Send us a Text Message. The boys have been busy this week. Hutch had a soggy old time in a field and watched old Steven Seagal movies, whilst Steff killed zombies with his son and watched something questionable in a dark room full of strangers. In the news we find out what NBA stars spend their first paychecks on, who we can expect to see acting with dinosaurs, and whether we will ever get to actually bloody watch Megalopolis. In 2nd Chance Cinema Club, we review 2016's Kill Command and are pleasantly surprised with it. Sure it may just be Aliens with added killbots, but we find some good stuff to say regardless. Next week sees the release of new Star Wars live action series The Acolyte, kicking off with a two parter on 4th June. So we temporarily suspend our 2nd Chance Cinema Club for a few weeks, to concentrate on actually talking about Star Wars again. You can contact us at:aloneinthesouthpassage@gmail.comWe can be found on:Instagram - @aitsp_podcastTwitter - @aitsp_podcastYoutube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTeKX6NB1XOIPXOraGfIfhw

On our show, "Howling At The Full Moon", we're going with something a little more recent with our 32nd episode and deep diving into one of the shortest feature films ever with the 2023 effort "MURDERBOT" aka "KILLBOTS". Directed by Jim Wynorski and starring Melissa Brasselle, August Kyss, Rib Hillis, Lisa London, and Becky LeBeau. This movie is a sort of all over the place mess that mixes desert town shenanigans with some college kids and elements of The Terminator (whose comparisons is merely skin deep). This shorty feature (clocking in at only 46 minutes) is about what happens when a sentient robot goes on a killing spree. Discussion headed off by our regular hosts Cameron Scott and Full Moon enthusiast Dustin Hubbard as they take a deep dive into a dissection of this sci-fi romp. "Have a nice day!"
Dave and Christian talk about some new watches and trends and then fend off Killbots in Chopping Mall and swat The Fly - both from 1986. Intro 0:00 - 1:12:05 Chopping Mall (1986) 1:12:05 - 1:45:04 The Fly (1986) 1:45:04 - 2:25:24 Thanks for Listening!

A group of teenagers must fight for their lives in a mall guarded by malfunctioning killbots! For this 100th episode of Bad Movie Date Night, Nigel and Kaitlyn decided they needed a chance to redeem their favorite of all the "bad" movies, Chopping Mall, the classic film about malfunctioning robots blowing up heads and chasing down teens in a mall after it closes. This episode is chock full of soapboxes as Nigel discusses how far the podcast has come, the fine line between horror and horror-comedy, the lack of respect the horror genre receives, and why so many other shows look down on films. Acomi and Turk182 test their might against ninja assassins and buxom beauties for the honor to watch Jim Wynorski's first feature film, The Lost Empire. Starring Melanie Vincz(?), Raven De La Croix(?), and Angela Aames(?), and special appearances by Blackie Dammett (B-movie thug king), and Angus “The Tall Man” Scrimm. Before making classic B-movies such as Chopping Mall a.k.a. Killbots, Deathstalker II, Return of the Swamp Thing, Munchie, The Bare Wench Project, and Cleavagefield, Wynorski made this low-budget, confusing, titillating, action-adventure about long lost magic stones, a mysterious cult leader, and a forbidden island. Inspector, detective, special agent, number one kick-ass police officer, Angel Wolfe (Melanie Vincz), recruits a team of chestily overdeveloped beauties, to help her sneak onto the island of Golgatha and kill the cult leader and sorcerer Dr. Sin Do. Yep! It's just as awesome as it sounds, and set the stage for everything we've come to expect from Jim Wynorski, a.k.a. Harold Blueberry, a.k.a. H.R. Blueberry, Sam Peppermint, a.k.a. It’s a well known fact that the 1980’s was arguably the most prolific and profitable time for horror films — sometimes for better, other times for worse. Julie Corman, wife of legendary horror producer Roger Corman, had a deal with Vestron video for a horror film that would take place in a shopping mall, which was the center of American consumerism in the 80s. She hired Jim Wynorski to pen the script and he only agreed to the project so long as he got to direct. He ended up writing a script after he was inspired by the 1954 film “Gog,” although many believe the film is much closer to the made-for-TV film “Trapped,” which starred James Brolin. The premise of the movie was rather simple — a group of employees get trapped in a mall after hours with a group of malfunctioning robots meant to serve and protect but instead they turn murderous. Shot at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, which is the same mall that appears in films such as “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Commando” and “Terminator 2,” the movie titled “Killbots” was released into theaters in 1986 but didn’t fare very well at the box office until a new name was finally suggested. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to buy some beer, get locked in a furniture store and talk about the 1986 classic “Chopping Mall”…

Suspiria (1977) d. Dario Argento written by: Dario Argento, Daria Nicolodi Starring: Jessica Harper Stefania Casini Flavio Bucci Udo Kier Joan Bennett This week on Total Movie Recall, we test our feminist bona fides and flex our rigorous academic muscles dissecting the precise and not-at-all haphazard imagery of Dario Argento's giallo horror film, Suspiria. Ryan fantasizes about disappearing into a Black Forest fairytale world where there are no problems and noted ballerina enthusiast Steve remains unimpressed with the technical rigors of this film. Cool colors, though. Suzy (Jessica Harper) travels to Germany to attend ballet school. When she arrives, late on a stormy night, no one lets her in, and she sees Pat (Eva Axén), another student, fleeing from the school. When Pat reaches her apartment, she is murdered. The next day, Suzy is admitted to her new school, but has a difficult time settling in. She hears noises, and often feels ill. As more people die, Suzy uncovers the terrifying secret history of the place. We're back! And yes, it's another movie full of gratuitous violence. But it's totally silly and just so much gosh darn fun, gosh darn it! See? I'm trying to keep everything very tame and innocent. Just like those trips to the mall in my youth. Until one of the security robots uses its lasers to make someone's head explode. What do you think that we might be discussing on THIS episode? Well, I guess that the title of the episode says it all, huh? That's right, it's Chopping Mall (1986)! This just happens to be the second featured episode focusing on one of the Lionsgate Blu-ray releases in their Vestron Video Collector's Series. Collect them all! And then listen to the episodes. Because we'll probably end up talking about all of them, eventually. And then from there, well, we talk even more about the Killbots and their killing spree inside the Sherman Oaks Galleria. So, if you like the smell of pepperoni and electrified Dick Miller, this is certainly going to be the kind of episode that would be a wonderful listen while you're making dinner. Enjoy!

The infamous Lebal Drocer, Inc. is facing pressure after patented kill-bot technology turns on the one percent! They were never supposed to kill people who matter! Hatesec offers a doozy of a cover story for the defamed corporation, as the conversation takes a dark turn to shitty roommates, murderous junky landlords, and autofellatio.
The 1980s were chock full of formulaic horror fare. Many of those involved horny teenagers with questionable morals getting slaughtered by a larger than life antagonist. In that sense, Chopping Mall is not all that unique. The set up: Moronic young adults gather at a mall after hours to engage in youthful frivolity. Unfortunately for them, a lightning storm causes a power surge, frying the mainframes of the mall’s new crack security squad and turning them into Killbots. Sex, alcohol, panic, and murder ensue. Sound familiar? Aside from the Killsbots, it should. But they are what make this movie so memorable. They’re a trio of tiny, comically cheap looking robots equipped with an equally low-grade variety of gadgets. Oh ... and they shoot lasers out of their heads! Cyclops style! Based on that description alone, it shouldn’t surprise you that this film was a product of Roger Corman’s Concorde Pictures. Nor should it be enlightening to discover this wasn’t a box office smash. Yet it has endured, finding its niche on late night cable television throughout the 80s and 90s. That’s where I discovered it, and I haven’t stopped shouting its praises to people since. Look, I know it’s not some piece of high art, but its ludicrous concept is just too much damn fun not to find joy in. When your central conceit revolves around three foot tall robots, who can’t go up and down stairs, menacing a group of slackers in a suburban mall, you can’t go wrong. So sit back, grab a Five-O IPA from Jailhouse Brewing, and get ready to swipe those credit cards as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Chumpzilla survive the horrors of the Chopping Mall—where shopping can cost you an arm and a leg! This Week’s Segments: Introduction – Everything is up for sale in our deep dive look at this schlocky horror classic! (00:00) The Top-5 Explosive Decapitations in Cinema History – The film's signature kill—a head vaporizing laser—is one for the ages, and we see how it stacks up to similar gore-tastic deaths from cinema history. (43:04) Recommendations – We provide our mostly horror-centric picks for the week.
Episode 47 is a “Live Watch” episode. That’s right, your hosts sit down with some cats at Will’s house and watch a movie whilst recording all the genuine reactions and comments. Why? Because why not! We admit it may not be as cool as partying in a Furniture King, it’s still Sofa King cool! Listen as we learn that sex in the 80’s wasn’t sexy and that character actor Dick Miller is King of the Janitors. Did you know that robot language has over 1000 words for sperm, but not one word for “friend”? You’ll meet characters who have robophobia. You’ll meet characters who have helmet hair. You’ll meet some “Killbots”. You’ll meet the guy that proves that continuously chewing gum can make you look like an A-hole. Do you want a cockfighting starter kit? An exploding head? You can get it all at the Mall! So, get ready to shop ’til you drop, just don’t drop onto the Knife Hut- it won’t break your fall! Oh, and have a nice day! Welcome to Total Movie Recall episode 002, where we'll discuss the film Predator (1987), directed by John McTiernan & starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke & Jesse Ventura. Schwarzenegger, Weathers, Ventura, a vagina-faced alien. We went to deep into the jungles of Val Verde in our mind as we revisit the stone-cold classic. A team of special force ops, led by a tough but fair soldier, Major "Dutch" Schaefer, are ordered in to assist CIA man, George Dillon, on a rescue mission for potential survivors of a Helicopter downed over remote South American jungle. Not long after they land, Dutch and his team discover that they have been sent in under false pretenses. This deception turns out to be the least of their worries though, when they find themselves being methodically hunted by something not of this world. - via IMDB Things discussed in the show: Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief The Maze Runner Bloodline Flicks 36 - Atlanta Correction Billy Bragg is a singer, Steve meant Joe Bob Briggs (sorry Joe Bob) Svengoolie (Rich Koz) Predator 2 Bill Paxton The Vagrant It's not okay to use the word"faggot," slack-jawed or otherwise - thanks '80s Hollywood The Rescue The Expendables Dark Horse Comics (Alien vs. Predator) Stan Winston vs. H.R. Here is the 24th installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Cremator of Creepsylvanian thrashers Ghoul. I contacted the band through one of their human intermediaries. The interview was conducted just before their set at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, in a van parked around the corner from the venue. I was lucky to leave with both the interview and my life [though I wasn't quite the same when I got home that night]. My thanks again to Cremator for taking the time to talk to me (and not eating me), and to you for listening.
