Morning routines are everywhere—CEOs, athletes, and high performers swear by them. But musicians? Not so much. In this special guest solocast, Ryan Hurst of GMB Fitness shares his personal morning routine and the mindset behind it. Originally recorded when he was living in Osaka, this episode was previously only available to my private community. Now, I'm bringing it to the podcast because I believe these insights are just as valuable for musicians and creatives as they are for athletes and trainers. Ryan takes a grounded, holistic approach to training—his routine is about more than just movement; it's about setting the right tone for the day, staying consistent, and cultivating the right mindset. I've personally had a morning routine for over 10 years, and I can tell you—it's a game-changer, especially when you're constantly on the move. While I'm currently on tour, I've noticed how having even a loose framework helps me stay focused and energized despite time zones, deadlines, and performances. This episode isn't just about fitness—it's about how structure and routine can help you show up better in whatever you do. Links & Resources:

Jarlo Ilano is a martial artist, physical therapist, and entrepreneur. He is the Managing Director of GMB Fitness, and has been at the forefront of the 'alternative fitness' movement for over two decades. At the age of twelve, Jarlo found himself in karate classes at the local community center. As he grew, he explored more martial arts and fitness-related activities. After his parents encouraged him to pursue physical therapy, Jarlo began to see the potential of combining his own passions into a PT career. With the help of mentors, he eventually started GMB Fitness with partners Andy Fossett and Ryan Hurst. These guys are the "OG's" in this space, and have been at it longer than most. No hype. No nonsense claims. Just good, solid, progressive, well-balanced programs for all levels. Through the ups and downs of the business, Jarlo has stayed the course and found success in the industry, inspiring others to make meaningful changes in their lives to help them reach their goals. He states, "In terms of success, we always knew we wanted to change the way people look at what fitness means, what exercise means, and make it really meaningful to them, so that they can continue on, they can get better and not feel like they're just spinning their wheels. We can get better, we're getting older, but we're changing the goalposts. We're working towards what really matters for us, whether that's performing better at a particular sport or just . . .being a good overall person! That's [one of] our metrics for success. We see our clients saying, "I didn't think I'd be able to do this!" And they're doing it right! And they're going to keep doing it for years." In this episode, Pete and Jarlo discuss: 1. How to scale a business from 6-20+ employees and making the "hard decisions." 2. The advantages of physical therapy for fitness, performance, and overall well-being. 3. The importance of mentors and the value of mentorship for entrepreneurs in the health and fitness space. Click here to download transcript. Inside the Wolf’s Den an Entrepreneurial Journey with Shawn and Joni Wolfswinkel
In this week's fun episode, Shawn and Joni welcome the Inside the Wolf's Den Producers to the podcast to share their true story of entrepreneurial grit. Los Angeles-based filmmaker Dan McMellen sits down with his former business partner Brett Moses, Shawn and Joni's current Director of Marketing, to discuss the successful country music genre independent feature film project the duo spearheaded, wrote, and directed entitled Noble Things. Dan is an Emmy Award-winning television editor helping create such well-known shows as ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, NBC's The Steve Harvey Show, Discovery's Battlebots, and currently, America's Got Talent on NBC. Brett's early acting credits include a stint on the NBC soap opera Passions and Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the WB, Fox's Melrose Place, and popular national campaigns for Pace Picante Sauce and Nissan. The pair share their feelings about going “all-in” with devotion as they invested more than a decade of their lives and overcame tremendous trials and tribulations, creating this gritty independent film. The emotional charged movie stars Ryan Hurst, Michael Parks, Dominique Swain, and Lee Ann Womack. It was a “Top Critics' Pick” at the prestigious Austin Film Festival on its way to an extended run on Showtime and finally debuting on network television as Fox's “Movie of The Week.” The soundtrack for the country music-driven movie was produced by Clay Walker and included notable performances from favorites Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Byrd, Bo Bice, Dob Gray, Tracy Lawrence, and Zona Jones. Now, due to the popularity of the "cowboy" genre niche in today's film and television culture and pandemic-related content supply constraints, the feature film will soon enjoy a second life when it is rereleased on a major streaming platform. You probably stopped learning and practicing new physical skills sometime in early childhood – you crawled, you walked, you ran, you jumped… then what happened? If you're like most people, you sat down and started working. Imagine never doubting yourself physically. Always being up for activities as experiences present themselves. Waking up everyday without any worries about nagging pains or limitations. Instead, you feel anticipation for the possibility of fun and exploration in the day ahead. That feeling is what we call “physical autonomy,” and it's something you're probably striving for, whether you realize it or not. Physical autonomy comes from knowing you've built the attributes you need so that your body is fully prepared for the activities you care about, as well as the unknown. Dr. David and Dr.Nick sit down with Ryan Hurst one of the founders of GMB Fitness. GMB stands for Gold Medal Bodies. Meaning building the gold medal body you have always wanted. Imagine being free from pain, stiffness, and a lack of mobility and building more strength, flexibility, and control of the amazing body you've been given. GMB Fitness makes online training programs for people who have more important things to do than spend hours every day working out. Smart training and great support make it possible to build physical freedom and skill for the activities you enjoy most. Whether you want to move better, reduce pain and stiffness, or build more strength GMB gives you the tools to build a better body so that you can go out and enjoy life to the fullest.
