And that's, that's not only in the legacy side of the business, the legacy voice side of the business. We approach every opportunity in that same manner. Whether that's, in the connectivity offering or even in the emerging product category. Our goal is to make sure that that customer has the best product service and solution at every single location, regardless of where it is domestically or internationally. But again, back to our single bill, single portal, single point of contact with that high level of service and support.” In this podcast, Boudria discusses the massive complexity of migration, especially for the multisite enterprise, where time, mergers and acquisitions and other widely experienced histories have left an organization with a large and complicated migration task. In this podcast, Boudria outlines BCN's approach of meeting organizations where they are and offering the best possible services along whichever path they and their “trusted advisors”, may pick. Choice is a central value.   “We're still a certified CLEC in all 50 states. That's not the core focus of the business, but it's still there and available. so if we have a customer who still has legacy services, we can help them take those services, audit them, show savings, move them over to us, get control of the situation.” BCN offers choices for the migration path “With the help of the trusted advisor, help the customer decide, by location, which technology product and service we're going to use for that voice solution. That could be POTS over LTE. That could be a SIP TRUNK. That could be, a UCaaS, or CCaaS offer. It just, you know, that could be a cable POTS line. That could be a LEC fiber POTS line. It just really depends on what the customer needs. But we're very focused on creating bespoke solutions by location for that customer. It works with just about any existing hardware they have, and it puts revenue back in the customer's pocket and in yours! You might also hear about some of their new IoT and security solutions too! https://youtu.be/aKz7logLQ7s Josh Lupresto: [00:00:00] Welcome to the podcast. That is designed to fuel your success in selling technology solutions. I'm your host, Josh Lupresto, SVP of Sales Engineering, Telarus, and this is next level Biz Tech. Everybody welcome back. Today we are talking about something different. We got secrets for you. More. More specifically, we've got the top three secrets to help you help the customers. Monetize their wifi platform and you're probably thinking, oh my gosh, I didn't even know I could sell wifi or, or, or venture down that road. I've never done that. Don't worry. We're gonna cover all that. We're gonna get into it. And today to tell us about some of these secrets here we've got Shawn Nace with us, and Shawn Nace is the sales engineering manager at Telesystem. Shawn, welcome on, man. Yeah thanks Shawn Nace: for having me. Josh Lupresto: So Shawn, first as we kick these things off, we'd like to hear about everybody's background. Everybody comes from all kinds of different places. Sometimes this industry sucks us in sometimes. We didn't know we were gonna end up here. Sometimes we wanted to be here [00:01:00] from the day one, and we just knew. So we'd love to hear just your personal background story. We know where you're at now cause we just, we just mentioned your title, but where did it start for you? Shawn Nace: Sure. Where did it start for me? So in college I studied business and yeah, I always. Had a fascination with technology. You know, always loved the newest gadgets and so forth. But I realized kind of late in my college career that I didn't wanna I didn't wanna work with numbers. I had a concentration in finance. I realized that it probably wasn't for me. So I ju I jumped on the opportunity to join a a C Life in Pennsylvania or outside of Philadelphia years ago, and kind of worked my way up through the ranks of support, eventually running a knock at a CLEC called line Systems. And then, Moved over to sales as I kind of just had had a, a real desire to get in front of customers and demo solutions like number one hosted PBX was new and you know, we all had to demo these cool little user interfaces. I was the kind of the only two guy for that. So sales ended doing was just a logical regression for me. I've loved it. So, Josh Lupresto: so fill us in a little bit about for anybody that doesn't know, [00:02:00] right? I mean, today we're gonna, we're gonna hone in a little bit on something key that Telesystems does. But, but first of all, just tell us a little bit about who Telesystems is, what you guys are, what's all in the portfolio, and, and kind of what the go to market motion is. Shawn Nace: Yeah, thanks. So we're a national voice and data provider a service provider that's been working with, we've been working with Polaris now I think for I think five or six years. A lot of people, you know, know us for having a really extensive portfolio, whether it's, you know, best in class switching solutions powered by Meta Switch or BroadSoft type two access with DDoS protection. More recently, where we're really getting a lot of traction is with things like cybersecurity, where our extensive managed wifi solution that includes a bit of iot little bit of iot offering on top of that. So We're definitely not your household name, but we're I'd say the best kept secret in telecom and we're the words, the word's getting out there. Josh Lupresto: Let's talk about that.

This week on the podcast, Christopher speaks with Keith Quarles, President and CFO of A2D, a fiber-based, open access competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC). A2D stands for ‘Analog to Digital,' and as Keith explains, represents the infrastructure transition from analog to digital communications. Chris and Keith discuss A2D's business model, which focuses on filling in the gaps – serving communities where connectivity is unaffordable or the incumbent has chosen not to upgrade its infrastructure. Keith explains how many gaps still exist, even after the influx of federal funding for broadband. A2D takes a creative approach to building out fiber backbones in these pockets, which involves connecting existing ecosystems like municipalities, school systems, and electric membership corporations (Georgia's equivalent of electric cooperatives). Keith's background in real-estate development and training in civil engineering, along with the backgrounds of his three business partners who are also engineers by trade, informs A2D's strategy and willingness to "just figure things out."  ★ Support this podcast ★

As a registered dietitian, I get a lot of questions about how people can balance their hormones with over-the-counter supplements. But I only ever give one answer to that question: It depends.   Plenty of “hormone-balancing” supplements can be helpful, and I do use and recommend them in my practice as needed (in specific, targeted, and usually short-term ways). However, many of the hormone-balancing supplements on the market are nothing but fancy marketing, not right for the condition they're being sold for, or contain subtherapeutic levels of active ingredients. And many of them don't actually do what they promise on the label (or contain what they say they do).    Because of all that, I wanted to do an episode talking about some of the more popular brands of hormone balancing supplements, fertility supplements, and prenatals on the market right now and why you should look beyond the marketing to determine if it's something that is actually going to help YOU or not. And since it's always more fun to rant with a friend, I've invited my dietitian bestie, Lauren Manaker, to join me.     Lauren is a premier researcher when it comes to fertility, pregnancy, and women's health. She's the author of several books including Fueling Male Fertility, Avoiding Allergens While Breastfeeding, and The First Time Mom's Cookbook. Lauren has experience working with several supplement companies and even helping them formulate their products based on the latest research. In fact, we both have experience in marketing in the nutrition products space, so we understand what brands are trying to do with the claims they're making.    In this episode, Lauren and I talk about prenatal vitamins and fertility and hormone balancing supplements, and what these two experts think about some of these products.  This Week We Talk About:  How to look beyond the marketing and determine if a supplement is going to help you or not  What's actually in these supplements and what sets them apart from the other brands Which formulas may actually be beneficial and which ingredients are added in mostly for marketing purposes  What kind of supplements most people can benefit from and which ones should be avoided How to spot supplements made by or endorsed by registered nutritionists to get the most out of your supplement choices  Why you should consult with a registered dietitian when you're trying to decide which supplements might be right for you Mentioned in this episode The Period Problems Root Cause Roadmap - If your periods are sent from hell and you're looking for some relief, check out my new program The Period Root Cause Roadmap™! Dietitians, like myself, get into this business because we want to keep learning and keep finding ways to help our clients heal. But, compared to some more well-researched conditions, not a lot of research funds are dedicated to PCOS, or to women's health in general. This is why it's so important that we find the best, most reliable, and relevant studies to help inform our practice.   For today's episode, I'll be joined by Lauren Manaker MS, RDN, LD, CLEC. In addition to being my dietitian bestie, Lauren is an expert researcher when it comes to fertility, pregnancy, and women's health. She's the author of several books including Fueling Male Fertility, Avoiding Allergens while Breastfeeding, and the First-Time Mom's Cookbook. Since Lauren is always my go-to when I want to geek out about something I've read, I just had to invite her on to the podcast to dig deep into the latest research studies.    In this episode, we talk about  How to evaluate the quality of studies you're reading when researching Studies published in the PCOS & pregnancy literature over the last few months Why petri dish studies and studies on rats aren't particularly useful in PCOS (or any condition!) Interesting findings on dairy, supplements, environmental toxins, miscarriage, and fecal transplants in PCOS (yup, you read that last one right) — and relevant takeaways for YOU Links to articles discussed:    Systemic review & meta-analysis on omega-3s: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34488386/   Berberine, gut microbiota (animal study): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34515131/   Whey protein improves glycemic response & NAFLD in PCOS: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34371959/   PCOS as an independent risk factor for miscarriage: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34444016/   PFAS = higher risk for PCOS & uterine fibroids but not endometriosis: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34391986/   Curcumin + fecal microbiota transplant as a possible treatment for PCOS: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34332209/ Lauren's website: https://www.nutritionnowcounseling.com/ Lauren's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurenlovesnutrition/

Karl interviews Ben Niernberg from MNJ Technologies. MNJ is an MSP that also helps other MSPs resell phone services and Internet connectivity. Ben currently oversees all sales, marketing, services and vendor management relations for MNJ Technologies. Before joining MNJ, he spent a decade at Canon Solutions America, a subsidiary of Canon USA Company, where he was in a variety of management and executive roles. At MNJ, Ben remains focused on working with new and existing customers to solve their technology and services business issues that they deal with every day. Ben is thrilled about the future of MNJ Technologies and the exciting growth that has already been realized. For many organizations, connectivity is a key financial, administrative and usability pain point. Legacy solutions like MPLS may be adding unnecessary expense. Traditional circuit/bandwidth services and newer SD-WAN offerings are typically sourced from different providers, making it difficult to optimize spend as well as forcing IT teams to manage multiple bills and complicating troubleshooting. Slow connections frustrate employees (especially those now working from home) while also hampering productivity. Managed services provider MNJ Technologies is solving those problems for mid-market customers by consolidating all telecom services under one roof through its role as both a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) and SD-WAN provider. Today is Velocloud day and you can design a Velocloud solution in many different ways.   For example, you can purchase it as an add-on from you existing ISP or CLEC or ILEC (AKA Telecom company), but I don't necessarily suggest that. Why? Because one of the big benefits of SD WAN is aggregating bandwidth and providing disaster avoidance for your network.   So... if you provider has a major outage, decides to RIF a bunch of people (layoffs), or any other number of compromising factors... then it wouldn't make much sense to have your backup plan for your ISP managed by that exact provider... Also, chances are that the NOC at your provider isn't staffed with the most highly knowledgeable people when it comes to Velocloud products or SD WAN in general.  They probably have some good people, but at the end of the day you are still calling a Toll-Free number, entering a ticket, and then waiting.

Diva Tech Talk interviewed Jill Maiorano, Director of Strategic Engagements, Americas Division, at Cisco (www.cisco.com).  Topics ranged from management, strategy, to balancing home/family with a busy career. “I was not a ‘technology tinkerer’” Jill said.  “From a relatively early age, I decided to be in sales.” After graduating Eastern Michigan University, she felt “really blessed that I was able to find tech.” Her first tech sales job was with Allnet Communications, providing long-distance services to business customers. She was there a few years when Frontier Communications acquired the company, and was later acquired by Global Crossing Inc. (www.globalcrossing.com).  At Allnet, Jill progressed from frontline sales, to sales team management, to opening markets throughout Ohio (Toledo and Cincinnati), to management of the Midwest. Jill then joined the startup team at USN Communications, a CLEC, where she opened and managed 13 offices across Michigan and Ohio. “It ended with a phone call from the president saying that we had run out of money, no more VC funding.  I spent the next two months running what felt like ‘resume clinics’ and writing referral letters” for the 150 people who had worked for her. Then Jill moved to Qwest Communications (now CenturyLink, www.centurylink.com) as a director; then migrated to Sprint (www.sprint.com) to “the easiest job I ever had” as a sales manager. Her next decision to plunge into greater technology depths drove Jill’s decision to join Cisco, 12.5 years ago.   Jill is a Cisco enthusiast for a variety of reasons. “We take our investments, our future, very seriously,” she said. “We call it a ‘buy/build partner model’. She also loves the fact that Cisco deploys a “work is something you do, not where you go” philosophy to help team members achieve life balance.  Jill said: “For 11 years, I ran sales organizations. Each year was slightly different. It was a really interesting time.” In 2016, Jill “took on a role that never existed before.”  Reporting to the SVP of Cisco’s $28 billion Americas (Canada, Latin America and the U.S.A), she was asked to “help with the way we engage with our customers, our partners, our employees.”  Jill’s busy team handles internal and external events, speaking engagements, public relations, internal and external communications of all kinds. “My team also captures the ‘stories’ “Jill said, both within and outside of Cisco, and “elevate and share them.” They have created very impactful Advisory Councils and “do a lot of survey” work to really listen to the field employees to hear more about what is happening in the market, with customers and partners.  Ever action-oriented, Jill said: “I’m in the ‘then, what?’ business, and enjoying it!” Jill feels very comfortable in her skin and has learned, along the way. She said that to feel fulfilled, “most people need more than a number” for which to strive. “They need to feel they are making a difference.”  She is also intent on promoting unique treatment for each team member at the company. “While we rally around mutual mission, individual attention, understanding what makes that person tick” is a strength she uses, daily. While comfortable now, Jill harks back to an earlier time when she “felt defensive” as the only female leader in organizations. “Gaining results took some of that away, but part of it was simply deciding not to live in that ‘head space’ – to not allow myself to feel like I wasn’t welcome” among her male peers.   She gives back to the Cisco community by trying to help through an internal affinity group called Cisco Connected Women, a community for all women at Cisco, all over the globe. The Americas chapter has grown to 4000 members with a 14-member managing board, and a 30-member Advisory Board. “Connected Women’s role is to help attract, retain, develop, and celebrate women as part of Cisco’s competitive and diverse workforce,” Jill said. She decried the fact that while science, math and engineering are part of middle school and high school curricula, technology in many regions and school systems is noticeably absent. Jill’s rallying cry is “where’s the T????”.  Cisco’s Connected Women, 7000 strong globally, implements outreach among adult women and encourages girls to pursue STEM curriculum and vocations. Jill’s children are teenagers, so she is now “at an interesting place where I am trying to get back to things I enjoy” which includes tennis, working out and socializing with friends. “Ultimately what makes me happy is having a blend. When things get out of whack, I really feel the  stress. There is no perfect. You have to look at balance, long-term.” Jill also admits that she has an “unnatural fear of failure,” but has become more comfortable taking risks, and learning from them. “At today’s pace, you must be willing to be out on the edge, and then retreat, regroup and relearn.” Key leadership and life lessons that Jill shared were: Be yourself. “Go for it; be a pioneer.”   “Embrace change.” The pace of change is intense, so keep up with it. “Be real with who you are.  Know your strengths and your weaknesses. Match your skills with your career.” “Create a woman friend network. If you have the right ones in your life, they will ‘high five’ you better than anybody. They will hug you when you need a hug.  They will nudge you when you need a nudge. And they will ‘call you on it’ when you need that!” For the full blog write up, make sure to check us out on online at www.divatechtalk.com, on Twitter @divatechtalks, and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/divatechtalk.
