In a compelling episode of the Muscles and Mindset Podcast, Dr. Ali Novitsky delves into the challenging topic of weight loss plateaus, with a specific focus on the impact of GLP-1 agonist use. This discussion is not limited to those using GLP-1 agonists but extends to anyone facing a weight loss plateau.   Rethinking Weight Loss Plateaus Dr. Novitsky begins by redefining weight loss plateaus, encouraging listeners to view them not as setbacks but as opportunities for reflection and adjustment in their weight loss journey. She outlines a plateau as a period where no weight change is observed for about six weeks, despite consistent efforts, emphasizing the body's adaptation process during this phase.   GLP-1 Agonists and Weight Management The episode highlights the role of GLP-1 agonists as one of the four pillars of obesity medicine, which also include nutrition, exercise, and mindset. Dr. Novitsky stresses that while GLP-1 agonists can significantly aid in weight loss, they should be integrated with the other three pillars for effective weight management.   Breaking Through Plateaus Strategies for overcoming plateaus are shared, with a special emphasis on the importance of maintaining or even increasing muscle mass. Dr. Novitsky discusses how muscle mass affects basal metabolic rate and how strength training and proper nutrition can help maintain muscle, thereby aiding in breaking through weight loss plateaus.   Importance of Nutrition and Exercise A strategic approach to nutrition and exercise is deemed crucial. Dr. Novitsky recommends an average protein intake and a regular strength training routine to maintain muscle mass without excessively increasing hunger.   The Impact of Mindset A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the mindset required for successful weight loss, including the importance of long-term commitment and aligning thoughts with weight loss goals. Dr. Novitsky also addresses the societal stigma and misconceptions surrounding the use of GLP-1 agonists for weight loss.   Webinar and Weight Loss Program Dr. Novitsky announces an upcoming webinar on April 19th, 2024 to further discuss the topics covered in the podcast and introduce the new GLP-1 Optimal Weight Loss Program. This program offers a comprehensive approach to tackle weight loss, starting May 1st, by working directly with obesity medicine physicians.   Episode Conclusion The episode provides a thorough examination of weight loss plateaus, particularly in the context of GLP-1 agonist use, offering insights into overcoming these hurdles by embracing plateaus and focusing on muscle maintenance. Dr. Novitsky invites listeners to share the episode and join the upcoming webinar for more in-depth information on optimizing weight loss with GLP-1 agonists. Listeners are encouraged to nurture both their muscles and mindset as they journey through their weight loss endeavors.   Takeaways Plateaus are a normal part of the weight loss journey and should be embraced. Maintaining or gaining muscle mass during plateaus can prevent a decrease in basal metabolic rate. The four pillars of obesity medicine are mindset, nutrition, exercise, and medication. Proper nutrition and strength training are essential for maintaining muscle mass. Plateaus can be an opportunity to reflect, make changes, and regain momentum.   Timestamps Introduction to the Muscles & Mindset Podcast: 00:00:00-00:00:11 Discussion on Weight Loss Plateaus: 00:00:19-00:00:30 Importance of Plateaus and Reflection: 00:00:30-00:01:03 Personal Anecdote and Softball Coaching: 00:01:14-00:01:45 Plateaus in General: 00:01:46-00:02:17 Science Behind Plateaus: 00:02:18-00:03:22 Definition of a Plateau: 00:03:22-00:04:03 Maintenance and Reverse Dieting: 00:04:03-00:05:52 Leptin Resistance and Weight Loss: 00:06:13-00:07:48 Discussion on GLP-1 Agonists: 00:07:49-00:11:58 Decision to Use GLP-1 Agonists: 00:11:58-00:12:19 GLP-1 Agonists as Tools: 00:12:08-00:13:02 Weight Loss Plateaus on GLP-1 Agonists: 00:13:02-00:15:22 Maintaining Muscle Mass: 00:15:22-00:18:33 Nutrition and Strength Training: 00:18:34-00:19:57 GLP-1 Program Details: 00:20:08-00:21:52 Nutrition Audits and Reevaluation: 00:23:28-00:24:22 Upcoming Webinar and Program Details: 00:24:33-00:25:27   Resources Optimizing GLP-1 Weight Loss Program. In summary, endomorph game should be adapted toward building value through social fearlessness, humor, deep rapport and savvy group set management. Endomorphs will rarely get AMOG'ed because they are so friendly and sincere – and lacking in threatening mesomorphic musculature – that they put other men at ease. Once endos are welcomed into a group, which usually happens quickly, they have to avoid the temptation to be a group plaything, and instead to focus on separating the target from her friends.

Today I am talking about how to transform your body based on which of the three different body types you are most like. Without taking this into consideration you could be spinning your wheels following a fitness program that is based on a completely body type from yours. In fact, did you know that the vast majority of weight loss and fitness research is based on 25-year-old men? It's no wonder a lot of these one-approach fits all programs don't work for most people! In recent years, I have seen more programs advertising that they customize the program to your body. Yet, when you get int there, you find it isn't really what you'd think based on the advertising. For example, they will have everyone follow the same workouts, the same nutrition approach, or both. Someone who struggles to gain weight and wants to transform their body to gain some muscle and shape will need a very different approach from someone who wants to lose body fat and tone their physique. So, today I am discussing the best approaches for each of the three somatotypes. In this episode I am covering: Re-cap on the three somatotypes Body Transformation for Ectomorph. Body Transformation for Mesomorph. Body Transformation for Endomorph.

Just this week, the FDA is deciding whether or not milk alternatives (like Oat Milk and Almond Milk) are allowed to be called “milk”, even though they don't come from an udder. Regardless of what their decision ends up being, you probably only care about whether or not you should be drinking these milk alternatives in the first place. Podcast listener Amanda recently sent me this question: “I'm wondering about whether or not I should be adding non-dairy milk to my smoothies. I can't do dairy at all, and so I've been substituting with oat milk. But I've wondered if oat milk is actually a carb that I shouldn't be having. Should I count that toward a workout or does it not count because it's in a different form?” In this shortie episode, I provide tips on exactly how to deal with the carbs in milk alternatives, insulin sensitivity, and why this even matters based on your goals. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Brittany: Hi Dr. Cabral. Thank you for all that you do and the information you provide, it has been incredibly helpful in my healing journey. Wondering if there is any connection between hemorrhoids and candida or other gut bacterial overgrowth? Especially in women who have had a history with antibiotics from an early age, 10+ years of birth control pill use, and poor (refined carbohydrate/sugar) diet? I'm learning that poor liver function doesn't allow for proper filtration for various bodily functions and it dawned on me that there might be a connection between the two. Thanks for any insight or knowledge on this. Thanks!   Nikki: Would you have any ideas on why my toenails have a strong amber/orange tint to them? (I take DNS/vit D/vit C/cell boost/daily hair/magnesium/adrenal soothe/thyroid support) Thanks   Rob: Hi Dr Stephen j heard your interview in Hay Ferrugia podcast and was wondering where j can get more informed and info on managing and advice on my endomorph body soma type in order to break metabolic and hormone issues to turn myself into a more of a fat burner Cheers   Damian: Hi Dr Cabral. Thank you for everything you do. I am 25 years old and live in the UK. I recently lost my dad and have suffered from central nervous system fatigue for over a year and a half. I have my diet dialled in - vegetables, healthy fats, fish etc, only walk as more causes greater fatigue and heart palpates and body shaking, I use a sauna daily and practise calming rituals like meditation. However I feel like my body is broken and do not know what else I can do. Doctors don't seem to want to help me and I am struggling to live my life. Thank you, Damian   Shannon: Hi Dr Cabral. I'm starting week 2 of my 21 day detox. I'm struggling with the food list, as a lot of the foods listed are inflammatory causing (beans, lentils, hummus, asparagus,celery,garlic,shallot/onion,beets,snow peas, mushrooms,Brussels sprouts, artichoke, cauliflower, etc). I'm really confused how this detox is supposed to help people who have gut issues? Before starting the detox I had been following the FODMAP diet, eliminating all foods that cause inflammation. I felt relief and improvements, but also needed to go deeper with my healing. Now I'm incorporating all those foods back into my diet. My stomach is more bloated, gassy and I'm experiencing diarrhea. I thought perhaps the diarrhea was part of the detox? My sleep only improved on the 2 fasted days during the 1st week of detox. I'm still fatigued, not feeling any gut relief or losing weight. I'm not currently taking any supplements, only the shakes and detox pills. I've done your Candida/Metabolic, Minerals/Metals, Omega-3/Inflammation tests but I'm waiting for my results. I thought I'd get a jump start on detoxing and was planning on starting the CBO protocol after. I'm starting to question if I should stop this detox? Please share your thoughts and if this is normal? Thank you so much.   Maria: Hello and thank you for all that you do. I am really enjoying listening to your podcast and I'm also a member at equal life. I can really use some help with supporting my children's health. I have two girls who just turned six and seven. And they are constantly getting sick of something. It seems like every 3 weeks or so they have something new. Whether it's a cough, a cold, the stomach flu and so on. It's very frustrating. I feel like I do all the right things which is give them vitamins, make sure they're drinking enough water, make sure they're eating healthy food, getting outside, being active. But unfortunately they still get sick very frequently. Can you give me any recommendations as to what things I can do and should be doing for them and anything that you would suggest that I would add additionally.   Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2368 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? This week it's just little old me again and because it's almost the end of the year, and it's been a while since I've done one of these, I'm clearing up health and fitness myths.First I go over the idea of somato-types (body-types such as ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph) and whether that affects your diet and training. Has the idea of body-types really been debunked, as some claim?Do you "need to make sure you get protein with every meal"? And what exactly does that actually mean? 5oz of beef or chicken, as some people recommend?Should you have breakfast every day to "kickstart your metabolism"?Should you, or should you not, have carbs later in the day? What about "boosting your immune system" by taking certain supplements? And is a 30-minute brisk walk really enough exercise to keep you healthy? No in the news this week as there really wasn't that much being reported, but I do talk a bit about the next few episodes.Remember to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the competitions, wisdom and cute videos. Coming from a broken home with a single mom raising him and his brother, life was hard for his family and when he found fitness it became his escape. Training begins with body types, which of the 3 are you? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, focus on your body type to begin with. At 21 with the help of his wrestling coach, Dimitri was able to compete in his first show and he won. From there he worked in fitness clubs, good and bad ones, mostly bad ones, he saw where they could improve and how to improve. With the guidance of a mentor, Dimitri left the corporate life, and he took a chance and went on his own and built Pure Motivation Fitness, that was 15 years ago.Dimitri discusses customizing your fitness goals to your body type and truly understand why he is going to suggest eating habits, exercise techniques, weight training to suit your body. Dimitri wants to be your coach; everyone needs a coach to make sure you are held accountable to your health and fitness goals. 3 Key principles, Mindset, Training and Nutrition last.Dimitri isn't here to preach, he's here to help you change your life for the better, loosing body fat adds years of extra life. It's simply about taking bad habits and placing good habits in front of it, that is how you slowly change your day-to-day events, such as smoking. Accept, Acknowledge and Advance, 3 counts of accountability. Tim Lyons once taught Dimitri, “embrace the suck” Covid happened, and he had to embrace the suck to get over it.Dimitri shares some great insight into the medical industry and how to handle your doctor, your injuries, and avoiding pharmaceutical assistance. Here in Canada, we have the right to ask for a 2nd or 3rd and we have the right to ask for ultrasounds, x-rays and MRI's, we need to see what the problem is so we can figure out the best course of action because a pill may not always be best option for you. Dimitri pulls out the calculator and shows you how you can calculate the potential to have a heart attack or stroke based on your current state of resting heart rate, this will open you eyes wide. Dimitri has done an amazing job motivating, educating and empowering people and now it's time for Tradespeople to take back their lives.Shared and Discussed linkshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Herbert_Sheldonhttps://www.synviscone.ca/clinics/dr-anthony-(tony)-galea-ism-health-wellness-centre?i=17&culture=enhttps://www.poliquinstore.com/articleshttps://www.wimhofmethod.com/breathing-exercisesCheck out his app on Apple and AndroidWhat an amazing show full of truth, pain, fitness, health, exercises and more, I thank you so much Dimitri for sharing so much on your life for our construction lives, educating our listeners on everything to do with your body, mind and soul. WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 25: Genetics and Your Genes We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS GENETICS?  Genetics is the study of genes and the variation of characteristics that are influenced by genes—including physical and psychological characteristics. All human traits, from one's height to one's fear of heights, are driven by a complex interplay between the expression of inherited genes and feedback from the environment. 2. HOW ARE YOUR GENETICS DETERMINED?  Through GENES you get from your mom and dad. A gene is the basic unit through which genetic information is stored and passed between generations. Physically, a gene is a specific section of one of the long, double-helix-shaped DNA molecules that appear in each cell of the body. The genome is the entirety of the genetic material contained in an individual. Human DNA is estimated to contain between 20,000 and 25,000 genes. The vast majority of each person's genome is identical to that of the next person, but the portion that differs is consequential for how individuals develop. 3. WHAT DO YOUR GENETICS TELL YOU?  In addition to visible traits like weight and eye color, psychological qualities such as personality traits (such as being extroverted and being agreeable), intelligence, risk of mental illness, and many others are to some extent influenced by genetics. Genes do not account for all of the differences between people on these characteristics, but research indicates that they have a substantial impact. Body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph 4. ARE YOU BOUND BY YOUR GENETICS OR CAN THEY BE INFLUENCED?  To some extent you are bound. Traits you are born with... you can alter them chemically or surgically, but your GENES are the same. There are many ways that you can influence your genes and how they express themselves. - Epigenetics: Epigenetics is the study of how the environment and other factors can change the way that genes are expressed.  Nutrigenomics - Nutrigenomics aims to identify the effects that the nutrients, in your food or natural compounds, have on the function and expression of the genes in your body. Join us for Episode 26 where we will be talking more on Epigenetics and how you can take more control of the effects it is having on your genetics. Coming full circle in our body typing series, we finally come to the Endomorph. An Endomorph is naturally more broad and thick than the other body types, even at their absolute fittest. They excel at powerlifting and weightlifting in general, usually dominating the other body types at Olympic lifting competitions and even the Crossfit games. But the Endomorph has some metabolic challenges to overcome to be their healthiest and fittest self.  On this episode, you're going to learn all about: Insulin response and carb tolerance, Why we end up with Ecto's and Meso's thinking they're an Endo instead,  Healthy vs. Unhealthy Endomorphs,  How to train and eat in order to "prime the fat-burning pump",  And why you might not need to know your exact body type to see real results.  At the end of this episode, we'll be answering these questions from some listeners: "What if I don't know what my type is, but I do have some goals...what should I do?"  "Is somatotyping similar to blood typing for fat loss?"  "Can I still see results and have success if I don't eat and train perfectly for my body type?"  Resources from this episode:  Psalm 139:14 (Downloadable!) Is a how-to guide for living your best life with the body you were born with. But Phil is not just a wealth of knowledge for getting your body right, but his story is very inspiring. Phil is a childhood cancer survivor and lost his father to cancer when he was young. What's more, is that his brother also developed cancer which he later beat.  This life experience shaped his life and his purpose.  Now, Phil is a massive resource for hacking training and nutrition for the three body-types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph.  In this episode we cover: •Three body types we’re born into…goes even into our bone structure. •How veganism, keto, paleo, IF, OMAD technically could work for all three, but it’s going to be much much harder if your body type isn’t aligned with it and your goals. •The importance of finding the right dietary approach for you body type and lifestyle without becoming the friend that everyone hates because you’re constantly talking about food. •How doing anything, the right way, for 2-3 weeks should show results, especially when it comes to eating and exercising correctly for your body types. •Spend 2 weeks to count macros to establish a better awareness of what balanced macros looks like •Phil’s prescription for resetting your metabolism BASED on your body type,  24 hour water fast, IF for 1 week then adjust your intake for goals….gain muscle, lose weight…etc. Enjoy!

Welcome to our first Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! Here are today's community questions: Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral I've heard you talk a little about body types and wondered how much this affects what each type eats and how they are supposed to exercise. Could you give a brief overview of each of those different body types (Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph) and how to tell which one I might be as well as the best exercise and foods for each type? Also, How does your blood type affect the way you breakdown food and should eat? Thanks - Jen   Josie: Hi Doc, I bought the parasite and candida cleanse, but decided to be safe and do the h. Pylori treatment first. My questions are: Should I follow the healthy gut guide (for the candida) for the entire cleanse? Also, I'm noticing that I'm having bloating after eating meats (specifically fish and eggs). You mentioned Great Lakes collagen protein powder and I'm wondering if I can use it during these cleanses.   Steph B: Hello Doctor! Thank you so much for EVERYTHING you do! I recently left you a 5 star review on iTunes! I try to listen to your podcasts every day, but if I can't, I save them up and "binge" listen to them! I'm very grateful to you. In April of 2016, my best-friend suffered a severe concussion. She was in the middle of moving to a new home and while cleaning a small crawlspace, her husband came up behind her and startled her. She raised up with much vigor (eek...!) and slammed her head against the top of the crawl space. She has had brain scans and other tests run, and all come up with nothing. They have told her that here is no cure for concussion. Chiropractor visits & acupuncture treatments have helped, but her headaches flare with stress & activity, heat, wine, and even certain sounds. She's miserable most of the time and some days she cannot even get out of bed. She is a married mother of three young children, and not even 40 years-old. She recently confided in me that sometimes she feels like her life is over. My heart was broken. I looked through your prior podcasts, but didn't see anything about concussions. Please doctor, any advice, or suggestions for my friend?   Jodi: Hi Dr Cabral, Thanks for creating such wonderful podcasts. They have been fun, interesting and helpful. My question is about bulging knuckles. In 2013 I noticed the knuckles on both hands on my pointer fingers were enlarged. In 2014 I saw a hand specialist and surgeon to determine what was happening thinking they could remove what I thought was an enlargement of my knuckle bone. I was told I had thumb CMC arthritis (Basel joint arthritis) and there is nothing they could do. I had no pain at the time of my appointment but now over the years I am experiencing some pain when I hold things in my hands for an extended amount of time and my knuckles are getting larger. My hands do tingle and ache occasionally when I'm just sitting. I will be 60 in September, I am a whole foods lean eater, and I exercise 4-5 days a week. In my 20-30's I was a body builder (not to compete) but now I lift light weights to stay fit a couple times a week for my arms. I don't have any pain when I exercise or type at work. I have done your 7 day detox and now I have your daily nutritional shake every morning, and I follow the detox meal protocol for lunch and dinner. Super simple to do. I do have an occasional glass or two of wine on the weekends. My once beautiful hands are getting quite gnarly and the area between my thumb and pointer finger is starting to sink in. All of my other knuckles are normal. Is there anything I can do to stop or reverse this or put it in remission? Should I stop exercising, get a different angled keyboard, take supplements, check with a different Dr for surgery? I hope you can help. Thank you.   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm going to be starting your 21 Day Detox this weekend to hopefully clear up some acne that I've been experiencing for about 4 months now. I ordered your Food Sensitivity Test, in hopes that I could complete this before starting the cleanse; however, I just learned that the shipping facility is awaiting the next shipment of test kits, so it won't be delivered until the end of next week. I'm deciding to start the cleanse before receiving the kit. Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed with this testing, after completing the detox? I have some unexplained acne that I'm working to clear up and I don't want to go back to eating any foods that I may be allergic to, and linked to my acne, for the sake of testing just to be back at square one, as it is suggested to eat a variety of foods before taking the test. Thank you so much! Thank you for tuning in and I look forward to answering more of our community questions tomorrow! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/568 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

But the good thing about know your body type is learning how to love it and work with what you have. Every body type is beautiful, it's just a matter of acknowledging it, embracing it, and feeling good about who you are." - Devon Dionne on embracing our body type.   Check Out Our Batch Cooking Show! It's a great way to prepare for the week by making nutritious, delicious meals in advance. In fact, this food should last you around 3-4 days!   How to Eat For Your Body: What's Your Body Type? Every single one of us has a different body which also means we have different diets, physical ability, and capabilities to reach heal goals at different rates. Today on the show, Devon and I are going to share with you what it means to be one of the three body types (ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph) plus what it means if you a mix of two body types.   The Ectomorph Body Type The ectomorph body type is extremely lean with little fat or muscle. A person who has an ectomorph body can easily and continuously stay in this state of being lean and thin because they have a fast metabolism and are able to burn carbohydrates very fast. Because we associate thin with healthy, an ectomorph might think that they're automatically healthy because of their size and they can eat and do whatever they want. It can be very easy for them to ignore they're health and body because of the false idea that they're healthy. Just like other people, ectomorphs should avoid excess amounts of sugar and processed foods so that they can focus on following a nutritious diet. How Can An Ectomorph Gain Muscle? However, ectomorphs can struggle to put on muscle and gain weight even if they try very hard to do so. They're good at running because they genetically don't carry around a lot of muscle nor fat. Therefore, long amounts of cardio is easy for them. An ectomorph can gain muscle by lifting heavy weights in compound movements such as squats and dead lifts. These movements put the ectomorph body under enough tension and stress so that the body can adapt, react, and ultimately build muslce. An ectomorph that wants to build muscle should eat plenty of protein as well as carbs since the body burns them so fast. What to Avoid to Gain Muscle To be able continue to put on muscle, they should avoid doing a lot of cardio since it will just burn all of their energy.   The Mesomorph Body Type The Mesomorph body is athletic built with low to minimum body fat. They body responds quickly to stress and can grow muscle very quickly if they do HIIT workouts. They can drop weight quickly and naturally without putting in much effort at all. However, before they're naturally athletic, they could become bored with working out or don't see a need to hit the gym. If you have a Mesomorphic body and you physically look good, pay attention to what's going on inside. Keep track of your energy levels, nutrition, mood, sleep pattern, etc. Those can be key indicators that can tell you a lot about your current state of health. Keep Challenging Yourself To keep enjoying fitness, challenger yourself to new goals. Set a personal PR goal for a competition or make working out interesting by taking up a class. Train like an athlete because you already are one. Your body is meant for HIIT, cleans, jerks, Cross Fit, power moves, and timed challenges.   The Endomorph Body Type The Endomorph body type is a bit thick in build and can gain both muscle and weight easily. Some hold their weight in different body parts such as their shoulders, chests, buttocks, thighs, stomachs, or arms. To help stay in shape, long amounts of low-intensity cardio like taking a walk is good for you. However, what's even better is building muscle, When you build muscle, you can burn fat faster and continue to do so hours after your workout is complete.  Instead of eating processed foods and carbs such as pastas, breads, or grains, try to eat more vegetables. The Difference Between Strength Training and Building Muscle Mass (Hypertrophy) We often confuse strength training with hypertrophy and it's important to know the difference because hypertrophy is more beneficial for the Endomorph body type.  When you strength train, your goal every week is to get stronger with 3-4 simple moves like squats, dead lifts, cleans, jerks, chest press, military press. doing 5 sets of  3 reps with 2-3 minutes in between. When it comes to hypertrophy and building muscle mass, it's not about burning calories and gaining strength. To build muscle mass, do 3 sets of an exercise such as a chest press with 6-16 reps. Make sure that you eat enough to give your body the energy that it needs to lift weights.    How Often Should I Be Eating?   "There's a difference between knowing when you're hungry and when you're starving." - Rob Dionne   There's been a misconception that eating 5-6 meals every day or every 2-3 hours is what our body needs. However, Devon and I did the research and found this to be completely false.  People have said that eating 5-6 meals a day supposedly: Raises your metabolism Stops your hunger craves Helps with weight loss Keeps your blood sugar levels consistent Assists with keeping you out of starvation mode However, we didn't find proof that any of these were true. In fact, the latest research found all that all of these "benefits" don't actually happen and there were no changes in metabolism or weight loss. Listen from 33:00 to find out why 5-6 meals a day does not benefit our bodies. Listen to Your Body's Needs But if you need to snack between meals to help keep your energy up and your stomach satisfied, that's okay! We're just saying that you don't have to be eating all the time with 5-6 meals.  Sometimes when we're tired in the middle of the day, we'll just grab a cup of coffee when our body is actually telling us that it needs food! We may not get the stomach growls and pains, but if it's been 6 hours or so since you last ate, your body probably needs something in its system.    "If what you're doing is not working for you, ask yourself the question, 'Is it not working because I'm not doing this 100% or is it not working because this is the wrong thing for my body?'." You want to make sure you're not jumping ship too early on a program or style of eating because you're not seeing the exact results within a week. It helps to stick to it and try it out." - Rob Dionne   Join The Open Sky Fitness Podcast Group! That's right! This week Banes and I were inspired to talk about body shape in the depiction of figures in comics, inspired by some famous images from photographer Howard Schatz's 2002 book, Athlete. In it there are photos of many athletes who're at the peak of their sports and yet their bodyshapes are vastly different, subverting the idea of an "ideal" bodyshape or what it means to be a top athlete or even fit. too often bodyshapes in comics follow a very narrow range, not getting much past what we think of as the current popculture ideal. We all know that idealised model shape is a problem and yet we all still perpetuate it, most of the time you can only tell most "realistic" characters apart by their hairstyle or costume, especially in superhero comics. And that invents a second problem: the myth of the "normal" shaped body as opposed to the ideal- there IS no such thing as normal, and even the ideal is always changing throughout the ages. There's even a lot more to body shape than the famous categories: Mesomorph, Ectomorph, and Endomorph, or Skinny, Pear, Athletic, Hourglass and Apple. We also have a beif mention of how stylised characters (Sponge Bob, Calvin and Hobbes etc) are exaggerations of these shapes and differences.   Topics and Show Notes:   Featured comic: Onward  - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Onward/ Links: Some of the athlete photos here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2502477/Can-guess-sport-shape-Olympians-body.html and here - http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/howard-schatz-beverly-ornstein-athlete (The images, taken by photographer Howard Schatz for his 2002 book, Athlete) Bodyshape pics taken from here - http://bonytobombshell.com/the-scientific-reasons-why-some-women-are-naturally-skinny/ Typical DC superheros - http://s3.media.squarespace.com/production/465215/5366925/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/dc.jpg Typical Marvel superheroes - http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Marvel-Comics-Characters-Wallpaper-5120x3200-1024x640-e1388356472329.jpg Special thanks to: Gunwallace, guitar shaped musician - http://www.virtuallycomics.com Banes, mesomorphic muscleman - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/Banes/ kawaiidaigakusei, hourglass shaped featurer - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/kawaiidaigakusei/   The theme song by Gunwallace this week was for: YOUR CHOICE  http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/YOUR_CHOICE/ - by VinoMas

Tonight we will speak on Endomorph. B.     Endomorph o   The endomorph body type is solid and generally soft. Endomorphs gain fat very easily. Endo’s are usually of a shorter build with thick arms and legs. Muscles are strong, especially the upper legs. Endomorphs find they are naturally strong in leg exercises like the squat. o   Traits §  Soft and round body §  Gains muscle and fat very easily §  Is generally short §  "Stocky" build §  Round physique §  Finds it hard to lose fat §  Slow metabolism §  Muscles not so well defined ·         When it comes to training endomorphs find it very easy to gain weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight is fat not muscle. To keep fat gain to a minimum, endomorphs must always train cardio as well as weights. ·         Endomorphic bodybuilders need to get their butts to the gym as often as they can ·         One or two cardio days should also be included throughout the week. ·         The exercises that an endomorph selects for their workouts need to be compound, high-intensity exercises. Exercises with the maximum amount of muscle recruitment, such as squats, increase potent muscle-building hormones significantly. Plan your workout around these basic movements, with isolation exercises after stabilizer muscles have been exhausted.   o   Source: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph.html o   Source: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/best_endomorph_workout.htm   C.      Health Grilling This Summer! o   More veggies – We don’t eat a lot of veggies bottom line in America. § Many different types of vegetables have a wide array of antioxidants and health benefits. § Orange veggies like carrots, orange bell peppers and sweet potatoes contain high amounts of vitamin A and C which promote a strong immune system, healthy skin and good vision. o   Meats – Go on the leaner cuts of meats for calorie intake. § Fattier cuts of meat include prime rib, chicken thighs, BBQ ribs, sausage and hotdogs. These are higher in calories and should be limited to special occasions. § Chicken breast is a nice grilling option since it is low in calories and is a great source of muscle building protein. o   Portion size – Keep size of what is being eaten in mind. § Try to portion out your plate with this simple rule: ½ salad and veggies, ¼ lean protein (like chicken, fish or a burger),¼ of either fruit (like fruit salad or watermelon), starchy veggies (potato or pasta salad) or whole grain bread (like a hamburger roll). o   Source: http://www.jccns.org/fired-up-healthy-cooking-on-the-grill-this-summer/           3.     E-Mails/Phone Calls: A.      From: Dee @All Comment: I just wanted to congratulate Snowheart, (or Terra), on embracing his inner otter. Remember Terra, teasing is an act of affection. Never let it go too far and turn hurtful. Always be ready to say sorry, kiss and make-up. A thousand welcomes, new ottah!   B.      From: FirePlatypus @Syn Question: What are the major issues you have when working out? Do you favor weights vs cardio the most? Why?   C.      From: FoxyKitty @Beastly Question: When you go to the gym do you try to bike when you go to get cardio out it or do you mostly do cardio at the gym?   D.     From: Platypus-Down Under @All Question: What is the hardest problem with trying to keep to your goals?   E.      From: Tibortiger @All Question: Yeah, winter is over, I'm cutting weight - how low should I go?  BMI is bull shit, when should I stop with the caloric restriction?
