I was inspired by all of my live dance music players from college and season 2 of Daredevil to help the audience experience what our hero goes through. This piece was a giant collaboration from my stunts class. Monica, Rayla and Tennyson did most of the heavy lifting in terms of choreography and costume design. But they asked me to help stunt coordinate and direct and help write the script since the action was developed without any specific dialogue at all. It's just Kevin and Lauren again this week and they are discussing Splitsville, Highest 2 Lowest, Am I OK?, Daredevil: Born Again, and Emma & Bruce That's right, Andrew has shunned all of us again. It hurts, but we'll move on. He'll be back and we all know it. After getting over our searing sting of rejection, Lauren kicks off the show by talking about the new film, Splitsville, starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, and some other people. That sounds a little dismissive, but the overall review is that the film isn't anything too special. It's a comedy-ish, but it opens in a very dark place. Our primary couple decides to enter into an open relationship to save their marriage, and, as you might imagine, it's less than successful. It sounds like this movie leans more into the odd humor than the straightforward and might be worth a viewing, but many reviews label it as somehow both chaotic and boring at the same time, so watch at your own risk. After that, Kevin joins his field guide, Spike Lee, on a tour of New York in Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington. It's a remake of the Akira Kurosawa classic, High and Low. While the review is solid, it really does feel like an advertisement for New York about 40% of the time, and the first half of the film feels a little slow, while the second half flies by. It does end strong, but leaves a few questions in Kevin's mind that make it a little off from some of Lee and Washington's better works, but it's definitely worth a watch. Next up, Lauren continues to feed her Dakota Johnson addiction with a film from 2022, Am I OK? Directed by the great comedian Tig Notaro, this is the story of a woman who discovers a little late in life that she is gay. The film documents how that affects her, her relationships with friends, and what it means for her relationships going forward. It's certainly more heartfelt than the previous Johnson film Lauren watched and is one of her better films, so check it out if you have the chance. Coming off that high of a couple of really solid films, Kevin veers off the road into what might be a hot take. He and his family recently finished the Netflix Daredevil series and began Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. While the show has fared well critically, Kevin is of the opinion that the original Netflix series is the better of the two. And it's not close. The new series leans too much into the special effects and loses a lot of the grit and grime that made the original such a success. That said, it is in no way a bad series, so if you like the MCU, definitely give it a go! Lauren closes out the show on top with a review of the Diane Sawyer interview with Emma Heming Willis about her relationship with Bruce Willis and the complexities they face with his dementia diagnosis. It's not the happiest of topics, but it's a very good interview and leads to some interesting discussion between Kevin and Lauren. Even if you skip this part of the podcast, the interview itself is definitely worth spending your time on. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let us know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! Mr. Honest is back in Hell's Kitchen. This lean, no-filler breakdown of Daredevil Season 1 hits the big beats that made Marvel's street-level corner legendary: the confession booth thesis, the Episode 2 hallway fight, Fisk's brutal rise (and Vanessa's influence), Foggy's heartbreak, Karen's line in the sand, and the red-suit coronation. Along the way, Eric connects the dots to Born Again—without spoilers—and explains why Marvel Maniac is shifting to season deep-dives for quality over quantity. If you're binging the Netflix era for the first time or jumping in from Born Again, this recap will refresh the moments that matter and why they still hit. Plus: programming notes, future coverage teases, and a quick plug for Magic Muggle (Saturdays at 10 AM). Episode 77 - Murdock and Marvel: 2009 Part 2 2009 was a tough year for comics, in that sales declined and a number of stores (nearly 50% in some areas) closed their doors.  Closings of Waldenbooks and other book outlets also made getting product into customers' hands difficult.  We also saw cover prices rise, even as the recession continued to impact fans ability to spend. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2009.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances: Daredevil #113-119, 500-501, Daredevil Noir #1-4, Dark Reign: The List – Daredevil #1, New Avengers #47, Secret Invasion #8, Secret Invasion: Front Line #5, Age of Sentry #4 and 6, Fantastic Four #562 and 569, Might Avengers #20, What If? Newer Fantastic Four #1, What If? Secret Wars #1, New Warriors #20, Amazing Spider-Man #587 and 600, Marvels: Eye of the Camera #2 and 4, Ultimate Spider-Man #132, Astonishing Tales #3-5, Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #2-3, Deadpool: Suicide Kings #3-5, Exiles #6, Strange Tales #2 and Marvel 70th Anniversary Collection.  Writing: Ed Brubaker (#113-119, 500), Andy Diggle (#501) Pencils: Michael Lark (#113-114, 117-119), Lark, Tony Zonjic and Gaudiano (#115), David Aja (#116), Lark and Gaudiano (#500), Roberto De La Torre (#501) Inks: Stefano Gaudiano (#113-114, 116-119), Matt Hollingsworth (#115), Klaus Janson, Chris Samnee and Paul Azaceta (#500), Roberto De La Torre (#501) 2009 begins with the final three parts of the Lady Bullseye storyline we talked about to finish up 2008. In that we Daredevil, Black Tarantula and White Tiger along with Master Izo trying to take down the Hand once and for all – but the Hand are trying to recruit Daredevil to be their leader. The story ends with Lord Hirochi, Lady Bullseye, Black Tarantula, and White Tiger board a plane to Spain, where Lady Bullseye says they will pursue Plan B.  In March, we get the return of another old foe – Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin himself in an aptly titled story called Return of the King. In part one of the story, we see Fisk in Spain where he befriends and falls in love with a woman, Marta, and her kids – only to see Lady Bullseye and the Hand killing them causing him to revert back to his old ways.  Kingpin returns to New York and announces his return and his plans to deal with Daredevil. That plan turns out to be working with Daredevil to take down the Hand. Meanwhile, Foggy is upset that Matt constant absence from the firm confronts him and ultimately fires him.  Daredevil tries to locate Master Izo without success and begins to doubt his alliance with Kingpin, suspecting that Fisk is using the Hand and the Owl to wipe out his rivals. Fisk, still haunted by visions of Vanessa, meets with the Owl and gives him Lady Bullseye's next target – Foggy Nelson.  The conclusion of this story – is a renumbered issue 500 of Daredevil and the conclusion of Ed Brubaker on Daredevil – will be our spotlight story for this week.   In Dark Reign: The List – Daredevil #1 we see Bullseye (now operating under the Hawkeye identity) go after Daredevil at the behest of Norman Osborn. Daredevil pursues him but falls into a trap: Bullseye lures him into a building full of protestors and then blows it up. The blast kills 107 people, leaving Matt devastated and furious—determined to take action.  Following that we get the start of a new story from new creative team - Andy Diggle and Roberto De La Torre entitled The Devil's Hand. In it, we see Matt as leader of the Hand. Since most of this story takes place in 2010 – we'll save talking about it more until our 2010 discussion. This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil #500 October 2009 “Return of the King, Conclusion” Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway It had been a rough decade for the United States, and the Marvel Universe showed the strain as the decade ended. In this episode, we dive deep into Ozzy Osbourne's “Back to the Beginning” final concert and discuss whether Sammy Hagar was the low point of the show.Do the old Marvel movies still hold up, or were they just great at the time? We debate how the newer films lean too heavily on cheap pops and flashy money shots. Falcon and The Winter Soldier has aged well, but its follow-ups felt forced. We also get into She-Hulk, Daredevil, Thunderbolts, and Captain America: New World Order, with a special focus on Ironheart's mishandling by Disney and whether her appearance in Wakanda Forever was a misstep. We revisit how some older CGI still holds up better than today's, and compare it to the over-reliance on CGI in modern films. Finally, we round things off with a look at the new Superman movie, highlighting all the things it got right — from casting, tone, and hopefulness to Lex Luthor, Krypto, and the Daily Planet. From Matt Murdock's tragic childhood accident to the gritty streets of Hell's Kitchen, this first chapter introduces us to Nelson & Murdock, Karen Page, and a city still reeling from The Incident — the Battle of New York. While the Avengers saved the world, the aftermath left a power vacuum that criminals were all too eager to fill. Live from Terrificon, this panel reunites Ralph Macchio, Ann Nocenti, and John Romita Jr. to revisit one of Daredevil's most memorable creative periods. Ralph sets the stage with behind-the-scenes stories of the handoff from writer Denny O'Neil to Frank Miller, and ultimately to Ann Nocenti, charting the evolution of the Man Without Fear through shifting creative visions.Ann and John share how the grit, danger, and energy of New York City's real nightlife shaped their take on Matt Murdock's world, infusing it with street-level authenticity and vivid, flawed characters like Typhoid Mary and Shotgun. The conversation takes a wild detour as the trio recalls their “freaky” trip to Paris representing Marvel — a surreal adventure filled with culture shock, unexpected encounters, and a dash of chaos. It's a lively mix of comics history, personal anecdotes, and the creative alchemy that kept Daredevil swinging high.

What if you were convinced you got a good night's sleep even if you didn't? It turns out what you believe can actually determine if you do or don't feel tired the next day. How can this possibly be true? This episode starts with an explanation which could be very useful one day when you didn't sleep well. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24417326/ Many times in your life you have felt totally bored. What exactly is boredom? Is it a feeling or maybe it is a lack of a feeling? Does feeling bored ever serve a purpose? Then there is that phrase, “I'm bored to death.” Can that actually happen – death by boredom? Here for a fascinating discussion on the topic of boredom is psychologist James Danckert, author of the book, Out of My Skull: The Psychology of Boredom (https://amzn.to/3ePmnsq). On one end of the scale are thrill seekers and daredevils who jump out of airplanes or climb dangerous mountains. On the other end of the scale are people who would rather stay home and read a book by the fire. What is the difference? What cause thrill seekers to do what they do? What is it they gain from those experiences? That is what Ken Carter is here to reveal. Ken is a board-certified clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at Oxford College of Emory University and author of the book Buzz!: Inside the Minds of Thrill-Seekers, Daredevils, and Adrenaline Junkies (https://amzn.to/35FIwCn) One day your car's check engine light will come on. It's a pretty vague warning that doesn't tell you much. What could it be? Sometimes it's nothing. In fact, often it is nothing. Listen as I reveal one of the most likely reasons it comes on and the simple fix. Source: Phil Edmonston author of The Lemon-Aid Car Guide (https://amzn.to/33wtJaC) Learn more about your ad choices.
