On this week's episode Phillip is joined once again by A.C. Nicholas to discuss 1971's spaghetti western that goes by many names; Deep West AKA Guns For Dollars AKA They Call Me Hallelujah. This was a fun movie and the guys had fun watching it. Phillip starts the show by giving the general information for the movie with a some trivia sprinkled in. It's then time for Listener Opinions from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Phillip and A.C. then discuss all the cool things in this movie. Then A.C. gives his user guide to Spaghetti Westerns. (It's a good list so write it down.) They then answer the question of whether they noticed anything in the movie that Tarantino might have liked or used in a film. It's then time to individually rate the movie. Phillip and A.C. then talk about whether they would buy this movie, rent it, or find it for free. Then Phillip gives his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; From Darkness To Light (2024) (4 stars). A.C. gives a recommendation of a movie that a friend of his made, Left One Alive (2024). This is an Encore Presentation of my December 2022 interview with Bruce Belland of The Four Preps, America's first boy band. Their 1958 million selling hit “26 Miles Across The Sea” made them into international pop stars. The song influenced Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and inspired Jimmy Buffett. The Preps were featured on the Ed Sullivan Show and had a recurring role in “Ozzie And Harriet”. They even co-starred in the movie “Gidget” with Sandra Dee. In total they had 8 Gold Singles and 3 Gold Albums. Bruce talks about his fascinating life in the entertainment business including his date with Nancy Sinatra. My featured song is “Around The Horn” from the Made In New York album by my band, Project Grand Slam. This is an Encore Presentation of my May 2024 SAXOPHONE SUMMIT featuring four of the world's best saxophone players.John Helliwell, former member of Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. They dominated the charts in the 1970s with their album “Breakfast In America” which sold over 20 million copies. Fred Lipsius, the saxophonist and an arranger for Blood Sweat & Tears, another one of the greatest bands of the modern era, which introduced the horn section into Rock ‘n Roll. Their self-titled second album won the Grammy for Record Of The Year in 1970. Fred arranged several of their biggest hits including “Spinning Wheel” and “Hi De Ho”. Bob Reynolds, the saxophonist for Snarky Puppy, one of the great bands of this era They are a Jazz Fusion band that's won 5 Grammys. And Ada Rovatti, an Italian born saxophonist who has performed with Aretha Franklin, Joe Bonamassa, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock and The Brecker Brothers Reunion Band.My featured song is “Metro Shuffle”, featuring Mindi Abair, from the album The PGS Experience by my band Project Grand Slam. After Leone completed his dollars / Man with no name trilogy, he vowed to leave the western genre alone, until he was given the chance to make a movie with his favorite actor of all time, Henry Fonda. Paul Muldoon is a Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet. He's won several other awards too including the Shakespeare Prize. He's the author of 15 collections of poetry. He's the Editor of the 2021 two-volume treatise called “The Lyrics: 1956 To The Present”, that he wrote together with Sir Paul McCartney. It covers 154 of Paul's songs with the Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist. Mona Golabek is an author, actress and Grammy Nominated concert pianist. She has an important and touching Holocaust related story. It's about her mother, Lisa Jura, at the time a 14 year old pianist living with her family in Vienna, who escaped from the Nazis to England via the Kindertransport program. Mona has written a book about this called “The Children of Willesden Lane”. She subsequently adapted it into a stage version which played in New York, London and elsewhere, starring Mona and for which she received several Best Actress nominations. Later still Mona created a foundation which has brought her mother's story to over 10 million students and communities around the world. In addition to all this, Mona is a Grammy nominated pianist and the subject of several documentaries including “Concert For Mona” with Zubin Mehta. My featured song is “Ma Petite Fleur”.
