"The events of last year showed large organisations that those processes aren't fit for major unexpected events... but it did also show that change is possible"This week we were joined by Jibran Ahmed, Executive Director at Capco - where he leads the Research & Development team and Innovation Lab. Jibs has a passion for people, technology and change and today's discussion focusses on just that, with a wrapper of organisational change. We look at the effect a human-centric approach to change can have on digital transformation at some of the largest banks, how roles and skillsets must evolve in the next 5-10 years, why top-down approaches to change are still hampering transformation and why we have to put power into the hands of the business user. During the personal quickfire round we find out that Jibs' perfect time to work is midnight. Our first owl of the season! You can find the latest Eps and the blog write ups on xceptor.com. Download This Episode! What do nearly 40 years in the oil and gas industry look like and how do you keep interested in what you're doing year after year? Mike Cougevan, oil and gas auditor for Martindale Consultants has been in the oil and gas industry for 37 years and happened upon his career choice by accident. With no firm plan to retire (unless he wins the lottery), Cougevan has gotten to know the industry from the inside out thanks to his active role at COPAS (Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies) and his storied career in finance, revenue accounting and now auditing. After getting a finance degree, one of the first interviews was with Conoco, Amaco and a couple of banks. Simply because Conoco seemed to offer the best job and have a strong growth plan, he accepted the position without knowing anything about the oil business. Some of his roles have included working on the AFE desk as financial analyst handling operating expense budgets for the field, creating and getting AFEs approved with the non-operators, profit loss analysis for the fields. He spent time in Midland, Texas, and managed revenue accounting before being transferred to Lafayette, La., to be in charge of non-operated properties in the Gulf of Mexico which included scheduling and handling audits, negotiation agreements and paying JIBs. When the company began restructuring in the 90s, Cougevan didn't love his relocation opportunities and began working for Martindale Consultants, and took on an active role with COPAS. His recommendations for making the most out of an oil and gas career are to join COPAS and embrace the quick technology changes in the industry. What in the world is COPAS? COPAS is unique in that its an organization that writes its own rules and then goes and implements them. Originally started to maintain how accounting was handled for the industry across the states. It's not only ideal for accounting and finance professionals, but also small and large independent producers and operators who want to understand if what they're being told and how they're running their books is correct. Benefits of getting involved in COPAS are: - You understand exactly how to do your job to the best of your ability and accurately. - You know the nuances and details of what's included in the Account Procedures and what language is not used and why - You're among all the peers in your industry that you'll be working with for many years if you make a career out of oil and gas Cougevan helped to write the 2005 Accounting Procedures over a 2.5 year period. He fell in love with the ability to create history and build a document that would solve all the problems the industry faced in earlier accounting documentation that was now outdated because of technological advances. To this date, no one has been able to find a hole in the document or something that the team forgot to address. In his time in the industry Cougevan has experienced: > Carbon paper > No computers > Lotus 123 > No copy machines to now being able to > Communicate with the wells with > Use drones to use inspect well sites that pumpers used to have to do > Increased efficiency thanks to powerful software and tools > Technology that changes how we find and drill for oil and gas "It's so fast, it's hard to keep up with," Cougevan said. Today he works as an auditor that focuses on contract compliance, which basically means anytime there's a contract in the upstream or midstream sectors, he could be called in to make sure the terms are being held. "It's a normal part of a business, but it's inherently confrontational," Cougevan said. "It's also good business sense to kick the tires and do some type of review or get down in the weeds if you've had problems with that type of operator to protect your company assets." What keeps it interesting nearly 25 years since beginning to audit, is that every job is new. "It's like looking at a new jigsaw puzzle every time to look at what the contracts are, look at both sides and what's happening and determine quickly if it's correct or not," he said. The biggest change he's seen in his auditing career is that most operators are digital, so he doesn't have to travel and dig through a paper trail. Natalie Kathleen, Founder of Jibs, steps on to the New York Launch Pod to discuss her unique perforated leather sneaker-shoes for men, women and kids. Three years ago at a dinner party, Natalie serendipitously came across a shoe created in Brazil. One of Natalie's friends introduced her to this quixotic design modeled after a traditional Brazilian beach shoe. After wearing these shoes for a few days on the hot NYC summer streets and receiving a lot of attention, Natalie threw aside her high heels and decided to start her company. Thus Jibs Life and the #jibsjourney began. While the company is rooted in New York, the shoes are manufactured in Brazil under the supervision of someone Natalie refers to as the "Jimmy Choo" of sneakers. With a recycled PVC sole and the finest authentic leathers, Jibs currently come in three styles (Classic, Slim, and High Top) in a cornucopia of colors. As the company has grown, Jibs has been able to focus on its core 25-35 demographic and build a community around its product line. One collaboration with W Hotels led to the hotel chain calling Jibs their favorite "shift shoe" and supermodel Joan Smalls go-to Off-Duty sneaker. Go inside the competitive footwear and style industry as you listen to the episode to hear how Jibs has grown, the secret to its success, and the advantages and challenges of manufacturing in Brazil. Anthony S. Lenzo is the President and owner of Air Sea Land Productions (ASL) which was established in 1994. His primary focus in the production industry continues to be Digital Cinematography – both underwater and on land. He has worked in various capacities in the production industry as Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Underwater Camera Operator, Engineer, Inventor, Jib Operator and Equipment Manufacturer. Anthony is a five-time Emmy Award winner for Innovative Camera Systems, POV Technician, Electronic Cinematographer and Technical Team Remote. Anthony’s career began in the late 80’s, working for All Mobile Video, where he gained extensive knowledge of all aspects of video production. Five years later, Anthony started operating camera cranes and invested in several Jimmy Jib cranes. Soon after, ASL housed the largest inventory of Jimmy Jibs on the east coast. In 1988, Anthony began scuba diving and shooting video with his first underwater housing, propelling his career in the direction of underwater cinematography. He later became a consultant in the design of the Amphibico Amphibicam HD underwater housing, and was one of the first to take the high definition format underwater. In 2004, Anthony used the housing on one of his more memorable shoots – Lakeshore Entertainment’s feature film “The Cave” – with his dear departed friend and colleague, Wes Skiles. Anthony’s talent as a camera operator, along with his innovations in the field of videography, landed him his five Emmy’s. When ESPN launched the first X-Games in 1995, Anthony introduced several Point of View cameras to the world of extreme sports, one being the “Rope-Cam.” To implement this invention, Anthony imbedded a super small waterproof camera in the towline of wake boarders and water skiers. This concept and design won him his fifth Emmy Award for Innovative Camera System. In 1999, Anthony combined his knowledge of both Jibs and underwater camera systems and built the Pelicam, the first underwater camera crane. Challenged by physics, Anthony broke the barrier of limitations he faced when attempting to submerge a jib system and the necessary counterweight balance, and designed a counterweight transfer system. This allowed a camera on a crane to start as high as 30 feet in the air and dive underwater in one clean shot. He used his underwater jib design to shoot for a variety of networks including MTV, ABC and CBS. In June of 2000, Anthony designed and built a POV system into the eyewear of U2’s lead singer, Bono, for the U2 Elevation tour. He attached the camera to electronics in a vest worn by Bono, transmitting a signal from Bono’s POV camera to 40 foot overhead projection screens. The camera proved to be a success on the tour, and footage from the “Bono Cam” was also used in the DVD of the tour. Anthony co-created, produced and shot two documentaries in 2004. His first documentary production was “On A Single Breath,” a story about the competition of freediving and his second, “Free-Flight,” a thrilling documentary on paragliding and ultralight aircraft flying. Anthony has created several original HD titles such as “Visions of the Seas: Encounters” and “Ocean Aquarium,” two of the top-selling Blu-Ray titles for DVD International(www.HDscape.com). He has also created an educational underwater children’s adventure DVD, “The Magic Pool.” Anthony successfully designed the BLuFISH HD underwater housing for the Iconix, the first HD POV camera. He also assisted in the design of the Amphibicam HD underwater housing, designed products for the RED One such as the “RIP-Kit,” and designed the T-Bag camera splash bag. The T-bag allowed Anthony to easily capture the entire opening of Showtime’s “The Big C” and several shots of the opening of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” with the RED One used both in and near water. One of Anthony’s passions is traveling to exotic locations and capturing spectacular underwater HD footage with a variety of cameras. Anthony’s other passion is inventing. His continual goal is to create and invent for a variety of markets and industries. His favorite quote is from Albert Einstein: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.” The skills and knowledge Anthony has acquired in the production industry have made Anthony S. Lenzo and his company Air Sea Land Productions successful and reputable names in the industry. His expertise continues to be sought after in the new era of Digital Cinema.

The music writer Laura Barton visits four corners of Britain and listens closely to the music found in different landscapes. Long ago, the city of Birmingham was dubbed "the home of heavy metal", suggesting a connection between the manufacturing industries of the Black Country and the music of Black Sabbath and others. Now James and Jibs of 'metalcore' group Oceans Ate Alaska have inherited - and trumped - their own fathers' heavy tastes. And in a programme as much about community as cults, Laura talks with Birmingham's celebrated R&B singer Jaki Graham and traces the story of music in the clubs and on the streets of city. Then, Laura heads west to South Wales to experience how another musical tradition associated with established industrial communities has been reinvented for modern times. During a rehearsal, conductor Richard Vaughan explains how Côr y Gleision - the Cardiff Blues Choir - has found a new home for famed Welsh singing.
