform in his corporate job turned him into a fat bastard and how he broke free and regained his fitness. But what Allan normally doesn’t share is his personal story about the give advice he would give to his younger self. The advice was to quit drinking. It was his decision to shift his focus to his health that in turn resulted in finding a fulfilled life. This inspired me to give myself a 6-week alcohol-free challenge. I want to see if completely cutting out alcohol for 6 weeks will help improve the chronic illnesses I struggle with. My guess is it will. My challenge is starting today and going through St. Patty’s Day. If you would like to also join me in the 6-weeks of no drinking, let me know at lyn@couchtoactive.com. If you are reading this after this challenge is past and you’d still like to try your own 6-week challenge, email me and let me know anyhow. I want to know how it’s going for you and what you experience. Let’s wish each other luck! Allan Misner has created a special page on his website for us. Check out his webpage below. Doctors have given some odd advice over the years… Take these for example: The Salisbury Steak Diet. People we told only to eat Salisbury steak to cure their sickness. The Tongue Patch Diet. A doctor will sew a plastic patch to your tongue making it excruciatingly painful to eat solid foods. Bicycle Face. Women were warned not to ride a bike because it would cause undesirable physical attributes such as a red puffy face and extended chin. The Spinning Chair. A study took participants and spun them in various directions with the goal of curing brain injuries and mental illness. Also on the show we discuss something called “Alien Yoga” and give a few fitness tips. More at: http://www.undertenfitness.com/
