Stephen Pearcy & RATT: Still Biting BackStephen Pearcy, the unmistakable voice of RATT, has never stopped flying the flag for 80s hard rock. As the founding frontman of the Sunset Strip legends, Pearcy helped define the sound of an era with hits like “Round and Round,” “Lay It Down,” and “Back for More.” Even as RATT's lineup shifted over the decades, Pearcy has kept the legacy alive through solo records, reunion shows, and that signature snarl fans can't get enough of.Back with Warren DeMartiniIn a move that has RATT fans buzzing, Pearcy is back on stage with iconic RATT guitarist Warren DeMartini. While a full RATT reunion with the original classic lineup seems unlikely, this pairing alone brings a ton of excitement. Warren's slick, melodic leads were always a core part of the band's signature sound, and seeing him jam with Pearcy again is a nostalgic thrill—and maybe a hint at more to come.6th Solo Album in the WorksStephen Pearcy is currently working on his 6th solo album, and it's shaping up to be something special. Not only is Warren DeMartini involved, but there's also talk of Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands) potentially contributing. Pearcy has hinted that the record will blend new material with some unreleased tracks from the vault, giving fans both fresh fire and classic vibes. No official release date yet, but it's clear he's crafting something fans will want to crank loud.Golden Robot Records Legacy UpdatePreviously, Pearcy signed with Golden Robot Records for a legacy album, expected to be a retrospective mix of past RATT tracks, live cuts, and rarities. While that project has seen some delays, it's reportedly still on the table. Pearcy has shifted focus to the new solo album first, suggesting the legacy release may follow later. For fans waiting to relive the glory days, it'll be worth the wait. Why Just Warren? Some fans are wondering—where's Bobby Blotzer or Juan Croucier? According to Pearcy, there are no plans to reunite the full classic lineup. Personal and legal conflicts, particularly surrounding the RATT name and branding, have made that reunion complicated. But Pearcy says he's focused on moving forward with musicians he gels with—and for now, that means jamming with Warren, someone he shares deep musical chemistry and history with.Stay ConnectedWant the latest from Stephen Pearcy? March 1984. Prince, Kenny Loggins, and Bruce Springsteen dominated the pop charts, but something heavier was brewing. Hard rock and metal were clawing their way into the spotlight, and MTV was playing a pivotal role in this revolution. Enter Ratt, with their major-label debut, Out of the Cellar. In a year defined by arena-ready riffs and eye-catching videos, Ratt burst onto the scene with an album that captured the spirit of the times and proved that metal could be more than just a passing trend.Ratt's Out of the Cellar is a quintessential snapshot of a band balancing grit and glam at the height of their powers. Released in March 1984, the album combines raw energy with slick production, delivering a sound that's equal parts rebellious and radio-ready. With tracks like “Round and Round” and “Wanted Man,” Ratt crafted an album that helped define the MTV era of glam metal while staying grounded in the Sunset Strip's hard rock roots.A Band Ready for the Big StageBy the time Out of the Cellar dropped, Ratt was no overnight success. Years of grinding it out in the Los Angeles club scene had sharpened their skills, and their 1983 self-titled EP had already sold an impressive 100,000 copies independently—a testament to their undeniable appeal. The band's lineup had solidified around frontman Stephen Pearcy, guitarists Warren DeMartini and Robin Crosby, bassist Juan Croucier, and drummer Bobby Blotzer, creating a dynamic chemistry that carried them to the top of the hard rock heap.Ratt's dual-guitar approach set them apart, with DeMartini's sharp, groove-heavy riffs balancing Crosby's bold, melodic solos. Pearcy's distinctive snarl gave the band a rougher edge compared to many of their contemporaries, adding a layer of grit to their glam. Their sound wasn't just catchy—it had character. The Tracks That Made Out of the Cellar Legendary“Round and Round” remains the standout hit, with its infectious hooks and soaring dual-guitar solo. The track epitomizes Ratt's ability to create music that's equal parts heavy and accessible. Then there's “Wanted Man,” a cinematic opener that channels old-school Western vibes, and “Back for More,” a slow-burning anthem that builds from acoustic introspection to full-on rock power.Ratt's rhythm section deserves its own spotlight. Blotzer's drumming, especially on tracks like “Lack of Communication,” is far more dynamic than your average 80s metal backbeat. His clever use of cymbal accents and syncopated rhythms brings depth to the album, making it as danceable as it is headbang-worthy.A Sound That Defined Its EraRatt hit their stride at the perfect moment, just as glam metal was breaking into the mainstream. Out of the Cellar is a product of its time, but its rawness and unique qualities keep it relevant. While the production leans a little thin by modern standards, it complements the band's high-energy style, letting their dual guitars and blistering solos shine.Thematically, the album balances tales of outlaws (“Wanted Man”) with relationship struggles and party anthems. It's a snapshot of a time when rock bands weren't afraid to have fun, but Ratt did it with a touch more grit and attitude than their more polished peers. The Legacy of Out of the CellarRatt wasn't just another glam band—they were trailblazers for the MTV generation of hard rock. Out of the Cellar went on to sell over 3 million copies in the U.S., cementing the band's place in 80s rock history. Its success wasn't just about “Round and Round” dominating MTV; it was about Ratt's ability to craft songs that could move between stadiums and smoky clubs with equal swagger. This album helped set the stage for the glam metal explosion that defined the mid-to-late 1980s. Its raw edges, blazing guitars, and distinct personality made it stand out in a crowded field, giving Ratt a voice that's still celebrated today. Why Out of the Cellar Still RocksListening to Out of the Cellar today, it's clear why this album endures. Its energy, musicianship, and unapologetic attitude make it more than a nostalgia trip. It's a cornerstone of 80s rock that still feels fresh and fun, especially when tracks like “Back for More” or “Lack of Communication” hit your speakers.Ratt didn't just release an album—they created a moment in time. Out of the Cellar captures the raw ambition of a band poised to take over the world, and for a while, they did.Songs in this EpisodeIntro - Round and Round 30:16 - In Your Direction 35:17 - Lack of Communication 36:08 - Back for More 39:06 - Lack of Communication 44:10 - Wanted Man 1:09:09 - One Like a Son (Vertex) Outro - Round and RoundMake Your Metal Voice Heard! We're on a mission to dig deep into the heart of 80s metal, and we can't do it without you. Setbacks, addictions, and even death would become a part of their story and we're covering it all. In this episode we discuss our thoughts on RATT and their discography. Stephen Pearcy of RATT is my latest Talkin' Rock guest. The new ‘THE ATLANTIC YEARS' LIMITED EDITION BOX SET" drops on June 9th. This thing is like the definitive RATT box set. Once again, that drops June 9....you can pre-order it here. Lots of topics were discussed, like the trouble the band had picking a set list back in the day. Did they have trouble picking the songs? "Every F*#(^!n Day!" We talked about the Monsters Of Rock cruise that just wrapped up. Stephen told me all about the box set. He said the entire band was involved in putting together the product. "I did Robin's share of course." he said about the deceased guitarist. He didn't hesitate when I asked him to pick one album out of the five that would best sum up the band. He told me about the MTV years and how important shooting a video was for the band. How about the importance of the rock magazines? We talked about that, too. He also commented on drummer Bobby Blotzer's comments about how RATT crushed Motley Crue back in the day. "Bob tends to be a little outspoken." He went on to talk about this at length. I also had to ask him about the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame....he didn't hide his distain for that place. Fun to catch up with Stephen Pearcy of RATT again. -Meltdown-

This week we look to the stars for inspiration for our show theme. Oh yeah! We are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. A band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. We dive into some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members along with, Offshoots which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Screaming Lord Sutch - “Wailing Sounds” from Lord Sutch & Heavy Friends (1970)Living Loud - “Last Chance” from Living Loud (2004)SuperHeavy - “I Can't Take It No More” from SuperHeavy (2011)Contraband - “Loud Guitars, Fast Cars, & Wild, Wild Livin'” from Contraband (1991)Flint - “Better You Than Me” from Flint (1978)Gogmagog - “I Will Be There” from I Will Be There (1985)Spys4Darwin - “Dashboard Jesus” from microfish (2001)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

This episode further explores the impact heroin, a drug some called the angel of death, had on some metal musicians in the 80's, 90's and beyond. Host Jon Wiederhorn and many of metal's biggest names share outrageous stories that include Ministry's drug-fueled visit with William S. Burroughs, Jane's Addiction's adventure through New York City's Alphabet City to score dope, and Guns N' Roses' failed attempt to smuggle heroin onto a flight to Tokyo. Included are interviews with Ratt, as the episode also examines the tragic downfall and AIDS and heroin-related death of their guitarist Robbin Crosby. Members of Eyehategod, Pantera, and many more reveal stories of survival and the pains of addiction. This is the second episode of a two episode arc. FROM THIS EPISODE: Eyehategod vocalist Mike IX Williams describes his self-destructive mentality behind doing drugs. Hear Alan Niven, former manager of Guns N' Roses, recall an incident when members of the band tried to smuggle drugs on a flight to Japan. Pantera's vocalist Philip Anselmo describes how he felt broken after taking heroin and other narcotics to deal with the pain of a back injury. Lead guitarist of Jane's Addiction Dave Navarro walks through when he and the band scored drugs before a big show at Madison Square Garden. Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen recollects how William S. Burroughs wouldn't let the band into his house unless they had brought heroin. Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer recounts how guitarist Robbin Crosby couldn't hold it together during recording sessions due to his struggle with addiction. Deeply affected by guitarist Robbin Crosby's death, Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy says that was the reason he admitted himself into rehab. Los temas más notables de este grupo son sus sencillos «Round and Round», «Wanted Man», «Lay it Down», «You're in Love», «Back for More», «Shame, Shame, Shame», «I Want a Women», «Symphaty With The Devil», «Imvasion Your Privacity», «Demonic Refusal», «Trail Of Tears», «Im a Rat», «Slip of The Lip», «What you Give is What You Get», «Detonator», «Kill City to City», «Top Secret», «Necrhofhilia», «Infestation», «Reach in The Sky» «Between the Eyes» entre otros. Este contuvo el éxito «You think you' re tough». Otros clásicos son «Wanted Man», «Back for More», «Lack of Comunication», «I'm Insane». You is a Dirty Job». I Win», Tails You Lose». You is a Dirty Job». Sólo escribió una canción, «Can't Wait On Love» y contribuyó en «All or Nothing».

RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas - Ep259

Decibel Geek Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 18, 2016 109:02

Soccer legend Alexi Lalas joins the guys this week for a RATT Discussion; breaking down all eight studio albums and discussing the history of the band. RATT was one of the most notable bands to emerge from the burgeoning Sunset Strip era of the early 1980's. From the self-titled EP that earned them a roster spot on Atlantic Records to the breakthrough success of Out of the Cellar, RATT let the world know early and often that they were a force to be reckoned with. Guitarists Robbin Crosby and Warren DeMartini formed a tandem that would write some of hard rock's most memorable riffs. Bobby Blotzer and Juan Croucier combined for a powerful rhythm section. And Stephen Pearcy topped things off with a sleazy look and vocal delivery that made RATT stand out from the pack. RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas In this nearly 2-hour music and discussion talk, Alexi Lalas explains how he first discovered RATT as a youngster in suburban Detroit. In addition to the muscial influence the band had on him, he shares stories of how the band's fashion sense rubbed off on him. It's no doubt a fact that RATT's influence would help inspire Alexi to have one of the most unique looks in the world of sports in the 1990's. Alexi Lalas Your three hosts break down every album including the often-underrated Dancing Undercover as well as Detonator. They also discuss later albums including the 1999 self-titled album that sported a different sound than what most RATT fans were accustomed to. 2010 saw RATT return to form with Infestation; a solid slab of classic-sounding RATT material that the rock world took to immediately. In this long-form episode, Alexi shares his thoughts on these albums as well as the situation concerning Bobby Blotzer's new version of RATT, the legal wrangling that's been taking place over the last year, and the recent Monsters of Rock Cruise performance of the remaining members of RATT. It's a solid block of RATT and Roll. We hope you enjoy RATT Discussion with Alexi Lalas and SHARE with a friend! Buy Music! RATT Alexi Lalas More Alexi Lalas!
