Welcome to "ALI Shorts," where we delve into the Agile landscape, navigating its complexities to unearth valuable insights. In this episode, we're setting our sights on user-story mapping, a potent tool for Agile teams.Traditional product development often feels like a dense forest of business documents, lacking a clear route. But fear not, user-story mapping is the Agile team's GPS through this wilderness. It offers a lightweight alternative to chart a digital product's interactions, akin to a GPS guiding through uncharted terrain.User-story mapping, also known as story maps, operates as our GPS in the Agile wilderness. This lean UX-mapping method employs sticky notes and sketches to plot the course users take within a digital product.Much like a GPS segments a journey, a user-story map segments a product's journey into activities, steps, and details. These represent high-level tasks, subtasks, and the nitty-gritty interactions, respectively. In the Agile world, user stories are our navigation waypoints. They describe features or tasks from the user's perspective, aiding efficient navigation. User-story mapping transforms these waypoints into a navigational route, allowing teams to discuss and elaborate on them, eventually adding them to the product backlog.Creating a user-story map is akin to planning a group road trip, a collaborative effort essential to ensure a smooth journey. It's about establishing context and constructing the map using physical or digital tools, assigning distinct colors for visual clarity.User-story mapping vs. customer-journey mapping offers distinct perspectives, focusing on the product and user, respectively. While they complement each other, they serve different navigational purposes, enabling Agile teams to choose the right tool for their specific journey. With user-story maps as our reliable GPS, we can embark on our Agile journey with confidence. They improve collaboration, aid backlog creation, guide minimum-viable-product slicing, and identify risky assumptions. User-story maps are the trusted GPS in the Agile wilderness, encouraging user-centered discussions and efficient prioritization.Thank you for joining us on this journey through the Agile landscape, exploring the power of user-story mapping. Just like a well-calibrated GPS, user-story mapping guides Agile teams through product development, ensuring a smooth and efficient journey. Until next time, keep mapping those stories and navigating towards success in the Agile wilderness. Stay Agile, stay innovative! Find us here: www.agileleanireland.org

Alfredo Ramirez is the Co-founder, President, and CEO of Vyopta, a company that transforms the way organizations deliver collaboration experiences by providing insights that improve user experiences, employee engagement, and business outcomes — they make virtual collaboration work. Alfredo is a seasoned entrepreneur with direct experience building early-stage software technology companies. Previously, Alfredo co-founded Vitalz (Oracle) and Daman Consulting. He also held positions at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) and Trilogy Software and was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Reddwerks (Dematic). He has a bachelor's in electrical and computer engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. In this episode… As a leader of an organization, you define the goals you aim to achieve and decide on what strategies and plans to execute to achieve those goals. You also have to think about the possible challenges and obstacles you may face and find the right employees and partners to join you on that journey. However, sometimes the go-to-market strategies you start with may not ultimately take you in the right direction. As they built Vyopta, this is where Alfredo Ramirez and his two co-founders found themselves. Rather than continuing with the business model they started with, they pivoted in a new direction to keep the business profitable and sustainable. They phased out the legacy client branches of the company and concentrated on the one product performance software application that was most in demand. Later they found themselves in the throws of the pandemic and had to pivot again. Throughout the course of the business, the founders found themselves in multiple disruption situations but always found ways to adapt. In this episode of the Skunkworks Podcast, Eric Bourget interviews Alfredo Ramirez, the Co-founder, President, and CEO of Vyopta, about the strategies he uses to stay agile around product-market fit for his company. Alfredo also talks about his revenue model, the major redesign of his platform, and the effects of the pandemic on the company.

This episode features an interview with Len Fischer, Senior Vice President of Demand Generation at Okta.Len leads the team responsible for creating and accelerating Okta’s pipeline through campaign management, field marketing, partner marketing, and digital marketing efforts. Prior to Okta, Len was Executive VP of Marketing at BDNA, and held key leadership roles in marketing and sales at Informatica. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University. On this episode, Len shares how he and his team at Okta strive to be different, how his demand gen strategy changes over time, the person who he says can get him fired the quickest, and some of the most clever and interesting demand gen initiatives he’s seen. Key TakeawaysPush the envelope on innovation with campaigns and demand gen initiativesIn SAAS, if you’re not focusing on customer marketing, customer success, and customer programs, you’re not going to be in business for long Remember that sales is marketing’s customer, and in demand gen, the Head of Sales can probably get you fired faster than anyone else canQuotes“There's a big portion of my demand strategy that will change over time as the company evolves and changes. You have to be able to partner with not only sales, but the other functions within marketing in order to be effective. Think about demand over personalization, digitalization, and integration, and if those three themes carry through, you'll have a successful demand motion.”“The person that can get me fired the quickest is the Head of Sales. So if the Head of Sales does not think I'm doing the job, regardless of if [the CMO] thinks I'm doing the job, that's the quickest way for me to get fired.”“Not everything in marketing will work. That's the other thing that I've learned over the years. And what doesn't work typically will teach you more lessons than what does work. So as long as you're willing to think about why it didn't work and what kind of changes you would do next time, I think there's value in it, regardless of how much pipeline you get.”“I'm a big believer that these experiential things really work, but I would rather do a few of them and go to the big events–go to the Final Four, go to The Masters…We want to be different, so if everybody has access to a Laker game or a Warriors game or a Giants game, then what difference is it? But if we're going to the World Series, then sure, let's talk about it.”“Fight for your team because they'll fight for you…Bring the right people in and set them up for success. This is a very collaborative position and you have to work with a lot of different people, but ultimately I think if you bring the right people in and you set them up properly, [and] you fight for them with the rest of the organization on what we can do and what we can't do, it typically will work in your favor.”SponsorDemand Gen Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com, the #1 Conversational Marketing platform for companies that use Salesforce and the secret weapon for Demand Gen pros. How has Facebook Advertising Changed During COVID and Further Through Q4 At The Budai Media, we specialize in retention marketing, but on this episode of The Ecom Show, we get a chance to sit down with an expert in customer acquisition! Just in time for Black Friday, we've got the scoop from Arthur Freydin, the CEO and Owner of BASIC Creative. This impressive Facebook & Instagram Ad agency offers ROI Driven Social Media Advertising for ecommerce brands, with in-house creatives for their clients and comprehensive ad strategies to scale them up. Take a seat and have a listen while The Budai Media founder Daniel and this week's podcast guest Arthur take on lots of topics and answer your questions about: ✔️ How to cope with Facebook Ad shutdowns and account bans ✔️ Latest trends for Creatives ✔️ What niches are perfect for Facebook and Instagrams Ads and which ones aren't ✔️ Tools, apps, and automation for ad creation ✔️ Social media advertisements in Q4 Know the Difference Don't fret if you've ever had your Facebook Ads account shutdown. “It's practically a right of passage” for ad agencies, according to Arthur! It's essential to understand the distinction between having your account shut down vs. banned, with the latter of the two far more severe (and harder to come back from). Regardless of what happens, it's normally Facebook's mistake 9/10 times, and there is a way to reinstate your account in most instances. Facebook's customer service is not very helpful or responsive, but there are ways around even an account ban (if Facebook doesn't like your company, business model, or product). Creating the Perfect Creative It's part of Arthur and his company's job to stay ahead of the latest trends in creatives, and he notes that in 2020 video ads have taken a back seat to static images and GIFs. He mentions that 2020 has been a very dynamic year, with new trends surfacing each month. Between the elections in the US and the COVID-19 pandemic, different brands have thrived and suffered at different times of the year depending on lockdowns, shutdowns, and other current events. The key takeaway is that every brand has different things that work for them, so it's important to test everything! Is Social Media Advertising Right for You? It's really not for everyone, and Arthur will be the first to tell you that certain stuff simply won't work on Facebook, like CBD oil or firearms. Even if your product doesn't violate Facebook's terms, you will find that heavily commoditized items won't ever perform well on Facebook because these sorts of ads work differently than Google Ads. On Instagram or Facebook, you disrupt the scrolling experience, so you have to keep it visually appealing and relative. Food, supplements, subscription boxes, and fashion; all of these things do quite well! The best tools for ad creation On the ad-running side, Arthur prefers to keep it simple. You can't truly automate ads because the ever-changing Facebook algorithm is unforgiving. There are a few tools you can use, but Facebook normally buys them out and adds them to their backend anyway. On the creative side, BASIC Creative uses tools like Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, and VideoLeap. He even lets us in on the secret that all you need is a dependable phone and great lighting to get high-quality photos and videos for your creatives! Crushing in in Q4: Advice from the Experts Arthur isn't shy about giving his advice for Q4; it's the most crucial time of the year for him and his team too!The most important principle he preaches is: Stay Agile. Things are constantly changing throughout the year, and even more so during Q4, so you have to be alert and ready to switch it up at a moment's notice. Pre-approve your ads ahead of time, don't ever increase or decrease spending by more than 30% in one day, spend according to your previous day's revenue, and stay flexible with Follow Daniel Budai: Daniel's LinkedIn Daniel's Facebook Follow Arthur: Arthur's email BASIC Creative's website

The coronavirus global pandemic has fundamentally reshaped business, but one sector is feeling the tug in particular - sales. Today, the Sales Disruptors podcast takes a look at how sales departments can change and adapt in light of a shifting economy. Guest Edward Lang, Senior Manager of Sales Performance at Accenture, reveals his insights into how to move forward with confident footing in uncertain territory. Like businesses big and small, sales operations are struggling through similar challenges: the uncertainty of the future, retaining clients, retaining talent, and managing costs. But after weathering the 2008 economic downturn, Lang has some insight that can carry over to the current crisis. “The more we can help our clients weather this storm, the better we will be in the position for long term relationships,” he said. Helping clients can also mean helping yourself by taking the opportunity to streamline tools, implementation, and processes. Drive intent, drive meaning, and steer clear of gimmicks. Seize the opportunity to recruit top talent from competitors, recommended Lang. Shift payment streams and reward employees for tool sharpening. All of these tips trim the fat. Upon return, businesses should be “lean and hungry,” not starved and weak. Lang’s final words, however, are perhaps the best encouragement for uncertain times — “It’s going to be okay.” Markets will open up, albeit tentatively. Upon reopening there will certainly be a “new normal,” but sales will adapt and stay agile in an ever-changing market.

In this week's podcast we move on to the final Agile Principle, number 12: "At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective, then tunes and adjusts its behaviour accordingly." The hard truth is that learning is horrible. It means coming face to face with your own inadequacies, and challenging them. Consequently, mustering up the motivation to learn is too easily and too often avoided. Squirrel and Jeffrey discuss their own experiences with the importance of reflection and some troubleshooting techniques to make learning easier. They also discuss: -How we all need to keep sharpening the saw, because if we're constantly producing we're not learning. -Using Production Vs Production Capacity, from 7 Habits of Highly Influential People, to remind ourselves of this. -How Marginal Gains, just 1%-per-day, compound to make a huge difference over time. -How, unexpectedly, it is often something as simple as poor relationships that are blocking the natural learning a company would like to have. It's much easier to blame the circumstances than have difficult conversations, and this blocks development. Therefore, we have a challenge for our listeners: Look at your current circumstances, at what you think the problems are, reflect, and then ask yourself: what's currently preventing you from taking action on those problems (and that means YOU. You individually. Saying your boss is an idiot is not an answer). There are always opportunities available to you, should you choose to take them.
