Hi Protruserati! Welcome to the first episode of #AskJaz. Jaz's Introduction: Man, I have never needed a holiday so badly. So for those of you who know me, you'll know what I'm like, for those of you who don't know me so well, I only really switch off when I'm abroad. It's just a funny thing about me. So if I'm not playing my son, or if I'm not chopping onions, or if I'm not writing a treatment plan letter, or doing some admin or doing the podcast stuff, or the courses stuff, I literally don't switch off. So this pandemic has been very difficult for me in a way that I've been desperate for an opportunity to switch off. So that's coming next week. But I want to explore this concept of AskJaz, because I'm no like, you know that I'm No expert. There are so many people who know so much more and do great work and I admire what they do. For me, it's just sharing. And the reason why I think that's important is because when I started to share some years ago, so the specific example is when I worked in Singapore, and then I came back to the UK. And then what we found is that, like, I was on the phone to a different dentist every single day on my commute, to from Oxford and to back to London. And I was telling them the same story. They're asking me the same questions. Hey, what's it like in Singapore? How much do you earn? What's the language like? Are there any exams that you have to pass to be able to practice in Singapore and that kind of stuff? So I decided to share and I made a podcast called Protrusive Dental Podcast, you may have heard of it. And I thought it was just a great thing to be able to do to free up time for me that was amazing, It was a selfish reason why I created the podcast, okay, if I can now just make this and the next episode was like, USA, one of my friends was going to USA she's studying there. Okay, how can we now help people who might be considering the USA and then Episode 4 (I meant Ep 5, my bad!) was Australia. So the way it developed initially was like, I was kind of like this immigration agent for dentists, right? But then I started to be myself, I started to share my geeky things. I'm a massive geek when it comes to dentistry, as you guys know, so I think it's so important to share. And one of the questions instantly I had in was about a dentist who was so nervous to share and post his cases on social media. And I said, Listen, if you can post your cases on social media, you will develop so fast, so quick, and so much that it's going to be, it's going to bring about great, great vibes, great energy when someone shares. So part of the Ask Jaz is although I felt like a massive imposter syndrome, so you know, ask me, I'm the expert, nothing like that at all. I'm just literally here to share. So let me share with you some questions that we've had over the past few weeks, obviously, on YouTube, we had that question about the bonding protocol. He said, Saline but he meant Silane. And so I shared that to the Protrusive Dental Community Facebook group, if you're not part of it, do join it. And on that group,

In this video you'll see how some of the greatest masters of inlay create beautiful inlay design! The artists selected this week are world-renowned inlay artists, working with everything from lacquer to mother of pearl to create incredible art right on the guitar. Wow.  This is one of those podcast conversations where I want to say:  just listen.  Listen. For those who need more cajoling,.....I'll share about it!  Linda Inlay is an educator who spent a career bringing a technique of culture building called "Awakening Wisdom" to schools.  She shares an incredible experience about building a culture based on responsibility, respect, resourcefulness, and responsiveness in schools.I am inspired by the hope that she embodies for bringing change to our public schools and helping students and teachers and parents to gestate in environments that are designed to create natural and relaxed growth and development that starts with an assumption of acceptance. As a builder of new culture with the My Love Bomb Program and a witness to seeing what happens when you intentionally create an environment of unconditional loving acceptance, I am very excited to think that her work could permeate the public domain. If you are someone who works with teams in education, in business, or in your service work, this content can inspire you towards the system of culture that you build within yourself and those you are working with.Together we make the worldview change from fear to love.  Inside of ourselves, and within our communities.  More on the amazing Linda:  Linda began her career as an educator at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Wahiawa, Hawaii, where she worked for fifteen years. There she collaborated with the founders of the Ho`?la Educational Philosophy, a combination of Adlerian principles and Carl Roger’s self-actualization theory. Ho`?la in Hawaiian means, “awakening of the self.” Today this way of organizing a school is called “Awakening wisdom.” This program emphasized the core values of responsibility, respect, resourcefulness, and responsiveness to be modeled by the adults in order to foster these same values in the students. In 1988 Linda left Hawaii for California, entering the public school system and serving for eighteen years as the principal of River School in Napa County, where she introduced Awakening Wisdom. She taught parenting classes to bring home and school culture together, and during her tenure, River School received two California Distinguished School Awards, the Promising Practices Award and National School of Character Award from the Character Education Partnership, and the California School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award. In 2012 River School also became a New Tech Network School where project-based learning is infused with technology as an engaging and effective methodology for teaching and learning. Linda has presented at numerous conferences: National Middle School Association, Character Education Partnership, California Middle School Association, National Charter Schools, California Charter Schools Association, North Coast Educational Summit. She has authored four articles published in ASCD’s Educational Leadership. Her thesis, Ho`?la School The Transformation of Character Through the Implicit Curriculum, continues to be used a training guide for teachers at schools. Her first journal article, “Creating a Culture of Respect Through the Implicit Curriculum”, was published in the January 2016 issue of Middle School Journal. You can find her here:www.LindaInlay.comTo get involved in "Village Napa" to help support teen mental and emotional health:https://www.facebook.com/villagenapa/?fref=ts

Let's take one more trip back to Woodworking in America 2010 and I'll share with you a few more classes I attended as part of this ongoing amazing experience. I eluded to the "mourning phase" after leaving the show and coming down off my woodworking high as we drove away. That mourning isn't quite what it was a week ago, but I still have moments where I forget I'm not more than a classroom away from one of my many new friends. Hopefully you can make it next year, same location...so you can start making your traveling plans as soon as we hear the dates. Once they're announced you'll hear it from me right away. Today's episode contains snippets from Glen Huey's "Sliding Dovetails without Fail", Marc Adam's "Amazing Router Jigs for Inlay, Ellipses and 'Faux' Dovetails" and also one more from Chris Schwarz "Scraper Planes". Once again, don't take my word for how awesome it was this year, ask anyone who's attended! In fact, checkout some of the great links we've been putting together from my fellow bloggers and podcasters.
