In a compelling episode of the Muscles and Mindset Podcast, Dr. Ali Novitsky delves into the challenging topic of weight loss plateaus, with a specific focus on the impact of GLP-1 agonist use. This discussion is not limited to those using GLP-1 agonists but extends to anyone facing a weight loss plateau.   Rethinking Weight Loss Plateaus Dr. Novitsky begins by redefining weight loss plateaus, encouraging listeners to view them not as setbacks but as opportunities for reflection and adjustment in their weight loss journey. She outlines a plateau as a period where no weight change is observed for about six weeks, despite consistent efforts, emphasizing the body's adaptation process during this phase.   GLP-1 Agonists and Weight Management The episode highlights the role of GLP-1 agonists as one of the four pillars of obesity medicine, which also include nutrition, exercise, and mindset. Dr. Novitsky stresses that while GLP-1 agonists can significantly aid in weight loss, they should be integrated with the other three pillars for effective weight management.   Breaking Through Plateaus Strategies for overcoming plateaus are shared, with a special emphasis on the importance of maintaining or even increasing muscle mass. Dr. Novitsky discusses how muscle mass affects basal metabolic rate and how strength training and proper nutrition can help maintain muscle, thereby aiding in breaking through weight loss plateaus.   Importance of Nutrition and Exercise A strategic approach to nutrition and exercise is deemed crucial. Dr. Novitsky recommends an average protein intake and a regular strength training routine to maintain muscle mass without excessively increasing hunger.   The Impact of Mindset A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the mindset required for successful weight loss, including the importance of long-term commitment and aligning thoughts with weight loss goals. Dr. Novitsky also addresses the societal stigma and misconceptions surrounding the use of GLP-1 agonists for weight loss.   Webinar and Weight Loss Program Dr. Novitsky announces an upcoming webinar on April 19th, 2024 to further discuss the topics covered in the podcast and introduce the new GLP-1 Optimal Weight Loss Program. This program offers a comprehensive approach to tackle weight loss, starting May 1st, by working directly with obesity medicine physicians.   Episode Conclusion The episode provides a thorough examination of weight loss plateaus, particularly in the context of GLP-1 agonist use, offering insights into overcoming these hurdles by embracing plateaus and focusing on muscle maintenance. Dr. Novitsky invites listeners to share the episode and join the upcoming webinar for more in-depth information on optimizing weight loss with GLP-1 agonists. Listeners are encouraged to nurture both their muscles and mindset as they journey through their weight loss endeavors.   Takeaways Plateaus are a normal part of the weight loss journey and should be embraced. Maintaining or gaining muscle mass during plateaus can prevent a decrease in basal metabolic rate. The four pillars of obesity medicine are mindset, nutrition, exercise, and medication. Proper nutrition and strength training are essential for maintaining muscle mass. Plateaus can be an opportunity to reflect, make changes, and regain momentum.   Timestamps Introduction to the Muscles & Mindset Podcast: 00:00:00-00:00:11 Discussion on Weight Loss Plateaus: 00:00:19-00:00:30 Importance of Plateaus and Reflection: 00:00:30-00:01:03 Personal Anecdote and Softball Coaching: 00:01:14-00:01:45 Plateaus in General: 00:01:46-00:02:17 Science Behind Plateaus: 00:02:18-00:03:22 Definition of a Plateau: 00:03:22-00:04:03 Maintenance and Reverse Dieting: 00:04:03-00:05:52 Leptin Resistance and Weight Loss: 00:06:13-00:07:48 Discussion on GLP-1 Agonists: 00:07:49-00:11:58 Decision to Use GLP-1 Agonists: 00:11:58-00:12:19 GLP-1 Agonists as Tools: 00:12:08-00:13:02 Weight Loss Plateaus on GLP-1 Agonists: 00:13:02-00:15:22 Maintaining Muscle Mass: 00:15:22-00:18:33 Nutrition and Strength Training: 00:18:34-00:19:57 GLP-1 Program Details: 00:20:08-00:21:52 Nutrition Audits and Reevaluation: 00:23:28-00:24:22 Upcoming Webinar and Program Details: 00:24:33-00:25:27   Resources Optimizing GLP-1 Weight Loss Program. The mesomorph is your classic aloof, asshole alpha male. He's not trying to be an inconsiderate jerk - well, not always - he just is... Because the mesomorph is a man of occasionally thoughtless action, direct game will be his bread and butter... Mesomorphs' love for action and escalation means that they are often bad at calibrating women's receptiveness. The classic meso is the gung-ho military man who misreads a woman's interest and bungles the pickup by being too aggressive and obstinate... A mesomorph has to train himself to be better at reading women's signals, and to be more refined at the art of manipulative pullbacks. He's got the body language and the physical escalation nailed down; now he needs to work on his empathy and developing an attitude of scarcity to complement his transparent, take-charge approach mentality.

Today I am talking about how to transform your body based on which of the three different body types you are most like. Without taking this into consideration you could be spinning your wheels following a fitness program that is based on a completely body type from yours. In fact, did you know that the vast majority of weight loss and fitness research is based on 25-year-old men? It's no wonder a lot of these one-approach fits all programs don't work for most people! In recent years, I have seen more programs advertising that they customize the program to your body. Yet, when you get int there, you find it isn't really what you'd think based on the advertising. For example, they will have everyone follow the same workouts, the same nutrition approach, or both. Someone who struggles to gain weight and wants to transform their body to gain some muscle and shape will need a very different approach from someone who wants to lose body fat and tone their physique. So, today I am discussing the best approaches for each of the three somatotypes. In this episode I am covering: Re-cap on the three somatotypes Body Transformation for Ectomorph. Body Transformation for Mesomorph. Body Transformation for Endomorph.

Just this week, the FDA is deciding whether or not milk alternatives (like Oat Milk and Almond Milk) are allowed to be called “milk”, even though they don't come from an udder. Regardless of what their decision ends up being, you probably only care about whether or not you should be drinking these milk alternatives in the first place. Podcast listener Amanda recently sent me this question: “I'm wondering about whether or not I should be adding non-dairy milk to my smoothies. I can't do dairy at all, and so I've been substituting with oat milk. But I've wondered if oat milk is actually a carb that I shouldn't be having. Should I count that toward a workout or does it not count because it's in a different form?” In this shortie episode, I provide tips on exactly how to deal with the carbs in milk alternatives, insulin sensitivity, and why this even matters based on your goals. This week it's just little old me again and because it's almost the end of the year, and it's been a while since I've done one of these, I'm clearing up health and fitness myths.First I go over the idea of somato-types (body-types such as ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph) and whether that affects your diet and training. Has the idea of body-types really been debunked, as some claim?Do you "need to make sure you get protein with every meal"? And what exactly does that actually mean? 5oz of beef or chicken, as some people recommend?Should you have breakfast every day to "kickstart your metabolism"?Should you, or should you not, have carbs later in the day? What about "boosting your immune system" by taking certain supplements? And is a 30-minute brisk walk really enough exercise to keep you healthy? No in the news this week as there really wasn't that much being reported, but I do talk a bit about the next few episodes.Remember to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the competitions, wisdom and cute videos. Training begins with body types, which of the 3 are you? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, focus on your body type to begin with. At 21 with the help of his wrestling coach, Dimitri was able to compete in his first show and he won. From there he worked in fitness clubs, good and bad ones, mostly bad ones, he saw where they could improve and how to improve. With the guidance of a mentor, Dimitri left the corporate life, and he took a chance and went on his own and built Pure Motivation Fitness, that was 15 years ago.Dimitri discusses customizing your fitness goals to your body type and truly understand why he is going to suggest eating habits, exercise techniques, weight training to suit your body. Dimitri wants to be your coach; everyone needs a coach to make sure you are held accountable to your health and fitness goals. 3 Key principles, Mindset, Training and Nutrition last.Dimitri isn't here to preach, he's here to help you change your life for the better, loosing body fat adds years of extra life. It's simply about taking bad habits and placing good habits in front of it, that is how you slowly change your day-to-day events, such as smoking. Accept, Acknowledge and Advance, 3 counts of accountability. Tim Lyons once taught Dimitri, “embrace the suck” Covid happened, and he had to embrace the suck to get over it.Dimitri shares some great insight into the medical industry and how to handle your doctor, your injuries, and avoiding pharmaceutical assistance. Here in Canada, we have the right to ask for a 2nd or 3rd and we have the right to ask for ultrasounds, x-rays and MRI's, we need to see what the problem is so we can figure out the best course of action because a pill may not always be best option for you. Dimitri pulls out the calculator and shows you how you can calculate the potential to have a heart attack or stroke based on your current state of resting heart rate, this will open you eyes wide. Dimitri has done an amazing job motivating, educating and empowering people and now it's time for Tradespeople to take back their lives.Shared and Discussed linkshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Herbert_Sheldonhttps://www.synviscone.ca/clinics/dr-anthony-(tony)-galea-ism-health-wellness-centre?i=17&culture=enhttps://www.poliquinstore.com/articleshttps://www.wimhofmethod.com/breathing-exercisesCheck out his app on Apple and AndroidWhat an amazing show full of truth, pain, fitness, health, exercises and more, I thank you so much Dimitri for sharing so much on your life for our construction lives, educating our listeners on everything to do with your body, mind and soul. Progress will sometimes come easy and sometimes will come difficult. No matter what scenario you're in, progress can still be achieved. The more education you have about YOUR OWN body, the better control you will have in understanding why you're: losing weight, gaining weight, not progressing, ect. You are born with a specific genetic make up. This is why you stand the way you stand, or walk the way you walk. This is also why others are naturally stronger or can build muscle faster. But just because you are genetically given a way of life, does not mean you don't have the power to change it! The 3 Key Takeaways: The three body types are: ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph How understanding your body type will help you achieve your goals faster How to go against your genetic make up and still get the progress you want no matter what your body type is   If you have any questions you want answered or wanting to talk to me directly, head over to: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/ask Check out all our partnerships: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/Partnerships Flex Pro Meals: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ : Code/ TrainHard to save 20% OFF Host: https://www.instagram.com/matthew_fitness_trainer/ Athletic Beings Training & Apparel: www.athleticbeings.com / www.athleticbeingstraining.com Podcast Website: www.trainhardlivestrong.com/podcast LiquidIV: Liquidiv.com / Code: TrainHard / Save 25% off your entire purchase FNX Fit: https://fnx.grsm.io/TrainHard / Code:Trainhard / Save 15% off your entire purchase Flex Pro Meals / 20% off your 1st order / Code: TrainHard: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/MatthewFitnessTrainer Train with Coach Matt Anywhere: www.EliteHIITPerformance.com

WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 25: Genetics and Your Genes We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS GENETICS?  Genetics is the study of genes and the variation of characteristics that are influenced by genes—including physical and psychological characteristics. All human traits, from one's height to one's fear of heights, are driven by a complex interplay between the expression of inherited genes and feedback from the environment. 2. HOW ARE YOUR GENETICS DETERMINED?  Through GENES you get from your mom and dad. A gene is the basic unit through which genetic information is stored and passed between generations. Physically, a gene is a specific section of one of the long, double-helix-shaped DNA molecules that appear in each cell of the body. The genome is the entirety of the genetic material contained in an individual. Human DNA is estimated to contain between 20,000 and 25,000 genes. The vast majority of each person's genome is identical to that of the next person, but the portion that differs is consequential for how individuals develop. 3. WHAT DO YOUR GENETICS TELL YOU?  In addition to visible traits like weight and eye color, psychological qualities such as personality traits (such as being extroverted and being agreeable), intelligence, risk of mental illness, and many others are to some extent influenced by genetics. Genes do not account for all of the differences between people on these characteristics, but research indicates that they have a substantial impact. Body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph 4. ARE YOU BOUND BY YOUR GENETICS OR CAN THEY BE INFLUENCED?  To some extent you are bound. Traits you are born with... you can alter them chemically or surgically, but your GENES are the same. There are many ways that you can influence your genes and how they express themselves. - Epigenetics: Epigenetics is the study of how the environment and other factors can change the way that genes are expressed.  Nutrigenomics - Nutrigenomics aims to identify the effects that the nutrients, in your food or natural compounds, have on the function and expression of the genes in your body. Join us for Episode 26 where we will be talking more on Epigenetics and how you can take more control of the effects it is having on your genetics. [Most Popular Re-Release!] I remember being called "man arms" in high school. I had a square, boyish figure, and was naturally athletic. But it never felt feminine, and I spent a large portion of my life trying to train and eat my muscles away. Until I found out God designed me as a mesomorph.  A Mesomorph is naturally muscular and compact. Think of soccer players, bodybuilders and sprinters. They pack on muscle easily, have a relatively easy time controlling body fat levels, have a medium to large bone structure and tend to be naturally strong. When they slim down, their muscles really “pop”.  On today's episode we'll talk about: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Meso's Why some meso's falsely assume they're an Endomorph The one nutrition component that can be manipulated to maximize a meso's body Training styles that meso's truly excel at The aspect of fitness that meso's should never neglect The ecto-meso hybrid and the endo-meso hybrid My hope with uncovering and learning the different body types is that as you learn the specific ways that we’ve all been created uniquely, you’ll learn to love your own body more…for its strengths and specific abilities. Build Your Army podcast, episode number two. In the last episode, we talked about brainstorming your business and there is a workbook that I prepared for you that you can claim for free at buildyourarmy.com. Just go ahead and visit buildyourarmy.com and claim your free workbook that'll help you go through these steps that we're discussing now, how to brainstorm and target your audience, and come up with positioning, and deliver your business automatically to your customers. Head on over to buildyourarmy.com, claim your free workbook. I just ask that you help me pay for shipping, but that is it. Now, in this episode we are talking about targeting. Once you've brainstormed your business, choose one business that you're gonna move forward with. Only one. And I know it's a difficult decision to make, but the reason you have to choose one is because you're probably working full-time already.  You don't have a lot of time to start one business, let alone multiple. You've gotta narrow it down to one. And if you already are in business, and you're expanding, you also only have time to choose one. Even though you might have endless amounts of ideas, which is a good problem to have, choose one. And if you can, combine a few into one if you have to. For example, myself. I was thinking about podcasting but podcasting on its own is not a business, it's a marketing method. You can have ancillary revenue with advertising, and sponsorships and things like that, but you don't start and say, "I'm gonna start a podcast business." You have to have another business, something that you're selling, another product or service that you're selling. And you use the podcast as a delivery method of marketing to your audience. Just like an influencer. Just saying you're an influencer isn't the entire picture. You could be a YouTuber but what are you selling on YouTube? If you're just doing videos, the income isn't really quite there, but if you're redirecting to a membership area, for example, or a course that you're selling and then you monetize that, you use YouTube as the delivery of your message and your marketing but your product is on your website. How to choose the person you're gonna target. I'll use a personal trainer or a makeup artist as examples again. But let's say you are a personal trainer. Who are you a personal trainer for? It's just not enough these days to just say, "I am a personal trainer." If I were a personal trainer, I would target body types. Mesomorph, ectomorph, I forgot what they all are, but everybody has a specific body type. If you become an expert in that body type, then you could say, "I am a personal trainer for mesomorph body types," for example. 'Cause there's one that gains muscle easily but loses it poorly, or skinny and has a hard time getting muscle. So, if you're looking for clients to bulk up, you can focus on those body types. If you're a makeup artist for example, you can target people who are about to get married. Bridal parties, you're talking maybe eight people at once instead of one person. Get your face bridal ready and throw in a couple of bridesmaids, something like that. One other tip I like to use is, look at yourself as a target because your best client is a version of yourself, a few months or years behind where you are right now. For example, myself, personally, as a corporate employee looking to do some automated side hustles. I started to do it. I started to be a web designer for others and help them automate their business. And so basically, my target is a version of myself. Somebody looking for the same thing I was a year ago, and I went out, and put it together and created it. And now, I'm showing others to do virtually the same thing I did. I would be my target audience. A finance employee feels stuck, looking for more time freedom, and automation and replacing your current income. You want to nail your target audience down to their age range, their gender. Whether they're married,

As we continue to explore the uniqueness of our own individual body types, we come next to the Mesomorph Body Type. Unhealthy Meso's Why some meso's falsely assume they're an Endomorph The one nutrition component that can be manipulated to maximize a meso's body Training styles that meso's truly excel at The aspect of fitness that meso's should never neglect The ecto-meso hybrid and the endo-meso hybrid My hope with uncovering and learning the different body types is that as you learn the specific ways that we’ve all been created uniquely, that you’ll learn to love your own body more…for its strengths and specific abilities. Our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend is here featuring these amazing community questions! Nina: Dear Dr. Cabral, Thank you for the very reasonable, thorough, and integrated information on your podcast and website. I feel I have benefited tremendously from what I have learned from you and from some of your products. I am wondering if you have a take on the efficacy of "bioregulation therapy" (BRT) or "pulsed electromagnetic field therapy" (PEMF) and the devices that supposedly provide these treatments. (For instance: http://www.brtamerica.com/mobilewellnessultra.html) BRT has been recommended to me as a treatment that has a lot of research associated with it, but it does sound a bit like science fiction. (For instance: http://www.brtamerica.com/research.html) Some non essential background information about our situation: I have been listening to your podcast and interested in "alternative" therapies since early 2016 when I removed all my symptoms of psoriasis and autoimmunity through diet, lifestyle change and water fasting. Despite eating carefully and taking good care of myself since then, I am still dealing with some minor health complaints and would prefer to improve my situation before anything more serious develops. But my issues are minor compared to others in my immediate family, and I am primarily interested in the technology on their behalf. My husband and sons have a range of inflammatory conditions: chronic back pain, arthritis, IBS, severe allergies, eczema, ADHD, difficulty sleeping, severe irritability and all around cantankerousness. While they watched me heal the disgusting bleeding plaques that had covered much of my body and face through diet and entirely natural means, my spouse and sons don't want to change their food, medication or daily habits. Part of the problem is perhaps that they are too cranky, tired and pessimistic to consider change. (The other possibility is that they will always resist as I have become too annoying in my desire to help them improve their health) At any rate, I am hoping to find some sort of therapy that might gain us some ground so that we have the fortitude to eventually try other changes. Thanks so much for your time and kind assistance! Nina  Lisa: Appreciate you and your staff! Here are my questions: What are your thoughts on hydrotherapy? What might be the causes for tingling in legs or "jumpy" legs primarily at night but also occur when I'm getting a pedicure? Know that I'm celiac and follow a Palio low glycemic lifestyle with a healthy diet of mainly fruits and vegs, little dairy, rice and meat. Exercise 3-5 days a week with moderate strength training using weights and cardio using an elliptical or fast walking. Thanks!  Adalyn: Hi Dr. Cabral I just purchased your 21-day detox as well as your heavy metal detox. I have two questions. I am interested in what to eat after in order to stay healthy and feel my best. I've heard you talk a lot about ectomorph and endomorph body types and what works for their types as far as a good diet to follow, but I want to ask what you would suggest as a good diet plan guideline that works for a Mesomorph body type? My second question is, what would be a good workout for a Mesomorph body type to get ripped muscle definition? Dan: Hello! I am writing to you (due to the gf) about a pain I recently had. I went surfing the other day with a wetsuit, and when I got out of the water, I felt nauseous and then about 5 minutes after I had sever cramping in my head. It felt like the muscle around the skull was cramping around my forehead. Not like a throbbing headache, felt more muscular to me. The pain/cramping started in the middle of forehead and then seemed to wrap around to the sides. Lasted about an 1.5 hours. I massaged my head and it seems to dissapate. Have you heard of this, or is this something I should be worried about. What could have caused this? Thank you!  Jess: Hello! My husband has been complaing about heartburn on and off now for the past few months. Sore throat off and on. Also acid reflux pains. He has been taking baking soda, which seems to provide relief. Couple questions. 1. What causes heartburn? 2. does lemon water help heartburn? 3. He also has toe fungus that won't go away, connection? 4. how to prevent and what to do when it happens? Thank you so much for everything you do. We need to clone you! Anon: My husband believes he needs to eat meat for protein and iron. I told him this isn't so but of course he doesn't take my word for it. can you please set him straight, and also add top veggies/beans/grains with most protein. thank you! Nikki: Hi dr Cabral, Been recently introduced to your podcast and decided to look into your methods and try some. About two years ago I lost 100 pounds and now weigh around 150. Right after the weight loss I had onset anxiety and panic attacks so bad that I had to quit my job. I did a ton of research and couldn't find much of a real answer as to why I have it. After listening to your podcasts, I decided to try your detox system but the first shake I did I got super bad anxiety I'm thinking from all the minerals or nutrients in it? Any ideas? I drink homemade organic kefir daily with vegan one protein powder. I eat pretty much a paleo diet and consider myself decently active and in good health. Please help! All I want is this debilitating anxiety to go away and live a normal life. Any help would be really appreciated!! Love your podcast!! Claire: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have a question about tooth cavities and if they can be healed or at least stopped. My dentist says that I have a cavity on one of my wisdom teeth around the gum line. The tooth has grown in sideways on a 45 degree angle towards my cheek so the side with the cavity is hard to brush and often gets food stuck in the area. I've been diligent about cleaning it but I worry it's getting worse. My dentist says because of the angle he isn't able to get a drill back there to fill it and that if it does get worse I may have to have it removed, which I would like to avoid. Is there anything I can do to halt this progress diet or cleaning wise? What happens if I just leave the cavity to get worse rather than have the tooth removed; will it affect other teeth? Thank you for your help! Welcome to our first Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! Here are today's community questions: Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral I've heard you talk a little about body types and wondered how much this affects what each type eats and how they are supposed to exercise. Could you give a brief overview of each of those different body types (Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph) and how to tell which one I might be as well as the best exercise and foods for each type? Also, How does your blood type affect the way you breakdown food and should eat? Thanks - Jen   Josie: Hi Doc, I bought the parasite and candida cleanse, but decided to be safe and do the h. Pylori treatment first. My questions are: Should I follow the healthy gut guide (for the candida) for the entire cleanse? Also, I'm noticing that I'm having bloating after eating meats (specifically fish and eggs). You mentioned Great Lakes collagen protein powder and I'm wondering if I can use it during these cleanses.   Steph B: Hello Doctor! Thank you so much for EVERYTHING you do! I recently left you a 5 star review on iTunes! I try to listen to your podcasts every day, but if I can't, I save them up and "binge" listen to them! I'm very grateful to you. In April of 2016, my best-friend suffered a severe concussion. She was in the middle of moving to a new home and while cleaning a small crawlspace, her husband came up behind her and startled her. She raised up with much vigor (eek...!) and slammed her head against the top of the crawl space. She has had brain scans and other tests run, and all come up with nothing. They have told her that here is no cure for concussion. Chiropractor visits & acupuncture treatments have helped, but her headaches flare with stress & activity, heat, wine, and even certain sounds. She's miserable most of the time and some days she cannot even get out of bed. She is a married mother of three young children, and not even 40 years-old. She recently confided in me that sometimes she feels like her life is over. My heart was broken. I looked through your prior podcasts, but didn't see anything about concussions. Please doctor, any advice, or suggestions for my friend?   Jodi: Hi Dr Cabral, Thanks for creating such wonderful podcasts. They have been fun, interesting and helpful. My question is about bulging knuckles. In 2013 I noticed the knuckles on both hands on my pointer fingers were enlarged. In 2014 I saw a hand specialist and surgeon to determine what was happening thinking they could remove what I thought was an enlargement of my knuckle bone. I was told I had thumb CMC arthritis (Basel joint arthritis) and there is nothing they could do. I had no pain at the time of my appointment but now over the years I am experiencing some pain when I hold things in my hands for an extended amount of time and my knuckles are getting larger. My hands do tingle and ache occasionally when I'm just sitting. I will be 60 in September, I am a whole foods lean eater, and I exercise 4-5 days a week. In my 20-30's I was a body builder (not to compete) but now I lift light weights to stay fit a couple times a week for my arms. I don't have any pain when I exercise or type at work. I have done your 7 day detox and now I have your daily nutritional shake every morning, and I follow the detox meal protocol for lunch and dinner. Super simple to do. I do have an occasional glass or two of wine on the weekends. My once beautiful hands are getting quite gnarly and the area between my thumb and pointer finger is starting to sink in. All of my other knuckles are normal. Is there anything I can do to stop or reverse this or put it in remission? Should I stop exercising, get a different angled keyboard, take supplements, check with a different Dr for surgery? I hope you can help. Thank you.   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm going to be starting your 21 Day Detox this weekend to hopefully clear up some acne that I've been experiencing for about 4 months now. I ordered your Food Sensitivity Test, in hopes that I could complete this before starting the cleanse; however, I just learned that the shipping facility is awaiting the next shipment of test kits, so it won't be delivered until the end of next week. I'm deciding to start the cleanse before receiving the kit. Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed with this testing, after completing the detox? I have some unexplained acne that I'm working to clear up and I don't want to go back to eating any foods that I may be allergic to, and linked to my acne, for the sake of testing just to be back at square one, as it is suggested to eat a variety of foods before taking the test. Thank you so much! Thank you for tuning in and I look forward to answering more of our community questions tomorrow! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/568 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

In this episode, Rob dives deep into the specifics of how to build a workout plan that will trigger muscle growth. Despite the title of this post, it's truly not a secret, but more of strategy for success that might be overlooked by most. He discussed the difference between a hypertrophy style workout versus a strength building workout. They both have their benefits in helping to build lean muscle mass, but are quite different in their execution. Hypertrophy workouts generally have 3 to 4 sets with an 8 to 12 rep range. Strength workouts usually have anywhere from 4 to 10 sets with a much smaller rep range, between 1 to 5 reps. You'll want to listen to podcast to hear Rob go into more detail about the strategies involved when trying to achieve the goal of building lean muscle. OTHER THINGS YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE: -How to be realistic about your goals -Are you an Ectomorph, Mesomorph or Endomorph? -Why adaptation is the key to success -How often you should change your workout program -Sample workout splits for building strength and hypertrophy -Why it's important to trick the body as often as possible Leave a review for Rob and the Open Sky Fitness Podcast, text OSFreview to 33444 To leave a review for Rob and the Open Sky Fitness Podcast click NOW! This week Banes and I were inspired to talk about body shape in the depiction of figures in comics, inspired by some famous images from photographer Howard Schatz's 2002 book, Athlete. In it there are photos of many athletes who're at the peak of their sports and yet their bodyshapes are vastly different, subverting the idea of an "ideal" bodyshape or what it means to be a top athlete or even fit. too often bodyshapes in comics follow a very narrow range, not getting much past what we think of as the current popculture ideal. We all know that idealised model shape is a problem and yet we all still perpetuate it, most of the time you can only tell most "realistic" characters apart by their hairstyle or costume, especially in superhero comics. And that invents a second problem: the myth of the "normal" shaped body as opposed to the ideal- there IS no such thing as normal, and even the ideal is always changing throughout the ages. There's even a lot more to body shape than the famous categories: Mesomorph, Ectomorph, and Endomorph, or Skinny, Pear, Athletic, Hourglass and Apple. We also have a beif mention of how stylised characters (Sponge Bob, Calvin and Hobbes etc) are exaggerations of these shapes and differences.   Topics and Show Notes:   Featured comic: Onward  - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Onward/ Links: Some of the athlete photos here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2502477/Can-guess-sport-shape-Olympians-body.html and here - http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/howard-schatz-beverly-ornstein-athlete (The images, taken by photographer Howard Schatz for his 2002 book, Athlete) Bodyshape pics taken from here - http://bonytobombshell.com/the-scientific-reasons-why-some-women-are-naturally-skinny/ Typical DC superheros - http://s3.media.squarespace.com/production/465215/5366925/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/dc.jpg Typical Marvel superheroes - http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Marvel-Comics-Characters-Wallpaper-5120x3200-1024x640-e1388356472329.jpg Special thanks to: Gunwallace, guitar shaped musician - http://www.virtuallycomics.com Banes, mesomorphic muscleman - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/Banes/ kawaiidaigakusei, hourglass shaped featurer - http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/kawaiidaigakusei/   The theme song by Gunwallace this week was for: YOUR CHOICE  http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/YOUR_CHOICE/ - by VinoMas

Review: Schred1 – Comment (Audio) Review: Schred2 – Clearing Up Comment (Audio) Review: Schred3 – Zak Follow Up (Audio)   Comment: I do believe that the distinction between the different body types is actually very important as long as people understand this is just a very generic scale to give you an idea of how fast your metabolism is. I consider myself an endomorph. I’ve always been the pudgy little guy. When I started working out, I was mostly doing cardio. My goal was to get in shape and feel a bit less ashamed of my body. The problem being that I had a really sweet tooth and preferred by far sweating on a treadmill than going on a diet. Also, from my personal experience, no matter how heavy I lift and how hard I push myself, I can't "lose fat" simply with lifting. Cardio seems to be, if not the only option, at least the best for me. I did very intense cardio for about 5 months. In the end I was weighing 120 lbs for 5'3" and still looked a bit pudgy although I had very skinny arms and could nearly see my ribs. I went to see a dietician who told me being slim would basically mean a drastic change in my lifestyle, both for exercises and diet. However, she also gave me this little explanation about body types, mostly to make me understand I had a slow metabolism and what it would imply. If I wanted to get in shape, it'd have been much easier for me to start lifting than to try and lose fat. So far, my results have been pretty good and I've started out-lifting ectomorphs friends who were ahead of me when I started. All in all, what I'm trying to say is, even though the generalization of body types shouldn't be taking too seriously, having a general idea of the pros and cons of your metabolism can really help you finding the workout and diet that suit you best. I refuse to give up on my occasional cookie or ice cream, but if it hadn't been for learning about the endomorph body type and their ability to gain size easily, I would never have started weightlifting in the first place.   B.      From: Anonymous @Snowheart (Image with Question) Comment: t doesn't seem to look like I've changed much or changed at all after these past two years and it's actually quite demotivating and frustrating to see. I've done what I can within those two years and learning in between. There has been 5x5 (which I've learned quite a bit from previous podcast), HIIT and now, body weight training. Food intake is kept at a minimal as I'm trying to lose those fat and changing them into muscle mass.   Unfortunately, I am unable to fix down on a diet as money is an issue and my family isn't very supportive of what I'm going through. Being a Chinese and whatnot, I'm unable to bring them down to say that white rice is bad for me at the moment cause I did went through that phase and had an argument, even few days ago. We just need to have white rice. I tried adding in brown rice but two issues: 1) it's expensive to obtain and 2) my dad doesn't eat brown rice. Thus, boils down to the issue of food intake where I've been trying to cut half of my portion till now. I know food is a huge issue here but it's difficult in an environment where my parents aren't that supportive of it. That goes for food and for training, I'm on a body weight training with a personal trainer. I've just started on that recently in December 2013 and still going on till now. What I've been doing are push ups, jumping lunges, squats, sand bag training, etc,. It's intense, that much I could say cause my trainer is one hell of a trainer. He pushes and I'm hoping to see results but I'm only on personal training with him once a week. The remaining days, I go on HIIT like RPM classes, biking. I hate running the treadmill and it's not what keeps me motivated. Classes like those keeps me focus and really force myself to push forward. Even after all those, I'm still not gaining or losing much. As you can see from the comparison, it's really demotivating.   I'm only taking whey protein and fat burner as supplements. And I have no access to any nutritionist. Supplements that I'm taking. I'm only taking whey protein and fat burner as supplements. And I have no access to any nutritionist.   C.      From: Fatwolf @All Question: Does anybody know of Soya, Lactose and Dairy free protein shake as I have developed allergies to them.   Zak Source: Yes, Rice and hemp based protein powders have actually been around for some time now. AIR DATE: January 31, 2013 at 7PM ETFEATURED EXPERT: FEATURED TOPIC: “Ketogenic Diets And Exercise Performance” Carbohydrate loading has become so deeply-ingrained (all pun intended!) in our culture for endurance athletics these days that hardly anyone questions whether it is the most effective means for fueling exercise performance or not. But ketogenic diet researchers like  and self-experimenters like  have discovered a new paradigm that could quite possibly be the future of fueling exercise activity–using ketones as an alternative and much more preferred energy source for fueling exercise. And we’re pleased to have a bona fide expert on this topic with a triathlete and sports scientist named Ben Greenfield (listen to my interviews with Ben in  and  of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast) who is joining us in Episode 37 of “Ask The Low-Carb Experts” to share what he has learned about the role ketogenic diets can have in maximizing exercise performance. JOIN BEN AND JIMMY AT THE BECOME SUPERHUMAN EVENT SIGN UP NOW FOR LOW-CARB CRUISE ON CARNIVAL MAGIC Here are just a few of the questions addressed in this podcast: ALAN ASKS:Do you think a ketogenic nutrition plan is compatible with training at lactate threshold? And for races shorter than 5000 meters, is a ketogenic diet optimal or detrimental to maximum performance? MIKKI ASKS:I’m interested in whether you’ve come across research or anecdotal evidence of the effects of a ketogenic diet on exercise performance in women? A lot of the research that has been conducted seems to be in men. I am an endurance runner and I am much better doing longer distances. When I had an RER test done in a fasted state (albeit on a cycle and not a treadmill), it showed I was a complete sugar burner. However, I have no problems training (and performing) for extended periods of time in a fasted state, or with the intake of minimal to no fuel. As far as body composition goes, I’m very lean. Would this have any effect on the RER test results? My diet composition was at the time around evenly split between the three macronutrients. But since becoming interested in and converting to the low-carb, whole food diet approach thanks to Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf and other people in this field, my CHO sources now come from fruit, a small amount of kumara/potato, nuts and non starchy greens. I used to consume a lot of grains and sugary foods. I’ve dropped all artificial sweeteners and processed foods from my diet, upped my intake of fat and feel great. Could the small amount of sugars along with the intake of artificial sweeteners in my diet have influenced my sugar burner result from the RER test? Does it even matter that the RER test suggested I wasn’t a fat burner if I am good at running over longer periods of time with little intake of fuel as aforementioned? KEITH ASKS:If muscles draw energy from the sarcoplasm that stores glycogen for energy, then what positive effect could a low-carb diet possibly have on the sarcoplasm? I’m especially interested in bodybuilding where most studies show that sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is the key to developing larger muscles and differentiates the bodybuilder’s physiology from the power lifter. SUE ASKS:I’m in my mid-50’s and started low-carb 2 years ago after suspecting my body wasn’t utilizing fat for energy. Twice, I did an ironman triathlon and twice, I got rhabdomyolysis. I would like to consider an endurance event again, but wonder if there’s a way to confirm my body is using stored body fat instead of protein? How can I be sure that it does? In the Fall 2012, I did a ketogenic diet for three months but wasn’t able to get my ketones higher than low 2′s. CLAY ASKS:Can you please address a ketogenic diet in relation to endurance for people who are ectomorphs? What is different, if anything, about the details of a ketogenic regimen for people like myself? I’m 6’1″ and weigh 153 pounds and I run 3-4 times a week, do yoga and lift weights on the other days. JONATHAN ASKS:I recently read a series of articles in which Robb Wolf makes it sound like ketosis isn’t something someone can do if they are involved in an MMA/Crossfit or other extreme intensity type work because they are too glycolytically demanding. I would love to hear your thoughts on. NEERAJ ASKS:I do fasted long runs of 24 miles almost every week and eat what I think is a ketogenic diet. I DO include a lot of vegetables in my diet like kale, spinach, broccoli, string beans and the like. However, I’m not seeing any ketones in my urine Ketostix. Are these reliable? Could you talk about high-end athletic performance and the ketogenic diet. I run anywhere from 5Ks to 100Ks. Am I likely to see slower times in the shorter races and better times in the longer ones? And are you aware of any pro runners out there using ketogenic diets? CHRIS ASKS:Would you recommend going into ketosis while training 20 hours a week for an ironman race? GEZ FROM THE UK ASKS:Is it possible to exercise intensively with high performance on a ketogenic diet and at the same time maximize muscle gain and fat loss? Does it matter if the ketosis is from being low-carb or from intermittent fasting? MECHELLE ASKS:I am a 45-year old mom who has been low-carbing since June 2012. I am working hard on getting into full-on nutritional ketosis with readings of 1.5 in the afternoon. My goal is to get above 2.0 millimolar in the morning! I am hoping a formal weight lifting program will help me get there. After reading Ben’s Get-Fit Guy’s Guide To Achieving Your Ideal Body Weight, I realized that I am a pure Mesomorph. Here is my question for Ben: In your book, you recommend lighter weights, with more repetitions for me; however, I am intrigued by Fred Hahn’s Slow Burn and his suggestion to use weights heavy enough for complete muscle fatigue with just a few reps. Is your suggestion for the lighter weights for cosmetic reasons? As a Mesomorph, can I actually get as strong and build as much bone density when lifting lighter weights, with more reps, as I can with lifting heavier weights in the manner Hahn suggests?
