Please enjoy this recut of our Kang episode where the segments flow in the standard order, for those people who were confused by/didn't care for the experimental nature of the original release :) Just before Quantumania releases, we travel through time with KANG THE CONQUEROR! This temporally unstable episode is our most ambitious yet - don't miss it!   Intro Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania coming out Feb. 17 - Anthony & Doc will do a review mini-episode after the film drops Background Kang the Conqueror, Nathaniel Richards, created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Due to Kang's time-traveling abilities, his backstory, and even creation, are difficult to pin down Rama-Tut - first appeared in Fantastic Four #19 (Oct. 1963) - a time-traveling criminal from the year 3000 who went back to ancient Egypt  In Sept. 1964, in Avengers #8, Rama-Tut reveals he traveled to the year 4000 and is called Kang the Conqueror Two months later (Nov. 1964), Immortus debuts in Avengers #10, and was later retroactively revealed as another variant of Kang Another variant appears a few years later - the Scarlet Centurion (Avengers Annual #2 - Sept. 1968) A heroic version was introduced in Young Avengers #1 (Feb. 2005) - Iron Lad Later revealed that Kang is actually Nathaniel Richards, a descendant of Reed Richards' father Reed's father traveled forward to the 31st century and brought peace to a war-ravaged Earth - it was here he had a child, named Nathaniel Nathaniel grew up bored of the simple peace he lived, and when he was 16, he stole a time machine, traveled back to Egypt, and became Rama-Tut He then traveled to the “present”, where he met Dr. Doom and became inspired by him Attempting to travel to his home timeline, he passed it by a thousand years, and upon learning that he can easily take over the war-torn planet, decides to go back to when Earth was fruitful so he can make it more worthwhile Often shows up as a foe of the Avengers, but sometimes he battles the Fantastic Four Major storylines: Celestial Madonna - searching for a woman destined to carry a powerful child, he finds Mantis, but is thwarted by alternative versions of himself - here we learn that Immortus and Rama-Tut are also Kang, but after Kang overloads his armor, he destroys himself, deleting Immortus and Rama-Tut from existence as well Council of Kangs - Three variants create a triumvirate to eliminate all other versions, but Ravonna (Kang's lover) tricks one of them into death before Immortus is destroyed by Prime Kang, the only one who remains Avengers Forever - Kang rejects Immortus, and allies with the Avengers to prevent Immortus from allying with the Time Keepers - this involves keeping Rick Jones alive and Avengers from other timelines Kang Dynasty - Kang, along with his son Marcus (operating as Scarlet Centurion), takes over the Earth in order to save it from a horrific future - although he initially conquers the world, he is defeated by the Avengers, with help from a traitorous clone of Marcus, who is infatuated with Carol Danvers (not unlike another version of Marcus) Responsible for the creation of the Young Avengers - 16 year old Nate Richards is rescued by Kang and shown his future growth into the despot, but this horrifies young Nate, and he uses the time-travel technology and transports himself to the past, where he arrives as the Avengers have been disassembled - he downloads the Vision's operating system into his armor, and this amalgamation (Iron Lad) assembles a new team of younger heroes to prevent Kang from rising up in the first place Issues Hedonic adaptation and the Diderot Effect Narcissism Technophilia Break Plugs for Cheers to Comics, Adventures in Erylia, and Meghan Fitzmartin Treatment theme: Anything, but not everything In-universe Out of universe Skit KANG: And now, my boy, it is time for you to DIE! DOC: Wait, it's not supposed to happen like this! * warp sound* IRON LAD: Doctor Issues, I presume? DOC: What the - who the - what the -  IRON LAD: I understand, the whole time manipulation thing can be overwhelming.  DOC: But you were just trying to kill me! IRON LAD: Oh no, sorry, that's a different me.  DOC: Excuse me? IRON LAD: You can call me Iron Lad. Or Nate. DOC: So you're NOT trying to kill me? IRON LAD: Nope, definitely not. I had to warp you out of there, because if you died, it throws the entire timeline outta whack. DOC: But you look just like the guy I was in there…  IRON LAD: Yeah, he's me from the future, but he showed me what it looked like, and I want absolutely nothing to do with that. So I went back to the past, which is your present, to stop myself from becoming him in the future. But the Avengers were gone, so I found the Vision's brain and downloaded it into my armor, and now here I am. DOC: I'm so confused… IRON LAD:  I don't blame you. Sometimes I have to remind myself of who I am now, not who I was or who I might be. DOC: So what happens now? IRON LAD: I'm going to put you back in your office, just a liiiiitle bit earlier in the timestream, so you don't make the mistakes that lead up to whatever it was that made Kang want to kill you. DOC: That's just it, I don't even remember what it was. He just got up out of the chair and pointed a weapon at me.  IRON LAD: Sadly, that's just how he is. He gets this idea in his head, and no matter what anyone says or does, he will do it come hell or high water. Sometimes I think I do it because I don't want anyone else dictating my destiny. DOC: Are we talking about him or you? IRON LAD: Uhh… ok, time to send you back now, good luck!  DOC: Oh no, don't warp me like this, it feels like I'm *warp sound* drowning in- KANG: - the annals of history are *simultaneously* drowning in- DOC: Gaaaaah! KANG: You primitive dare interrupt Kang! You inadvertently prove my point about the vast majority of individuals who are mindless filler for the planet. Important resources wasted on people who can never comprehend how trivial their existence is to the grand scheme of time and history. That is one of my goals, to separate those who are worthy to share in the existence I plan on ushering forth from these… carbon-based cretins. And so far, you have done nothing to dissuade me from counting you in the latter group. DOC: Sorry, it's just… I wasn't feeling like myself. As to your point, philosophers have discussed the value of human existence for millenia.  KANG: Those simpering academics? Bah. Very few are capable of acknowledging the meaningless of their lives, and ironically it is those who are best equipped to assist me in my plans. DOC: So… you're looking for nihilists? KANG: Only in nihilism can you find the ultimate freedom.  DOC: I don't understand. You keep speaking in circles, can you please be direct and just - talk to me? KANG: Have we not been conversing this entire time? *Warp sound* RAMA-TUT: Don't listen to me, I can get a little long-winded sometimes. DOC: What the hell? RAMA-TUT: I am Rama-Tut. The me you were in there with is an older version of me, long after I took over ancient Egypt. DOC: How many of you are there? RAMA-TUT: There are as many variants of me as there are grains of sand in the desert. DOC: That's… unsettling. But why did you take me out of the session? RAMA-TUT: The machinations of Rama-Tut are far beyond your ken. You need only know this: for the universe to avoid never ending calamity, not only must you survive, but you must kill Kang.  DOC: Dude, if you know ANYTHING about me, you'd know I am not going to kill anyone. RAMA-TUT: All mortals have limits, and in order to preserve all of existence, you must push beyond yours. This has been foreseen, and not only by me, but by all Kangs. Why do you think he allowed himself to be captured and brought to you?  DOC: But why me? Literally anyone else could do a better job at that than me. RAMA-TUT: If I divulge that information to you, it would create dangerous ripples throughout the timestream. You must simply trust what I tell you. DOC: Not gonna happen. RAMA-TUT: Nevertheless, I will return you to your session, slightly earlier than before. Take this, it is a chronosword. You must use it to strike down Kang. It will be shielded from him until you are ready to use it. DOC: No, no, no *warp sound* for the last time- KANG: A rather foreboding introduction, Doctor. You speak as though we have met before. DOC: Uh, what I meant to say was- KANG: I have no doubt that my… variants have attempted to persuade you to kill me, have they not? DOC: I'm not exactly sure how client confidentiality works in this type of situation, but I'm gonna go ahead and just say I can't tell you what I spoke to anyyou else about. KANG: It matters not. I have foreseen this all. The entire series of events that led me, you, us to this moment. I have orchestrated what to your mind would be an incomprehensible amount of coincidences, all building up to my single greatest triumph yet. DOC: Not to be entirely self-deprecating, but if your greatest triumph involves me, somehow I think we need to reestablish your definitions of “great” and “triumph”.  KANG: So simple, and yet you have no idea your function as a keystone in the story still to be told. The annals of history are drowning in- DOC: Drowning in- Gaaaah KANG: You primitive dare interrupt Kang! You inadvertently prove my point about- IMMORTUS: *warp sound* The irony of him daring call anyone primitive. DOC: OK, you all have GOT to stop cutting me in & out. And which one are you? IMMORTUS: I am IMMORTUS. And we haven't much time. DOC: Now THAT'S ironic.  IMMORTUS: No, truly, the Time Keepers are hunting me down. I must inform you quickly. You are in grave danger. DOC: Yeah, I got that already. You're the fourth…  you to pull me out of the session already. IMMORTUS: Fourth? *counts to self* that means there's still time then. DOC: Again, we have nothing BUT time. IMMORTUS: Not true at all. Listen to me, as soon as we return, you MUST kill Kang. DOC: Like I told the other guy, that's not gonna happen. IMMORTUS: You don't understand. You must do it before you are pulled from the timestream again. If you don't, the consequences to all of existence will be dire. DOC: Yeah, I know, Kang will destroy the entire universe. IMMORTUS: No, Doctor Issues. YOU will. DOC: Wait, what?!?! IMMORTUS: It would take far too much to explain, just know that… *beep* they're on to me. I must send you back now. DOC: No, wait, come here and *warp sound* talk to me! KANG: Have we not been conversing this entire time? DOC: I… KANG: Which one was it? The whiny child? Or the one who is so certain of his immortality he named himself after it? DOC: Again, to avoid any problems with confidentiality, I can't divulge conversations with other clients, even if they're kinda sorta you. I mean, I know there have been some shenanigans here, but I don't want to keep repeating things, otherwise I might as well just be talking to myself… KANG: You have no idea how right you are, my lad… DOC: What does that mean? KANG: He hasn't told you? DOC: Who hasn't told me what? KANG: Fascinating. Then there's still time for me. Allow me to disengage these restraints- DOC: Hold on, those are state of the art, I worked with the designer personally to ensure- KANG: Yes, but as you well know Doctor, you can't defend against yourself. DOC: Huh? KANG: And now, my boy, it is time for you to DIE! NATHANIEL RICHARDS: *Warp sound* It's not supposed to happen like this. DOC: Lemme guess, you're the “he” who's supposed to reveal some big secret that's going to change everything. NATHANIEL: I am Nathaniel Richards. Father of Kang, Immortus, Rama-Tut, Iron Lad, and all Kangs across the multiverse. And I'm not just any “he”, Doctor Issues. Or should I say… grandfather. DOC: *flat* what NATHANIEL: The timestreams have been merged and diverted so often things are broken. My own memory of how this came to be betrays me. Just before Quantumania releases, we travel through time with KANG THE CONQUEROR! This temporally unstable episode is our most ambitious yet - don't miss it!  Issue 168 - Kang the Conqueror Intro Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania coming out Feb. Doom and became inspired by him Attempting to travel to his home timeline, he passed it by a thousand years, and upon learning that he can easily take over the war-torn planet, decides to go back to when Earth was fruitful so he can make it more worthwhile Often shows up as a foe of the Avengers, but sometimes he battles the Fantastic Four Major storylines: Celestial Madonna - searching for a woman destined to carry a powerful child, he finds Mantis, but is thwarted by alternative versions of himself - here we learn that Immortus and Rama-Tut are also Kang, but after Kang overloads his armor, he destroys himself, deleting Immortus and Rama-Tut from existence as well Council of Kangs - Three variants create a triumvirate to eliminate all other versions, but Ravonna (Kang's lover) tricks one of them into death before Immortus is destroyed by Prime Kang, the only one who remains Avengers Forever - Kang rejects Immortus, and allies with the Avengers to prevent Immortus from allying with the Time Keepers - this involves keeping Rick Jones alive and Avengers from other timelines Kang Dynasty - Kang, along with his son Marcus (operating as Scarlet Centurion), takes over the Earth in order to save it from a horrific future - although he initially conquers the world, he is defeated by the Avengers, with help from a traitorous clone of Marcus, who is infatuated with Carol Danvers (not unlike another version of Marcus) Responsible for the creation of the Young Avengers - 16 year old Nate Richards is rescued by Kang and shown his future growth into the despot, but this horrifies young Nate, and he uses the time-travel technology and transports himself to the past, where he arrives as the Avengers have been disassembled - he downloads the Vision's operating system into his armor, and this amalgamation (Iron Lad) assembles a new team of younger heroes to prevent Kang from rising up in the first place Issues Hedonic adaptation and the Diderot Effect Narcissism Technophilia Treatment theme: Anything, but not everything In-universe -  Out of universe -  Skit KANG: And now, my boy, it is time for you to DIE! But I know this: you are my grandfather, which makes you- DOC: Ancestor of Kang. NATHANIEL: Indeed. I had hoped to get this information to you sooner, but I was attacked by- DOC: At this point, does it really matter? My entire life, my entire identity, has been thrown into question. DOC: Then send me back to the moment when he decides I need to die. NATHANIEL: I don't understand. DOC: Look, when I get so much hearsay, I have to strip away all opinion. If Kang wants me dead, I don't need anyone else's interpretation. Whatever he does in that moment is the only thing that can resolve this. I am his provider, and it is my duty. If you are truly of my heritage, you'll understand this, and have some faith. NATHANIEL: I admit I do not understand. But I do have faith. After an eleventh-hour topic change, in honor of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania movie, we look at the convoluted continuity of Kang the Conqueror, which sort of starts before his first appearance. Or does it? Let's discuss Kang, Rama Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, Immortus, Doctor Doom, Nathaniel Richards, Ravonna, the Council of Cross Time Kangs, the TIme Variance Authority, Mobius M. Mobius and ... Merlin the Magician? Is this one character biography or four? Or is it five? Let's try and figure this one out without once using the word multiverse. (Although, this is a great companion to our recent pod with Mark Waid discussing continuity in comics.)

“The best laid schemes of mice and men…” To tie-in to both Valentine's Day and the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie, the plan for the podcast was take a look at the wedding of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne from Avengers 60. But that story, and the previous issue, the first appearance of Yellowjacket, present a lot of stuff that is very totally out-of-place for 2023 sensibilities. So, we called an audible. Instead, we look at the long and convoluted history of Kang the Conqueror, which, as it turns out, doesn't even start with his first appearance in Avengers 8. So, let's talk about Kang, Rama-Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, Immortus, Ravonna, Nathaniel Richards, Doctor Doom, The Council of Cross-Time Kangs, The Time Variance Authority, Mobius M. Mobius and more. We also (for the second pod in a row) discuss Omniverse, the 1970s fanzine started by the late Mark Gruenwald and the article in issue two of that magazine devoted to all those characters, or is it just one character? This is a great companion piece to the recent episode of The Winter Palace where we talked to Mark Waid about continuity in comics.

In this timely & time-filled episode, we explore the complicated history of Kang the Conqueror, from his first appearance in 1964 to the Council of Kangs' war on each other (and the Avengers) in the 1980s to his recent and upcoming depiction by Jonathan Majors in the MCU. Ep. 83 What if Kang the Conqueror tried to kill himself over and over again?Earth-267 & 616 (Marvel Comics), as seen in Avengers #267-269It's the man of the hour! (Hour, time, get it?) In preparation for his appearance in the MCU's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we are exploring the complicated history of Kang the Conqueror (and Rama-Tut, Scarlet Centurion, Immortus, etc). We start with Kang's first appearance back in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's Avengers #8 before visiting (for the first time) Mark Gruenwald's zine Omniverse. We time travel to 1986 for our first "multiverse" that's really the 616 (with a brief stop in Earth 267) as we are introduced to a Council of Kangs bent on destroying each other (and the Avengers). We wrap up by discussing Jonathan Major's performance on the Loki television show and what lies ahead for the character in the MCU. We also chat Kang vs. Doctor Doom, the brief time Storm and Colossus were on the Avengers (kind of), and more. Reading List: Avengers #8 (1964 Marvel Comics) Omniverse: The Journal of Fiction Reality #2 (1979 Alternity Publishing) Avengers #267-269 (1986 Marvel Comics) Loki (TV shows 2021 MCU / Disney Plus) Learn more about Dear Watchers:Find us at https://linktr.ee/dearwatchersEmail Podcast@DearWatchers.comTheme music is Space Heroes by MaxKoMusic (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0) ★ Support this podcast ★

Jarvis has wanted to tell y'all about Kang for a long time. He's been getting ready ever since we saw Kang appear as He Who Remains in the Loki series. Now he's letting it all out so that you're prepped for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania! Show notes… In the comics, Kang the Conqueror is a descendent of Reed Richards and has entanglements with many many characters in the Marvel universe. Rama Tut is over 70 years old chronologically but appears to be a man in his 40's thanks to his futuristic technology much like He Who Remains in the Loki series. The Scarlet Centurion once tried to kill Captain America and Bucky Barnes with a bomb rigged drone plan. Immortus once became an ally of the Avengers as part of the Infinity War. Iron Lad is a younger version of Nathaniel Richards that didn't want to become evil and became a young version of Iron Man and formed the Young Avengers. You really need to watch this scene with Kang from the Loki series before watching Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania unless they start doing previously-on's for their movies. News you can abuse! Jeremy Renner was in an accident while operating heavy machinery to clear snow, but fortunately it looks like he's on the mend. Dave Bautista is relieved to be done with playing a silly Drax–looks forward to more dramatic work. Jarvis gets to beat Mike at Marvel Snap by the end of the month! We can't wait! In this episode:Mike and Ed discuss an ad that has been appearing in the back of comics and magazines that promises to provide customers with superpowers. Are we finally seeing mass-produced superpowers? Is this organization being run by the government? Will getting powers be dangerous? Or is it all a scam or a prank?Behind the comic:This is the first appearance of Immortus. Immortus is later retconned into being a future version of Kang the Conqueror, but in this appearance he is a standalone character with no connection to Kang.In this issue:Rick Jones responds to an ad which promises to give him superpowers. It is a ruse by Immortus, who is working with Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil, to bait the Avengers into a fight. The Avengers oblige, and Immortus, as a master of time, bring various historical figures to the present to fight the Avengers. Ultimately, the Avengers prove their mettle and defeat Immortus and his motley crew drawn from the far reaches of time. This issue also includes a classic “heroes fighting due to a misunderstanding”, and demonstrates the might of Captain America.Assumed before the next episode:The Avengers are wondering how to protect themselves against someone who can travel through time. This episode takes place:After the Avengers have defeated Immortus. Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Nathaniel Richards has taken many different forms in the comics over the years but many know him as Kang. Nathaniel Richards as Immortus seems to be the inspiration for the character in this series. He Who Remains was the last director of the TVA and was in the Citadel at the End of Time, but didn't have anything to do with Nathaniel Richards. The Loki series takes a lot of points from the Avengers Forever series of comics.

This one is a day late, but with good reason: Derek was literally in the dark! A blackout took him out of commission for a couple of days. Sorry about the delay. But better late than never? And even late we have a lot to talk about with this episode of Loki, including a laundry list of Easter Eggs, why the Void is so Loki-centric and whether or not other Marvel characters should have cameo'd, arguments for and against Kang the Conqueror being the Big Bad at the end of the show (or Immortus or some other variation on Kang) and, in response to a Twitter question, just what it is that we like about this show anyway. Before the Doom Patrol debuts on DC Universe, Anthony & Doc tackle THE CHIEF! This Professor X/Mr. Glass mashup has a host of issues, including ignoring female agency! Plus our hosts pitch a new series for Tom King & Mitch Gerads to work on! Listen now! SHOW NOTES: Introduction Shout-out to The Fantom Zone (05:32) Background (06:00) The Chief (Niles Caulder) created by Arnold Drake & Bruno Premiani in My Greatest Adventure #80 (June 1963) Leader of the Doom Patrol, a group of superpowered “freaks” Received funding from a mysterious benefactor at a young age to create inventions Met a woman named Arani Desai and got married – gave her immortality on their wedding night, then left her because he was in danger from the benefactor Discovered the benefactor was General Immortus, who wanted him to create a serum that would prolong his life – Caulder refused, and Immortus implanted an explosive device in his body – the device was removed, but it cost him the ability to walk Determines that greatness comes from overcoming tragedy, so he engineers accidents to create other powered individuals Uses his genius intellect and money to help the Doom Patrol fight crime – creates suits for members Later discovered that his experiments led to the Brotherhood of Evil, a terrorist organization responsible for destroying Bludhaven Gets decapitated by the Candlemaker, and exists as a severed head in a bucket of ice – combines with Alice Wired-For-Sound, a Sexually Remaindered Spirit, which allowed him to move around, and then died After Infinite Crisis, he regained his body and leadership of Doom Patrol – becomes more manipulative over the team, who resent him Takes over a Kryptonian body, and uses his intellect to “improve” the world – destroys every missile on the planet, and then attacks the UN – gets taken down by his computer New 52 – young and healthy, provides a headquarters for Doom Patrol, but gets captured by Deathstroke Issues (14:31) Misguided belief that only tragedy can create greatness Manipulation of team (24:11) Abandonment of wife on wedding night (33:53) Treatment (48:09) In-universe Out of universe (53:21) Skit (61:39) Ending (78:42)   References: Mr. Glass - Anthony - 9:27 Unbreakable, Split, Glass - Anthony - 14:45 Reddit /r/raisedbynarcissists - Anthony - 24:00 Oprah giveaway - Anthony - 44:40 Undercover Boss - Doc - 49:27 Dr. Strange episode - Anthony - 53:50 Tony Stark episode - Anthony - 53:51 Scarecrow episode - Doc - 66:10 Black Manta episode - Doc - 66:30 iTunes: here Google Play: here Stitcher: here TuneIn: here iHeartRadio: here Spotify: here Twitter FacebookE-mailPatreon

This is the equivalent of an event film spanning multiple timelines characters old and new, big action sequences.   -Loved the time travel aspects. Traveling into the future, the old west, the 1950s investigating Immortus’ machinations to undo history and create new timelines.    When time-travel is involved in a TV show or a movie, I’m in.   -Kang Vs. Immortus. Or should I say young Kang vs. older Kang.  I liked this.   The younger Kang disliked his future self.    Meanwhile, Immortus feels he knows best for himself and the future existence of humanity.   Kang fights his future self and wants to prevent becoming Immortus.    This book is essentially their story.   -I didn't care for all the explanation and minutiae when I initially read this. Now going back for this review the comic shines here.    The details regarding how Immortus has been involved throughout the Avengers history was fascinating.    He had his hands in Scarlet Witch and Vision's relationship, the Fantastic Four's dealings with the android Human Torch, the Kree-Shi'Ar War to name a few events.   - The time plucked Avengers. Many of the characters had their own story coming into this team.   Captain America with his issues regarding his faith in the U.S. government. Songbird being a former foe of the Avengers but a member of the group in the future.   Yellowjacket's company amongst Wasp and Giant Man(an older, saner version of the same man-Hank Pym), and Captain Marvel & Songbird's romantic ties.   Yellowjacket and his interactions with the others were the most interesting.   His polarizing nature and flip-flopping between good and evil was a highlight.   -Running into other characters from other eras. An older black panther, a pregnant Moondragon, Rick Jones with a beard and missing a hand.   Kid Colt(which I enjoyed as a marvel comics deep cut character first introduced into comic lore in the 40s), and more!   -The Avenger armies. In multiple panels, the Avengers were fighting off hordes of enemies.   The character designs of these futuristic Avenger armies where a combination of knights in armor with flairs of Iron Man's armor or Thor's costume.   Cool stuff.   -The Skrulls seem to have been impersonating major historical figures for years, but the Space Phantoms were doing the same!      The phantoms are random species from other planets held prisoner in Limbo(Immortus' base of operations) and forced into servitude.   - Rick Jones was the main character but... It sure didn’t feel like it.    As I mentioned above, this was Kang/Immortus' book.   I loved Kang's backstory, which is the equivalent of the man who has everything and is looking for adventure.   Not in a noble way.   This man conquers planets, kills and enslaves its people.   Also, Rick Jones being unable to walk then he can.   I didn't fully understand his Destiny Force power.   This was a great book.    Recommended and a decent read.    I discovered this story through listening to the Geek History Lesson podcast.    Check them out.   They said that this was one of the best Avengers stories ever.      Links Geek History Lesson: The Avengers Top 5 Stories https://bit.ly/2DrM4f6  Avenger Forever, check it out here https://amzn.to/2xyTpEv    43rd Birthday Reflections   Thank the good lord above I'm able to see my 43rd birthday.    Similar to year-end observations on my life, I feel a birthday serves as much.   What lessons have I learned or reinforced since this same time last year?   Let's get into it!   -Therapy is great! During an argument with my Mom early this year, she said I should seek out therapy.    Why?    She said I have issues with her, since my parent's divorce.    I took her up on her advice.   It was one of the best decisions I’d ever made.    Being able to talk to someone, a neutral person and tell all has been a godsend.   The therapist makes great suggestions on how I should approach situations.   The best moments I’ve had with my therapist have happened while I'm talking and realizing self-reflection taking place.   I recommend therapy for everyone.   -Journaling and book reading has been a game changer! I keep saying it but reading(listening to audiobooks as well)has helped me with being better equipped to deal with the world.   Journaling has helped with working through my own issues.   I feel it's even improved my writing.    Journaling I’ve done on and off for years but in reading Anne Lamott’s ‘Bird by Bird’; it showed me a different angle for jotting things down.   Mentally, it gave me permission to write about my day’s events, how I’m feeling, what’s on my mind.      -Compounding small actions truly does lead to completed projects. I believe the habits you have during your work week are so important.   I have and I am continually working on strengthening my habits.    I may spend more time procrastinating in a day than working on content for the blog and podcast. But working a little bit 5 days a week on a drawing, an article, a video leads to completed projects.    This is how I get a lot done.     -If friends aren't going to a party I might not go. Is this a sign of me getting older?   There are great parties happening on my days off(from work).   More often than not I choose not to go.   Mainly because my party friends won't be there.    When I was younger I’d get up and go to any party that would peak my interest, but now I don’t mind staying in and waiting till the weekend when my friends may or may not join.    Am I losing my sense of adventure?   5 days a week I’m running into NYC for work.    I'm not always motivated to run into NYC on my days off.    That's already part of my work schedule.   This normally happens during the winter time, but it happened a number of times during the summer.   -Seeing sex workers is fun but can be expensive. I’m coming to an annual anniversary of seeing sex workers and the experience as a whole has been positive.    But man can it be expensive.    Seeing a sex worker each time can be anywhere from $200+ .   If I do this weekly is it still cheaper than having an actual girlfriend?   I’m starting to wonder.   -Porn watching and masturbating to porn all those years has messed up my ability to get an erection. Listening to a recent episode of Pornfree radio there was a discussion regarding a term I hadn’t heard before called PIED(Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction).    Where the habitual watching(and masturbating)to porn diminishes one's ability to get excited for real people in real sexual situations.    This has happened to me.    I blamed it on age initially.    But it’s been happening to me for the last few years.    Truly must leave the porn alone or really minimize watching it.   -I'm noticing that I can have my fill of things.    Even partying, or seeing sex workers. Two of my favorite activities is going to parties and seeing sex workers.    I have my times when I'd had my fill of both.   Similar to eating a favorite snack for 6 days straight, then you're in need of a break.   This has happened to me.    This isn't a bad thing.   It's nice to take a break from anything.   I like missing people, things, activities.    It gives me excitement to revisit those situations when the need arises.   -Winter time is the time I enjoy traveling and playing video games even more so.    Spring, summer, fall I like being in the northeast.   Outside events, parties, yoga outside, walking, movies in the park, swimming in outdoor pools.   With this outlook, I think it’s going to be a great winter.   I like nesting during the winter and to me, that means staying inside and working on various projects.   -Turning off my mind when my thoughts and emotions are all over the place, is a great tool. I learned this technique through listening to several audiobooks recently.    'Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle drives this point home best.   With this technique, my jealousy, my ego, negative self-talk; the volume of all those emotions have been turned down.   Those emotions can have their benefits, but I tend to criticize myself more often than not.   -Allowing people to be free, to find themselves make their mistakes and learn from them, is better than trying to control them. Letting friends, families, co-workers be.    So many times I try to egoistically control others.    I learned this from Marianne Williamson’s 'Return to Love' book.   She says allowing people to be free helps them to find their own answers.   I’m also ok with people asking me for advice.    This goes hand in hand with something I learned from Simon Sinek 'be the first to listen and the last to speak.'   -I’m happy when helping others. I notice this most at work.    When I’m being helpful to guests, co-workers, managers it makes me feel good.    I always remember to take care of my needs first.   I like helping others but I'm not a doormat either.   Helping others makes me feel great and the other person as well.   This is a win-win.      -Truly settling in and allowing myself to express my emotions and not dwell in that negative place.   A work in progress. I don’t always give myself space to feel/get the anger out.    I quietly go through it then it settles.   I must practice letting it out, and that’s walking away, going someplace to yell or kick a box or get that energy out some way.      -Investing in stocks, saving 2% of my paycheck every week.  There was a temporary co-worker who introduced me to how easy this process can be.    He’s been investing for the last 7 years and his stock portfolio looked impressive to me who doesn’t have anything in terms of savings or investments.    I started trading with TD Ameritrade and it’s been easy and slowly building so far.    His key advice was to invest in the products I normally use.    I started saving as little as $20 a week as well.    This is 2% of my paycheck.   Working for 27 years and I don’t have much to show for it.    Let’s build something for the next twenty years and live decently later.   -Everyone should have an eBay store. We all have stuff to get rid of.    My eBay store went from a potential way to work from home full time to simply getting rid of my stuff I’m not using and having extra cash on the side.   We all have hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of stuff we no longer use in your closet, attic, garage.    Sell that stuff and get some extra cash in your pocket.    I did and it’s really pulled me out of tight financial situations in the past.   -Feeling less anxious and more comfortable with my dancing I’m starting to come into a groove with my dancing.    A comfort level where I don’t always have to follow other people.   A realization that I am enough as I am.    That's not saying that I'm not open to learning new moves, but it’s allowing oneself to finally be the star of your life movie.   Accepting yourself as you are.    This is liberating!   During your last birthday did you have any realizations about yourself you hadn’t noticed before?   Please let me know.   Links Pornfree Radio Episode https://bit.ly/2DrM4f6    Mixtape Magic September 2018   ‘My Boy’ - Wale ‘Xtacy’ - Kanye West ‘I Love It’ - Kanye West ‘Lover’s Rock’ - Estelle ‘Pretty Girl’ - Stefflon Don ‘Kosher’ - Stylez ‘Bottles & Crate’ - Mr. Chumps ‘Trending’ - Squash ‘Puff Smoke’ - Shane-O ‘Let My Gun’ - Popcaan ‘Londontown’ - Mr. Eazi ‘079Me’ - B Young ‘Amaka’ - 2Baba ‘Jeune Femme’ - Links First ’Splinters’ - Shal Marshall ‘Dynamite’ - Brave ‘Split in the Middle’ - Freezy ‘Best Hugs’ - Dram ‘Drunk & I Miss You’ Kiddo ‘Way Down’ - M0 ‘Flying Octopus’ Rezz       BlackKlansman Movie Review   Black klansmen review.   There are spoilers.   -John David Washington sounds just like his dad Denzel.   He looked cool and clean cut throughout the movie. -The movie had a lot of comedy which made it difficult for me to take the more dramatic parts seriously. - This movie taught me that the FBI/police infiltrated the KKK.   I thought that was reserved for the Black Panthers or other radical minority groups at the time. - At some point, some group has been ostracized by another group.   White-black, black-white, Russians-Germans, Germans-Russians, Jew-Catholic, Catholic-Jew.   This is not exclusive to race or religion.   This film reminded me of this. - I thought of Spike Lee's Malcolm X while watching BlackkKlansman.    The connection I made with these two films; the central leader of the main organizations portrayed aren't infallible.   In this film, it was David Duke being genial one moment then saying goofy, hurtful, racial, insensitive things the next.   In Malcolm  X, it was Elijah Muhammad’s infidelities.    Varying imperfections but you get my meaning. -Spike Lee signature shots, in the first half during Corey Hawkins character's speech(faces in the crowd shot)and in the final act with JDW and Laura Harrier(the floating shot). -Solid performances throughout.   Corey Hawkins (from Straight Outta Compton)was a nice addition/cameo.   Laura Harrier(from Spider Man: Homecoming), was she too young to be the love interest for JDW?      With her previous performance in the Marvel film, this is what came to my mind anytime they were on screen together.   The police supervisor with the glasses(Ken Garito)and the evil cop(Frederick Weller)were over the top.   Other standouts; Jasper Paakkonen (from Vikings) as Felix was great.   Topher Grace as David Duke was smug.   Repeat casting from Spike Lee's filmography included Isiah Whitlock Jr. (Sheeeee-itttt!)and Nicholas Turturro.   My favorite character was Ivanhoe(played by Paul Walter Hauser).   The way he laughs and looks.   A caricature of a goon without much brains.   When he was on screen I would laugh. -How did Stallworth know who the bomber was?   I was lost here. -The end of the movie with modern day footage of the KKK marching and rally tragedy in Charlottesville.    My prayers go out to the victims' families and all that were affected.   My thoughts; I don't think having pride in your race is bad.   But if your hurting other people, using racing slurs, putting down other groups, that's bad. -I dozed off for a bit while watching this.    -Below is a link to NPR article which interviews the real Ron Stallworth.   This is not a Trump friendly story.  Links Ron Stallworth NPR interview https://n.pr/2y0lx5R  Ron Stallworth's book which the movie was based on https://amzn.to/2xyRv6v      Enjoyed this?
