The Greenslander himself, Max Chandler-Mather joins Betoota Talks to discuss his unique brand of environmentalist class politics, and how it translates so well to suburban Queensland. At the 2022 election, MCM snatched the safe Labor electorate of Griffith in South Brisbane for the Greens - former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's old seat. He was joined by two more lower house MPs on the southside of the River City. These aren't inner-city leftie suburbs. What is Max doing differently to Labor and the Liberals? The 33-year-old Maverick unionist explains to The Betoota team just how succesful he is when it comes to winning over right-wing voters during his relentless door-knocking campaigns and community events.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There aren't many Australian bands who have sold 23 million copies of their albums. Cast your mind back to the late 90's, and a duo from Brisbane called Savage Garden. Darren Hayes was the angel-voiced frontman, and after putting out two hugely successful albums he went solo. Now many years later he's published a memoir titled Unlovable, and the story of his life as a little kid growing up in the South Brisbane suburbs, to becoming a worldwide pop star, and finally coming out, is one we've never heard like this before.Diana Ross - 'Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand)'Peter Gabriel - 'Love To Be Loved'Madonna - 'Mother And Father'Taylor Swift - 'exile [Ft. Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Services (CHQHHS) has empowered its workforce, young people, families and care partners to pursue innovative ways to minimise their environmental impact of our health care service. We have established an Environmental Stewardship Network, the ‘CHQ Green Team', which has grown to over 200 active members who work together to meet the targets set out in the CHQHHS Environmental Sustainability Plan 2021-2024. CHQ Green Team initiatives have resulted in emission reductions, improved energy efficiency and waste reduction at the Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH) in South Brisbane. This has established QCH as an international example for sustainable healthcare service delivery, both financially and environmentally. CHQ Green Team initiatives support local businesses and circular economy jobs while also shifting current practices and improving Queensland's environmental performance. CHQ showcases sustainable leadership that has successfully diverted 491 tonnes of waste from landfill and generated and saved over $580 000 in 2021/22. Our sustainability success story can be shared and adopted across other Queensland Health Hospitals and Health care services.

The Sunlight Centre was created in 2017 and began seeing its first client in October. Molto altro.ASCOLTA L'INTERVISTA! Two teenagers allegedly involved in a horrific crash that left a young girl fighting for life and a house on the verge of collapse have been linked to a crime spree across South Brisbane.  Pharmacists would diagnose and treat serious conditions like heart failure and asthma under a trial proposed by the Queensland Government and the “risky” plan has enraged the state's doctors.  Controversial religious discrimination laws have been all but shelved, as Prime Minister Scott Morrison lost control after five of his own MPs crossed the floor to back changes from an independent.  Queensland's covid peak was far less destructive than experts predicted, with new modelling revealing the overwhelming scale of hospitalisation and serious illness avoided.  For updates and breaking news throughout the day take out a subscription at couriermail.com.au. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lMnvaDCPQ0 We are often told to get the best capital growth we should buy the more premium and expensive suburbs and avoid the cheaper suburbs.People things suburbs are cheap for a reason and are going to stay cheap. But is this actually true? Do cheaper suburbs actually underperform compared to more expensive suburbs. (Property Data Dive) Transcription Ryan 0:00We're often told in order to get the best return on investment when buying property that we should buy the more expensive suburbs, the more premium suburbs with the idea being that people in the suburbs maybe have more money. And so I know property's going to grow faster. But what about cheap suburbs? People often think, okay, they're cheaper reason, and they're probably going to stay cheap. But is that actually true to cheap suburbs, underperformed compared to more expensive suburbs? Or is the opposite actually true? So today, I have with me, Jeremy Shepherd from select residential property to actually look through the data and to say, should we be investing in the more expensive suburbs? Or should we be investing in the cheapest other? So hey, Jeremy, thanks for coming on today. Jeremy 0:43Thanks for having me. Ryan 0:45Yeah, this one is really close to home at the moment, because I have saved my deposit, I'm looking to invest in the next few months, three to six months, and looking at different options in South Brisbane for me, but there's the cheapest suburbs, you know, kind of around $350,000 that I can get into with a lower deposit, or there's more expensive suburbs looking at 450 to 550, where obviously, I need a bigger deposit. And so I'm kind of arming an iron between the two. So it'll be interesting to go through this and to see, okay, what could be better? Jeremy 1:19Yeah, well, first of all, they don't underperform. So they're cheap for a reason is true. They are cheaper because they don't have all the nice things that the expensive suburbs have. But that doesn't mean that they underperform just being expensive, doesn't mean that you've had better capital growth. And I think that there's this mistake, mistaken belief that if a suburb is expensive, how did it get there, maybe it had better capital growth, but it's always been more expensive. And there's this correlation between proximity to CBD and higher prices for suburbs close to the CBD in the map, major capitals more expensive than the suburbs get. But they've always been like that they've always been more expensive. And as property investors were not interested in whether our properties is is cheaper, expensive, but whether it has a capital growth, that's the that's what we're after. Ryan 2:11And exactly right. Because let's say I'm going to invest a million dollars over the next couple of years into property or buy a million dollars worth of property, I could buy three for around, you know, $330,000 each, or buy two for 500,000, or one for a million. But what I hear at the end of the day is how much they go up in value. I don't care about the individual property price and its ROI. You know, I think one of the best videos we've done together is whether or not proximity to the CBD does correlate to higher capital growth.

The Dust Coda are one of those bands that may not be on your radar yet but with a listen to any of their singles will instantly climb to the top of your playlist. They are a perfect blending of hard blues and harder rock guaranteed to get your toes tapping while still subtly bludgeoning you into submission. With their second album Mojo Skyline set for release on March 26, frontman John Drake sat down with HEAVY to discuss the new album, and, more importantly, the fact he is actually an Aussie!"I am indeed,” he proclaimed proudly. “I was born in South Brisbane a long time ago (laughs)."With Mojo Skyline already spawning a string of hit singles, Drake continues by giving a musical overview of the upcoming album."Oh, man...Firstly I'm real proud of it,” he enthused.” We worked hard on it. I wanted to make a second album that took everything that we love about heavy rock and roll and had big choruses - which we love - but I also wanted to bring in more kind of melody and light and shade and I think we've done that. You've got these rockers like "Breakdown", "Demon" and "Limbo Man" that starts the album off, which is what we love, bang the fuck out of the guitars and then it moves into more melodic territory - which I also love. I'm influenced by Bryan Adams and guys like that so we wanted to, I guess, make a record like the albums we love. I love Superunknown by Soundgarden; I love all of the Gunners records and all of those records have so much variance in the music. It's not just smashing your head all the time, it's melodic as well, and the main thing for us is always making sure there's strong choruses and a good album's not a good album unless it has an epic, epic tune on it. The one on this album is the song called "Rolling" and that's the big fat beast which I fucken love (laughs).”In the full interview, John runs us through the album in greater detail, gives a history of The Dust Coda, talks about their sound and how it came about, discusses the order of the songs on the album and their importance, whether the three songs released are a good representation of the album as a whole, the album cover and it's meaning, signing to a label during COVID and different things the pandemic has made you consider and more.

With the coronavirus contained and lockdowns being eased in Australia attention is turning to the next state election in Queensland on October 31st where Labor Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is seeking a third term against the LNP Opposition led by Deb Frecklington. On this week's WilmsFront Qldpol expert Graham Young breaks down for us the policy issues and party politics that will shape this coming election. Graham is the founder and publisher of Online Opinion independent e-journal of Australian political and social debate. He is also the executive director of the Australian Institute for Progress, a Brisbane based free Market think tank. Annastacia Palaszczuk has had the lowest rise in approval ratings for any Premier during the pandemic. Some of the restrictions she has introduced continue to be in place such as the New South Wales-Queensland, the no-jab no-play policy for professional athletes in the state, plus her slowness in releasing the regions from lockdown could bite her on election day. The Palaszczuk Government since its election in 2015 reversed the public sector cuts under the last LNP Government under Campbell Newman. Other than growing the size of the public service it is largely do-nothing government, the state debt has increased and needs of rural and regional Queensland fall by the wayside. Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad recently stood aside pending a state Crime and Corruption Commission investigation. Trad is a powerful factional figure from the left of the Labor Party, she holds the inner-city seat of South Brisbane. Her influence was considered so toxic in the Palaszczuk Government and that two local trade union leaders pushed for her removal. Liberal National Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has built up a significant media profile but is still not cutting through with voters. Graham believes that the state LNP needs to better fight on culture war issues relevant to working-class people in the Brisbane city area and have a coherent campaign message and vision for the state. Despite the LNP's success at winning federal seats in Brisbane and controlling the city of Brisbane council at a state level it only holds four seats in Brisbane. Outside of the Gold and Sunshine Coast in Central and North Queensland they have to compete with the Katter Party and One Nation. The growing North-South divide in the state has seen a renewed push for a North Queensland state.  Contact: Email: me@timwilms.com Message: https://t.me/timwilms Wilms Front Links: Entropy: https://entropystream.live/app/wilmsfront Website: http://timwilms.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/wilmsfront Minds: https://www.minds.com/timwilms Gab: https://gab.com/timwilms Telegram: https://t.me/wilmsfront Rational Rise TV: https://rationalrise.tv/ Support the Show: Membership: http://www.theunshackled.net/membership Donate: https://www.theunshackled.net/donate/ Subscribestar: https://www.subscribestar.com/theunsh... Some of the regions that had the worst results in the CoreLogic pain and gain analysis reflected areas where there was a high concentration of investors or apartment stock sold. The Brisbane suburbs with the highest portion of loss making sales were: South Brisbane (64%) Hamilton (61%) Sherwood (55%) West end (50%) Fortitude Valley (42%) Shannon Davis from Image Property also commented on South Brisbane On the Gold Coast, there was a similar pattern of high concentrations of investor-owned, unit sales making losses at resale. However, the portions were not as severe. The highest portions of loss making sales on the Gold Coast were Biggera Waters (30%) Surfers Paradise (29%) Southport (26%) Labrador (20%) Broadbeach (20%) There was a high volume of sales in these suburbs in the quarter (708 sales between these suburbs), of the loss making sales: -          62% were investor-owned -          95% were units Brisbane’s most gain, there were 17 suburbs where 100% of property sales over the quarter made some kind of gain on the previous sale price. Here’s a selection based on the highest sales volumes: Mount Cotton (34 sales) Greenbank (31 sales) Bridgeman Downs (31 sales) Bray Park (28 sales) Mansfield (26 sales)  Amanda Waters from LJ Hooker Aspley/Bridgeman Downs also gave us an overview. John Parkes from Ray White Tugun also commented. In the broader regions of QLD, Townsville had the highest regional portion of loss-making sales at 38% in the September quarter Mackay - Isaac – Whitsunday region had 37% loss-making sales, but this was down from a peak of 48% in October 2016 Central qld saw 36% loss-making sales (down from a peak of 48% in June 2018) Sunshine Coast was the star of regional QLD, with 96% of sales making a profit.

We wear horn-rimmed glasses with a heavy duty lens, button down shirts and a pocket full of pens. That’s right the Nerds are back again with another episode that some may say is entertaining, a few might go so far as to describe it as educational, but it is Nerd operated and focused. This week we don’t have a fabulous show for you all, sorry, no it is in fact AWESOME!!! We have some absolutely mind blowing news that is as revolutionary as going from an 8 bit operating system to a 32 bit IBM back in the 70’s. First up Buck has news about the English finally realising that the areas around solar farms etc can actually be used as green space and help provide habitat for the endangered wildlife. We don’t mean the DJ after he gets a bit of static electricity from scuffing his feet in the wool carpet either. No, we mean birds and the like that some grotty people have destroyed the homes of. This sparks the discussion of how can we implement similar measures to improve society. Have you heard about the bladeless wind turbines? We have and even have a link, they are so cool and even more environmentally friendly. Next up is the Professor with child soldier. Oops, sorry, that is supposed to read Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the latest of the latest of the most recent up to date Modern Warfare – we think). Yep, if you are still wondering why the put in the Airport chapter in the other Modern warfare (don’t ask or we will look at you like a dog when you do something silly) we have something equally confronting, pointless and kind strange even. No not DJ either for those smarty pants who were going to say it. Nope, they have child soldiers in the latest instalment of, oh you get the drift. Well apparently some people are upset about it, surprise surprise surprise, you just put on the Robin Williams voice for that didn’t you. Well we talk about this and Mobile Suit Gundam, how do these topics link? Listen in, and find out. The next topic is about the Zoids franchise delivering a new manga series for us all to enjoy. That’s right folks, a new series to further expand your library, your mind, and lighten your wallet. We are still light on the details but hopefully it is going to maintain that high level of fun, entertainment and action that we all love. Now, for the Marvel fans we apologise (Buck says no we don’t); but, Batman is getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. That’s right, the caped crusader is being recognised and celebrated. The first Super hero to be so recognised, and it is DC first once again. This is part of our usual line up of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events. We hope you enjoy, take care of yourselves and look out for each other, remember to stay hydrated, catch you all next Bat time, on the same Bat channel.EPISODE NOTES:Solar Farms - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/07/solar-farms-to-create-natural-habitats-for-threatened-british-speciesCall of Duty modern warfare’s child soldier - https://www.greenmangaming.com/newsroom/2019/06/21/call-of-duty-modern-warfares-child-soldier-level-raises-eyebrows/Zoids franchise gets a new manga - https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-06-23/zoids-franchise-gets-new-manga-in-august/.148187Games currently playingProfessor– My Friend Pedro - https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/my-friend-pedro-switch/Buck– Assassin’s Creed 2 - https://store.steampowered.com/app/33230/Assassins_Creed_2_Deluxe_Edition/DJ– Mortal Kombat 11 - https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/mortal-kombat-11-ps4/Other topics discussed2016 South Australia Blackouts- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_South_Australian_blackoutBladeless wind turbinesPhoto- https://www.technologyreview.com/i/images/bladeless.turbinex392.jpg?sw=280Vortex Bladeless Turbine - https://vortexbladeless.com/Protest at South Brisbane- https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-27/brisbane-protestors-lock-themselves-together/11251358?WT.ac=localnews_brisbaneGerman nuclear power plants shutting down- https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-135922087 Years later, Fukushima is still leaking radioactive waste- https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/03/29/national/seven-years-radioactive-water-fukushima-plant-still-flowing-ocean-study-finds/Chernobyl (2019 HBO miniseries)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_(miniseries)Off with the Fairies (That’s not Canon Podcast)- https://thatsnotcanon.com/offwiththefairiesFamous Assassinations- Georgi Markov: Death by Ricin via umbrella - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgi_Markov- Alexander Litvinenko: Death by radioactive polonium-210 poisoning - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Litvinenko- Other famous assassinations - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/06/poisoned-umbrellas-and-polonium-russian-linked-uk-deathsNo Russian (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 mission)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_RussianSpec Ops: The Line’s new feature- https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-09-spec-ops-the-line-lets-you-shoot-unarmed-civilians-angry-mobsSongs of a War Boy by Deng Adut- https://www.amazon.com.au/Songs-War-Boy-bestselling-biography-ebook/dp/B01HDL3LI6Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (Mecha anime series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam:_Iron-Blooded_OrphansFirst impressions of 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by Dean Takahashi- https://venturebeat.com/2019/05/30/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-impressions-taking-war-in-a-frightening-direction/Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 no single campaign- https://www.polygon.com/2018/5/18/17366980/call-of-duty-black-ops-4-no-single-player-campaignEA calls loot boxes “surprise mechanics”- https://www.pcgamer.com/au/ea-calls-loot-boxes-surprise-mechanics-and-compares-them-to-kinder-eggs/Zoids (Franchise)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZoidsZoids anime series in chronological order- Zoids: Chaotic Century (1999 anime series) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoids:_Chaotic_Century- Zoids: New Century (2001 anime series) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoids:_New_CenturyInternet Chat ProgramsIRC (Internet Chat Relay) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_ChatICQ - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICQDial up internet- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dial-up_Internet_accessNapster (file sharing program)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NapsterChris Hemsworth gets a Hollywood star- https://metro.co.uk/2019/06/21/chris-hemsworth-scores-himself-a-star-on-the-hollywood-walk-of-fame-10023662/R.I.P Bryan Marshall (1938 – 2019)- Bio - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Marshall- Captain Talbot (007 character played by Bryan Marshall) - https://jamesbond.fandom.com/wiki/Commander_TalbotCriminal penguins narrated by David Attenborough- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M--8devfaaAShoutouts21 Jun 2019 - BATMAN Finally Gets a Star on HOLLYWOOD Walk of Fame - https://www.newsarama.com/45714-batman-finally-gets-a-star-on-hollywood-walk-of-fame.html24 Jun 2019 – 30 Years since Australia First Connected To The Internet - https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2019/06/30-years-since-australia-first-connected-to-the-internet-weve-come-a-long-way/25 Jun 2019 – 10 years since Michael Jackson died - https://news.yahoo.com/looking-back-michael-jacksons-legacy-195632565.htmlRemembrances25 Jun 1997 - Jacques Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water. Whilst the talking heads of the ALP like Van Badham and Wayne Swan argue over if the Hawke-Keating government was mainly excellent with a few flaws or really excellent with none, Liz’s ground breaking work on the Accord shows how the latter was the central plank of the implementation of neo-liberalism in Australia and the method of delivering an epoch defining defeat to the working class and the decomposition of our power. Not one for pointless pessimism Liz also gives us some key insights from this history that can help us recompose a viable anticapitalist project today. Liz’s work can be found at:   An Integral State  Left Flank How Labour Made Neoliberalism (with Damien Cahill)   And we take umbrage at these confused musings of and about Australian Laborism: Australian Labor led centre-left parties into neoliberalism. Anne Summers is an author, journalist, editor, publisher and columnist. The fact that I need to use five adjectives to accurately describe her role in Australian writing culture speaks volumes about Anne's impact, influence and ability. To my knowledge, she is the first guest of Penmanship to appear on an Australian postage stamp, as part of a series celebrating Australian legends in 2011. Her career began with the publication of an ambitious and controversial book named Damned Whores and God's Police in 1975. Anne has written eight books so far, but it's the updated 2016 edition of that first title which brings her to Brisbane in late April for an event at Avid Reader bookstore. Before the 40th anniversary book launch at Avid, I met Anne at her hotel room in South Brisbane for a conversation which touches on how she became a contributing writer to Australian newspapers and radio while still a child; the difficult and lengthy process of writing Damned Whores and God's Police; how she made the transition from journalism to working for a prime minister – twice! – in 1983 and 1992; what makes a great magazine profile, and how she decided to launch her online magazine Anne Summers Reports after a disagreement with an editor at a major Australian magazine. Dr Anne Summers AO is a best-selling author and journalist with a long career in politics, the media, business and the non-government sector in Australia, Europe and the United States. She is author of eight books, including the classic Damned Whores and God’s Police, first published in 1975. This bestseller was updated in 1994 and, again, in 2002 and stayed continuously in print until 2008. A new edition was published on International Women’s Day 2016. In 1975 she became a journalist, first on The National Times, then in 1979 was appointed Canberra bureau chief for the Australian Financial Review and then the paper’s North American editor. In 1987 in New York she was editor-in-chief of Ms. – America’s landmark feminist magazine – and the following year, with business partner Sandra Yates bought Ms. and Sassy magazines in the second only women-led management buyout in US corporate history. In November 2012 she began publishing Anne Summers Reports, a lavish free digital magazine that promises to be ‘Sane, Factual, Relevant’ and which reports on politics, social issues, art, architecture and other subjects not covered adequately by the mainstream media. In September 2013, Anne launched her series of Anne Summers Conversations events with former prime minister Julia Gillard in front of a packed Sydney Opera House. In 1989 she was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for her services to journalism and to women. In 2011, along with three other women, Anne was honoured as an Australian Legend with her image placed on a postage stamp.
