Join us on the remarkable journey of how Kat Wildish was inspired against all odds to become a leading Prima Ballerina and Dance Educator in the United States. One school field trip at the age of 8 is all it took, for Miss Kat Wildish to connect to her dream. Ballet. Listen to her Kick Ball Change moments from resistance of guidance counselors who discouraged her dreams of being a dancer, to a dance educator who asked her if she wants to be a big fish in a small pond, or a tiny fish in a big pond.. We are thrilled that Miss Wildish said NEITHER!! She chose to be a big fish in a big pond, dancing her way on stage with the greats, like Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, Cynthia Gregory, and Fernando Bujones. She was hand-picked for NYCB by George Balanchine and for ABT by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Miss Kat Wildish is still preserving the artistic passion by continuing to educate at Universities and studios in NYC. You can find her full schedule her, and even take classes with her virtually https://taylorjgordon.wixsite.com/katwildish https://www.instagram.com/katwildish/ https://gibneydance.org/people/kat-wildish/

But now she provides a vital creative outlet for her students of color that brings joy to them and her. Nicole shares with Jeanne (her cousin!) why the work she does matters; how teaching found her; why she's calm when facing adversity; how she realized she was asking the wrong question about doors being open or closed to new opportunities; how she handles imposter syndrome; and why she wants to build her legacy through mentorship. Nicole Robinson is a dancer, teacher, choreographer and dance education advocate from Riverside, CA. She is a graduate from California State University, San Bernardino with a degree in Kinesiology. She holds a Master of Arts in Dance Education from California State University, Long Beach. Nicole is a strong advocate for providing dance education opportunities to underserved populations. Join Udo and his guest, Christian Moya, a Peruvian music and culture educator for the last podcast of this year. Moya has lived for many years in New York City, surrounded by a large Latino population. When he moved to Missoula with his wife, he was not sure he would find the same sense of community. But he was pleasantly surprised that, while Missoula's Latino community is fairly small, it is thriving. To Moya, building community, listening to music, dancing, speaking Spanish, while playing percussion instruments, is not only important, but it also creates community. Learn more about Peru, and how important it is to celebrate culture, traditions and customs, especially when one is outside of one's country of origin. In 2023, the International Voices podcast reached a new record in its listenership around the world, with audiences listening in over 30 countries. I started the International Voices podcast series in February of 2020 and over 40 episodes were recorded so far, featuring many international and multicultural voices from within the United States, as well as individuals, who have studied, worked, researched, or lived in locations around the globe, giving them an international perspective as well.

Dance Educator and author Mary Bawden received a BA in modern dance from UCRiverside, a MA, and a secondary teaching credential. In 1993 she developed a dance ministry at her church which continued for over 20 years. In 2016, she released a book on dance titled “Dance is Prayer in Motion”. Several years ago, Mary noticed a cultural shift in children's dance from age-appropriate, healthy movement to harmful, hypersexualized movement in adult costumes, choreography, and music. This realization birthed a mission to bring international awareness and education to stop the exploitationthrough hypersexualization of children in dance. That coincided with a vision to promote the art of dance and its benefits to children by creating educational materials advocating for their safety and protection.Mary founded Dance Awareness: No Child Exploited in 2016 (DA:NCE)to educate an uninformed public and to provide research to show the connection between children's dance and the pornographyindustry. DA:NCE has a website that features videos, articles, and research that aid in the understanding of this issue and the need for action. Since 2020, danceawareness.com has released a new group ofresources that include national experts from 2019 CESE(Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation) Summit. They emphasize how hypersexualized children's dance grooms children corporately for unhealthy outcomes. Mary's passion is to help adults understand the differences between harmful and healthy children's dance with informed choice, education, and practical actions to change the culture.

Send us a Text Message. With Season 2 we are exploring how the BioEnergetic Wellness tools from Touch for Health, Brain Gym, Therapeutic Touch, NeuroReflex Integration, etc., transform how we engage in our favorite activities. Dance and dance tradition has been an interesting exploration as the tools that were used to create perfection in movement required repetitive learning, effort, and sustained positions. Mariah-Jane Thies, ballet and modern dancer and educator has been turning dance training on its head with her connection of brain integration, creative imagery, dynamic movement, and passion for dancing. Her current project, The Radiant Dance Teacher, is exploring the integration of BioEnergetic Wellness techniques with creative dance explorations. Her goal is to provide a well-being environment for dancers and educators that continues to build energy and vitality throughout the class or rehearsal. Her approach pulls some of the most profound tools from BioEnergetic Wellness to transform effort, memory, muscle integrity, flexibility, pattern building, and more, with ease and grace. If you are an educator, a sports enthusiast, a wellness coach, person who moves every day (yes, I am being cheeky - that includes all of us), this talk will have a little something for everyone, including a few techniques and how to use them.To learn more about Mariah-Jane Thies and The Radiant Dance Teacherplease check out her TEDxTalk: https://youtu.be/xKwK4pXvGTc - "Your Movement Habits Create your Life." The 3 pillars of her philosophy for teaching dance include INTEGRATION (brain), EMBODIMENT, and EXPRESSION. The other foundational principles of teaching dance can be incorporated into how you feel is appropriate, including training for strength, flexibility, and coordination. There are a lot of fantastic resources for the development of these areas. Please check my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi7l..., for a new approach that is very unique and also essential. Without Brain Integration, your students cannot learn. Without Integration your students cannot become truly Embodied and develop strength, flexibility, and coordination effectively and safely. And without a focus on Expression...what are we doing here as teachers of an art form? The Radiant Dance Teacher is also a group on FacebookSpecial shoutout to our sSupport the Show.Dr. Michelle Greenwell, BA Psych, MSc CAM, Ph. In Episode 7, The Artist Arena Hosts Erin and Angelica talk about Erin's new big adventure and business launch, as well as the challenges of organizing your time as a creative. Because those of us who live a creative lifestyle don't usually have the typical 9 to 5, nor do we want to, we can face many challenges as we figure out how to organize and prioritize our schedules and commitments. Especially for dancers, whether you are in school full time or teaching, in addition to class, you're probably spending a lot of time in rehearsals for creative projects...and our bodies can only take on so much in a day. Oh, and don't forget we gotta fit in that cross-training and self-care somehow! Ahhh...yes, anyone else relate? We discuss these challenges as well as offer some tips and advice that we have discovered in our own finagle with time.

Today you plan the heck out of your dance class! You have your music ready, your counts, your exercises… everything. Then you walk into the class and everything changes! You make the choreography a little easier or more difficult. You switch counts. Or you may decide to scrap your lesson altogether and meditate with your students because the energy is just off. Has that ever happened to you? Adjusting your lesson because of student interaction… It's a shame that in the online space people make it seem so easy. And, it's misleading! It's not easy, but getting your clients results and seeing their transitions is rewarding! In episode #178 of the Dance Boss Podcast, I dive into: How your values as a Dance Educator/dance professional might be getting diluted How pre-recorded video for your online dance program may be affecting your revenue and integrity How I help my clients create a curriculum that is results-driven instead of “them”-driven So tell me friend, have you ever taken a pre-recorded course for your online dance business? Did you finish it? And what did you think about it? Tag me on IG @erinpride and let me know! In this episode, we go from the Artist Arena to the Horse Arena with Vonie Kalich, an Equine Gestalt Coach and Health and Wellness Coach whose assistant is her equine partner, Cody. Vonie, Erin, and Angelica discuss questions about imposter syndrome and how it has shown up in our lives, art, and careers. We share stories as well as some great tools for examining imposter syndrome and agree that all the world's problems would be solved if everyone had a horse in their backyard. Vonie talks about how she works with the emotional intelligence of her horse to help clients connect with themselves on a deep level to face obstacles such as self-doubt. We also learn about the incredible healing power of horses, which reminds us of the ability we have to engage in non-verbal dialogue through the body; body to body transmission. As dance artists, we engage in this kind of communication all the time, which only further confirms our initial feeling that horses and imposter syndrome are connected to the work that we do as dancers and creators. In the sanctuary of the dance studio, Arts Ed Now advocate and Dance Educator Claudine Ranieri has been dancing since her youth and teaching for over three decades. Classically trained and an alumni of the LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts in NYC, Claudine graduated from Brooklyn College's Dance program and dove into a life dedicated to the arts, arts advocacy for all, and sharing a passion for dance that she lives and breaths. Her insights abound... from creating an environment of trust for her students, the joy and grind of rehearsals, the switch to performance preparation, and the profoundness of sharing what is done in the vulnerability of the studio for the public. She has easily brought together a profound collection of repertoire from the history of dance for her students with the improvisation of contemporary dance as it discovered in her classroom. Claudine is a powerhouse whose personal dance career outside of education is exhaustive, but she describes performing "All That Jazz" in three and a half inch heals at age 39, at 40 putting her point shoes on again, and performing an original choreographed piece for Maya Angelou as the highlights so far. She reminds us that dance is what we do when we don't have words, what we do to connect people, to express what is within, and with that it speaks for issues of justice, hope, planting seeds, and the connection of souls. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thestolenhourspodcast/message
